There are so many, it's bad, and even worse, I'm going to talk about all of them.

Number 1: I want to write about Lisbon and Jane having an argument. Like a proper, full-blown, actually mad at each other argument. I'm thinking Jane does something that puts Lisbon's whole career on the line and she just loses it because she's been warning him and reminding him and he's just been laughing it off and acting like it's nothing when it's her entire life that she is dependent on to live.

It would descend into them bringing up all the things that have bugged them over the years- the most hurtful of which would be Lisbon saying that she's never forgiven him for the comment he made about her father on her birthday and Jane saying he wishes he'd married her instead of Angela because then Red John would have killed her.

Number 2: Something about Wainwright because I love him and he didn't deserve to die. Ideally, it would be about the fall-out of the almost fight with Jane. Maybe he storms off into his office and he expects everyone else to side with Jane, but then Rigsby comes in and says that he gets why he reacted that way because sometimes Jane goes too far.

It would just be them bonding over their shitty fathers and Rigsby saying that Wainwright is a good leader who deserves a lot of good things in life because managing their team can be hard but he's done it so well.

Number 3: CBI beach day. I don't know what happens beyond them actually going to the beach, but I just think a beach day fic would be so fun.

Number 4: A Jane/Lisbon first kiss, ideally during the Tommy Volker case. Lisbon would be obsessing over trying to solve it and Jane would be trying to stop her. Lisbon would be getting aggravated because he's no better due to his obsession with Red John, which would lead to Jane saying that's exactly why he's doing this. Because if Lisbon carries on, she'll reach a point where she's so consumed with solving the case that she can't move on, have friends or even admit that she's in love.

It's that last sentence that causes her to pause. There's something about Jane's tone that is more pained than usual. So she looks up and frowns in that adorable way she does because his words from when he shot her are coming back.

Jane kisses her because she's looking at him with such love in her eyes and because she trusts him. But Jane comes to a realisation once they kiss. If he pursues something with her, she will die. Red John will get to her. He needs to make sure she hates him.

He reaches behind her and he takes the most important case file and he tears it to shreds. Lisbon doesn't forgive him. Not even after they find Volker- if they find him.

Hey! I'll be making your gift for The Mentalist gift exchange :) Do you have a favorite character/ship/headcanon? Any Mentalist fandom tropes/ships to avoid? Any special requests I can try to make happen?

Hi!! I'd really be happy with anything Jane/Lisbon lol, so honestly don't stress. If you're looking to make something other than Jisbon though I have a major soft spot for Cho/Summer (done so dirty by the show smh) and my favorite platonic dynamics are Cho/Lisbon, Jane/Van Pelt, and Cho/Rigsby. I also in general thought Lisbon's thing with Mashburn was just kinda fun if you maybe wanna do something with that idk. And I love work offering more insight into characters like Hightower or Bertram who played major roles in the story but didn't get as much backstory or screentime as the others. Tommy Volker is a favorite under-explored villain, Lisbon's arc with him should have been soooo much longer.

Tropes-wise I love hurt/comfort above all else, but I can vibe with either end of the spectrum on its own, from tooth-rotting fluff to graphic angsty whump. My one stipulation is that I am not a fan of major character death.

If you want to make NSFW content... there is pretty much nothing that icks me and you can feel free to take that as a challenge. I think this fandom is too vanilla and I'm itching to be proven wrong (not that I wouldn't be perfectly happy with something vanilla-- it'd just be fun to see something more out there for a change).

In general no sweat, I'd be happy with pretty much anything :)
