Trying to endure the unpleasant characters of "Bakemonogatari"

After receiving numerous recommendations that I should check it out over the years, I've finally started watching "Bakemonogatarai."

It's... weird, for sure. Interesting at times, definitely. But the two focal characters thus far make the series so incredibly hard to watch.

This is Koyomi Araragi, who is evidently our primary protagonist. The most important thing you should know about him is that he will endure the worst verbal abuse imaginable while only BARELY ever bothering to push back even a smidge, to the point that he infuriates me. This bitch has ZERO self-respect. It might even be in the negatives.

Now, maybe something will change with him! After all, I'm only five episodes into the series! He has plenty of time to grow a spine and stand up for himself. But right now? He spends most of the series hanging around — and getting cruelly abused by — a girl named Hitagi Senjougahara.

Senjougahara seems to be our secondary lead. Araragai spends the first two episodes going out of his way to help her with some difficult problems, which makes her declare herself to be his "dear friend" immediately thereafter. However, in ALL FIVE episodes to date, Senjougahara just brutally abuses him. And it just makes him depressed. He doesn't fight back, he doesn't get upset or angry... he just gets really sad and hangs his head silently, ultimately agreeing with her horrible put-downs.

The dialogue in this show is seriously like this—

Senjougahara: You're a very dear friend to me, Araragi. I owe you a lot. It's sad that you're a disgusting little bitch baby, but I'll still repay my debt for your kindness regardless of how odious of a person you are.

Araragi: ...thank you.

Senjougahara: Seriously, I can't imagine having to touch anything you've ever touched. The thought is so abhorrent. And the thought of ever touching YOU? Christ. I could vomit.

Araragi: Yeah.

Senjougahara: You look like a pedophile with that greasy hair over your eyes, you know that? In fact, I bet you ARE one. You fuck little kids, don't you??

Araragi: Come on... I'm not like that.

Senjougahara: Shut your nasty, hideous excuse for a mouth. Don't try to deny it. I can tell you fuck little kids.

Araragi: ...okay....

Senjōgahara: You sickening child molester. Rapists are the lowest of the low, but you? You're lower than they are. You're more vile than a gremlin's shit-stained taint, Araragi.

Araragi: ...sorry. It's true.

Senjougahara: If I wasn't such a wonderful and forgiving friend to you, you wouldn't have anyone else breathing the same air you've spoiled with your repulsive, loathsome presence. You'd be all alone. Which is all you'll ever deserve, of course.

Araragi: .......of course.........

I get that Sejougahara is just a massive, miserable asshole. That's at least very consistently portrayed. The bigger problem to me is that Araragi will go out of his way to help literally anyone in need but will do NOTHING to stand up for himself with this asshole.

The worst part is that I think these two are supposed to be possible love interests??? I THINK she's supposed to be a thugdere or something. I hope that I'm either wrong about that or something RADICALLY changes, because right now I only want to see Araragi remove her from his life forever.

Which is pretty unlikely.

Man, even in the second story arc, Araragi could've just taken the incessant abuse he received from the newest character he met as adequate reason to leave her the hell alone, and WOW, that actually would've solved everything instantly!

Battleundere

Not to be confused with Undere.

A Battleundere is a dere type who dress like ancient/legendary (magical or mythological people) who battle/fight people when there's a war happening. But at the same time, they are lovestruck because of the -dere/lovey-dovey side.

Meaning

Battle in English means "war", "combat", "campaign", "engagement", etc, the "un" borrowed from undere in Japanese mean "yes" or "maybe", and deredere means "lovey- dovey".

Personality

Battleunderes are kind people but they are very heroic as well. They are considered as "gods" or "heroes". Why? Because they are legendary/ancient people. They don't fight violently like what a dorodere, yandere, thugdere, and other violent dere types do. They used their magical powers/weapons and battle people right away. They are similar to a undere because they always agree to everything.

If you are a undere or a battleundere, I suggest working on being assertive and setting and maintaining your boundaries especially whenever it comes to the one you love. I promise that they will still love and care about you even if you say no and set your boundaries. And if they don't then they're not worth having around. It is okay to see yes but you shouldn't constantly being the one giving in when it comes to a relationship. If you have a hard time saying no or asserting yourself or your boundaries makes it easier for people to take advantage of you and use you.

Also if someone does something (for example gets you drunk, or ties you up) or talks you into saying yes.... that's not giving consent. You're not saying yes on your own free will.

Guide to All Dere Types in Anime (Renewed)

I may as well do this again without editing and reblogging my own post this time so challenge accepted. Here in an academy of anime, I’ll teach you how some characters react to love with the dere types. Which dere are you and which dere is your favorite? Credit to The Dere Types Wiki for the information.

Tsundere

A tsundere refers to an outwardly violent character who "runs hot and cold", alternating between two distinct moods: tsuntsun (aloof or irritable) and deredere (lovestruck). There are 2 types of tsundere; tsundere type A (harsh is their default mood, they’re rude until someone triggers their sweet side) and tsundere type B (sweet is their default mood, they’re friendly in public but they act mean towards their love interest).

Yandere

They start out as nice and friendly, especially towards their love interest. That is until something or someone comes between them, then they become dark and obsessive over the one they love. Love makes them crazy, often violently so. They’re mentally destructive in nature through either over protectiveness, violence, brutality or all three combined.

Kuudere

Someone who is calm and collected on the outside, and they rarely panic. I believe there are 2 types of kuuderes; one who pretends to be emotionless, and one who’s actually emotionless. Either way, they turn out to be really caring - especially towards their love interest.

Dandere

A dandere character is one who is quiet and asocial, possibly to the point of coming across as emotionless at times, when they’re really just shy or afraid to talk. They will become talkative and sweet when alone with the right person.

Deredere

Derederes are extremely lovey-dovey, always chasing and fawning over the person they love. They're not ashamed and have no problems with public displays of affection. They don’t hide their feelings, and no matter what may happen, they quickly revert to their cheerful self.

Bakadere

Characters who are clumsy and stupid when it comes to expressing their love. They’re either oblivious to romance or don’t know how to express it. They are for the most part very innocent and sweet, but their stupidity outshines their other attributes.

Bodere

Boderes are usually shy around those they’re infatuated with, and get embarrassed easily. They don’t know how to handle their embarrassment and so they use their fists instead of their words, and lash out so they can hide their shyness. Though they don't necessarily have a harsh exterior otherwise, and may feel bad about their outbursts of violence.

Byoukidere

A byoukidere refers to a character who is usually very sweet and kind, but suffers from a physical disease, usually a fatal one. Due to this, they are weak and frail. They are very kind, helpful, and sweet in nature.

Darudere

Darudere characters would rather sit around and show no emotion towards anyone, including their love interest. They are nonchalant to those whom they love, but they do express emotions, they just usually show no interest in those who like them.

Dorodere

They appear sweet and lovable on the outside, but are twisted or disturbed on the inside for various reasons. They initially act lovey-dovey but their hidden deranged side can strike at any moment. They can also possess the mind of a yandere, except they don’t act on those thoughts.

Hajidere

A hajidere is someone who is nervous and embarrassed around their crush. They get so shy around their love interest that they blush and have trouble confessing their feelings. On some occasions, they might even faint from being so bashful. Nonetheless, they can be social and outgoing with their peers.

Himedere

A himedere is a female version of an oujidere. They act like a princess and want to be treated like royalty. They're often arrogant and overly dramatic. They will however, soften over time with their love interest.

Hinedere

A hinedere is someone who has cynical world views. They have a nihilistic view of the world and often see the worst rather than the best. Though cold-hearted and arrogant, their soft side is shown after their love interest breaks through.

Kamidere

This describes someone with a god complex. They are arrogant and proud, and aren’t afraid to speak their minds and show everyone how right they are. Their pride makes them highly arrogant, overconfident and stubborn. They think they should get special attention and priority, but will eventually become loving once their exterior is broken.

Kanedere

A kanedere refers to someone who is attracted to others with money or status. They’re the anime/manga equivalent of a gold digger, and they can be snobbish towards poor people. They only show affection and care towards people with money and how much money they have, but a true love can break their habit.

Kekkondere

A kekkondere is someone who wants to get married right away, despite having only just met. They immediately decide after they meet someone of interest that they're the right person for them, and begin planning their marriage.

Mayadere

A mayadere refers to a character who is often a dangerous antagonist of a series, but switches sides after falling in love with another character. However, they might remain deadly and unpredictable.

Megadere

A megadere is someone who is obsessed with their love interest. They’re like derederes but to the extreme. They fangirl/fanboy over their love interest whenever they can; sometimes to the point of stalking, and they might even steal their items. However, despite their obsessive nature, they will never commit violent acts or manipulate their love interest.

Nemuidere

A nemuidere refers to a character that spends much of his/her time sleeping. Nemuidere characters tend to be very lazy and laconic in nature but they can also be intelligent and artistic, if only they weren't such a sleepyhead. Unlike a darudere, they sometimes show interest towards the one they love. They can be motivated by their loved interest to become less sleepy.

Nyandere

A nyandere is a vague type of dere that's just cat-related. While they don't have to actually be a cat; they are picky, needy, and punctuate their sentences with a cute meow.

Oujidere

An oujidere is a male version of a himedere. They act like a prince and want to be treated like royalty. They're often arrogant and overly dramatic. They will however, soften over time with their love interest.

Oujodere

An oujodere (also spelled as oujoudere or ojoudere) is a "lady-like" type of character, who's prim and proper with a strict exterior. Unlike a himedere, an oujodere isn't arrogant nor bossy, and they don’t want to be treated like royalty. Despite that they often come from a wealthy family, they are sweet and kind. They’re basically a calmer and more mature version of a deredere.

Sadodere

They love to manipulate and toy with peoples emotions, more so if they're romantically or sexually interested in them. Sadodere characters are sadists who take pleasure in causing pain to people’s emotions. They are cruel by willing to cause pain to people without showing care or concern.

Shundere

A shundere is someone who is depressed without a specific reason. They might gradually open up, especially towards their love interest. They’re chronically depressed and they have a tendency to ignore and avoid others. However, not all shunderes show their chronic sadness, meaning their depression isn’t always obvious. They might open up slightly if they find the right one.

Teasedere

They are people who like to tease their love interest. They’re mischievous at heart and like to flirt. Inside, they care a lot for their loved one and so they simply tease as their way of showing their affection towards someone they like. They do not manipulate or want to cause pain, unlike a sadodere.

Thugdere

A thugdere is someone who often mistreats other people including their love interest, by physically or emotionally harming them. They’re delinquents with a love interest. Their cruel nature is often a way of hiding their sweet and loving side, since they believe their sweet side makes them look weak or foolish. They’re like tsunderes except they’re more of a criminal type.

Undere

These people agree with pretty much everything their crush regardless of their true feelings. They do this to get closer to their crush, and they don’t want to offend by saying no in fear of losing them. This may cause them to be taken advantage of since they do pretty much whatever their love wants.

Utsudere

Describes someone who is depressed, but unlike shunderes who are depressed from a start, theirs come with a specific reason; such as being bullied, abused, or their loved one dying. This would cause them to isolate themselves, worsening their mental state. But they might gradually open up in time when the right person shows up.

Yottadere

A yottadere is a character who is addicted to alcohol. They’re rarely seen without alcohol in their hands and so they’re often drunk. It is rare for them to be sober, but they might stop drinking if it means having their special someone.

1) Яндере (Yandere)Яндере (Yandere) - неуравновешенные персонажи, которые готовы пойти ради своей любви на всё. Их любовь заключается в одержимости человеком и в чрезмерной привязаности к нему. Когда все в порядке и любимому ничего не угрожает (угроза может заключаться и в новой подружке), то яндере ведут себя спокойно, мило и заботливо. Но как только их любви что-то угрожает, то они готовы пойти на всё: обман, кража, убийство или на что по хуже.Готова изменить себя, чтобы быть с любимым.Если персонаж связал свои узы с яндере, то просто так ему не отделаться, если он захочет ее бросить. 2) Цундере (Tsundere)Цундере (Tsundere) - персонажи, которые при встрече со своей любовью говорят, что испытывают отвращение и неприязнь к нему, но на самом деле это не так.Обычно в начале их показывают как холодных, эгоистичных, грубых и высокомерных персонажей. Но на протяжении всего аниме показывают и хорошие их стороны (естественно под воздействием их любви). На вид они милые, но ведут себя холодно по отношению к их любви. Могут даже побить любимого человека.Также любят называть любимого персонажа противным и надоедливым. Обычно довольно вспыльчивы. 3) Дандере (Dandere)Дандере (Dandere) - стеснительные и молчаливые персонажи.Дандере - социофоб, но хочет быть более коммуникальной. Первое время при разговоре со своей любовью, дандере немного стесняется, но потом становится милой и заботливой (не всегда такое случается). Но дандере тоже можно разозлить. Если ее разозлить, то она может выплеснуть все свои эмоции на человека, который ее разозлил. Последствия ее злости могут быть непредсказуемыми.Пример дандере (Хьюга Хината из «Наруто») 📷

4) Кудере (Kuudere)Кудере (Kuudere) - в отличии от дандере, кудере молчит не потому что стесняется, а потому что она хладнокровная и не показывает эмоции. Обычно кудере умные (но бывают исключения).Скрывают свои милые стороны и ведут себя холодно. Но если ей кто-то понравится, то она может немного приоткрыть своё сердце и показать милую сторону. После пару встреч (иногда и больше) кудере может открыть своё сердце любимому человеку.Пример кудере (Мисаки Мэй из «Иная») 📷

5) Дередере (Deredere)Дередере (Deredere) - очень милые и заботливые персонажи. Обычно такие персонажи добры и энергичны, но при этом еще и скромны. От них так и исходит свет. У них есть много счастья и они готовы делиться этим счастьем с остальными.Когда дередере персонаж влюбляется в кого-то, то, в отличие от цундере или яндере, они способны развить свои личностные характеристики отдельно от их предмета обожания.Пример дередере (Рицу Тайнака из «K-ON!») 📷

6) Цунтере (Tsuntere). Не путаем цундере и цунтере. Цунтере (Tsuntere) - такие же, как цундере, но более застенчивые. Если обычная цундере обладает таким жестким характером в начале, то цунтере показывают более застенчивыми. Цунтере также отличается от цундере тем, что не может долго устоять перед чарами своей любви и ее сердце быстро откроется возлюбленному.Пример цунтере (Аму Хинамори из «Чара-хранители») 📷

7) Бодере (Bodere)Бодере (Bodere) - можно сказать, что это стеснительный тип цундере. Они очень стеснительны и молчаливы. Но когда они не знают, как справиться со своей стеснительностью возле возлюбленного, то они используют кулаки. Можно сказать, что бодере - это цундере и дандере в одном.Пример бодере (Хиёри Ики из «Бездомный бог») 8) Бакадере (Bakadere)Бакадере (Bakadere) - это очень глупые и неуклюжие персонажи. Обычно такие персонажи ведут себя глупо и по детски.Когда дело касается любви, то они относятся к этому очень легкомысленно. Они не боясь показывают свои чувства. Также такие персонажи обычно сначала делают, а потом думают, хотя и думать они нормально не способны.Пример бакадере (Ёшико Ханабатакэ из «Дурочка») 📷

9) Бёкидере (Byoukidere)Бёкидере (Byoukidere) - персонаж, который сам по себе очень добрый, но страдает от физических заболеваний, чаще всего со смертельным исходом. Персонажи такого типа имеют только два исхода: либо они умирают, либо излечиваются от болезни с помощью чудесного лекарства (чаще всего, это лекарство приносит главный герой). 10) Дарудере (Darudere)Дарудере (Darudere) - ленивые персонажи, которым всегда скучно. Такие персонажи любят ничего не делать, и хотят, чтобы их оставили в покое. Если таким персонажам дашь свободное время, то они просто не будут что-то делать.Но если человек, которого любит дарудере попросит что-то сделать, то дарудере всё же пойдёт и сделает это, пусть и постоянно жалуясь на то, что ему не дают свободного времени, чтобы отдохнуть.Пример дарудере (Куро из «Сервамп»)📷

11) Хаджидере (Hajidere)Хаджидере (Hajidere) - персонажи, которые постоянно смущаются возле их любовного интереса и даже могут потерять сознание от смущённости. Такие персонажи общительные и добрые с остальными людьми, но когда дело касается любви, то они и слова сказать не могут от смущённости, могут просто убежать или потерять сознание.У них проблемы с признанием в любви, так что их любовный интерес должен сам сделать первый шаг, но хаджидере может также убежать или потерять сознание, не дав ответ.Пример хаджидере (Очако Урарака из «Моя геройская академия») 📷
