I wondered if people back home would ever know what it cost the soldiers to win this war. In America, things were already beginning to look like peace time. The standard of living was on the rise, race tracks and nightclubs were booming. You couldn't get a hotel room in Miami Beach, it was so crowded. How could anyone ever know of the price paid by soldiers in terror, agony, and bloodshed if they'd never been to places like Normandy, Bastogne, or Haguenau? reconcile the fact that Nixon followed Winters from OCS to the paratroops, that they were two officers born in the same year amongst a company of mostly 18-year old baby boys, that Winters was so impressed at Nixon getting him the support and ammo he needed at Brecourt and so flattered when Nixon asked him to give a lecture on leadership to the incoming officers after D-Day that he had to write in his memoir about how that 'cAuGhT mY AtTenTion', that immediately after Winters explains how you can't let yourself succumb to emotion at the loss of men while you're on the front-- lapses in his incredibly professional and technical recollection of the war to say that had he lost Nixon to that bullet to the helmet in Holland, that THAT WOULD BE HIS ONE EXCEPTION, that everyone went on leave to Paris and who knows where but Winters and Nixon were the only two officers spending their night on base together right before the news that the Ardennes offensive had broken through??????, that Nixon gave up his blessed leave to the States to stay on the front in Bastogne and help, oh I dunno, the general war effort I guess??, and not a singular, daily-shaving, suffering-in-silence 2nd Battalion XO????, that Winters unintentionally described Nixon's alcoholism as "BEAUTIFUL" because it meant Winters would watch over everything during the day while Nixon would watch over things for him during the night and that they were essentially a military match made in heaven (it's! on! record! the voice clip!! is out there!!!), that Winters looked at this stupidly handsome, post-demotion alcoholic on VE-Day and said.... u kno wat.... here's some more of the stuff..... i saved it all under special guard duty just 4 u.......enjoy......"bro"......., that Nixon was COMPELLED !!! COMPELLED !!!! to drag this guy's butt back home to Jersey with him after the war, that years after the show when Ron Livingston was asked what his favorite scenes to shoot/watch were, he brought up previously mentioned moment and describes loving the bromance aspect of it, and has the AU-DA-CI-TY to liken the tension in it to when you're "INVITING THE GIRL TO PROM" (?!?!?!?! his words!!! not mine!!!), that Winters was Nixon's best man AND gave the eulogy at his funeral, THAT--

Damn Jazz Back At It Again With The Helluva Boss Rambles

Back on my bullshit again with another post now that I’ve mellowed out from the shock of how shit that episode was lol

I wish mobile made it easier to add the “Keep Reading” tab but it’s fine

I’ve seen so many people go around being like “o it’s ok if Stella’s generic and not given more personality like everyone else because women can be bad didn’t you know that something something Amber Herd” and apparently anyone who thinks otherwise is just a Vivziepop hater who thinks she’s a misogynist (love the strawman shit mmm so juicy). And while evil for evil’s sake can be fun and cool in something like Sleeping Beauty (aka an adaptation of a fairy tale that’s already a story of “good vs evil”), why would you expect me to be chill with that in a show where the demons are, for the most part, more than just evil demons? If Stella was some minor, one-off character like that asshole imp guy at Loo Loo Land, that’d be one thing, but she’s not. She’s one of the main antagonists. This isn’t a “good vs. evil” story where you don’t need to worry about that kind of thing, Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel are supposed to be more than that. I’d be just as confused if Valentino or Vox, for every second of screentime they had, were doing nothing but going “haha rape haha prostitution haha tv is so cool” for 25 minutes and that’s it. But I digress.

I’m writing this because I was suddenly reminded of a character that’s basically what Stella could’ve been: Flowey. Flowey is just as volatile and agressive as Stella is, attacking you, killing you, and possibly having done countless genocide runs in the past with his own ability to RESET. Then, we get his backstory and find out who he used to be and why he’s the way he is. He’s an unfeeling sociopathic child. He was created with absolutely no way of feeling empathy because he has no SOUL. The child that he used to be is angry, longing for his past and his old friend, and was put into this situation for reasons that weren’t even his fault. Flowey is also a victim, but that doesn’t mean he can’t also be evil or do hurtful things. Whether or not you choose to show him pity or mercy is up to the player, but the fact that he’s that complex enough to warrant that choice is just part of Undertale’s writing. Hell, even Toriel is a better Stella than what Stella is in “canon”. I personally don’t like Toriel, but she does have depth to her (until the end where she just waltzes in and takes over the situation and no one does a thing to stop her because it’s Toriel and I guess everyone’s just chill with the traitorous queen coming in and acting like she’s in charge). Toriel comes in acting all sweet and nice, but is very clingy and definitely has issues with guilt and a black-and-white morality to justify her own actions. She’s not simply “ah, my child have some pie and we’ll be a family my child” 24/7. She’s a spiteful bitch, a hypocrite, and runs away from her problems. Again, this is because Undertale’s writing is (for the most part) consistent with giving it’s characters more depth underneath the memes and quotable dialogue.

Now, why am I writing all this about Undertale? Because it and HB/HH are on similar levels of writing. They both try to show more than just what’s at face value. Charlie is nice and sweet but will throw hands and has self-doubts, Alastor is everyone’s nightmare, but according to the comics, he does crave genuine interaction and is much nicer towards women (aside from Vaggie but my theory is that it’s because she’s not as feminine as Charlie or the Sheep Woman and far less easy to charm). So if Alastor, a mass murderer and cannibal who is more than likely going to do everything he can to mess with the Hotel’s success for his own entertainment, can have elements of good in him, then why the fuck can’t Stella? Oh, I know why, because Alastor isn’t interfering with the “romance”. I already didn’t like Stolitz before but Season 2 has nuked any chance of making me change my mind. This whole “romance” is being pushed so hard that it’s tainting the writing with retcons and things that just make no sense. Why would Octavia say “you ruined it” to Stolas in episode 2 if Stella was apparently just mean and nasty the whole time and Stolas was just soooo innocent? Why does the Ozzie’s song frame it like Stella and Octavia are victims of Stolas fucking up if Stella was always secretly the evil one and not Stolas? Why is Stolas ashamed if he was so proudly yelling about his divorce in front of her friends? Why is Goetia divorce a thing if the Goetia family looks down on it and sets up arranged marriages? Why the fuck is Stella just around and eating at the dinner table like they’re married if she can’t stand Stolas? Why is she ranting about Stolas being a cheater on the phone, if they’re separated and if she just doesn’t care about anything but money? And why the dickshit would Stella, someone who everyone is so fucking sure is only in it for her image, just blabbing about how shit her marriage is if that would just make her look like a loser who’s settling for trash? It makes no fucking sense unless it’s all just some poorly done retcon of earlier events. Hell, the pilot is supposedly non-canon, and yet a scene of it pops up in the new episode, so I can’t even be sure what’s true or not.

Sigh, but I guess at the end of the day, I saw this coming. They’re trying so hard to push Stolitz that the writing has to suffer for it. I’m not even sure I want to continue the series, if it’s just gonna become some genetic telenovela where everyone is so evil unless they wanna help Stolas in some way because he’s “such a victim”. I never wanted to have to write something like this and I sure as shit never foresaw myself reblogging critical content, but it is the way it is, I guess. But, that’s what rewrites and AUs are for, and I’ll be working on mine.

Rambling about social media (microblogging) apps

I used to love Twitter. I didn't post much there, but I was always online checking out memes, news, people's tweets. Then it got worse and worse. I started using Mastodon last year, and I recently got invited to Bluesky, which I wasn't even that interested in, but I didn't want to refuse and risk offending the person who invited me, haha... Anyway, here's what I think about them:

Bluesky is... okay, I guess. It's kinda cute, like a baby Twitter. It lacks basic features such as hashtags. It's kinda empty and boring. I heard it has moderation issues and it's getting flooded with furry porn, but I haven't run into either. What I see is mostly selfies and some cat pictures.

Now, Mastodon... I fucking love Mastodon, okay?! And I don't understand why most people won't give it a chance. I'm actually kinda addicted to it right now. People actually interact with me there, unlike in literally all other social media apps I'm in. I even found some Helluva Boss fans there. I can ramble about HB and bitch about Twitter there. It's so cool.

And unfortunately, I'm still lurking on Twitter, because the people I follow JUST WON'T LEAVE. Which would be, you know, fine, it's their right, except they do keep complaining that Twitter sucks and they can't stand it anymore. Like there aren't any alternatives... When... Mastodon is right there. Bluesky is invite-only for now, but hey, it's still there and people with invites are everywhere. Even fucking Threads is right there, even though I loathe Meta, and it's unavailable in the EU, and did I mention Mastodon is right there? It's available all over the world and open to the public. No data harvesting. No rage-inducing algorithm. No ads. No billionaire manchild in control of everything. No restrictions on how many posts you can view or how many DMs you can send. It's great.

Okay, back to Bluesky and Meta for a bit. What many people might not know is that these two platforms have the potential to be part of the fediverse along with Mastodon. This means that there's the possibility that someday users on Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon could all interact with one another as if it were the same thing. Meta has actually stated that they have plans to do this in the future. I don't know if they really will, and this topic has been very controversial across different Mastodon instances (servers), but I guess it'd be cool, if people absolutely refuse to come to Mastodon but join Threads, I could at least continue to follow them without having to join Threads myself.

So, here are a few more details about Threads, which I'm giving you second-hand because I haven't actually joined it. It's very algorithm-oriented. When it launched, it didn't even have a "following" tab, so you couldn't actually see the posts of people you were following. Which... kinda defeats the point of following. But apparently they just introduced such a tab, so that's progress! I don't think hashtags are a thing here either, though. The biggest problem with it, however, is that it requires a lot of your data. It's practically spyware, I've heard. And it's so bad that it's actually banned in the EU, where privacy laws are more strict. This is actually a huge hindrance to Threads, because the EU is a huge, important market. We'll see if they'll do anything about it. If they don't, Threads will probably become yet another Bluesky.

Okay, I'm tired of typing now. I'm going back to Mastodon now. See ya!

'im so annoyed im making everything so long' it's totally fine. you have life beside tumblr and it like.. takes time. so everything's fine. take your time. it's not a job or some real responsibility to have strict deadlines. dont forget to enjoy it all! it's exciting to know youre writing modern au (ok can we say wfal? anything i'm running out of symbols TT). hope it's not overwhelming or too much. T_T it was tiring. i was supposed to work out before i left for school because i work out every other day, but i woke up pretty early and so i didnt feel like working out, and it was a pretty good choice, i think, becAUSE WE DID SO MUCH MANUAL LABOR IN CARRYING EQUIPMENT BACK AND FORTH FROM THE 6th to 12th floor T_T LIKE BIG SPEAKERS AND DRUMS AND BOXES AND H:LAHF:ASF i was sweating T_T but it was pretty enjoyable i felt like i was the main character AHHAAHHAH even though i couldnt even perform like how i secretly wanted to. Hello there everyone! I am planning to work on another Animation Meme, called, Forget! If you didn’t knew, I made a poll on my Community Tab on YouTube, and the first one chosen, was Forget. So what I did, I added some characters that were gonna be in it. Milo from Morbius, Arthur Harrow from Moonknight, and DreamyBullXX, aka, Ambatukam. Roofs are awful in ts3 for sure. Also I can't even get my free camera to work in live mode so yr ahead of me. Tab doesn't do it. I have the steam version so maybe that is part of it?

Maybe? I’m hardly an expert, though. :) The TAB and F10 keys both work fine for me in live mode but not in Edit Town mode, which is apparently normal. I’m playing with only the base game, which I bought used on disk, and World Adventures, which I downloaded via Origin. I do have all EPs, and they’re all installed, but my computer doesn’t like it if I actually use them all; the game crashes all the time. The base game has the most up-to-date patch...I think. It’s 1.69 blah blah blah. I’ve got a few Nraas mods now, some default replacement skins, and a small amount of build mode CC, but other than that it’s vanilla.

What you're dealing with is totally normal. Most people drop a sim in town somewhere to switch to live mode for better pictures

Ah, thank you! I will now stop worrying about maybe having screwed up the game with the few Nraas mods I’ve downloaded. :) I figured on taking pics in live mode if I had to, but I just found it hard to believe that Edit Town didn’t have a free camera. Don’t know WHY I thought that a Sims game would be logical, of course. *eye roll*

Speaking of which: The roofs? Awful. Would it have killed them to have the little TS2 tool where you could specify a pitch to use on a given roof section? Instead, there’s this slider bullshit that, try as I might, I just can’t get the bits to match up exactly? Bah, I say. BAH!

I love Garak too, what a great character!! DS9 is underrated. Our birthdays are very close as well, I'm April 20!

DS9 got a lot of crap from Trek fans, most of whom said that it “wasn’t Star Trek” or “wasn’t Roddenberry enough.” And that may very well be true. But for me, both of those were pluses. TNG damages my teeth with its “The Federation/Starfleet is awesome and perfect and can do no wrong” thing because I’m clenching my jaw so much when watching. Damn, it even neutered the Klingons. Which sucked! (Thankfully, DS9 sort of fixed that, too. ;) ) Yeah, sure, it’s Roddenberry’s pet utopia all right, which he never got to do as much as he wanted in the original series, but it’s also bull. Humans aren’t going to change that much in just a couple hundred years. They just aren’t. If this election cycle in the US taught us anything, it’s that. So, I’ve always appreciated DS9′s grittiness and its political-ness and its outsider (and not appreciative) point-of-view on the Federation and Starfleet. Its first couple of seasons are slow and its last season pretty much sucked and the series didn’t have a satisfying ending at all, but IMO it’s pretty tough to beat from about mid-second season to the end of the sixth, especially the Dominion War arc.

And yes, Garak is awesome and Andrew Robinson is a helluva an actor. :) I don’t think the character was even meant to recur like he did, to the point that he was practically a regular, but his awesomeness just could not and would not be contained in one or two episodes. :) Obviously, he was among the writers’ faves. :) Dukat is amazing as well with his villain/uneasy ally/villain flip-flopping, plus the tension with Kira. Too bad he wigged out in the end, though. :( Hell, Cardassians in general are awesome little sleazeballs. I *heart* them. :)
