#things i've incorporated into my like daily speech are:
Note
Greeeetings~~!!
I just finished listening to episode 26 of Life with Althaar and I just wanted to say - thank you. I don't have any other words for you but thank you so much. I never thought this is the route this show would take when I started listening to it but this single episode made me so glad to have put upwards of 50 hours listening to this show. On to season 3!
Also I absolutely love the characters' cadences, especially Althaar's. I too often find myself emulating his speech patterns. It's also impressive how natural the HEC lingo sounds and I've already subconsciously incorporated some of it into my daily lexicon. Is there an official list of Fairgrounds vocab available anywhere?
I eagerly look forward to seeing (or listening to I suppose) what comes next. All the best for future episodes and for the entire crew's other ventures!
Hello there and thank you so much! We here at Collisionwork Central are seriously carried forward by audience reaction, and it means the world to us.
First off, I apologize if you catch up in Season Three to where we unexpectedly left off before new episodes drop. We ARE working on the last 7 or 8 episodes (one may be so long it becomes a two-parter, which, given the length of some previous episodes, is saying something), and my (Ian's) goal was to still finish by the end of the year. More things have come up with cast schedules to make that less likely, but we WILL be back ASAP. Berit, the writers, the cast, and I are all devoted to this story, and finishing it. Stuff just got in the way for a while, and the Althaar path is still being cleared.
And let me see if Berit is good with putting out the Althaariverse Slang Glossary! We do have one in-house, as part of the constantly-updated Show Bible, so it would be easy to format and post, but B is the ultimate decision-maker on everything Althaar. While we'll save sharing the Bible and Updates for our eventual self-published print volumes of scripts, I think sharing the slang would be a nice thing for the time being - SOMETHING for the listeners as they wait so patiently.
Thanks for the kind words on Episode 26. We knew we'd be getting there for two years before we did, and we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to get it right. We knew the whole 40-episode story of Althaar before we wrote any of it, but we never had any idea how it would actually feel when the characters had voices and were put in these situations. It became a bit more distressing to write (as much as we remind ourselves, "It's STILL a wacky comedy!").
Sorry for such a lengthy response (can you tell from the show how long-winded we can be?), but I'm mostly bedridden and bored these days, without the mental focus to write the show as fast as I was, so social media eats up a lot of time, and I do love hearing from fans of Althaar. Again, it really keeps B&I going. Thanks.

✨ Dream Girl Guide ✨
After reading @2pretty's Dream Girl Guide, I knew it was time to get down to business and also set some serious goals for the rest of year.
Although I have evolved a lot in the past year and managed to incorporate a lot of new beneficial habits, I feel like there is still room to grow and glow-up. So let's make the next 6 months count and hold myself accountable with this post to keep myself on track. 💕
The dream girl version of myself is an elegant, graceful and witty beauty, who is worldly and speaks multiple languages. She oozes confidence and enchants her surroundings with her knowledge, wit and charm. She seizes opportunities when she sees them and unapologetically asks for what she wants. She has clear boundaries and does not let any man or woman disrespect her or her boundaries. Her home is always spotless and smells fresh, she is completely on top of her house chores. She has a trim figure, which he tones through consistent workouts. She has a booty!! she built in the gym. People want to be around her energy, she is grounded and calm and practices mindfulness on the daily. June
✨ Ramping up my Chinese ✨
I am staying in Taiwan for the summer on a Chineses language scholarship. Initially it was more to just revise what I have forgotten last year and enjoy a covid free summer, but now I really want to push my command of the language to new heights. I will study 2-3 hours per day (next to my daily language course) and try to seize every opportunity to really further my Chinese and not fall back to using English. It is going to be uncomfortable and awkward sometimes, but it will pay off.
July
✨ Confidence and Charm ✨
I will use July to explore the dating scene in Taiwan and also use this opportunity to further build my self-confidence and charm when it comes to men. This may sound like an unusual quality to train, but i want to make it my goal to feel completely unintimidated and at ease around men. I will clearly state my boundaries at all times and not allow anyone to push or violate them. I will state my wants and needs and see who rises to the occasion or not. I will only focus on men's action and not their words. This month will also give me the opportunity to discover more about myself.
August
✨ Finding a killer Job ✨
August will the month of intense job-search and career exploration. I have already polished my resumé and I will send out at least 15 job applications. Next to that, I will do extensive research on graduate / Masters programs and decide at which universities and for which programs I will apply.
September
✨ Booty time ✨
I will work out at least 4 times per week, really focus on high protein intake and a good mixture between strength and cardio workouts + stretching. I will focus on finally growing that peach of mine 🍑. In edition, I will do this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5HBnDig8hY&t=5s) 8 min posture exercise video every day to strengthen my back and help me look more graceful and elegant.
October
✨ Work of Art✨
October will be the month of Art. I've always wanted to get more acquainted with it, so in October I will research about the Art world at least 3 hrs per week, get more familiar with the different art periods, artists and styles. Plus I will try to visit at least 2 galleries.
November
✨ Minimalism / Essentialism✨
Before the Christmas mayhem starts, I want to refocus on minimalism and essentialism, being intentional with the items and things in my life. Essentially Marie Kondo-ing my life. Decluttering my apartment and closet, taking inventory of what I own, what needs to be polished and better taken of or what needs to be replaced. I will revisit my minimalism habits and check if i have kept on track with them during the year (e.g. am I buying things because I really need them and will serve me in the long run or I am I buying emotionally and/or instant gratification?). I will try my best to make this a no-buy November, unless the item is essential to my life / growth or if I have to replace something.
December
✨ Slow, clear and intentional speech✨
I know that a lot of people tell me that I sometimes speak to fast and unclear, thus making it hard for people to follow and keep up with what I am saying. As I fear it could sometimes diminish my presence and credibility, I will actively use December to try and work on this. Whether that is through guided speech exercises that I will look up online, or get a speech the therapist, remains to be decided.
I have sketched out my plan for the rest of 2021 and plan to revisit my dream girl guide at the end of December, to plan anew and adjust and recalibrate accordingly for 2022 ️.
✨ Let the glow-up gods shine their light upon me ✨

Chapter Two
Tumblr media
⇨ Dragonborn!Todoroki x Tribe Chief Descendant!Reader
⇨ An AU in which Reader is apart of a tribe that lives to fight against a mythical group they call the Ice Dragons. One day, the Reader’s tribe fellows bring in a young man - an alleged Dragonborn, descended from their worst enemy. The young chief in line, whose heart is too compassionate to kill an innocent, convinces the raging tribe to keep him alive for research purposes, while they set out to free the captive, but the story turns out to be much more complicated than what they thought it would be...
⇨ Reader’s Quirk: Groundbreaker - the ability to bend and manipulate earth and rock in all of their varieties (think Earthbending). The Quirk’s drawback is incredible soreness and temporary muscle paralysis after prolonged usage.

Disclaimer: Characters are all aged up. The story doesn't follow the exact plot of the manga/anime, although it has some elements incorporated (ofc, it's fanfiction)

Thank you for showing interest in my story!
Tumblr media
Your pulse thumps inside your skull, drowning out the shouting of your tribe members. You were looking at a living, breathing descendant of your ultimate fascination.
"Kill him!"
"NO!" you shrieked, instinctively activating your Quirk to create a separation between the Dragonborn and the rest of the tribe.
His chains clattered as he tried to crawl away from the rising rocks, but if you were him, you'd choose that over a feral horde.
You had to think fast and effectively. The status of Chief in producing was going to buy you some time, for you believed your fellows would at least wait out the Council Members and their pupils' decision. You glanced around, looking for the faces of your fellows. To your relief, Midoriya and another representative Iida were already approaching you, with no signs of hostility towards the secured Dragonborn behind you. In the crowd, Yaoyorozu and Bakugou were trying to lessen the commotion.
"Deku, you were part of the hunting team," your voice was barely loud enough to be heard. "How and where did you find him??"
"It happened so fast, (Name). We were tracking down a few deer and ended up near a cave. We found him inside, and the entire cave was frozen." Izuku pointed somewhere behind himself. "Uraraka and I thought he needed help, but he tried to knock me out when we came closer. So she shackled him. What's with the whole ordeal of killing him??"
You couldn't avoid giving him a brief explanation of your discovery. It felt like you were a bad omen - it hadn't been over an hour since you told the tribe about the fruit your studies bore and a Dragonborn popped up in your village, in the flesh and bone. And scales.
The moment the thought circulated inside your head, the candle of realization lit up. Pushing past Izuku and Iida, you knocked yourself up on a platform.
"Attention, please!" the murmurs slowly died down, hundreds of eyes glancing up. "I know you are scared, and I do not condemn you for that. But please, be rational! The Dragonborn was found by accident and by himself. Although not many Ice Dragons have survived our fervent pursuit, I'm sure plenty of them have at least produced offsprings."
You stopped for a second, contemplating your next few sentences.
"I propose we keep him alive. We are an entire tribe, maybe the strongest of all known, and what strength do we hold if we cower under the threat of one single Dragonborn? We know little of them, and if they were to come to avenge their fallen parents, we'd be at a disadvantage until we come to know their nature. Let's keep this one as a source of information. I will personally conduct research and carry responsibility for the Dragonborn."
People nodded their heads in approval. Bakugou and Yaoyorozu stared at you as if you'd grown a third head, but you couldn't care less, relief blossoming in your chest. Midoriya placed his hand on your shoulder to offer comfort and you smiled weakly at the gesture.
You didn't allow yourself to rest for too long, immediately dissolving your makeshift platform and the wall separating your newest tribe addition and you. A pair of mismatched eyes glared up at you as you took ahold of his chains. Did he understand your speech at all?
Well, that was one of many things you were yet to find out. For now, you'd have to gather with the Tribe Chiefs and discuss the situation.
Tumblr media
The uncomfortable silence was driving you crazy. As if having to watch over the Dragonborn while he bathed, then giving him clothing and cutting his hair wasn't awkward enough already. You couldn't blame him for looking like he despised you.
"Um, hey?"
Nothing was your answer. You cleared your throat and poured tea in two cups.
"Can you understand me?"
This time it was rustling of clothes and pulling his chains against the ground.
"Look, I'm sorry I put it out like that, but they were going to vote for killing you!" you couldn't keep the desperate tone down. "I know you probably hate me, but I just wanted to help and-"
"I can understand your speech, human."
You whirled around at the quiet, deep voice. He was staring right at your eyes, unflinching. "Remove these in an instant."
You shook your head, instead handing him one of the steaming cups, "I cannot do that. They're going to harm you if I do."
"They can try." your hand remained outstretched and he made no movement to approach your offering.
"Listen, I am not your enemy. But I'm not the one in charge here, so the decision about letting you go is not up to me. If not tea, would you like some food?"
"Don't act friendly. We're not friends," he spat through gritted teeth and you couldn't help but sigh.
Slamming down the teacup on the ground seemed to startle him. You deadpanned.
"Listen here, I know this situation is absolute shit for you, but kindly cooperate with me. At least I have good intents regarding your presence here," you chuckled. "What were you gonna do, fight the tribe? Our strongest men have pushed your ancestors ten lands away. Chief Yagi would've singlehandedly punched you into oblivion and Chief Todoroki would've deep-fried you had you attempted to use your ice powers on him. He's a walking campfire."
The Dragonborn seemed shocked that you knew about his ice powers. At least your short temper one-upped his hostility this time. You rose to your feet, ready to retire to your corner of the shared tent.
"But I have fire powers as well."
You weren't sure if you had heard him correctly. Now it was your turn to look shocked.
The rising sun found you at your desk, not having slept a bit.
"I don't know if that can be true," you muttered. "The sources say they have ice powers and fire is their weakness. Is he some abnormality?"
You should be documenting this. You should be reporting to your tribe leaders now. It's your duty to them and yet you hesitate. Would they kill him if you tell them?
A drop of ink splatters onto the parchment, shaking you out of the daze. You put away your quill and discard all the materials on the table. For now, just now, you decide to keep the Dragonborn's secret safe.
You can spot him in the corner of the tent, breathing steady as he sleeps. Maybe you should sleep too, even if for a bit, then grab some black tea from your tribe healer.
"Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do," you mutter under your breath and flop against the furs on your bed.
You're out like a light as soon as your head hits the pillow.
Tumblr media
"(Name), daily report about the Dragonborn," five pairs of eyes were staring you down. "Go."
You inhale deeply and try to ignore the heart hammering against your ribcage.
"He understands our language completely and can speak it. Strong ice powers that barely sit within his body. The chains have been covered in frost for as long as I've been with him. He didn't try to fight or hurt me. He's harmless."
Your senior and fatherly figure, Aizawa Shota, nods his head at the words. You glance to the left, swallowing thickly as traitorous guilt burns inside your throat like bile.
"Very well, then. Do you have any requests or additional reports to make?" the head of the council, Chief Yagi, asks you with a kind smile stretched across his face.
"May I have some healing ointment?" you blurt out, startling the whole council.
"What for?"
"The chains are rubbing the scales on his wrists which causes them to fall out. It looks painful and leaves wounds."
"You seem to be quite sensible, (Name)," Chief Nemuri* remarks, smirking. "Very well. Come with me to the healer once we're done here."
You nod and bow before exiting the tent. The five tribe chiefs exchange looks between each other, then wordlessly get up and go back to their duties.
Tumblr media
"Stop squirming, boy,"
The Dragonborn sneers at your words. "I am sure we're the same age."
You stare at him and sigh, "Okay, same-age-boy, stay still. The ointment is going to sting a lot, but at least your wrists won't hurt too much."
His right wrist is cold to the touch but his left one feels like he has a fever. For a second your fingers linger on the skin as you think. If he has Ice powers and a fire quirk, were they distributed on the opposing sides of his body? Before you could conclude, he shakes off your hands.
"Better now?" you ask while wiping your hands over your trousers.
Silence, but you'd guess he's good to go.
"Do you have a name?"
"A name?" he replies, mismatched eyes squinting.
You nod and he speaks again, "What do you need it for?"
"I'm tired of referring to you or calling you by 'Dragonborn', 'uhm', makeshift nicknames and 'oi'," you shudder. "The 'oi' makes me feel like Bakugou and that's weird."
Silence again, which makes you sigh. If he kept it up with the silent treatment, your cover of a devoted researcher will be blown before you figure out what to do with him. Maybe you should simply leave him alone, you think, and get up to move away.
"Shōto. That's my name." you smile weakly and tell him your own.
The conversation dies after and you're alone with your thoughts again. Shōto. It reminded you of someone you knew a long, long time ago. The beloved wife of Chief Todoroki, who passed away during a particularly hard winter. You're warm with loving memories of her and your mom knitting together while you told them new stories you had learned that day.
Then you freeze on the spot, terrified. The dead wife of you Tribe leader, a woman with snow-white hair and piercing gray eyes, specific physical traits your kind was incapable of possessing, at least not both at the same time. But now you could think of one that could, a half-offspring of theirs quietly eating right behind you.
Well, shit.

Word count: 1,034. I seem to like the number 1,030.
first few chapters will be shorter until I get the setting right. I hope you enjoyed.

Kuan
By Emma Angela Cayton
The word 'kuan' had been an arguably, great part of our daily lives. It had spread just like a virus, in which any person can be infected. "Shhh! Dili lagi magsaba saba ba kay makuan ka sa kuan." The word 'kuan' had been one among the same old words that at all times I hear. 'So what is the purpose of your study?' our research adviser asked 'Uhm... Kuan ma'am... Kuan...The purpose of our study is kuan.. " Kuan here, kuan there, kuan everywhere.
So for now, let us all see how does the word 'kuan' being used. The word kuan is applicable in hesitant speech, or in order to show uncertainty in reference to something. The word kuan is used as a placeholder name on occasion of a thing, person, time, quantity, quality, place, is temporarily forgotten, unknown, irrelevant, deliberately being avoided, or understandable by means of the context to the people involved within the conversation. The proposed meaning can also be understood depending on the preposition or article used. For example, si kuan will always refer to a person (For the word si in Bisaya means he/she), while sa kuan can refer to a time, place, or thing (depending on context and its position in the sentence).
Different situations where we usually face the word 'kuan'.
'Asa man nimo gibutang ang kuan? Where did you put the whatdoyoucallitagain? Instead of saying, "Asa man nimo gibutang ang charger?" (Where did you put the charger?) The situation here is that someone is actually looking for the charger but has forgotten the word for "charger". And what does he use as a filler for the word "charger"? He used "kuan." This it the kind of situation that I wanted to avoid as much as I can. Let me just illustrate to give you a broader understanding about this situation. My mom would say, 'Kuhaa sa tong kuan kaw' then I just stand there waiting for her to finish the sentence she wanted to convey. But ofcourse since she already forgot that she did not actually said the word, she will just scold at me and I need to shut my mouth and absorb all the things she wanted to say. Sometimes 'kuan' is also used to replace a word that is something that you don't want to mention, especially in the event of the word has a sexual meaning or if the word is actually inappropriate or offensive. She is such a flirt. Kuan kaayo siya. Another situation is when of the people involved in the conversation already knew who or what they are actually talking about. 'Hoy nakita nimo tong myday ni kuan? ' (Have you seen his/her facebook story?) Familiar? Or even when the people involved in the conversation and the person they are talking about is around. 'Hoy naa si kuan sa imong likod oh! ' (Hey he / she's behind you!) More likely my friends and I usually get involved in this kind of situation when their crushes are around.
In this part of my essay we would try to see how he word 'Kuan' is being used in the Chinese culture. Surprisingly the word 'kuan' is kinda popular in their country. Since the word 'kuan' is used to name a child in China, I have included a statement that would explain why in their cultures names are important. Names in China are very crucial since it gives you a great insight into their family and background. Unlike the other countries, (where names are often chosen based on whether the parents happen to ‘like’ the name). Sometimes parents name their children based on their forebears. Where parents recycle their forebear's name in naming their children. But let us all try to focus why does name play a very crucial value in Chinese culture. According to Paul Chong (2010), "Since history began, Chinese have always believed in the significance of one’s name. They have developed a very comprehensive system of naming their children as it is believed that the name of a person strongly influences one’s destiny and fate. Astrologers, fortune tellers, academics and monks are often consulted when choosing a name for the new born. The other cultures, however do not really believe in it and tend to brush it off as superstition." This just show how inclined the Chinese in their culture are. The word 'Kuan' had been used in China as a name. The true meaning of ‘Kuan’ (in China) cannot be described with just a few words. Kuan is a name that means a highly charged personality that attracts potent ideas. Kuan are diplomatic, gentle, intuitive, cooperative, and might even be a psychic.
But wait there's more. Kuan had been also a name of a Chinese pottery of the Sung period in the 12th century. Let us try to know the origin of 'Kuan' pottery in China. The editors of encyclopaedia Britannica explains that, "Guan kilns, Pinyin Guan yao, or Wade-Giles Kuan yao, Chinese kilns known for creating an imperial variety of stoneware during the Song dynasty (AD 960–1279). After the Song royal court moved to the south, Guan kilns produced ware from about 1127 at Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. One of the official kilns, Jiaotan, has been located by scholars near Wugui Shan (Tortoise Hill); many rich examples of the ware were unearthed there. Guan ware was characterized by a wash of brown slip and by glazes varying from pale green to lavender blue. Artisans often applied brown pigment to emphasize a wide-meshed network of cracks."
I have found out that the word 'kuan' is also referred to a goddess of compassion in Chinese Bodhisattva. (A bodhisattva is defined by Kosho Uchiyama (2016) as an "ordinary person who takes up a course in his or her life that moves in the direction of Buddha.") Goddess Kuan Yin or Quan Yin is again referred to the goddess of compasion and mercy. Because of this Quan Yin/ Kuan Yin is portrayed in pouring wisdom and compassion from a sacred vase, also she you can also see images of her holding children or giving something to those who are in need. She is also defined by Rodika Tchi (2019) as "one of the major deities in Buddhism and one of the most popular deities used in feng shui." Rodika Tchi also stated that "The One with a Motherly Compassion, She who Hears the Cries of the People are the Quan Yin's attributes. A great protector and benefactor, her heart is full of deep compassion and unconditional love; her energy is God-like. As such, Quan Yin is welcomed in many feng shui applications and is one of the most popular (and sacred) feng shui cures. Due to her commitment to helping humans, she is approached with any concerns, troubles, or worries. Be it family, career, health or relationships, no trouble is too big to be brought to the motherly and all-powerful energy of Quan Yin." I know you have been really fascinated at the same time infowhelm by how the word 'kuan' had been used by the Chinese but wait there's more! The word 'kuan' is also a courtesy name of a Chinese landscape painter of the Song Dynasty. The Travelers among Mountains and Streams, a large hanging scroll, is Fan Kuan's best known work and it had been given idea to the new generation painters (in which it have been given them an inspiration). The historian Patricia Ebrey explains her view on the painting that the: "...foreground, presented at eye level, is executed in crisp, well-defined brush strokes. Jutting boulders, tough scrub trees, a mule train on the road, and a temple in the forest on the cliff are all vividly depicted. There is a suitable break between the foreground and the towering central peak behind, which is treated as if it were a backdrop, suspended and fitted into a slot behind the foreground. There are human figures in this scene, but it is easy to imagine them overpowered by the magnitude and mystery of their surroundings."
Too bad for the word 'kuan' due to the fact that in our culture 'kuan' more likely to be used as an interjection. Unlike in the Chinese culture where using the word 'kuan' are used on the occasion of naming a child that is incorporated with a certain personality. Also the word 'Kuan' in China had been also a part of their culture in the terms where, China used to call a type of pottery as 'Kuan'. Although hearing the word 'kuan' again and again might be really annoying, but it was really fascinating to learn that this word actually means more than what we already knew. After all the information that I had throughout this essay. I've remembered the quote 'Never stop learning because life never stops teaching.' This made me realize that we should never settle for the things that we already knew and always yearn for something new.
Lastly, may the 'kuan' be in your favor.

Worldbuilding with Psychology
I haven't mentioned this before, but I'm close to graduating with a psychology degree. As I was organizing things to move back in at university, I came across some notes from my Developmental Psych class. Psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner presented an ecological systems model of child development, which represents a dynamic model of how people develop psychologically depending on their environment. I realized this may be an interesting reference for writers as we consider worldbuilding.
Tumblr media
The individual is at the center. Each level interacts with the others and may affect them in different ways and to different degrees at different times. The individual is at the center of the model and has inherent traits which are the result of genetics. The microsystem is the individual's most immediate surroundings. These are the places and people they come into close contact with on a daily basis, including the home and peer groups. The way microsystems treat the individual influence them, but the behavior of the individual also influences how the microsystems react to them. The mesosystem is essentially comprised of links between microsystems - between home and school, between home and church, between family and peers. Active involvement between microsystems promotes harmony and a sense of like-mindedness. The exosystem consists of linkages between systems that do not directly influence the individual, but do so indirectly by influencing a microsystem. For instance, the parents' workplaces influences the parents' behavior in the presence of the individual. The macrosystem consists of more distant influences that still have a significant impact on the individual. These elements often include beliefs, values, and other aspects of culture. For instance, life in a country at war will influence an individual differently than life in a country at peace. The chronosystem simply incorporates the meaningful passage of time. What is in each system, how much it affects an individual, and how can all shift in time.
What does this have to do with worldbuilding?
One can relate Bronfenbrenner's model to creating a fictional sense of place however one likes, but I've drawn some parallels between each level and a corresponding element in worldbuilding. The model looks something like this.
Tumblr media
The Protagonist:
The main character (or characters) lies at the center of your worldbuilding. It is through their eyes, or over their shoulder, that the reader experiences the world in which your story is set. A strong sense of place is vital to telling a satisfying tale, and a great deal of it comes down to your protagonists. Like in the original model, the protagonist has certain inborn traits that are a result of nature, but are also influenced by nurture - the other systems, in this case. The world is reflected in the hearts, minds, and behaviors of the people who live in it, and the people are reflected in the world they populate.
The Supporting Cast:
These are the people the protagonists interacts with most, and it's a two-way street of influence. Their behavior influences the protagonist, but the protagonist affects them as well. You can present a great deal of information about the world through the interactions between characters. The way your protagonist interacts with parents and siblings can reveal family structure and dynamics, and interactions with friends or coworkers can shine light on social classes, pastimes, or employment. What your characters do, how they do it, and how they speak or feel about it will reveal what is normal or not.
The Immediate Surroundings:
Where are all these interactions taking place? The actual physical locales in seen in your story have an impact on the way people behave, but don't forget the direct effect of setting the scene. One behaves differently at school, as opposed to the mall - how can you use differences like this to portray societal norms and mores in your story? Additionally, the events and values of a world leave physical reminders, which may be as simple as smog over a city unconcerned by or incapable of controlling pollution. Perhaps there is graffiti in the streets leftover from social or political unrest. The remnants of a torn-down shrine or monument may reflect changing values, war, or persecution of certain religions or other groups. Living conditions can portray class differences. Possibilities are endless.
The Social Structure and Culture:
Social structure has ramifications on who can interact with whom and what's considered appropriate. These rules may be very strict or much more informal. If there are rigorous separations in place according to class, an interaction between members of different status will be shocking to your characters. Speaking out against an elder coworker may have severe consequences, or employees may be under forced retirement deadlines - these differences reveal if old age is revered or looked down upon. What holidays do people celebrate, and how? What manners of speech or behavior are unique to the setting? Social norms will be reflected in the behavior of your characters, but the population is capable of changing those norms.
The Physical Setting:
The setting at large still has far-reaching influence on your story. The geography itself will determine a number of things about the setting, including the landscape, weather, physical resources available, methods of transportation and more. All of these things trickle down into each of the layers beneath it and leave their fingerprints. If transportation is unfavorable, how does this affect information and cultural exchange? How about the economy? The physical setting is an umbrella of elements which may change everything under it, even in small or indirect ways.
The Genre:
The genre determines, amongst a few other things, how much of each of the above is needed. In essence, genre can be your guide to where you should place your focus in worldbuilding. Fantasy and science fiction often call for a greater emphasis on the physical setting and cultures, while realistic fiction set in real-life places readers are likely to be familiar with is likely to need emphasis on the protagonist and supporting cast. Some genres, such as historical fiction, may need a more evenly balanced blend of each system. The plot structure itself will also have an influence. For instance, in a 'pursuit' plot, the ticking clock and pursuit itself are typically considered of more import than the characters, while 'forbidden love' plots are all about the people and culture.
Remember, as always, to mold writing advice to your work and not the other way around. The influence of one or more of these systems may be heightened or lessened, depending on the needs of your story, and they may interact differently, perhaps even from chapter to chapter. Thank you for reading, and I hope this can be a useful model for you to use as a springboard in some of your worldbuilding.
