slo's hot takes | dynamics
was talking with a friend a few days back and we talked about how we lean towards certain dynamics for certain characters. i couldn't really give an answer at the time of conversation but the more i thought about it, the more i realised i liked to explore these broad dynamics, and i do lean towards certain dynamics for certain characters.
complementary opposites (you lack something i have; i lack something you have)
surface opposites (we are opposites on the surface but upon learning more about the other the cause of our difference stems from the same issue)
peas in a pod (we understand each other fundamentally. not exactly mirrors but i know you as i know myself and vise versa).
characters i lean towards dynamic 1 are... thoma, chongyun, gorou, cyno, itto, lyney, venti.
characters i lean towards dynamic 2 are... freminet, heizou, kaeya, kaveh, xingqiu, xiao, wanderer.
characters i lean towards dynamic 3 are... albedo, bennett, tighnari (to some degree), razor, alhaitham.

# question: if you were given these 3 categories, which dynamic would you like to see your with your favourite character(s)? what about least favourite character(s) -- if applicable?

So many questions, of course you could just answer some of them:
What thoughts on Louis sucking a fan's finger could one have? I'm clueless.
I'm loving how visibly more and more relaxed and happy Louis is becoming on tour. Before the first few concerts, I had no clue in which direction it would go, e.g. his team interacting with the pride displays etc - did you expect it to play out like this? And how might it change Louis' marketing strategy from here?
All the gay men I'm friends with think Harry is gay/bi and they're making fun of the female fans who don't see it (I know it sounds mean). Nobody I've talked to sees it as queerbaiting, they're just having fun with Harry expressing himself and people not catching on. And they say that they'd enjoy him even if it turned out he wasn't queer because they don't see an element of baiting the queer community, only his straight female audience who believe Harry is queer. Loved your thoughts on Harry's closet btw!
Showing them a few videos of Louis causes only one reaction: 'He's very, very gay, no straight bone in his body.' Hearing his story makes everybody sad though because the (mostly 30-40 year old) gay men remember how hard it is to watch your own body language and voice when in public as a teen and can't imagine doing it on that scale for such a long time. Some say Louis hypothetically dating Harry would be punching above his weight, other say they'll believe it because a shared experience like theirs is unmatched.
Are the Taskmaster participants well known in the UK? Like B/C/D-list celebrities or only known by older people? I'm on the first season and google is not helpful figuring that out...Have a lovely, sunny weekend!
1. Exactly - I've no idea what possible takes there could be. It's not really surprising it's happening given how chaotic pit is.
2. I think it'll be hard to tell the impact of the tour on him, separate from his new found confidence and coherence after lockdown and leaving Syco. For me the really big question is whether he'd already finished his album or not before he started touring. If he hasn't then I think there's a lot more possibility for a wider range of impacts. We should be able to figure out by the date it's released whether he had a window or not.
3. & 4.That's interesting - I think it's important to understand that online queer discourse is definitely only a small part of the queer community - and there are other ways of looking about it. 5. I think anyone interested in British comedy would know almost everyone in the first five seasons, and have a good working knowledge of the comedy and personas of most of them.
After that they expanded out a little bit, both to increase diversity (it's really bad in the first few seasons) and because if you are using 5 of the UK's top comics twice a year, you might burn out of fuel. So they've had more comic actors, and comedy adjacent people. They've also started to have some people who are slightly earlier in their careers.
Taskmaster is comedians specifically though - rather than celebrities more generally - which is probably the important bit of contextual information.
