Thrush

Skywings are born completely covered down feathers to help insulate them as their 'flame' is still developing, of which they typically shed all their feathers as they reach maturity, leaving fully scaled adults. That being said it's not uncommon for adult skywings to be fully feathered. There have also been cases of a 'half n' half' skywing every now and then, partly feathered and partly scaled.

the redwing is a member of the thrush family found throughout europe and the paleartic; they are similar in appearance to other common thrushes like the fieldfare and the american robin. while the sexes are similar in appearance, males are much more vocal, and frequently sing; there is distinct variation in song based on the bird’s location, with populations in different locations learning different songs. the redwing is omnivorous; in warm months, they primarily feed on earthworms and insects, while in the colder months they feast on winter berries.

I like Skywings a lot actually. I think they were underutilized in the story. And then there is Flame. Poor, lovable Flame. One day I would like to write a more in-depth think piece on him, his character, and his role in the story. But not today, so here are some Skywings:
