happy winter solstice, my dudes! i have once again committed the act of Posting Fic (hinata deaging fic chapter 5)

for the uninitiated:

I'll Draw Three Figures On Your Heart

On what really ought to have been a routine hunter-nin assignment, Hinata winds up (1) gallivanting across the Elemental Countries in the company of two infamous missing-nin and (2) being de-aged by an experimental jutsu. (Not in that order.) Itachi is rather surprised to run into a six-year-old version of his former best friend; Kisame is rather surprised to discover that Itachi has a secret Big Brother Mode; Hinata (de-aged) is rather surprised to be semi-forcibly adopted by the two of them. Somehow, between their 1.5 collective social skills, they make it work.

ahh One Day i'll make a big post about why the episode, reality, (amongst some others) genuinely make me think ichijou would be happier without his police job (which I'm aware is a real hot take) and based on some other stuff by extension, actually maybe would enjoy adventuring with godai... I understand it completely but I just don't fully jive with the interpretation I often see, that ichijou will always stay back and remain a cop because this is The Way It Has To Be etc. and godai will adventure and go off to his own world but return to him... i think he'd struggle with allowing it for himself (tbh. it's something he has to be dragged kicking and screaming away from, because he does THINK that it's The Way It Has To Be) he's so goddamn repressed but I don't think the whole duty-bound thing is good for him and I feel there's a sense of disillusionment that's going to hit when the ulf stuff is all wrapped up... like don't get me wrong he will Never Ever quit naturally and needs to be Heavily Influenced, but still, I think other things would be more fulfilling, at least a little bit even if not as a 100% of time thing... and there's lots more to this but articulating ideas hard.

The first chapter of purify our misfit ways is now up on AO3, encompassing almost all the content posted to tumblr.

I’ve edited and expanded it a bit more heavily than usual, because I wrote a lot of the first draft while exhausted and miserably sipping an overpriced smoothie while killing six hours in my least favorite airport. Still sort of trying to figure out what I’m doing with this fic, so I may go back and edit it further, but I think it’s hit some kind of minimum threshold of acceptability and I basically wanted to overwrite the tumblr draft.
