Vanellope VS. Turbo: A Mini Analysis!

There are a million reasons why Turbo’s reveal in Disney’s Wreck-it Ralph is such an iconic and memorable scene. A scene that I and many others have replayed ever since 2012 and its impact has never left our minds. It solidified King Candy/Turbo as one of Disney's top villains ever created, surprising and shocking viewers with a plot twist that Disney hasn’t been able to overthrow with their other movies before they abandoned villains until King Magnifico but he sucks so. He WISHES he was as charismatic as King Candy plz-

But this analysis isn’t just about King Candy/Turbo, it’s also about Vanellope Von Schweetz. She’s the most important ingredient to making this scene work and play out the way it does and ultimately why it’s so fucking cathartic. ( More so than Ralph’s fight against Cy-Bug Turbo in my opinion) After watching how it was originally story boarded, the crew behind WiR perfected this scene with a specific detail that they changed. In the early storyboard, Vanellope causes King Candy’s vehicle to crash, causing him to glitch and transform into Turbo in front of the cameras. While I love love love the extended race between Vanellope and King Candy and sort of wished it could have been longer in the actual film, I am content that they didn’t go with the direction. In the movie, King Candy is revealed after trying to beat/kill Vanellope with his horn rod/pole thingy from his kart, she grabs it and glitches due to stress/adrenaline/her emotions, her blue glitch traveling through the cane and making contact with King Candy, finally putting down the facade he had on for 15 years and revealing him as Turbo to the characters in the film and the audience. It’s such a small detail, it only happens in a second, but it’s all it took for the start of his downfall and his eventual demise.

And this is why it brings me catharsis every time I watch this scene. I could never put it into words before, but it’s beyond satisfying that the end of King Candy’s horrible reign starts with Vanellope and her glitch. The very same glitch that he caused trying to delete her code and remove her place from the game. The glitch that he used as an excuse to turn everyone in Sugar Rush against her. He usurped her throne and tried to ruin her life. Despite this, he still had the audacity to shout “Get off of MY track!” earlier. It brings his Roadblasters incident back up, it was his choice, trying to steal the thunder of another racing game that just got plugged in because he couldn’t stand the idea of anyone taking his place, only for Turbo Time and Roadblasters to be unplugged. All of this circling back and biting him in the ass. Vanellope was the key all along and he knew it, he feared her despite never really having a conversation with her as far as we know (Vanellope asking Turbo “What the-?! Who are you!?” leads me to believe that if they did converse in the past, it was not in his true form and he was most likely already King Candy. Plus it just goes to show how fast he hijacked Sugar Rush), but you can just tell by how desperate he was to keep her from racing, he didn’t want anyone to take his place ever again.

So the scene continues and his famous line and breakdown goes as this: “I’m Turbo! The greatest racer ever! And I did not reprogram this world to let YOU and that halitosis riddled warthog TAKE IT AWAY FROM ME!” It’s just so ironic, unfair and hypocritical of him it makes my blood boil! And the way he’s raising his voice, jabbing his finger at her and Vanellope’s trying to shrink away from him as he yells at her face before he tries to murder her I just- So cruel, scary, wicked and disturbing! But Vanellope, this brave WARRIOR, is reminded of her glitch after Turbo calls her for what he believes is the last time. “End of the line, Glitch!” She takes a moment, everything slows down around her as she tries to control her glitch to escape Turbo. She glitches away, missing the wall and It ends up saving her life! I just cannot stress enough how beautiful that is! She used her disability, that everyone thought would simply doom her and the game, and embraced it when she needed it most. Her glitch, while it was suddenly given to her by circumstances she couldn’t control or prevent, she took control back. It’s her beautiful superpower and it’s empowering. After this scene, it’s the “end” of Turbo before he gets nom’d by a Cy-Bug. ( I want to note that he later says “I’m the most powerful VIRUS in the arcade”, part of me wants to believe he said that because clearly Vanellope bested him as the greatest racer ever but I doubt that was their intention lol)

They’re the embodiment of Selfishness vs. Selflessness. While Vanellope had everything taken away from her, she didn’t follow the same path as him. Turbo had everything taken from him, but it was his fault and he only ever thought about himself, never about the destruction he left behind. Hell, all she ever wanted was to be one of the racers, no matter how much they bullied her and ostracized her, she never ended up being evil like him even though it would be a perfect recipe to become a villain, this is also what makes her a mirror to Ralph. (Remember in that one deleted scene where she said she wanted to break the racers’ legs but come on can you blame her!?!?! She was so real for saying that.) VANELLOPE IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER EVER AAAA.

Before I ramble any further, I will forever love the choices that the writers made for the climax and it just ends up being an absolutely perfect and brilliant scene and I will continue to rewatch for the millionth time.

there is no fucking way that tom king's shitty oneshot, featuring the most out-of-character riddler known to man and a batman who breaks his no kill rule and waterboards people, got nominated for an eisner award...

#i hate the riddler issue of one bad day so much it's unreal #1. why write a riddler comic if you're gonna be like 'actually he HATES riddles and puzzles and won't be using them anymore'#now he's just some guy who kills people #2. i don't think i need to explain why i hate the concept of batman breaking the no kill rule or waterboarding people #3. trying to make the killing joke relevant again after 30 years? to say that ed was the mastermind behind it?#4. the plot is just. incredibly silly and not in a good way like you're telling me once the riddler stops using riddles he #becomes powerful enough to take over the entire city and batman can't do anything about it except kill him?#and i'm not talking taking over the city like in zero year where there was an actual plan #in one bad day everyone just gets sooo scared of him and his massive brain that they fall in line #5. that is not his fucking backstory #that's like. the complete opposite of it. keeping only the part about him having a shitty dad #he was never a prestigious prep school kid under immense pressure to be the smartest #he was just some kid who went unnoticed by everyone and that's why winning that puzzle contest was so important to him #and then his dad refused to believe he was smart enough to win the contest without cheating and you know the rest #he has a very ordinary backstory that explains a lot about him #meanwhile i feel like tom king was like 'oh shit this series is called one bad day'#'i need to give ed a pivotal moment in his life that made him fucked up and evil'#'how bout i write all this stuff leading up to him brutally killing his teacher at the age of like 15'#and it just sucked ass #i feel like there was more stuff i hated that i'm forgetting but i am not gonna re-read this comic to remember! at least the art was good #oopsie daisy these tags turned out to be much longer than i was expecting - i don't even care about the eisner awards i just saw the #category pop up on the library app that i use and i was like Why is This in here #ransom.txt

Ohh I actually really had to think about this?? Either my memory is really bad or I genuinely just wasn't paying that much attention back when I started writing the first bits of LMT... Because I can't really remember where these specific lads came from? Obviously I didn't foresee how much time I'd be spending with this series in the future and how important these characters would become to me :')

It was supposed to be a quick thing to get me writing again, so everything kind of developed from there with time. I did do some character / background planning etc before I wrote anything, as that's just how I've always rolled with writing and creating characters.

I don't remember too much, mostly that I hadn't been writing in forever, like in years and years, and I really just wanted to get back to it. I do remember being super nervous about posting the first part!🙈 I genuinely thought no one would ever find it, considering it's original work and not a part of some big popular fandom that'd automatically have an audience. I remember thinking; okkk so I just wanna write something and maybe get some feedback on it, and although I'm not really a No-Plot filth/smut writer, filth is universal, so even if it's original work someone might come across it if I make it spicy... big brain moves loll

And then I lured a bunch of yous in with the filth just to punch you in the feels with the later parts of the series >:)

The first one to be created was Nathan though, that's for sure! But I don't remember why how where what etc. He just came to be, and then he was vibin' for a bit, and then I made him suffer a lil because... I dunno, I just felt cute like that 😭 xx

trigun role swap aus where it’s like “vash is the evil one and knives is the good one” are kind of funny to me sometimes because it’s like. it could have been either of them that’s like kind of the point lmfao. like i guess stampede is diff because it shows knives having an angrier more cynical disposition from the get go but like esp in trimax the whole thing is that right up until knives makes that one decision that can’t be undone, there’s nothing fundamentally different about either of them and so when it all goes wrong and they are both left standing in the wreckage it’s like it could never have happened any other way and it also could easily have gone the opposite way

I wonder if the reason vice versa has that insane amount of spons is because they're not just paying for vice versa itself, but for the eclipse too

use the hyped popular shows to get all the money you can get, and then use part of that money to make projects most advertisers don't want to be associated with, like ones that are blatantly anti-government, anti-corruption and pro-lgbt rights.

#I noticed vice versa is sometimes almost 15 minutes of non-stop product placement #just one thing right after the other #but the eclipse has very little of that - if any #I think???? the eclipse has some ads at the start of new parts?#so maybe vice versa is doing double lifting to get the funds for more political/dangerous shows like the eclipse

anyways i got sidetracked from what i was originally gonna post. now that im off my medication for the foreseeable future (with minor exceptions like whenever my mom shares their adderall with me) ive become more acutely aware than ever before exactly how genetically predisposed to addiction and substance abuse i really am

#krav talks #im actively craving alcohol at any time of the day #and only after i got drunk ONCE #the cravings arent severe but its more of like “man drinking would make me feel so much better rn a drink sounds so good”#sorta the same as basically craving like a donut or something #ive experienced this before with smoking when i was like 15 and stole a pack on my mom's cigarettes #i would have a smoke every morning when everyone was asleep but never developed a full addiction bcus i literally forgot where i put them #but that nicotine craving has never gone away #and ive kept a close eye on it since then bcus FUCK being addicted to nicotine that shit is so expensive #i literally cannot afford to be addicted to anything i can barely buy myself shampoo rn #but if someone offered me a cigarette.... yeah i'd take it #im doin the same thing with alcohol rn. well im being a little more indulgent #bcus alcohol isnt as cancer-inducing as smoking #and its more socially acceptable #but yknow. keeping an eye on it. being self-aware of my own habits.#last night i really wanted to drink but instead i had like 7 coffees so im all good #oh im 100% addicted to caffeine honestly #for a brief moment when i was 18 im pretty sure i was close to an adderall addiction #but then i stayed awake for 72 hours that one time and heard people whispering my name and thought my food was made of maggots & ants #so i cut that shit out for the most part. my brain functions & sleeping habits have never been the same since then :)

SPOILERS FOR V AFTER ENDING EPISODE 3

I have to say, it's gratifying to see Saeyoung in this light. I sense that he is glaring fiercely at Jumin, daring him to say anything else that could be misunderstood regarding Saeran, and that if he does, it will be his last. Jumin's life is on the line as Saeyoung prepares to put an end to it if he doesn't regain even a shred of consciousness. If something were to happen to Saeran, we know that Saeyoung is capable of extreme cruelty. We can only speculate as to his mental and emotional state at the time he suddenly abducted Rika.

I haven't unlocked the further episodes yet, but I can't wait to see more of Saeyoung's frightening side. No one can guess what he may be up to if he had the chance. Here come the overprotective and loving brother! (No spoilers please!)
