Y/N's eyes darted between Angela and Y/N's dad for the past ten minutes as they argued over where the centerpieces should go and for some reason, Y/N felt like this was something she’d flipped about. Yet, here they were flipping out about the position of the centerpiece.
“What do you think?” Angela finally asked y/n, her hands on her hips and a stern look on her face.
“Does it matter?” She asked.
Y/N could see the switch flip in Angela’s eyes, Tim couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle before placing a soft hand on Angela’s shoulder, “Just put them how you want, Angela, we have more important things to worry about,” he had waved the white flag.
Angela nodded, “you’re right,” she began, her eyes landing on y/n, “We still need you to shower, get dressed, and do your hair and makeup. All in under,” she looked at her watch, eyes widened as she realized the time. “Two hours!” She exclaimed.
Y/N let out a sigh, “Alright, let’s go.” She followed Angela out of the banquet hall.
Suppose y/n had asked her ten-year-old, scared self that in a few years, she’d be surrounded by people who loved her like they shared the same blood, with no conditions attached. That she’d be getting ready for her quince and that she was happy. Her younger self would have called her crazy, mostly because, at the time, she didn’t see any hope. Yet, here she was, looking at herself in the mirror as she wore her quince dress, hair styled in a half-up and half-down with curls, and the makeup wasn’t over the top but complimented her face.
“What do you think?” Angela asked, grinning from ear to ear as she looked at her in the mirror.
“I love it,” y/n smiled, tears beginning to form in her eyes.
“Oh no,” Angela quickly grabbed a tissue and helped y/n wipe away the tears before it ruined her makeup, “What’s wrong? Is there something you don’t like?”
y/n couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle, “No, it’s not that,” she glanced back at herself in the mirror. “I just never thought I’d be this lucky.”
Angela smiled, she opened her mouth to say something but quickly turned at the sound of a knock at the door. “Can I come in?” Tim asked from the other side of the door.
Angela rolled her eyes, “Come in.” Tim entered the room, “you’re supposed to be keeping an eye on everything,” Angela scowled.
Tim held his hands up, “In my defense, Lucy said she had it handled and rushed me to come get dressed.”
Angela sighed, “Alright, well I guess I should get ready, you don’t mind if I use the bathroom to change?”
Tim shook his head, “by all means, go ahead.” Angela walked out of the room. Y/n couldn’t help but continue to stare at herself in the mirror, “You look beautiful, sweetie.”
“You think so?”
Tim nods, “And I’m not just saying that because I’m your dad and I have to.” He walked over and planted a kiss on top of her head, “Our ride will be here an hour, so why don’t you help Angela get ready.”
“On it,” y/n smiled and walked out of the room.
Within the hour, everyone had gotten ready and it was time to head back to the banquet hall. It wasn’t long until y/n was back at the banquet hall, making an entrance to her guests clapping. It all felt surreal and she didn’t want it to end.
She danced with her friends as planned, and then surprised her guests with a surprise dance. By the time it was all over, she was exhausted, but when she heard the music slowly die down she was quick to catch on to what was going on.
“If I could have everyone’s attention,” Tim began, as he waited a few seconds for everyone to quiet down. “I would just like to thank you all for coming out tonight, it means a lot to us. I also have a small speech prepared, I’m not accustomed to how quince’s go, but I’ve been told that I need to make a speech.” Tim scanned the crowd, his eyes landing on y/n, he smiled, “As many as you know, Y/N is adopted, but that doesn’t mean I love her any less, if anything it means I love her more. I think I knew from the day I met her, that there was something special in her and that I wasn’t just supposed to save her that day…” Tim could recall that moment when he knew that somehow you were destined to be a part of his life and somehow you were brought into his life to save him from his pain.
~~ Then ~~
Tim cursed under his breath when he told himself it was a quiet shift because only a second later he got a call about a possible double homicide with a little girl who had called 9-1-1. He knew that whatever this little girl saw, it would stay with her the rest of her life and this wasn’t the first time he had answered calls like these. Yet, something about this one felt different.
He was the first one on the scene when he arrived at the house, he took out his gun and slowly approached the house, the front door was already open. Slowly, Tim made his way through the house, checking every room as he walked through. He stopped when he walked into the master bedroom, seeing the bodies of a woman and a man on the floor. He walked over and checked for a pulse.
“Dispatch, this is Officer Bradford, we got two DBs on the scene,” Tim said into his walkie. Tim could hear the distant sounds of sirens approaching, backup had arrived.
A sound of ruffling came from behind him, he quickly turned around to face a closet door. Tim raised his gun as he slowly approached the door, “this is LAPD, come out of the closet,” Tim stated, and he was met with silence. He opened the door slowly, his eyes widened when his eyes landed on a little girl. He lowered his gun and bent down, “Hey, it’s okay.” He tried his best to sound as soft as possible, but she inched backward until she hit the wall. He noticed her eyes darted behind him, his heart raced as he turned around but no one was there. His eyes landed back down at the bodies on the floor. He blocked her view with his body.
“Do you want to play a game?” Tim asked, y/n looked up at him and gave him a small nod.
“Alright, the rules are you have to close your eyes okay? Can you do that for me?” Tim asked. Y/n gave him a nod and closed her eyes. Tim got up, picking you up in the process. He was surprised at how light she was, given her age. He took her outside where other officers and paramedics began to arrive, one of the paramedics walked over to the two of them.
“She doesn’t seem to be injured but I would like to get her checked out, just in case,” Tim began.
The paramedic nodded as he reached out for her, but she quickly sunk more into Tim’s arms. The paramedic glanced at Tim, “looks like you got a puppy,” he commented, “mind carrying her to the rig?”
Tim let out a small sigh before following the paramedic to the rig, he held her in his arms as he sat in the back of the rig while the paramedic did his thing. She clung to his side the whole time, and for some reason, Tim was okay with it. Yes, it happened from time to time and sometimes Tim wished he was never put in that situation but this time, he felt this was where he was needed.
~~ NOW~~
“Little did I know that I was to gain a daughter that day and I am proud of the young lady she is becoming,” Tim glanced over to where y/n was, a prideful smile on his face, “Happy birthday, sweetie.”  There was more that Tim wanted to say, stuff that made him feel uncomfortable in front of a room full of friends and family. He wasn’t uncomfortable because he didn’t want to say it, it was more because he never showed that side of him to those who barely knew him.
What he wanted to say would have to wait.
The party quickly resumed with everyone back on the dance floor and having the time of their lives. It wasn’t long before the night slowly began to die down, people began to go home and soon enough it was only a few people left. Y/N could feel the drowsiness hitting her eyes as she sat at one of the tables, she was thankful that she chose to get a second dress for the end of the night. Y/N was done with your quince dress an hour after she put it on and somehow Angela knew y/n would need a second dress.
“Tired?” Tim asked as he sat down on the chair next to y/n. She slowly nodded, laying her head on the table.
“Why don’t the two of you go home, I have people coming by in the morning to clean up,” Angela commented as she walked over to the table.
Tim nodded, gesturing for y/n to get up, “Thank you, again, Angela.”
“Hey, you helped me plan my wedding, the least I can do is help you plan your daughter’s quince, especially since you have no experience in this criteria.”
“Well, I appreciate it,” Tim hugged Angela, letting go to grab some of y/n’s things.
Y/N got up from the table and hugged Angela, “Thank you, Angela. You made my quince the highlight of the school year.” Angela smiled and placed a small kiss on Y/n’s forehead.
“Make sure to mention me in your popularity speech,” she winks.
“You’ll be the first one I thank,” y/n joked. She followed Tim out of the banquet hall.
“How are you feeling?” Tim asked as the both of them got in the truck.
“Sleep deprived.”
Tim grunted, “What?”
“Well, we have a birthday tradition we haven’t done this year.” She gave him a confused look, “Our hot chocolate at midnight,” he said in a surprised tone.
She let out a small chuckle, it was a tradition she had unknowingly started on her first birthday with her dad, “I completely forgot about that.”
“How could you forget? It’s a sacred tradition and we are about an hour late.”
She playfully rolled her eyes, “It slipped my mind with all the quince craziness.”
“You’re forgiven,” he smiled, starting the truck to head home. It wasn’t long before she was asleep, being tired and going on a car drive was not a good combo for her. It felt like seconds after she had closed her eyes, she was being woken up, only to realize that she had been asleep for twenty minutes.
“Come on, let’s get you to bed,” Tim suggested as he grabbed some of her things from the back seat.
She followed him inside the house, “I’m still down for that hot chocolate,” she commented.
“You sure?”
“It’s a tradition,” she smiled, “I’m just gonna take off all this makeup, give me five minutes.”
Your dad watched as you walked into your room, you were too stubborn for your own good and somehow he felt like he was to blame for that.
Tim went into the kitchen to make the two of you hot chocolate, he was adding marshmallows when everything went dark. “Crap,” he muttered to himself. “Damn outages,” he jumped into action, rushing over to the drawer where he kept his emergency kit, including his flashlight.
“Y/N, I’ll bring over some candles!” He yelled out. He waited for your response but he did not receive any, he was trying not to panic, maybe you were so busy taking off your makeup still that you didn’t get the chance to respond. But given the last time the power had gone off, he was expecting a response. Yes, it was the summer and there had been outages but it had mostly happened during the day.
Kojo began to whine and ran over to your door, beginning to scratch at the door. Something was wrong, Tim didn’t hesitate to run over to your door, “Y/N?” He called out. He waited another few seconds for you to respond. When you didn’t it was like all the alarms inside Tim’s head went off, “Y/N?!” He yelled. Again, no response.
He couldn’t wait any longer, he opened the door to find an empty dark room, he ran over to your bathroom and it was empty. He felt his heart drop, and he ran out into the hallway, “Y/N!?” he screamed. He went to every single room in the house, any place he thought you would hide, but why would you hide? To play a game of hide and seek? He didn’t know, he wished that was what was happening, He hoped. He stood in the middle of the living room, his breathing was erratic as he realized that you were gone. You were gone and it was while he was home, where he could protect you. Regardless of what happened, Tim felt responsible for everything.
His hands shook as he dialed 9-1-1, when he heard the voice on the other line, he couldn’t say the words. Maybe because saying it would mean it was reality, it wasn’t some nightmare he could just wake up from.
“Hello? 9-1-1, what’s your emergency?” The lady asked again.
Tim felt tears forming in his eyes, “My-my daughter is missing,” he choked out a sob before giving the dispatch his address.
“Sir, I need you to remain calm, can you tell me your daughter’s name and age?”
He let out a shaky breath, “Y/N,” he felt another sob making its way up his throat, part of him wanted to throw up. He didn’t know why he felt like throwing up, but the feeling was making its way up. “She just turned fifteen,” He managed to say.
“Do you know where she was taken from?”
Yes, he did. She was taken while I was present, he thought. “Our home,” He held back his sob.
“Can you describe what happened? What was she wearing?”
He needed Lucy. He needed someone to take over for him, he couldn’t do this. All he wanted to do was to run out into the streets and find her himself, but he knew he wouldn’t hold back if he did. He would tear whoever took her limb by limb, he wouldn’t show any mercy.
“Sir? Are there any open windows in her bedroom?”
It was like everything he learned in the academy, everything he had done on the job flew out the window the second he realized she wasn’t in her room.
He walked into the bedroom once more, “There is,” he said as he stared at the open window, “she doesn’t open her window, her screen ripped a while back.”
“Can you describe what happened before you realized she was missing?”
“I-I was making us hot chocolate and then the power went out.”
The dispatcher kept Tim on the phone until officers arrived, it didn’t take long for word to get to Sergeant Grey and somehow he arrived seconds after the first officer.
Sergeant Grey took matters into his own hands, calling up Angela and Lucy to the scene, one because Grey knew he needed the best detective on this case and the second because Tim needed the support right now.
“I need you to walk me through this Tim,” Angela said softly as she sat beside Tim on the couch.
He clasped his hands together, hoping it would stop the shaking, he was shaking so much. No matter what he tried it just wouldn’t stop. “I went into the kitchen to make us some hot chocolate and the power went out. I called out for Y/N and got no response, I gave it a second because I know sometimes it’s hard for her to respond when she’s taking off her makeup.”
Angela couldn’t help but smile at how much Tim had become a girl-dad within the past few years. He knew everything about his daughter and the habits she had. If she were on her time of the month, he was quick to get her the things she needed without being a guy about it. There were even times when Y/N’s period got so bad, that he allowed her to stay home from school. In Angela’s eyes, he was the ultimate girl-dad and she knew how lucky Y/N was to have him as one.
“I then walked over to her bedroom and called for her again and when she didn’t respond a second time I knew something was wrong. The third time I called out for her, I didn’t wait to go in the bedroom, that’s when I realized she-She was missing,” he choked out the last part, Lucy rubbed small circles on his back. She was trying her best to be his support system in his time of need.
Angela remembered noticing most of the neighborhood was out of power when she drove up, it could have been a planned thing or just a coincidence, “didn’t you just upgrade your alarm system? Especially the cameras?”
Tim instantly knew what Angela was trying to bring up, he quickly brought out his phone and pulled up the app. “Usually after an outage, the cameras remain on for ten minutes,” he commented, rewinding the footage to when they had arrived from the quince.
“There!” Angela pointed out, “That car pulls up a few houses down the same time you guys pull in.” They kept their eyes on the car as they watched the footage. They saw as the power went out and they saw the bushes on the side of the houses moving and then the car driving off in a hurry.
“It’s too dark to see anything,” Tim felt defeated. At this point, he knew that he wasn’t getting y/n back tonight, she wasn’t safe.
“Send me that footage, I’ll have my guys work on it. We’re not stopping until she’s home and she’s safe. For now, you should stay at Lucy’s,” Angela stated.
He shook his head, “We need to get out there, I need to be doing something to find her. Let me help.”
Angela shook her head, getting up from the couch, “Trust me on this, Tim. I know you want to be there, you want to go out and find her but you can’t. You need to trust me, I will find y/n and when I do, I’ll hold those who took her accountable.”
Tim opened his mouth to protest, “She’s right, Tim,” Lucy added. “The best we can do is be on the sidelines.”
Tim felt angry at them for, in football terms, benching him, when he felt like he should be out there with Angela trying to find his daughter. “When you were taken, we all looked for you, including Wesley. So don’t bench me. Don’t tell me to just stay home and not do anything, not after she has been kidnapped right under my fucking nose.”
Angela looked over at Lucy with a knowing look, “All alright, but you’ll be taking orders from me, what I say goes. I can’t afford to lose any of you if anything goes sideways.”
“Okay,” Tim said.
“I need you to promise me that when I tell you something you will listen,” Angela stated. Tim hesitated, he wanted to promise her, but also, he felt like there could be many situations where defying her orders could save you. But he needed to trust Angela. “Promise me, Bradford!”
“I promise.”
She let out a deep sigh, “Alright, let’s get to the station, we have a lot of work to do and my guys need to do a sweep of the house to see if they can find anything.”
The team spent the rest of the night at the station, they were trying to make a connection to the previous break-in, hoping that they could find something that could trace them back to y/n’s whereabouts. But with everything that they searched through, they had no luck.
Tim and Lucy sat in the conference room where they had a board up with potential suspects on the kidnapping, people who lived nearby and were on the offenders list. It was all dead ends. Angela had left to retrieve documents on Y/N’s adoption, mostly about who her biological parents were.
“Fuck!” Tim yelled as he threw papers across the conference room.
Lucy looked at him with concern on her face, “Tim, we’ll-”
“Don’t,” he snapped, “this is all my fault.” Tears formed in his eyes as he sat down on one of the chairs. A shaky sob escaped his lips, “I can’t lose her, Lucy. I can’t. I don’t know how to live in a world where she isn’t my daughter. I know we joke about having kids, but I only have one of her. Nothing will replace her and I never want to replace her.”
Lucy sat beside him, “I know,” she softly said.
“I can’t lose her. I don’t think I would be able to handle it.”
This was a side of Tim that Lucy was beginning to see more and more now that they were in a relationship. It was a side of Tim that she wished more people knew about, but she understood why they didn’t. Yes, he had this mentality that if he showed this side of himself to just anyone then there would be no room for people to take him seriously.
But here he was, showing this side of himself in the middle of the conference room, where the walls were made of glass, making them the attractions in a zoo. Anyone could see, but they were in their little bubble for the moment. What happened beyond those glass walls didn’t matter, who saw them, didn’t matter. What mattered was that she was there for him in his need.
“You know when I first met you, I never would have imagined you had a kid, let alone had adopted her. But then I saw her and the way you were with her and I could just tell, she was your kid. If you hadn’t told me that you had adopted her, I would have never guessed it.” Lucy’s fingers brushed his chin, pulling his face to look at her, “I know you will search every inch of this city to find her, but remember that you have a team behind you that is searching with you. We will find her, Tim.”
Tim felt tears falling from his eyes, “it’s all my fault, Lucy. I was supposed to keep her safe.”
She shook her head, “It’s not your fault, Tim. You did everything right you kept her as safe as you could.”
Angela walked into the conference room with a beaming smile, “I found something.”
Tim quickly got up from his seat, “what?”
“I had to do some bribing, but I got y/n’s adoption records uncovered and her biological parents aren’t who they said they were.”
“What?” Tim asked in disbelief.
“Her father was one of the sons of one of the biggest drug lords in Mexico, apparently he came to the U.S. to start a fresh new life with his wife and newborn daughter,” Angela hands Tim a photo of y/n’s biological parents when she was just a newborn. For some reason, Tim felt speechless as he looked at the photo in front of him. He wondered what his daughter was like at that age, the thought of it, made his heart ache. He hated that he missed out on so much, it was something that given their situation was bound to happen, but he felt grateful that he was given the chance to be her father now.
“She was a cute baby,” Angela commented as she watched how Tim was so focused on the photo in front of him, he probably didn’t even hear a word she had said a second ago.
“She was,” Tim smiled before putting his focus back on Angela, “you were saying?”
She couldn’t help but let out a dry chuckle, “As I was saying before you got into a trance, it looks like Gael and Luna, Y/n’s biological parents were killed by one of another drug lord's men. Hearing this news caused his father to have a heart attack and he almost literally died from a broken heart causing the younger brother of Gael, Deigo, to take over daddy's company.”
“You didn’t know any of this?” Lucy asked.
Tim shook his head, “All I was told was that it was a robbery gone wrong, obviously someone wanted to cover this up.”
“And I have a lucky guess on who that was,” Angela said as she put up a picture of a man who looked similar to Diego, standing next to another man. “The man on the right is Diego Garcia, Gael’s brother and now rightful leader of one of Mexico’s biggest mafia, and the other guy Jesse Ortega, A.K.A. El Patron, One of Mexico’s biggest drug cartels.”
“So, what are we thinking? That Jesse has y/n?”
Angela shook her head, “I have more, the way y/n’s biological parents were murdered is similar to how y/n was almost kidnapped and then kidnapped. They also caused a power outage before entering the home, now the question is-”
“Why in the hell would they want y/n?” Tim interrupted.
Angela shrugged, “leverage? All I know is that we need to find someone who has a connection with Diego and we need to find it fast. We know what these people are capable of.” She looked down, regretting her words as soon as she had said them, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that.”
“No, we have to face the reality,” Tim uttered, “there is a chance…” he stopped, he couldn’t believe that he was going even to say it, “a chance that she may come back.”
“We’re not going to let that happen,” Lucy said.
Tim gave Lucy a hopeful smile, she was optimistic even when those surrounding her weren’t. She was optimistic in an annoying way that if she had ever stopped, he would miss it.
~~
It had been what felt like a week since y/n had seen the sun since she remembered what it felt like to feel the comfort of her bed. She had been tied up on a chair since she’d been kidnapped, only allowed to get up to go to the bathroom or to stretch for ten minutes. Her captors were human enough to allow her just that. The only way she knows what time it is is by the sound of birds chirping outside, she knows it is morning by the sound of the mourning dove and when it is night by the sound of the crickets and frogs.
She knows she has to be near water because of the frogs and because of how some of the men complained about the mosquitos. This is how she spent her time, studying.
She has studied her captor's moves and the daily routines they did to make the time go by. She’d be lying to herself if she said she wasn’t at all scared because every minute that passed by her fear worsened. One thing in particular was that they hadn’t given her much attention. They gave her a small bottle of water that she was supposed to make last for the day, and a small meal a day which always looked like leftovers of the meal they chose not to eat.
Y/N jumped in her chair to the sound of a door slamming, she could hear footsteps escalating towards her, and her eyes widened as the door to the room she was in swung open. One of the guards that sat in the room was quick to react letting out a relieved sigh when he realized who it was.
“Dude, why do you have to come in like that? You almost gave me a heart attack,” The guard commented as he took a seat once again.
“We have to get out of here,” the guy that entered the room says.
“What?”
“Our location could be blown, it’s been a week since we’ve heard the word,” the guy makes his way towards y/n, tugging at her arm, a gesture for her to get up.
Y/n groans in pain, her legs sore from being in a position for so long, “What about-”
“He’ll know where to find us, plus, at this point, I feel like he’s just taking his sweet ass time to come and get his prize.” The man led her out of the room.
“Wait!” The guard said as he reached for the blindfold in his back pocket, tying the piece of fabric around her eyes. “Alright, now let’s go.”
Y/n felt herself being led down a dirt path, and then being pushed into the trunk of a car. Then it was silent for a moment before she heard the roar of the engine and they were moving. This was her moment, she slowly began to loosen the rope tied around her wrists, she had been slowly working on it when her captors weren’t in the room. She had almost had it this morning before she was interrupted. The relief came instantly, as she brought her arms in front of her to bring down the blindfold. To her surprise, the trunk felt like being in an abyss, she was surrounded by darkness. Her hands searched above her, she knew there had to be a latch of some sort to open this trunk. Unless her captors were smart enough to remove it.
She was beginning to give up, feeling tears beginning to form in her eyes. “Please,” she begged to any god that existed and was listening. All she wanted to do was go home, she wanted to feel safe in her dad's arms; Wondering why he hadn’t found her yet, but she knew that he would. Any moment he will be here to rescue her.
Maybe that’s why they had to move locations.
Her hands continued to trace the fabric above her, she let out a small gasp as her fingers touched something that wasn’t fabric. She took in a deep breath and pulled on the piece of plastic and in an instant the trunk opened. Y/n jumped out of the trunk with no hesitation, she yelped as she hit the ground and rolled on the pavement.
Y/N let out a pain-stricken yell as she slowly got up to her feet, she heard tires screeching to a halt.
“Fuck,” she said, turning around to see the car she had just jumped out of coming to a complete stop. Y/n only had a few seconds to take in her surroundings, it was dark and there was nothing but trees from what her eyes could see.
She heard the engine beginning to come closer, it was now or never, she ran towards the trees. The sound of a car door closing caused her to use all her energy to run faster, but she could feel it quickly draining. Maybe this is why they fed her so little, to keep her from having the energy to run.
The lack of food and water was getting to her, but she knew she couldn’t give up, she needed to find safety.
The crash came quickly, one minute she was alert and running and the next she was on the ground. She was quick to come to, she let out a sob as she attempted to get back up.
“Not so fast,” One of the men says as he grabs her arm, “Nice try.” He picks her up from the ground, holding a tight grip on her arm. “I got her!” he yells out.
Footsteps could be heard coming closer to where they were, “Fucking bitch,” the other guy, who happens to be the guard, says. He swings his arm back, his fist meeting Y/n’s mouth causing her to lose her balance. She lets out a small sob, “Let’s get back to the car, Hugo.”
Finally, a name. Hugo helped y/n back to her feet, “You know he’s not gonna like that you did that,” he commented. “You know how he is about his things.”
The guard shrugged, “it’ll just be a slap on the wrist.”
~~
Time was slipping by like a thin thread that was hard to see and hard to get a hold of. Tim felt like he was frozen, watching as his friends and family came by the house day by day to check up on him. Lucy came every day to walk Kojo because if she didn’t know any better, she would have sworn he never left his spot on the couch. It had been weeks since their last breakthrough, the day after Y/N was kidnapped, and since then every lead they have had led them to a dead end. At some point, Tim was beginning to lose it, he felt anger residing within him.
Anger towards himself and to y/n’s captors. He had anger. After all, he was confused and angry because he couldn’t crack the case. He felt like he should be able to find her within a second, but when he was left with nothing but crumbs that once served as hope, he slowly fell into his pit of despair.
Angela didn’t give up, she knew there was something within the lines that she must have overlooked. She wasn’t going to let the guilt win her, not when it had won over Tim. She knew there had to be one still searching through the crumbs that were left of this disaster.
“We’re going to find her, Tim,” Angela said, walking around the coffee table to come face-to-face with her best friend. “Do you hear me?”
Tim continued to stare into the blank space that was the TV. his eyes never leaving his reflection.
“Tim, you can’t give up. You need to be strong for y/n because when we find her she’s going to need you more than ever,” Angela began to say. “She’s going to need her dad to bring her back to life, we have no idea what kind of hell she is going through righ-”
“How do we even know she’s still alive?” Tim finally spoke up, breaking his eye contact with his reflection to look at Angela.
Angela could see the fear in his eyes, the hope and desperation that still lay within them but was withering out, “How could you think that?”
Tim turned away, blinking his tears away, “You and I both know the chances of survival of someone being kidnapped, especially those who are gone for weeks.”
“You can’t think that way, you need to think like a cop-”
“I’m thinking like a father, Angela!” Tim yelled. “My daughter could probably be dead in some ditch and I have to prepare myself for that possibility. I have to prepare myself for the possibility that she-” Tim let out a cry, “she might not come home,” he sobbed.
“And I don’t know how to live with it. I don’t want to live in a world where she isn’t in it,” Tim cried. “She brought me so much happiness when I couldn’t find any and now she’s gone and I couldn’t stop it,” Tim looked at Angela with glass eyes, “I was supposed to protect her, so what kind of father does that make me?”
Angela pulled Tim in for a hug, “you can’t always protect them, Tim. We all know that you can’t blame yourself for something that was out of your control.” Angela released the hug, holding Tim’s head in her hands, “I need you to pull yourself together, not for me or Lucy, but for Y/N. She needs you.”
Tim knew Angela was right, he had to pull himself together. He gave her a small nod, as he got up from his spot on the couch and walked to the hallway, “Where are you going?”
“To shower, I doubt you want me finding my daughter when I stink like dirty laundry,” he shouted out.
Angela rolled her eyes, grabbing her phone from her pocket.
I somehow got him to shower
She had sent a text to Lucy, who decided to stay back at the station to give the paperwork a second look. Lucy had felt like all her attempts on trying to get Tim off the couch had failed, all she had received from him were grunts or blank stares. She never took it personally, but knowing it didn’t take Angela long, made her heartache.
They’ve been best friends for a while, she thought to herself. She shook her mind off of it before looking back at the paperwork.
Before she could continue what she was reading, she was interrupted by a knock at the door. She turned to see an unfamiliar face smiling back at her, “Hi, I’m looking for a Tim Bradford.”
Lucy found it strange to see civilians inside the station at such a late hour, but maybe he wasn’t a civilian. “Um, h-he’s not here at the moment, but can I help you?” Something about this man looked familiar to her, she just couldn’t figure it out.
“I must speak to Mr. Bradford,” the man said as he glanced outside the door. Lucy quickly caught on to the men guarding the door. She glanced back down at the photos in front of her before turning back to look at the man at the door.
“D-Diego,” Lucy mumbled as she got up from her seat.
The man sighed, “I’m not here to hurt you, I’m here to help,” he held up his hands. “You can search me and my men, you might find a gun on them, but they know not to do anything stupid, especially inside a police station.”
“How did you get in here?”
“It’s fairly easy when you spend your whole life doing these kinds of things,” he smiles before pointing to a chair near Lucy. “May I sit?”
Lucy nods, “Why are you here?”
“Like I said I want to help, now how long before Mr. Bradford gets here?” Diego looks at his watch before glancing at Lucy.
~~
“Lucy?” Tim yelled out as he walked into their apartment, he was worried sick after she stopped answering his calls when she had texted Angela to meet at her apartment.
“Why the hell would she want us to meet here?” Angela asked as she closed the door behind them.
“Oh good,” Lucy said as she came out from her bedroom, “I know you guys have a lot of quest-”
“Why did you stop answering my calls?” Tim asked as he pulled Lucy in for a hug.
“I’m sorry, I just got caught up on-” Lucy realizes mid-sentence that Tim has a tighter grip on her, “I-I’m sorry, Tim.” For a moment, she let it slip that maybe not answering her phone caused panic to surge through Tim’s body. She could only imagine what he could have been thinking on the drive over, the worry he must have felt.
“ ‘s alright,” Tim says as he lets go of the embrace.
“Now can I have an explanation as to why all of our documents are in your apartment and not at the station, and how the hell did you get this big ass board here in thirty minutes?” Angela asks.
“I had some help,” Lucy began to say.
“Lucy, I can not thank you enough fo-” Diego stops mid-sentence, a smile forming on his face, “Mr. Bradford, it is so nice to finally meet you.”
“Diego Garcia,” Angela quickly drew out her gun.
Diego held his hands up, “I come in peace and empty-handed, Detective Lopez.” Angela gave a knowing glance towards Tim, “Yes, you can even search me, even though Lucy here already has.”
“Twice,” Lucy added.
“But if it makes you feel better, I’ll allow a third pat down,” Diego smiles.
Angela holsters her gun, “I’ll trust Lucy’s word,” she says, “now explain.”
“Well, after you left, Diego showed up and at first he would not tell me anything unless Tim was there, but I managed to get him to tell me some of what he had to say and given the situation, I felt it would be better if we met here. Away from the station, so we could all talk privately,” Lucy explained, she waited for a few seconds for someone to say something. Angela stood there, staring at Lucy like she was trying to make sense of it all. “Well?”
“I’m still trying to figure out if what you did was stupid or smart,” Angela then looks over at Diego, “and you’re awfully brave for coming into a station considering who you are.”
Diego smirks, “I am a wise man and as a wise man I know that you only have information on what others have said about me. But I am willing to risk it all if it means that my y/n is safe.”
Angela turned her head slightly at what Diego had just said, “Surprised you even care when you didn’t even take her in after her parents were brutally murdered.”
Diego took a deep breath, “I thought it would be for the best that she stayed away from this lifestyle, it’s what my brother would have wanted.” Diego noticed the photos that fell out of one of the folders, he couldn’t help himself as he began to look at them.
“Then explain why Jesse Ortega has my daughter,” Tim said, “Because for the last few weeks, nothing has been making sense to me.”
Angela saw the way he looked at those photos like they were his prized possessions, it was then that realization hit her. Nothing was making sense because it wasn’t true. “He doesn’t have to,” Angela said, suddenly understanding.
Diego looked at her, it was the look in Angela’s eyes that made it clear to him, that she knew the truth. Everything he had heard about how great of a detective Angela was, was finally coming to light. He gave her a nod to continue.
“I so happened to stumble upon a photo the press took of you and a woman,” Angela took out her phone, sliding through some photos before she landed on the one she needed. She held up the phone, “A woman who looks similar to Y/N, if I didn’t know any better, I would have thought this was her mother, but from records, it shows that Isabella, Gael’s wife, is y/n’s mother. Not Camilla, your wife who so happened to pass away around the same time y/n was born.” She received a confused expression from Tim, “You see, The only reason why Jesse would want anything to do with y/n is because she isn’t Gael’s daughter but Diegos,” Angela explained. “But it doesn’t explain why Gael took her here to America to start a new life.”
Diego sighed, “My wife, may God rest her soul, she passed when y/n was born and I already was worried about raising a child in such a lifestyle, but leaving was harder than it looked. My brother and his wife had wanted to leave for a while, so, I told them to take y/n and leave for the States. My father got word of this and told him he’d give him his blessing if he killed Jesse’s father,” Diego paused, recalling the day it happened like it was just yesterday. “The only person other than my father and brother who knew of y/n’s existence was my best friend, Jesse.”
“Some best friend you were,” Angela commented, “Why kill his father?”
“For the same reason, every other narco kills another. Territory. My father, although I loved him, he was greedy. He let the money get to his head and he wanted more. With territory came power, he wanted us to show him how we loved him. In a fucked up way, he only asked of this to have someone else do his dirty work for him,” Diego explained. “My brother was to kill Jesse’s father in exchange for ‘Freedom’ but look where that got him.”
“Still doesn’t explain why Jesse wants revenge from you if Gael was the one that killed his father,” Lucy commented.
“Because when it came down to it, my brother couldn’t kill him and I didn’t allow him to. We told my father what he wanted to hear and that’s that.”
“You killed Jesse’s father,” Tim understood. “That’s why he came after y/n, to hurt you in the same way you hurt him.”
Diego nodded, “I loved my daughter and I wanted a better life for her. You gave her that,” He said looking at Tim. “Which is why I am here to help you guys find her, what you do with me after that doesn’t matter. All I want is for her to be safe.”
Tim understood what he meant, the feeling of just wanting his daughter to be safe regardless of what could happen to him. He would do the same in a heartbeat if it meant he could have y/n here safe and sound.
“How can we trust you?” Angela asked.
“You can’t, but then what other option do you guys have?” Diego asked.
Tim sighed, “Do you have any leads on where they might be keeping her?” He ignored the looks he got from Angela and followed Diego over to the board that had all of their leads.
“Do you trust him?” Angela asked Lucy, they both watched Diego and Tim talk off to the side.
“If it means getting back y/n, then I do,” Lucy said.
~~
It’s been over a month. Over a month and y/n had been starved, deprived of water and sleep. She felt like she was going insane as she was held up in a small room with only a mattress on the floor.  For over the past hour, she had listened to the muffled voices outside the door, every moment that passed she had hoped to hear some sort of salvation in this pit of hell.
The door opened and the man, whom she knew by the name of Hugo, came in and hastily picked y/n up from her position on the mattress. Her heart quickened as she was led into the main room, which to her looked like an old office.
Before she could muster up the strength to say anything, she heard a voice call out from the end of the room, “She’s the spitting image of her mother,” a man scoffed as he appeared from the shadows.
Hugo places y/n on a chair, before tying her hands behind her, “W-what’s going on?”
The man who had just spoken, grabbed y/n by the chin, inspecting the bruise on her eye, “Who did this?”
“S-Sergio,” Hugo stuttered. “Ya sabes como se enoja,” (you know how he gets angry.
The man took in a deep breath, “I’ll deal with him later.” his attention focused back on y/n, “I always knew you would grow up to look just like Camilla.”
“Who’s Camilla?” Y/n asked.
“Why you’re mother of-” The man smirks, “Of course,” he said in realization, “you still think Isabella and Gael are your actual parents. We have a lot to uncover then.”
Y/n looked at him with a confused expression, was Gael and Isabella, not her parents? They had raised her, she remembered seeing photos of them with her as a baby, even as a newborn. It didn’t make any sense to her.
“You must be wondering, ‘Jesse, what do you mean?’ well, let me explain it to you,” Jesse, the man from the shadows, began to explain, “Your real father is Diego, Gael’s brother, your mother died while giving birth to you and so your father, Diego sent you with his brother to the states. Before he did that, the cowards killed my father. I took revenge when I killed Gael, but upon coming up to recent news, I found out that it wasn’t Gael who killed my father, but Diego. So, here I am out seeking revenge for my father’s death again.”
This all felt too much to unfold, the man who y/n mourned, the one she thought was her father was just her uncle. It didn’t make her feel any less of him, but it made everything… different.
“What are you going to do with me?” y/n asked.
“Have you ever been to a rage room y/n? I hear they’re pretty popular in Los Angeles?” Jesse asked as he walked over to a table that was off to the side, on the table y/n could see tools that ranged from hammers to even a drill.
her eyes widened as the fear crept up within her when she saw Jesse grabbing the hammer. “I’ve always wanted to go to one, let out all the anger I felt since my father’s death. I have let that anger live within me for far too long and I think it’s time to let it out, don’t you think?” Jesse smirked as he glanced over at y/n.
~~
Over the past week, Diego, Tim, Lucy, and Angela had spent most of their time in Lucy’s apartment. Diego calls people one after the other trying to figure out where Jesse could be holding y/n. He felt it was somewhere in Mexico, given that Jesse rarely came to the States unless something went wrong with his shipment. For the most part, it was Diego’s men who searched every lead they had in Mexico, it wasn’t until today that they finally had a breakthrough.
Diego came rushing into the apartment, “I got something!” he yelled, phone in his hand as he rushed over to Tim. Diego hesitated, “I-I don’t know if you should look, it was even hard for me to see this photo.”
Tim prepared himself for what he would see, “Show me.”
“Tim,” Angela warned with concern in her voice.
He shook his head, “No, Angela, I need to see her.”
Diego showed them the photo of y/n. In the photo, she was tied to a chair, she was bruised from head to toe, with blood covering most of her body. Tim held back a sob as he read the sign that was hung around her neck.
‘Esto es para mi papa,’ it read. (This is for my father)
“The window in the back shows the ocean. I know that view from anywhere. It’s where me and Jesse met for the first time, where our friendship began and ended,” Diego explained. “I can get you on a plane there tonight.”
“No, if this is where she is at, we have to do this the right way,” Angela began. “The LAPD-”
“The LAPD doesn’t have jurisdiction in Mexico, if anything you would have to call the feds and you know the feds wouldn’t care about a little girl that is kidnapped unless there is a big bust for them.”
Tim sighed, “he’s right.”
“So we just join him to Mexico?” Angela asks.
“We take matters into our own hands like we did to save you.”
Angela thought about it for a moment, she knew what they were doing was risky, but it was a risk Tim was willing to take to get his daughter back. A risk they made to get Angela back when she was kidnapped not too long ago too.
“Alright,” Angela said.
It wasn’t long until they were on the plane to Mexico City where Diego said the old office was. Tim and Angela mentally prepared themselves for what was about to happen, one they didn’t know if they could trust the people they were with, and second, they didn’t know what kind of condition y/n would be in.
Lucy wanted to join them but decided to stay back just in case. She was in constant communication with Tim just in case something were to happen.
“We’re almost there,” Diego announces as he comes back from the cockpit area and takes a seat on one of the chairs. “My men are ready to meet us at the landing zone, we will head straight to the building when we land,” he began to explain. “I’ll have a paramedic waiting nearby to take care of any injuries on y/n.”
“You can pull those kind of strings?” Tim asked.
“With the right kind of money, yes,” Diego smirked.
Angela scoffed, “I have a question for you,” Diego nodded for her to continue, “Why let Gael take y/n? Why not live a life outside of this business with your daughter?”
Diego sighed, placing the glass of alcohol back down on the small table in front of him, “Because my brother and his wife could give her something I never could have.”
“What’s that?” Tim asked.
“Family.”
“I disagree, I think you don’t need a mom and a dad to be a family. It’s ideal, but look at where she’s at now, no offense, Tim,” Angela said.
Diego nodded in agreement, “Alright, you caught me.” He took a swig of his drink before placing the now-empty glass back down, “The first week was the hardest,” Diego admitted. “Then as she began to grow, I just couldn’t do it. She reminded me so much of Camilla… It hurt to even look at her. Gael and Isabella couldn’t have kids and the way they always loved her as her own, I just felt like they would have given her the love I couldn’t give her.”
Tears began to form in his eyes, “and I was right. I was told Gael and Isabella died trying to protect y/n. They made sure she was hidden so she wouldn’t be” Diego choked on his words, “I don’t regret the decision I made, I just regret that I couldn’t save them.”
“Patron, Hemos aterrizado, ” (Boss, we’ve landed) One of the flight attendants said to Diego, quickly walking back over to the flight attendant station in the front of the plane.
“That’s our ten-minute mark,” Angela commented.
Tim felt his heartbeat quicken, anxious to get out of this plane and find y/n. He felt every minute that went by was a minute too long, a minute too late.
~~
Y/n cried out in pain as Jesse backed away, he shook his hand, wincing in pain.
“Ah, don’t worry, little y/n. Soon enough you won’t be feeling any more pain,” Jesse winked as he walked back over to the table. For the past week since Jesse had made an appearance, it had been constant torture for y/n. The only break she had was when Jesse left to go eat or sleep, otherwise he found entertainment in torturing her with different techniques.
“P-Please,” y/n begged.
He jammed a knife into the table, he let out an annoyed groan before grabbing a piece of cloth that was nearby. Walking over to y/n, Jesse jammed the cloth into her mouth and then tied it on the back of her head.
“That’s better,” he smiled, walking back over to the table. He grabs the knife again and walks over to y/n, “Cuando yo estaba mas joven,” Jesse began to say, “when I was about your age actually, the girls used to grab a knife and make these marks on their skin,” he traced the knife along Y/n’s wrists, “Ahh, just like these,” he says as he traces the white lines that were scattered along y/n’s wrists. Scars that told of a past of darkness that she once battled.
“Let’s have some fun,” he winked, letting the knife sink into y/n’s skin along her abdomen, she screamed into the piece of cloth that was in her mouth. Jesse let go of the knife, leaving it in her abdomen, walking back over to the table, and grabbing a large bowl of water.
Jesse walked back over to Y/n, she frantically shook her head, knowing exactly what he was thinking. He smirks as he dunks her head in the bowl, leaving it there for a minute before letting her back up for air.
Y/n tried her best to hold her breath, but with her mouth being gagged she found it more difficult than the last time. She hoped he was done for the night, that any moment he would walk out of that room.
“Can’t forget about this,” Jesse comments as he takes the knife out of y/n’s abdomen causing a rush of blood to ooze out.
The door abruptly opens, “We’ve got a problem,” Hugo says with urgency.
“Can’t you handle it?” Jesse says through gritted teeth.
Hugo shakes his head, “It’s Diego, he’s here and he has company.”
Jesse groans in frustration, walking over to the table to drop off the bowl and knife. He sees a piece of rope, it is now or never, and he grabs it.
~~
Tim followed one of Diego’s men through the building, searching room by room for y/n. He was surprised by the small amount of guards that were within the building so far, it could only mean that the main floor would have more.
Jose, the man who was taking the lead, led them to the final and top floor. Tim could hear a couple of shots before he heard people grunting, “She’s in here!” Jose yells out. Tim looked back at Angela who nodded for him to go as she walked over to one of Diego’s men who had one of Jesse’s men on the ground.
Tim quickly rushed into the room Jose had called out from, he scanned the room, seeing Jose with Jesse on the ground. Then his eyes darted to the small figure on the chair, “Y/N!” He calls out as he runs over to her, quickly untying her hands. Y/n slumps over in her seat, Tim is quick to lean her body against him, helping her onto the floor.
“Hon, it’s me,” he says, not getting a response from y/n. “Come on, baby girl, you gotta wake up for me,” the tears began to form in his eyes, he felt for a pulse, it was weak but it was there. He looks over at Jesse, “What did you do?!”
Jesse smirks, his eyes darting over to the door. Tim looks behind him to see Diego at the door, “Ojo por ojo.” (an eye for an eye)
Diego felt the anger rise within him, he felt like he was on autopilot as he pulled the gun out from his back holster, pointing it at Jesse without hesitation, he pulled the trigger.
“Now we’re even,” Diego mutters. He pulls his attention back over to Y/n and Tim, quickly noticing the pull of blood forming before them, “she’s bleeding,” he quickly takes off his coat, handing it to Tim.
Tim presses the coat on the stab wound, “we need to get her to the paramedic,” Diego says. Tim picks Y/n up, following Diego down the flight of stairs and outside to the paramedics. Tim got into the ambulance with Y/n, he held her hand throughout the whole ride.
He couldn’t help but notice the condition her body was in, the scars on her body, the bruises, and the mark that was red around her neck. If they had been a second late, she probably would’ve been gone. No, Tim couldn’t think that way. She’s safe now, she’s alive and she’s with him.
~~
Tim stayed by y/n’s side every single day at the hospital. It had been a couple of days and she had yet to wake up, the doctors said it was due to her injuries, but Tim was worried it could be something worse. Eventually, they were given the okay to transfer back to the States.
To Tim’s surprise, Diego never made an appearance at the hospital in Mexico City. He kept his promise, he helped them find y/n, and to Tim, that was all that mattered.
Once they were back in the States, Tim couldn’t find the courage to leave y/ns bedside still. He continued to wait for her to wake up, the doctors told him to give her body time to recover but just wanted to hear her voice. He wanted her to know that he was sorry.
“Wake up,” Tim whispered as he gently placed his hand on the side of y/n’s face, “You need to wake up, hon.”
Tim felt his eyes getting the best of him, he let out a deep sigh as he laid back in his chair. Lettin sleep overcome him.
It was only an hour after Tim had fallen asleep that y/n began to wake up, the lights from the room blinded her as she opened her eyes, an instant headache. y/n groaned, wincing from the brightness, “Dad?” she called out.
Tim thought it was odd that the elephant in his dream was calling him dad, slowly he was driven out of his dreams and jumped up. He frantically looked around, “Dad?” he heard y/n say.
“Oh my god, you’re awake!” Tim announced, getting up from his seat and running out to the hall, “she’s awake!” he announced to one of the nurses, and they both rushed back into the room together.
The nurse quickly checked y/n’s vitals and her stitches, “We’ll have to do some more testing, but from what I can tell, you’ll be making a full recovery,” she announced with a smile. “I’ll be back to check on you in an hour, let me know if you need anything,” she smiles as she walks out of the room.
Tim pulls you in for a hug, careful not to hurt her further, “you’re awake,” he breathed out.
y/n let out a relieved breath, holding onto Tim as tight as she could. y/n felt tears brimming her eyes as a sob escaped her lips. Tim rubbed small circles on her back, “I-I thought I was never gonna see you again,” she sobs.
Tim places a small kiss on the top of her forehead, “You’re safe now,” he says as he lies on the bed with y/n, never letting go of her hug. “That’s all that matters to me right now.”
“How did you find me?”
“We had some help,” Tim explains.
“Was it from Diego?” Tim looked at her with a surprised expression, “Jesse told me everything, he knew Diego was on his trail.”
“Diego mentioned that,” Tim sighed, “How do you feel?”
“Like I’m probably gonna need therapy for the rest of my life,” she comments, letting out a small chuckle.
Tim couldn’t help but chuckle, “I’ll get you the best therapist there is, I’ll even get you a thousand stuffed animals if that makes you feel better for a thousand minutes. Hell, I’ll even get you another dog, I dont care, just as I know you are home and you are safe and sound.”
Y/n couldn’t help but smile, but it soon falters, “Do we have to talk about what happened?” she asks.
“Not if you don’t want to, I’ll understand if you want to talk to a therapist instead. What you went through was heavy and…. I’ll understand.”
She nods, Tim watches as her mind wanders off, “I thought I was gonna die,” she begins to say, “and for a moment all I could think about was missing you. Missing our Sunday brunches with Kojo and even missing our softball practices.” She looks at Tim with tears in her eyes, “I was so scared.”
“I should’ve been able to protect you,” Tim whispers. “I’m so sorry, y/n.”
“It’s not your fault,” Y/n says, “I don’t blame you at all for any of it, you’ve always been there. You’ve protected me from the first moment I met you and you have never stopped.”
Tim felt a surge of love and pride within him, he had helped raise a brave young woman whom he was proud to call his daughter.
“I love you,” he says, pressing a gentle kiss on y/n’s forehead, his voice choking with emotion. “You are indeed the strongest person I know and I will always be here for you, no matter what.”
Y/n leaned against his shoulder, and the two of them lay there in silence for a moment before turning the T.V. on. He knew that he was going to need to help her through the tough times ahead, juggling a normal life with school and friends while also dealing with this trauma. Tim knew the next few months were not going to be easy, but he was more than willing to be the rock y/n needed to get through this. It all seemed fine now, but he knew the emotional toll a traumatic event like this could be on a grown adult, but imagine a teenager.
It was a lot to take in and it was going to be a lot of therapy.
For now, all that mattered to Tim was that Y/N was found and she was now safe and sound.

You hated your mom sometimes.
When she asked about Tim's favorite food, you should have known something was up.
Or, rather, she was up to something.
You told her, nonetheless, being sent off with two paper bags not long after, told to bring your dad and Tim lunch.
Tim's favorite.
She did it on purpose, trying to have you show your affection for him more openly, around his colleagues. They were already having their own suspicions and rumors about you two, you just hadn't noticed, yet.
So, when you walked into the mid wilshire department, carrying two hot bags in your hands, you first made your way to your dad. He was in his office, blinds up so you could see that he was hunched over some paperwork, glasses on his nose.
Not bothering to knock, you let yourself in, his gaze lifting as he heard the door. "Honey." he greeted you, removing the glasses. "What are you doing here?"
Holding up the bags you walked over, placing one in front of him. "Mom cooked." you explained, cocking a brow. "Wanted to know what's Tim's favorite food and sent me on the way to deliver some."
His head tilted, sending you a pointed look and you sighed. "I know, I know." you murmured, arms flailing at your sides to emphasize your words. "I couldn't stop her."
He shook his head, suspiciously sniffing at the bag. His hands wrapped around it, taking a hold of the plastic container inside. "Tell your mom thank you." he told you, sending you a grateful smile and you nodded.
"Will do."
Then you turned back around, walking back out to find Tim.
Grey took another sniff of the contents in the bag, humming to himself in surprise. Whatever Bradford's favorite food was, it definitely smelled good - not that he would have admitted it out loud, though.
You asked Smitty where Tim was and he directed you into the direction of the detectives, where you spotted him.
He was looking good in his uniform, ass hugged deliciously, as you made your way straight towards him.
"Oh my god." Angela gasped, causing Nyla's gaze to follow hers. "No way." she muttered, eyes as wide as Angela's. "Isn't this Grey's daughter? Why is she- Oh!" she cut herself off, as realization hit her.
"Bradford and her are a thing!"
Tim held himself from cursing under his breath, instead sending you a smile, even though it was forced. He hadn't missed the way Lopez and Harper perked up at your arrival.
You had basically made a beeline for him, not leaving any room for imagination.
"I'm bringing you lunch." you told him, returning the smile, holding up the paper bag in your hand. "And for my dad. Mom insisted that I'd bring you some, too."
He cocked a brow, huffing slightly. "Of course she did."
You chuckled, handing him the bag. "Made your favorite." you told him, sending him a wink. His eyes closed as he inhaled deeply, chuckling as they opened again. "Of course she did." he repeated himself, looking inside the bag.
He would have been lying if he said it didn't smell good.
It smelled fucking delicious.
"I'm guessing she wants the others to know." you spoke, biting your lip. "She wants to show you off as her daughter's boyfriend or something."
One of his brows lifted again, and you shrugged your shoulders. "Don't ask me." you gave back, shaking your head with a smile. "Anyways, I just wanted to bring you the food and see you."
He smiled a smile of his own, softened around the edges. "Thank you." he said, head tilting downwards the slightest bit. "And your mother."
You nodded, suppressing the urge to kiss him. You would have plenty of time to kiss him after his shift.
"I'm gonna go, then." you told him, and he nodded. "See you later." he gave back, hesitating, as he took a step closer, voice lowering to almost a whisper. "I love you."
Grinning, you shook your head. "I love you too." Then you turned around and left, but not without looking back at him.
Lucy plopped up at Tim's side almost immediately after you left, tearing him from his dreamy state. She looked at him knowingly, biting her lip to hide the smile that was threatening to take over.
"What's that look?" he wanted to know, brows furrowed as he tilted his head at her. "Oh, nothing." she quipped, smirking up at him. "That's so sweet of her to bring you lunch. I wonder why, though."
She had to be kidding, Tim thought.
Of course, she knew why you were bringing him lunch. She just wanted to hear it out of his mouth, admit that he was dating Grey's daughter.
It wasn't that he was ashamed of you - quite the opposite, really. He would have shouted it into the open world if he could, but he didn't want anyone to think that he was just using you, or you him.
Your dad was a cop, so of course you had to find someone with a badge as well, right?
Bullshit.
He would have willingly taken it up with anyone, if they just so much as dared to think like this about you.
Before he could respond, Angela and Nyla joined them, causing Tim to groan inwardly.
He was screwed.
"What was that?" Angela wanted to know, failing to hide her grin. She was happy for him, but she also wanted to tease him a bit.
Tim rolled his eyes, mocking her grin with one of his own in pure sarcasm. "What do you mean?" he retorted, clutching the bag to his chest subconsciously.
Nyla started to laugh, sending him a pointed look. "Please." she made, brows raised. "We all know what that was. Bradford is knocking Grey's daughter."
His face grew pale at her choice of words, instinctively falling into defense mode. "I'm not knocking her or anything." he told her, voice sharp as she bit down on a grin.
Of course she didn't mean it like that, but what other way to get him to talk other than this?
Angela must have picked up on her train of thought, whilst Lucy stood by and watched the scene unfold.
"Yeah, Tim, why don't you tell us what's going on between you and mini Grey?" Angela wanted to know, tilting her head with her arms crossed over her chest.
Tim winced at the mini Grey, shaking his head as he slowly came to terms with having to tell to them. They wouldn't stop bothering him, if he didn't.
"Y/N and I are in a relationship." he announced, looking between them only to find knowing smirks. "And you all knew already. Why make me spill it then?"
Lucy chuckled, her and Angela sharing a look. "Because you're grumpy and refuse to tell us about your private life." she explained, looking up at him.
He bit his cheek, swallowing the anger flaring up. "And this is exactly why I refuse to!" he retorted, shaking his head. "Because you all are fucking teases and wouldn't leave me in peace."
Angela scoffed, still smiling though.
"We're all happy for you, Bradford." she told him, her hand brushing over his arm. "We're just noisy assbutts, that want to snoop in your private life. Don't mind us, we'll just be sitting in the back, eating popcorn."
Tim sighed, shaking his head again. "Wouldn't have expected anything different." he returned with a huff. Nyla smirked, hand on her hips.
"And that's exactly why you love us."

It was rare for Tim Bradford to take a day off but ever since you, his 17-year-old daughter, was born you he had been taking more of them off and you were glad for that. One you got your dad and two he actually had time to wind down and focus on himself along with taking care of himself. He had just arrived home early in the morning, 6:30 AM, on Thursday from work he knew that would be getting up soon and you would be starting your routine of getting ready to go school and then softball practice right after. He started to get your lunch and then he was restocking your cooler with ice and drinks and some snacks that you had in your Trailblazer, once he was done, he picked it up and grabbed your keys and headed out to put it in your trunk so you didn’t have to carry too much at once. When he went back inside, he heard the shower running and smiled. He made himself busy with things in the kitchen and the laundry room where he went and got your practice clothing out and made sure they were dry and then put them in your bag. By the time he was done you had walked down the stairs with damp hair and when you saw him you smiled. “Hey, Dad.” You said and he looked up, smiled as you walked over and hugged him.
“Good morning, Sweetheart.” He said and kissed the top of your head as you buried your face into his chest. “Sleep well?” He asked and you nodded and then released him from the hug.
“Yea, I did. Did you have a good shift?” You asked as you moved to make yourself something to eat as he leaned up against the counter and watched you. “Coffee?” You asked and he shook his head.
“No, thank you. I’m planning on falling asleep as soon as you leave.” He said and you chuckled as you poured yourself some.
“So… have you confessed your love to Lucy yet?” You asked him smirking as you took a sip of your coffee made just how you liked it.
“Y/N.” He said with a warning tone and you rolled your eyes but still smirked.
“Oh, come on. Everyone can see you are in love with her and she is in love with you.” You said and when he didn’t say anything you knew you had won, sort of. You had met Lucy a few months back and saw the immediate heart eyes they had for each other. You and her really clicked.
“Don’t you have to get to school?” He asked as you looked at the stove and set your coffee down.
“Fine. We’re not done talking about this.” You said as you went to collect your backpack, lunch, and softball bag.
“Yes, we are.” He said and again you rolled your eyes.
“Whatever.” You chuckled “I have practice after school.” You said already dreading it because you hated your coach and he tended to overwork your team to the point of any of you getting hurt or sick from the little to none water breaks and the running without stopping and again no water.
“I’ve already packed the cooler and put it in your Trailblazer. Now get going before you're late. Be safe and I love you.” He said and pulled you into another hug and kissed your head again.
“I love you too.” You said and released him from the hug and you were out the door heading to your Trailblazer and off to school.
You had arrived at school, with plenty of time to spare, you parked next to your friend’s, Samantha Nolan, John Nolan’s daughter, your friend and fellow softball team member, 4Runner. You and her have been friends since the start of middle school and often stayed with each other. It was just a coincidence that your father’s worked together. You just sat in your Trailblazer just trying to mentally prepare yourself for the day and what is to come at practice. Lately your wrist and shoulder had been hurting and with you pitching it made it much worse and then batting made it worse. You tried to say something to Coach Theo Morgan about it but he just said to suck it up and deal with it. Your trainer Amanda Fender and assistant Coach Liam Colt just looked on with sorrow in her eyes, she tried to help but Coach Morgan wouldn’t listen to them and would threaten to fire them if they were brought up again. Several parents were complaining about how bad Coach Morgan was and how their children were breaking down to Coach Colt and they had even compensated by pulling their kids from the team. You haven’t told your dad about it because you didn’t like conflict and he had enough on his plate to begin with. You absolutely loved playing softball but lately you’ve been dreading even playing and starting to hate it.
When you looked down at your Trailblazer’s clock and saw it was time to start heading in, you killed the engine and grabbed your backpack and lunch and headed inside. You were quick to meet up with Samantha. You both had pretty much all of the same classes together which helped a lot. “Hey!” She said and hugged you.
“Hey.” You said and winced a little bit when your shoulder moved the wrong way and she frowned when she released you.
“You, ok?” She asked and you shook your head.
“No, my shoulder hurts when I love it a certain way and so does my wrist.” You said and she looked at you as you both began walking to your first class of the day.
“Have you told your dad?” She asked and again you shook your head.
“No, he has enough on his plate. You know how it is.” You spoke
“What about Coach Morgan?” She asked but knew the answer when you gave her a look.
“You know he doesn’t give a shit about us. All he cares about is winning.” You said and she made a face and nodded agreeing with you. “Even if I told Amanda about it, she wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.” You added and again she nodded in agreeing with you. You both arrived at the classroom and went and sat down in your seats, which were right beside each other, and then a few minutes passed and the school day started.
The rest of the day went by quickly, maybe a little too quickly for your liking because now you had to face Coach Morgan and the hell that he was going to put you through. The softball field was just a little bit behind the high school so it was only a short walk to the field. When the last bell rang everyone was let out and you had gone to your Trailblazer along with Samantha, who was parked next to you, and you both traded out your school backpack for your softball gear. You both headed to the locker rooms chatting away. When you arrived, your other teammates were there doing the same thing and everyone greeted each other and then started to complain about how today was going to go and how shitty of a coach that Coach Morgan was.
Once everyone was changed and had grabbed their gear you all were heading down to the field. Everyone started to warm up and had to wait on your coach, who never seemed to care to actually show up on time so your assistant coach, Coach Colt, started your practice. He was a better coach than Coach Morgan because he actually cared about his team members. Practice started easy and it was actually fun then the pitching and batting started and as soon as you threw the first pitch your shoulder screamed in pain and so did your wrist and your pitch was off and this concerned both Coach Colt and Trainer Amanda enough for both of them to walk up to you. “Are you ok?” Coach Colt asked and you nodded not wanting to say anything even though Coach Morgan wasn’t there. They gave you a look and you believed you could trust them.
“No, my shoulder and wrist have been killing me.” You said and they nodded and Trainer Amanda started to press around and when she got to a point you winced and drew back.
“How long has this been going on?” Coach Colt asked
“Since last week.” You said and they gave you a look and a frown “I tried to tell Coach Morgan about it but he just said to suck it up and get on with it.” You added and they had a look of anger on their face.
“Why don’t you go sit down and we’ll get the relief pitcher in.” Coach Colt said and you nodded and went to sit down as your other friend Elizabeth Summers walked up to the pitching mound after giving you a sad smile. You were just glad to have some rest. 30 minutes into the practice Coach Morgan showed up and when he saw you sitting on the bench, he grew furious and stormed over to Coach Colt.
“Why the fuck is Bradford sitting on the bench and not on the fucking pitching mound?” He screamed and everything was silent and everything halted. Nobody liked Coach Morgan and were terrified of him.
“Her pitches were off because her shoulder was hurting and so was her wrist. So, Amanda and I are giving her a rest.” Coach Colt said defending you and trying to keep calm.
“I don’t give a fuck if she’s hurting. You have to work through the pain. No pain, no gain.” Coach Morgan said “I want her back on that pitching mound this instant.” He said and turned to you as you were picking up your glove and heading to the mound looking at Elizabeth who gave you a sympathetic look. You were a great pitcher and because of that you worked harder. They walked away from you to stand on the side “Now begin!” He yelled and you clenched your teeth and got ready to throw the ball already filling your shoulder scream in pain. You took a deep breath and wound up and threw the ball and as you released it tears came to your eyes and they clenched shut but opened them quickly, it had made it to the catcher’s, Samantha, glove like you planned it but it still fucking hurt. Samantha threw the ball back to you. This exercise went on for about 2 minutes just to get you warmed up and each time your shoulder and wrist screamed in pain. “Ok, I want to go onto the next drill!” Coach Morgan yelled “Coach Colt will be hitting the ball to different positions and everyone will be throwing it just like in a game.” He yelled and everyone nodded. You stayed put as well as everyone else as Coach Colt walked up and started the drill. Each time you caught it and threw it your shoulder screamed in pain and you were throwing some wild throws and that just pissed him off. “Time out!” He yelled and stormed over to you and grabbed you by the arm and practically drug you off the field and started laying into you. “What the fuck was that?! It’s like you’re not even trying! You’re supposed to be my best pitcher and you’re pitching like shit! I don’t give a fuck if your injured, you work through the pain!” He yelled and tears stung your eyes. Off in your peripheral vision you could see everyone looking and grouped together. Everyone knew you were hurt and tried to do something but they got punished or threatened to be kicked off the team. You weren’t paying attention to him and that pissed him off “Are you even fucking listening to me?!” He said and shoved you and then grabbed the front of your shirt and got up in your face.
“I am. My shoulder really hurts.” You tried to defend yourself and then he let go of your shirt and you thought it was over but then he raised his hand and slapped you in the face which made you step back and crash into the fence and head hitting the pole, you looked up holding your face and tears actually fell from your eyes.
“I don’t fucking care! How do you expect to become a professional?!” He said and grabbed you again and you were terrified and your face showed it and about that time Coach Colt and Amanda were rushing to your aid and Coach Colt pulled Coach Morgan off of you as Amanda shielded you.
“That is enough. Her shoulder and wrist have been hurting for weeks and you simply ignored her and threatened to kick her off the team if she said anything. That’s right we’ve heard all about it.” Coach Colt said
“That is not an excuse!” Coach Morgan yelled
“Yes, it is. Any more pushing and she could damage her shoulder and wrist for good and she won’t be able to play at all.” Amanda said as she held your crying form. Coach Morgan huffed and stormed off and left. Coach Colt turned to the rest of the team.
“Practice is over. Go home and rest, we’ll let you know when the next practice is.” He said and everyone nodded and started to gather their stuff and head to their cars not bothering to change then he turned to you and Amanda. “Are you ok?” He asked and you shook her head which you must’ve hit because shaking it caused it to throb and you had some blood running from your temple and your ear was ringing. “Here let me see.” He said and put a comforting hand on yours and slowly moved it and he grew angry. You had a handprint from where Coach Morgan had slapped you and his wedding ring must've got you too because you were bleeding from your cheek bone and bruising along with some swelling started to form. “I fucking hate that guy.” He said “You really need to go get checked out.” He added.
“I just want to go home. I’ll get cleaned up there.” You said
“Are you sure? One of us can take you to the hospital.” Amanda said and you nodded “Is anyone home with you?” She asked and you nodded. They knew Tim and Nolan were police officers and knew their schedule.
“Yea, dad is home.” You said in a quiet voice. Just then Samantha walked up with yours and her stuff.
“I’ll make sure she gets home safely.” Samantha said and that made you jump because you didn’t hear her walk up. That concerned them.
“Thank you, Samantha.” Amanda said and she smiled as she threw an arm around your shoulder and began your trek to your cars.
“You are not ok to drive.” She said and you looked at her.
“No, I am. I just want to be home.” You said and she nodded.
“Ok, just take it nice and slow, ok.” She asked and you nodded.
“Ok.” You said as you both put your stuff in your cars and then both got in and started your drive home. As you were getting closer to your house your vision was starting to get blurry with tears and a little bit of double vision was starting. Lucky for you, you had just pulled into your driveway next to your dad’s truck. You killed the engine and started to bawl. After a few minutes you wiped your tears, grabbed your backpack and softball bag and headed inside. You were moving slowly but straightened up and tried to walk normally. You turned the handle of the door and walked in being met with the TV on and your dad in the kitchen. You say your stuff down by the front door and then walk in with your head down and he smiled at you.
“Hey, Sweetheart. How was school?” He asked
“It was good.” You said and he frowned because he noticed how your voice croaked.
“Are you ok?” He asked and you nodded.
“I’m fine. I’m just going to head upstairs and get ready for dinner.” You said and you didn’t give him a chance to say anything as you rushed upstairs. When you got to your room you looked into the mirror and saw the damage, the handprint had darkened and there was more running down your face. Your shoulder and wrist hurt. It wasn’t even 2 minutes later when you heard a knock at your door.
“Can I come in?” He asked
“Yes.” You said as he opened the door.
“Y/N are you ok? You’ve been crying, I can tell.” Tim said
“How can you tell?” You asked with a scratchy voice.
“Your voice croaked like it always does when you’ve been crying. Also, you're my daughter I know these things." He said with a chuckle and you had let out a little one. You had your back to him and when he turned around, he instantly became angry.
“Who the fuck did this to you?” He asked as he walked up to you and gently grabbed your chin to look at you.
“Coach Morgan.” You said quietly
“That son of a bitch. Why did he do this to you?” He asked releasing you.
“My pitches and throws were sloppy because my shoulder and wrist had been hurting for weeks and he got angry and pulled me off the field. He cussed me out and then turned violent and then slapped me hard enough to push me into the chained linked fence hard. His ring cut him and my ear has been ringing ever since. My head hurts too from hitting the pole.” You said and Tim was angry but not at you. He had released your chin when you had begun talking.
“I'm taking you to the hospital and I’m going to take pictures of this and do something about it.” He said and you nodded and he pulled out his phone and began taking pictures of your face. When he was done, he ushered you out of your room and down the stairs to his truck where he was helping you get in and then he got in himself and started the engine, he pulled out of the driveway and started driving towards the hospital.
When you both got there, he made sure to park close by and then he killed the engine he first got out then he walked over and helped you out. On the way to the hospital your vision had doubled, the ringing intensified, and you had become dizzy to the point of almost throwing up. You were almost in the hospital when you suddenly went to the trash can and threw up. “Woah.” He said and rubbed your back after you were done you wiped your mouth and headed inside where he told you to go and sit down. Tim walked up to the front desk and got a forum to fill out. You had told him you were dizzy and having double vision. He walked over and sat down next to you and began filling out what was needed, answering the questions with ease. You leaned against his shoulder on your non-injured side.
“I don't feel good, Daddy.” You said and he turned to look at you. You had turned pale and looked overall exhausted. “Wanna go to sleep.” You said and he shook his head.
“No can do. Not until we get you checked out by the doctor.” Tim said and you nodded trying your best to stay awake. He was quick to fill the rest of it out and stood up causing you to sit up and took the clipboard to the front desk. He went and sat back down and you cuddled into him. Thankfully the ER wasn't that busy and you were getting called back quickly. They were put in a room and then Gino Brown, Jackson West’s boyfriend, walked in and stopped.
“Officer Bradford, pleasure seeing you again.” He said with a smile then turned to you “Y/N, what happened?” He asked as he began taking an assessment and hooking you up to a monitor.
“Coach Morgan hit me and that caused me to slam into a pole.” You said slurring your words.
“He really did a number on you.” He said, “I'm gonna shine a light in your eyes.” He said and you nodded but squeezed your eyes shut from the moment.
“I'm sorry.” You apologized, opening your eyes and he shook his head.
“No worries.” He said and shined a light in your eyes and your pupils were slow to react. He sighed and turned towards your dad but could still see you “I think she has a concussion but I want Dr. Sawyer to confirm.” Gino said and he nodded he was about to leave when you spoke up.
“I think I'm gonna be sick.” You said and they could've sworn you had turned green and Gino was quick to grab a bucket and you threw up. When you were done you were catching your breath when all of sudden your eyes rolled into the back of your head, you tensed, and you began to seize, which was not normal.
“Woah! Ok.” Gino said and was quick to roll you on your side and then instructed Tim to help as he stepped outside “I'm gonna need some help in here!” He yelled out and two other nurses and Dr. Grace Sawyer rushed in.
“What happened?” Grace asked, quickly taking over Tim's place as the other nurses were quick to get an IV in and you hooked up on fluids. “Give a push of Midazolam. Are you ok with us giving her a sedative just to let her brain rest?” She asked calmly and Tim nodded truly scared for his daughter.
“We were talking and she was slurring her words and I was about to come and get you when she got sick. When she was done, she was catching her breath and then her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she started to seize.” Gino said after pushing the medication in and you stopped and then he pushed a sedative in and they saw you visibly relax.
“Get her hooked up to a monitor and get her admitted. I want her to get a CT scan as well.” Grace said and everyone nodded and then she turned to Tim. “Now what happened to make her look like this?” She asked.
“She said Coach Theo Morgan, her softball coach, hit her and that caused her to slam into a pole.” Tim said as she motioned him to walk with her.
“Him. We have had a lot of kids come in with shin splints, stress fractures, broken bones, and concussions. Y/N is the worst case we've had. We've never had one come in slurring words, complaining of dizziness, getting sick, and then seizing.” Grace said as they arrived at the CT scan normally, they wouldn't let anyone in the viewing room but seeing as Tim was a police officer, they let him. They watched the screen scan your brain. “Everything looks good from the scan. The seizure sometimes happens with a concussion. I want to keep her out and here for a few days and recheck in a couple of days.” Grace said and Tim nodded. “I also want to take an x-ray of her shoulder and wrist since it said on her paperwork about them hurting her.” She said and again he nodded.
“Can I get all of this in a report and the others? I'm gonna do something about this once and for all.” Tim asked and Grace nodded.
“Of course. I want this guy to go away.” She said as they moved you out of the CT scan and then they followed you to the x-ray room. They took the x-rays and it turns out that you did have a stress fracture to the wrist and a dislocated shoulder along with a stress fracture in it as well. Tim was outraged. You would need surgery before having your shoulder moved back in place.
When they got you changed into a gown while Tim made some calls. He walked back into your room; he saw you sleeping, he looked over your injuries and grew enraged. It wasn't long until Lucy was knocking on the door and he looked up surprised. Sure, he had texted in a group chat that you had made and he reluctantly was a part of, but he was surprised that anyone had shown up.
“Lucy, what are you doing here?” He asked surprised as he stood and she walked into the room and she hugged him.
“I saw the group chat and figured that you shouldn’t be alone so I came down.” She said and they released from the hug.
“Thank you, that means so much to us.” Tim said and offered her his chair while he grabbed another.
“So, what happened?” She asked and he told her all about it and how this wasn’t Coach Morgan’s first-time harming kids. “That is awful. Are you going to press charges?” She asked and he noted.
“Yes, and I’m going to take him to court. This isn’t his first-time harming kids.” Tim said just then Grace walked back in and smiled and greeted Lucy.
“She’s going to wake up soon.  When did she last eat?” She asked
“Last time she ate was in the afternoon at lunch.” He spoke. It was 8 PM now so it had been 8 hrs.
“Since it has been 8 hrs. we can go ahead and run some bloodwork and then get her in surgery in the morning.” Grace said “I just need your permission.” She added.
“You have my permission.” He said and she smiled and nodded.
“Gino will be in here in a minute to take the samples. The sedative should wear off here in an hour.” She said and Tim nodded and she left the room. A few minutes later Gino was walking in and getting samples and then sending them off to the labs.
“He really did a number on her didn’t he?” Lucy asked and Tim nodded
“Yea he did. It pisses me off.” He said and then it fell silent. Like Grace said an hour later you were waking up. Tim and Lucy were up in an instant.
“Daddy?” You asked groggily.
“You’re ok, Sweetheart. You’ve been admitted.” He said and then you looked around and saw Lucy and smiled.
“Lucy.” You said and she smiled and walked over and bent down and kissed your forehead.
“Hey, Mini Tim.” She said and Tim rolled his eyes. You had gotten the name because you were just like your father in more ways than one.
“Sweetheart-” Your dad began “Your shoulder is dislocated and fractured and your wrist has a stress fracture in it. You also have a concussion and you had a seizure.” He told you and you took in the news. “You’re having surgery on it in the morning and staying here for a couple of days.” He said and you looked at him.
“Will I ever be able to play softball again?” You asked
“That’s a question for Grace.” He spoke
“Grace is my doctor?” You asked and he nodded and you smiled.
“Gino is your nurse.” Lucy said and that made you even more happy. A few minutes later Grace and Gino walked in and smiled when they saw you were up.
“It’s good to see you up.” She said “I’m sure your dad already told you what is going on.” She added and you nodded “I ran a CT Scan on you to make sure nothing was damaged after the hit to the pole and there wasn’t anything.” She said “We ran bloodwork and everything looks good and we have you scheduled for tomorrow morning to fix your shoulder. Do you have any questions?” She asked and you nodded.
“Will I ever be able to play softball again?” You asked and she smiled.
“After physical therapy we will reassess but I highly believe that you will be able to.” She said and you smiled.
The rest of the night was filled with talking and then Lucy had to leave and now it was just you and your dad. You stayed up for a little bit longer until you fell asleep and then after he made sure you were good and asleep, he allowed him to sleep your heart monitor luring him to sleep.
——————————————————————
The next morning Tim was being woken up by a knock on the door and Grace and Gino were walking and he smiled. They began talking and that had woken you up. They greeted you and then began the process of talking to you about prepping for surgery and what they planned on doing. After a few minutes they were wheeling you into the prep room and had you count down from 100 and before you got to 88 you were out like a light and they were wheeling you into surgery.
Tim was a nervous wreck; he had let everyone know what was happening and he wasn’t surprised that they had shown up. Wesley, Angela, Nolan, Lucy, Jackson, and Talia had showed up, they asked how it had happened and he told them. He told them how he was going to press charges and take him to court. Wesley said that he would be your lawyer. He also had called your school and let them know what was going on and then he called your assistant coach and trainer and they were down in an instant. They told him that they tried to tell Coach Morgan to back off but they were threatened to be fired and they watched the entire thing happen. Tim told them his plan and they supported him and said they would testify and knew other parents would too.
1 hr. later they were done with surgery and Grace was walking out to them. “Everything was a success and she is to make a full recovery.” She said and she left and Gino and a few other nurses were wheeling you into your room. You were groggy and slept a lot. When you fully woke up you noticed Coach Colt and Amanda there and you smiled.
“Hey.” You said to them and they greeted you back. Every now and then you would nod off and they let you sleep as much as possible and Gino along with other nurses were in and out checking on you. They had put a few screws in your shoulder and fixed your dislocated shoulder.
On your third day of being in the hospital your dad had to leave for a few hours but Lucy said she would stay with you. You both gossiped and you even talked about her being in love with your dad and how he wouldn’t admit it but he was so in love. When your dad came back you both acted like nothing happened but he had his suspicions.
On the fourth day you were finally released and were given instructions on how to take care of your shoulder and what exercises to do to keep your wrist and elbow from locking up. Your dad also told you that he had pressed charges against Coach Morgan and to take him to court as well and he talked with the sports director at school and the principal.
 ——————————————————————
Court day arrived and you were dressed up and so was your dad. You walked into the courthouse and met Wesely and he hugged you gently. He obtained all the medical records from you and other cases and Tim had given him the pictures he had taken. Court started and it was tough going at first but it was turning in your favor when Wesley presented medical records from you and others along with the pictures and had you along with other team members and passed team members testify along with parents. Coach Colt and Trainer Amanda both testified.  It was a long-drawn-out process. There was a break for the jury to decide if he was guilty or not and it didn’t take them long. They came back and gave the judge the verdict and when they said guilty it was all over. Relief washed over you. Wesley turned to you and smiled. Coach Morgan was arrested for harming and putting a minor in the hospital and he was banned from coaching for life. You thanked Wesely profusely. “Thank you so much.” You said and he smiled.
“You’re part of the family and this family sticks together.” He said and then gently hugged you and kissed you head and then left. You and your dad left after talking to the others and Samantha, who had come and testified she also had provided a video that she secretly took and gave it over to evidence. Tim and you sat in the truck and you sighed in relief and he looked over and smiled.
“Everything is going to be ok now. He’s gone and can’t hurt you or anyone else anymore.” He said and leaned over and brought you in for a hug and held your head and kissed it.
“Thank you, dad. For everything.” You said and he smiled.
“Anything for my girl.” He said and then you smirked and he raised an eyebrow.
“So, when are you and Lucy going to get together?” You asked
“Not this again.” He said and you laughed and that made him smile. One of these days you were going to get him to admit it.

Hello! Just saw your post and I'll help you out with something to do. I have a request for Tim Bradford, since I haven't seen a lot of daughter! readers, here's my idea:
Based on S5EP5 "The Fugitive", Tim's daughter (young or teenager, up to you) goes to see him after hearing word of his emergency spinal surgery. Maybe a little angst in the beginning but a whole lotta fluff. *taps fingers together* Maybe climbing into the hospital bed beside him?
Anyway, you have free rein, have fun! Can't wait to see what you come up with.
hi lovely! i don’t do daughter readers, i’m sorry <3 i only do x reader, usually romantic though i’ve been attempting to do a bit of platonic - but just not daughter/son/child readers!

Tim Bradford x rookie!reader
Warnings/Tags: fluff, hurt, angst, unspoken feelings, Grey raging Word count: 2.197 Authors note: Hello love, thanks for the request! (I'm sorry it's so late!) Not a part 2, but a part 3 for you! Hope you'll like it anyways! Also, this isn't entirely proof read yet!
Enjoy!

Did he even breathe?
Looking at Tim through your peripheral, you knew he thought the same.
Grey was raging on, talking without breathing.
Soon he'd suffocate, you were sure of it. Luna would have a heart attack, when he would die because of you - because you were dumb enough to be caught by him.
It wasn't even your fault, really.
It was Tim's.
At least that's what you told yourself.
"And I will not be the one who will take the brunt when one of you dies, because you were too busy making love eyes to notice a threat!"
Maybe you should have just told him - at least that's what Grey thought to himself, as he yelled at one of his best officers and his rookie.
Who were sleeping with each other.
He mentally flinched, not wanting to think about it too deeply.
"You are responsible for her training!" he continued, pointing at Tim who had his hands at his sides, trying to just get past this.
He had never felt this uncomfortable in his life before - at least there wasn't much that compared to this situation.
"How do you think will others judge when they learn about your relationship? Do you think they will see her ratings fit? Or will they think you rated her better, because you-" he had to stop himself, or else it would have gotten out of hand - though you all knew, what he wanted to say.
Because you are sleeping with her.
Your career would be ruined, if the right people found out. No one would want you to work for them, never fully trusting you.
As the tears welled up in your eyes, you tried your best to suppress them.
Grey was right, and he had every right to be angry.
"This will have consequences!" he continued, finally taking a deep breath, as he tried to calm himself, for the sake of his heart.
His wife would have killed him, if he dared to have a heart attack - especially when she was currently trying to convince him to retire.
Maybe he should have.
"You will be replaced as her TO - that's the least I will have to do. Other than that, this conversation will never, and I mean never, leave this room. If anyone asks why you were replaced as her TO, you tell them that you don't know."
His eyes wandered from Tim to you, his head shaking in disappointment.
Never would he let you forget this day.
"I can't believe that this happened right under my nose and I didn't notice it." he spoke a little quieter, before his voice rose again. "And I would have never expected such behavior from you, of all people, Bradford!"
Tim swallowed, gaze fixed on the table in front of him. He didn't know what to say, guilt making his tongue heavy as lead.
Grey grumbled to himself, sitting down in his chair. He sighed in exhaustion, wiping over his face with his hand.
"I know I'll regret it later." he began, putting his head in his hand with his elbow on the armrest, as he looked up at you.
You two stood straight as sticks, and for a moment Grey had to smirk inwardly.
"Are you in a relationship or do you plan to be in one?" The same moment he voiced his question, he regretted it. His daughter would have probably told him how embarrassing he was.
Did he want to do the talk now, too?
Your eyes widened, looking at Tim in shock. His gaze was fixed somewhere behind Grey, jaw clenched.
It had been a few months now, since you regularly started to sleep with each other. You couldn't deny that you had become attached, having gathered feelings for him.
But did he feel the same?
Biting your cheek, you looked away.
Of course he wouldn't.
"Okay..." Grey mumbled, scratching his chin, as he leaned back in his chair. "I will still tell you what will await you anyway, in case you decide to be in a relationship somewhere in the future."
He shook himself inwardly, one eye twitching, as he tried to stay as professional as possible.
"I hardly advise you to work separate. Like I said, if one of you dies because you aren't focused on the task at hand, the other will pay the consequences. The LAPD doesn't like it, when two of their officers are in a relationship and in the same unit. It's a risk the intern doesn't want to take."
You simply nodded, swallowing against the lump in your throat.
What other choice did you have anyway?
Grey nodded to himself, not happy his evening had been ruined. Luna would be furious if she knew how close he had been to having a heart attack.
"And now go home. Your shift is over, anyways."
Breathing a silent sigh of relief, you nodded, heading out of the office. You had been lucky the blinds had been closed, otherwise the whole LAPD would have witnessed that conversation.
You didn't look at Tim, as you made your way to the locker room, biting back the emotions trying to take over.
The Mexican food you wanted to order at his place, would be cancelled now, your whole evening ruined.
You really should have looked better if anyone was near, before you talked about private things.
Seriously, how could you miss Grey?
He had seen how close you seemed, after parking the shop, Tim's hand almost brushing yours as he leaned closer to talk into your ear.
This one gesture had spoken more than a thousand words to him.
And it was exactly the reason, why Tim avoided to talk about his private life.
Or show it, for that matter.
But he had a moment of weakness, your flirtatious behavior over the day constantly turning him on.
He really should have known better.
His eyes scanned the parking lot for you, trying to make you out in the dark. He spotted your car, seeing that you weren't there yet, as he made his way over to it.
He decided to wait, fingers drumming on the strap of his backpack, as you left the station.
Fumbling for your keys, you didn't notice him at first, only when you almost stood in front of him.
Blinking a few times in confusion, your cheeks heated up. "What do you want?" you asked, inhaling shakily. "We should talk." he gave back, shifting his weight.
Brows furrowed, you looked at him. "If you want to end things, then just say it, Tim." you told him, trying to act nonchalant about it, even if your heart broke at the possibility of him ending whatever it was you two had.
"Wh- No!" he responded a little too fast, taking a step forward with his mouth agape. "I mean- If you want to end this, then I'll stay away from you."
Eyes widening, you felt how they burned from tears again. Of course you didn't want to end this.
Shaking your head, you told him exactly that.
"I don't want to end this." you spoke, taking a step forward as well, all the while feeling Grey's gaze burning holes in your back, even if he wasn't even near.
"But I don't think we should continue on like this. Grey is right, what we're doing is risky." you continued, sighing heavily. "We're jeopardizing our careers, risking to lose our jobs. Or at least risking our credibility and the trust they have in us. I think it's better, that he replaces you as my TO."
Your words struck something deep inside him, making him swallow. On one side he thought you were right - if he continued being your TO, though not able to keep his hands from you, your career would have been over, before it even started.
On the other hand, he feared that he'd lose you.
"If you want to keep this up, what do you mean we shouldn't continue on like this?" he wanted to know, the crease between his brows deepening.
"Are you breaking up?"
The words had left his lips, before he had a chance to properly think about it. His cheeks burned up, and he was thankful that you weren't able to see it in the dim light of the parking lot.
Your mouth opened, but you weren't able to utter a single word, only staring at him. Chuckling uneasily, you shook your head.
"Breaking up postulates there's something to break up." you told him, voice small. You didn't want him to see the heartbreak in your eyes, so you averted them.
"We're not together - there is nothing to break up."
He swallowed heavily, his throat suddenly way too dry. His heart seemed to be in an iron grip, pumping ice crystals through his veins.
He hated the way you said it, the way you sounded so broken.
"Grey is right." he muttered bitterly, nodding to himself, as he took a step backwards. Your eyes snapped back to his, following his movement.
"We shouldn't do this. The LAPD doesn't approve of it and we only risk our jobs. You're right, we shouldn't continue this."
He turned around and started to walk away, your heart breaking as he did. Tears welled up in your eyes, and you felt as if you couldn't breathe.
"Tim!" you called out, voice shaking, as you practically jumped after him, grabbing his arm to stop him from walking further away from you.
He stiffened, but didn't turn around. He only stopped, with your hand still on his arm. Inhaling shakily, you braced yourself for your next words.
"I don't want to break up." you softly spoke, one of the tears managing to free itself. Biting your lip, you shook your head. "I don't want to let you go - I can't."
He slowly turned around to you, giving you the chance to take your words back.
But you didn't.
Staring straight back at him, you stood your ground. That you were still at the almost empty parking lot, wasn't important anymore.
Neither were the people that could walk out of the station at any moment.
"If I have to do more tests, have another TO, then so be it. But I don't want to lose you, Tim."
More tears rolled down your cheeks, betraying your aching heart. Your emotions were on display for him to see, and you weren't planning on backing down.
He took a shaky breath, mouth slightly open. He didn't know what to say - hell, he wasn't even sure what you were trying to say. Had you fallen for him? As much as he had fallen for you?
"Hate me, abandon me, whatever you want." you told him, wet lips pressing together, head shaking. "But I can't act like I don't have feelings for you, any longer. Yes, it can cost us our jobs, or just mine, since you're one of the best officers here, but I'm willing to take that risk. Let Grey be angry, shout at us or transfer me when im a p2 - I don't care."
He was speechless, a rare sight.
Swallowing, he took a step closer. "What are you trying to say?" He had to know, had to hear it one more time, in case he had misunderstood you.
"I'm saying that I have feelings for you, that I have fallen in love with you, Tim." you brought over your shaking lips, heart racing as you were nervous how he would respond to your confession.
He huffed, amusement and relief hugging him like a warm blanket. Honestly, he hadn't known how he'd reacted, if you'd pushed him away for real.
His arms wrapped around you tightly, bringing you into his embrace, as he exhaled slowly. Hugging him back, your cheek rested on his chest, hearing his heart race.
"I have feelings for you, too." he confessed, smiling into your hair. "Fuck the LAPD and their opinion. I have the sergeant exam in my pocket, if they want to punish us, I'll find another station, maybe I'll even go to the metro."
You couldn't help but laugh quietly at him, knowing he'd do it.
"Go out with me." he spoke, looking down at you, after you separated, his hands on your upper arms.
Smiling, you sniffed, face still tear stained. "I'd love to." you agreed, nodding to underline your words. He smiled back, before his hand wrapped around your shoulder, walking you towards your car.
"Are we still getting Mexican tonight?" he asked, a smirk playing at his lips. Rolling your eyes, you nodded with a grin.
"I'll get us a table." he told you, sending you a wink, as you gaped at him, stopping at your car. "I know the owner."
Shaking your head, you couldn't help but smile. "Okay." He nodded, smiling right back.
As Tim told you he'd pick you up in an hour, Grey smiled to himself.
He'd been watching your interaction through a window, secretly happy about your smiling faces, as his wife caught him stalking you two, hitting his arm in warning.
"Wade!"

Tim Bradford x reader
Warnings/Tag: fluff, language, comfort, angst, hurt, readers ex was abusive, grumpy Tim (yes, he's a warning), not entirely proof read yet Word count: 5.933 Authors note: Hello love, thank you so much for the request! I had so much fun writing it, and again, I'm sorry for losing the original request (but, tell you what, I managed to get the request at least copied and pasted, because I hadn't closed tumblr on my laptop yesterday and it was still there (even though it was just a bug, but hey, i managed to copy the text)) Fun fact: My daughters name is gonna be Hailee one day (If I ever get a daughter). Also, I might have messed a little with the timeline (in terms of Celina appearing a little earlier) Here's the original request:
"I currently can't stop thinking about Tim Bradford so I came up with this grumpy Tim request, cause I need grumpy Tim becoming the protective sweet guy he is. Tim has a new neighbor, a single mom. Afraid that now his peace and quiet in his home will be over, he's convinced of the contrary when reader's little girl wrapped the grumpy neighbor around her little fingers.
Reader wants to start a new life away from her abusive ex and so she moved states with her daughter. Tim instantly melts when the cute little girl gets bubbly when she sees Tim.
In the meantime Tim has a suspicion why reader is a single mom, she flinches when there're loud noises or when he gets too close to her. One night she wanted to do something in her apartment and fell from the ladder hitting her head hard. Her daughter runs to Tim telling him her mommy is hurt. Reader has a bad concussion and at first doesn't recognize Tim thinking it's her ex hurting her. From that moment her secret is revealed and Tim swears to himself he's going to protect these two at all costs. Perhaps we can also see Tim nursing her back to health with her concussion 😱🙃🥹 "
Now, without further ado, enjoy!

"Hailee?"
Rolling your eyes you sat the box in your hands down. Where did she go now? "Hailee?" you repeated louder, leaving the kitchen to go look for your daughter.
Leaving the house you saw her at your car, with a stranger.
"Hailee!" you called, as you suddenly panicked, running towards her. The stranger took a step back, holding up his hands.
Stopping in front of your daughter, shielding her as you softly pushed her behind you, you looked up at the stranger.
"Can I help you?" you asked, heart racing.
Did he find you? But he was in jail - he shouldn't even know you moved states.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to intrude." the man returned, smiling slightly. "My name's Tim Bradford, I'm your neighbor. I saw that your daughter was alone and I just wanted to make sure she's okay."
Eyes widening, you sighed in relief.
"Sorry, I just-" you started, but cut yourself off. "I'm Y/N Y/L/N. We just moved here. Nice to meet you." He nodded, eyes wandering over the many boxes in and around your car.
"Do you need help?" he asked, motioning at the boxes. "Oh..." you made, swallowing. "Yeah, some help would be nice, thank you." He smiled, a smile that caused you to return it.
"Okay..." he mumbled, randomly picking one of the boxes and starting to walk towards the house. Picking up a box as well, you let Hailee walk in front of you, following Tim.
He stood in the entryway, looking around. "Where do these boxes go?" he wanted to know. Reading what was written on the side of the box you motioned for the living room.
He nodded, putting the box down.
His eyes wandered over the numerous kids toys already scattered on the floor, cocking a brow.
Clearing your throat awkwardly, you put your box down beside his.
"She loves these toys, she's five." you explained, licking your bottom lip. He didn't seem too convinced of a five-year-old in his neighborhood, but you wouldn't let him judge early.
Motioning outside, he walked out, picking up another box.
"Hailee, honey, would you please stay here and wait for mommy and Tim to get the boxes inside?" you asked of her, motioning at the toys. She nodded, sitting down on a blanket and grabbing a few of her barbies.
Nodding to yourself you walked outside, as Tim met you halfway, box in hand.
It took an hour for you to bring all of the boxes inside, but when you were done you sighed in relief.
"Thank you so much." you thanked Tim, handing him a beer. "I wish I could invite you for a dinner as a thanks, but my kitchen isn't ready for cooking yet, so more than takeout isn't possible for tonight."
"Oh, don't worry, me and my girlfriend are going out for dinner tonight." he responded, smiling as he sipped his beer.
His girlfriend.
Damn, you should have known that a man this handsome would be in a relationship.
Keeping a straight face, you nodded. "Well then, even better." you told him, smiling.
When he was gone you and your daughter decided what to eat. "What about chicken nuggets?" you asked, watching her, as she drew flowers.
"And fries?" Her eyes lit up, as she looked at you, hopefully. "Fries and nuggets for the lady it is, then." you told her, smiling. She cheered, eating a blueberry, before she continued drawing.
_____
It had been a month, since you and Hailee moved into the house.
The boxes had been unpacked and the house looked finished. You had seen Tim a few times, had talked to him and met his girlfriend Ashley.
She seemed nice.
Your new job had already begun, and Hailee was at the kindergarden. It seemed all good, letting you breathe more freely, since you moved states.
Tim seemed hesitant whenever Hailee was near, like he was afraid she could disturb his peace, the quietness that convinced you to move to this street.
You had just been grocery shopping, Hailee was playing with a stuffed animal you had bought for her, whilst you were unloading the car, when Tims truck parked in his driveway.
He got out, slinging his backpack over his shoulder, as he saw you. Coming over, he greeted you. "Hey." you gave back, heart pumping a little faster.
Even though he was in a relationship, that didn't mean that he wasn't handsome.
His eyes briefly wandered to Hailee, who was playing with the stuffed animal, making sounds to emphasize it. He bit his cheek, not seeming convinced that she wouldn't start shouting any second.
Clearing your throat you averted his attention back to you. "How is Ashley?" you asked, smiling. He stiffened, biting his cheek, but he tried to cover it up. "Oh, she's doing great." he lied, wearing a tight lipped smile.
Biting your lip, you nodded. You weren't bad at profiling people, but you could've still been wrong about it.
"How was work?" he wanted to know, adjusting his backpack. "Oh, it was great." you told him, nodding with a smile. "The coworkers are very nice, I think I'll stay."
He nodded, and you made a little more smalltalk, before you realized that you had groceries that needed to be cooled.
Apologizing, you said goodbye, before you and Hailee went inside. You looked back over your shoulder, seeing as he did the same. He waved goodbye, and you did the same, before closing the door.
"Mommy?" Hailee asked, sitting down on the couch as you began to unpack the paperbags. You hummed, signalling for her to continue. "Why did Tim lie to you?"
Eyes widening, you halted for a second, before you continued to pack the grocieries into the fridge.
"What makes you think that he lied?" you wanted to know, surprised about her even noticing. "He..." she paused, searching for the right words. "He seemed like he didn't like your question."
Huffing to yourself, you smiled. She clearly came after you.
"You know, honey, sometimes people don't like to talk about their private life." you told her, continuing to unpack some fruits. "If he doesn't want to talk about breaking up with his girlfriend, than that's okay."
"But mommy, you told me not to lie." she gave back, brows furrowing. "Lying is bad."
You nodded, walking over to her with a small juice box with a tiger on it. Handing her the box, you sat down beside her. "That's right." you agreed, as she took the box and opened it. "But some things are private. And maybe he's just too hurt right now, to talk about it."
Drinking the juice, she nodded. "Okay." she spoke, after putting the juice down on the coffee table. "Can I have some cookies?" Laughing, you shook your head. "No, honey, we'll cook now - cookies later."
_____
The next day was your day off. Hailee stayed at home as well, so you could spend some time with her.
You were baking, Hailee helping with the batter. Going through the list of things you needed for the batter, you noticed, that you didn't buy milk.
"Damn it." you mumbled, biting your lip. "Dam-" Hailee wanted to mimick you, but you shut her up, your hand over her mouth as you sent her a pointed look.
She grinned, causing you to shake your head, a smile on your lips, as you let go of her.
You had real luck with her. She was a calm kid, one that wasn't stubborn or petulant - only in the right ways.
Not like her father.
Contemplating where to get milk from without driving to the next store, you bit your lip.
You could go to Tim and ask him.
"Hailee, what do you say if we ask Tim for some milk?" you asked your daughter, whose eyes lit up at the mention of him. She seemed to have grown a liking to him.
"Okay." you mumbled, helping her down from the kitchen aisle. She ran forward and to the front door, before you stopped her. "Do you really want to go to Tim with your Frozen slippers?" you asked, cocking a brow.
She blushed, giggling. "Do you think he likes Elsa, too?" she wanted to know, eyes sparkling. Chuckling, you kneeled down to help her into her boots.
"I bet he loves her, just as much as you do." you told her, smiling. Giggling again, she slipped into the boots, the little lights on them flashing in multiple colors.
Opening the door, she ran foward. Luckily Tims house was next to yours, so you didn't have to worry about her running out on the street.
Picking her up, you helped her to ring the doorbell. It took a few seconds, in which you sat her down again, for Tim to open the door.
His eyes widened slightly, as he saw you. "Hi." you greeted, blushing a little. "Hey." he returned, eyes narrowing. "We're sorry to interrupt, but we wanted to bake and I forgot to buy milk." you explained, sending him a crooked smile, as you wrung your hands nervously.
"Do you happen to have some spare, that we can borrow?" His brows rose, one corner of his mouth turning upwards. "Borrow?"
Biting your lip, you chuckled. "Yeah, with the intention to buy a new one." you explained. He huffed in amusement, before he nodded. "Sure, just give me a second." he told you, before he disappeared back into the house.
A few seconds later, he returned, handing you the milk. You shrinked back, flinching, before you reminded yourself that he didn't want to cause you any harm.
His mouth slightly opened, as his arm sank down a little, brows furrowing. Taking the milk from him, you breathed in deeply, trying to cover your reaction up. "Thank you." you nodded, forcing yourself to smile. "I'm gonna go grocery shopping tomorrow, then I'll get you a new one."
He nodded as well, still a little confused from your reaction.
When he was about to say goodbye, Hailee spoke up, holding up the new stuffed animal. "This is mr. Bubbles." she told him. You hadn't noticed her bringing it along.
It was an elefant in the shape of a teacup. She had instantly loved it, after discovering it at the kids section.
Tim looked at you, like he was looking for help. Motioning at your daughter with your head, you smiled a little. He looked down at her, inspecting the toy.
"Cool." he told her, forcing himself to smile. "Looks... interesting." She giggled, not noticing his discomfort. But you did. Swallowing, your hand found her back. "Say bye to Tim." you told her. "Bye Tim!" she shouted, already running towards your front door.
Clearing your throat, you nodded at him. "See you." He nodded in return. "Yeah, see you."
Sighing on your way back, you swallowed.
He clearly wasn't fond of the idea of a child next door.
_____
When the pie and muffins were done, you sighed.
Your kitchen looked like shit.
Starting to clean up, your daughter came up to you, chewing on a muffin. "Do you think Tim would like some muffins?" she wanted to know, batting her lashes.
Licking your lip, you knew exactly what she tried to do.
But the amount of muffins you had baked, convinced you to say yes - right after her hopeful eyes.
Nodding, you started to pack some muffins into a box. "I bet he'll like a few muffins." you agreed, smiling encouragingly down at her. She jumped in excitement, waiting for you to put the muffins into the box.
"Do you want to give him the muffins?" you asked your daughter. She nodded, smiling brightly, as you handed her the box.
Humming to herself she walked to the front door, slipping into her boots, as she patiently waited for you to follow.
When you were both ready, you left the house, walking over to Tims. Ringing the doorbell, you waited for him. When he opened the door, Hailee was the first to speak.
"Hi Tim, I have muffins for you!"
His brows rose, mouth agape. Swallowing, he licked his lips, crouching down to get a better look at the box in Hailee's hands.
You were surprised that he did so, after he was so hesitant towards her before.
"We want to cheer you up!" Hailee told him, smiling brightly. Tims gaze wandered towards you, brow cocked in a silent question, but Hailee was faster than you.
"Mommy said that you broke up with your girlfriend." she explained, causing his eyes to harden. Your mouth opened, but you kept silent. "When I'm said, I ask my mommy to have some sweets. So I thought, you could use some as well, so you wouldn't be sad anymore."
He nodded slowly, biting on the inside of his lip.
God damn it. Kids and their fast mouths.
"Thank you, Hailee." he told her, smiling at her, as he took the box from her hands. Then he stood back up, gaze fixed on you. "Listen-" you started, but he cut you off. "Thanks for the muffins." he told you, before he went back inside his house, closing the door.
"Mommy?" Hailee tried to gather your attention, tugging at your sleeve as your gaze was glued to the door. "Did I do something wrong?"
Looking at your daughter, you knelt in front of her. "No, honey, you did nothing wrong." you told her, stroking her arms lovingly. "He just didn't know, that we know about him breaking up with Ashley."
Her eyes went wide. "I'm so sorry!" she apologized, eyes watering. Hugging her, you stroked her back. "Don't be, precious. It's all fine." "Is he angry with me now?" she cried, causing your heart to ache.
The last time she said these words, her father had yelled at her for letting a cup of water drop to the floor.
It was the last time she had seen him.
Sighing to yourself, you picked her up. One of the curtains moved, as you walked past them and back to your house.
Did he see Hailee cry?
Shaking your head, you stepped inside, closing the door, before setting Hailee down to remove her shoes.
"Are you angry at me?"
Your brows furrowed at her question, as you shook your head. "No!" you told her, brushing some hair out of her face. "I'm not angry at you, honey. You did nothing wrong. But, next time, I would be grateful if something like this stays between us, okay? I'm not angry, Hailee."
She looked up at you with big, round eyes, sticking out her pinky towards you. "Pinky promise?" she asked and you nodded, as your pinky curled around hers. "Pinky promise."
_____
A few days later, the box you had brought Tim sat on your porch, cleaned and emptied.
Hailee was at the kindergarden, as you came home. Your work ended earliy, so you had some spare time until you had to pick her up.
Taking the box, you wanted to open the door, as someone cleared their throat behind you. You flinched, instantly trying to shield yourself, as you turned around.
It was Tim.
Letting go of the breath you had held in, your heart hammered in your chest.
"Hi." you said out of breath, as his brows furrowed in worry. "Are you okay?" he asked, licking his bottom lip. Nodding, you adjusted your bag, as it slid down your shoulder.
"Everythings fine." you assured him, swallowing. "Just easy to startle, thats all." He nodded, before he cleared his throat. "Listen, I appreciate the muffins - I really do -, but my love life is something I'd like to keep private." he explained. "Yes, Ashley and I broke up, but thats my business, not yours."
Your cheeks reddened, growing hot.
"I'm sorry." you apologized, fumbling with the strap of your bag. "My daughter - she was just curious, she thought that you might have not been honest when I asked about Ashley. I know that its not my business, really. I just told her that you might not want to talk about it, and that she shouldn't worry about it. I didn't think much of it."
He took a deep breath and you flinched again - you just couldn't help it.
"Is really everything okay?" he asked. You knew it wasn't what he initially wanted to say. "Mhm." you made, biting your lip. He didn't seem convinced, but he didn't press further.
"Its okay, I just wanted to make clear that its my business." he spoke instead, sending you a crooked smile that was surely meant to lighten the mood a little.
Nodding, you agreed. "Yeah, I totally get that. Won't happen again." He nodded as well, a light smile gracing his lips. "Okay, thanks for the muffins again." he said, taking a few steps backwards. "They were great." With that he turned, walking to his truck.
Only then did you notice the backpack resting on his back, indicating that he was off to work. You didn't know what he worked as, but it seemed to be in shifts.
Getting inside, you breathed in deeply.
He seemed reserved, but he was nice enough.
_____
A week later, you and Hailee were at a BBQ hosted by one of your neighbors. You couldn't help but look out for Tim, waiting for him to appear.
The atmosphere was nice, the people were all friendly and open. Hailee was playing with a few kids around her age, as you were sipping some coke.
The food was almost ready and you slowly lost hope that he'd still come.
The fire crackled, heating up, as it suddenly banged, something inside it most likely having caused a reaction.
You flinched, shrinking together almost unnoticably, as you frantically looked for Hailee. Finding her, still playing chase with the other kids, you breathed a sigh of relief, slowly calming down.
But, as one of your neighbors - Jeff - pushed another - Henry -, they started to fight. Walking over to Hailee, taking her by the hand, you made sure to be out of harms way, as the men punched at each other.
When no one was able to stop them, Monica, the wife of Henry, called the police.
It took them only a few minutes, in which Henry knocked Jeff out, to arrive. When they entered the garden, you couldn't believe, who it was.
Tim.
"Mommy!" Hailee whisper-yelled. "Its Tim!" You nodded, somehow flooded with relief. He was a cop. He was one of the safest neighbors you could have.
Tim and the other officer, a young woman, took a few statements, as you others waited. When they were done, Hailee let go of your hand and before you could have stopped her, she was on her way towards Tim.
You followed her, sighing.
"Hi Tim!" she greeted him, smiling up at him. He blinked a few times in confusion, before he smiled, kneeling down in front of her. "Hey Hailee." he greeted her, before his eyes landed on you.
"Hi, sorry for that." you apologized, blushing. "I couldn't stop her. I think she's excited that you're a cop." He smiled, huffing quietly. "Don't worry." he told you, as you greeted the other officer - officer Chen.
"It was all fine, until that douchebag-" you cut yourself off, as you squinted your eyes. "Until Jeff pushed Henry." you corrected yourself, sending Hailee a warning look not to repeat what you accidentally said.
"Don't worry, we have them under control now." officer Chen told you, smiling slightly at Hailee, who seemed far more excited to see a cop, than some others would have been.
You nodded, thanking her, as Hailee started to ask Tim questions about the various things clipped to his belt. He chuckled at her curiosity, explaining what the things were.
You huffed to yourself, a little confused.
She seemed to have him wrapped around her little fingers, after all.
That would surely get interesting.
_____
A few days had passed since the BBQ, leaving you to think more and more about Seargent Bradford.
You had learned that he was a Sergeant, working for the LAPD. That explained the shifts.
You were currently trying to fix a light, that bothered you for quiet some time now. Sometimes it would work, sometimes not.
Even though you were afraid of heights, you had climbed up the old ladder that you found in your basement, having your fingers crossed that it wouldn't shatter under your weight.
Hailee was sat in the living room, playing with her dolls, as you tried to reach the lightbulb. Taking a shaky breath, you stretched a little further, as you suddenly slipped.
Losing your balance you fell, your head hitting the ground rather hard. Your sight blurred, as you heard your daughter call out for you.
She seemed to panick and you wanted to tell her that you would be alright, but you couldn't, as suddenly, the lights went out.
"Tim!" Hailee called, crying as she frantically kocked on his door. "Tim!"
The door opened, revealing Tim who looked down at the little girl with worry in his eyes, it only intensifying at her tear stained face.
"Whats wrong?" he wanted to know, crouching down. "M-My mommy!" she called out, sobbing. "Its my mommy!"
As fast as he could he picked her up, running towards the open front door of her house. Cursing at himself for not bringing his weapon, he slowly inched forward and into the living room, where her mother lay unconcious.
"Fuck!" he breathed out, setting Hailee down and calling an ambulance, before he approached her mother.
"Y/N?" you heard someone call out your name, luring you back into conciousness. "Y/N!"
Your eyes slowly opened, trying to make sense of the blur you saw. "Hey, what happened?" the person who called out your name wanted to know. Its silhouette came into view and your eyes widened, as you sat up and inched backwards.
"No, no, no, no!" you breathed out, as the person followed you, before your back hit the wall. "No!" you shouted, as he wanted to grab you, shielding your face with your hands.
"Why are you here?" you wanted to know, as tears made their way out of your eyes. "You should be in jail, Robert!"
He halted, you could sense it. "What?" he said, sounding confused. "Who's Robert?" He must have been messing with you, after all you were sure it was him you were seeing.
"Go away!" you yelled, crying as your thoughts were with your daughter. "Where is Hailee?" "She's here, sitting on the couch." he told you, crouching down in front of you, as he carefully grabbed your hands, removing them from your face.
"It's me, Tim." he explained, as your view slowly got clearer. "What?" you breathed, searching his face for any indication that it wasn't Tim. But you found none.
"What happened?" you wanted to know, as you heard sirens. "Hailee came over, calling out for me." he explained, swallowing, as his gaze never left yours. "She said it's her mommy, so I grabbed her and went looking. You were unconscious. I assume you fell down the ladder?"
Looking over at the ladder, you flinched. Your head exploded.
"Don't move your head too much." he advised, as paramedics entered the room. "You might have a concussion."
The paramedics asked what happened and Tim explained, saying that you were unconscious when he found you, that you had fallen off the ladder.
They put you on a stretcher, securing your head and neck.
"Wait," you told them, eyes widening. "What about my daughter?" The paramedics looked at each other, as Tim spoke up. "We'll drive after you to the hospital." he assured you. "Okay, thank you."
He nodded, before you were brought to the ambulance.
_____
Once you were checked, the doctor, Dr. Sierra, told you the results.
"You have a concussion, miss Y/L/N." she said, reading through the papers she held in hand. Tim and Hailee were at your side, your daughter sitting on your bed.
"We made a scan to see if you have other injuries and requested the data from the hospital in Ohio, which you used to visit rather often, as I see." the doctor continiued, and you swallowed.
Your cheeks got warmer, as she closed the chart.
"There were multiple traumata, broken bones and other injuries." she explained what you already knew. Glancing at Tim she sent you a silent question, but you shook your head.
"No, he's in jail." you explained quietly, fumbling with the bedsheet. The doctor nodded, seemingly relieved.
"You can go in the morning, if your condition stays good." she explained, before she bid you goodbye.
The room grew silent, the only noise being the bedsheets you fisted rather aggressively.
You sensed that Tim had questions; he wanted to know what happened and more importantly, why you were so scared of him at first.
Sighing, you contemplated where your daughter was supposed to stay the night. She couldn't sleep at the hospital, they wouldn't allow it.
Swallowing, you looked at Tim.
"Can I ask you something?" you wanted to know quietly, brushing through your daughters hair absentmindedly. "Sure." he gave back, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees.
"You don't have to say yes of course..." you started, looking away for a split second. "But, can Hailee stay at your place tonight?" You prayed he would say yes, otherwise you didn't know where else she could stay at.
He nodded, as he bit his cheek.
"Of course." he said. "Where else should she go, when she could cuddle with Kojo?" He smiled, one that made your heart flutter despite the headache that was killing you.
"Thank you, Tim." you returned sincerely, smiling back through the pain. He nodded, before he brushed over his chin, thinking about something. You patiently waited for him, as Hailee played a game on your phone.
It wasn't the best way to keep her occupied, but right now it had to do, especially if it meant she was distracted enough to not listen to you two.
"I don't know what happened back then, but maybe you want to talk to me about it tomorrow?" he offered, sincerity in his eyes. "Or whenever you feel ready."
He was right. He deserved to know.
You nodded, flinching at the pain that shot through your head at the movement. He nodded in return, before he stood. "Hailee, what do you think about ice cream and nuggets?" he wanted to know, looking down at her.
She looked at you, unsure, but you smiled at her.
"Go with Tim, honey." you told her, hugging her. "He'll look after you tonight, whilst mommy stays at the hospital. You can trust him."
She nodded, kissing your cheek and you did the same. "I love you, buttercup." you told her, causing her to smile. "I love you too, mommy."
Tim picked her up, deciding to carry her to the car, as you handed him your keys.
"She's gonna sleep when you're at the car." you whispered, and he nodded, grinning. "I know." he mouthed back, before he said goodbye.
Your daughter waved over his shoulder at you, and you waved back, smiling at her.
_____
The next morning, Tim came with Hailee to pick you up.
Your daughter was excited, jumping into your arms after not having seen you for a couple hours. You hugged her tightly, making her giggle as you tickled her.
Tim smiled, he seemed to be in a good mood.
Not grumpy anymore.
The doctor had dismissed you earlier, right before Tim and Hailee arrived.
When you left the room, walking into the waiting area, you were greeted by two officers. "Sergeant Bradford." one of them greeted him, a man that seemed around his forties.
"Nolan." Tim returned, nodding at him, before he looked at the woman beside him. "Juarez." She nodded in return, greeting him as well, before her gaze landed on you and Hailee, eyes widening.
"Oh, is this your girlfriend?" she asked curiously, but still a little hesitant. Your mouth opened, eyes widening as well.
Why was it so hard for you to respond, suddenly?
Clearing his throat, Tim looked at you, before he looked back at officer Juarez. "No, but she's a friend." he told her. "What are you doing here?"
Officer Nolan seemed hesitant, before he answered Tims question. "We have arrested a robber, but he fell, and we just wanted to make sure, that he's okay, before we bring him in."
Tim nodded, but you were sure there was more behind the story.
He motioned towards the exit, and you nodded. "Was nice to meet you." you told the officers, before you followed Tim out of the hospital and towards his truck.
When you arrived home, you weren't sure how to thank Tim for looking after Hailee, whilst you were at the hospital. Should you invite him for dinner?
Getting out of the truck, you helped Hailee to get out as well. Your head still hurt a little, but it was already better than hours ago, thanks to the painkillers they gave you at the hospital.
"I have a few days off from work, so I can help you with a few things." Tim spoke up, when you and your daughter rounded the truck and came to a stop beside him.
Mouth agape, you looked at him in shock.
"You don't need to do that." you told him, still grateful, but he shook his head. "I want to. Your concussion isn't gone after a day, and you need to rest or otherwise it could get even worse."
Biting your lip, you nodded carefully.
"Thank you, Tim" you gave back. "I really mean it." He smiled slightly, walking towards your front door and you followed him with Hailee by your side.
"You can thank me by getting well."
_____
A few days had gone by, in which Tim had helped you with a few things. He played with Hailee, so you could take a nap or a bath, or would help to cook, so you wouldn't overstrain yourself.
He was different than before.
His grumpiness was all gone, replaced by a person as sweet as the muffins you and Hailee had baked together.
You weren't sure how he got to take these days off from work, but you were grateful for it. One time he was called to the station, because of an emergency that had occurred, but he came straight back afterwards.
You had gotten to learn a few things about him during the days you had spent together, about his past and the things he had seen in his life.
Deciding to make pizza, you made the dough with him helping you, kneading it with his big and strong hands.
Hailee had fallen asleep on the couch, exhausted from playing with him. She only had fallen more for him during the last few days. She really liked him, and so did you, you had to admit.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Tim asked, looking up from the dough.
You knew what he meant, still you had a lump in your throat at the thought of it. Biting your lip, you nodded. He deserved to know, if not for saving you, then for his help during the last couple days.
"I married rather young." you began, licking your lip, as you wiped your hands on a towel. "I was dumb and naive, not having seen the obvious warning signs that came with Robert."
He nodded, as his suspicions about the name you had called him, after you hit your head, were proved true.
"He was abusive." you continued, eyes watering as you bit your lip to stop the tears that threatened to spill. "Even when I was pregnant with Hailee he didn't stop. He took drugs, drank a lot. He used me as his very own punching bag, letting out his anger on me."
You breathed in deeply, leaning against the kitchen counter, as he continued to knead the dough, still listening.
"Half a year ago, he got arrested. He sold drugs, but the cops caught him. When he was finally gone, I made sure to get the divorce through as fast as possible, before we moved here. He'll be in jail for twelve years."
His brows furrowed, as he paused.
"For selling drugs?" he asked, confused. Shaking your head, you swallowed. "Homicide." you breathed, clearing your throat as your eyes filled with tears again. "After he got arrested, they found out that he had killed someone only a few days prior."
He sighed, nodding as it made sense now.
"That's why you flinch, when there's loud noise or when someone gets too close." he concluded, setting the dough aside, wiping his hands clean on a towel.
You nodded, looking away for a split second, before you reminded yourself that you could trust him, looking back up.
"It's something I adapted after all these years with him."
You covered the dough up, so it could rise. It felt good, talking about it with him. Tim cleaned the countertop, before he put the cloth in the sink, drying his hands.
"Now you're safe." he told you, his eyes finding yours. "I promise. I'm gonna protect you and Hailee, as long as you let me." You nodded, cheeks heating up. You already felt safer than you had during the last years, all because of his presence.
“You have some flour on your cheek.” he told you, motioning towards it. You tried to remove it, but he shook his head. “Let me.” he mumbled, his thumb softly brushing over your cheek, removing the flour.
For the first time in years, you didn’t flinch at the contact.
His thumb rested on your cheek, as his breath fanned over your face, causing your heart to race dangerously fast. Slowly, he leaned closer, your noses brushing as you did the same.
Your lips softly made contact, his slowly moving against yours. You leaned more in his direction, deepening the kiss. His lips felt perfect, like they had been made to be kissed by yours.
His hands found their way to your hips, tugging you closer, as yours rested on his muscular chest. You knew that it was muscular, because you could feel it through the shirt he wore.
He softly guided your head back with his lips, deepening the kiss even more. His tongue brushed over your lip, asking for entrance.
You gladly granted it.
The kiss was soft, not demanding. His tongue brushed yours, fingers lightly digging into your hips.
Your hands went upwards, one finding his cheek, as the other stopped at his neck.
Only when you almost suffocated, did you break the kiss. It definitely was worth it.
He brushed a few strands of hair out of your face, his gaze finding yours. "What do you say," he started, hand resting on your cheek, sending a warmth through your body, that you hadn't felt in years. "if we go out for dinner?"
You smiled up at him, having a hard time to believe the luck you had. How could someone this perfect be interested in you?
"I'd love to go out for dinner with you, Tim." you told him, causing him to smile as well, before his lips connected with yours again.
It felt like he filled you with energy through his kisses. They caused something inside you to come alive again, only tearing apart as you suddenly heard your daughter behind you.
"Ew, mommy!"

Tim always knew that his little girl, himself, and Lucy would be in danger due to their job especially when the people got out that they put away wanted revenge. That is why he kept his private life and his work separate but only let the people he worked with know about his little girl, Y/N, because he knew they would protect her with their lives. He didn’t like when she had to be left alone, he always wanted someone with her at all times and for her to have her location on and of course Y/N got irritated about it but she understood and didn’t put up too much of a fight, she loved her dad.
It was a Friday evening and he and Lucy just gotten off, Saturday was meant for them to be off until Monday with Y/N but they had gotten news that they needed to go in to work that day, they weren’t happy about but did as they did what they were told. Now they just had to break the news to Y/N which wasn’t going to be easy because the 15-year-old cherished her time with her dad and, now, mom, on their off days. Both of them had just picked up their kid and were heading home, they decided to tell her over supper. She had just hopped into the car after putting her backpack in smiling at her parents. “Hey, Mom and Dad!” She exclaimed as she buckled herself in and once, she was Tim started to drive off.
“Hey, Baby Girl.” Tim said smiling at her through the review mirror and then quickly putting his eyes back on the road.
“Hey, Buttercup.” Lucy said actually being able to turn around and look at her. She had given the girl the nickname because she loved the movie The Princess Bride and Buttercup was one of her favorites and she also like Reese Peanut Buttercups.
“How was your day?” Tim asked still focusing on the road and she shrugged.
“It was ok. One of the seniors got arrested because he was caught harassing a teacher and was high.” She said and they were surprised.
“Wonder why we didn’t hear about it.” Lucy said having turned back around.
“School security arrested him.” She said like it was nothing and to her it probably was nothing due to her parents being cops. After a few minutes of driving and nothing more was talked about the topic of food came up.
“What do you want for supper?” Tim asked and she looked at him and thought about it.
“I’ve been wanting BBQ.” She spoke
“Make it or buy it?” He asked her.
“Make it. You make the best BBQ.” She said and Lucy nodded in agreement and he smirked.
“You got it. What do you want with it?” He asked
“Mac and cheese.” Lucy and Y/N said at the same time and Tim smirked it was a good thing that Lucy and his daughter had similar tastes. The were home and no time and they were getting out of the vehicle which was now parked in the garage and heading inside. Once they were in, they took off shoes and as Y/N was sitting her backpack down and was about to head upstairs her father stopped her.
“Do your homework so you’re not waiting until last minute.” He said knowing she had a habit of doing so.
“Fine.” She sighed in frustration and sat down to begin her homework which could be done in no time since she excelled in mostly all subjects. By the time dinner was ready her homework was done and they could eat. As they got their plates of homemade BBQ and homemade mac and cheese along with their drink choices they began eating and it was mostly quiet until Tim started to speak up.
“Lucy and I got called in to work tomorrow.” Tim said he and Lucy watched their daughter’s face go through so many emotions while he took a drink of his water.
“What?” She finally asked once it hit her.
“Oh, Buttercup. It’s only for Saturday and then you have us all day Sunday.” Lucy said and Y/N was not satisfied with that answer and they could tell by the quietness that she went into.
“Nolan is going to be with you.” Tim said and she nodded as if saying ‘ok’. They hated telling her bad news because she always seemed to get down but they had to tell her eventually. Tim and Lucy looked at each other but they continued on with dinner and when they tried to make small talk all they got were one worded or short answers. The only thing that made it better was that Nolan was going to be with her while they were working, she absolutely that man and maybe because it was that he was gentle and patient with her. When dinner was over, they put their plates in the dishwasher and then headed into the living where they always had a movie night after dinner, it had become a tradition, after changing into their pajamas. Y/N had fallen asleep with her head in her dad’s lap. When the movie was over Tim had picked her up and headed into her room and tucked her in and then giving her a kiss to her head “I love you, Baby Girl.” He said and then headed back out into the living room where he and Lucy watched an episode of a show they had started and then they were headed to bed.
Saturday rolled around and Tim and Lucy were up early preparing to go into work. After they both had showered and packed the doorbell rang and they knew it was Nolan and Tim went to answer it, as Lucy began to get their coffee ready. She was making Tim’s first because it would take longer because he wanted the coffee pot and her’s wouldn’t take long because it was in a Keurig, he swore he would never use one of those ever. “Hey, Nolan.” Tim greeted him and let him.
“Good morning, Tim.” He said and just about that time Y/N walked into the kitchen and smiled at everyone and greeted everyone. “Good morning, Lucy and Y/N.” He added.
“Good morning, Mom, Dad, and Uncle Nolan.” She said and hugged them all.
“Alright, we’re about to head out soon. You be good for him and Nolan,” Tim said turning towards him “don’t let her drag you into anything or let her trick you.” He said knowing that Nolan had a weak spot for the young girl and he nodded.
“Noted.” Nolan said
“There are leftovers in the fridge or feel free to go out.” Lucy said and Nolan and Y/N nodded. “Alright, Tim we got to go.” Lucy said looking at her watch and then hugging her daughter and kissing the side of her head as Tim nodded and did the same thing.
“We love you.” Tim said
“Love you too.” She said and they headed out after saying bye to Nolan. Once they were gone, they turned to each other.
“Movie day and then out for lunch?” Y/N asked him knowing the answer because that became their tradition as well.
“Absolutely.” He said and she smiled and they went into the living room and began their day. It was only 8 AM so they had some time before lunch. Breakfast consisted of junk food and some movies that had some bad acting especially the cop movies, which everyone liked to nick pick.
12 PM rolled around and Y/N and Nolan were headed to their favorite café that they liked to visit when they are together and well everyone’s favorite. As they pulled up, they were laughing and having a good time but something just didn’t feel right when they walked in but they decided to ignore it and continue on. They ordered and waited for their food and when it was ready, they went and sat outside wanting to enjoy the sunny day. The feeling of something bad happening slowly ebbed away as they talked and made jokes. It was nearing the end of lunch for them and both Nolan and Y/N were done and she had decided to take the trash up and then maybe she could get him to agree to get some ice cream and everyone’s favorite place. Just as Y/N had thrown away her garbage she heard her last name being shouted. “Yo, Bradford.” The voice shouted and she turned around smiling expecting to find one of her friends but it quickly went away when she didn’t recognize the person and gun was pointing at her “This is for my dad.” He said and before she could answer he pulled the trigger and everyone started shouting and then he took off running. Pain was what hit her first after the initial shock wore off and she made a face as her hands went towards her abdomen and she fell to her knees.
Nolan heard the shout and looked up from his phone and saw the scene and paled and then jumped into action and as he was heading towards them the distinct sound of a gunshot going off was heard and at first, he ducked but then kicked himself into gear. He pulled out his gun and was about to pull the trigger but he was already too far ahead and around other people. “Call 911.” Nolan said to someone and they nodded and then he was off to Y/N. “Hey, Y/N/N. You’re going to be ok.” He said and while covering her hands with his hands but she was losing blood fast and she wasn’t saying anything just staring at him and gasping for air. He was about to say something when he heard sirens and then footsteps behind him and he looked back behind him and saw Tim and Lucy coming over.
“Y/N?” Tim asked and knelt down next to them “What happened?” He asked Nolan as he took over pressure and that made his daughter cry out.
“She went to throw away the trash and I was answering some emails and texts when I heard a shout and looked up. The guy had a gun pointed at her and I jumped into the action but couldn’t get a shot off because he was already too far away.” Nolan explained but Tim didn’t say a word too worried about his daughter, he wasn’t mad at Nolan.
“Angela and Jackson are going after him now.” Lucy said and then Y/N started to cough and blood was starting to come out of her mouth and flow down her chin.
“Hey-stay with me.” Tim said when he noticed her eyes start to shut and breathing started to become irregular. There wasn’t an exit wound and that worried him. “I’ve got you, Baby Girl.” Tim started trying to keep it together but his voice was slowly cracking “Dad and mom are here.” He said knowing she would find comfort in that Lucy was there too. The ambulance rolled up and were quick to load her up and head to the hospital with everyone behind them.
When they got to the hospital Y/N was immediately rushed into surgery and now Tim, Lucy, and Nolan had to wait. Grey had heard and was immediately there as well along with Talia, even though she had moved to a different department Lucy was quick to let her know, Harper, who was quick to grow close to the girl because she reminded her of her child and would protect her at all cost and Nolan let her know, Angela, and Jackson. Wesley Evers even showed up after hearing the news from Angela since she was on the phone with him and he had to admit he cared for Y/N Bradford and she had grown close to him. “We caught the man. He was the son of someone that Tim had put away a few months ago and he somehow figured out she was your daughter. He wanted revenge. He’s going away for attempted murder.” Grey said and they nodded.
Grey had immediately let Tim and Lucy have the rest of the day off since it was their child in the hospital. Everyone else besides Nolan, Harper, and Wesley had to go back to work. Nobody talked while they waited Tim was just staring at his hands, his hands that were stained with his daughter’s blood something that he wished would never happen. He had tried to wash them off but it had worked only a little bit and the same went for Nolan.
4 hrs is how long they waited until a doctor was coming out. Wesley and Harper had gone to grab everything Tim, Lucy, Nolan, and Y/N needed from home. They tried to get Nolan to go home and rest but he refused to leave his niece behind. Grace Sawyer had been her doctor and her heart dropped when she saw it was Y/N that she was going to be working on, even though she had met the teenager a few times the two grew close, Grace saw them and walked over to the small group.
“Grace.” Tim said “How is she?” He asked and Grace smiled but it was a small one.
“It was touch and go and we almost lost her because of blood loss but she’s a little fighter.” She said and everyone nodded agreeing “The bullet entered her abdomen and then traveled and hit one of her lungs and collapsed it which was why her breathing was labored. We got all of the bullet out and fixed her lung. She’s in recovery and everyone can go an see her now Gino will be here nurse.” She said and they nodded. Gino and her had also become close after the short interactions they also became close but then again that was just how she was and nobody could resist her. “I’ll show you to her room.” She said and they followed her “She’ll be out of it for a while just so she’s not in as much pain and it was a pretty major surgery.” She added when they got there Gino was making sure everything was set to go and smiled and greeted everyone when they got there but was quick to leave so that they could have some time with her.
Everyone took a seat and they waited. Tim was sat the closest to holding her hand being careful of the IV. While Lucy beside him and Nolan on the other side. Nobody spoke and they only sound was the steady heartbeat coming from the heart monitor. They knew that she was going to be ok because she’s a Bradford and Bradford’s don’t let anything take them down even if it is a gunshot wound. She also had the best doctor and the best nurse on her side.

It had not been a goodnight in the Seresin household. You, Jake’s 6-year-old daughter, had not been sleeping through the night and Jake couldn’t figure out why. Almost on the hour, you would be getting out of bed and padding your way to your father’s room. There you would crawl into his bed and snuggle up with him and at first, he didn’t say anything just simply pick you up and take you back to bed and stay with you until you were asleep and then he would be going back to bed. It was like this for a week. It had been a Thursday night when you had crawled into his bed and he just let you stay there, you seemed the calmest when you were with him but still you would be waking up tossing and turning and waking him up in the process.
Friday morning rolled around and he was tiredly getting up to the sound of his alarm and getting ready before going to wake you up and get you ready for school. When it was time, he began the gentle wake up process that he had always done with you and each time it was success but not this time. He really needed the sleep because a new round of Top Gun cadets was rolling in and he needed to be on his A game. After the mission was completed successfully everyone was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and had been assigned a permeant station as The Dagger Squad under the command of Admiral Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell. “Sweetheart, it’s time to get up. We need to get you dressed and ready for school. I promise to get you whatever you want afterwards.” He said hating to go to bribery but he was desperate and it was really the last resort.
“You promise?” You asked him opening your eyes and rubbing them and he smiled a soft smile. He could see the bags under your eyes and they weren’t as bright as normal.
“I promise.” He said
“Chick-fil-A?” You asked tiredly and he hated that sound coming from you.
“Anything for you, Sweetheart.” He said and you nodded and then hugged him around the neck and then he picked you up and you both began the process of getting you ready. It didn’t take that long, thankfully.
“Will you do my hair?” You asked him and he nodded.
“How do you want it?” He asked standing behind you as you ate.
“French braid on the side and pulled back in a ponytail.” You said taking a bite of your waffle that he had made along with coffee and getting it ready to go while he was getting ready and letting you sleep.
“You got it.” He said and began his work by brushing your hair and then beginning to braid. It didn’t take long and he was done by the time you finished breakfast and then you both were out the door and into this truck. You had fallen asleep on the way to school and he allowed it just wanting you to get some sleep even if it were for 20 minutes. 20 minutes came by fast and he was waking you up once again and helping you out of the truck and walking you to the entrance of your elementary school. He bent down to your level as he put on your backpack. “Remember be good for your teachers and be nice to everyone. I’ll be back to pick you up after school.” He said and you nodded. Usually, he would have your babysitter pick you up but he decided he would due to wanting to be with you especially with you having little sleep, which sometimes messed with your mood.
“You got it, Daddy.” You said and he smiled and kissed you head as you hugged him and then your teacher was leading you as you both released each other. He and your teacher both said their greetings and then he was on his way to his truck and to work while ignoring all the mom’s staring.
Jake made it to his truck and got in he quickly sent a text to your babysitter letting her know what was up. Then started his 20-minute drive to base. He was lucky that he was able to get a house that was 20 minutes away from your school and 20 minutes away from the base. When he arrived and parked in an empty spot next to Bradley’s Bronco he got out and grabbed his stuff for the work day and started his trek inside while taking sips of his coffee every now and then. He sighed when he sat down in his chair when he got to his office. He closed his eyes for a minute before there was a knock on his door and he opened them to find Javy standing there. “You look like hell.” He said and Jake nodded.
“I feel like it. What’s up?” He asked
“Everyone is meeting in the rec room before classes start and while introductions are made. Figured you wanted to join.” Javy said
“Ok.” He said and got up while grabbing his thermos of coffee and they headed that way. They hardly talked while making their way to the room. When they got there everyone greeted them and they greeted them back.
“You look like hell.” Natasha said and Jake rolled his eyes.
“That’s what Javy said.” He said
“Everything ok?” Bob asked and Jake smiled sweetly at the WSO.
“Y/N hasn’t been sleeping well. Waking up on the hour. She’ll crawl into bed with me and then toss and turn which ends up waking me up.” Jake said taking another sip of his coffee. When they learned about you, they were shocked but it made sense as to why he wasn’t taking women home and drinking much. They were also shocked to learn that Jake had been married to a Naval Officer that was KIA and became a widower and he still wore his wedding ring. They had been married for 10 years and just right after you had turned 5, she had been deployed and then Jake was getting the notification that she had been KIA. He had been raising you for a year on his own and it hurt but he put on a brave face and powered through. You both still talk about her a lot and you both keep her memory alive. She was the female version of Jake.
“Do you know why?” Bradley asked and Jake shook his head.
“No idea.” He said and then Warlock was walking in ushering them to the classroom. Introductions were made and the training began. Jake was sluggish going out to the tarmac and Maverick took notice of this and pulled him aside.
“You ok?” Maverick asked as he walked next to the blonde hair usually cocky pilot.
“Not really.” He said and this worried the older pilot because usually he was full of himself.
“What’s up?” He asked
“Y/N hasn’t been sleeping the greatest and has been getting in bed with me and waking up on the hour. When she is in bed with me, she is tossing and turning waking me up. We’re just exhausted.” Jake said and Maverick felt sorry for him.
“Do you want to sit this round out? I’ll go up in replace of you.” He said and Jake nodded.
“That would be great thank you. Also, I need to leave early, I’m picking Y/N up instead of her babysitter.” He said and then turned around and headed back to his office to get caught up on some paperwork and maybe a little shut eye while he had his door closed. The time to leave to pick you up was quick to approach and he was booking it out of there. He barley said bye to his fellow team members and was on his way to get you and your Chick-fil-A. He arrived at the school and parked and went in to pick you up and then when he got back to his truck and buckled you in and then headed to Chick-fil-A and got your and his regular. When the both of you got home, he pulled his truck into the driveway and then killed the engine and got out and then you while grabbing your backpack and lunch box and the food. “Ok, Sweetheart. Let’s eat and then watch some TV.” He said and you nodded tiredly. He sat you down at the table and then you began eating supper was quiet and he could see that you wouldn’t last long. Once supper was done and trash was thrown away you both headed to get changed into more comfortable clothing and then headed to the living room where he opened Netflix and then you both settled on a kid appropriate movie. You snuggled up to him and he wrapped his arms around you. You made it through 3 movies and 20 minutes into the fourth movie you were out and it was 10 PM, he tended to let you stay up later when the weekend was approaching. Jake headed into your room and laid you down and tucked you. He turned on your F-18 nightlight and then kissed your head “I love you, Sweetheart.” He said and then walked out to watch some TV of his own.
Jake got an hour into his show when he heard whimpering, crying and then shouting. He was quick to pause the show and then rushing to your room from his to find you tossing and turning. He rushed to you and sat on your bed and took you in his arms “Shh, it’s okay. it was just a dream.” Jake said soothing until he had you waking up slowly with sniffles. “You’re ok. Want to tell me what it was about?” He asked in a soothing voice looking down at you.
“You went up in your jet and then something happened and you crashed and died with Uncle Bob and Aunt Natasha.” You said and Jake’s heart broke.
“Oh, Sweetheart. Nothing bad is going to happen. You know why?” He asked and you shook your head.
“Why?” You asked
“Because I’m the best of the best and your aunts, uncles, and I will always protect each other.” He said and smiled and hugged you tighter as you sniffled. “You think you can go back to sleep on your own or do you want to sleep with me?” He asked.
“You, Daddy.” You said
“Ok, Sweetheart. Let’s go.” He said and picked you up and you snuggled into him. He carried you to his room and sat you on the bed. He got in and you snuggled into him and once he felt your breathing even out, he resumed his show. After a while, he turned it off and then settled down to go to sleep. You both got a full night’s sleep and were well rested to started the weekend.

A/N 2: Goose is alive in this one.
Tumblr media
Your father Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell was married to Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw’s sister, your mother Nichole Bradshaw, they got together shortly after Goose introduced them to each other when he and Carole Bradshaw had dinner and invited both of them over. After 6 months of dating, they got married and then Carole and your mother got pregnant at the same time, Bradley was born a day before you. When you and Bradley were introduced to each other the two of you became friends fast and could go to one another when you needed someone and your parents weren’t available. You both became a brother and sister to each other, despite being cousins. You both were always with each other after school.
You and your mom have a great relationship. She was so fun and happy to do things with you even if they were ridiculous. She was basically the female version of Goose but then again, they were twins so it made sense. You and your father also have a great relationship. He matched your wild side and the two of you got into a lot of trouble with each other but you both would smile and take the punishment. Both of them were smart and that smartness carried on to you basically you were a perfect mixture of Mitchell and Bradshaw.
School and you never mixed well, always the new kid and never staying in one place to actually make friends, you had Bradley and that was the only true friend you had. You also didn’t like school because of all the jocks they had and they weren’t nice to anyone and if they were then there was something up and you had to watch your back. You were really smart which drew a lot of attention to you especially from the jocks, they had pressured you into doing their homework just so they could get good grades and so they didn’t get kicked off whatever team they were on. Bradley saw this happening and tried to help but you just pushed him away and he never once walked away from you. The jocks never became violent and you were thankful for that. You had promised Bradley to keep a secret and as much as he didn’t want to he agreed but he alway voiced his dislike for it.
You and Bradley were 16 years old now and just started Junior year. Your fathers had gotten a permanent position at Top Gun and were loving it. This had been the longest you both had been in a school. You both had made some friends but none of them were as close as you and Bradley. The pressure of doing the jocks homework had gotten worse and it was the senior jocks who were the ones doing it. Again they hadn’t gotten violent but you had turned a couple of them down especially when they wanted you to do an essay for them is when they started to become more forceful and you were getting scared and there was only so much that Bradley could do to protect you. When they got forceful you got scared and said you would do it.
It was a Thursday morning and you were dreading getting up and going to school but knew you had to and plus Bradley was going to be there so that made it all better. Your alarm had gone off and you just laid there thinking of all the possible things that could go wrong. You must’ve laid there for a while because your mother was coming into your room with a frown that said she was concerned. “Are you ok, honey?” She asked stepping you into the room and going to sit on your bed.
“Yea. Just don’t want to get up.” You told her looking at her with your blue eyes. She smiled and chuckled.
“We all have those days. Your dad made some breakfast and he set some to the side for you.” She said running a hand through your brunette hair, hair that was identical to your dad’s.
“I’ll be up in a minute.” You told her and she smiled and kissed your head and then got up and headed out of your room as you started your routine of getting ready for the day. You sighed knowing what the day was going to be like and you were not looking forward to it. It didn’t take you long to get ready and then you were heading downstairs into the kitchen where your dad was. He looked up and smiled.
“Good morning, Sunshine.” He said with a radiant smile that never failed to make you smile.
“Morning, Daddy.” You replied back to him and walked over to him and he kissed the side of your head and then he handed you your plate.
“Hurry up and eat. Your Aunt Carole will be here soon to take you and Bradley to school.” He said and you nodded as you sat down and began eating. You took your time eating and this made your parents worry, you weren’t their peppy little girl. They gave each other a look and had a silent conversation to talk to you later after school. There was a knock on the door and your mom went and opened it to reveal Carole, Bradley and Goose. They greeted each other and then they were walking into the kitchen as you were putting your plate away. You greeted them and when they noticed you weren’t the peppy little girl that they knew they frowned and grew concerned. Bradley gave you a look and you looked back at him and you both had a silent conversation.
“Alright guys! It’s time to go!” Carole said in her usual happy voice and you grabbed your backpack and kept your eyes down as you headed to the car with Bradley following when you both got outside leaving the adults inside, he stopped you and turned you around to face him.
“Are you ok?” He asked
“I have a feeling something bad is going to happen.” You said
“Maybe you need to stay home. Say you’re sick.” He said and you shook your head.
“I’m sure it’s nothing. Everything is going to be fine.” You said and he gave you a look that said that he didn’t believe you but didn’t get to say anything else because the adults walked out of the house. Goose and Maverick didn’t have to go in today due to the jets being grounded for routine maintenance. Carole, Bradley, your mom, and you got into Carole’s car and then the three of you were heading to school. When you arrived you, all bid your goodbyes and I love yous and then Bradley and yourself were heading into the school.
You expected to be hit with the football team but for some reason they weren’t around and you sighed in relief. Bradley and you had the same class schedule so it worked out that he was like a bodyguard to you and you both were ok with that and you both had the same friend group.
It was nearing lunch when you saw the team and you tensed up and Bradley saw this “Hey, Mitchell!” They yelled out and you hesitantly turned around to them.
“Brody.” You said with caution. He was the captain of the football team and had money so he thought nothing applied to him.
“I need you to write a paper for me for history.” He said and you looked at Bradley and he gave you a look that said ‘don’t let him do this to you’ and for once you listened.
“No.” You said and that surprised Brody but he quickly replaced it with anger.
“What do you mean no?” He asked stepping up to you but you held your ground.
“I mean no. I’m done doing your homework and essays for you. You can do them yourself.” You said no sure where this confidence came from but liking and Bradley was smiling.
“You don’t tell me no. You’re doing my essay.” He said pushing you into Bradley. He helped you steady yourself.
“She said no, Brody. She’s done being your puppet.” Bradley said, standing up for you.
“That’s not a decision for you to make. You need to tell your boyfriend to stay out of this.” Brody said, turning his attention to Bradley.
“He’s right. I’m done. Also, he is my cousin.” You told him and that made him turn to you quickly and you thought he was going to break his neck with how fast he turned. He grabbed you by the shoulders and pushed you into the lockers making you hit your head and see stars. Bradley was quick to rush to your aid.
“Like I said you don’t get to tell me no. I told you that there would be consequences if you told me or anyone else on the team no.” He said, you somehow found our voice.
“You’ve been bullying me into doing yours and the football team’s homework and I’m done.” You said and a flash of anger flashed across his face and he went to punch you but Bradley punched first and then it turned into a fist fight. It didn’t last long until a teacher came out and Brody came out with more injury than Bradley.
“What is going on?” Mr. Anders asked as he walked up to the action with Mrs. Slick.
“Nothing. He started it.” Brody said and Mr. Anders looked over at Bradley and raised an eyebrow.
“Is this true?” He asked and Bradley shook his head.
“No, Brody started it. He pushed Y/N into me first and then into the lockers and made her hit her head.” Bradley said and they looked over at you and you had visibly paled.
“Brody, principal's office.” Mr. Anders said.
“What?! Mr-” He started
“Now.” Mr. Anders said and he huffed and sulked off and then Bradley and Mr. Anders turned to you.
“Are you ok?” He asked but you didn’t say anything. Your ears were ringing and there was wetness on the back of your head. Your eyes rolled in the back of your head and you began to collapse as Bradley caught you and brought you down. “Woah.” Mr. Anders said and followed you down. A crowd was forming “Everyone get back to class now.” He said and everyone scurried away while another teacher Mrs. Slick came out on the phone with 911. The ambulance came and loaded you up and headed off to the hospital. They weren’t going to let Bradley ride with you but he was your cousin after all.

Maverick and Goose were sitting in the Mitchell household working on some projects that your mom wanted done when Maverick’s phone began to ring. He pulled it out and saw that it was your school calling and he frowned which caught Goose’s attention “Everything ok?” He asked and Maverick shrugged.
“The kid’s school is calling.” He said as he answered it.
“Hello?” He asked
“Admiral Mitchell, this is Miramar High School. I’m calling in regards to your daughter Y/N Mitchell.” Mrs. Fender said
“Is everything ok?” He asked
“I wish I was calling under better circumstances. Your daughter has hit her head on the lockers from being pushed. When asked if she was ok, she collapsed into Mr. Bradshaw’s arms. She is on her way to the hospital now.” She said and Maverick paled and thought he was going to collapse and Goose grew concerned.
“Thank you for calling. I’ll let her mother know and we’ll head there now.” He said
“Very well. Mr. Anders will be with her and Bradley.” She said “Goodbye.” She said.
“Goodbye.” Maverick said and they hung up.
“Everything ok, Mav?” Goose asked
“No, Y/N got hurt and is at the hospital with Bradley.” He said
“Is she ok?” Goose asked concerned for his niece.
“I don’t know but we gotta go. I’ll call Nichole on the way there.” Maverick said as they headed to the door and Goose grabbed the keys to The Bronco. Carole and Nichole were out having a girl’s day since they’re work had to be closed for a gas leak. They got into The Bronco and Maverick called his wife.

You had woken up confused and to the smell of medical cleaning supplies. At first you just looked around and then you saw your mom and dad there. “Mom? Dad?” You asked and they smiled sadly at you and got up from their chairs. They looked like they had been crying.
“Oh, Honey.” Your mom said and put a hand on your cheek and you leaned into the comforting touch.
“Bradley?” You asked and they smiled.
“Want them in here?” They asked and you slightly nodded but winced in pain.
“It’s ok baby.” Maverick said taking over when your mom left the room. A few minutes passed and The Bradshaw family was coming into your room. They carefully hugged you and you looked at Bradley who had his head down and you knew what he had done but you were ok with it you wanted them to know. “What happened?” Your dad asked and you sighed knowing they wanted to hear it from you.
“Brody, the captain of the football team, was bullying me into doing his homework and essays and I had enough and told him no and he got violent.” You said looking at them.
“How long has this been going on?” Carole asked
“Since we started high school.” You said “Bradley told me to stop but I didn’t listen.” You added tears escaping your eyes. Nobody said anything, they were mad but not at you.
“What grade is he in?” Goose asked and before you could answer Bradley did.
“He’s a senior and 18.” Bradley said and the look on your parent’s faces morphed into anger.
“He’s 18, practically an adult and he physically hurt a 16-year-old, a minor, might I add. He can get in trouble for this.” Your mom said.
“We’re pressing charges.” You dad added and you nodded in agreement “I’m never going to let him hurt you again.”
“I want him to get in trouble and charges pressed. I don’t want anyone else to end up like me.” You said and they nodded.
“We’ll do so when you get out of here.” Goose said and you shook your head.
“I want it done now.” You said looking at your mom and dad with your dad’s color eyes.
“Ok, baby. We’ll get an officer in here now.” Maverick said that is exactly what they did.
A few minutes later a doctor and a police officer came in and everything was taken down and recorded and then they were leaving saying that everything looked good and promising. They wanted to keep you overnight to make sure nothing was damaged. Bradley, Goose, and Carole left saying that they would be back after work and school the next day.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
True to their word they were at the hospital the next day after work and school. Bradley was smiling and you raised an eyebrow. Brody wasn’t there today and then your phone began to get notifications and you looked at it and smiled and your parents raised an eyebrow and you turned the phone to them as the first line of an article showed “Brody Links 18, son of wealthy multi business owner Marcus Links, arrested for harming and putting a minor 16 in the hospital.” and they smiled and Maverick walked over to you and hugged you.
“See, I said I'm never going to let him hurt you again.” You dad said and you smiled as tears of relief fell.
“Thank you, dad. I love you.” You said and hugged him back.
“I love you too.” He said kissing the top of your head as you buried your face into his chest. Everything was going to be ok now.
