Advice and tips on how to make your character feel more genuine/real
- Pettiness and shallowness. Obviously it can manifest in different ways, but IRL everyone has at least one or two little things that they're a bit surface level and "Just because!" about. Be it clothes, how they do certain rituals, what color m&ms they prefer ect ect. It can be little details or even major characteristics, and depending on which (and what) they are, it can be really telling about the character! Plus, it just adds a little extra depth and fun. Some examples including but not limited to: Being fussy over getting their clothes wet or dirty, only preferring some items because they look good, insisting on doing some action or tradition exactly a certain way, disliking an aspect of a thing or a person because they just don't like it, and so on. Obviously the big worldview points like morality and beliefs are very important, but when you've figured those out, take a moment to think about the smaller, everyday things your character feels about the world around them. No matter how good or wise a person is, they'll still always have some little thing that they can't give some profound noble answer to. Use this to your advantage to explore your character's shortcomings or flaws!
(In the same vein, Pet peeves is another detail that can flesh out a character!)
- How does your character perceive things? What do they notice about people first? How would they talk about, or describe another person to someone, if asked? How would they describe themself? And why? Just some things to consider. If your character maps out all the little details and deeply analyzes everything they see, it'll show in their interactions very differently than, for example, if they have the perception of a cabbage and are more oblivious than the love interest in a teen drama that the writers are stretching out for five seasons for no reason. Ykno.
- Additionally: what's their opinion of the people around them? Or if you've already mapped that out, what's their opinion of people they've never met before, or people who aren't in their immediate bubble, friends of friends, relatives of relatives, neighbours, or celebrities, mythical/historical figures and so on. Delve into hypotheticals sometimes, it can help you exercise your knowledge of the character. Even if none of these encounters or situations would happen in Canon.
- I'm sure you've already figured out what your character is most passionate about, ykno, whatever drives the story and impacts their relationships with other characters. But how about stuff they really don't care to think about? Just shrug? Not interesting? Doesn't pay attention to this? What is low on their priorities? It doesn't have to be negative (but can be!), it can just be "Meh", or something your character hasn't even noticed before, simply because it's not in their thoughtscape to think about.
- Does your character have any of those "What? I thought everyone did that/thought that/was like that!" - things? What do they take for granted, or weren't aware isn't a universal experience? Did they have a wildly different experience with something that most other characters hadn't even thought of? And yes I understand this is good for exploring trauma and other angsty things, but besides the obvious, think about maybe something that could be related to your character's species/living environment/abilities/opinions ect. This is great for exploring cultural differences, and anything that takes place in a fantasy setting. Very useful for villains and heroes alike! It's insightful. Everyone has small little perceptive differences or big and small thoughts that for some reason just haven't been properly challenged yet. Or brought up even. For whatever reason. Explore maybe what that reason could be, and figure out why it's been unchallenged for so long.
- Imperfections. Little divergences. It's fully possible to write a compelling and genuine feeling character using just archetypes, if you really explore them deeply. And whether you're doing that or not, think about the lines and molds you've set your character into, and let them spill out of them a little bit. Can be one huge aspect or one teensy detail, but make some diversion. Some crack in the picture. Doesn't have to be a flaw but can be! Just have some little aspects that set them apart and make the character themself. Get weird with it. Getting weird is one huge way you can truly make a character stand out and feel more unique and, oddly enough, genuine and real. Actual people have little oddities or things that don't line up with everything else about their person. And again it doesn't necessarily have to be anything big or shocking, in fact I'd argue it's even better if sometimes it's just a small, very ordinary, humanizing detail. Maybe unexpected, or maybe just something that doesn't factor into the surface image your character has. Think about characters similar to yours that you see often. What traits do they all share, or most usually have? Think about the kinds of people your character is inspired by. What are they often like? Make a diversion from that. Make multiple even? It can be the most random thing but think about it, even if you threw a dart at a wall of sticky notes, really chew out what this little thing says about your character. And focus on little cracks, imperfections, diversions and other odd details of your character. Over time they can grow bigger, or maybe not.
- Keep a clear picture of who your character is. Sounds obvious but I'll elaborate. Your character will obviously change and develop over the time you're working on them and whatever story events take place but I think it's very important to keep in mind who they fundamentally are. Basically I'm saying that try to keep them in character, yes even if you did drastic character development, you can still show that it's the same person in other ways even if one of their core traits was flipped. Be aware of what things will never change about your character no matter what they'd go through. Keep some consistency. Consistency matters alot in making a character seem genuine and, ykno, a good character. Even if that consistent trait is that they're inconsistent! The character can be that, yes, but as their creator, you should still keep sights of what's consistent for this character, you feel? If your character is a glunk of slime that slips out of it's container constantly and subsequently molds into whatever situation it gets put in, that's not really a character, that's.. Idk, plot device..? I know this may sound contradicting to my previous point but I fully think that, and this one can and should coexist.
You need to simultaneously be aware of the ways your character will differ from something and be fluid, and the ways your character will not bend, and cannot become. It's simply a matter of knowing their boundaries and restrictions, knowing which way they can lean and which way not. Obviously this'll be up to you as their creator, bc yeah you're allowed to drastically edit your character if you feel like it's for the better, but try to commit to that change then. Don't let the character slip from your hands, or let the story bend them into whatever shape it needs to make the plot go forward. Your character, and more importantly you, should be in control of that.
I emphasize the point of you controlling your character and not the other way around also. I've seen some character owners slip into "Well it's just what the character would do! I can't help it, it'd be out of character if they didn't do x!" even if the thing is completely awful, doesn't fit, or would ruin an aspect of the story. A smart writer will know how to work with your character's traits in a way that prevents them from running off the tracks and becoming their own little gremlin, while also complying with the story. Respect your character's.. Character, while also respecting yourself and the point of the story. This is even more crucial if it's a roleplay character, by the way..
I'm just saying, find ways to write the story in cooperation with your character. That means knowing what situations to avoid and which ones to steer for, in order to keep your character functioning with the plot and other characters. Sometimes you simply have to prevent some event from happening, or some characters from ever meeting, for the sole reason that it wouldn't make the story work the way it should. Or the way you want it to. You hold the pencil, be aware of what that means

would love to hear your thoughts on the team bullying/forgiving jamie in s2, in particular what you disliked about it. imo i think sam’s treatment was harsh but not at all undeserved, while others like colin and isaac were a bit twisted considering they fully participated in the prick-ish behaviour in s1. and the whole led tasso bit was entertaining to watch, but it really reveals how problematic ted’s hands-off approach to conflict can be. to the point where ted refuses to refer jamie (and later on isaac) to speak with sharon, and never fully acknowledge’s each player’s feelings.
There was a really good meta I saw on this topic the other day that i cannot for the life of me find in my tags to link here. But yeah, there are definitely things I disliked about it! For me it's less about the players than about the leadership & Ted. I actually think the players reactions/responses mostly make sense. It's a bit weird, like you said, that EVERYONE suddenly hates him when half the team was literally participating in and/or endorsing him in season 1 (remember that episode where the team is split into two factions and one of them is Jamie's? lol. Like it wasn't even just Isaac and Colin participating in the behavior, it was half the team). However I can see that their opinion of Jamie might have changed given distance and their own growth.
Also, we don't really see any instances of Jamie publicly bashing his old team apart from singling out Ted and Roy, but apparently at one point he was off calling Colin a jaundiced warm to his hometown newspaper, so yeah I can see why that might've left a lingering bad taste in his mouth. Also the boys have gotten used to Richmond without him at that point, and it HAS been a much better environment, so I think it'd be easy to overlook that they were actually sort of starting to like him at the bonfire the night before he went back to Manchester (which was ultimately only just one night), in favor of focusing on all the times he was made the locker room worse. Also, there's probably a bit of misplacing their hatred for their past selves onto Jamie because it's easier to shift that blame around a bit than accept their own culpability in the bullying. Just like it's easier to blame relegation on Jamie, because he's there to blame, then on their own shortcomings in the game. Is it a bit unfair to Jamie? Sure. But it's realistic and I don't mind it.
Actually the only one I'm a bit ??? about is Dani, because he was absolutely getting along with Jamie in Two Aces even despite Jamie's prickish exterior. Dani hadn't even been around long enough to be negatively impacted by Jamie's effect on the locker room culture so? what gives? I also don't see him bandwagoning on just because everyone else hates him (which does make sense when jan does it hahah). So it's very weird to me that he holds as much of a grudge as everyone else, lol.
The biggest issue for me is (once again. woop.) Ted. Because he didn't want to get rid of Jamie in the first place. He was in fact IRATE when Jamie was sent away, and got into his first real argument with Rebecca over it, that's how upset he was. So why is he soo hesitant, suddenly, to let Jamie come back? His whole speech to Jamie at the Crown & Anchor makes me uncomfortable, because the whole "You burned a lot of bridges" thing doesn't even add up to the real reason Jamie was sent away and totally dismisses the progress he had already started to make before leaving. It seems to reiterate that Jamie was sent away because he'd been Bad and Done Something Wrong. Sent away after he'd in fact had a significant breakthrough with the team. No wonder Jamie is confused. Ted is crossing all kinds of wires and it's ??? Not to mention that he tells Sam Jamie isn't coming back, then brings Jamie back seemingly without even pulling Sam aside and explaining to him circumstances have changed, Jamie is coming back, and why. It's one thing to have told Sam and then change your mind. It's another thing for Sam to tell you he's upset at you for withholding information, explain that's not the case, then go and do the thing you JUST assured Sam you wouldn't: not consult the team re: Jamie. Idk, the whole thing rubs me the wrong way.
Ted having a conversation with the team beforehand, explaining why Jamie is coming back, would've already gone a long way to help Jamie, instead of just springing him on them and throwing him to the wolves. Led Tasso was typical hands-off Ted problem solving, and it's a funny comedy show bit but not exactly an appropriate workplace solution, is it? I might not mind it so much if it wasn't the start of a pattern of behavior where Jamie needs help, asks for help, and then is like...ignored or gone around or "acknowledged" and not helped. it happens with his return to the team, it happens with Roy refusing to coach him, it happens with fucking Zava. And it's extremely annoying that the team leadership fails him specifically again and again. ugh.
Re: Sharon/therapy and referring the boys, that one is soooo mixed up in ted's own mental health stuff I'm willing to give it a pass. of course Ted's not to going to refer players to see her when he doesn't see what she does as helpful and doesn't respect therapy as a possible tool/solution.

SFW alphabet with Pluto (Nevermore)
Slight TW for childhood traumas and abusive parents :)
Tumblr media
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
I think that's not a secret for anyone : this boy is touch starved. His main way of showing affection is to hold your arm or your hand, to wrap his arms around you whenever he can. He's not really talkative, but if he likes you he'll try to speak a little more, and to appear more friendly (though he doesn't give you affectionate nicknames). He'll also try to spend more quality time with you.
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
There'll never be any friendship if you don't do the first step. And the second one. Maybe the third too. Basically, you'll have to spend your whole time annoying Pluto until he starts to get attached to you. Once he enjoys your presence, he'll still just looks like a very quiet and anxious boy, but he'll care more about you and your feelings than before. Maybe he'll spend more time with you willingly too, and make physical contact more frequently.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
If he likes to cuddle?? Is that even a real question?? Of course he does. Basically, he'll wrap his whole body around you and hold you close to him. If you lay your head on his chest and let him run his hand through your hair and on your back, he'll be in heaven. He doesn't say it but he also loves when you wrap him in your arms and let him curl up between them while you stroke his hair. Just, hold him. And let him hold you too. Just be cozy and relaxed with him for one second please.
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)
We all know that Pluto didn't grow up in a healthy environment. He really wants to build a loving and healthy home with you, but because he never knew anything else than his dad's "home", he'll definitely be scared to settle down at first. Because what if you two move together and suddenly you change completely and start hurting him ? Or worse: what if he hurts you because he has never known anything else than a home that wasn't hurtful ? However, if you help him go past his insecurities and you two move together, you'll definitely discover he can be really independent, to the point where you have to rush to do the chores before he can do them all, because he's just too used to do everything by himself. Sometimes while you're busy cleaning or doing laundry and he crosses your path, he'll just stop whatever he was doing to watch you with a light smile. It really makes his heart melt to see how much you're willing to help, to not let him do everything all by himself. He knows deep down it's all he has ever wanted.
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
Pluto is someone really empathetic and understanding, so if he has to break up with someone, it's really because they were being toxic or neglecting. It will take him a while to accept that his partner isn't good for him. He'll process it all for a good couple of weeks and start to get distant with them, before definitely breaking up. But if he really goes to this point, you can be sure there's no way for his ex to take him back. He's really fixed on his decision. However if they show disinterest even when he breaks up with them, he'll definitely feel heartbroken, realizing how much his ex didn't care about him.
F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)
Just like for moving together, I think Pluto's traumas would make him extremely nervous and insecure at the idea of committing. He just doesn't want to even risk being bounded with someone that might have a negative impact on him. He'll spend a lot of time considering the possibility, and analyzing every interaction you will have with him, just to figure out if you're good for him and if it's not risky. You will definitely catch him staring or glancing at you more than usual, while you do the randomest things, whether it is cooking, doing chores, working, relaxing or literally just zoning out, he'll be looking at you wondering "would I want this situation to last forever ? Would they stay the same if I married them ?". Even if you try to make him say what's happening, he'll keep this all to himself until he figured out an answer.
G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
This boy is extremely gentle. He always make sure you feel seen and listened to, and will always try his best to not hurt your feelings too much when he have to tell you something that might not please you. Same physically : he makes physical contact a lot, but unless he's anxious or stressed, he always makes sure to not hold you too tight.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
Pluto loves hugs. Like, he loves hugging you so much. He wants to hug you every chance he gets, and he's definitely a good huger. Bonus point if you're good at doing hugs too he will 100% wants you to hug him back all the time. Also, he's small but strong and his hugs are warm and tight, very relaxing, and you can just feel how much he loves you by the way he hugs you.
I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)
Please please please please please be patient with him on that. It will take Pluto a long time to say those words. And how could you blame him ?? The person that was supposed to love him, to take care of him and to protect him the most, abused him and probably killed him. Of course he's scared to say those words again to someone. He needs to be sure you'll never willingly hurt him before saying them to you.
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)
Now, you would think Pluto's not upfront about his jealousy at all, but... You'd be surprised by how easy it is to tell when he gets jealous. It took him a long time to finally consider you as truly his, but once he finally understood you wouldn't abandon him all alone, you can be sure that he'll get a lot more confident about his relationship with you. To be honest, he isn't that much possessive : he trusts you and he knows you love him a lot. So if he gets jealous, it's essentially because others are seemingly bothering you with their flirty attitude, or ask for your full attention too often to his liking. He'll get more offensive than usual with those people, and will make sure to let them know your boyfriend is him, and no one else. It's honestly a little cute to see.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
Oh gosh. This boy can't get enough of the taste of your lips. He kisses you everytime like if it was the last time he could ever taste your skin. He tries to make the moment last forever, kissing you slowly in hope he can engrave the shape of your lips in his skin. He loves to kiss your lips, your cheeks, your chin and your collarbone, and he also loves it when you kiss his forehead, his neck and his lips. Basically, please just kiss him.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
Pluto can handle one (1) child at a time, as long as there isn't any kind of distraction around and the kid is quiet and calm. He will definitely get anxious if you introduce more kids, but will try his best to take care of them, although children are definitely not his thing. He's scared he might hurt them, or that they might rebel against him and make him loose control over the situation.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
Pluto needs a whole lot of time for brain.exe to start functioning every morning. So expect a lot of half-asleep cuddles and hugs during this laps of time. You’re just waking up ? He’ll snuggle against you until you go out of bed. You’re standing in the room while he gets up ? He’ll come and hug you warmly. You’re making breakfast ? He’ll wrap his arms around you from behind, and rest his head on your back/shoulder. He’s just trying to stay warm and rest on you until you’re both completely woken up and ready for the day.
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
After a long day, Pluto always like to relax with you a bit before falling asleep, especially if he haven't seen you a lot during the day. He'll cuddle and read a book with you, or listen to you talking about your day. If you have work to do, or you want to draw or write, he'll absolutely stay by your side, as long as you let him do. Some days if he's really tired of interactions, he will just do things by himself while you'll be in an other part of the room, doing your own things.
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
One more time, you'll need patience here. If the small, general things will come out more easily, you'll have to gain a little more of Pluto's trust to hear about his worries and insecurities, and some more again for him to talk to you about his injured eye. Ultimately, he won't tell you about his whole past if he doesn't trust you completely and entirely. The more it hurts for him, the more you'll need to wait. There's layers and layers of difficult experiences to unpack here, and he doesn't exactly feel comfortable to talk about it with anyone and everyone.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
Pluto doesn't exactly get angered easily, except if you really push him too far or refuses to listen to him. He just gets... annoyed. It's not uncommon for him to deadpan at you when you do some stupid jokes. Basically, if you want to annoy him, you'll success pretty easily. But it stays light-hearted and gentle most of the time. However, if you mistreat him or his friends, he'll go absolutely feral.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
If he cares about someone, Pluto is the kind of boy to collect little infos about them. So you can be sure that he'll remember about your favorite drink, food, book, type of music... Anything that could be useful to make you smile or laugh. He also makes sure to remember about your triggers and struggles, because he doesn't want to let you go through those all alone. He knows how it feels. A little bit too well.
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
Oh gosh there's so many moments that he holds dearly. When you're both walking along side and one of you reaches for the other's hand, or wrap their hand around the other's arm. When you're cuddling together peacefully and he feels like he's finally at the right place, a place where he belongs. And all the times where you looked out for him, reached for him, made sure he was okay, cared about him and his feelings. Everytime he thought "oh. So that's what a home feels like.". Every single one of those moments are his favorites.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
What Pluto needs the most (and the more often) is emotional and psychological protection (I almost typed "psychological help", but this is an other topic). Stand out for him when no one seems to be listening. Give importance to his feelings, and validate them when others seems to be ignoring them. Make sure everyone have well understood that it's a big nope to cross his personal boundaries. It's not that he doesn't stand out for himself, but sometimes he feels like none care about what he's saying, and that's when you need to help him a little. Also, you'll need to protect him from his triggers, and the emotional and mental distress they put him into. Of course he'll do exactly the same for you: raising your voice so others will listen to you when you have something to say, standing out when someone crosses your own boundaries... In facts, Pluto seems shy and reserved, but when it comes to people he deeply cares for, he won't hesitate for a second to stand out for them, which makes him extremely protective.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)
Pluto is more of the chill and authentic type. He won't put on an entire show to impress you for just one night. Of course he organizes super romantic dates that will absolutely makes your heart ache with love, but it's more chill than you could think. It's watching fireworks together, laying in grass at night to watch shooting stars, going to the theater or going in an calm, intimate, and absolutely beautiful place to spend time together. He just wants some peace. What he puts all of his energy into is being here for you everyday, making you happy and loved, on a daily basis. He'll make sure to adapt to your own love languages if you need to. But you can be certain he'll also put his whole soul into important anniversaries and the potential gifts that come with it. He just want you to be the most loved person of this world.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
Anything that has to do with anxiety. I'm talking about, biting his nails or his lips, picking his skin until it hurts, scratching it until it's almost bleeding... And also snapping when he's under too much pressure. It's not against you personally, and Pluto often regrets it immediately after (and when I say he regrets, I mean he regrets), but yeah. It can happens.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
Out of his hair, that he cares about a lot (especially the strand of hair that hides his scar), Pluto is not the most concerned about his looks. He just wears whatever is great in his opinion, and makes him comfortable. The top goal for him is to have useful, functional clothes. You won't make him wear anything that doesn't have pockets and is too fancy to walk around.
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
Loosing you is just not an option. It took Pluto so much time to find someone who made him feel seen, heard, and loved. Someone who finally showed him what a home felt like. He doesn't want to loose that feeling, everything that he had built up would just completely and absolutely crumble. Once he truly, deeply fell in love with you, you can be sure that he would feel like a part of him would be missing without you.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
Pluto's agility comes from his childhood. He grew used to climb on fournitures to not make his footsteps remarkable. He grew used to hide things in the most unreachable places. To walk around his house on the tip of his toes, to crawl on the floor so he won't be seen. He grew up to be agile because it was necessary to his survival.
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)
People who aren't willing to make any kind of efforts just repulse him. He won't necessarily be upfront about it, but he'll be colder, more reserved. Pluto is searching for deep, meaningful, authentic connections, and superficial people who are only interested by what you can give them, or what you look like from the outside really give him the creeps.
Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)
Most of the time, you either are the big spoon, or he just sleeps with his head rested on your chest and his arms wrapped around you. He like to hold you in his sleep, to stay close to you. It makes him feel safer. However if you had a particularly stressful or difficult day, he will gladly spoon you too. It just makes him so glad to think he's protecting you in your sleep.

Can I ask what a realist is? You've described theo as one and I tried looking it up but the definitions are going right over my head, so I was wondering if you could help?
Tumblr media
I described Theo as a realist because he described himself as a realist. This is his line from The Last Chimera (5x11):
Theo: I'm not the bad guy, Stiles. I'm just a realist. I'm a survivor. If you knew the things that I know…
But to be fair, in my opinion, he is not actually a realist. He, like many other villains both in fiction and in real life, is in my view a pessimistic fatalist. Of course, I'm going to have to explain what I mean by this.
A realist evaluates events and probable outcomes by analysis of observable factors. To ground it in a common scenario, if there is a battle against hostile forces approaching, the realist will examine how many members each side has, what supplies they have, what the external environment has, the respective training each side has received, and even their morale before predicting an outcome or planning a strategy.
What a realist doesn't take into account are things such as the morality of the outcome. This doesn't mean that they won't have an abstract goal in mind, but they don't believe that those abstract goals, on either side, will have an impact on the outcome of the battle. Virtue, in and of itself, doesn't matter to success or failure, and the ethics of the tactics employed are irrelevant. Again, this doesn't mean that these things are unimportant to the realist; it simply means that they don't think they affect the outcome.
The audience can see why Theo thinks he is a realist; he believes he is aping his mentors. As he tells Donovan in Condition Terminal (5x04), "you see, these guys, they believe in numbers." And he certainly talks about practical decision making, such as when he mentions allying with the Soviets in WWII to Scott and Stiles in Amplification (5x15), persuades Malia to let him help her in The Sword and the Spirit (5x14), negotiates with Deucalion or betrays Tracy in Apotheosis (5x20).
But he really isn't. In my conception, a pessimistic fatalist is an individual who assumes that the outcome of any event or scenario will be the most negative possible unless measures are taken to prevent it. It's very popular among villains and antagonists because it can cloak wicked actions as moral rectitude: "we have to do what's necessary." For example, individuals who think this way always go for the kill, because that's the only way for them to assure a positive outcome. To them, any consideration of ethics is suicidal foolishness; ruthlessness is required for survival.
This isn't realism. A realist won't assume that all possibilities that cannot be controlled will tend toward the worst result, and thus does not include that perception in their evaluation of events. A realist doesn't dismiss the possibility or effectiveness of, for example, negotiation if it conforms to other measurable factors.
Theo believes that things will always end badly unless he makes them end well. That's how Deucalion is able to deceive him into disregarding the usefulness of Belasko's talons, because there is a possibility that the talons wouldn't work, and so Theo assumed that they wouldn't. That's why he kills Tracy after she suggests that they take a few days to recover, because throughout the range of possible actions he could take, killing her for her power and to restore himself is the most ruthless. He can't consider that he might get another chance with Tracy's help because he is not thinking realistically, he's acting on the idea that he's already lost control and thus the worst possible result is destined to occur.
Theo's story isn't the first time that pessimistic fatalists have become villains on Teen Wolf. Derek's villain arc in Season 2 is entirely fueled by this perspective, look at the exchange with Scott on the lacrosse pitch in Venomous (2x05). Scott was wrong in his analysis of why both Lydia and Jackson survived and didn't turn, but the facts remain the facts. Derek doesn't know why this happened, and one of them may be the kanima, and a realist wouldn't plan strategy on what they don't know. But Derek is motivated by fear, not reason, and when he ends up shouting "I can't let her live!" even though he has no rational basis for that decision, he's exhibiting pessimistic fatalism.
Scott McCall, on the other hand, isn't a realist either. He's what I like to call an optimistic pragmatist. He does allow concepts of right and wrong to influence his decision making, but he does it without denying objective reality. That's why he's willing to replace Gerard's medication with mountain ash as a fail safe in case he can't stop Gerard from forcing Derek to bite him. It's why he's willing to work with the Alpha Pack to stop Jennifer, because "I don't think I can stop her without them." It's why he plants Deucalion in Theo's camp, and why he uses the dead bodies of the deputies in an attempt to save Jiang and Tierney. There were more practical decisions in each of those scenarios, decisions a realist would have taken, but Scott will not reject his core principle that all life has value.
It is this optimistic pragmatism that makes Scott less popular than he should be with the fandom, because pessimistic fatalism tends to be a very popular point of view, especially in power fantasies. When confronted by enemies, many can only see the worst possible result, and so, to them, the only rational response to a threat is war-to-the-knife, lethal and final force. That's why it often appears in fan-fiction that the author has their mouthpiece despise Scott for giving "second and third" chances to their enemies, even though these are enemies that Scott has beaten repeatedly. For example, a realist would see that is Scott has out-thought and out-fought Gerard repeatedly, then there is a chance that he will out-think and out-fight him again. They would not automatically jump to the idea that it's only a matter of time before the threat of Gerard destroys them all.
I hope this answers your questions. Feel free to ask follow ups.

I am an ESTP and I want to know whether it is possible/healthy to eschew certain societal values that don't match my own. For example, I don't value or care to dress up or wear makeup, I like a clean simple look that is low fuss/effort. However, I see others put more effort into their appearance and be rewarded for this, and this makes me want to do so as well, even though deep down I really don't care. I also find I respect myself less for giving in to societal pressures at the expense of myown
How old are you? It is normal for people in adolescence and young adulthood to struggle with issues of personal identity. Specifically, it is not always easy to find the right balance between staying true to oneself and meeting the expectations of others. Some people get trapped in either/or thinking that easily becomes too extreme.
ESTPs who only care about what they want and never think about what larger negative effect they're producing are unhealthy ESTPs, misusing their judging functions in service of a shallow, lazy, or careless Se approach to life. If you truly care about yourself and hope to feel some pride in who you are, you wouldn't want to be a negative version of yourself, and you wouldn't want to present a negative image of yourself to the world.
Ideally, ESTPs should use their powers of reason to establish the right balance between self and others, which is related to proper Ti and Fe development. In order for ESTPs to genuinely "care" about doing something, they have to understand the reasoning behind it and agree with it - this is how one arrives at better Ti-Fe balance. Sometimes, when a situation is complex, you might have to take extra steps to truly understand it. You would have to consider all the different factors and all the different ways of looking at the situation - this requires Ni big-picture visualization powers.
Taking your example of dress: On one hand, as an individual, you ought to be free to choose your own style and wear what is in accordance with your comfort, beliefs, and values. On the other hand, you are a participant in relationships with others and what you do has a larger effect, even when you don't realize it. The way you dress projects an image and that image influences how people evaluate and relate to you. Of course, how people evaluate you matters much more in some situations than others, so it's not just "to care or not to care", as though the complexity of life can be distilled into one rule. Remember: Ti values the process of coming to a rational judgment, which requires deliberation and some nuance. To develop mature use of Ti requires you to use your reasoning skills more carefully to determine the best judgment based on the situation at hand.
Imagine going to an office job interview in a swimsuit. Imagine what society would look and feel like if everyone wandered around in their pajamas all day. There is a social element of dress because the way you present yourself contributes to the overall vibe of a social environment. The vibe is real because it has a very tangible effect on how people think, feel, and behave. People dress professionally at the office because employers want to encourage professional behavior, employees want to maximize their chances of making a good impression, and clients/customers want to be assured of professional conduct. People dress casually at the neighborhood restaurant because they want everyone to feel at ease and enjoy themselves. People dress in dark shades at a funeral in order to express their sadness/grief on a somber occasion. People dress up for their dates to show that they care enough to make an effort for love.
While dress is largely a personal choice, if you understand that there is an element of dress that extends beyond you and impacts others, then a reasonable person would try to find the appropriate middle ground, wouldn't they?
To reconcile self with others isn't about "me vs them" (oversimplistic either/or thinking). It's about choosing the most constructive ways of being yourself (maximizing the benefits).

to that prior anon: what makes something a disability is how it impacts the life of the person who has it. for example, you use arthritis as an example of smth being "just a medical condition" but without medication that would cost more than $12k/month if I didn't have insurance, I am in constant pain and literally cannot walk or use my hands. my arthritis is disabling, while for others it's just constant low level pain and they may not consider it a disability.
please remember it's up to the person with the medical condition to determine if it disables them, and it varies person to person even with the same condition.
In their defense i think they were just asking a question because it is definitely like, a weird gray area? It honestly brings up a good discussion about, when do you you start calling something a disability, and how, I think, the broken health care system really, uh, falsely categorizes a lot of people based on what insurance is up to. Also different countries apparently have different guidelines, like for example my Canadian friend gets disability benefits literally just for being autistic despite being very "high functioning", putting that in quotes just because I know that can be kind of a controversial term.
But also, I'm so sorry you deal with that, I dont quite have arthritis but I can totally empathize wirh chronic physical pain 🥺 its actually horrifying reading the prices of some of these treatments sometimes and im really glad you have your medicine taken csre of. I often think about what would've happened to me if I hadn't been on state insurance when I was diagnosed with my equinus, I think it was literally like at least 5k per leg (i actually barely remember tbh, it couldve been higher or lower), which, I guess ultimately isn't a lot, but on my income and my moms income would have been so significant I would've felt actual guilt seeking treatment. Like, there was a legitimate possibility that the mere price could have kept me from... walking normally? And like my mom is 58 and she's been told she qualifies for knee replacements but she's literally scared of even getting them because of how long the recovery period can be and the financial loss and also just the price? So my mom could end up in legitimately worse health, although I guess that also has to do with like, America not having good workers rights where she could've taken off laid leave for surgery or something
It's that whole expression about "disability is defined by the environment" or something like that. Sort of like that whole controversy with Mr Beast where he paid for a bunch of people to get their sight or hearing back. Those people had treatable conditions and were stuck living in a way that negatively impacted their lives simply because they couldn't afford it? Like I can't even imagine not being able to use one of my five senses just because I couldn't afford it, but I know that's um already a reality for like, people who can't afford hearing aids and stuff like that
I think I'm starting to ramble here but like, I wish people had more sympathy for the disabled (and im talking about like society, not the last ask just to be clear, I feel like they were legitimately just curious). Like sometimes when you see people like violently hating the homeless, sometimes those people are literally people who got into horrible accidents or had some sort of injury and they wound up addicted to painkillers and had to turn to drugs when they can't afford prescription pain meds or those prescriptions get them addicted. I had a manager who was in a car accident and the painkillers made her eventually switch to straight up heroin. Even our disabled vets don't get good healthcare half the time
But yeah, as for me, I guess consider myself kind of straddling the line between disabled and able bodied, leaning more towards able bodied, but I can still have issues, like my knees are still kinda jacked up and even though i can stand and walk great now, stairs can be really tough sometimes, especially when I'm coming home from work and my body aches. and I still get pains in my back sometimes when I'm bending and leaning to the point I use a menthol roll-on gel for pain relief. Part of me kind of likes that I, I dunno, overcame the challenge and all that, but like, I think I would've preferred a body that didn't hurt lol 😅

You mention that Mogdir has extremely strict environmentalist laws, just how struck we talking about? And is it also true a lot of these environmental-laws have anti-commoner undertones?
It's true that Mogdir Kingdom has strict laws when it comes to protecting the environment. These laws often impact commoner citizens in negative ways, which government officials claim is just incidental, but many people believe the impact is very much intentional to keep commoners oppressed.
Any form of refined iron is banned in this kingdom. If you so much as have iron buttons on your shirt, border security will snatch them right off you before you're allowed to cross. Iron is considered an essential material in most commoner societies. Since commoners can't use magic, many of their civilizations have advanced by way of technology, which utilizes a lot of iron. Without it, commoners find themselves gimped as they're forced back into the stone age.
The harvesting of live wood is mostly outlawed as well, meaning logging is not possible without a (very expensive) permit. This means that the average commoner citizen cannot even gather their own firewood to keep warm. This doesn't affect fae and gaians as much, since they can just use magic for heat. Burning coal is also not permitted because it fouls the air with pollution, so Mogdiri commoners are in a crummy position where they must pay a premium for firewood just to survive the winter. Lumber is astronomically expensive in this kingdom because it must be imported from faraway lands, so building a home is not an easy option. No problem for fae, who can just use curative magic to grow their own home.
Every little thing in Mogdiri culture is built around magic. If you cannot use magic, every aspect of your life will be more inconvenient or downright impossible. Government officials claim this way of life is necessary to protect the environment, and that there is no other alternative.
However, other civilizations prove that this isn't necessarily true. Matuzu Kingdom and Evangeline Kingdom, for example, have developed alternative energy sources and ways of life that are eco-friendly, as well as commoner-friendly. They may not be perfect solutions and each certainly has their drawbacks, but they could be improved further if the political will was there.
This is why skeptics believe Mogdir is just using the environment as an excuse to keep its culture hostile to commoners, and therefore keep them subordinate to fae and gaians in their society.

Hmm…maybe #7-12 for a fic of your choosing? 📚
i'm going to be answering these for Howl :)
7: Which character gave you the hardest time writing correctly?
I think no one's surprised to hear that it was, of course, Vanitas. Part of the process of writing Howl was about figuring out what major character flaw could/would/does negatively impact their desired/future/current relationships, so writing Vanitas was hard because I could very easily name over ten, each one as terrible as the next. I kind of had that problem with Domi too, but it all comes back to her being too giving (and her characteristic absence of self), so I easily focused on that aspect (and of course the fic was initially only her part, so i already had a lot of inspiration for her). With Vanitas though... the multifaceted bastard man doesn't ever show the same flaw twice. It was so hard I almost gave up on his part, but ended up just taking a break from it, writing Jeanne's part, and coming back to it. In the end I just went for the "bitter bitch who observes the misery of others and refuses to look at how to get his own shit together" angle, which is something I consider to be a major character trait and flaw Vanitas regularly exhibits, but you can disagree with me on that one.
12: What are some aesthetics/images you often associate with your fic?
Okay, I think anyone who has ever read anything I've written might notice the severe lack of background descriptions. The thing is I write about feelings a lot but I'm not actually fond of the Romanticism movement (think of me as Flaubert, if you will- I know how to do it but I'd rather make fun of it), so I see no point in talking about the environment unless I want to paint a very clear image for the reader- which I don't do a lot, as it would actually undermine my work because I write a lot about confusion, and hazes, and identity crises, and uncertainty... So no full backgrounds in text.
BUT I'm an artist still, of COURSE i have TONS of imagery in my head as I write. And the ones for Howl... delightful.
(This is going to be very long.)
Chapter one, aka dominoé and the bedroom of infinite sexual tension
Tumblr media
I didn't take a look at Dominique's actual bedroom while I was writing, so I really just imagined Noé, with his monochrome look (though at this point he's barely dressed), on a red bed, in a red room, plunged in the obvious representation of Domi's feelings yet unaware and unaffected, which would be represented by the lighting which obviously clashes with the intended colour of the room. Basic symbolism aside, I often imagine dominoé interactions with warm, domestic, indoors aesthetics (and a whole lot of red for obvious reasons) so I really just want to give them all the soft beds in the world.
Chapter two, aka Vanitas trying real hard to out-stupid Dominique
The aesthetic is just that one "Mal D'Amour" episode (don't ask me why i remember that name, i don't even know. isn't the english name the incurable disease or something??). It's one of my favourites, of course it haunts me.
Imagine grumpy, frowning, bitchy Vanitas on a double date in the beautiful streets of Paris, just staring at Domi while Noé and Jeanne desperately try to get his attention. All of this with that episode's vibe. Peak comedy, and Vanitas is a whole clown.
(no pics because i cannot be bothered to get screenshots of this one. you've seen the episodes.)
Chapter three, aka Jeanne, haunted by love (and homophobia tbh)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yeah the general vibe was "no thoughts only Jeanne".
No, seriously, since the whole point of that chapter was Jeanne going "if i think hard enough about how embarrassing vanitas's whole existence is, i can forget how i'm also hopelessly in love with dominique", the whole vision was Jeanne turning and tossing around in her bed in the middle of the night, red in the face, absolutely haunted by the horrors of love. There could've been more of an aesthetic, but I'm gay, and all I had was blushing maiden Jeanne.
Isn't she so pretty though?
Chapter four, aka Noé being very lovely and a little silly
Tumblr media
Noé and Jeanne are having a coffee frienddate but by the end of the date the friend part is questionable ngl. Need I say more?
and yeah, that's it for my silly rambling, have a nice day

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT WATERFRONT HOUSES
Tumblr media
Beautiful waterfront houses offer both visual appeal and a refreshing environment. A beachfront property does have a number of advantages, but there are drawbacks as well. There are lists of benefits, drawbacks, and things to keep in mind when buying a waterfront home, which will assist you in making an informed choice.
One of the newest dreams of Indian homebuyers is to live on a lake, by a river, or by the sea. Their popularity stems from their easy proximity to natural or artificial water sources, such ponds, rivers, streams, canals, or even the sea. Buyers, however, are often unaware of the unique difficulties that come with waterfront living. Although that may all seem ideal, one of the primary drawbacks of living near water sources is upkeep.
Living near the water, for some homeowners, means having access to sun, sand, and waves all day long. Some associate riverfront living with a peaceful setting where they may commune with nature. There is a beachfront property to fit your demands, no matter what kind of lifestyle you're after.
Understanding the many subtleties of waterfront real estate is crucial if you are intending to purchase or are just thinking about it. Let's talk about the benefits and drawbacks of residing at a condominium for sale hutchinson island florida.
Benefits:
Possibility of price growth
The amount of land that is for sale close to bodies of water is usually restricted. When considering the popularity quotient of certain places, investments often increase over time. Although there isn't a hard-and-fast rule, prices for waterfront houses have often increased significantly over time.
Confidentiality
These estates, which have one side facing a body of water, typically provide exceptional seclusion. Places near sources of water are frequently found in isolated regions. The seclusion factor of these residences is increased by the scarcity of nearby housing alternatives.
Wonderful vistas
Properties on the waterfront provide enthralling vistas and plenty of seclusion. You may be confident that you will be treated to fantastic views of the horizon and the sunset rather than the rear of another house because new houses often don't appear in your neighbourhood overnight.
Enhanced physical health
Living next to a body of water puts you in close proximity to a variety of water sports, including fishing, sailing, kayaking, and skiing. Engaging in outdoor activities, like those by the shore, will make you live a healthier lifestyle. In addition, the air quality is better the closer you are to the ocean.
Negative aspects:
Extra rules
There are several customs unique to residences near bodies of water, depending on the city in which you intend to create your waterfront residence. A buyer of a waterfront property has to be aware of the different River Regulation Zone (RRZ) and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) guidelines set out by the local coastal commission. There's something extremely cosy and soothing about water front property in Stuart. particularly if it means having a view of a body of water from every window in your house.
Increasing water level
Water levels are rising globally as a result of climate change brought about by human activity, which is confirmed by science as global warming. Life along the waterfront may eventually be negatively impacted by rising sea levels, which is a real and growing worry. Concern over the possible effects of increasing sea levels on coastal towns is growing. Additionally, bodies of water naturally move as a result of tidal action, rainfall, snowfall, and other variables. These changes might affect your property's landscape and raise the danger of flooding.
Corrosive substances
The inside, including the furnishings and appliances, of a waterfront home is also susceptible to corrosion from the humidity, mist, erosion, and salty air. This typically implies that you will occasionally need to spend a significant amount of money on house upkeep.
Exorbitant rates for homeowners insurance
In comparison to the mainland, the premium you would pay for your property's house insurance would be greater close to the ocean. This is due to the increased risk of storms and heavy rainfall, which might produce flooding on the water body's shores.
CONCLUSION
A good view adds a great deal of beauty and value to a house. Particularly for houses with views of the waterfront, this is accurate. One of the most well-liked and sought-after landscapes in the world is one with a waterfront view. Because their views are as permanent as they get, waterfront residences are more expensive.

Your writing style is so witty ugh I love it
Vinko Novak is such a cool name! How did you come up with it?
What was Vinko's relationship with the other Thornes compared to his relationship with Trystan?
Was there something specific that Vinko said that changed Trystan's perception of the world?
(forgive me for getting to this so late 😭) thank you so so much for your kind words! Truth be told, my writing style is literally "anything I am reading at the moment" lmao. Right now it's American Gods. Last week, I was re-reading Percy Jackson for the funsies. The *one* Christmas fic I wrote was partially inspired by the film, The Holdovers. It's a mess, I hate it but I also cannot ever disrupt this system or it'll collapse XDD
Getting back to questions - thank you so much for taking the time and sending them out!!
As for Vinko's name, I kind of like did the worst possible research ever. Looked up on Behind the Name. I'm sorry, that is very very lazy, yes, but like I was looking for a name that kind of meant something like "teacher" (ik, doomed by the narrative) or "guiding light" or something like that, but unfortunately I didn't get tangible results. Vinko was also pretty easier to type (you might have observed I stick to the 6-character-limit for names like for literally anything, which is why I absolutely hate spelling Guinevere every single goddamn time and reduced her to 'Gwen'). Vinko's last name, Novak means 'new' because well, yay symbolism, he's a new entrant in Trystan's life and arguably, the one who's made tangible impact.
What was Vinko's relationship with the other Thornes compared to his relationship with Trystan?
This is SUCH a good question, I kind of want to frame it on a mantle somewhere. Unfortunately I'm the pantser, so I have absolutely no idea how the story's going to go. Jk, maybe I can try answering it for the time-period:
Vinko's basically Trystan's private tutor. I go into the why's in the fic (clicky clicky) but the short answer is, Viktoria thinks there's a lot of negative anti-monarchist sentiment that is ransacking the school system in Drakovia and doesn't want Trystan to be put in an environment where his ideals and beliefs are at danger. "His" ideals and beliefs, apparently - bold assumptions, Viktoria.
Vinko doesn't have a huge relationship with the other Thorne siblings, since his presence in Trystan's story is only for a shorter duration of time. Also because the other Thorne siblings are literal babies considering Trystan, at the time of meeting his new teacher, was 12. Mags is 5, Vasili (in my HC is a year younger than Trys) is 11, Lydea is 10-going-on-11, Sebastyan is 6, Emika and Kasper are 4 respectively and Patryk is 3-and-a-half. So they'd have either likely forgotten him or would have gotten tutors on their own they had to care about instead.
The thing with Vinko is that he's an experiment. While Viktoria initially planned on sending all of her children to normal school (yes, including Eveline's kids) considering that's what she did, her trust in the school system kind of began fading away.
Trystan gains an age where he's no longer a child, but a pre-teen who's subjected to a lot of press scrutiny. And apart from that, you still have those simmering tensions wherein the public isn't totally sold on Trystan being the next monarch - even though he's eight years away from courtships, proper coronation training and so much more. Vinko was essentially under the Project Trystan, uh, project lol. If a private education were to work, Viktoria would hire either a couple of them to circle back and teach her kids or get a private mentor for each of her kids.
The problem is, from the excerpts and everything I posted, Vinko lied. He wanted the money, much like the other palace staff. Viktoria was desperate, so she gave him a chance anyway. Not long before taking that chance swiftly away because she learned he is no good and advocating for Trystan to "think on his own" which is not what the queen really wants, does she?
Was there something specific that Vinko said that changed Trystan's perception of the world?
Not much, but he did give Trystan opportunities to think for himself instead. Vinko doesn't enjoy playing politics. He hates the idea of 'picking sides' when you could be utilising that time to make the most of your situation. Trystan, who is stuck in between what he wants (he doesn't know) and what his family expects, is torn because there isn't a lot he could do in eight years that would drastically help his country. A ruler? As a kid? In modern times? He's barely passed pre-algebra, let alone learn political gameplay, Jesus Christ, Viktoria!
Vinko encouraged Trystan to find something that gives him strength. That sounds very mundane, so let me explain: Basically this ten-step move for him to achieve clarity in whatever he's doing. Vinko also tells him he would be great at it if he shut the f up and actually bridged lapses in communication (to Vinko, 90% of the problems come from that) and in his knowledge and he'd be great at whatever he did. A lot of Vinko's values stuck to him, even when he grew up.
Trystan learned the importance of "losing your house, but building your home" and stuff like, it is difficult to dismantle a system quite quickly, so the best he could do is walk away. I hate the thought of Trystan giving up a shot at ruling a country for love (Nora would actually throw a slipper at him if that is his reasoning) but part of the reason why he did so, was because he was simply unfit. He wasn't there to witness Drakovia at the height of its development in the late 2010s, he wasn't a part of that change and it seemed cruel and tone-deaf to assume a position wherein he would be shouting orders in a language he barely knows. He also knows his stance on his country is polarised at best and seriously sabotaging at worst. He knows how primitive the feudal system is, despite also acknowledging it being an integral cog in how Drakovia runs.
It's such a dicey situation and he knows Vinko would tell him to have faith in his abilities and his abilities alone. And if there was so much so as a fraction of doubt, let it go for now. Come back later. Revisit it without the hatred in your heart and the doubts in your mind and armed with knowledge as your primary ammunition, as opposed to Trystan's coronation being something of a full-circle moment for coping up with grief and loss. Trystan may never revisit the idea of being a ruler ever again, but he will, when the time comes, be actually ready to face the prospect of being an active player once more.
And when that time comes, he will actually be ready. That's what Vinko would have wanted.
***
Thank you so much for sending me these questions! I'm sorry if I got rambly in the middle lol.

Tan Sheng Zheng: Delving into the Real Facade of the S&P 500 and the Impacts of a Potential Financial Bubble
As we navigate the global financial markets, especially the stock market, we frequently hear discussions surrounding the S&P 500 index. Particularly in the present times, the performance of the S&P 500 seems to be drawing significant attention. But what really drives this index? And what is the genuine state of the market?
Tan Sheng Zheng mentions, "We can easily be misled by superficial data and charts, leading to a shallow understanding of the real dynamics and latent risks of the market." Diving deeper into the story behind the S&P 500 reveals a less rosy picture than what meets the eye.
For starters, even though the S&P 500 appears to be soaring in numbers, the underlying truth is less optimistic. The primary drivers of the S&P 500 are the so-called "Seven Sisters"—seven major constituent stocks. Excluding these dominant stocks, the index's growth this year would be significantly less, perhaps even negative. Tan Sheng Zheng believes that this indicates the market is currently narrowly-focused, heavily reliant on a few large-cap stocks, a phenomenon rarely observed historically.
Additionally, global inflationary pressures have been dampening the market. Such pressures are as agonizing as traditional percentage point losses, if not more. Tan Sheng Zheng suggests that inflation might induce further market instability and give rise to even greater financial risks.
For many investors, the looming concern is the future of the stock market. If a significant downturn is on the horizon, the magnitude could be staggering. Mathematically, if the stock market were to fall to levels where bond yields exceed by 5%, the market would need to plummet by over 50%. For the S&P 500, Tan Sheng Zheng postulates that if it enters a bearish cycle, it could dip below 3,000 points or even touch 2,000.
Beyond these concerns, the overvaluation of global real estate markets also puts pressure on investors, prompting many to reassess their investment strategies, considering avenues for positive returns rather than holding onto overvalued assets.
In essence, Tan Sheng Zheng opines that the current financial market teems with challenges and opportunities. Only by truly understanding the underlying market dynamics can investors make informed decisions, mitigate risks, and find fitting investment opportunities in a volatile environment.
Tan Sheng Zheng states, "The depth and intricacy of the market mean that rising stock prices don't always indicate economic health." At a glance, the "Seven Sisters" in the S&P 500 are undoubtedly market leaders. But upon closer inspection, this reveals market concentration, a significant risk signal for average investors.
In the past, diverse sectors and industries in the market consistently offered steady returns. But that narrative seems to be shifting. Tan Sheng Zheng indicates, "We can't simply equate the S&P 500's performance with the overall health of the market. In fact, the current market depth isn't as robust as it appears." Taking into account the relationship between the stock market and bond yields could reveal a startling fact: the market might need to drop over 50% to reach a rational level—a daunting prospect for investors seeking consistent market returns.
Yet, Tan Sheng Zheng also highlights the performance of defensive stocks in bearish scenarios. Often overlooked due to their "mundane" nature, they typically offer steady returns in adverse market conditions over the long term. Brands like Coca-Cola have historically thrived in bear markets, attributed to their stable business models and robust brand power.
In today's increasingly complex global financial environment, Tan Sheng Zheng urges investors to remain vigilant. Assets like gold and Bitcoin have garnered much attention, but he believes, "In times of potential inflation resurgence, gold might be the ultimate safe haven, while Bitcoin, despite its appeal, carries inherent risks."
Lastly, Grantham's views provide a global perspective. He warns that the investment climate in the US might not be as optimistic as perceived. He previously prophesied potential global asset bubbles, which now seem to be materializing. However, he also notes that market corrections aren't always detrimental, offering astute investors entry opportunities.
In conclusion, Tan Sheng Zheng underscores the need for investors to think independently in complex market conditions and to make judicious investment decisions combining the "Three Lines Define Everything" strategy. He reminds us that risks and opportunities in the market often coexist. The key lies in finding the balance to achieve steady investment returns.

1. The Illusion of Control
Humanity has, no doubt, made strides in understanding and influencing our environment. From scientific breakthroughs to global treaties, we've made efforts to control the trajectory of our planet's fate. Yet, the bigger picture often reveals our limitations. In a world where a single volcanic eruption can emit more CO2 than many nations combined, the scale of our control pales in comparison to the unyielding forces of nature.
2. Searching for Meaning
This is not to say our endeavors are pointless. The pursuit isn't always about efficacy. For many, life's quest is not about altering the world, but about discovering oneself within it. What we do, how we impact others, and the legacy we leave behind are poignant markers of a life lived with purpose. Some might say it's a vigorous pursuit of personal "immorality"—an attempt to defy the inevitable fading of one's essence. We're often told, "You go, girl!" to chase after whatever gives our life significance. And indeed, one should.
3. The Collision of Personal Pursuits
But what happens when one person's pursuit of meaning collides with another's? The spectrum of human desires and ambitions is vast, and often, our goals intertwine and conflict. At what point does our individual pursuit become a hurdle for someone else? When does one's freedom to chase dreams infringe upon another's right to do the same?
In the race to find meaning, we must tread carefully. For it's easy to be so engrossed in our journey that we overlook the paths of others.
4. A Balance of Pursuits
As we grapple with the profound challenges of our time—whether they're environmental, societal, or deeply personal—we must remember the shared humanity that binds us all. Our efforts to prevent extinctions or combat climate change may sometimes feel like merely rearranging chairs on a sinking ship. But it's in these efforts, these pursuits of meaning, that we find our collective spirit.
To truly lead a meaningful life, one must not only seek personal fulfillment but also recognize the interconnectedness of all pursuits. In a world on the brink, it's not just about finding our own way, but ensuring others can find theirs too.
Great but add a glossary and definition of terms and remedial background
ChatGPT
Certainly. Here's a glossary and some remedial background for the terms used in the article:
Glossary and Remedial Background
Anthropocentric Views: This term refers to a human-centered perspective. In environmental contexts, it suggests that humans see themselves as the central and most important entities, often to the detriment of the environment or other species.
Background: Historically, humans have perceived themselves as the dominant species, often placing human needs above those of other species or the environment. This viewpoint has been challenged in recent decades with the rise of ecological consciousness and awareness of the interconnectedness of all life.
Mitigate: To lessen in force or intensity; to make less severe. In the context of climate change, it refers to efforts to reduce the negative effects.
Background: Climate mitigation often involves strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions or enhance the capacity of carbon sinks.
Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic: An idiom referring to futile actions in the face of impending disaster.
Background: The Titanic was an "unsinkable" ship that tragically sank in 1912. As it was sinking, there would've been no use in rearranging its deck chairs—a futile act when facing such a disaster.
Immorality: Typically refers to actions or thoughts that are considered wrong or unethical. However, in the article, it seems there might have been a typo or play on words, possibly intending to mean "immortality" – the state of living forever.
Background: Throughout history, humans have sought ways to achieve immortality, whether through legacy, art, or even scientific means.
Interconnectedness: The state of being connected with each other.
Background: Especially in ecological and spiritual contexts, interconnectedness refers to the intricate web of relationships that exist between all entities and the environment. Recognizing this interconnectedness can lead to a more holistic and sustainable approach to challenges.
Legacy: Something handed down from an ancestor or a predecessor or from the past.
Background: People often seek to leave a positive legacy, whether it's through their family, work, deeds, or contributions to society.
Including a glossary and background helps readers who may not be familiar with certain terms or concepts to better understand the material. This ensures the information is accessible to a wider audience.
I did mean immortality not immorality does that change the article. Sorry about that. Thanks for noticing
ChatGPT
No problem! Yes, the switch from "immorality" to "immortality" does provide a different context. "Immortality" refers to the idea of living forever or leaving a lasting legacy, which is more aligned with the theme of seeking meaning and purpose in life. Here's a revised section of the article with that change:
2. Searching for Meaning

Glossary and Remedial Background (Revised)
Immortality: The state or quality of being immortal; not subject to death or decay; everlasting.
Background: Across cultures and history, the quest for immortality has been a recurring theme. Whether through tales of the Fountain of Youth, the elixir of life, or modern science's pursuit to extend human lifespan, the desire to overcome death and achieve some form of lasting existence or legacy is deeply embedded in human psyche.
The shift to "immortality" provides a clearer context of individuals' pursuit of lasting significance and meaning in their lives.

Why 6 Yard Skips Are the Perfect Size for Home Renovations
When it comes to waste disposal, 6 yard skips have become increasingly popular among homeowners and businesses alike. The benefits are numerous, starting with their perfect size - not too small to limit your disposal options, yet not too large to take up excessive space. This makes them ideal for a range of projects, from small-scale renovations to garden clean-ups.
Another advantage of using 6 yard skips is their cost-effectiveness. With a medium-sized skip like this, you only pay for what you need. Larger skips may seem like a better option initially, but they often end up being more expensive and wasteful if you don't fill them completely. Furthermore, the compact size of 6 yard skips allows for easier placement on your property without causing any disruptions or inconveniences.
Additionally, opting for 6 yard skip hire helps promote sustainability and eco-friendliness. By properly disposing of waste through skip services, you ensure that materials are sent to recycling centers instead of ending up in landfills. This reduces the environmental impact and contributes to a greener future for our planet.
In conclusion, when it comes to waste management solutions, choosing a 6 yard skip offers several advantages. Their optimal size provides flexibility while minimizing costs and hassle associated with larger alternatives. Moreover, by supporting eco-friendly practices through proper waste disposal methods, you can contribute towards building a sustainable world.
A Versatile Option for Various Renovation Projects
When it comes to tackling various renovation projects, one versatile option that should be on every homeowner's radar is 6 yard skip hire. This type of skip offers an ideal size for those smaller projects that don't warrant a larger skip but still require a significant amount of waste removal. Whether you're planning on remodelling your kitchen, renovating the bathroom, or even landscaping your garden, a 6 yard skip provides ample space for all the debris and junk you'll need to dispose of.
What makes 6 yard skip hire so appealing is its versatility in accommodating different types of materials. From broken tiles and wood offcuts to plasterboard and packaging waste, this mid-sized option ensures that no matter what kind of renovation project you're undertaking, you'll have enough room to get rid of any unwanted materials. Plus, with its convenient placement on your property or street (with necessary permits), it eliminates the hassle of making multiple trips to the local dump or recycling centre - saving both time and effort.
Another advantage worth considering is the environmental benefits associated with opting for 6 yard skip hire. By utilizing a single container rather than making numerous car journeys back and forth to dispose of waste, you significantly reduce carbon emissions and minimize your ecological footprint. Furthermore, hiring a reliable waste management company ensures that your collected rubbish will be responsibly sorted and disposed of in accordance with relevant regulations – giving you peace of mind knowing that your renovation project isn't negatively impacting the environment.
Adequate Capacity for Small to Medium-Sized Jobs
When it comes to tackling small to medium-sized jobs, having adequate capacity is crucial. This is where a 6-yard skip hire can truly make a difference. With its compact size and ample space, it provides the perfect solution for projects that generate a moderate amount of waste material. Whether you're remodeling a single room or clearing out your garage, this skip size offers the right balance between convenience and efficiency.
One key advantage of opting for a 6-yard skip is that it can accommodate various types of waste materials. From garden waste and rubble to household items and construction debris, this versatile option has got you covered. Additionally, its smaller dimensions mean it can fit easily on most driveways without causing disruption to pedestrians or neighbors. This opens up new possibilities for carrying out renovations or decluttering projects with minimal hassle.
Moreover, by choosing the right skip size for your job, you'll also be making an environmentally conscious decision. With proper sorting and disposal practices in place, using a 6-yard skip helps ensure that recyclable materials are appropriately handled and diverted from landfill sites. It's an opportunity not only to efficiently manage your project's waste but also contribute positively towards creating a greener future.
In conclusion, don't underestimate the power of adequate capacity when it comes to small to medium-sized jobs. Choosing a 6-yard skip hire allows you to efficiently handle different types of waste while keeping things organized and convenient. By considering the environmental impact of your choices as well, you can turn your project into
Convenient Size for Maneuvering and Placement
When it comes to managing waste and debris, finding the right size skip for maneuvering and placement is crucial. A 6-yard skip hire company offers a convenient size that strikes the perfect balance between capacity and ease of use. Whether you are renovating your home, decluttering your space, or undertaking small-scale construction projects, a 6-yard skip provides maximum flexibility for maneuvering within tight spaces.
The compact size of a 6-yard skip allows for easy placement in driveways or on the roadside, without causing obstructions or inconvenience to neighbors or pedestrians. Its dimensions make it highly versatile for navigating narrow alleys and tight corners. This means that even if you have limited access to your property, a 6-yard skip can be efficiently delivered and collected without any hassle.
Moreover, its convenient size doesn't compromise its functionality. With a capacity equivalent to approximately 60 bin bags, this mid-sized skip can accommodate a considerable amount of waste while still remaining manageable for disposal purposes. By opting for a 6-yard skip hire service, you're not only ensuring efficient waste management but also contributing towards sustainability by properly disposing of rubbish through professional channels rather than adding it to overflowing landfills.
In conclusion, the convenience offered by a 6-yard skip is unparalleled when it comes to maneuverability and placement in various settings. Whether you need to clear out household clutter or dispose of construction materials during remodeling projects, this size provides the ideal solution. In addition to promoting proper waste management, opting for a 6 yard skip hire in London can also have a positive impact on carbon emissions. This not only saves time but also reduces fuel consumption and air pollution associated with transportation. Additionally, many reputable skip hire companies work closely with licensed recycling facilities where they ensure that items like furniture, electronics, and appliances are properly recycled or repurposed rather than ending up in landfills.
By choosing a responsible 6 yard skip hire service provider in London that prioritizes sustainability efforts, you can further enhance the positive impact on the environment. Look for companies that practice efficient sorting methods at their own facilities or partner with specialized sorting centers that can extract valuable resources from mixed waste streams effectively. This mid-size skip strikes the perfect balance between capacity and convenience. It offers ample space to accommodate various types of waste materials generated during renovations, such as broken furniture, old appliances, and construction debris.
One key advantage of a 6-yard skip is its compact size. Unlike larger skips that can take up valuable space on residential properties or cause inconvenience for neighbors, this size fits well within most driveways or road spaces. Additionally, it is worth noting that many local authorities require skip permits for placing skips on public land. With a 6-yard skip hire in London, obtaining permits becomes simpler and more cost-effective compared to larger sizes.
Moreover, choosing a 6-yard skip promotes responsible waste disposal practices. By limiting the amount of waste you produce during home renovations and being conscious of what goes into the skip, you minimize your environmental impact. This smaller sized skip encourages homeowners to sort their waste efficiently before disposing of it responsibly in separate compartments within the skip itself.
Overall, based on its practicality and sustainability benefits, selecting a 6 yard-skip for home renovations in London proves to be an excellent choice. Its convenience when obtaining permits coupled with efficient waste disposal practices ensures a seamless renovation process while minimizing environmental harm. What is a mobile home? Advantages of mobile homes
A mobile home is a type of manufactured home. Mobile homes are also known as “stick-built homes.” They are manufactured homes that are built and take advantage of the efficiencies of modern factories. More specifically, a mobile home is a prefabricated, manufactured structure, that is placed on one particular area of space and is used for a family’s or an individual’s permanent living condition. Apart from being used for a permanent living condition, a mobile home is also widely used as a vacation home, or as temporary accommodation. Despite being situated in one particular area of space, a mobile home is transportable. A mobile home is often also known as a house trailer, a trailer home, a trailer, a residential caravan, or even a static caravan.
Tumblr media
One advantage mobile homes offer is that they are often a lower-cost option to having a stick-built home custom build for you. In this regard, mobile homes can make homeownership easier to achieve. And since mobile homes usually cost less per square foot than a stick-built home, you can get more space for your money. There are some stick-built home builders that have standard floor plans and options that allow them to build homes for prices similar to mobile homes. If you prefer a stick-built home, you might look into whether such a builder is in your area so that you can compare the quality of construction with a newer mobile home. Please go here to this website https://www.holycitymobilehomes.com/ and you get top quality mobile home buyers.
Another advantage you might find with mobile homes is flexibility. Since mobile homes are usually more affordable than a stick-built home and only semi-permanent, if you own land, you can place a mobile home on it now and remove it in the future (though removal isn't as easy as it sounds, given the plumbing and other attachments). This might be an option if you are uncertain you want to own the land long term, do not want to commit to a stick-built home now, or cannot afford a stick-built home right now. An additional advantage mobile homes offer is that they are usually built in controlled environments. This means they can be consistently built to a high standard. And because they are manufactured in such conditions, construction delays due to weather or difficulty scheduling subcontractors are less likely.
Affordable: Mobile homes are generally less costly when compared to stick-built homes of a similar size, but the savings don’t stop there. Newly built Mobile homes are often more energy efficient, making them less expensive to heat and cool. Mobile homes can be purchased new or used, with used homes often offering even greater savings. When a buyer can find a used mobile home that is already located on a lot or parcel of land this can be beneficial as well, as there will be no need to pay to transport the home and have it installed on the building site. When considering used Mobile homes it is advisable to look at those built after June 15, 1976. Homes built before this date were not subject to Federal Mobile Home Construction and Safety Standards and will likely not qualify for some of the best mobile home financing options.
Environmentally Friendly: The negative impact on the environment tends to be lower with Mobile homes. The building process is very efficient, meaning there are fewer wasted materials. With a stick-built home additional building materials are often tossed into a dumpster and end up in a landfill. It is simply too costly for builders to transport the scraps to another job site to put whatever is salvageable to use. With a Mobile home, there are many units being built in the same location making it simple to make the most of supplies and resources. The energy-efficient nature of many mobile homes also helps reduce environmental impact.
Reliable Construction & Flexibility: Because a manufactured home is built in a factory its construction is rarely subjected to delays due to bad weather. In addition, the process of building the same or similar unit over and over allows manufacturers a great deal of control over the construction. Many of the well-known manufactured home builders are well-regarded throughout the industry for creating excellent homes, solidly built to an exacting standard. Though it’s a misconception that a manufactured home can simply be driven away when the owner wants to sell or relocate, they are often much easier to move than a stick-built home. This provides the owner with greater options when it comes time to sell the property. The home and the land it sits on could be sold together, or the home could be sold on its own and transported to a new location
