Caretaker au idea train is still rolling! So I’m going on to my next long ask: what life is like for a human scp!
Starting with their rooms, cause they really are rooms. One of the first things a new anomalous human is asked to do upon arriving is picking a wall colour and bed spreads. The room is styled like a mix of bedroom and living room, with an attached bathroom, and while things have to be chosen to be sturdy, it’s good furniture and not prison-style stuff. Things can be shuffled around if a scp comes in with a special consideration needed (reactions to a certain fabric, can’t have sharp edges on furniture, etc.), but the general rule is comfort first and then long-lasting.
After furniture, personal possessions will be moved in. These are things that were picked up from their life outside the foundation and have been given the all-clear from check-in staff. Things like clothes and precious personal items fall into this category. Some will start to be put away before the scp moves into their room, but most will be left up to them. The foundation has found that them rearranging their clothes in the wardrobe and working out where to put prized decorations has helped the scp settle in more and start to feel like the space is theirs. The only thing they tweak is making sure they don’t have too much to do at once, in the interest of making sure they don’t get overwhelmed. So things are brought in stages.
The anomalous human can make requests for new things, and they’ll fall into one of two categories. Needs and wants; needs are covered without question and as quickly as possible, while wants are mostly granted but they do have a budget. Mostly so that they don’t go completely off the rails; “No, you can’t have an Xbox, a PlayStation, and a Switch. Pick one”. I’d imagine there’s a system in place for human scps to earn money around the site. Things like doing little chores or acting as assistants that they can receive a pay check for, letting them buy desired luxuries at their leisure.
After a short settling in period, they’ll be given a keycard that lets them go in and out of their room as well as access any safe areas of the site; probably on a lanyard with a unique colour so they can be identified. So places like the staff cafeteria and break rooms, community kitchens, and any levels that are predominantly safe. This allows them to pretty much free roam as they please. It won’t allow them to go up to the exit or down to the levels where dangerous scps are housed though. Their keycard is tied to their particular room door; another human scp’s keycard is not able to open their personal room. It allows some privacy and control; scp friends can come in, but they have to be invited in. There’s also a curfew of 10pm, at which time they have to be back in their own rooms unless they’re staying with another and have already gotten permission to do so (they can have sleepovers). This is mostly for safety reasons; if something happens during the night shift, a breach or an attack or something, the staff need to know where everyone is. And their rooms are honestly one of the safest places for them to be, designed to keep anomalies in check yes, but also designed to keep out anything unwanted, protecting those inside. Before any are allowed to start roaming, they are taught the breach and attack warning sirens, so that they know when to run for cover.
When a human scp is first allowed to free roam, they’ll be shown around by another human scp, preferably one as close to them in age as possible; encouraging to make friends. The staff try to group anomalous humans together in the interest of them bonding. Internet is, something I’m still thinking about, but I think they’d be allowed on the internet on devices modified so that they can’t post or upload anything. Exception being the foundation-made chat server (I imagine something like discord); then they can keep in contact with any friends they made easily.
Each human scp has a member of staff who is their primary caretaker. They oversee everything to do with them and pass the important calls on to Caretaker while making the smaller judgements themselves. If a human scp has a member of staff as a family member that they’re close to, they’ll usually be the one chosen for the role (so, dr Bright for TJ, and Clef for Meri). They’ll also be connected to a therapist that they’ll see regularly.
If a human scp is a minor, schooling will continue for them. At the very least, all are encouraged to complete high school. And if one wants to continue their studies on, the foundation will support them. (Me shoving in my ‘TJ would have become a medical practitioner if he’d been given the chance’ headcanon)
There are some things they need supervision for. No rooms come with a kitchen; knives and fires and other sharp things were judged as just too much a risk. They can eat in their rooms or at the staff cafeteria; but if they really want to cook or bake something, there are community kitchens for staff, and humans scps can use it so long as they have a member of staff keeping an eye on them. I’m thinking they do get to go outside sometimes, with supervision and only after not being a flight risk, cause outside is important to health, but I’m running out of steam now.
There is so much thought into this and I love it so much. I imagine that the different scps play like minecraft with eachother. Like they have their own server to themselves. Then in the kitchen they get to cook stuff together (I really want Tj, Meri, and Draven trying to bake for the first time and failing at it)

[ long road trips, worn down friendship bracelets, walking in the front door without knocking and sitting down at dinner with your family, riding carts through empty grocery store aisles at 3am, skipping all the friday nights lights to hang out together, rocks thrown at windows, that favorite diner where you know all the employees intimately, shared clothes and drinks and ex-boyfriends, crying at grad parties ]
tw: suicide attempt
no one is really sure when they all became friends, but after it happened they were rarely apart, rarely seen with anyone else. walking down some backroad in a horde, driving down the freeway at 100 miles an hour, manning the pong table at the parties they were known for throwing in high school. in truth, they’ve been close since elementary school, all living in the same neighborhood, when one summer the girls and boys crossed paths and decided to consolidate friend groups.
obviously, being the mixed group that it was, they had to make sure that no one altered the dynamics of the friendship by getting romantically involved. so, they all made a pact that nothing would happen between them.
still, they experienced everything else together. they were all close by when they had their first kisses, their first joint, their first heartbreak, and for all manner of things good or bad. the friendship wasn’t exactly forged by fire, but with time -- mostly.
boy 2 was always the one holding them all together. he was hardly the parent of the group, but he was the one always willing to just be there. every time someone needed him. what none of them really knew was that he needed all that help themselves.
in their freshman year of high school, he made an attempt to kill himself, and several members of the group walked in to find him unconscious. they effectively saved his life, but none of them were equipped to deal with the knowledge that the person who seemed the strongest and stablest of them all was in fact the most vulnerable.
the event galvanized an already-strong bond and forced them to re-pledge themselves to the group and the promises they had made to each other. that’s why it felt like such a betrayal when tj and boy 1 slept together at the end of senior year, ending tj’s friendship with the rest of the group, more on her own terms than anything.
the group hasn’t been quite the same since then, always feeling sort of empty. now, though, the sixth piece is back in town and only time will tell whether time has been able to heal their old wounds and stitch the found-family back together.
SO, below the cut i have some aesthetics and little blurbs for the other five characters, but i don’t want to dictate everything! i want to work out dynamics, create a timeline for them throughout the years, and ultimately figure out where the next step for them is! whether the rest of them stayed friends or not, whether they left orlando or not, whatever! my only stipulation is they should be the same year as tj because they grew up together. if you have any questions, comments, concerns, pls don’t hesitate to hit me up here or on discord (🗣 morgan 🗣#3278)!

[ TJ COPSEY ]  the goody-two-shoes | 22, haley lu richardson, morgan
// no one ever really believed that tj was really friends with the rest of them. straight-a student, parents at every PTA meeting, and top-tier brownnoser, she never really fit in with the rest of them. she didn’t even truly live within the bounds of their neighborhood, but right outside of it with its crystal-clear pool and trimmed hedges and perfect family unit inside. the mom of the group, she stayed sober and watched after all of her friends at every party. the one party she did drink at, the night of graduation, she ended up sleeping with boy 1 and breaking the pact they’d worked so carefully to keep up through their ten years of friendship. needless to say, it didn’t go over well and she spent the year before freshman year of college by herself. even when the rest of them tried to reach out later, before she went several hours away to georgia tech, her pride got in the way and she’s been avoiding every phone call and text, every visit on breaks. now, though, she’s back in orlando post-grad and trying to navigate the situation.

[ BOY 1 ] the angst machine, reserved for jenn
// the boy with the Traumatic Past, boy 1 cycled through several foster homes before finding himself in the little cul-de-sac where he’d call home. the family wasn’t perfect, but they were better than the ones he’d had in the preceding eight years. he fell in quickly with the neighbor boys, and although he was absolutely a bad influence, their families too. he’s always had a bad rep and a bad attitude, but to say that the group had a soft spot for him would be the understatement of the century. he could get away with bloody murder and, honestly, he kind of did when it turned out that tj got kicked out of the group for doing the same thing he got off scot free for. still, like everything else in his life, it’s something he’s been quite opportunistic about moping about. really, he’s not a chip on his shoulder and a woe-is-me attitude about life, and only like 50% of it is warranted.
Tumblr media
[ GIRL 2 ] the manic pixie dream girl, reserved for maddie
// girl 2 had always been rebellious, but she wasn’t always like that. honestly, she read books about girls that got every guy and made everyone’s head turn when she was young, and she ate that shit up. she’s wildly smart and always has been, but not many people would know because she hardly opened her mouth in high school. always acted like she was a guy’s girl, latching onto the boys in the group, but in truth she would’ve given her life for anyone in the group. she was the one that really spearheaded the oust tj campaign, not because she hated her or wanted boy 1 to herself, but because she took any betrayal of the group incredibly seriously.
Tumblr media
[ BOY 2 ] the glue
// grew up in an average family (divorced parents, naturally), in an average suburban home with beige carpet and beige walls, with average grades and average talent and average everything -- or so he thought. becoming friends with these people was probably the best thing that ever happened to him and he’d say it, but that didn’t help in his struggles with mental health. after his attempt, he hated the way everyone started to walk on eggshells around him. in response, he did something with his life: he did whatever the fuck he wanted. more than likely, he has spent the past four years backpacking europe or #vanlifing or doing shrooms in a field in the middle of idaho. who knows, but he’s living, at least.
Tumblr media
[ GIRL 3 ] the prom queen, reserved for alex
// she’s beauty, she’s grace, she’ll literally spit in your face. probably the poorest of them all; she grew up living with her mom and siblings in the basement apartment of some creepy old guy in the neighborhood. mom had awful boyfriends, worked late, you know the drill. but girl 3 hated the life she was living, so she changed it. she was never book smart, but she was people smart. she knew how to win people over and, more importantly, how to make people simultaneously fear and love her. she was the regina george of their high school, the only one that really had a separate friend group outside of theirs, but the other five were home to her. she spent most of her nights at someone else’s house, became all of their parents’ adopted child. wildly independent, yet always trying to find comfort in someone else.
Tumblr media
[ BOY 3 ] the class clown president, reserved for emily
// probably never been serious a day in his life, and can’t lead a group for shit, but someone became the class president in high school despite it. he has a way with people, between his charming demeanor, sense of humor and good looks, but he doesn’t really know what to do with it. could probably be president of the united states of america if he tried, but he literally never has.

Do you have any mbti ideas for AD characters?
Hey! Well, I have been thinking about it and I have some ideas lol. They’re a bit hard to figure out because, after all, it’s arrested development, meaning they haven’t really grown up, which makes seeing their cognitive functions harder to figure out. Someone did typings on funkymbti, but I don’t agree with all of them 100%, but I’m no expert. But, again, I wouldn’t mind taking a swing at it. My personal rundown, with explanations under the cut, is:
Gob - ESTP (this is the one I am the MOST confident on)
Michael - ESTJ
Lindsay - ENFP
Buster - ISFJ
George Michael - ISFJ
Maeby - ISTP
Lucille - ESTJ
Tobias - ENFP
George - ENTJ
Tony (mostly speculative) - INFJ
Gob - definitely an ESTP. Like, holy shit, he’s a stereotypical ESTP. A stereotypical ESTP is the partier, the jock, the popular kid. He’s totally in a Se-Fe (Extroverted Sensing-Extroverted Feeling) loop most of the time; basically his manic stages because, yes, I have to fit in the bipolar Gob theory whenever possible. Anyways, he seeks adventure and sex and drugs and alcohol and is somehow magically ALIVE, so he either has no limits or knows his limits, making me believe his Se is high. Fe explains his ability to charm people, as Mitch described him as someone who doesn’t even realize he’s being charming. To quote mbti notes, “Tertiary Fe often makes a person seem sociable or charming, which can easily be mistaken as Fe dominant. However, tertiary Fe often has a calculating underside, more likely to treat people instrumentally as tools/objects for self-centered gain (due to higher Ti). Tertiary Fe is more likely to produce relationship failure and social discord (than dominant Fe).” He’s able to observe the environment around him and come to conclusions from time to time, showing his SeNi, like putting together that his mom had been driving Michael in “My Mother the Car”. I said he loops in Se-Fe because his logic (Ti) is very much absent like...constantly. His logic is very abstract and not based in facts like Michael (a total Te user) is. Inferior Ni also explains his need to stick to being a magician despite his total failure at it; lots of tunnel vision can happen with Ni. So, yes, I’d say ESTP.
Michael - This person said ISTJ, but I lean more towards ESTJ, if only for the fact that he’s not nearly as introverted/independent as he likes to believe (he needs the family as much as they need him) and the fact that it means he’d have inferior Fi (Introverted Feeling), explaining his “robotic” nature. Fi also explains why he has his own set of morals that, quite often, go against his family’s. It also definitely explains why he thinks he’s more moralistic than his family but really isn’t; the lower something is in your stack, the weaker it is, but you still might think you’re good at it. The Te-dom nature makes him very driven by facts and logic, and having Te-Ne makes him come up with dry, snarky comebacks. SJs have a rep for normally being pretty traditional due to Si, which isn’t always true, but it works in Michael’s case. I think a lot of his s4 behaviors are signs of inferior Fi/being in a Fi grip versus inferior Ne/being in a Ne grip. To quote mbti notes’ spotting guide on inferior Fi, “Their failures usually involve: being too aggressive and then getting severe pushback, taking on too much then suffering exhaustion, or being so focused on bottom line efficiency/results that they neglect other important things.” ESTJ.
Lindsay - She’s definitely an Fi user; she has her own morals and ethics that aren’t decided by her family, so she’s an FP or TJ. They said ESFP, but I might honestly lean more towards an ENFP. When she’s stressed out, she goes back to Tobias, and in s5a, they have her leave to find her “real” family, which indicates an inferior Si to me. But when she’s less stressed, she’s able to change her life around quite easily. She changes her focus a lot, including what size of a cause she’s on, and she’s very adaptable, normally a high Ne trait. And Lindsay having the same functions as Michael but in a different order really helps explain why they tend to get along well, I think. ENFP.
Buster - Buster is a hard one, god. He’s been robbed of so much of his adulthood that it’s hard to figure out his cognitive functions. Stereotypically, I think he fits as an ISFJ (Si-Fe-Ti-Ne). Si-doms are stereotyped as being very into routines, and Buster had trouble leaving his routines behind when Lucille was in jail. He craves approval of others, particularly his mom and his older siblings, which could indicate Fe, and higher Fe tends to make people warm and friendly, which is definitely a Buster trait. Through Ti he’s normally able to come up with some logical explanations, like figuring out Uncle Oscar is his dad, but he’s not too concerned with logic. His Ne is basically non-existent, since his growth has been so stunted. But, yeah, he likes things to stay the same and he’s a sweetheart, so I’d say ISFJ.
George Michael - Definitely an ISxJ, since when he’s stressed, he easily falls into the grip of Ne - spiraling anxiety. To, again, quote mbti notes, this time on inferior Ne, “Their failures usually involve: being too anxious or worried (catastrophizing), being overwhelmed by too much novelty or rapid change, or micromanaging situations (sometimes due to unwillingness to delegate).” I think I’d go with ISFJ because I think he has to have Fe in his stack; he’s very worried about keeping peace and harmony, and while Michael keeps the family together, GM is the one who actually wants the family to be together. Fe is often about togetherness. ISFJ.
Maeby - I definitely agree with the typing done on her as an ISTP. Her Ti-dom nature makes her very prone to being a bit rude and cynical, as well as independent and she can figure things out on her own. Inferior Fe pops up in her being unintentionally (or sometimes truly just intentionally) cool or rude to people around her. Hell, she purposefully tried to make GM feel bad for no reason. She’s definitely someone who lives in the moment (Se) and she’s able to get things to fall into place...most of the time. Definitely Se in her nature, so I could also see ESTP as well, but her Fe seems to be her biggest blind spot and she lashes out when she’s upset. And to quote mbti notes, “However, tertiary Ni often leads to very superficial judgment, more likely to carelessly dismiss deeper meaning or potential for growth (due to higher Se). Tertiary Ni is more likely to have a dejected or cynical attitude about what is possible in life (than dominant Ni).” Let’s not forget how she ended s4 by refusing to say she made a huge mistake. ISTP.
Lucille - another tough one. I’m sure most people would put her as an ENTJ since that’s normally considered “the mastermind”, but I don’t know. I’ve always said the child most like her is Michael, so I could definitely see ESTJ. Te-Ne would explain how she’s able to think so quickly on her feet, both in regards to lying to people and with her insults. She’s definitely set in her ways, a definite Si related trait. Her active blind spot is definitely her morals, much like Michael, but she’s a bit better at hiding it since she is older. ESTJ.
Tobias - I think the person who typed on funkymbti did a good job with ENFP. From the mbtinotes on dom Ne/inferior Si “Their failures usually involve: not being able to prioritize the best ideas to pursue/develop, carelessness with details that leads to failure, or feeling restricted such that they cannot access inspiration/hope for long periods.” Ne explains his willingness to give up the career that he had for decades as well as how he’s willing to change what kind of performing he does. I’d say FiTe works because he’s not necessarily into harmonizing and he’s definitely devoted to what he thinks is right to him, not necessarily what people tell him to do, since he has no problem pursuing an acting career despite everyone telling him it’s a dumb idea. ENFP.
George - Eh, I do my best not to think about him lol. I actually 100% agree with this person’s reading on him and would definitely say he’s an ENTJ. His family are chess pieces to him, he’s always scheming, very much a Te-Ni trait. His inferior Fi makes him pity himself when he’s stuck in a bad situation. Yeah, I’ll stick with ENTJ.
Tony - I’m not sure there’s really enough to work with for him at this point. I’m tempted to say INFJ, since that makes him Gob’s “mirror” type, meaning his has the functions in the opposite order of Gob (ESTP would be Se-Ti-Fe-Ni and INFJ is Ni-Fe-Ti-Se), and that’s supposed to make people a “perfect” match. But, since they’re same, maybe he’s an ESTP? Lol. Well, he definitely has a singular vision like a Ni-dom would, which is making it as a magician (contrasted to Gob’s inferior Ni that he always falls back on that one vision, Tony’s whole life is definitely magic). Again, from the mbti notes page, this time on inferior Se, “In low moments of weakness, they become very rash or extreme in behavior.” This could explain what we hope is just him faking his death (where are you s5b???). He claims he’s good at faking being gay and definitely has some manipulative, suave tendencies that could be an upper Fe trait. So, yeah, why not? INFJ.
I’ll also say the Steve Holt gives me ESFJ vibes (very sweet and warm, popular, goes with the flow, values family) and Ann Veal seems like an IxFP (guided by her own morals and ethics). I could definitely be wrong, though.

end of year asks
Im just going to answer these instead of waiting to be asked because I’ve got time to kill before lunch gets here and D&D starts
but cut because this is a long one!
what did you learn about yourself this year?
that virtual hangouts are delightful and a great way to hang out with people that you would have only seen a few times a year. My closest friends I’ve made in person, so we always hung out in person, which didn’t work so well when they moved to other states. But now we’re doing calls and hanging out in discord rooms and it’s been SO lovely
best moment of the year?
getting a new manager so I dont need to deal with my last one’s pettiness anymore
worst moment of the year?
The Unpleasantness
what was the biggest change you experienced this year?
Working remote. I’m still not as productive as I was in office, but at this point I think that’s more to do with constant stress due to .... you know 2020, and not the change in where I’m working
best song of the year?
According to Spotify the song I listened to the most was Brutus by the Buttress, mind you it apparently came out in 2016 soooooooo
best album of the year?
According to Spotify, the album I listened to the most was Dreamland by Glass Animals
what’s one thing that happened this year that you want to change?
The Unpleasantness
best book/book series of the year?
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune was the one book that made me cry, and one of my few 5 star reads of the year, so I’m saying that one.
best television series?
Oh gosh, I watched so much many more shows then usual due to This Year, but I’m going to say 2gether. Did I start watching it solely because one of the main characters is named Tine and that’s the nickname went by throughout all of middle/high school (and what a number of people still call me)? Yes 100%. It was such a sweet fun show, and it was the first in a long line of Thai BL shows I ended up watching this year. The genre is problematic as heck, 90% of the shows I’ve seen are honestly pretty awful representations of queer relationships, there are entirely too many fans of the genre fetishizing young asian men, and often you’re being encouraged to with the writing/fanservice scenes which is extra unsettling as a queer 30 something lady. However a good deal of the shows I’ve watched remind me of fluffy fanfic, and I am ALL about fluffy low stakes romance media this year.
how was your love life this year?
my what
what made you cry the most this year?
general compounded stress due to... you know this year
biggest regret of the year?
Pretty early on in the year I made a choice to be extremely gentle with myself because of everything happening. So while I probably should have more regrets for not going as aggressively after promotions or whatever, I’m choosing to really just focus on getting through this.
best movie of the year?
The Old Guard
favourite place you traveled this year?
*sob*
did you make any new friends?
Not exactly, but I did get closer to a number of friends that were more casual acquaintances
did you learn anything about your sexuality this year?
Nah, still queer, still mostly identifying as aro ace
what are some hobbies that you developed?
brewing kombucha! I started this pretty early in the year because I got a kit last Christmas, and have been having a lot of fun figuring out how flavours work together and how to subtly tweak the brew. I don’t have the space at the moment to expand my experimentation, but it’s been making me want to get into other fermentation projects as well
what surprised you the most this year?
how spectacularly badly my country reacted to The Unpleasantness. I was not under any delusions that the US cared about people who aren’t pointlessly rich, but I didn’t expect it to be QUITE this bad
do you look different from the beginning of the year?
My hair has gotten a lot longer and I’ve started using colored conditioners to give it a tint. My haircuts have always been a once a year major chop, so missing that this year has resulted in it being quite a lot longer then I like.
how did this year treat you in general?
In the grand scheme of things, not bad. Everyone in my household (that was still employed) also work in an office, so no one lost their job when things changed. There’s also the thing where I’m from a middle class white family so thanks to living in America, that automatically stacks a lot of things in my favor
what message would you give yourself at the beginning of the year?
You’re going to want to order some comfy pants, toilet paper, and snacks in advance.
has your fashion style changed this year?
My general look has gotten way more casual since I’m not wearing my office clothing anymore. Which is honestly kinda sad because my office wardrobe is Ms Frizzle lite, and my casual wardrobe is all my old nerdy tees. But I’ll get back to it eventually, or if we’re permanently switching to work from home, I’ll eventually cave and start buying cuter comfy clothes
one of the best meals you’ve had this year?
Any time I’ve caved and ordered a meal instead of making it has made me terribly emotional, so really any takeout meal. Listen, the one thing I really spent my money on was going out to lunch and trying new things. Going from that to making sandwiches at home or eating some combination of an egg and a carb for most meals was more of an emotional blow then I expected.
who has made the biggest impact in your life this year?
The fuckin’ US government, and not in a good way.
what’s one thing that you hope will continue next year?
I do hope that people normalize wearing masks in public when you’re sick, and limiting the number of people in a location instead of jam packing it full. Also I hope that virtual hangouts continue so I can see my friends who live far away more often.

“Dude, you can’t fight today.” TJ was annoying him. Everyone and everything was annoying him. His heavy set friend had his own bruises marring his dark skin. TJ was that one black guy for whom the mandatory brown marker in a Yaycrola set actually matched his skin tone. Once upon a time, that had made Vanderwood laugh. Now he just snorted softly. “You’ve got a boxer’s fracture you gotta heal up, and I know for a fact you already paid rent, so what are you even doing here today?”
Vanderwood looked around the warehouse full of people and shrugged. What was he even doing here? It seemed like he went here on impulse more than anything. Whenever he thought about Caleb or ran into his dad, he just kind of…showed up here. Really, he didn’t feel much of anything. He hadn’t watched TV for what seemed like years and this was the only thing he did other than sit at home and stare at his wall, wanting to put his fist through the drywall. “Guess I’ll just go then.”
TJ started to say something else, but Vanderwood was gone. His muscles felt so tight it was almost like his entire body was squeezing him. He just started running, nowhere in particular, needing to do something, and found himself at a bar. It wasn’t so crazy to be entering a bar right now, it was getting towards evening. Not that it really would have made much of a difference to Vanderwood at this point. He was thinking that maybe if he got blackout drunk, he wouldn’t have to think about anything else.
How long had it been since Caleb had died? Vanderwood honestly couldn’t remember. He did remember that he’d since turned twenty…which meant really he wasn’t supposed to be at the bar, but the bartender didn’t card him. That was one thing Vanderwood had going for him. He looked like he was in his mid-twenties at the least. The bartender asked him what he wanted, but Vanderwood just shrugged, so he ended up with a large glass and a bottle of hard liquor next to him. This bartender was pretty damn observant.
Vanderwood threw back a glass and wiped his mouth when he felt more than saw someone sit next to him. He turned his head just slightly, looking over the newcomer from his periphery. She wasn’t bad looking, her black hair was pulled up into a high ponytail, with her shirt cut low, the sleeves low too to expose her shoulders, collarbone, and cleavage. The girl had some sizable breasts and he had to admit her ass looked good in those skinny jeans.
Generally, Vanderwood ignored women. He’d always ignored women. There just wasn’t anything in particular he found interesting about them. It wasn’t that he was gay. His magazines had just always been enough to satisfy his curiosity as a teenager, since actually being around other people was something he never really enjoyed. Plenty of girls and women had hit on him before, and he’d considered taking some up on their offer as a teen, just to find out what all the hubbub was about, but had eventually decided against it since he didn’t want anyone to get too close to him. This girl though…He was pretty sure she wasn’t interested in him on a personal level, and his suspicions were quickly confirmed.
“You look like a guy who needs a good time.” Her voice was low, drawn out, deep brown eyes looking up to meet his as she leaned her arm against the bar top, further giving him a view of her cleavage. “I don’t come cheap, but I think you really need it.” Vanderwood snorted softly, biting his tongue as he thought it over. A hooker. There would be no attachment, he didn’t have anything else to do, and…his eyes caught sight of his right hand and the white lines of crisscrossing scars. His heart clenched painfully, the guilt, pain, and anger rising hard again. He needed a distraction.
Vanderwood pulled out his wallet nonchalantly. He’d been winning a lot of fights lately and had plenty of money to use. It wasn’t being used for anything else anyway. “Good news for you, I don’t need cheap. How much and where?” He wasn’t entirely sure on how you talked to a hooker, but his detached demeanor seemed to be working just fine for her. “I use the room upstairs. $250 an hour.” After flashing her the money, he put it back in his pocket. “I’ll pay you once I meet you up there.” A smirk grew on the hooker’s face. This one was a smart cookie, he wouldn’t pay until he got the goods. She nodded and took off, Vanderwood following her with his eyes to see where she took the stairs up.
He pushed away from the bar and headed towards the bathroom. If he was going to do this, he at least wasn’t going to be stupid about it. There was no way he was catching something and he sure as Hell wasn’t looking towards getting anyone pregnant. Vanderwood got a condom from the bathroom dispenser. It was a little strange, he thought, as he went up the stairs, finding the room the hooker was in pretty quickly. Normally, people would lose their virginity as a fumbling teenager in the back of their parents’ car, but he wasn’t exactly normal anyway. Vanderwood wasn’t sure what to expect, really. If he was being honest, he was expecting to feel virtually nothing. Since Caleb, magazines and TV weren’t something he even bothered to look at, but like he’d thought earlier, I’ve got nothing better to do.
“So how do you like it, handsome? Want help getting undressed?” Vanderwood stiffened up, the idea of someone else touching him was not one he was interested in. At the moment, even her voice was annoying him. “How about this. You don’t touch me, you don’t talk to me, and I do what I want?” That seemed more reasonable to him. If the woman was really about her money, it wouldn’t make a difference to her anyway, and he was right, she just nodded and sat on the bed, watching him through her lashes.
His eyes had searched the room briefly, noting a clock stating it was 5 o’clock. Vanderwood closed the door with his foot and pulled off his shirt before moving over towards her. He’d kissed a girl in 8th grade, well really, had been kissed by a girl in 8th grade, and it hadn’t been so bad, but now he just took this woman’s chin and kissed her hard. It was unfeeling, it was rough, and for him, it felt damn great. His hand found her ponytail and wrapped her hair around his fingers, yanking a little, maybe harder than was polite, but the hooker was quiet other than a soft little sound that just made him feel even better. It had sounded pretty genuine, wasn’t faked for his amusement.

His eyes found the clock he’d noticed when he’d entered the room. 6:30…He’d been in there for an hour and a half. “I’m assuming half an hour is $125.” Vanderwood took out $375 and placed it on a dresser near the door as the hooker spoke up, her voice sounding surprisingly rawer than it had when she’d first talked to him. “Don’t worry about the half hour, hot stuff.” Vanderwood raised an eyebrow at her.
That had made him uncomfortable. “I’m a customer like anybody else. Your $375 is on the dresser.” With that, he walked out, surprised that he didn’t feel that little angry beast in his chest right now. Maybe he should do this more often. The hooker called out to him before he closed the door. “Come back to me anytime; a man has his needs.” He wouldn’t be coming back to her, but she was right. Vanderwood did have needs and now he knew how to take care of them.
As he paid for his drink with the bartender, who didn’t mention the hooker making Vanderwood think she had some sort of agreement with him, he noticed a woman at the end of the bar eying him. He smirked a little at the way her eyes traveled over his body, and felt a little twitch as he did the same to her. Another hour of what he’d just had didn’t sound so bad to him. Vanderwood walked over to the woman, seeing her jump just a little before her eyes went back to their sultry look. She wasn’t bad looking, and seemed like she was thinking the same thing.
“Feel like coming home with me?” The idea of having sex again so quickly after the first, he’d heard only a few could do it and that it hurt, but he could feel he was fully ready to go and wouldn’t mind the extra rush of euphoria. “Let’s go.” He pointed his jaw towards the door and the girl jumped up, following along eagerly. Yeah. He had needs.
