because i can't seem to keep to six or seven sentences today

So maybe Alex takes the maddeningly long line of suitors as nothing more than an obstacle he shouldn't have to endure, but it's not his fault that he knows that where he belongs is in the room. He's rocking on his heels when he catches sight of blonde hair and that's all it takes for him to eschew decorum and ignore indignant shouts all to barrel ahead.

Barely sparing him more emotion than to fill a cold stare, Henry flatly states. “You’re not welcome here.”

Ignoring the way Alex very much wants to see if hitting his jaw will make the man who yelled at him in the garden reappear, he controls himself with nothing more than a smile. It's a miraculous feat, really. Someone should dedicate poetry to his restraint. “Do you really think you’re the first white man to tell me I’m not welcome somewhere?”

“Hopefully not the first to tell you that it’s due to your accursed personality and not your looks,” Henry strikes back with such precision that Alex is almost impressed. “But I meant that you are not welcome at the front of the line when there are others waiting prior.”

“I'll wait if you tell me more about my looks.” Maybe he’s smirking a bit to drive home the point-- which there isn’t really a point other than he had noticed how irritated Henry had gotten the last time he’d gone down this route of antagonism last night. You think my smile is pleasing?

Angered enough Henry’s cheeks actually turn a bit pink at the comment, Alex feels momentarily victorious, even if it precludes another insult. Narrowing the ridiculous blue eyes of his, he drops his voice low enough to reply as derisively as possible and not show the entire hall what an ass he is. “I think I said enough about them the other night.”

“Henry, is that who I think it is?” Beatrice Fox’s voice carries behind him. The brother closes his eyes tight in what seems to be a curse at whichever God he believes in before even attempting a reply, exhaling rather dramatically before he calls back, “Cutting the line, yes.” As if for good measure, he opens his eyes to glare at Alex and spitefully add, “Rudely.” as if that wasn’t apparent enough by his tone.

Alex is too busy grinning to mind.

“Let him in, H.”

Henry doesn’t move. “Bea--,”

“Oh, don’t become Pip now that we’re in the States, please,” she says, and suddenly Henry is capable of showing genuine emotion, because the lack of pretense in his outraged gasp is almost as hilarious as the fact he immediately steps aside.

Beatrice looks as though she’s trying to hide a smirk for her brother’s pride once Alex steps into the same room, but he’s grown up with June too closely not to know the cat-ate-the-canary grin of an older sister having gotten her way. “Hello Mr. Claremont-Diaz.”

He catches the unamused look Henry gives and tries not to be too apparent with his vindication, but he's performed better at too many other endeavors to say he's successful. “Good morning, Ms. Fox.”

The playfulness behind her smile doesn’t leave, but he's aware that she's watching her brother much more than him. He might be offended if it wasn't so amusing to watch someone else put him in his place.

@inexplicablymine tagged me to do a 2023 fic round-up but i frankly cannot list every single fic i wrote, posted or started this year because that would be a bit unruly 😅 but i am a sucker for data analysis so here are some numbers

i honest to god have just finished rereading what's like it's hard and that series truly lives in my mind rent free! i know you're planning a 3rd installment and i cant wait but do you have anything you can share with us that didnt make it to either stories and wont be a spoiler for the 3rd one??? im just gobbling up any lawyer au content bc it's so wonderful!!!!

thank you so much, nonnie! 💖💖 I love my firstprince lawyer au series so much and hearing that other people love it makes my face do this 🥹🥹 every single time. (Also, someone out there must have put it in a rec list somewhere because there’s been a little resurgence in comments and kudos on those fics - so thank you kind stranger!!)

There isn’t a lot that I had planned for those fics that didn’t make it onto the page tbh, I generally write a pretty clean first draft so I’m not someone who tends to remove entire scenes because they just don’t get written!

I did share their first I love yous a few months ago because I couldn’t fit that into the fic.

And I can tell you that when I wrote to the victor, it was never my intention to write a prequel! But I posted the last chapter of to the victor and almost immediately several friends (and more than a few commenters) asked me very nicely to consider writing a prequel and once I started thinking about it, I couldn’t stop so I worked out a timeline, started outlining and 65k later here we are!

@dustratcentral is a bit of a genius when it comes to playlists, so when I sent out a very brief outline of what like it’s hard, less than an hour later she came back to me with this playlist for the fic, which I listened to a lot in the months that I was writing!

I love wasting time with these things when I'm supposed to be writing 😉

How many works do you have on AO3? In total 262, for tarlos 24 (and counting)

What's your total AO3 word count? 642,739 (holy shit)

What fandoms do your write for? at the moment just 911 lone star/tarlos, but I'm kind of looking into RWRB/firstprince, and depending on a certain mister R. Hawley, I might get pulled back into emmerdale/robron

What are your top five fics by kudos? I'll stick to tarlos for this or else it'll just be 5 robron fics Austin TX first responders week - TK and Carlos have to give a talk about their jobs at a school for Austin's first responders week. Filling in the blanks - a post episode/missing moment of Owen finding out what happened to Carlos in 4x04 See you later - Marjan going to say goodbye to a still recovering Carlos before she leaves in 4x05 - kind of a missing moment It started with a concussion - a meet ugly with Carlos literally running into TK while chasing a suspect Love and Lou - The Lou fic! Vet!Carlos AU meet cute with a little help from Lou I and II

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Not as often as I should. I never know what to say other than "Thank you" and i just end up reading the comments 50 times over (and i save the emails from AO3) and I'm like I LOVE YOU PERSON LEAVING A COMMENT ON MY SILLY LITTLE STORY YOU MADE MY DAY - but only in my head because i don't want to seem too weird. Idk - I overthink things.

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I don't do angsty endings. Though PS I love you is a little bittersweet I guess. TK getting a letter from Gwyn on his wedding day.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? All of them! I need a happy ending - always. But I suppose it was 'earned' the most in California where they both Go Through It before they get their happy ending.

Do you get hate on fics? I haven't on tarlos fics but I did get a hater on one of my anti chas robron fics once. I just deleted the comment.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Not really. I've tried... but it's just not for me.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Not really. Unless you count the tiny blink and you miss it RWRB reference in Swing swing.

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not as far as I know.

Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope but I've translated fics from German to English for a friend yeeeeeaaaars ago - for Luke/Noah from As The World Turns

Have you ever co-written a fic before? I have, several. For Luke/Noah from ATWT way back in the day. it was an Experience™

What's your all time favourite ship? I can't pick just one!

What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Undercover Carlos - I really want to finish it but I'm so bad at multi chapter fics. I'm bad at planning and I lose motivation and everyone else loses interest. I'm going to try get back to it when I'm done with my flufftober fics (so somewhere next summer or so 🙃)

What are your writing strengths? Dialogue for sure. and cutesy oneshots.

What are your writing weaknesses? Describing stuff. Translating the "picture" I have in my head to words on 'paper' is The Worst. Also planning and plotting a story - I tend to make stuff up as I go (which is why I suck at long multichapter fics)

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Don't do it unless you speak the language or know someone who does who can check it for you. Google translate is NOT your friend. A few words here and there (like the Spanish terms of endearment in tarlos fics) is fine, you can't really go wrong with that, but for more than that you need someone who actually speaks the language.

First fandom you wrote for? Luke and Noah - As The World Turns

Favourite fic you've written? For Tarlos I had a lot of fun with my Lou fic that I mentioned earlier and The perfect costume has done some interesting things to my insta algorithm, and The power of a muddy dog was fun because I like soft!TK with Buttercup. But all of my fics have *something* that makes them *special* to me.

20 Questions for Fic Writers

Howdy, so I was tagged by @kiwiana-writes , @littlemisskittentoes and @affectionatelyrs , who I’d like to thank for being very supportive and friendly. Thanks besties!

1. How many works do you have in Ao3?

So this is changing by the day sometimes lol, right now I’m sitting at 16 fics, 2 are currently unfinished, 5 are chapter fics.

2. What’s your total Ao3 word count?

Again, changing by the day it feels, but 132,329 words so far. That’s about the length of A Tale Of Two Cities.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Right now it’s FirstPrince (Red, White, and Royal Blue), but I have a Good Omens fic and several Homestuck fics.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

1. i hit my peak at seven feet

2. and that’s the way i loved you

3. something good and right and real

4. trouble’s gonna follow where i go

5. wanna know that body like it’s mine

Combined, these fic have 4,089 kudos.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to reply to every comment, but sometimes it’s a little overwhelming. I absolutely try to respond to all comments that have more than one sentence, but if I miss you I’m sorry and I promise I’m going to get to you at some point!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Sir we write smut here, this is not a tragic writing space lol. If I had to pick I think then I think you don’t want to know me is going to have one of the sadder endings but even still it’s gonna be happy because I’m not a sad writer lol.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

All of them? I mean, the sappiest ending is somewhere between i hit my peak at seven feet and something good and right and real.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No, I mean the closest is someone who said my work was like disturbing or somethingbut I think that was actually a compliment???

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

This is like asking the Pope if he’s Catholic lmao. Yes I do, it’s primarily D/s dynamics, and almost always an AU one shot.

10. Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s your craziest one?

I do not. I sometimes put subtle references to other fandoms in my fics, but no crossovers.

11. Have you ever had your fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge, my partner has tho. If someone found out my fic was stolen I’d like to know, but honestly if you see something I’m writing and get inspired by it just write your own version and tag me so I can read it Y’know.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I don’t think so, but I have had someone offer to translate a fic into Chinese. I’m down if anyone wants to, but I only speak English and a moderate level of Spanish so I couldn’t check someone’s work.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

So my partner and I can get very collaborative, and I absolutely run my shit past people before it goes live, but for the most part I’m doing it all by myself.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Listen I love FirstPrince with all my heart but DaveKat is my first OTP and I’m never letting those fuckers go.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably never will?

Hmm, so I want to finish that Good Omens fic I mentioned but honestly that started in a weird time and I’m not sure if it’s got legs. Aside from that I’m trying to finish everything I start! (Or at least everything I publish!)

16. What are your writing strengths?

So from comments, I’d say my prose and my dynamics. I’d agree, I think my style is based in my education in poetry, so I can for sure get colorful. And I really enjoy the politics of a relationship, so I’ll sit there and wax poetics about the nature of soulmates daily and nightly lol. I also just write a lot very fast, so that’s a strength I guess.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Descriptions. I’ll explain emotions to death but explaining how people look is more challenging. I also have issues with finishing things, which I’ve been trying really hard to work on.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

So I’m from Texas, so if it’s Spanish dialogue I’m comfortable. For the main part, I’m not going to write dialogue out word for word if the POV character doesn’t understand what’s being said, which takes out a lot of that issue for me. I think putting a foreign language in a fic is something that can be done very poorly, so I want to avoid that.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Publically? Homestuck. That’s my answer.

20. Favorite fic that you’ve written?

Oh god, having to pick between my own kids basically. i hit my peak at seven feet is so important to me, it’s a very personal story and it really catapulted me back into writing fic. I also love there’s nowhere in the world like, which is the first fic I published in this account and is a really fun work about one of my hyper interests, so if you like 80s theme parks and Homestuck, give it a spin.

1. How many works do you have on ao3? 90 (lol what the fuck)

2. What’s your total ao3 word count? 840,737 hahahhahahhahahahahah what THEE fuck

3. What fandoms do you write for? Gossip Girl fairly exclusively, but I have been coaxed to write some Nancy Drew & some The Shadowhunter Chronicles drabbles, and I am currently in a will-she-won't-she with firstprince and RWRB

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? - somewhere you feel free - (the more you say) the less I know - gladly beyond any experience - mercurial high (a goddamn blaze in the dark) - as long as there are stars above you

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I try to! if somebody takes the time to tell me they liked the thing i made, I want to say thank you! I often fall months behind, but theoretically, every comment gets a response.

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? oh it's probably my Last Five Years derena au, twin flame bruise. i'm usually a fluffy ending kind of writer, but ofc my source material demanded something different, and it was weirdly satisfying in a way!

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I think most of my fluffy happy endings end on the same level....but if I had to pick just ONE, then I'll go with my The Holiday AU, a snowfall kind of love, just for that NYE cozy closing scene. just thinking about it is making me smile

8. Do you get hate on fics? it's only happened a few times, most people are total sweethearts, and since i've locked my fics the hate has disappeared, people aren't nasty when they have to sign their username to it. I remember one commenter on my p&p au who complained about how I was structuring the story but like....it's jane austen's pacing, I was just plugging in my blorbos, like. girl.

another one that made me and the discord laugh a lot was some hate I got on a dan/nate fic that was offended that I wrote dan as a bottom, which....have you seen that boy?

and there was hate because i dared make any characters queer at all. none of the van der humphreys are straight, sorry not sorry. they all bewildered me at the time, but in hindsight they're all just hilarious.

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind? the smutty kind? the horny kind? I tend to gravitate towards romantic smut, like, they're so in love they've gotta fuck nasty about it, but that's not always the case. I guess the classification I could give to all the smut in my collection is that I always try to work in Character Study into my porn. like, yes, they would be into that, and here's my persuasive essay as to why. like dan humphrey is a Bottom.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve ever written? no, not into crossovers, just not my cup of tea. I like doing aus with preexisting stories (see: p&p, l5y, the holiday, little women), but I don't like mixing characters from different worlds. just doesn't appeal.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? oh yikes i hope not. i don't think anyone cares enough for my smutty writings on a show that's been off the air for a decade to steal it.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? it is an honor I dream not of!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? i have not. I have many many wonderful writer friends that i've met through this hobby, but my life is so hectic that I feel like I can't really guarantee my time and attention to write with someone else, and I don't want to let my brilliant beautiful writing friends down by making promises that I cannot fulfill. maybe when i marry rich and retire.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship? going off the data, I'd say it's Dair.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? ummmmmm at this juncture....any of my unfinished ones.......just know that if desire and will was enough....they would all be finished.

16. What are your writing strengths? my strength is really filling out a universe. i like digging in and making those decisions of why things are the way that they are, why would this character choose this path, or that path. if i'm making an au from scratch, it's building the world, or if i'm doing an au of a preexisting recipe, it's connecting the dots and making the gg world fit into the auverse

What are your writing weaknesses? other than actually writing? loooooool no but i think right now i get stuck in the "it has to come out perfect" and that slows me down a lot. and that leads to editing as i go and that slows me down even more and......blah. also descriptions. descriptions get me. dialogue is fine, and the choreography of action that plays out in my head makes sense, but putting it into prose? it's embarrassing! maybe i just need to get back to slapping up words, leaving them alone, and coming back to revise later.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? um scared? my singer education gave me a little bit of working knowledge of romance languages, but my grammar is trash. and poetic singing language is different from how people speak. so i avoid it as a whole because i'm scared of getting it wrong and looking foolish, or worse, offending someone. a little French and Italian will sneak in from time to time, if it works for a character, and lucky for dair it does, but i cling to word reference dot com whenever I do.

19. First fandom you ever wrote for? in middle school when we had free writing in english class, i wrote twilight fanfiction that i am SO glad has been lost to time. rip to little me on the day i realized mrs maddox read everything in that notebook for a GRADE (it was all very chaste and sfw, i was just mortified on principle)

20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written? it changes with the tides!!!! and with recency bias! for the past week it's been the miloverse - I know a place where your heart can be safe - maybe because I wrote it in the fall, but it does feel so cozy and autumnal.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Reversebang?

The idea of this collaborative event is akin to a Big Bang, but in converse, the artwork is created first by the artists, which then inspires the authors in fandom for the works they write around it.

What constitutes art in this event?

The bottom line is that the art medium must inspire an author to create a story around it. This extends to traditional artwork, digital artwork, playlists with completed covers, fan edits with a coherent story arc, etc. If you are not sure if what you create will be accepted, or if you have an idea that was not listed before, please just message us through the inbox.

Who can sign up?

Absolutely anyone can sign up, whether you are a writer, creator, or author. Betas are also welcome to join the event and our server to help support the authors!

Can I sign up to create more than one art piece?

Yes, this is totally permitted as long as you think you can dedicate enough time to each partnered author to collaborate with one another.

Can I sign up as both an artist and author?

Again, yes, just as long as you trust in yourself to have both pieces completed by the deadline.

Where can I sign up?

Where is the schedule?

The schedule is located to the side bar of the desktop blog, and also through THIS link.

What are the required minimums for each medium?

You can find specifics over at the Rules page.

Will there be checkpoints riddled throughout the event?

Yes, the schedule makes it so that there are regular, biweekly check in points so we can ensure each artist and author are on track and will have their works completed on time.

Do authors need to have their works beta read?

Yes, it is required to work with a beta reader. You can work with someone you already know or we can match you up with a volunteer.

What is a beta?

Betas are the backbone of fan fiction! They help edit and bounce ideas off of a author, whether in the midst of or after their piece has been completed.

How do creators submit their works?

Submission dates are written out in the schedule. Every team of creators will be given a day where they must publish their collaboration, and they must send us, your Mods, the link of your published works for the roundup that day. More specifics will be granted the sooner we come to submission dates.

Is there a theme we should follow?

Nope. Draw to your heart’s content and writers go anywhere with it.

Is it limited to only Firstprince works?

Absolutely not! Any work is welcome, romantic or general. You can go with a super smutty Firstprince AU or maybe a post canon super six photoshoot? Just follow your heart’s desire.

So are NSFW works accepted?

Yes, absolutely they are. But please answer honestly in your signup forms if you’re above 18 so we know everyone involved with NSFW works are of age.

What is a pinch hitter?

Pinch hitters are the saints of the world of fandom! They are the brilliant folks who volunteer to write a fic last minute if another author has to drop for any reason at all.

How are the teams created?

This is described more thoroughly in the Rules page, but authors will have access to a preview of all the artists’ works and will select and rank the ones they are inspired by. Then, the Mods will match authors up with artists according to everyone’s preferences, attempting to give everyone as close to their first choice as possible.

Are authors allowed to share works in progress or completed fics with our artists before posting?

Yes, of course. Work with your artists as much as you want! This is meant to be a collaborative event, which means you talk with one another, and figure out the vision you both want to create for your project. You can also work with your betas in the same way, but we do ask you refrain from posting any parts of your fic in your blogs or other public spaces before posting dates.

Can authors write the first installment in a series?

All works submitted for the event must be completed by posting date. If you desire to continue the world with another one shot or what have you, of course it’s your story and your mind. But we ask that what you turn into the Mods is a completed story that can stand on its own.

How can creators drop out?

We ask that folks let us know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE right when they realize they cannot continue with the work, and then message us immediately, whether through Discord or email ([email protected]) or even right here on the blog through the inbox. If you don’t get a reply within a day’s time, please send it once more because that perhaps means we simply did not receive it.

Is Discord required for the event?

Required? No. It definitely will make it easier for you to catch announcements and find other folks in the fandom who are also participating in the fest. But if you do not join the Discord server—which will be sent to you in the confirmation email after signups—we highly HIGHLY suggest you turn on notifications for this blog.
