okay, somewhat semi coherent daredevil s3 thoughts

Everything Went Better Than Expected

not that i expected anything bad per se, but uh yknow...i was immensely worried about how they would portray bullseye re: mental illness, and i think they managed to pull it off fairly well by acknowledging that ITS THERE, naming it, and unpacking it while keeping the homicidal urges/psychopathic tendencies as a separate moral issue, even while both factors obviously intertwine and/or influence one another. he was sympathetic in some ways, and yet completely deplorable in others. you see his struggle to be better but it’s coupled with his obvious desire to Kill, and i loved the dichotomy there. i never once got the feeling that he was killing people simply BECAUSE of his mental illness (rather he’s compelled to do so because he enjoys it and the bpd feeds off of that when left unchecked) which is such an easy, awful trope to fall into and i’m just....so glad they took the time to develop that in a way that’s a little more nuanced and respectful. like. i’m honestly thrilled with what they did with him? i know some people were wary of him getting a concrete Origin Story, or background or being too sympathetic or whatever, but it worked well in the end, and still played into pieces of his comic canon & characterization.

i was REALLY hoping to see a glimpse of him in his own suit, or maybe even the scar but uhhh i shit my pants at the very end anyway so i’ll take what i can get lmao.

the fight scenes between him and matt had me screaming every single time. i love the way they portrayed his skill set. it was raw and visceral and hardhitting and violent, and everything i could have hoped to see between the two of them. and i was also so glad to see him and fisk turn on each other, even if part of me hoped it happened a little bit earlier.

overall, imo this was a fucking incredible way to introduce that character and i loved what they did with it and the potential going forward has given me literal goosebumps--though for as much as i loved this dex, i can’t wait to see Actual bullseye in the future.

SO ANYWAYS ON TO OTHER SUBJECTS REAL QUICK...

so relieved neither karen or foggy died. both the daily bulletin fight scene and the church scene had me so stressed but reuniting the two of them with matt at the end was so cathartic and beautiful, and they’re all in much better places and it’s nice to see after so long.

however i’m extremely bummed about ray nadeem. i knew he was going to die even before the season dropped bc i just had a fucking feeling. it’s frustrating and tiring that they continue to introduce AND KILL characters of color often for the advancement or favor of white characters :/

i don’t know what else to say atm bc i’m sleep deprived and evrything is swirling around all at once butuhhhhh overall i fucking loved this season.
