Travis Helwig’s Twitter thread starts here.
The Entertainment Community Fund used to be called The Actors Fund.
Tumblr media
They’re a good organization to have in your bookmarks if you are in the entertainment business, so it makes sense that others would be referring to them as a point of support.

I'm honored to be joining @BatsyBunny in their charity pin collab to support folks affected by the SAG-AFTRA strike!
Here's a preview of the neon Alastor cameo pin based on "The Other Side" from The Greatest Showman~!
This line just felt right🗝️

unfriendly reminder that the people organizing "crab day" are christian terfs that aren't at all subtle about it.
tumblr's debt is their fault. they've shown that they don't care about their base - especially the trans women/fems on the platform - and should not be rewarded for this behavior.
use your money on better things. plenty of fundraisers that need help you can donate to (please reblog this to add in yours/flip through reblogs to find someone's fundraiser) or you could help out the Entertainment Community Fund since LA has predictably sided with Universal.
or any other number of funds.
just do not participate in crab day.

https://www.playbill.com/article/photos-merrily-we-roll-along-spamalot-more-celebrate-entertainment-community-fund-producers-picks-performances-on-broadway
Since August 2023, a slew of Broadway shows have held performances with blocks of tickets dedicated to supporting the Entertainment Community Fund as part of their Producer's Picks program. Producer's Picks tickets are donated by the producers of each show, and ticket buyers' purchase then goes to support the ECF's programs and services. [Merrily donated tickets at four shows.]
"All of us working on Merrily We Roll Along are of the lucky minority of employed theatre artists," Jonathan Groff said at a recent curtain call. "The large majority of our industry works paycheck to paycheck, and they depend on organizations like the [ECF] to fill in the gaps. Since COVID, since 2020 alone, the [ECF] has raised and distributed over $48 million to people in our industry. It's not just actors—it's the front of house, it's the ushers, it's the crew, it's the band members, it's the family members of all of the artists working in our industry."

The Entertainment Community Fund has raised more than $7 million and distributed $4.7 million-plus to more than 2,300 film and TV workers as of Friday during the strikes by the Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA. The WGA’s strike began May 2 and SAG-AFTRA’s started July 14. “Given the heightened rate of requests for emergency financial assistance due to the work stoppage, the Fund is distributing about $400,000-$500,000 per week, compared to an average of $75,000 per week in the first half of 2023,” the ECF said in an update today. The greatest number of applications for financial assistance are from California, followed by Atlanta and New York. The Entertainment Community Fund, formerly known as The Actors Fund, is helping film and television workers in need with emergency financial assistance to cover basic living expenses such as rent, groceries, health insurance, and medical bills, as well as mental health support.

BID ON ELEMENTARY PROPS AND OTHER COOL STUFF!
The wgarage sale is now live. All kinds of great stuff to bid on... including original ELEMENTARY props donated by me. Proceeds support the Entertainment Community Fund, which helps showbiz folks struggling because the AMPTP sucks. Bid away!
Oh, and I'll let you in on a little secret, there might be a DS9 pocketknife crew gift in my box too, but I forgot to include it in the authentication letter. Not 100% sure it's in there though. So... possible bonus item!

Hi everyone! Wanted to make the post here too. In the most recent chapter notes of What Was Stolen, I linked to the Entertainment Community Fund. I will NEVER expect payment for my hobby writing, but I would be remiss to not use my platform (however small) when the industry I work in is crumbling and creatives need support.
If you have enjoyed What Was Stolen and have a dollar to spare, please consider donating to the Entertainment Community Fund to support myself and so many other writers and actors in their striking efforts here in LA.
No pressure at all. If you do donate, you can choose to “make your donation a tribute” and I thought it would be funny to make our Honoree Sonic, or fanfiction writers. Idk, I’d like to make someone’s day as a small influx of donations in the name of “Sonic the Hedgehog” comes in. /I/ think it is VERY funny, alright??? Anyway, thank you for reading and for supporting as the industry crumbles and rebuilds itself💙
