“Hmm… Yuuto is my big brother. But I have known him for only a few years. He was actually kidnapped before I was born but when he learned the dream walking much later he accidentally pulled me into his dream space… That’s kind of a long story but we met as foxes and I couldn’t talk, so I only figured out our true connection after… after Ruki had sucked some of my blood and the blood magic that had sealed my kitsune side started to break. So… yeah… a long and complicated story, I guess, hehe.”

“Anyway… Yuuto is… Umh… A bit overprotective, I think. And he doesn’t like vampires at all. I get that but… Haa… I do hope that someday he can completely accept that I’m going to stay with Ruki no matter what.”

“What else to say…? I love him a lot. He was my mental support when I was having tough years back at school. Even though we couldn’t talk, he was there for me in my dreams, running through the forest with me. Now, he has helped me a lot to understand how to control my fire and other skills.”

“I was a bit worried after we saved him and he moved into the human world. I had to teach him how to manage through… you know… normal stuff. And his cooking… Oh – my – gosh! It was like he didn’t even bother trying! I was so relieved when he and Nalia got together. Now he can eat proper meals since Nalia makes sure of that. And they are such a lovely couple in any case. I’m happy that Yuuto found his happiness with her~”

“Oh my… Toru! He is my cousin from Mom’s side. But the way we met… Gosh! He kind of broke into the Mukami manor just to say hi! Ruki was furious! Well… that was actually a bit scary…We were afraid that someone had come to get me but then it was just Toru. No one can be scared of Toru. He is so cute and funny~”

“Hehe, Toru reminds me a bit of Kou but… I think he is softer? Like the most huggable kitsune ever! We are around the same age and now that I’ve gotten know to him I’m sure we’re going to be great friends someday.”

“Though… I think Ruki is still a bit suspicious of Toru. The first impression was… quite something. But Ruki will get over it, I’m sure. It’s my wish that they can get along, so… Hehe~”

[Grinning, Toru slipped into the car and fastened his seat belt.]

"This is a cool car for sure~ Does Yuuto like it too? Oh... right. He can't drive. But I bet he likes to sit here as you drive."

[Toru pondered for a moment.]

"This must be the first time you're actually driving us! All other times, I have been the driver. This will be fun, I bet you are the best driver ever!"

[Taking a good position on his seat, Toru seemed quite enjoying himself like there hadn't been any trouble at all with Ruki and Yuriko earlier. Secretly, it still bothered him a bit, but if Nalia said it would be alright, he had to believe in that. Of course, Nalia must be right, since she knew the couple better.]

"Soooo... Nalia, do you want to hear foxy news? Or more like a piece of gossip? I mean, this is a juicy thingy."

[Toru glanced at Nalia.]

"Anyway... Touko, she's my big sis, and I were shopping together and we ran into Toshi. Well, not exactly run into him, since we saw him afar. We were going to say 'hi' but then this other guy appeared."

[Taking a break, Toru stared out of the car window for a moment.]

"They held hands... and then Toshi leaned in... and I think..."

[Toru glanced at Nalia again.]

"I think he kissed the guy on the cheek. You know, I never thought that he could do something like that. He is always like 'pretty ladies this and pretty ladies that' and now suddenly there is this guy! It's totally cool, of course. But it'd be nice if he had said something to Touko and me. Anyway, don't tell anyone since it seems to be his secret still."

[Toru scratched the back of his head.]

"Sooooorry, if this was a bother... But I kind of felt like telling someone trustworthy and you're always chill, so... I wanted to share it with you."

[Chuckling a bit nervously, Toru kept looking at Nalia.]

"So... do you have any juicy foxy news to share too?"

[Being happy about Toru's reaction, Nalia sat down in the car and buckled her seatbelt.]

"Thank you~ Yuuto helped to pick out the color. Well, I guess he's fine with sitting there. Usually, he seems quite relaxed. You know we like to listen to music while we drive."

[Nalia pondered for a moment.]

"Unfortunately, I don't have any cool music with me right now. Just girly stuff..."

(I wonder if Yuuto would like to get his driver's license...)

"Yeah, you're right! Today you're the passenger for the first time. If something bothers you about my driving, say it right away. I want you to feel comfortable."

[After the redhead started the engine, she drove off. She was still a little worried about Toru and hoped Ruki wasn't being too mean.]

"A juicy thingy?"

[Eyes fixed on the traffic, Nalia listened intently anyway.]

"Wait! Toshi did what!?"

[Her mind raced.]

"That explains a lot..."

[Despite the more than interesting news, the young woman focused on driving.]

"Don't worry. I won't tell anyone. His secret is safe with me. But you and your sister should talk to him about it. Show him you're cool with it and definitely don't blame him for not mentioning it. This is really important. Toshi needs your support right now."

[At the red light, Nalia glanced briefly at Toru.]

"I had a very serious talk with Toshi recently. We had some things to work out. Damn, his words. Now I realize some things. Toshi is making it difficult for himself. If he knows he can count on you and your sister, that would definitely help him."

[The light jumped to green and Nalia kept driving safely.]

"Huh? It wasn't a bother. Stop talking nonsense. You can tell me anything you want anytime. I will always listen to you without judgment."

[Nervously, she nibbled her lower lip.]

"Hmm... Maybe you could tell Yuuto about Toshi too. Only if it's okay for you, of course! But I don't want to have secrets from Yuuto. You know?"

(Hopefully Toshi will reveal this at some point. I'd like to talk to him about it.)

"Let me think... Actually, there's nothing new. Hmm... Oh! Yuuto knows about my questionable taste in music now. He caught me listening to... Kpop."

[Nalia had to laugh at herself.]

"Is that juicy foxy news enough for you? Sorry for being so boring..."

[Toru grabbed Nalia's arm on the street as she was heading towards her car. He clanged at the vehicle, grinning.]

"Nice wheels, by the way... but that's not why I'm here. Nalia, you're not going to believe this but I visited Yuriko-chan and met her boyfriend."

[Scratching his head, Toru gave a pleading gaze to Nalia.]

"I think I messed up a bit... Haah... I got Yuriko-chan's boyfriend angry at me for sneaking in. I know it was stupid but I just really wanted to see her... I didn't mean anything bad. And now I'm a totally uncute fox in the eyes of Mukami-san...! I told them I was sorry, of course. But dang, that was a bad move just to go in the mansion, right? I was such a stupid fox..."

[Toru sighed deeply.]

"But you still like me and find me cute, right, Nalia?"

[Nalia was on her way to her car when she heard a familiar voice. Smiling, the young woman turned and greeted Toru.]

"Hello Toru-kun."

[Attentively, the redhead listened to the young man's words.]

"Oh? Thank you~"

[A giggle left her lips.]

"The car is new. I'm very happy with it. Now I don't have to take the crowded train."

[She stared surprised at Toru.]

"You went to see Yuriko and Ruki? That's great! Now you finally got to meet the two."

[When Toru looked at Nalia with a pleading gaze and seemed unhappy, she started to worry. However, she remained calm and kept listening.]

"You got Ruki angry?"

(Oh my... That's not good...)

[Hastily, the young woman put her bag in the car.]

"You just sneaked into the mansion?"

[Pondering, Nalia checked Toru's body. Luckily, she couldn't find any injuries.]

"Ruki must have thought you were an intruder... Damn, Toru-kun. That was really a bad idea. What the hell were you thinking? You can't just run into a house like that. You need to announce a visit beforehand."

[Sighing, Nalia gazed at Toru.]

"You're not a stupid fox. Please don't say something like that. Your action was thoughtless, but you apologized and now you know that you better not do something like that again. You learn from your mistakes. I'm sure Yuriko can convince Ruki to give you a second chance. Everything will be fine."

[The following words hit Nalia right in the heart.]

"What kind of nonsense are you talking about? Why should I dislike you now?"

[Without hesitation, Nalia took Toru in her arms and comforted him.]

"You are and will always be the cutest fox to me. Nothing will ever change that. I'm just so sorry you had such a bad start with Yuriko and Ruki. But don't worry about it. We'll get it fixed."

[After the redhead released the loving embrace, she ruffled Toru's hair.]

"Get in the car. I'll make you some ramen at home. Together with Yuuto we'll figure out how you can make it up."

The Kitsune Lore & Facts

This post was written together with @nalia-tsukino and @ruki-mukami-dl (vampire parts). It is a mix of actual kitsune legends, Diabolik Lovers' lore, and things we have come up with on our own. It is used as a base for Yuriko's canon story and both Rukiko and YuuNa RP stories. It is also the backstory both Nalia's admin and I use for our RPs on Tumblr. About Yuriko

Yuriko is a kitsune from her mother's side. Her parents sealed her kitsune side with blood magic combined with Vibora venom, and she didn’t know about her heritage until Mukami Ruki broke the seal by taking her blood regularly. But even before that, she dreamed about a mysterious forest and a white fox who was revealed to be her big brother, Yuuto.

The History of the Kitsune

The kitsune are divided into two races: Zenko (善狐) and Yako (野狐)

Both are of the same origin. The very first kitsune were created by the goddess Inari. They used to live in the Kitsune Realm, a parallel world alongside the Human World and the Demon World. With the increasing population, they divided into different paths, and the clans of the Zenko and Yako were born. After a civil war over land, the Zenko made a deal with Inari, promising to serve as her messengers, while the Yako allied with the Founders of the Demon World.

In the end, Zenko stayed in the Kitsune Realm, now called the Zenko Realm and the Yako ended up moving into the Demon World because they were promised land there.

However, kitsune blood turned out to be very delicious and even addictive for certain demons, which led later to conflict between the Yako and other demons. At this point, the Yako were so tangled up with demon politics and society that returning to the Human World didn't seem an option. They stayed and formed their own set rules they live by these days, too.

Being sometimes hunted by other demon races, the number of the Yako has grown smaller, stirring up deep hate, especially against the Vampires and the Vibora.

To make their situation better, Yako elders decided to grow the numbers by kidnapping Zenko maidens as brides for their males (the Yako have fewer females than males because females were hunted more). Some of the maidens were taken after they reached adulthood (18 years old) so that they could be married instantly and produce much-needed Yako offspring.

To avoid another war, the Zenko looked for a peaceful solution to protect their females. All portals connecting the Zenko Realm with the Human World got protection tied to Zenko's blood. Now, the Yako, humans, or other beings could no longer find the portals and enter the Zenko Realm. Only kitsune or half kitsune with Zenko blood were able to use the portals. However, Yako, humans, or other beings could pass the portal accompanied by a Zenko.

The Yako didn't give up and approached the Zenko females in the human cities and villages and kept kidnapping them.

Of course, the Zenko reacted to this and formed a kind of police. Their task was to monitor the portals connecting the Human World with the Demon World and follow the entering Yako. Since then, the kidnapping had stopped.

Every now and then young adult Yako sneaks into the Human World to have some fun, but this is tolerated by the Zenko.

The Kitsune Facts

The kitsune are intelligent beings with a long lifespan. If they live long enough, they can grow up to nine tails. A healthy kitsune can live for about 1000 years. Half kitsune don't get that old. They have a lifespan of about 600 years. Only with the attainment of the third tail they are recognized as adults by the elders.

Family relationships are important and above everything else. The family will decide the fate of its members and can heavily punish anyone who doesn't obey.

For the Yako, females are rarer than males. So, the Yako don't accept marriage between kitsune female and male from another species. Though there have been cases of human males unknowingly marrying a Yako female, who can be a devoted wife. If the human eventually discovers the kitsune's true nature, the Yako wife is usually forced to leave him. It is possible that the kitsune relatives come for the Yako wife and children. The Zenko, on the other hand, allow these types of marriages.

Due to the deal with goddess Inari, the Zenko take care of her shrines. The males serve as priests there. Each shrine has its own portal through which the priest can reach his house in the Zenko Realm where he lives either alone or with his family.

Most Zenko live in the Zenko Realm, but some live and work in the human world.

Houses in the Zenko realm aren't that big, sometimes even tiny, and built and furnished according to traditional Japanese style.

The kitsune's human form can vary but most of them have yellow eyes.

Humans and the kitsune can have children which are half kitsune. Most of them have yellow eyes but sometimes they can have their human parent's eye color too.

It is possible to seal the half kitsune's fox side with blood magic combined with Vibora's venom.

The Kitsune Fur Colors

Typical Zenko coloring is white and red (white being usually the main color), though sometimes other colors appear too.

Typical Yako coloring is yellowish or brownish, but orange-red isn't uncommon, even white appears every now and then but it's rare.

A white and blue combination is very rare for both.

Skills

High sense of smell — Kitsune's sense of smell is good and they can sometimes even smell the mood shifts of the other person. Most of them don't like using perfumes and such because those can be too strong for their sensitive noses.

High sense of hearing — Kitsune's sense of hearing is good, especially when they are in their fox form.

Faster healing — Kitsune blood allows them to heal faster than humans.

Higher pain tolerance — Kitsune can take more pain than humans.

Shapeshifting — Due to their human-like lifestyle the kitsune spend most of the time of their lives in their human form. All kitsune can change to their fox form after learning by will. It's also possible to bring out only individual body parts like fox ears or tails.

Kitsunebi, the foxfire — Young kitsune's fire doesn't burn. They love to play tricks with it. Older kitsune can turn their fire into burning form and are able to defend themselves with it if they are threatened. They can attack too, but the kitsune avoid fighting and they tend to use their fire to trick the opponent and search for an opportunity to escape. Each kitsune has a different fire color. The very first kitsune were able to change the color of their fire. Over centuries and due to the circulation, this feature was lost more and more. Only the heirs of the very first kitsune's bloodline own it. However, not every one of them who carries it is able to use it. Strong feelings and emotions are necessary triggers. With the altered flames, a kitsune is even able to kill vampires.

Dream walking — Some kitsune can walk into the dreams of others and if they meet another kitsune they can talk there. They can't talk with humans in their dreams but they can show up themselves. However, in a few rare cases, a kitsune can talk to another one or a human in their dream. For this, a very strong emotional bond between them is needed.

The In-between — Kitsune who are able to walk into dreams can create their own dream-like space. They can pull in relatives or other kitsune with which they have a strong bond. How the space looks depends on the said kitsune.

Illusions — After obtaining the third tail, kitsune can learn the skill to create illusions.

Note: Usually, half kitsune has weaker skills than full kitsune but even half kitsune's skills can grow stronger eventually.

Kitsune's Star Pearls (Hoshi no tama)

Glowing pearl which is believed to contain foxfire (kitsunebi) and part of the kitsune's soul.

Usually, the pearl stays within the kitsune and isn't in physical form but the older kitsune are able to separate the pearl from their bodies and carry it with them in their mouth or on their tail.

The pearl can be used to possess other creatures if the kitsune is able to fool them to swallow the pearl. In this case, kitsune's own body falls asleep while they operate through the possessed body.

In the past, there have been more cases of kitsune possessing humans or other supernatural beings but that gave them a bad reputation, and these days it's considered highly rude behavior, and there are kitsune who want even to make possessing others illegal.

Using the pearl has its risks too. If the other person doesn't swallow it but keeps it as their property, the kitsune is tied to that person until they get their pearl back or are able to trick the person to swallow it.

The Kitsune and Sexual Energy

Sometimes kitsune can be seen as a seductress/seducer and in a way, their characteristics remind vampires or succubi/incubi.

They gain energy through sexual contact but they can't live by just that and that way they are different from vampires who can survive with mere blood or succubi/incubi who feed themselves only by sexual energy.

Snatching energy from the sexual partner causes tingling, an enjoyable feeling that fills kitsune's body and mind, heightening the pleasure they get through intercourse or other sexual actions with the partner. It's mentally and spiritually refreshing but also causes growing stamina.

After a sexual encounter, the kitsune might feel more awake than usual and be unable to sleep hence the energy coursing in them.

This sensation can be intoxicating, making the kitsune yearn for more. Similar to alcohol, energy snatching can lead to addiction. However, this happens rather rarely, because the kitsune know the danger and are usually cautious.

The rougher the sex, the more energy is snatched because the intense friction and the stronger mental reaction of the partner cause more energy flow.

Kitsune might also form a romantic relationship and be highly devoted to their partner, wanting only the said partner's energy through sex. Being in love with someone ties them to that partner's energy much more intensively than casual sex with someone.

A sexual encounter with a kitsune isn't dangerous to the other party but can be more tiring than regular sex.

When having regular sexual encounters with a kitsune, a human needs to sleep a lot and eat healthily to regain the lost energy.

Kitsune don't gain energy from each other this way which is why they might be intrigued to seduce humans or other beings.

However, sexual encounters with vampires are different. While a kitsune snatches energy, the vampire gets it back by sucking blood. Both experiences heightened enjoyment but the energy balance stays the same as it was before.

In a sexual encounter of half kitsune, the energy balance remains unchanged. What one partner takes, the other gets back. In this case, both can enjoy their heightened pleasure but are exhausted afterward.

The Kitsune Mating Season

In general, Kitsune have a high sex drive.

Twice a year this is additionally increased. In spring from mid-April to mid-May and in summer around July is mating season due to their inner fox nature.

Due to mating season and fox features the chance to get pregnant is much higher in mid-April to mid-May and July than the rest of the year. Human origin is responsible for normal human chances of getting pregnant over the rest of the year.

During this time, it is difficult for a kitsune to concentrate on other things. Their thoughts are all about sexual encounters. Especially teenagers suffer because of a special season.

However, adults are better able to control their needs and instincts.

As humanity has evolved, so have the Kitsune. Nowadays, similar to humans, they use protection to avoid excessive offspring and unwanted pregnancies.

How to Reveal a Kitsune Who Is in a Human Form

Drunken kitsune can't necessarily keep their human form and might change into their fox form accidentally.

Other supernatural beings (like vampires) can smell kitsune's natural scent. This doesn't obviously force kitsune to change into their fox form but reveals their true nature nevertheless.

Some kitsune hate dogs and become even aggressive if there is a dog nearby, some can stand dogs better but are still a bit anxious. The kitsune might leave quickly when encountering a dog.

Trivia

Kitsune's skills are tied to their blood.

The blood is rich and thick if the kitsune is healthy.

If the kitsune is sick their blood quality lowers and it's hard for them to use their skills.

Kitsune blood tastes sweet for vampires and can be addictive and/or intoxicating.

If a vampire enjoys kitsune blood regularly their tolerance will grow and the blood doesn't have as strong an intoxicating effect as at first, though it still tastes sweet.

Founders find kitsune blood sweet too but, because they are stronger than vampires, the blood isn't addictive or intoxicating for them.

Vibora's venom can null kitsune's skills for a while. While the venom doesn't kill kitsune it makes them vulnerable because they are magical beings and not much of physical fighters.

The goddess Inari is able to create new kitsune by turning humans into either full kitsune or half kitsune. These belong to Zenko due to the deal.

My Diabolik OCs

I have a full family of kitsune OCs for this fandom but I’m going to list only the ones I actively roleplay.

Tsukino Yuriko / Mukami Yuriko

Species: Kitsune 

Yuriko is my main RP character and also my comfort character. She is shipped with Mukami Ruki. But honestly, you all already knew that. You can read her canon story here.

Yuuto is Yuriko’s big brother. He has his own blog (@yuuto-tsukino) on Tumblr, but I mostly RP as him privately. He is shipped with Tsukino Nalia (@nalia-tsukino), who is my friend’s OC.

Jack Sparrow's little sister from a different mother. She is a supporting character in a fan fiction story I wrote (The Hot Winds of the Caribbean), but I also included her in the same RP as Ana. She has no ship, but she wants one, meaning a boat kind of ship.

Aikiwa Yume

Fandom: Naruto

A young woman who didn’t know about her origins. She started as a self-insert (Afi) but grew as her own character, and I gave her another name.

Akatsuki ordered Uchiha Itachi and Hoshigaki Kisame to kidnap Yume without telling them the reason. Later, it was revealed she had been brought out of Konoha before Itachi had slaughtered his whole clan, so she is actually an Uchiha, too.

Yume is shipped with Itachi, and I wrote a 150 000 word story “The Red Dawn” based on that roleplay. The RP story is an AU where Itachi survives but becomes blind after his fight with Sasuke. Yume has twins with him at the end of the story.

In my old home country, I studied Japanese. Certain life circumstances made me to move to Kaminashi City and start a new life there. Luckily, I quickly got a job and an apartment. Some time later, I literally fell over a sleeping vampire. He took a liking to my blood and so I ended up as his prey. However, fate meant it well for me. The creature of the night suddenly found me boring and annoying. His words hurt me very much at that time. I was blind and couldn't see that he always treated me badly...

Now I know better and see clearly. Finally, I am free.

Months later, I met Yuriko in a library. We liked each other immediately and a great friendship developed. After Yuriko freed her big brother Yuuto from the Demon World, she talked a lot about him and made me curious. Of course, my new friend noticed my interest and arranged a meeting. Well, what can I say... The big bad fox stole my heart.
