Those people who are now putting up their PayPal link whenever someone asks for proof for any weird ass claim they try to spread around have the same energy as those “influencer classes” that don’t actually teach you anything and are just made to take your money

DEN OF GEEK CRITICS’ PICKS
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
They’re the world’s most fearsome fightin’ team. They’re heroes in a half-shell and they’re green. I mean, what more do we need to say? 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is no Citizen Kane, but comic book movie fans flock to it like the four titular turtles to pizza. The film knows exactly what it is, providing cheesy one-liners, silly action, and unpretentious fun. Throwing in Will Arnett as a sidekick for April O’Neil was an inspired choice that paid dividends in laughs and whoever tapped Tony Shaloub to voice Splinter should get a pay raise. Produced by Nickelodeon Pictures, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles wasn’t only the highest grossing film in the series, but also the highest grossing Nickelodeon film of all-time. This reboot of the classic ninja team helped spawn further films, new TV series, and a renewed interest in one of the most beloved comic book properties ever. Cowabunga, dude!
Noah
This isn’t your Sunday School’s Noah. Darren Aronofsky’s adaptation of the story of the biblical figure Noah is an awe-inspiring epic that takes the bones of the famous story and infuses themes about environmentalism, self-doubt, and yes, faith. Pulling liberally from texts like the Book of Enoch, the film has far more action than just leading animals onto a boat and a storm. Shot by Matthew Libatique, the movie looks absolutely gorgeous and at times can be genuinely breath-taking, but it’s not just about the visuals. Russell Crowe stuns in the title role, but the entire ensemble is great, including a post-Potter Emma Watson and a ferocious Ray Winstone. No one expected Noah to be more akin to a thought-provoking art house film than a straight-forward epic, but that’s the sort of genius you get from Aronofsky, one of the most exciting and inventive filmmakers working today.
Shine a Light
Even if we hadn’t just lost the immortal, suave Charlie Watts, the heartbeat of rock and roll’s longest institution, The Rolling Stones, we’d still be recommending Martin Scorsese’s Shine a Light. Capturing the legendary band during their A Bigger Bang Tour in 2006, Scorsese spends a lot of the time rightfully focusing on Watts. With the camera fixated on Watts, you witness his unflappability; the way that he can make such raucous playing look so effortless. You also catch the man’s unique, jazz-influenced technique, like how he rarely hits the center of his snare, or how he changes his grip whenever he hits a cymbal. Even in their old age, the Stones are still one of the tightest, most electrifying live acts, and Shine a Light puts you right on stage with them as they barrel through one of the deepest catalogs in recorded music. It’s simply a masterful concert film.
The Virgin Suicides
Sofia Coppola likely has to deal with accusations about nepotism to this day, but anyone who saw her directorial debut The Virgin Suicides knows that Francis’ daughter would have made it as a filmmaker even without her famous last name. This haunting adaptation of Jeffrey Eugenides’ novel of the same name taps into the melancholy of childhood, the dreamlike haze of memory, and the mystery that lurks inside suburban homes. Coppola expertly captures the pull that an ethereal group of sisters have on the imaginative group of boys that pine for them in a way that is relatable for anyone that had an unrequited crush in high school. As a coming-of-age movie, it is one of a kind. As an exploration of trauma and grief, it is crushingly effective. The original score by the band Air only adds to its hypnagogic vibe.
Rock ‘n’ Roll High School
Punk rock music and Roger Corman pictures are some of the core tenants that Den of Geek was founded on, so of course we’re going to recommend 1979’s Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, which features possibly the coolest band of all-time, The Ramones. Let our resident punk rock movie expert Jim Knipfel break it down for you:
“After producing so many dozens of teen rebellion films over the years, Corman finally hit the pinnacle, the ultimate teen rebellion picture, with the cartoon antics ratcheted up more than a few notches. There are so many bad jokes flying around, so many visual gags and film references packed into every scene, so many overwrought teen film clichés pushed way past absurd, it’s a film that demands multiple viewings. Even if “Riff Randall, rock ’n’ roller” (P.J. Soles) doesn’t look much like any punk chick I ever knew, I’m perfectly willing to accept it. And in historical terms, it really was this film more than the 4 albums they had out at the time that spread the word about The Ramones to mainstream America, and that’s worth something. Old as I am I still get a thrill every time the students and the Ramones blow up Vince Lombardi High, and anyone who doesn’t must be wrong in the head somehow.”

33 Legit Online Jobs That Pay $50,000+ From Home
Working remotely doesn’t have to mean taking a pay cut. There are more legit online jobs than ever. All it takes is being aware of the possibilities.
Below are 33 legitimate online jobs where you can earn over $50,000 a year — and most of them allow you to make your own schedule.
Plus, included are a number of valuable tips and resources that will help you land and succeed in your ideal online job.
Best Online Jobs
These top online jobs have the ideal mix of high demand, a low supply of talented individuals, and the ability to start earning fast. All you need is an internet connection and the motivation to get started.
#1. Proofreading
Quick summary: Earn money by proofreading books, academic papers, website content, audio transcripts and more.
Average pay: $17.50 per hour.
Pros: With no certification requirements, you can start earning fast.
Cons: Limited upside unless you decide to transition to a related high-paying field (such as editing).
If you’re the type of person that spots every typo and grammar mistake in the articles you read, consider a career as a proofreader. This is a great example of a job that needs no certification, and you can use your set of eagle eyes to make solid money.
With the explosion of web content that has occurred in recent years, it’s a job that’s in super-high demand. That means you can land your first client today, if you’re ready to start.
#2. Bookkeeping
Quick summary: Record and continuously update financial transactions for small businesses.
Average pay: $17.50 to $40+ per hour.
Pros: You’ll typically work with clients on a retainer basis, allowing you to earn a steady base of income.
Cons: Will need basic training to earn your first client.
At the top of most business owners’ list of “Least Favorite Work Activities” is bookkeeping. Of course, it’s a critical task for ensuring that a business runs smoothly and survives into the future.
If you’re someone who loves to work with numbers, you can earn very good money in the field. There are also a lot of opportunities to charge higher hourly wages the more you specialize.
And, just like proofreading, bookkeeping doesn’t require a certification.
#3. Start A Blog And Become An Influencer
Quick summary: Create a website that provides valuable information about a topic you care about.
Average pay: $0 to $10k+ per month.
Pros: High income potential.
Cons: Even experienced bloggers take nearly a year to earn a full-time living.
I started my first blog in 2009 and sold it two years later.
I launched this blog in August of 2016. Just over a year later, it was generating enough revenue that I felt comfortable leaving a job I’d held for over 10 years.
The great thing about a blog is that you’re building a sellable asset. A quality website sells for around 30X its monthly revenue. Therefore, if you’re able to make $1,333 per month, you have a $40,000 asset.
As for how to make money blogging, there are a number of ways.
These include:
Advertising — earn money by placing ads on your website.
Affiliate marketing — make money promoting other businesses.
Products and services — sell your own products and services to others.
Sponsored content — you can get paid for partnering with brands
One big upside to blogging is that it can be a great source of passive income. On the other hand, one downside is that it can take time to get up and running. As such, if you need money today, you might want to consider a different online job instead.
#4. Online Tutoring
Quick summary: Tutor students worldwide in English or other subjects.
Average pay: $18 per hour.
Pros: The ability to start earning in as little as a few weeks.
Cons: Limited upside.
One high-growth business industry right now is online education. And one of the fastest-growing niches within online education is online tutoring jobs.
There are now multiple websites that connect you with students all over the world who are looking to be tutored in a range of subjects.
When we ranked the best online tutoring sites, one of the top options was Education First.
EF is a U.S.-based company that pays as much as $20 per hour to start and offers cash bonuses for reaching certain teaching milestones.
Here are just a few of the benefits of working for EF:
The lesson plans and course materials are provided.
You can start teaching classes as quickly as two weeks after applying.
You can work when you want, where you want, with no need to worry about marketing your services.
No teaching experience is required, as EF considers your entire professional background and resume.
Apply with Education First.
VIPKid is another great online tutoring opportunity, although they get a lot more applications. As such, it’s better suited for those with more teaching experience.
You’ll need a bachelor’s degree to work for either company, but it doesn’t have to be in education and you don’t need an active teaching certification.
Apply with VIPKid.
Best Legit Part-Time Online Jobs (With No Fees Or Startup Costs)
What makes a great part-time online job?
Flexibility, fulfilling work, and the chance to earn as much by working part-time as others do from working full-time.
Here are the top part-time online jobs that meet these criteria.
#5. Social Media Marketing
Quick summary: Handle all social media tasks for small business owners.
Average pay: $20 to $100+ per hour.
Pros: Most social media clients are on a retainer basis.
Cons: Limited upside unless you’re willing to learn paid advertising, which can take time.
Many business owners don’t have the time to make consistent updates to their social media platforms, or to respond promptly to customer requests made via social media.
That’s why so many businesses today are looking to hire social media managers. In fact, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, an 8% job growth rate is expected for social media marketing managers through 2028.
As long as you have the ability to post, curate and manage content on social media channels, you can start taking on clients today.
But the big money is in learning how to effectively deploy paid advertising, such as Facebook ads. Businesses need new customer leads, and you can earn premium wages if you know how to use things like micro-targeting to deliver ads to just the right audience.
This can be a great opportunity for college students, because the amount of time you need to spend on a project each week can be quite small (especially if you utilize automation), and the required schedule tends to be extremely flexible.
#6. Virtual Assistant
Quick summary: Work as a remote executive assistant doing a range of tasks.
Average pay: $18 to $35 per hour, according to Upwork.
Pros: The more efficient you become, the more clients you can add (and the more money you can make).
Cons: Most employers will want you to work certain hours of the day.
For years, most people thought of virtual assistants as low-paid overseas workers that could be trusted to handle basic administrative tasks.
But now the trend isn’t to hire a VA for $5 an hour. It’s to find the highest-quality VA possible. Someone who will really add value to your business.
And because of that, people are willing to pay significantly higher wages to the right person with the right skills and work experience.
So instead of just doing boring, repetitive tasks, you’ll be working for a successful business owner as a remote executive assistant.
Common tasks carried out by VAs include:
Answering email
Booking travel
Managing social media
Scheduling appointments
And more, depending on the field
Some VAs take on multiple clients, allowing them to earn over six figures a year from home. This means it can be one of the most lucrative remote jobs you’ll come across.
#7. Freelance Writing
Quick summary: Online writing jobs include things like drafting blog posts, articles, advertisements and more for clients.
Average pay: $15 to $40 per hour for beginners.
Pros: It’s a field that’s exploding in demand due to the growth of online publishing.
Cons: Standing out when you don’t have a lot of experience is difficult.
Freelance writing is one of the more lucrative side hustles I’ve tried. I started small, but in a year I was earning over $100 an hour.
Thanks to the growth of content marketing, it’s also a skill that’s more in-demand than ever.
#8. Photography
Quick summary: Supply stock photos that will be purchased and used by businesses.
Average pay: 20 to 50 cents per image sold.
Pros: A fun, fulfilling hobby that can double as a business.
Cons: Will take time to build up your inventory of photos available for sale.
One of the fasting-growing online markets is stock photography.
Businesses need quality stock photos for their websites, client presentations and more. If you love being behind a camera — even the one on your smartphone — you can get paid for uploading quality photos to stock photo sites.
You’ll earn anywhere between 20 and 50 cents per image sold. So, the goal is to have dozens of photos for sale, each generating daily commissions. This makes selling stock photography a great source of passive income, because you can get paid over and over again for work you only did once.
#9. Search Engine Optimization
Quick summary: Help small business owners get found online.
Average pay: $25 to $40 per hour for beginners.
Pros: Quality SEO specialists are in high demand.
Cons: Proving your value comes down to showing proof that past projects have worked — which makes it hard for beginners to land a job.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of helping businesses get found online — primarily on Google.
In fact, a recent study by Microsoft listed SEO as the most important hard skill for marketers to learn going forward in 2020.
In my experience, having managed local SEO campaigns in the past, there’s a lot of low-hanging fruit. That means you can drive a lot of revenue to a business just by implementing a basic set of SEO “best practices.” Therefore, you can charge a high hourly or project rate, knowing you’ll deliver results.
The best way to learn SEO is with hands-on experience. Personally, I learned SEO by starting a blog and seeing what worked and what didn’t.
With real proof of results on my resume, I was then able to obtain clients and earn a high rate for my work.
#10. Scoping
Quick summary: Edit transcripts for court reporters.
Average pay: $20 to $30 per hour.
Pros: Very flexible hours, as often you’ll be working off recordings.
Cons: Contracts can come and go based on your client’s hours.
Scoping is a little-known work-from-home job that’s been around for 30+ years.
A court reporter’s job is transcribing what’s said in the courtroom into written form, using a special system of shorthand so that they can keep up with the fast-moving proceedings. Court reporters then hire scopists to edit their transcripts.
Court reporters make money per page, not per hour. That’s why outsourcing the editing allows them to increase their earning potential.
Similar to proofreading and bookkeeping, no certification is required, there are very minimal start-up costs, and the earning potential is high.
#11. Graphic Design
Quick summary: Design engaging graphics.
Average pay: $25 to $40 per hour for beginners.
Pros: Pick your own clients and work in niches that interest you.
Cons: Will be a lot of project-based work, which can vary your income.
For the artists out there, graphic design is a great way to monetize your hobby. The web is becoming more and more visual — especially as mobile devices become the primary method of browsing.
The highest-paid graphic designers combine multiple skills into their designs. Knowledge in branding, sales and direct response marketing allows many graphic designers to charge over $100 per hour.
#12. Video Editing
Quick summary: Create engaging videos for social media, YouTube and websites.
Average pay: $25 to $35 per hour for beginners.
Pros: Growing in demand as the popularity of YouTube, Instagram and other video platforms increases.
Cons: Video editing requires a lot of focus, so it’s important you have the work environment and discipline to log longer hours.
Another online trend that’s picking up more steam year-by-year is video editing. Video editors with prior experience are in high demand today, with the potential to earn over $50 per hour the more you specialize.
#13. Marketing Automation Specialist
Quick summary: Design and implement automated digital marketing systems.
Average pay: $40+ per hour for beginners.
Pros: High income potential, with the ability to scale into an agency.
Cons: The best in the field have a range of skills, from copywriting to understanding the technical aspects of a particular software. These skills tend to have a longer learning curve.
I’m in a mastermind group that’s been meeting since 2009. We all do some type of marketing work as independent contractors for a range of businesses. We’ve each had our ups and downs. Yet, as I write this, things are going well for everyone.
Connecting the dots, we realized that once we committed to specializing in a growing digital marketing platform, we had to actually start turning clients away.
One of the fastest-growing segments is marketing automation, on platforms such as Ontraport and HubSpot. These platforms are experiencing explosive growth, and more are emerging all the time. Some other examples are Aweber, Convert Kit and MailChimp.
Taking a certification course to become a specialist can often land you in the $60 to $100 per hour range fast.
#14. Medical Transcriptionist
Quick summary: Edit medical transcriptions for local healthcare providers.
Average pay: Transcription jobs typically pay $10 to $25 per hour.
Pros: Steady source of income.
Cons: High startup costs to earn a credential.
There are dozens of data entry jobs online. Sites like Clickworker and Amazon’s Mechanical Turk provide typists with a lot of work opportunities, but they’re often micro jobs — quick tasks that pay almost nothing.
In order to make over $50,000 per year with data entry jobs, you’ll need to specialize. And beyond scoping, one of the best ways to specialize in data entry is by focusing on medical transcription.
The first thing to know about medical transcription is that it requires a certification, which you can get through a company like CareerStep. CareerStep offers a range of certifications in multiple work-at-home opportunities within the medical field.
With their medical transcription certification, which is approved by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity, you’ll prepare yourself to land an online job as a transcriptionist in an industry that’s hungry for qualified talent. CareerStep courses are not cheap (they start at $2,999), but they do offer both payment plans and discounts for military spouses.
If you’re not looking for a career and just want to make some extra income, there are a number of websites where you can get started with transcription jobs on a more casual basis.
The most popular sites are:
Rev — make 36 to 65 cents per minute of audio transcribed.
Go Transcript — earn up to 60 cents per minute of audio transcribed.
Scribie — pay starts at $5 to $25 per hour of audio transcribed.
DionData Solutions – hires only U.S.-based workers.
One thing worth noting about medical transcriptionists is that they’re seldom out of work for long, as more and more healthcare companies are looking to outsource tasks to keep overhead costs as low as possible.
#15. Voiceover Artist
Quick summary: Provide vocal recordings to be used in audiobooks, videos, films and more.
Average pay: $20 pay per hour.
Pros: Flexibility and freedom to work your own schedule.
Cons: As most work is contract-based, your income can vary drastically from month-to-month.
Voice acting is the art of reading a script and using your voice to bring that script to life. Quality voice actors are in especially high demand in the marketing field, as video marketing has exploded in popularity in recent years.
A good site to get started on is Upwork. There, you can gain experience working as a voiceover artist (and ideally find your niche).
#16. Technical Writing
Quick summary: Synthesize complex, high-level information for a specific audience to understand.
Average pay: $20 per hour for beginners.
Pros: One of the higher-paying freelance writing niches.
Cons: The work isn’t very creative compared to most traditional writing jobs.
For those who like to dive deep into learning new things — and aren’t afraid of tackling super-complicated topics — technical writing can be a great way to generate extra income.
As a technical writer, you’ll be responsible for writing user guides and other documentation.
Aside from being interesting work for those who love to research, it’s also widely recognized as one of the best-paying writing jobs available. Furthermore, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects growth at 8% per year through 2028.
#17. Customer Service Representative
Quick summary: Provide service to a businesses’ existing customers.
Average pay: $12 to $25 per hour.
Pros: Opportunities with Fortune 500 companies, which may provide benefits such as health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.
Cons: You may have to work irregular hours (especially when just starting out).
Most customer service jobs will not pay you $50,000. In fact, according to Payscale, the average hourly wage for work-at-home customer service jobs is $13.92.
However, if you’re smart about where to look and the skillsets to master, there is a path to becoming a high-earner in the field.
For starters, because there’s a large supply of customer service jobs, I’d avoid looking for jobs under the name “Customer Service Representative.” Research by TheJobNetwork showed that terms like “Customer Experience Associate,” “Customer Engagement Representative,” and “Customer Service Advisor” actually paid $18 or more per hour — well more than your average customer service job.
Two fields with a lot of overlap (and higher pay than customer service) are “Account Management” and “Customer Success Manager.” In these fields, you’ll be doing a lot of customer service work but other skills — such as cross-selling and retention —  are required. As such, if you’re looking to become a high earner long-term, finding an entry-level position in account management or customer success might be your best bet.
Online Jobs That Pay Well For Entrepreneurs
The goal of a freelancer is to get good clients, do great work, and increase their value over time.
The goal of an entrepreneur is to build a repeatable system that provides value with or without the owner.
As an entrepreneur, you’re no longer working on projects for a set rate (or by the hour). Instead, your income correlates with the amount of value you can provide.
There are no limits to what you can and can’t do. But to narrow down your choices and help you figure out where to start, here are 10 ideas.
#18. Authority Sites
Quick summary: Build an informational website that helps people make purchasing decisions.
Pros: While working to build your authority site, you’ll learn very valuable, in-demand skills that can be transferred to your existing career.
Cons: Similar to a blog, it often takes a year or more to see a significant source of income.
A popular, highly-profitable and low-cost online business idea is building authority sites.
Authority sites are content-driven websites on a specific topic. They most often exist to help people like you and me make purchasing decisions.
Authority sites are a lot like blogs. Actually, if you were to build an authority site, a lot of the work is the same. The big difference is that blogs are more personal in nature. With a blog, you’re looking to build long-term relationships with visitors. Authority sites are much more transactional.
To best understand the idea, think back to the last time you searched for a review of a product. When you visited a website that had the review, that was likely an authority site.
As an example, I’m in the market for a sauna. So, I’ve visited different authority sites in the sauna niche, reading buyer guides and reviews.
The most popular way authority sites make money is through affiliate partnerships. With our sauna example, if I were to buy a sauna recommended by a particular site, that site would earn a commission.
And therein lies one of the big benefits to an authority site: since the owner doesn’t need to be present to make money, and they often drive traffic through passive sources like Google, such sites can be a source of passive income.
#19. Dropshipping
Quick summary: Sell items via a website and have them shipped directly from the manufacturer or wholesaler to the customer.
Pros: Can test the business model with very little money.
Cons: The dropshipping field is loaded with spammy marketing, so stick with learning the ropes from reputable sites like Shopify.
Shopify has created hundreds of opportunities for online entrepreneurs. Why? They made the process of selling online easy. From products and digital downloads to consulting services, over 1 million people use Shopify to run an online store.
One of the most common ways people get started is through dropshipping. The benefit of starting a dropshipping store is that orders are sent right to the customer. That means the store owners (like yourself) don’t have to hold inventory or deal with shipping.
And since you only need to order a product after a customer has bought it from your store, it’s a very low-cost business to start.
#20. Retail Arbitrage
Quick summary: Buy low and sell high.
Pros: A way for hobbyist and collectors to use their knowledge of a particular niche to make money.
Cons: Takes time and skill to find the best deals.
Do you love going to flea markets and garage sales, and browsing thrift stores? If so, you can make money online by flipping items for profit.
Think of this online business idea as buying an asset and selling it for a higher price. Your inventory can be anything you find at a garage sale or on a clearance rack.
The goal — and the key to making retail arbitrage work — is having an information advantage. This means understanding the market for what you’re buying better than the person who is selling that item.
Remember, the concept of arbitrage is based on the principle that a particular good has a higher price in one place than it does in another. That might mean it sells for more in California than it does in New York. But it might also mean that it sells for more online than it does in a brick-and-mortar store.
Winning at arbitrage means knowing how to figure out which items to buy and which ones to walk away from.
#21. E-Commerce Store And/Or Amazon FBA
Quick summary: Create your own online store or use Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) to sell physical products online.
Pros: Very high potential in a fast-growing field.
Cons: Higher startup costs. Money often has to be reinvested in the business.
Amazon FBA is a business idea that’s getting a lot of attention lately.
The idea is to buy products directly from a manufacturer or wholesaler, then sell them online via Amazon. The most popular option is to use Amazon FBA, which handles all the warehousing and shipping (the “fulfillment”) for you. In fact, you can even have the manufacturer or distributor ship the products directly to Amazon, so that you never have to physically touch the items.
But you don’t have to limit your selling to Amazon. You can also use FBA to ship products you sell on eBay or your own website. It’s much easier than packing and shipping everything yourself, and the shipping rates Amazon charges you are much lower than you’d pay to UPS or FedEx.
#22. Etsy Store Owner
Quick summary: Create and sell homemade crafts and digital products on the world’s largest creative marketplace.
Pros: You’re taking advantage of a fast-growing platform.
Cons: As Etsy has grown it’s become more competitive, with large companies creating stores on the marketplace.
When it comes to legit work-from-home jobs for moms, Etsy is near the top of the list.
Think of Etsy like eBay for creative people, as some of the most popular products on the platform include arts, crafts and jewelry.
You can either do Etsy as a business (there are many full-time sellers) or use it as a way to make extra money in your spare time.
#23. Create A Course
Quick summary: Create an online education course.
Pros: Can test demand for ideas fast by utilizing online teaching websites.
Cons: The below sites, which have an audience looking for courses, often take a large cut of your profits. The best long-term business model is building your own audience, but that can take time.
If you have expertise others may find valuable, you can create a course online and sell it. This used to be very hard, as you had to build your audience from scratch.
But two websites, Udemy and Skillshare, now provide access to an audience of people who are eager to learn about almost everything under the sun.
There are all types of courses available, so it’s a great way to create a legit online job of your own.
#24. Home Health Agency
Quick summary: Manage a local team of home healthcare providers.
Pros: Demographic trends, specifically the aging of the baby boom generation, have increased demand.
Cons: High startup costs, including licensure.
A major trend in our economy is the need for qualified home healthcare. The aging population of the United States, as well as seniors’ increasing desire for care inside their home, is driving this trend.
A big benefactor of this trend has been local home health agencies.
A home healthcare agency provides qualified care to local residents. As employees are working at client’s houses, an office isn’t required.
This is by no means an easy business to start. To begin, you’ll need certain licenses and certifications. These vary by state, as well as by the type of care you offer.
Non-medical care agencies have the lowest startup costs and barriers to entry. This type of agency provides day-to-day living help, such as meal-prep and housekeeping. In contrast, medical care agencies work with Medicare/Medicaid and have more complex responsibilities.
#25. Virtual Recruiter
Quick summary: Find talented employees for businesses.
Pros: High income potential for those with large existing networks.
Cons: If working for yourself, income can vary widely as you’re only paid when someone lands a job.
If you love to network, this is a great low-cost business to start. What you’re doing here is finding talent for employers. Payouts can be quite large, as some placement firms charge upwards of 25% (or more) of the employee’s annual salary.
#26. Insurance Agent
Quick summary: Sell property, casualty or life insurance from a home office.
Pros: Some insurance income is recurring, making for a quality source of passive income.
Cons: Competitive field, often competing with companies with billion-dollar ad budgets.
Having been in this field myself for over 10 years, I’ve seen a lot of growth from individuals starting their own insurance agencies from home. Startup costs are low, the hours are flexible, and the commissions can be quite high.
If I were to start an insurance agency from home, I’d focus on selling small business insurance. The premiums tend to be higher than those of auto and home policies, and there’s much less competition.
#27. Travel Agent
Quick summary: Book and coordinate travel for individuals or businesses.
Pros: Fulfilling way to earn more for those who love to travel.
Cons: Income can vary, as travel tends to spike at certain times of year.
Believe it or not, travel agents are still in demand. It just depends on finding the right niche. This is an especially good business for you if you have personal or professional travel experience, because you can provide your clients with insights they can’t get from a website.

Online Job FAQ
How much do online work from home jobs pay per year?
When you work from home, you’ll usually (but not always) be classified as an independent contractor. That means you’re working on a per-hour or per-project basis, rather than for a set annual salary. As a result, your annual earnings can vary widely based on a number of factors. If you’re organized, motivated and efficient, you can often earn more money for the same amount of work as compared to a more traditional environment. But on the flip side, if you’re someone who finds it difficult to stay focused and has a tendency to coast through the day, you might end up making significantly less. That’s because as a freelancer or contractor, you’re only getting paid for the work you actually do. Being at home can be distracting, and it’s easy to end up with only four billable hours after an eight-hour workday. Your take-home pay will also depend on the types of contracts you’re able to win. You’ll make a lot more money as a paid social media manager than you will by doing online data entry jobs.
Where should I look for online jobs?
If you’re trying to get hired for a full-time position at a company, start your job search at FlexJobs — a great job board for finding remote work. As mentioned above, FlexJobs screens each listing before making it available to applicants. That’s a good thing, because the company’s research has shown that there are 53 scam job listings for every legit online job! Beyond FlexJobs, Indeed is another job board that’s worth checking out, as it has the most powerful search engine among job listing websites. If you’re looking for independent contractor or freelance work, sites like Upwork and Fiverr feature a bevy of legitimate online jobs.
How do I avoid work at home scams?
There are many scams when it comes to the advertising of work at home opportunities. That’s why, before applying for any job, you should research the company on Glassdoor, a site that allows former employees to leave reviews of the employer. You’ll find details such as average pay, growth opportunities, benefits, and more. A good rule of thumb is that if the company you’re looking to work for isn’t on Glassdoor, it’s not worth applying. If you’re searching for independent contractor jobs on Fiverr or Upwork, make sure to view the company profile before applying. On Upwork, you can even see how much the company has spent on freelancers, where it’s located, the average hourly rate they pay, and reviews from previous freelancers.
What are the qualifications to get an online work-from-home job?
As with any job, the necessary qualifications depend on the type of work you’re seeking. In general, if you need a certification to do the work in person, you’ll also need one to do it online. However, some jobs — such as freelancing writing and editing jobs — can be easier to get online if you have limited work experience. For example, while few newspapers will hire a journalist who has zero training, it’s fairly easy to gain a foothold as a content writer for a blog or website.
Legit Online Jobs With No Upfront Investment
The internet has made it much easier to make money from home. While many people are just looking for opportunities to make a few bucks here and there by taking online surveys or maximizing their cash-back shopping, you can also find legitimate work that pays just as much as — and often more than — offline options.
Whether your goal is to work full-time, part-time or run your own business, there’s no shortage of work-at-home jobs.
So get started today. Take at least one action: sign up for a free resource, update your resume, or even send that resume in. There’s a good chance you’ll be earning money online faster than you think.
Good luck!

How to Grow Your Sales with Shopify Landing Pages
Georgia sells boutique hot sauces online and she’s starting to get some traction.
With five years of marketing experience under her belt, she launched her store on Shopify as a side hustle. It’s blown up since then, allowing Georgia to turn peppery products into her full-time gig.
To manage growing demand, she relied on an ecomm agency that promised her 7X ROAS. But the $3,000 monthly retainer didn’t make sense, especially since she wasn’t even close to matching that in ad spend.
So, Georgia set out to do some research on her own. She’s smart, and she’s no stranger to marketing. That’s when she discovered the secret sauce to scaling her ecommerce business.
It wasn’t sriracha. It was landing pages.
Georgia knows you don’t need to be a spice savant to creating marketing campaigns that bring the heat—you just need to know what converts. Read on to learn how Shopify landing pages can help you transform your ecomm sales from mild to five-alarm hot.
Why Use Landing Pages for Shopify?
Tons of companies that sell on Shopify send traffic from their paid campaigns directly to product pages on their website. And, sure, that works well enough for some of ’em. After all, your site gives people a high-level overview of your product offering that landing pages usually don’t.
But the reality is that if you’re not using landing pages to prime visitors for purchase, you’re not converting to your potential.
Let’s say you’re running a seasonal campaign around Black Friday. You’ve got all your Facebook ads set up and ready to go. You hit the red launch button, and… oh no. Your relevance score is crying for help because you’re sending people who clicked a Black Friday ad to a generic product page.
Not only that, but you’re creating an awful experience for visitors. The place they wound up doesn’t match the ad that they clicked. They’re confused, maybe even frustrated. You can kiss that conversion goodbye.
Now, consider the benefits of sending your traffic to a dedicated landing page before they hit your online store:
1. You can get specific with your target audience
Pushing shoppers to a run-of-the-mill product page isn’t ideal since the page probably wasn’t designed to address their needs specifically. The best way to drive ecommerce sales is by pairing custom landing pages with highly targeted ads or emails to help you reach a specific audience at a specific time with a specific offer, encouraging them to take a specific action.
Specificity converts.
2. You can get higher conversion rates by A/B testing
The average ecommerce site in the United States converted at 2.6% last year. Worldwide, that percentage is only slightly higher at 4.3%. Not bad, but also not awesome.
Landing pages let you perform A/B testing at a level of granularity that most ecomm platforms don’t allow, helping you validate their effectiveness and optimize as you go. By tweaking your messaging and tinkering with design elements, you can squeeze even more conversions outta your campaigns.
3. You can deliver a customized brand experience
The product pages that come pre-packaged with themes on ecommerce platforms are meant to be modified to suit your brand, but most businesses just add their content and start sending traffic. That means lots of ecomm brands show up the same, with product pages that lack distinguishing features or meaningful detail.
With landing pages, you can provide a truly customized brand experience before visitors even hit your website—so once they do, they’ll be ready to buy.
4. You can build and launch with less time and money
We’ll be the first to admit there are plenty of head-turning product pages out there. The trouble is that most of these pages have been custom-built by specialized teams who speak Liquid code—and that’s reflected in their cost.
Then there’s the time commitment. Say you’ve decided not to run a Valentine’s Day campaign, but then you have a last-minute change of heart. Your dev won’t appreciate your call at 3 am, asking ’em to put together a product page. (And your designer, copywriter, and other team members won’t be throwing you a party, either.)
5. You can keep visitors focused on making a purchase
Most product pages come with tons of distractions: site navigation, links out to reviews, multiple calls to action. There are plenty of ways for visitors to wander off in the midst of making a purchase.
On the other hand, your landing page is totally laser-focused on getting people to convert. Fewer distractions mean lower bounce rates, which means more sales.
Building Your Shopify Landing Page: Best Practices
Best practices for Shopify landing pages are a lot like any other landing page best practices: message match, context of use, that sorta thing. Still, there are some specific things you can do on your Shopify pages that’ll give them that extra oomph.
Here are some tips to keep in mind while you’re building your Shopify landing page:
Sell the benefits, not the features. Converting in ecomm is all about the benefits of the product. How does it improve your target customer’s life? Think through all of the potential benefits of your product (even the obscure, less tangible ones) and make sure you’re highlighting them on your landing page.
Make it look amazing. Before your audience reads a single word of copy, their emotional response will be to the visuals of your page. Be sure to wow them with your design.
Stun ’em with a video. If it makes sense for your brand, also consider using video on your landing page. Marketers who include videos in their campaigns often see conversion rate bumps of 34%—and with loads of other benefits, it’s a wonder more brands aren’t getting out their camcorders.
Use psychic triggers. Familiarize yourself with concepts like social proof and scarcity. For example, you might wanna include messaging around time-based (“only for the next 24 hours”) or product-based (“only 10 left”) scarcity to drive landing page conversions.
Stay relevant by launching fast. The timing of your ecomm campaigns is huge. No one wants to hear about your New Year’s sale in February, so get crackin’ on those landing pages and launch your next campaign yesterday.
Shopify Landing Page Examples
Here are three examples of Shopify landing pages that were handcrafted by Unbounce customers.
1. Doctor + Daughter
Doctor + Daughter is a cosmetics line made with organic ingredients. You wouldn’t know it by looking at their landing page, but the business behind the brand is actually The Lee Clinic.
One quick look at their website is all it takes to understand why this landing page is vital to their marketing. The homepage does a lot of things—explains who the company is, where they’re located—but there’s no obvious way to find and purchase their products.
Let’s dig a little deeper and take a look at The Lee Clinic’s product list page.
Sending traffic to this page presents obstacles, too. The copy doesn’t really tell us all that much about the benefits of the product. What’s driving me to learn more and buy?
Even the individual product pages bury lots of key information within collapsing bullet points, making it tough for visitors to find out what the products do or how to use them. And while these pages look pretty slick, most ecomm marketers could spot ’em as Shopify templates.
Imagine you get a promotional email from The Lee Clinic advertising a site-wide discount. You click the link and find yourself on the page with their list of products, or even one of the specific product pages. What do you think would do a better job of getting you to buy—that, or this landing page?
The Lee Clinic’s landing page (built by Webistry) does a fantastic job of summarizing the product benefits in a super attractive way. The design isn’t just gorgeous—it’s congruent. Clean. Simple. Professional and eye-catching. Really, it’s just a treat to look at.
And check this out:
This clever section asks visitors what their main skincare concern is, then presents them with a product designed to address that very issue. The Lee Clinic is tying the customer problem directly to their solution. (And this technique can work like magic when you’re retargeting visitors later on down the funnel.)
Also, notice the add-to-cart slide-in on the right-hand side of the page. This minimizes the steps to checkout, making the buyer journey faster, simpler, and smoother. There’s no redirecting to the website, so the entire checkout process can be completed within the landing page. Sweet.
Ready to run email marketing campaigns that’ll blow your subscribers’ socks off? It’s easy—just add landing pages to the mix. Check out how you can drive more email sales by sending your shoppers to dedicated post-click landing pages.
2. Nanor Collection
Nanor Collection sells long-lasting luxury candles, which is to say they burn real slow. If you’re planning a romantic evening (or several, consecutively), these candles are pour vous.
They’ve got an awesome landing page (another from Webistry) that does a great job of showing off their product in an attractive way. It’s sexy. Slick. Simple. An alluring invitation, if I were so inclined.
And look at how the product is showcased here.
Yes, it’s gorgeous and jam-packed with persuasion elements, but that’s only half of it. It sustains the shopper’s experience. It lets them remain on the page, adding items to their cart without ever having to leave. Compare that with the online store on their site, where the user would need to click out and navigate through multiple pages to achieve the same objective.
It’s a great landing page, right? So it’ll come as no surprise to learn it’s converting at a healthy 5.6%.
Let’s compare it with another one of their pages specifically targeting Mother’s Day shoppers. But before I reveal the conversion rate of this one, take a closer look:
Visually, there’s not a huge difference between the two pages. The real change is in the copy: the general landing page highlights a product feature (they’re “long-lasting”) while the Mother’s Day page speaks to the benefit customers can derive from that feature (making your partner feel special with an awesome gift).
The Mother’s Day page has some other things working in its favor. There’s a site-wide discount with an established deadline, plus messaging that indicates there might not be enough of these candles to go around (“while supplies last”). It does a good job of establishing scarcity.
So, which do you think did better?
The Mother’s Day page is converting at almost 15%, essentially turning 3X more visitors into customers than the general landing page. It just goes to show: benefits sell way better than features.
3. DIFF Eyewear
DIFF Eyewear is an eyeglass ecomm that gives up a chunk of their revenue in support of charitable initiatives, helping provide glasses, eye exams, and surgeries to people in need.
The brand has a great-looking website, but like lots of storefronts, it has a ton of elements that distract visitors from making a purchase. There are all those menu items. Multiple calls to action. Different features and incentives like blue light lenses, buy-one-get-one, and philanthropy.
Compare the unfocused (because glasses—get it?) experience of their website with that of this mobile landing page:
Can you see the difference? Here, DIFF tilts its messaging on its head. The main site really focuses on their humanitarianism, and that’s great—it’s what their brand is all about. But here, the copy is all about the value to the customer. There’s no mention of charity. It’s all about making the sale based on the benefits of the product.
Getting Started with Shopify Landing Pages
Whether you’re putting together a business-as-usual campaign or creating something special for an upcoming promotion, you’ve got urgent deadlines that you’ve absolutely gotta hit. That means you need to be able to get slick, super targeted pages up fast.
Forget custom coding. Armed with a powerful landing page builder (like Unbounce), you can adjust everything like Neo in The Matrix—drag, drop, and publish. And with more than a hundred quick-start templates, you can get going right this minute.

or: Where Are These Damn Will Dolls? A Guide to Protecting Yourself from Fandom Scams
Disclaimer: I have received my refund in this situation. I am writing and posting this because some people I care for dearly have not received theirs, despite multiple requests and deadlines. They don't want to post for fear of retaliation and having their refund withheld even further. Maybe a public post will be what it takes to finally get these fannibals their refunds, and save them all the hassle of going to court.
I also think the fandom has the right to know so that people can avoid getting into any situations like this in the future.
The Facts As We Know Them:
In November 2017, Melanie (twitter user @melythemac) made it known to a few fannibals that she had contracted a sculptor to create heads for Will Graham dolls. She promised to personally provide bodies, clothing, and accessories, and to assemble the dolls before sending them to the members of the group order. In January 2018, we each paid her around $200 for all of these things, and she claimed to have sent the money ahead to the sculptor for TEN (10) HEADS TOTAL and ordered all accessories and bodies needed for the dolls.
As a group, we agreed that we'd wait for ALL of the heads to arrive to Melanie, and then she could ship the dolls to each group order member at the same time in order to keep things fair.
She said 10 people were in the original group order. Later, we found at least 11 people had given her money in exchange for dolls.
By June 2018, despite, the original agreement of everyone getting their dolls at the same time, three members of the order had received their dolls. Mads Mikkelsen was also given a doll at Birmingham Comic Con.
At this point, I was frustrated and asked where my doll was. I was given the response that the sculptor only send a few of the heads and more were on their way. They should arrive in a week.
In July 2018, I asked again. The same response was given.
In August 2018, I asked for a refund. The same excuse was given, that the dolls would arrive in a week, but if I didn't want to wait I could have my money back.
In September 2018, the money still had not arrived and I was given excuses about personal life issues, and was told I'd get the money soon. At the end of September, I send an email demanding my refund or legal action would be taken.
Finally, just before my deadline, I received the money.
By October 2018, Hugh Dancy was also given a doll. One more order member also received a doll.
So one year later, in November 2018: 1. 5 fannibals, including Melanie, had dolls 2. 2 cast members had received dolls 3. 1 fannibal (myself) had received a refund 4. 5 fannibals who had paid in full did not have dolls
I was contacted by those who didn't have their dolls, and asked if I ever received mine. I shared my story. After comparing emails and DMs we found that we were all getting the same excuse: it was the sculptor's fault, he hadn't finished the heads, he hadn't sent the heads, the heads will arrive in a week. So I contacted the sculptor (sculpt4ever.com) via facebook chat.
He said Melanie had only ever ordered 7 heads, not 10. He had mailed them and they had arrived between June and September. He provided tracking numbers which proved the deliveries had been received, and he also provided info showing she never ordered more doll heads. Anyone who was getting the 'just one more week' excuse was being strung along. He was shown where she had blamed him on twitter for the delays, and he replied with proof showing she never ordered more than 7 heads. Melanie promptly deleted her tweet blaming him and didn't respond.
In December 2018, those who did not have their dolls sent an email demanding refunds by January 11th or a lawsuit would be filed. Two people have received their refunds in full. Three people are still waiting and documentation for a lawsuit is currently being put together.
The Worst Part of Everything?
Since she only ordered 7 heads, Melanie willingly gave away two dolls fannibals had paid for to Mads and Hugh, with seemingly no intention to replace those dolls any time soon.
And to add insult to injury, during this past year Melanie took trips to Denmark, London, and various locations in the USA. That money could have been used to order more heads and give people the goods they ordered, but it seemingly wasn’t, no matter how many times people asked for her to just give them their doll or give their money back. Right now multiple people still do not have their money back and she is still planning vacations.
And this all doesn’t include the amount of cajoling it took for the people who received their dolls to get theirs. To our knowledge, a majority of the people who received dolls had to send multiple emails and make firm demands to even get theirs (and some apparently were handed over with incorrect accessories)
How to Keep Yourself From Ever Being in this Situation:
No matter how big name the fan is, do not order any high priced goods from them unless they have a proven track record of completing orders on time
When paying for goods, use your credit card. Do not do bank transfer, do not use your paypal balance. That way if you find yourself without the promised items you can call your credit card company and file a charge back. The card company will happily refund your money and go after the seller themselves.
If you ordered something and have not gotten a refund, small claims court is your friend! Filing costs money, but in many cases the defendant will have to refund your money AND the court costs. So long as you have documentation with clear deadlines for payment/refunds it's a slam dunk case. If the defendant doesn't show up to court, depending on the area, you might just win by default. Often, just the threat of small claims will get the seller to give back your money.
And finally- DON'T BE AFRAID TO SPEAK UP! We're a nice fandom that rarely has trouble, but if you're being wronged financially then you need to say something so that others don't fall into the same trap.
I Want A Will Doll!
Please order direct from sculpt4ever
He is super kind, and once your sculpt is painted shipping is SUPER fast: I got my head in just one week. Bodies and clothing can be found on ebay or amazon. Don’t be afraid to ask a will doll owner where they got theirs :)
PS: I am more than happy to provide screencap proof of all of this. I just didn’t add it in order not to make a long post even longer and more cluttered. I hope this allows people who are owed money to get their refunds, and helps everyone in the fandom keep their money a little safer.

A Peek into the Indie Writer World – Part IV: A Walk Through the Process
If you’re thinking of going indie, or have already decided to, you may find yourself wondering what steps you need to take. This is a look at the process, focusing on hard copy books and e-books.
The short version, in bullet format for those with very little time:
Write your story
Identify your output product(s)
Copy edit your story
Purchase and/or assign ISBNs
Request PCN (hard copy print only)
Format the story
Create front matter for printed work
Cover art and design
Publish
Market
The longer version with more details below the cut.
Write Your Story
There are many different ways to write. Use whatever process works for you (drawn out, under tight deadline, or anything in between). Revise and edit your draft to ensure you have the best possible version you can. Many people like to use critique groups or beta readers, other people don’t. The key is that your content (poetry, short stories, novella, or novel) is the highest quality you can make it.
Identify Your Products and Process
You can start looking at the various products and printers out there while you’re still in the writing stage. As your story gets closer to being ready to print, you’ll want to have some decisions on your starting point, at least. Will it be an e-book with print to follow? Or do you just want to start with the e-book and see how it goes? Your plans will influence some of your next steps.
Copy Edit Your Story
Most people think of this as proofreading, finding and fixing typos, spelling mistakes, and grammatical errors. In this case, it also includes ensuring your soon to be published book has a consistent style.
Style is a set of rules that provide a uniform look to a document. This includes things like use of font, font attributes (bold, italic, underline), implementation of flexible or optional grammar (such as the Oxford/serial comma), and the presentation of specialized terms. Most fiction publishers have a house style built off Chicago or AP style, both of which have handy manuals. It ultimately doesn’t matter what style you go with, as long as you are consistent.
In the editing world, style often includes formatting elements, but for the indie writer, some of that formatting will vary depending on the product or products you’re producing.
Things to Watch For
Consistent spelling for names of people and places
Consistent terminology for magic or world-specific details (eg: does the world use shape-shifter, shape shifter, or shapeshifter?)
Use of numbers (phone, age, height, distance) are generally spelled out in fiction
Consistent units of measure (unless there’s a good reason for it, you don’t want to randomly switch between metric and imperial)
If attention to detail and copy editing aren’t your strong suits, copy editing is something you should plan to hire out. You can also just hire someone for the pieces you need done. If you have a handle on your house style, but want someone else to proofread, that’s totally a thing that people do.
Purchase or Assign ISBN
If you’re printing with a company that offers a free International Standard Book Number (ISBN), and you’ve chosen to go that route, you can skip the purchasing step. I personally prefer to have full control of all my ISBNs, allowing me to take them with me if I switch printers or distributors.
Buy your ISBN in advance via Bowker. You will need one ISBN for each product you are producing. A trade paperback needs a different ISBN than a hardcover or audio book. There’s often a discount to purchase multiple ISBNs at one time.
Once you have any needed ISBNs for this project, you’ll need to link the number to a book title, and provide some information on the book and edition (publisher, summary, cover etc). This is a good time to perfect your back-cover blurb or teaser. You can come back and update much of the ISBN information later if you don’t have all the elements at the time you’re doing this.
Request a Preassigned Control Number (print copies only)
If you’re based in the US, you’ll want your book registered with the Library of Congress as this increases the likelihood that it will get into libraries. It also provides some added copyright protection.
You will use the Preassigned Control Number (PCN) process, which takes 10-15 business days. Start this far enough before you plan to complete the publication process, to ensure you have your Library of Congress Control Number (LCCN) before you go to print. If you have trouble navigating the Library of Congress’ website for questions (and you probably will, it’s not as clear as it could be), you may want to explore the PCN Manual.
To complete the process of registering, you will need to send a hard copy of the printed book to the Library of Congress.
Format the Story
Formatting your work can fit in with style, especially after you’ve gone through the indie process and have a handle on what you want and need. Many writers will create their draft in the most complicated format they are planning on producing, just so this piece is well underway (and less frustrating later). Once the book is ready for publication, they’ll make copies to reformat for other products.
At this point you need to know how you plan to publish and what company you’ll be using, as different publishers have different formatting requirements. Be sure you read the requirements before you put in a bunch of work changing your novel into a font you won’t be able to use.
Features you need to make formatting decisions on include:
Page size (determined by the product you are creating)
Margins (leave room for the gutter – the inside margin where the binding is)
Chapter heading font, size, and position
Indent (fiction usually indents first line of a paragraph)
Line spacing (look at similarly sized books to choose number of lines per page)
Section breaks (asterism or section sign are both good choices)
A Note on Paragraph Styles
If you’re not already using paragraph styles in your word processor, you need to start now. Styles designate font, size, and text attributes, as well as features like line spacing and indents. When used properly, styles ensure consistency and a professional looking end product. They also make it much easier to reformat the entire document if you need different features for a different product, or if you suddenly need a different font for your text body.
If you are creating an e-book, you must designate title and heading 1 styles at the very least, as these are used for navigation. Failure to designate these will often result in your book not meeting requirements for distribution.
Accessibility
Do not use extra returns and the space-bar to place text where you want it on the page. This makes your digital end product inaccessible to people with adaptive reading equipment. Screen readers will read every one of those spare characters, and no one wants to hear “asterisk, asterisk, asterisk, asterisk…” as they wait for the next section. Instead, use your styles to put chapter headings where you want them, and use hard returns (ctrl+enter) to separate chapters.
Front Matter
This is the content that comes between the front cover and the first page of the story regardless of whether it is a print or e-book. The professional standard includes:
Copyright page (including the year of publication, ISBN, and LCCN)
Table of contents (this will be automatically generated for e-books)
Title page (should be on the right page for print editions)
Optional content includes:
Acknowledgements
Dedication
Book Cover
This is your primary advertiser for your book, whether it’s print, e-book, audio book, or a serial. You will use this image everywhere to pitch your work. We’ve all been told to not judge a book by its cover, and we all do it anyway, so expect that this is something that must be done right.
Consider your cover a visual extension of the story. It needs to be appealing while giving your reader clues on what to expect. If your zombie apocalypse story has a cover that feels like a Christian devotional, it won’t appeal to some of your readers and you’ll have gone against the expectations of others. You absolutely do not want your book to look like you spewed clip art at the page, a common new indie writer mistake. A generic cover does you no good either.
It’s okay if you don’t have the skills to create a stunning cover for your book; hiring someone to do this for you may be your best bet. It’s worth paying to get a cover that helps readers decide to pick your story. There are a lot of great artists out there, so look around and find someone whose style is a good fit and who you can afford. That said, don’t whine about prices. Artists deserve to be paid what they’re worth.
Publish
The steps at this stage will vary depending on the company or program you decide to go through.
For most print on demand printers, expect to have to buy a proof before the book becomes available to the public.
Market
This stage will vary depending on your comfort level and opportunities. In general, you should be marketing yourself as a writer at any opportunity. This means participating at conventions, doing readings, and posting announcements on your social media and website. Be careful to avoid giving your friends a constant hard sell on Facebook, though. No one enjoys that. Your social media needs to be somewhat active and should include content not specifically related to a recent book release. Posting teaser chapters can be a great try-before-you-buy option.
While this looks like a lot of steps to take, they are spread out over the course of your process of bringing your story to publication, and many are not that onerous. Most print on demand companies have paid services to help with some of these steps, if they seem too great for you to overcome on your own.

What’s in the darkness…ALWAYS comes to light.
youtube
Do not deceive yourself into thinking you can undo, outrun, outshine, rectify, bury or forget your past. When asked, many people are often hard-pressed to tell you what they had for breakfast; however, when it comes to YOUR past, people are like elephants: they never forget—especially the mistakes you’ve made. It is a universal fact: EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES; and sometimes, our mistakes hurt other people regardless our intentions. Sadly, society teaches us to be ashamed of our past failures. People will attempt to use YOUR PAST to control you, extort you, or manipulate you for personal gain; But more often, they will attempt to destroy you by questioning your integrity or motives based on information from your past. We see that shit all the time. For example, a celebrity or politician is subjected to public humiliation because he smacked a stripper on the ass at a bachelor party 30-years ago. BOOM!!! Everything you’ve worked hard for, destroyed in an instant! Now, you’re supposed to make a public apology, retreat with your tail between your legs, and fade away into obscurity. GAME OVER!!! I often tell people: “I don’t have baggage; that implies you’re still dragging that shit around with you. Rather, I have a past.” My past is intense! And not only because of my scandalous mistakes themselves, but also for the devastating and harsh consequences I have suffered as a result. I took my punishment like a man, and I paid my debt to society in full. That means I don’t owe anyone a damn thing! Right? Unfortunately, it’s a little more complicated than that. You see, I have a vision, and it’s epic. It’s one of those God-given, go build an ark, lead your people out of Egypt kind of visions. In a nutshell, I have a plan that will slash the prison population in half, dramatically reduce dependencies on social welfare programs, and put an end to the senseless violence in our cities. I firmly believe my plan will accomplish those things. Furthermore, it’s a selfless plan; a plan that provides a public good for all. In a perfect world, everyone would be thrilled to bring those things to fruition. Sadly, in this fucked up world we live in, there are segments of our society who are going to do EVERYTHING they can to stop my plan from succeeding. Prison is a lucrative industry in which some states even allow the privatization of prisons and other detainment facilities for personal profit. Many who rely on social welfare programs are minorities. It really burns some peoples’ asses to see minorities rise above their appointed social or economic station. Then, there’s the small-minded and selfish attitude, “if those [inner-city folks] are robbin’ and killin’ each other, then they won’t be robbin’ and killin’ us decent folks, so leave ‘em be!” Let’s knock off the bullshit: racism is still very much alive in this country. Lastly, some people just aren’t going to like me, so they will seek to destroy me and everything I am trying to achieve. My attitude is such: if you come at me with the intention to inflict harm of any kind, then I have the right to defend myself. Period! I will not allow my past to be wielded like a weapon against me. I confess: I’ve been a stripper, a prostitute, and a pimp. I’ve battled addiction multiple times with a multitude of different substances. I’ve suffered from sexual addiction, and I’ve been sexually abused. I’ve taken hundreds of naked pictures, and I’ve done porn. I’ve done a lot of things I’m not proud of. Heck, I’ve broken 9 of The Ten Commandments; the only thing that prevented me from going 10 for 10 is the fact I’ve never married. Since committing adultery wasn’t possible, I made up for it by cheating on almost everyone I ever dated. That said, those things brought me nothing but pain, misery, humiliation and suffering. I know that now. However, with the pain and suffering came knowledge and understanding. I don’t judge anyone. Instead, I choose to empathize because I truly do get it. My past is what makes me relatable to the very people I want to help, so I cannot look back on my life with shame or regret. Therefore, there will be no public apologies; I will not slink away with my tail between my legs; and I will not fade away into obscurity. Prison taught me to fight back. My survival often depended on it. People can say what they want about President Donald Trump. However, I admire him for the bold and brash way he handles the hyenas who come nipping at his flanks. President Trump’s comebacks effectively throw his attackers off-balance leaving them stammering. The man has no filter. Sometimes, that’s what it takes. I’m no President Trump though; he’s a big fish in the sea. I’m just a minnow, so big fish strategies won’t work for me. This is my belief: THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN PREVENT YOUR PAST FROM BEING USED AGAINST YOU IS TO MAKE YOUR PAST PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE BEFORE ANYONE ELSE DOES IT. Prison proverb: What’s in the darkness, always comes to light. I cannot take the chance that anything I’ve done will stay in the past. There’s too much at stake. If MY STORY must be told, then I choose to control the narrative. I cannot allow myself to hold back from telling the naked truth because it makes me look bad, or because I feel shame or embarrassment. I look back on my life, and I don’t even recognize the guy who did some of those things. When all is said and done, I hope to be remembered for my achievements rather than my mistakes. I am proof that people can change for the better. I’ve accomplished much since being released from prison four years ago. Necessity now demands I tell my story from the beginning unedited and without apology. May the Lord grant understanding to my readers. They are going to need it!

With more and more people opting for online video streaming services, starting a channel on the YouTube platform is a brilliant move. It also seems like everyone is using YouTube - from performing artists to huge brands and businesses.
Although starting a YouTube channel is easy (since all you have to do is click, and there you have it!), Many beginners make mistakes, and become very frustrated when they do not experience any growth in their channel.
Tumblr media
Here are 11 tips for successfully starting a YouTube channel
(based on My own experiences, by the way).
1 - Plan your content.
Before you even open your YouTube channel, consider the subjects you are interested in, and what it's far you need to mention. YouTube has many niches (There's something for all and sundry to narrate to) - try to determine which one fits your niches. As soon as you've got your niche found out, attempt to come up with a "subject matter" for your films - will you particularly do evaluations? Sketches? Demanding situations? Walkthrough? There are limitless approaches to apply the platform and stand out from a few of the crowd. Don't try to do something you are not crazy about.
2 - have the right device, however not proper away.
If you are just starting. You may use the camera on your cellphone (or pc if it is extremely fine!) for your first few motion pictures. See the way it feels. Benefit confidence in status by myself in a room. And talking to "Invisible humans" on a digital camera. Ensure that your videos are properly. (sitting in the front of a window proper around sunset usually gives satisfactory lighting fixtures), and as you develop, slowly develop your arsenal. Begin with getting a good camera and pass it on to microphones, lighting, props, and other equipment you are interested in.
3 - Don't freak out, in that case, you experience something like you have accomplished this before YouTube com/activate.
Tumblr media
Coming up with revolutionary, in no way earlier than visible content is virtually not possible. Gather proposals from different human beings on YouTube (and usually give them credit for their thoughts!), make "sequels" or "episodes" on your films. Just like TV series, youtube.com/activate smart TV, people like consistency, which also brings me to my subsequent point.
4 - Have a content schedule.
As you will grow, and advantage more subscribers. You may locate humans. Who are looking forward to your motion pictures being uploaded on YouTube .com/activate. Try to devise a program you could hold up with: Start with that posting a video as soon as a week.
Make your videos' duration steady too - it is good enough to "veer off route" now and then, however in case you commonly upload motion pictures that might be 10-15 minutes long, try to hold it that way.
5 - Edit your film's content.
It seems obvious, but a lot of humans do not do it when they Just begin - they will upload "uncooked" footage because of it, and even though it is exciting at instances. What became I approximately to mention? all the time. If it makes your films shorter than you would like, so be it. People come to your channel for enjoyment, despite everything.
6 - Do not evaluate yourself to others.
Anyone struggles on YouTube within the starting, and the battle is actual even wish list you are a "massive shot" at the platform. Be your personal man or woman and stay proper to yourself, do not attempt to mimic other YouTubers.
Tumblr media
7 - Do SEO for best ranking factor.
YouTube is the second one maximum used seek engine online. The street to achievement on YouTube does not begin and cease with uploading content - you want to make unquestionable human beings will understand it is there. Use descriptive titles incorporating applicable key phrases - attempt to suppose like a viewer typing a seek query - and make unquestionable you use tags to your video's description.
8 - Make friends and proportion your channel along with your present pals.
The more connections you've got at the platform the more potential exposure you've got. Let's consider you've got befriended another YouTuber and determined to make a video with them - now you'll have their target market looking at you too, and if they like you, they will visit your channel to see greater of you. Collaborations are a first-rate way to grow your channel. Additionally, use hyperlinks on different social media systems to promote your channel and update your friends and family on motion pictures!
9 - Read your comments in Normal mode please, don't take it to coronary heart.
That is easier stated than completed, nevertheless, it's miles viable. Try to make the high-quality of the state of affairs, and do not get into fights with viewers who do not like you, this is pointless.
10 - Provide yourself a boost Mode.
I realize humans like to get on their excessive horse and pretend like they in no way did or will by no means do that - however, buy some subscribers while starting your channel. I am not speaking to myself about buying hundreds of thousands of subscribers on a channel with one video. While beginning with one video, attempt shopping for up to twenty subscribers and views. Make it look actual and experience actual. As you grow, buy a few greater if you suppose it important.
This "oh so incorrect" idea (absolutely everyone is doing it!) is based on a Mental theory referred to as "social proof" - because of this that people are more likely to subscribe to a channel other people are subscribed to. Consider it this manner - you Won't go to an eating place that no person ever is going to, you will attempt to get a table at the one human beings are.

Could a Car-Sonar Perimeter Shield Police From an Ambush?
All-new 2020 Police Interceptor Utility, with standard hybrid all-wheel-drive powertrain, will save police agencies and taxpayers as much as $5,700 per vehicle annually in fuel costs* over current Police Interceptor Utility equipped with 3.7-liter gas engine
One question after the ambush shooting of two California cops sitting in their police car Saturday: How many ways could it have been avoided? One answer is that technology available on some police cars might have helped: sensors that track the outside activity on the sides and behind the car, provide a motion trail showing people walking toward or away from the car, and optionally, a rear video feed. That scenario describes what happened to the two LA deputy sheriffs in Compton: A gunman approached from the side, walked up the passenger side of the car, and opened fire, apparently with the deputies otherwise occupied. Both were shot multiple times; they survived.
Ford, the biggest seller of police vehicles, offers a Police Perimeter Alert on its police SUVs and pickups. The system automates warning, has the ability to track multiple people around the vehicle, and lock down the vehicle. But some of the additional things required to fully protect cops, such as bulletproof windows that can’t be rolled down, get in the way of effective day-to-day policing.
Ford schematic showing Police Perimeter Alert. People nearby are spotted then tracked. Red means the person is walking toward the police car. The car can automatically roll up the windows and lock the doors.
Ford describes its perimeter shield this way:
Factory-installed Police Perimeter Alert uses sensors to monitor an approximately 270-degree area around the vehicle. It analyzes nearby movement to detect potentially threatening behavior. When such motion is detected, the system automatically turns on the rear camera, sounds a chime, rolls up the windows and locks the doors. Motion trails of the detected threat appear on the digital instrument cluster so officers can monitor.
Another option, Rear Camera On-Demand, lets officers press a button and see an onscreen view of what’s behind the cruiser. On civilian cars, the rear camera is on only when backing up.
This has the potential to provide additional safety, and it could have helped the deputies working transit security in the early evening hours at the Compton Blue Line light-rail station. Some aftermarket companies provide armored police cars, including optional roll-down armored windows, but the costs rise quickly for aftermarket customization.
The feature many urban police departments really want is hybrid propulsion, which optimizes fuel efficiency in stop-and-go driving, and also provides almost an hour of engine-off roadside standing with radios, lights, and climate control on, after running for about 10-15 minutes to charge the batteries. Ford rates the 2020 Police Interceptor Utility hybrid (Ford Explorer) at 24 mpg, 40 percent better than a non-hybrid version.
Screen capture from Saturday’s shooting of two LA Sheriff’s deputies. (LA Sheriff’s Department)
The Cost of Policing to Cops and Citizens
In the wake of the shooting, it’s hard for most people to think about anything other than the recovery of the two wounded deputies. But they also have to think over time about what it costs to run a public safety agency, and what it costs when policing endangers citizens. Nashville just paid a $12 million settlement to the family of Breonna Taylor, an EMT shot and killed by police in 2020. Compton mayor Aja Brown said she was “devastated to learn of the tragedy” but several weeks before, she charged that LA Sheriff’s deputies “terrorize the community.”
As for the dangers of being a cop, the odds of being injured, more than once in a career, are real. The dangers of dying are statistically low. Being a full-time law enforcement official carries a one-in-6,000 chance of dying in any year, and last year 135 police officers were killed in the line of duty. But there are a dozen professions up to nine times more dangerous, commercial fishing and logging most of all. An average of 53 police officers were shot and killed in each year of the past decade, the leading cause of death, followed by various job-related illnesses (41 per year), car crashes (35 per year), and being struck by a vehicle (12 per year).
Reinforcing the subframe lets Ford certify its cars to withstand 75 mph rear impacts.
Making Police Cars Safer
Ballistic armor panel for the car door.
The leading suppliers — Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford — reinforce the body so occupants can survive a 50 mph impact, such as when a drunk driver plows into a cruiser parked off the road. Ford offers a further reinforcement that raises that to 75 mph. Bullet-resistant body panels are standard or available, in several levels of protection. The LAPD actually specifies resistance for four “special threat rounds,” higher velocity 7.62 mm, 5.56 mm, and 30-06 bullets. Front seats have knife-proof seatbacks and are tailored for ease of fastening a seat belt around a service belt. Onboard and body cameras record the day’s work for the protection of both cops and civilians. Many cop cars can bounce over railroad tracks at 30 mph or hit curbs without damage to tires or wheels (steel, not aluminum).
As for whether technology could have saved the two injured LA deputies: An automated perimeter protection system is especially helpful when the car is parked and cops are writing reports or updating logs, or watching, and their attention isn’t on what’s off to the side or behind them. So is an automatic doors-locked, windows up feature. A hollow-point bullet, designed to deform on impact, might not penetrate side glass; a jacketed round might, and a shot from an angle might deflect from the original path. Compton officials only said “several rounds” were fired.
Hearing the perimeter threat warning chime might well have alerted the officers to look up and take action that saved them. The Compton incident may spur public safety departments to look into more officer-protection technologies.
