This line always reminds me “there’s a place for us, somewhere a place for us” (someday from west side story). Maybe we can means he’s not sure if we can but he’s hopeful, wanting to find a place to feel good is important to him, implying he hasn’t found a place where he feels good and where people are treated with kindness
I got a good feeling, I'm just takin' it all in, Floating up and dreamin', Droppin' into the deep end
Got a good feeling implies some level of intuition or instinct, and that he’s just riding the waves as they come, dreaming (a big theme always) “she lives in day dreams with me” floating as in moving up towards the sky where sunflower is “hung up high in the gallery”
And if we're here long enough, They'll sing a song for us (ah-ah-ah-ah)
To me this is him saying to his person to stay here long enough, to hold on, to wait. There have been continual references to Harry and someone he’s connected to feeling immense pain and he’s saying if we hold on, things will improve, always encouraging them to hold on and things will get better “you can see the world, following the seasons everywhere you go”
And we'll belong
What he wants for himself and for his person, we’ll belong “we belong to light, we belong to each other” (we belong, pat benatar). Harry doesn’t feel like he and someone else belong, he doesn’t feel like he and a lot of people belong, but the use of the word will implies he thinks in the future that can change
Giving second chances, I don't need all the answers
He’s admitting that there are things he doesn’t know “there’s things we’ll never know” (fine line) but that he doesn’t need to know everything to feel good, he’s no longer “worried about where you are, or who you will go home to”
Feeling good in my skin, I just keep on dancin'
He’s saying he’s gonna just keep having as good a time as he can, “kids in the kitchen listen to dance hall” I think dancing represents freedom of play to him, I think he gets in touch with his inner child when he dances
And if we're here long enough, We'll see it's all for us
To me he’s saying to his person, look at it all, this world, this music, this story, the world is our oyster, this is all for us, all for you, if you hold out you’ll see things differently, maturing is a beautiful thing in the way your understanding grows and changes
And it's just another day (and it's just another day)
Even magical people have ordinary days
And if our friends all pass away (ah-ah, ah-ah)
This is morbid randomly out of the blue, but Harry has lost people to suicide in his life. Some maybe to drugs. He lost his stepdad. I think he’s dealt with a lot of loss and he’s had to just keep going.
It's okay (it's okay, it's okay, it's okay)
But it’s okay because we can just make it through this rough time
All we ever want is automatic all the time. All we ever want is auto all of the time
Harry has this theme of feeling robotic (satellite music video) but also “tea with cyborgs” a real disconnect from our own humanity, but he’s saying he recognizes how things take time sometimes. We aren’t robots, we’re humans and part of being human is not having all the answers and being patient, and hoping things get better, he’s letting go of a lot of his need for control
Ultimately I feel like this is a song trying to encourage people that it gets better and we can create the spaces, the homes we longed to have. I think this is a sentiment he has expressed in a few different songs.

So on yet another road trip I did a dastardly deed and made a playlist of all Harry, Louis, and Niall’s solo stuff. And as I listened on shuffle, I just couldn’t escape the feeling that one of these things was not like the other. Niall’s songs more oft than not are about love—the temptress, desire, being left, the kind of embryonic beginnings and swift endings of someone who actually dates people. But Harry and Louis? You know that saying “history never repeats itself, but it rhymes”? That’s what they do. Album after album, era to era, I could trace a path through greif, miscommunication, petty fights, coffee, stars, too much thinking and too much drinking, annoyance, adoration. There’s a depth that belies an understanding. And going forward in time, songs that tackled other loves, moved to explore friendship (Matilda, That’s the Way Love Goes) and beauty and home and belonging (Common People, TPWK). There’s even the constant reference to smoking.
It’s not so much that I think they’re perfect people with a flawless happily ever after. But they’re bound still, in their songs, in their lyrics, rhyming in ways only visible from a distance, from a collective glance at how these threads weave a tapestry of growing up and getting wiser and healing. I’ve been willing to be disproved of their connection for a while now, and always the stunts are yearly and the articles too predictable, and I come back to listening to them in the only place they have control, and despite the added “girl who looked like you” or “went to your uni” or the pretense that Harry’s albums each have a distinct muse, this rhyming brings me back here. To boys who touched secretly behind tables. Who kissed while potato cameras watched. Who held hands miserably with girl after girl only to press their knees together on interview couches.
It all comes back to this every single time. They are steeped together—intermingled, crushed essence irretrievably bound in boiling waters—and it’s so obvious if you only listen.

A self aware take on Boyfriends, including Harry and boyfriends of those he cares for. The lyric video features a lone swan, a symbol of commitment. Harry was with a swan in every image for his May 20 2019 Gucci Campaign, released the week Boyfriends was first written. Harry and Taylor were pictured with a Swan on her birthday when they went to The Lakes. Harry who has spoken about the song with pride and deference. Let's start with the gorgeous first take:

Harry said to Zane Lowe it was written at the end of Fine Line:
"There was an extra week where we wrote some stuff, wrote Adore you, TPWK and we were recording Lights Up. [...] At the end of that session everyone left and I started writing Boyfriends and it almost felt like OK there is a version where we get this ready to put on this album, and I think there was something about it where it felt like it's going to have it's time. [...] I am learning so much by saying it [...] It is both acknowledging my own behaviour, looking at behaviour I have witnessed and looking at I grew up with a sister, so it's like watching her date people and watching friends date people and you know people don't treat each other nicely sometimes. And it turned out about boyfriends because I started paying it and saying boyfriends. [...]Just say what you think of boyfriends.
Harry was in the studio from 15 May 2019, the Swan Gucci Campaign was released on he and Taylors anniversary that week. It was also 2 weeks after Me! Was released. When speaking about Boyfriends Harry constantly mentions these other songs. They have a common theme about the impact of the behaviour of others on his relationships and self, true his nature it is subtle and gentle:
Adore you's video asks fans to respect the partner(s) of his choosing, in contrast to fan reaction who he dates.
TPWK, as the title says, Harry told Rolling Stone " It made me uncomfortable at first, [...] I feel like that song opened something that’s been in my core.”
Lights Up - to Rolling Stone Harry spoke about stepping out from 1D on his own, the lyrics of "I'm not ever going back" and "All the lights couldn't put out the dark running through my heart", link the experience of the band and fandom to mental health and knowing who he is, rather than who others want him to be.
To me, coming at the end of that session adds to Harry taking ownership his role in failed relationships in that time by being unaware of the impact his 1D persona. fan treatment of his partner(s) and emotional unavailability. Taylor has also described her anxiety dating him in Slut! and Gold Rush. However, as Harry said, it is not limited to himself. On its release at Coachella, (3 years after it was written) "To Boyfriends Everywhere, F*** you". This was weeks after Taylor wrote You're Losing Me about Joe. Setlist and Tracklisting
Harry placed Boyfriends on HH between Satellite and LOML. Harry stopped playing Boyfriends after November 15 2022, when he played it live with Ben Harper at the end of the L.A. Forum residency. It was only played once in 2023, at Wembley June 16. The next night was the only time he played Sweet Creature since 2018. When it was on the setlist it proceeded LOML or Lights Up.

To Variety Ben Harper said: "It was a wonderful recording session — one of the most memorable and most musical I’ve ever been a part of. [...] Harry invited me to stick around because he wanted to finish the song right then and there. To get to watch Harry in his process was eye-opening, and I learned a lot. [...] Yeah, I mean, he orchestrated the vocal harmonies like a classical composer, spot on, note for note. He just stacked them perfectly in pitch, one better than the next, and it was really eye-opening to see somebody step on the mic and have the parts orchestrated in his head. I’ve never seen anything like it actually."

The opening is Backwards 'Ooh Fool, you’re back at it again'. Sunflower Vol 6 also opens with 'Sunflower' backwards. I think of this as about a backwards life, success followed by a normal life.
The first verse describes how boyfriends take their partner for granted and misunderstand.
Weakened When you get deep in He starts secretly drinking It gets hard to know what he's thinking You love a fool who knows just how to get under your skin You, you, you still open the door
The second verse describes where partner has met their guard down some boyfriends withdraw, and start drinking. Harry has sung of this before in Half the world away “I’ve started drinking”. Harry has mentioned drinking in other songs, but HTWA has a similar meaning, of drinking in secret to cope.
Harry touches on common themes in his discography:
Not communicating, similar to MMIH “we don’t talk about it”
Not getting over this person - Getting under you skin is a reference to Taylor’s The Lakes: “What should be over burrowed under my skin in heart-stopping waves of hurt” and IWYW “You always knew how to push my buttons”
Doors - here Harry's muse is opening the door, Harry has 7 songs that refer to knocking, opening or not opening doors. Taylor also has 13 songs about Harry and doors.
You're no closer to him Now you're halfway home Only calling you when Don't wanna be alone Oh, and you go Why? You don't know
While the first 2 verses the Boyfriend was uncommunicative, emotionally unavailable and didn't consider their partner. In the third verse the boyfriend and partner are learning from failed relationships, but still no closer. Now the boyfriend is only calling when they want company, rather than to be there for their partner.
Halfway home: The X Account 'I am Halfway Home' was started to promote HH. The term could have several meanings:
a Halfway house is a place to reintegrate into society from an institution.
The song is a play on words of having no more emotional closeness despite being physically halfway home, and
Halfway home is the name of a documentary about the toll war takes on veterans and their families.
Home is an important theme to Harry's work, Home meaning being with the right person rather than a physical place. To me, this lyric is Harry is saying that despite his growth since leaving the band and break down of this relationship they are still not emotionally closer.
Boyfriends Are they just pretending? They don't tell you where it's heading And you know the game's never ending You, you lay with him as you stay in the daydream You feel a fool You're back at it again
The closing of the song is a sense that the boyfriend is being a player, not communicating.
But Harry's muse gives in, wanting to stay in a dream. Slut! has a similar idea of choosing to stay in a love haze when you know it's not going to last "Got lovestruck, went straight to my head / Got lovesick, all over my bed / Love to think you'll never forget / Handprints in wet cement". Harry also says this in Daydreaming: "Livin' in a daydream"
Harry and Taylor have both used 'fool' in reference to their relationship before (in Fools Gold, Cardigan, Illicit Affairs, Joker and the Queen and in Long Pond Taylor said it 7 times about James in Betty.)
Finally, it refers to the cyclical nature of their relationship with 'back at it again' as OOTW 'built to fall apart and back together' and Style "when we go crashing down we come back every time' and many other songs.

This one suprised me because he fully prepped me with the preshow and tour bus playlists and recs that I thought it would be so heavy on the greatest and ooms and silver tongues kinda sounds? And unfortunately I do like my noise and I do believe he's loves his noise and I do think he wants to move towards noise? So my response was more of a what happened lol maybe I misjudged it maybe he's still kinda careful and easing us into it (tbh I think this) and it's for lt3 or maybe this is just what he's more comfortable with (and a lil this). Not that I think he doesn't love this sound. Or that I don't love this sound. Just didn't anticipate this many softieboppies that's all. Expectations were high and he fking met them don't get me wrong I just didn't expect this ALSO yeah it's crazy he just did it all lol.
Sonically she feels timeless like she belongs in the 60s 70s 80s 90s- projected into the future- projected into AUs- she belongs wherever she goes i don't know how to explain it I don't have the knowledge but she's just a lil bit of every era and never too much she's just out there being the sidecharacter in all of them sorry she's not the main but she's there she's definitely there
T H E TITLE is everything like going for a track called Headline being someone who has been the subject of many shit headlines over the years is just very hot no matter the context or how its used as a metaphor, but then so casually "you used to read me like a headline" that can be taken many ways both positive and negative is just oof chefs kiss.
For the rest of the song lyrically I don't have much to say, there's not many plays on words I can break down over or not that I've noticed yet apart from the links with the rest of the album in the first verse which I'll get to in the end, and the concept isn't relatable to me either so yeah eh shrug on them oop.

But then then I wanna talk about the 1st verse:

I like that this verse matches pieces of the rest of the album in terms of keywords: we got hearing you through the silence vs he can still hear the silence in Holding on to Heartache, then Beauty being another song, kindness just throw TPWK in there why not, then so fast to judge and quick, like quick to judge in Bigger Than Me, and then there are a bunch of forever and evers all over. It's like this first verse makes this song belong on this album. To me it actually feels like this is what he tweaked to make it fit on this album. And then that stops and just kinda bops on I guess 🙆🏻‍♀️

Do you think any of Harry's girlfriends after Taylor felt threatened in some way, the same way some of Taylor's boyfriends were?
Short answer: yes, of course. I think all of them. How could they not have been?
Longer answer:
First of all, I need to lead by saying that I think that ALL BUT 4 songs of H’s post-Up All Night discography (lyric credits, song writing credits) are partially or entirely about Blondie. If you are curious: Carolina, Cherry, TPWK, Cinema.
And by girlfriends, I mean the women who got close enough to him to suspect/know. And there have not been many. CR and OW, and KJ had to know.
And listen to his songs, and look at the MVs that he continues to put out. And the way he selects songs for his concert setlist and pairs songs in concert (like the Two Ghosts into Falling for the Fall 2021 HSLOT concerts, as well as the finale). And his skin! Tattoos he has said he doesn’t regret and he has not removed are like a shrine to his feelings for her.
And the generous way he has always and still speaks about her. The goofy smile he still gets when her name comes up in interviews. His demeanour when he approached her at the 2021 Grammys!
If that were *my* romantic partner, hoo boy. I would not feel super secure.
And while this is total spec, I wonder if intimidation on OW’s part is what motivated the Ol*v*a tattoo. My guess is that it is from early-ish in that relationship (when H thought Blondie was on the way to marrying YB). During the time when he was writing LOML and Cinema and As It Was. When he was like “I have to move on.”
Which…well…you know my thoughts (based on observation of things like concerts and recent MVs) there. That fleeting feeling passed.

i don't think he'll change much. he's tried to do a more bro sort of angle, the drug talk, his fuckboy lyrics show he's not afraid of that.
i feel like he tries to do a more bro friendly thing each time, then quickly reverts back to queerbaiting and trying to keep his preteen fans so they can buy all his nasty cheap merch and attend 200 concerts in a row.
