TLT BRE Cosplay Progress Thread!

Between working Summer Stock I've also been helping organize and participating in the @tlt-big-resurrection event! One of my favorite things about this event is it includes cosplayers! When I was browsing fic summaries to find what I wanted to do I came across @incorrect-house-of-nine 's fic. Title pending but its a steam/chem/desert punk Locked tomb AU Mummyesque/Indiana Jones type adventure. (Yes I stole that description straight from them kfjjlasdjfsdf) It's been a blast learning about their amazing world building for it and I've REALLY enjoyed reading it as it unfold. Y'all are in for a treat. This is for Gideon's outfit so far. I ended up having to draft the harness thing from scratch after trying to alter patterns (just worked better) and I still gotta add the hood and strap and stuff. It's great to finally see it all coming together finally. I'll be making Gideon and Harrow for this event (and probably doing more after when I have more time/better locations/can maybe drag friends into this dfafd) Photos are: my progress, the inspiration, and a super quick sketch to get an idea of the pieces together for my own brain.

Hey, folks! We have one week left before sign ups close. We've had a great turnout so far, but want to make sure that everyone who would like to participate signs up. >> Sign Up Form << We want to thank everyone participating. Everyone has been so wonderful in the server. We see people sharing ideas, progress, and hyping each other up. People are having sprints and talking about theories. It's fantastic to watch and makes us so happy to be running the event. We also want to give a special thank you to a mod we've added, @ambiguouswren. Wren has been a fabulous addition to our team. They're participating as a cosplayer, writer, and artist -- so we're definitely looking forward to seeing all their contributions go live when posting starts. More than that, they've been active in making sure questions get answered and keeping conversation live in the server. They're an incredible person and a fantastic friend. “Steve?” Steve sat up, pulling Eddie up along with him and into his arms, crushing the other boy to his chest, the snowfall slowing to a stop as they held each other. Eddie pulled back, running his hands up and down Steve’s arms, shoulders, and chest, as if searching him for wounds, before they found their way to Steve’s face, gently wiping away the wetness left behind by the melting snow.   “Are you okay?” Steve stared back at him, feeling lightheaded and a little breathless, unsure if it was due to the poppies or the way Eddie was handling him like he was something precious. ”I think so, w-what about you?” “Better now.” Eddie smiled, tilting his head as he fully cupped Steve’s cheek.  The touch was warm and gentle, and the look in Eddie’s eyes so tender that Steve couldn’t help turning away to blush—the butterflies waging assault in his stomach returning with a vengeance. The move had him looking back at the others for the first time since he woke up, and while The Scarecrow was helping The Lion to his feet, The Tin Woman stood behind them, frozen.  “Damn, the snow—it’s got her rusted again.”

“What was it like?” Harrow asks. “Learning to wield it.”

Gideon laughs weakly. “Hard. Possessed Weapons classes are weirdly heavy on the necromancy. But it’s because it’s hours of training yourself to ignore all the shit these fucking revenants try to tell you. And then you move up to actually trying to hold onto it with Soul Siphoners and Spirit Adepts at the ready in case you actually get possessed.”

“Did it ever happen?”

“Almost happened once. But it helps when there’s someone there to ground you and talk you back into your body. Most of the time, it just made me sick whenever I held it. Like I was underwater or something. But that was months ago, and this one’s been behaving so far.” To prove the point, she stands to carry the sword through a brief flow she learned in class, relieved to feel that it still listens.

Harrow watches with great interest as Gideon moves, and says, “I heard they work very well against revenants.”

“Yup. Don’t get to experiment with that very often, but that’s the idea.”

“Would you be open to experimenting with it?”

Gideon raises a brow, but the statement isn’t a threat. Harrow poses it just as if she would post any other academic question — as if they’re sitting here talking about revenants and swords in the same way they would about theoretical necromancy. “Is this like…a super weird way of you asking me out? Because I’m not disinterested but you’re giving a very creepy pitch.”

Harrow folds her hands gently on her crossed knee. “I’m not here to ask you out. What I need is your body.”

Gideon balks at the forwardness, but only flounders for a moment before sliding on a smile that she hopes is charming to bone witches. “Well, I don’t usually fuck before a first date, but since you asked so nicely — ”

“You are in the unique position of being able to wield a weapon that can manage against a horde of revenants. As skilled as I am, that is a distinct weakness of mine so it will be beneficial to have you for the purposes of protection. Your request for fornicating has been duly noted and categorically ignored.”

Gideon blinks, genuinely at a loss for words which turns out to be a profusely unfamiliar feeling. “...Harrow, what the fuck are you talking about? Why the hell do you need me to protect you against revenants?”

Harrow straightens her shoulders and declares with a casualness that leaves Gideon both creeped out and a little bit more attracted to Harrow than she was ready to admit before. “Because I need your help resurrecting a monster.”

Ok I just beat the game Signalis last night and am currently reading The Locked Tomb and suddenly I had an epiphany and started noticing similarities. So now your going to listen to my unhinged rant I wrote.

Maybe I’m just going crazy but here it goes.

So first thing is that the stories have pretty similar themes. The horror of love, the blending of life and death, people going way to far for those they love, the universe going completely fucking nuts, a lot of queer text and subtext, Eldritch horror etc. I’ll be honest it’s not amazing but it ain’t nothing neither.

The big thing is that the Signalis universe itself fits right in with TLT. So like imagine, One of the escape groups got clipped by god on the way out, knocked them way off course, damaged their ship and fried their jump drive. These humans land on one of the planets in the isolated Heimat system and over the course of 10,000 years forget how they got to the system (which is totally believable) and develop their own culture (that uses Earth languages and takes much from some earth cultures). They colonize the solar system using tech they don’t fully understand (which is why there’s a lot of CRT monitors and Cassette Futurism stuff) and eventually their society dissolves into a war. Their system is isolated by their version of an Ort cloud so they receive no transmissions from the universe outside

Bio-resonance kinda looks like a weird branch of necromancy if you squint and tilt your head. Not sure how these people got it but they’ve got a lot of banged up planets so who knows. The big thing that really gets me on this is how similar Harrow’s Bubble and Ariane’s dream feel and behave. Familiar locations that are slowly consumed by flesh, reality sorta breaking down and changing with limited to no warning, much of it based on the creators memory, the dead running around (not sure if the twins are still alive) along side bunch of constructs based on memory etc.

I could also see the Replikas being created using Necromancy. Someone figured out a way to somehow copy souls and stick them in robot bodies. It’s not one to one with TLT but it’s believable. It also adds a bunch of cool world building, some of these copied souls are also capable of necromancy/ bio-resonant. The fact that these souls are sort of Gideon like revenants, sort of dead but also sort of alive…like it works…sort of… souls can possess constructs in the TLT universe. It’s a cool idea is the point.

(Insert Elster and Gideon doing the spider man pointing thing cause they’ve got a lot of similarities.)

Also Elster and Ariane’s relationship looks an awful lot like a Cav/ Necro paring when I look at it in this light.

I’ve gotta do something with this.

The Locked Tomb Big Resurrection Event

Hello everyone!

Welcome to the first ever TLT Big Resurrection Event, a big bang for The Locked Tomb fandom!

RULES

Each fanfic must be 10k at the very least

Art can be digitally or traditionally created drawings/paintings, or cosplay

Works must be part of The Locked Tomb fandom

Settings from other media are allowed, but characters are not (e.g. John can have the Death Star, as a treat, but Darth Vader cannot appear)

Works of any rating are allowed

While there is no age limit for participating, anyone under 18 may not write an E-rated work or create art for an E-rated work

We wanted to include cosplay(ers), because The Locked Tomb fandom has so many incredible cosplayers, we felt like it was a logical choice!
