a new (returning) character being added to 9-1-1's roster means that at some point, buck has to scream tommy's name in terror. he just has to. like. can you imagine how much differently that would hit? we saw the members of the 118 give buck the grieving spouse treatment when they all thought eddie was dead in a well. but if buck's boyfriend—as in, his actual, honest to god, officially recognized boyfriend—was in literal danger somewhere? jesus. i just got chills. i need it like oxygen.

#Eddie trying to hold Buck back from putting himself in danger and like. Of course Eddie is terrified too.#Tommy went from 0 to Best Friend status (not like Buck. Never like Buck) so quickly it was almost dizzying #but he *knows* what this means for Buck. Knows what Tommy means *to* Buck and he can feel the terror emanating from him. Can feel his blunt #nails almost drawing blood as he claws at Eddie's skin probably not even aware that he's doing it.#And they fall backwards—Eddie's arms still firmly around him—and Bobby is shouting nonsense reassurance at both of them before he and Chim #go back to save/find Tommy and Eddie's just chanting in Buck's ear ''it's okay everything is going to be okay'' and at some point Buck just #stops fighting and slumps back against him. His entire body shakes and he's just like ''it's Tommy Eddie. I can't lose him. I can't I won't #survive it'' and Eddie's eyes sting with tears but he's just like ''I know I know. Everything will be okay'' and holds him through it while #Buck falls apart in his arms.#anyways.#yeah. that would be kinda sexy i dunno #jack.txt #bucktommy

One day Dustin walkie talkies Steve, asking to host DnD at his place, and Steve answers back that dude no, he's busy and hangs up the walkie.

Dustin responds in a huff, flipping off the walkie, before packing up his DnD stuff and angrily biking over to Steve's place anyway. He's got the biggest place, he loves him, and he's probably not even busy anyway. He goes on a million dates, he can cancel.

So Dustin arrives, throws his bike on the front lawn, and angrily knocks on the door. He can hear noise from inside - Steve isn't busy, the bastard - and frowns as the door opens to reveal Steve. Hes wearing a button down shirt and dress pants, an apron tied over top. Before he can say anything, Steve looks at him, and frowns.

"Dustin? What? Dude, I told you I was busy." Steve says, placing one hand on his hip and the other resting on the open door.

"Come on Steve," Dustin says, rolling his eyes. "It's one date with a girl you're never gonna see again. Just tell her you changed your mind. Hellfire is more important."

"Hellfire is more important?" Steve says, and before he can say anything else, a voice echoes out through the Harrington house.

"Steven?" A feminine voice calls. "Have my guests arrived yet?"

"No Ma," Steve calls back. "It's one of the kids I babysit."

Oh, Dustin thinks, he's busy at a party with his mom. And something in Dustin coils, frustrated. Why did he hang up the walkie then? And why did he say he's Dustin's babysitter? He's not a kid anymore, he's a teenager now. He can handle himself. He's way more mature than most adults out there.

Steve turns back to Dustin, hand still on hip, eyebrow raised.

"Well why didn't you say something Steve!" Dustin replies, gesturing exasperatedly with his hands.

"I did." Steve says firmly. "I told you I was busy. It's not my fault you didn't listen."

And Dustin flusters. "It wasn't- I just- I thought-"

"You thought?" Steve prompts, raising an eyebrow at him, and Dustin shrinks under his gaze. He's never felt so small.

"I thought you were lying to get out of it." He replies, basically a whisper. "Or just going on one of your dates."

"And what? You thought I didn't want to host badly enough that I'd lie about it, and showed up anyway? You thought I'd abandon a date last minute to host a game I don't even play?" Steve says, and Dustin can feel the pressure behind his words. "Or I'd let you host a game in my house without me there? Fat chance."

Dustin looks down at his feet and tries not to let his lip wobble. To repress the urge to stamp his feet and yell. Instead he clenches his fists, tight by his side, and feels his stomach churn. He just wants to play his game.

Steve sighs, runs a hand through his hair, and looks down at Dustin softer this time.

"Dust, you know I love you right?" He says, placing a hand on his shoulder. Thick, and warm, and comforting. "But you've got to learn some fucking boundaries, bud."

Dustin snorts, weak and watery. "Okay.

Thinking about how in a parallel universe there’s a version of this season where the Natalia actress was available so Buck got the “move in, move out, you don’t have to force intimacy on a speed run” storyline and Eddie and Marisol break up off screen.

And how, in that universe, there’s a 7.04 from Eddie’s perspective that ends with Tommy taking him home from the hospital and making a comment about Buck and Eddie saying “No, I knew he was jealous that we were hanging out without him. I kept meaning to invite him along but..” “But?” hesitant yet smoldering eye contact. “I didn’t really want to share your attention.”

#i also think it would be easier to break up eddie and tommy just because eddie is inherently more cautious than buck #he wouldn’t throw his whole self into the relationship right away #and buck and natalia could pretty easily part on good terms #you could even have used a four episode tommy arc to springboard eddie into the shannon thing #confronting his remaining feelings for her #moving toward a big danger in love with buck realization #mind you bucktommy has been a delight and i’m so glad we have it #i’m just… thinking

I'm gonna be this person for a minute because the things I read sometimes are just... not that. Some of you really need to talk to elder millenials instead of profiling Tommy based on your very young life experience. Please. The generation gap really shows and you misinterpret everything about him because his behavior of a late 30s/early 40s man doesn't match your less than 25 years old life. And I get it, you do with what you know, it's perfectly normal, but don't project yourself in a story where characters will invevitably be very different from you. Learn to know them instead. And even if you're jealous of Tommy (because I know how it works, you don't fool me), it's not a reason to paint a portrait of him that is nowhere near his canon self and what we see on screen. We're not dramatic teens anymore at this age and details are a lot less important when they're not about really meaningful things, as is life-scale things.

Tommy not wearing perfectly in-theme clothes at the party is nothing. It's a shame, sure, but does it spoil the fun (they end up not having)? Absolutely not. And remember: they just met. It's not like they've known each other for months or years and have high expectations because they have a history together. What is important here? That he showed up or that he wears the right outfit? He showed up while being on call. This is big. Details are details. It's like saying a 6 course meal was horrible because they didn't have the dessert you wanted and had to choose something else. No, the dinner was delicious, shame they didn't have the dessert but it's nothing. You still enjoyed the damn food served.

Creating posts about how Tommy doesn't care about Buck because of this kind of details, and using your personality as a reference to profile Tommy?? This is not how things work. It's not because you can't relate that it's wrong. It's not because it doesn't fit your fic ideas that it's not valid. It's not because it's different that it's not right. You can just say you don't like him for who he is, it's fine! No one is forced to like him. But don't twist the character's personality to fit your narrative. This is not how things work.

And please talk to people. Just, you know, sharing basic life things, in a safe space. It's possible and it's great, for everyone involved.

Ok so in all honesty I’m hoping the look Buck’s mom gave after seeing him and Tommy was nothing more than her old brain trying to understand and process what she was seeing…

I really hope if his parents mention Tommy anytime soon on the show the depth of angst is so shallow it doesn’t even faze Buck… maybe even surprises him a little that it goes so well. Because we don’t have much time left with Buck this season and even less with Tommy and I want it to be so happy and easy for them
