One of my fave things so far watching TOS is how Spock will do the Vulcan grip during a melee and immediately incapacitate an enemy, meanwhile everyone else is fighting in the bg as he watches on just… not intervening lmao

i don’t mind scotty having comedic moments and i think snw has a lot of light hearted episodes anyways, but i also hope they lean into his more serious characterization that was present in tos. yeah, scotty’s a more silly character in the tos movies but so are everyone else and i feel like he earned being more laid back in his old age.

I don’t mind aos scotty (and actually think he was the only character with a brain in into darkness) but they leaned into making him the comic relief too much. I don’t think it’s pegg’s fault because i know he’s a versatile actor.

it’s too early to say what snw scotty is going to be like but i’m tentatively excited for the direction they’re going. martin quinn said in a podcast his scotty is still figuring himself out, and that he has an innocence to him mixed with a bit of grumpiness. but i hope the snw writers also show us why scotty eventually becomes third in command. scotty in tos has an unflinching resolve and staunch professionalism that we get just a glimpse of in into darkness when he resigns from starfleet for his morals.
