Kevin Day has recently become my new obsession. Like this man has been physically and mentally abused most of his life and still got the strength to get away. It takes so much sometimes to leave an abuser and he not only got away but managed to build a family and a life away from Riko and The Nest. One of my favorite parts of the entire book series is when he gets a queen tattooed over that 2. I was so proud of how far he came and that he was managing to stand up for himself against Riko for the first time. Everything that Kevin did at the end of the series was so impressive. He took the number he was assigned to remind him of “his place” and made it into a something he was proud of and could show his real worth as an individual person. He stood in front of a crowd of reporters and called the Ravens on their bs about his injury showing that he wasn’t going to let them get away with hurting him anymore. Then when he switched his hand over he wanted Riko to know that he failed at breaking him. Riko may have broken his hand, but it just made him better at the game in the long run. He trained twice as hard to make up for that, and then went and used the hand that should have been unusable and used it to beat Riko. It’s so amazing to see how much he grows from the man who cowered on live television to someone who knew who he was and was proud of his own accomplishments and knew his worth and was able to stand on his own two legs against Riko and win. He grows so much though out the series and it’s so nice to see him get to be happy and free.
