Im he/they myself so some of these may be self-projecting. A lot are joking, but some are legit examinations. I also hc that gender is a lot more accepted as fluid amongst demons than in a lot of celestials. pls respond with your own thoughts:

They always always have each other's back and they're so ride or die for each other in a world where everything is uncertain and either of them could die in the war games at any minute and- sorry sorry I'm just. They're so much!

A NOTP I have with said character: Honestly? N/A I think Yeet should get a little kissy and I don't really mind who he gets it from!!!

A random headcanon: Yeet and Killa end up kinda loaded by the end of s1 - they even have a house and everything! But I think transitioning to a life where they can just,,, be kids without having to fight to the death every day to put food on the table,,, is pretty difficult for the both of them. I think Yeet probably goes hunting for their food rather than buying it at the various markets around them - frugality is a habit at this point even if they're relatively well-off, and the satisfaction of having a successful hunt curbs his adrenaline cravings. How he manages to be stealthy with a skateboard for feet? Idk but I'll leave that up to your imagination.

General Opinion over said character: BELOVED. He is so cool and pretty,,, if I was a teen in the Forgotten Realms he would awaken the comphet in me I just know it.

Sexuality Headcanon: Shifts between aroallo and aroace for me depending on the day! Girl does not give a fuck about romance. Why would she when there is Killing and Maiming to be done

Gender Headcanon: She is soooooooo trans to me actually. Unbeatable tgirl swag nobody is doing it like her!!! She/they as well but with a heavy emphasis on the she.

A ship I have with said character: Don't really have one! She could pull anyone she wanted to though and I respect her so hard for that.

A BROTP I have with said character: I already said Yeet and Killa for Yeet's, so here, I think I'll go with Killa and Grant! I don't see them talked about a whole lot but I think their dynamic could be soooo interesting! Like you've been fighting for the majority of your life and all of a sudden this new kid gets shipped in and he's clearly not from anywhere you've ever been and he's wearing strange clothes but you can see the relief in his face when he spots you and your brother for the first time. And this kid is so clearly out of his depth and he's anxious and scared and he gets kinda sad sometimes but goddamnit, you want to see him get out of this alive. Even when his brain function seems to shut down around Yeet. Perhaps especially then, because it's nice to see someone besides you caring about your sibling for once.

A NOTP I have with said character: I'm pretty open to anything, but I definitely couldn't see Killa with any of the kiddads. Sorry!

A random headcanon: Killa is pretty good with hair! She always does Yeet's for him and helps him out on wash days - I imagine it's pretty hard to style your own hair without a mirror, so Killa and Yeet will help wash and style each other's. A small amount of Killa's portion of award money always goes toward hair products and cute little hair accessories like cuffs and beads and such - it's something that can remind them both that there's more to life than just the games. And, of course, it gives both of them a few more cool points, which is very important. Gotta slay while you slay, yk!

General Opinion over said character: CRIMINALLY underrated. I love her so much and I need to know more about her. Please please please bring her and Yeet back for s2 Anthony. Please it would be so cool,,,

This is going to be long and barely coherent/word salady but here you go friend Merin :)

Okay so... Deck of Phoenix. Prefacing this with with the fact DoP's message is about finding your own way to deal with trauma of all kinds. All of the characters have their own trauma and deal with it in different ways for better or worse LOL! LMAO! The main 6 we have for the cast are Neptune, Vikki, Teresa, Twilip, Ichigo and Salem. Salem is Ollie's OC that got absorbed into the story and became one of the linchpins in Ichigo's backstory (Childhood friends who were kinda romantic then shit happened and then OUAHGAHFDHGgeF anyways)

The magic system in the story is really complicated to explain because it really only makes sense in my brain at the moment and it's supposed to be universal across many different alien worlds :) Hehe! Did I mention this is a fantasy sci-fi? In the way of a fantasy world in a sci-fi setting!!! HEHEHHE!

Every person/soul is born with an ability that aligns with two sigils (magic types) and it can range from something extremely powerful and useful to something that never even manifests. An example of the latter would be a character we have; she seemed powerless until she died because her power was to revive permanently when brought back by a necromancer. Back to the main characters! Neptune canonically has schizophrenia, he has the ability to see the future of someone when he looks them in the eyes, which is how the story starts and also how he finds out he saves the universe from an evil tyrant called Paradox (Name might be temporary, idk lol) But yeah he has a character arc that might be spoilers so i'll explain on discord but it makes his schizophrenia so so soooo much worse <3 <- Projecting my problems onto him. (Also he is the only human in the group)

Vikki's powers are under construction but! She is basically the glue holding the crew together and is a satyress :3 She likes ballet and is the sweetest person you'll ever meet unless you get on her bad side HFGJEHFVQ Also she's built like a centaur and it's so cool to meee cuz I love drawing non-human characters

Teresa is like if Doc was a Loverboy and also a necromancer >:) I'm thinking about giving her the weird gender swag just to make one of the others the only cis person in the group TKYURLF (Twilip) Xe's an alien from a desert planet and is kinda a cyclops lynx/kangaroo mouse and she kinda looks like a vortigaunt now that I think about it..

Twilip. How do I even explain... He's like if Boomer (bubby x coomer) was a person tbh.. Cranky old man who gives tutorials and worked at a library and he misses his late wife so so much :( BUT he has a swag ass pen that can make drawings come to life and he's about the size of a cat btw if you even care <3 /ref

Ichigo... WHERE DO I START. Ichigo's been our OC since we were a KID! So they technically have the deepest lore due to sheer time scale soooo.. They use any pronouns with a preference for they/them and ze/zir and zir sooo everything to me <3 Imagine Leading Light with cloud's buster blade and soooo many more insecurities... Yea :) I can't even begin to dive into their backstory because I will be here FOREVER but long story short, canon system allegory with being 3 souls meshed into one body by the US government to be a super soldier (A human, an alien, and an inter dimensional being) and the alien part is destined to destroy the universe but that's beside the point! Teehee!

For Salem I suggest asking Ollie because I don't wanna misinterpret anything about him <3

Ohh please give me gender headcanons of the LPS pets I beg

Before when I was weak minded, I assumed everyone was just cis, like a coward (I got too self conscious that I, a trans woman, had too many trans headcanons. How foolish). And then, I became wise (otherwise known as, I'm a system and my headcanons are affected by introjects and their divergence from canon and because I'm basically a puppet for my own headmates, I default to their identities than come up with my own)

First, the guys, starting with

Sunil: There is no way in hell that Sunil *isn't* transfem to some degree. I have a whole compilation of images of him wearing some sort of feminine attire, and eventually when I go back to rewatch the show, I'm gonna look for and gather more. But as it stands; this mongoose is transfem and there is nothing we can do about it As for pronouns, probably uses he/him and she/her.

Vinnie: Not the type to care about genders or labels, assumes he's cis but probably has a bit of nonbinary in there. Probably would label his gender as "I'm Vinnie". He is extremely GNC though, but in a "man swagged out in frills" rather than Sunil's "I am an egg and I have to be thrown against a wall" He/him pronouns for Vinnie 👍

Russell: Gender fuckery central. As out of character as this sounds for Russ, I love to imagine he'd be whatever gender is funniest in the moment. The only time he'd have fun with something honestly. "Gender is a competition and I'm winning!". I don't think he'd default to any label other than genderweird, but like, genderfluid, agender, or nonbinary all fit the bill. Maybe even bigender or pangender. (Label hoarder) His default is he/him, but does use any prounouns.

Shahrukh: Checked out of the gender a long time ago. Most definitely nonbinary though. And just as GNC as the other boys, but more-so. I think Shahrukh would also be the "I'm whatever gender is funniest" type of guy too. He'd also one-up the other guys somehow. Not in any sort of competitive way, but just to fuck with them. Or just for a bit. And you know what they all love him for it!! Any pronouns work for Shahrukh.

Zoe: Maybe it's projection but every fashion diva girl in media who always has a wardrobe change is so transfem to me. Zoe wouldn't be fully binary but still extremely trans in the fem variety. She/her pronouns

Pepper: In a past life I was a simple butch cis girl Pepper idealist, but then my third eye was open and I ascended to being the "World's Most Annoying Transfem Headcanon Fan" Freakzterz (hii) made a post about how the song "A Skunk is a Skunk" is about how Pepper and Mitzi are trans women and how Mitzi is obligated to be overtly feminine because she's afraid she won't be seen as a "real woman" meanwhile Pepper is more masculine/butch in her presentation and still passes despite that. I tried to fight myself in saying "I can't headcanon every character I like as transfem" but the demons won and butch trans woman Pepper is just, like the best gender headcanon. She/her and they/them for Pepper, only the best for this skrunkly skunk

Penny Ling: There are two sides of this. Cis girl Penny Ling who is comfortable being feminine, or, a Penny Ling who is obsessed with xenogenders and identifies with every cute one she can find. Cutegender and pandagender are at the top for her. "Well... I'm cute, and I'm a panda! That's my gender!" She/her pronouns as default, but maybe some neos like cute/cutes and/or pan/pandas.

Minka: Much like Penny Ling, I think she'd mess around with xenogenders. She first decided on demigirl, but xenogenders relating to painting and space caught her interest. I'm not super knowledgeable on all xenogenders though, so naming some may be difficult for me. She/her, paint/paints, and star/stars pronouns and neopronouns for her.

Buttercream: Another xenogender girl. Firstly, transfem demigirl, but also, loves genders relating to any sort of sweets. And she collects as many labels as possible too. She/her and they/them pronouns. Maybe some sweets based neos :]

Sugar Sprinkles: Agender trans woman. Loved the idea of being a woman but so chill that gender still eludes her. Maybe thought about xenogenders but decided "Nah, I'm good." Just she/her for Sugar Sprinkles

New story talk time :D featuring art wrow. mostly tlking bout the charactwrs for now but badically They're all a bunch of high schoolers who are friends and get lost in the woods one night. Basically rhe woods actually houses this massive parasitic monster that's trying to eat them, it can send out different fragments- there are these wolf things that are it's anger, all the birds in the forest are its ears, etc. It's fun cus in the end they realize that even the things they thought were safe are monstrous- its like if in dnd u were relieved to defeat a mimic grate in a sewer system only to find out the whole sewer system is one big mimic yknow. but ya still, this post is just silly character things

I do! One of them is where you meet Floofty for the first time. You, the Journalist who has zero clue what even is Snaktooth Island, meets an even more confusing and rather rude grumpus. But honestly they're kind of charming trying to convince you to give them a Strabby. And then Floofty just runs away in their silly manner, paws behind their back. I've tried catching up to them multiple times, hilarious how they just go through the player and slam the door in front of you

Another ones are any scenes with Snorpy and Chandlo really, mostly Snorpy tho. I heavily relate to his personality, so watching him stomping his feet in excitement or from being nervous, telling the player his plans is extremely entertaining. Oh and Chandlo is straight up goals. As Roka once said: "He's the peak of masculinity and we both gotta get to his level"

There are barely any characters that I dislike. Every character is unique in their own way and that's enough for me to love them. Not to say that my fav characters can change after time(fun fact I used to absolutely despise Floofty... can you believe that?). I do think we could've gotten more lore on Lizbert and Eggabell, it's hard for me to relate to them. Except for Eggabell maybe

OMG OMG OMG THIS ONE'S GONNA BE SO FUN!! I'll start with my favorites

Floofty: Autistic lesbian (their special interest are robots, but they don't talk about it very often). They listen to heavy music on occasion, which they enjoy. Horror movies fan, tho complains about some parts not being realistic (Reanimator is on their favorites list for sure)

Snorpy: Lemon Demon enjoyer, autistic, oversized sweaters and color green are everything to him (you can guess why😏), gets pretty muscular after Snaktooth, but you can't really see it, so he surprises people with his strength

Filbo: Adhd, agender and doesn't mind he/him prns and masculine terms as long as you're being respectful ;), also gay gay gay in love with the Journalist gay gay gay

The Journalist: Agender (they/them or no pronouns, name instead of pronouns), queer and constantly stressed. Stays good friends with most of grumps from the expedition

I both hate and love how little attention this game has gained. It has a lot of potential, the fandom is pretty small and extremely comfortable. I've met so many nice people because of Bugsnax :) I think it's for the best, if it stays this way

Adonis King was born Adonis White in Oakland, California in 1988, to a father who had recently been arrested for armed robbery and a mother who was desperately trying to feed four children on a hotel maid's salary. From the first wail that Adonis let out when he came into this world, his mother knew he would be troubled. She had no idea the extent of it.

Growing up, Adonis' mother was working more than she was home. The welfare checks paired with her work checks were barely enough to put food on the table, let alone keep the electricity and water on or pay the rent that was due every month. She had no choice but to turn to illegal prostitution to make ends meet, and even that opened the door for more danger to come into their house. From the moment Adonis was able to walk, he started fighting. It was like he was born with this anger in his veins, an insatiable rage that, no matter how many times he punched something or someone, he could never seem to get a grip on it. Needless to say, his constant anger and violent tendencies landed him in lots of hot water when he started school. And, just as his mother had feared, he was labeled a "problem child". When his mother was caught and arrested for illegal prostitution one night, Adonis and his siblings were quickly rounded up by child services, and split up into different homes. Adonis was only seven years old, and he was alone.

The anger didn't get any better in the homes, if anything it got worse. Adonis was angry at his situation, angry that he had been ripped away from the only people he knew, the only people he trusted, and that was his family. He bounced from one home to the next, always causing trouble that the foster parents simply couldn't handle, not that most of them were trying to be positive influences in Adonis' life...or any of their foster children's' lives for that matter. He felt like no one cared about him.

One night, when he was nine years old, Adonis got into a fight on the bus. A pretty bad one, at that, and he never saw another foster home again -- instead he was staring at the cement walls of a juvenile detention center. There was a plus side to this new arrangement though, even though it was practically imprisonment. At least here, in the detention center, he knew what he was going to get, he knew he wasn't going to be tossed from one place to the next at break-neck speeds. Of course, though, he still fought, he stayed in trouble, even though he was in jail -- he wasn't learning anything about changing his behavior. That is until one man walked into his life and changed the course of it for the better: Walter King.

Walter had been told by a friend who worked as a child psychologist in the detention center that he was the only person who would be able to save Adonis. Not only that, but the psychologist felt that Adonis could become the son Walter never got to have. Walter was an older man, pushing sixty when he took him under his wing, and soon adopted him -- making Adonis White, Adonis King -- and moved him back to New York City with him.

Walter owned a flourishing boxing gym in Brooklyn. Walter had been quite the boxer himself in his day. He was someone who had been born into poverty much like Adonis, and someone who suffered from that same insatiable anger, but had made a name for himself in the neighborhood and built his little gym from the ground up. Walter had a lot of things that he taught Adonis: the craft of boxing and the art of controlling and channeling his anger into a fight. The transition wasn't easy. Adonis was a broken kid, he had been labeled a problem, and he knew that. Walter was aware of this too, though. Walter took his time. He taught Adonis discipline, he trained him, and taught him that the label he had been given was an unfair one and untrue. He wasn't a problem. Adonis was a man, a black man at that, who had been easily tossed into the narrative that many black men were thrown in to, but Walter was there to make sure that Adonis pulled himself out of it.

And Adonis did, slowly, but surely, he became the man that Walter knew he could be. Adonis learned to control and channel his anger into boxing, and a sport he quickly fell in love with. He was constantly training, pushing himself to the limits, learning, growing, and becoming the best fighter and best man he could be. Something else Walter taught him was that it's okay to be yourself, but you can only be yourself in secret -- among those who are close to you, trusted places, secret places. Walter was gay, but he was damn good at keeping that a secret. Adonis started making a name for himself in the neighborhood too, but then Walter got sick.

It was lung cancer from years of smoking cigarettes. Stage four when they caught it. It took everything in Adonis to convince Walter to fight it. They had to take a second mortgage out on the gym, the house, and plenty of other possessions to pay for the treatment. Soon, just winning fights wasn’t making enough money for Adonis. That’s when he turned to something he never thought he would -- stripping. It brought in a lot of money, he was good at it, he had the body and the moves and the swag, but it still wasn’t enough. So, at Club Iridescence, stripping bled into escorting.

It’s been three years since Walter King succumbed to his disease.

Adonis feels alone. He keeps people out of his life, he likes being alone. He’s still working as an escort to still pay the medical bills that he’s drowning in.

An Annotated Playlist to Accompany Your Reading of Pleasure Activism

In Section Three: A Circle of Sex, there is an essay, a compilation of interviews, titled “The Highs, Lows, and Blows of Casual Sex.” Upon reading this title, I immediately thought of one of my favorite songs at the moment, “High Highs to Low Lows” by Lolo Zouaï. I put this song on while I read this essay, and while not directly about sex, the concept of peaks and valleys really resonated with the text. “High Highs and Low Lows” set the mood for me to engage with “The Highs, Lows, and Blows of Casual Sex,” not just because of the lyrics but also the multidimensional sound and authenticity and vulnerability of Zouaï’s voice. Singing in both English and French, she covers so many deeply human feelings, from sexy to vulnerable, cocky to depressed, sensual to silly. Intentionally pairing this song with this reading (instead of just putting a random playlist on shuffle) gave me the idea of creating a playlist- this book needs a soundtrack, which I have attempted to create below. 

A compilation of R&B, hip hop, pop, Latinx music and some 1970s Black feminist icons (namely, Nina Simone and Diana Ross), most of these songs are performed by people that identify as women of color, partly because that is in line with Pleasure Acitivism which “center[s] the experiences of Black women” and partly because that is what I often find myself listening to. However, as was true for adrienne maree brown and her book, this soundtrack “includes a few voices that are not Black or women-identified but that I trust in the human experience of finding pleasure beyond oppression” (brown 5). This playlist was inspired by and accompanied much of my reading of much of Pleasure Activism, shifting and growing as I read, enhancing the experience and adding meaning to both the text and the music. The songs in the soundtrack can be listened to while reading any section of the book, but there are some that deal directly with themes of the book, and for those I have identified a “pairing,” or specific essay or section that I recommend pairing with that song. The songs on the soundtrack are in the order of the recommended paired sections. It should be noted that given the time frame of this project and the fact that I am simultaneously finishing up my undergraduate senior thesis, I was only able to annotate a select few of the songs on the playlist, but in no way are the songs that are not described any less important, relevant, or magical. 

Oh My God by Sevdaliza 

Pairing: “The Legacy of ‘Uses of the Erotic,’ A Conversation with Cara Page” OR the Introduction to Section One, “Who Taught You to Feel Good?”

I originally added this song to the playlist because of its sound, described in one article as “a blend of trip-hop, avant pop, and electronica,” and its lyrics about self-discovery, realization, hope and dreams (Ingvaldsen 2020). Savdalize asks “Who should I be?” and notes that “I view myself from above/Roamin’ in the fields of hope/Will it make or break me/As my dreams are heavy, they outweigh me.” These comments about her exploration of self and the intensity of her dreams initially led to its inclusion on the playlist. However, after finding an interview with Sevdaliza, I realized just how crucial this song is for Pleasure Activism’s soundtrack. She is Iranian Dutch and a refugee who, according to the interview, “acnkowledg[es] the oppressive regimes and institutions of the world in an effort to reflect peace and solidarity through her aural artform” (Ingvaldsen 2020). In the interview, Sevdaliza says she “believe[s] in collective energy,” a concept not only explored in Pleasure Activism but also in our course throughout the semester. Additionally, she says that “heritage stands for a gift of profound insight, wisdom, and love. My heritage to me is like an inner-oracle. The one who knows. It is a mesmerizing voice, that becomes more clear as I am close to my authentic self. My heritage also connects me with deep feminine instincts; the wise woman within” (Ingvaldsen 2020). This connection to her heritage and ancestors reminded me of brown’s exploration of her own “personal pleasure lineage” and encouragement that her readers do the same (brown 21). Sevdaliza says, “our voices are meant to be heard, our stories meant to be shared,” a concept embodid by brown in Pleasure Activism.

Multi-Love is a song about polyamory, full of intimacy, vulnerability, and even discomfort and torment. Despite these intense feelings that are on display in Ruban Nielson’s (the lead singer’s) voice and in the lyrics, the instrumental aspect of the song is lighter and catchy, consisting of an upbeat keyboard tune and light, quick drum beats. These components come together to create a non-pretentious, spiritual, futuristic song that touches on many of the same topics as Pleasure Activism. For example, he talks about god, asking, “who is your god? Where is she?” Similarly, adrienne maree brown said that she “think[s] a lot about what god is, how god is, and where we are relating to and running from and surrendering to god” (brown 7). He sings about transitioning between single-love and multi-love (“We were one, then become three”), which reminded me of brown’s comments that “nonmonogamy tends to suit [her] best, even if [she is] occasionally focused on one lover” and her further analysis of multi-love in the subsection “On Nonmonogamy” (brown 8, 409). And finally, he talks about alludes to the non-binaryness of gender: “she doesn't want to be a man or a woman” (though the use of the pronoun “she” is somewhat troubling in this case). All in all, this song that is somehow at once crystal clear and mysteriously muffled belongs on the soundtrack because of its soulful, groovy nature, relevant lyricism and personal discovery about love, spirituality, vulnerability, and meaning. As a side note, I also felt like it fits well because Ruban Nielson’s delivery has been compared to that of Prince’s, who brown dedicates the book to.

my relationship with God is pretty cool! i refer to God with they/them pronouns!

i have a quite a few experiences with God lol (i mean,, throw back to the time they sat on me as a way of protection loll). 

i have never heard of Sophia? who is she? is she cool? swag

my beliefs are kinda different than most when it comes to christianity tbh! i see God as the creator of everything, while the other deities of diff religions each have their own jurisdiction. an analogy would be where God is the president, and each deity is a governor of a state. they each have their own thing and their own laws, but they all seem to have some overlap at times.

i think its kinda dumb to believe that every other religion is just utter hogwash? esp when they have just as much religious info? esp when i’ve met other deities with other ppl who can confirm? heck no!!!! loll

but i’m curious as to who Sophia is! enlighten me
