Bhaal talking to you in the journal updates is fun, but honestly nothing in BG3 has topped the one-sided conversations you get to have with this asshole in your dreams during the original games. It nicely illustrated how Bhaal thinks of his spawn and also gives you a good idea of how the Dark Urge's nightmares usually go. I feel like I'm missing things without having to listen to his ego every other night.

Look at this A+ parenting! (These moments have lived in my head rent free for at least a decade so I'm sharing them.)

"Such pride is undeserved, great predator, when your whole being is borrowed. Credit where it is due, and dues where payment is demanded."

"You will learn."

This didn't work, so on his next attempt Bhaal did his best to ensure this kid would be tailored to obey and have no personality outside of being an extension of his will. Clearly his mistake was waiting until they were adults to start fucking them up, so - kill your family!

oh god i just want to listen to gale yap. watching him move his hands in excitement as he talks about his most recent read, delving into the details and plot points as his eyes light up and his voice can barely keep up with the speed of his thoughts! even if i don't understand a thing he's saying, i feel like he would stop every so often and recap, or ask me questions to make sure im not completely lost. following him as he hops from each train of thought to the next, his little brain going a million miles a minute as his voice literally gives out on him because hes just. so. happy! he loves to talk, he loves explaining things and it doesn't matter if you're familiar with the topic or not because he just likes to teach!!

i am once again thinking about the responses astarion approves of, when you approach the druid at the circus who gives the love trial.

the answers are light, and have truth to them, but they are also very guarded, compared to some of the other ones available. it says he likes when the mc plays with him, the give and take of banter. but it also says that astarion needs to trust that you're not going to just spout off his deepest thoughts and feelings to any random who asks. he needs to feel like he's safe, like his secrets are protected with you.

i think this is the most clear with the last two questions.

tell me, what does he desire more than anything? the druid, zethino, asks.

and you can say me, freedom, revenge, or a nice, tasty rat.

we know from astarion's personal quest that his constant scheming and attempts to seize power are all in a bid to secure his freedom from cazador's influence. and if you want to keep him from ascending, you have to point out that power won't give him the freedom he is seeking. i think you could make the arguement that freedom is something he wants even more than revenge on cazador for everything the vampire did to him. but astarion approves of 'revenge', is delighted when you give this answer.

(edit: i had more debate here but i did find a video of this with all responses, and astarion actually says in response to freedom basically 'you're not wrong, but do we have to tell everyone our business?')

clearly there's a focus on the answer that gives astarion the least exposure, rather than the 'right' one.

same goes for the last question.

fear sits in the soul of all—to tame it, we must name it. astarion—what is his deepest fear?

mc can answer sharp wooden sticks, breaking a nail, forever feeling like a slave to someone else, or most things fear him, actually

even though zethino has just said that you HAVE to name your fears or else they'll swallow you whole, answering the most obvious of these ('forever feeling like a slave to someone else') only brings disapproval from astarion. i chose 'most things fear him, actually' and he liked this answer, and i believe he approves of 'breaking a nail' as well. again, more flippant responses that still have truth to them.

and these answers show him that you see him enough to know that actually naming his deepest fear in this setting would be wildly uncomfortable for him at best and traumatizing at worst.

he's not ready for the world to know him yet, he's still processing two hundred years of 'pure shit'. i think it's super clever and subtle storytelling, and a way to show players that sometimes the 'right' answer isn't actually the one you need to automatically give, just to satisfy the need to be right, and to show other people how well you know astarion. the mc needs to show astarion that they do see him, enough to know how much he values safety and privacy after having it ripped away from him for centuries.

teth's pre-tadpole "looks";

Technically Teth is kind of ascetic when it comes to cloth. Mostly fond of simple fabrics or something that drapes over the body nicely, not limiting motion.

"Ritual" gear however is most fancy of possessed clothing items, bc let's face it, you've to look like you're leading something if you're head of Temple, even it means absconding underwear. Practical when you're getting some necrophilia in your business schedule too.

I love the cape Sceleritas gives us, it had to go somewhere. As the storm sorcerer's elements.

Also bc bhaalspawn's whole body is a weapon; you can be ass naked as wee baby and still wrangle life out of someone's body. It's a philosophy. Also reason for less restraining clothes "at home".

Out of home though: conceal don't feel, don't let it show. Also black goes well with being in the shadows. Don't touch the mask though.

Could be a bit of gender mystery when geared up right and talking in hushed voice, but there aren't too many curves there, don't be fooled.

Astarion, the silly goof that he is, started catching feelings all the way back when you first sleep together. So yes, it did matter.

This would also explain why he actually gets hurt if you tell him that you should only leave your rendezvous as a once time thing at the grove/goblin party.

If you pick this option btw -

Interestingly enough his eyes tear up and he laughs it off. He WANTS to be intimate with you but sadly it still brings all of the feelings of disgust and loathing which he felt throughout the years under Cazzador’s control. He probably only knows how to be close to somebody by being intimate with them, so that’s another reason why he cares about this whole intimate thing he has with you.

Anyway, yes his whole grand plan was to seduce you by sleeping with you, to gain your trust and protection, but it backfired, so if you do have sex with him, that doesn’t make you a bad person and you shouldn’t feel guilty about it.

No wonder he’s not a “details” kind of person when it comes to planning lol
