One recent autumn afternoon, I watched the Atlantic gusts collide with the cliffs that rise above Nazaré, Portugal. Rain pelted down, and the world-renowned swells rose into walls of water that even the most death-defying surfers reach only via Jet Ski. For me, this looked like a rained-out, late-season beach getaway, but for the sliver of Iberia that is Portugal, it looked like a bright future. That weekend, the nation of 10 million ran on nothing but wind, solar and hydropower.
As it turned out, those rainy, blustery days were just a warmup. Portugal produced more than enough renewable power to serve all its customers for six straight days, from October 31 to November 6.

Noemia/Nikita Azevedo [she/her, or he/him, 25] seems to call all the attention when they walk into a room. Admittedly, there's not much you know about N, you've only met them once and that was when you were in your pre-teens. You know they're extremely talented, placing third last years UTT and being put in as a wild card this year. From the interviews you've seen and fellow surfers who are friends with them; they know they're good. They seem to drip of charisma even through screens and rumors. You wonder, though, watching their interviews if it's a facade or not. How long can a mask be used until it breaks?
N stands at 5'8 with a toned, athletic build. They have dark russet skin. Their face is heart shaped with a small scar through their left eyebrow. Their eyes are grey. Noemia has kinky hair that in it's natural state falls just below her shoulders. It's usually styled in bohemian locs that reach the end of her shoulder blades; sometime in a braid or low bun. Nikita has kinky hair that in it's natural state reaches just past his chin. It's usually styled in bohemian locs that reach just above his shoulders; always kept in a full or half ponytail. Their usual clothing style is sporty and summery; tank tops, compression shirts, athletic shorts, jean shorts, windbreakers, sneakers, flip flops, hoodies, track pants. They're never not seen wearing at least one piece of jewelry. They tend to be sparse with jewelry, though something they're always seen wearing is a sliver ring with a teardrop shaped opal jewel in the middle, sitting on a leather chain around their neck. They're seen carrying a yellow and white crossbody bag with and abundance of pins of it almost always. A few hairties are always around their wrists.

You know the whole 'Hi we have the cure for cancer but we're not going to share it with the world' awful, literally. Mythos thing about Wakanda made notice something
The cure was cancer was definitely not a silver age thing
It stated Kirby made Wakanda (though their advance technology was a later on addition) because he was tired of poverty porn Africa
And Wakanda xenophobia was acknowledged, because I learn there a page in a silver age comic where an African American character went “what’s up brother!” to a Wakandan
And the Wakandan him a “mute”
Now here my theory because when your…ancestors went to Europe for the world wars
Actually I think a lot of white Americans (especially poor ones) had a fetishized view of Europe. And they probably had they until WW1 where many had a one in a lifetime experience to meet Europeans
Then the Europeans immediately pointed out that Americans are foreign to Europe as a Chinese person.
Which definitely broke the illusion of Europe and lead to our modern American identity
Make sense?
So sliver writers probably took that account with doing black panther Mythos
Now the cure for cancer thing, oh I got my suspicions but I think older comic readers can help
But in the 00’s there was two black writers one named Houdini and the other Christopher Priest
Now I vauge on Houdini, but him and priest had that “WE WUZ KINGS” mindset
So they pushed the advance Wakanda shit…while saying that it’s a okay that Wakanda is xenophobic as fuck.
Actually I’m going to do a part to, but I notice something with black Americans writers when they get their hands on stuff.
Oh btw for Priest, well MCU Wakanda was heavily based off his run….
But Priest and the creator of boondocks had a falling out
To the point McGrunder took a piss out of him in a boondocks episode
Oh, priest had black panther beat silver surfer by using a wrestling move….so you can guess his mindset….Im not better with some crazy shit he tried to pull at dc in the 2010’s…no sir ree…
Actually I think a lot of white Americans (especially poor ones) had a fetishized view of Europe. And they probably had they until WW1 where many had a one in a lifetime experience to meet Europeans Then the Europeans immediately pointed out that Americans are foreign to Europe as a Chinese person. Never thought about it that way, though there is a lot of genetic memory in Americans we have tried to keep where we came from with ourselves to a degree, or at least some of us do.
Go find the local Greek community or little Saigon, Chinatown, Little Italy, and so on.
(relevant tangent time)
Guy named Andrew Doro (looked it up) made a splash several years back by chronicling his journey to eat food from every country in the world without leaving NYC, got his blog, and IG, looks like he's still going most recent post is from 5 days ago.
Older interview here
Not something you can do in Billings Montana but it's a cool project.
But ya some of us have done our best to keep the "old world" alive in our new home, you also get the families that came over and assimilated themselves forcibly.
Or you get mutts like me who's family roots go back before the revolution in some parts and while I know what my DNA says I also know that I'm American and not Irish or German.
Probably a good deal of what you were talking about going on in the aftermath of WW1 and 2 for sure, GI's staged in England before D-Day which was close enough to the US to not throw them but I'm sure folks had some culture shocks seeing the "old world" first hand.
We also can't forget
Tumblr media
I imagine some weebs have a similar experience.
As for the comic stuff I am not well enough versed in those to even say which is golden or silver age, I just recall that there was a deal with them holding on to the cure for cancer.
Mostly brought up when you'd get people talking about how great Wakanda was and their only experience was MCU, which is lots of people for lots of the characters in the MCU.
Had someone spouting off that Captain America wouldn't use guns, just his shield like steven universe, double dumb because he was shown using guns in The First Avenger.
But I'm sure I have a fair number of followers that will have the information on that and hopefully one or more of them adds it here or if they want to send it as a ask that works too.
Honestly my biggest issue with MCU BP was people thinking that either Wakanda was real or it's what Africa would have been like if not for colonialism.
Which both things are insane just for different reasons.

Galactus and Sliver Surfer, Procreate
This is definitely my best digital drawing so far altough i dont have much digital drawings. I was reading a comjc book from marvel called "Annihilation" and this was a page in that book. I really liked it and i wanted to draw it but digitally. So i just opened that page and drew it. Im really glad of how it turned out however i could have made Silver Surfer darker because he is in the front. In this page Galactus was giving his powers to Silver Surfer and making him his herald once again after some time. There are more pages that i loved and i might draw them im the future. I will make sure to post it here. I hope you liked this one ^^

hey, i wanted to send this much sooner but i actually got very busy with holiday stuff myself! which reminds me, i was looking online for a specific hercules pin i wanted to buy for myself, and thought of your blog when i came across a really cute pin of young tarzan & terk. it was apparently released in 2021 so i'm glad the movie hasn't been completely forgotten by disney in recent years. makes me wish jane had a classic doll like megara and esmeralda have.
also, yeah, there's quite a few art books for disney and other animation companies (i'm thinking of certain dreamworks books, for example) that are older and/or out of print and have gotten way too pricey now. so i was really grateful they rereleased the mulan one because it's absolutely gorgeous.
ooh that's really cool about the tazan book, i hope you do find a copy you can take apart and scan someday! and i think it's awesome that you've loved tarzan for so long. would you say it's been your favorite disney movie from the first time you saw it, or did it take some time for it to sink in or grow on you? for me, i'd say frozen became one of my favorite movies as soon as i saw it, but beauty and the beast, while i always really liked it, was a movie that grew on me more and more as my tastes changed and i started loving it more than my previous favorites.
-🌟
Hello! No worries, I completely understand life getting hectic.
I hope you were able to find the Hercules pin you wanted!!
I know the Tarzan pin you're talking about, its so cute! I would give anything for a Jane classic doll, would de so nice to see her join Esmeralda and Meg. I'm really hoping for a LE 17" for the 25th anniversary, and there's a slim chance it may happen, but I'm not holding my breath. There's still that annoying copyright issue that gets in the way. According to Steve Thompson (the artist who designs the Disney Store Christmas ornaments every year) Disney has the rights for Tarzan products sold within the parks, which is how the pin was possible. Not sure how that would work with a Jane doll, but at least there's a sliver of hope.
Good news though! Next month is the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, and Steve will be there with 3 pieces, one of which is Tarzan!!! He's revealed the full look at his Atlantis and Treasure Planet pieces, hoping he'll post Tarzan within the week (I will be sure to share it here when he does). Prints of his work will be available at the festival, and they usually show up on ebay too.
I think it would be fair to say I loved Tarzan before I saw it, lol. Back in the day, before the internet became so accessible, we used to find out what the next Disney movie was in the previews on the VHS of the last one. I'll never forget Feb 2, 1999… I raced to the grocery store after school to buy Mulan because I couldn't wait to see it again. In the previews was the first part of the Movie Surfers look at Tarzan Every year those previews would get me so excited for the next movie, but something about Tarzan just hit different. I almost didn't watch Mulan that night, because I kept watching it over and over again. I think I fell in love with Tarzan before I got halfway through that preview, and I seem to love it more every day.
That's so interesting that your 2 fav movies got you in such different ways. What is it about Frozen that made you fall in love with it so fast? What's your favourite thing about Frozen? And same for beauty and the Beast? I also have to say I think it's so neat that BatB is the one that had to grow on you a bit, it kind of fits the theme of the movie.

Hela’s Mini Reviews: The Fantastic Four Movies!
Fantastic Four (2005): Pure campy fun!! Great cast with good chemistry. CGI is a bit dated for Reed but Sue and Johnny’s are flawless. Ben’s rock form was all practical which was a good decision. Doctor Doom is at his best here.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer: Considered the best of the franchise by many fans, this sequel went more comedic and the cast once again shines. Ioan Gruffudd delivers the best performance of the main cast and still gives me chills. The Sliver Surfer is still amazing and Doug Jones’ body with Lawerence Fishbures voice worked for me.
Fant4stic:....reshoots can be a blessing or a curse. In this case it was a curse. Main cast has decent chemistry (Kate Mara and Jamie Bell went on to get married and have kids, good for them!) and give the best performences they can given the shitty script. John Trank famously despises this movie and the cast has moved on to better projects. Teller is better in Top Gun Maverick and Micheal B. Jordan was phemonenal in Black Panther. Skip this.
It’s gonna be easy for the MCU reboot to be decent as the bar for worst Fantastic Four movie is so high!

New York Times: R-Rated Rock Concerts? Marilyn Manson and Mom?
By Neil Strauss Dec 1, 1997
In an attempt to save their businesses from complaining parents, restrictive legislation and increased police scrutiny, concert hall operators are considering a rating system for performances similar to those used for movies, television shows and recordings.
They are evaluating proposals that range from an industry wide obscenity-warning label that would appear on tickets to movie-style ratings. A rating of G would denote tame fare, while an R would be assigned to risque hard-rock and rap concerts off limits to minors not accompanied by adults.
''Do I think a rating system is needed? Yes,'' said Scott Williams, the general manager of the Delta Center arena in Salt Lake City, who participated in a panel discussion of the issue at a recent industry convention. ''Do I think it's coming? Yes. Will it be a help to me in running this facility? Yes.''
Several state legislators are preparing bills requiring music promoters to warn parents about concerts with obscene language or gestures. Other lawmakers are considering banning minors unaccompanied by adults from certain shows or just forbidding those concerts altogether.
''Our kids are being affected by this trash,'' said Daniel Tripp, a Republican state representative in South Carolina who is drafting a bill to prevent explicit concerts from being performed at places owned or financed by the state. ''I want to have some standards set up. I'm looking at these concerts in the same way I do pornography.''
But there is fierce opposition to such measures. Some in the music industry feel that not only will concert ratings hurt the business, because many rock and pop bands have a high-school-age following, but that they are illogical as well.
''I would fight concert ratings to the death,'' said Nina Crowley, executive director of the Massachusetts Music Industry Coalition, which combats efforts to restrict or rate musical expression. ''How do they know what's going to happen in a concert? Music's not that predictable, and it shouldn't be.''
From the days of vaudeville and burlesque to the birth of rock-and-roll to the rise of heavy metal and rap, there have always been off-color shows. Local obscenity and zoning laws serve to restrict some of these performances. But never has the call to rate and classify performances been so strong.
''Most parents have never heard of the groups their kids are going to see with their friends,'' Mr. Williams said. ''When they read that during the concert the male vocalist dropped his pants and played with himself, they'll call me and ask what kind of idiot I am to be showing this stuff to their kids. They have no way of finding out ahead of time, so they need a rating system. And quite frankly, so do I.'' He continued, ''If we don't start some kind of system soon, somebody else is going to do it for us.''
To some extent, the focus on concerts has been shaped by a ratings ground swell. Recently, most television networks began rating their shows for content. Last month a Congressional subcommittee held hearings calling for stronger advisory labels on recordings with explicit lyrics. And some 40 organizations, including software companies, Internet businesses and children's advocacy groups, are meeting in Washington today to debate Internet content ratings.
The concert industry takes in an estimated $2.5 billion in ticket sales a year. Bob Grossweiner of Performance magazine, a trade publication, estimated that a quarter of those proceeds are from concerts that include expletives or obscenity, whether in a song, a speech or accompanying dancing.
Less than 2 percent of that revenue, others estimate, comes from bands that deal with explicit themes in nearly every song. Only a tiny sliver of groups give shows that revolve around gory or sexual theatrics, including well-known performers like Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson, and lesser-known ones like Gwar, the Impotent Sea Snakes and Insane Clown Posse. A few acts (Butthole Surfers, Jane's Addiction, Catherine Wheel) have nude or topless dancers or show violent or pornographic films onstage.
The spark that lighted the fires for concert ratings and restrictions, many say, was a yearlong tour by the cross-dressing hard-rock group Marilyn Manson that ended this fall. As the band traveled the country, trailing rumors of onstage antics both false (killing puppies, dispensing drugs to minors, sacrificing children to Satan) and true (tearing up Bibles, using the American flag as toilet paper, screaming obscenities), some towns and legislators mobilized to stop the band from performing.
Representative Tripp tried to pass a resolution forbidding Marilyn Manson from performing on state property. But he was forestalled when the University of South Carolina in Columbia, where the concert was to be held, used a clause in its contract enabling it to pay the band for the concert without letting it perform. The bill remains in committee.
The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority forbade Marilyn Manson to perform at Giants Stadium this year but was forced to reverse its decision by a Federal District Court judge. In Virginia, a Richmond city councilman asked the Council to research the legality of rating concerts after attempts by city officials to cancel a Marilyn Manson show failed there.
Dale Shugars, a Republican State Representative in Michigan, had a nonbinding resolution passed asking concert-hall operators to restrict the access of minors to shows by acts whose recordings have parental advisory warning labels. Representative Shugars said he wanted to make that resolution a law, with a few minor changes.
Alex Kochan, who books Marilyn Manson's concerts, noted that the band has abided by local obscenity ordinances during its current tour, dropping the more outrageous stunts of its early club shows. ''Building managers think that they will be hurt at the box office if there aren't steps taken to warn people about what's going on,'' he said. ''But by the time most bands get to be national attractions, they don't do the same thing. The process of becoming a national act is self-governing.''
Still, some in the industry are open to discussing concert ratings. Hillary Rosen, president of the Recording Industry Association of America, said she would oppose any attempts to restrict minors from attending rock concerts but would not object to an efficient parental warning system similar to the one her organization established for albums 12 years ago.
But a problem with rating concerts, both critics and some supporters of such measures say, is that unlike television programs and movies, concerts can change from show to show.
The solution most likely to appear in the next year, some say, is not an industry consensus on concert ratings but individual building owners establishing their own system with their communities in mind. Mr. Williams of the Delta Center arena, for example, said it was possible to rate a concert in advance. Of the ratings system used for films, he said: ''I'd contract with the artist that I want a PG-13 show, and if they still want to do an X show, they can take it somewhere else.'' Others, like Michael Marion, general manager of the Alltel Arena in Little Rock, Ark., advocate that bands that must carry the recording industry's parental advisory warning on their albums should replicate that advisory in their local promotions. Concert-hall managers must straddle the fence, said Mr. Marion, who organized the panel debating concert ratings. ''There's freedom of speech, but there's also a community that has certain expectations about what type of entertainment you present. Parents should be informed if something's not acceptable to community standards.''
First Amendment activists have taken a stronger stance against concert ratings. ''There's a whole hysteria to provide parents with tools, tools to find out what's out there,'' said David Greene of the National Campaign for Freedom of Expression, based in Washington. ''But the minute we decide to label, we're making decisions for these parents for what is important to them and what isn't. Bands promote themselves with a certain image. They don't hide it. Ratings are the first step toward government involvement and intervention and legislation. It's not innocuous. And it's unnecessary because the information is already out there.''
Others say the debate is misplaced, focusing on morality rather than safety. ''What nobody's touching is concert safety, noise levels, moshing and stage-diving, which is continuing to injure concertgoers,'' said Paul Wertheimer, the president of Crowd Management Strategies in Chicago. ''There hasn't been one rule, one guideline, one law established for this kind of concert safety in 45 years.''

what you think billy howle aka dathan as sliver sufrer and what your option?
That would be interesting. I haven’t seen Howle outside of SW, but I’ve seen actors shine when given the right script and director. It will depend on if Silver Surfer is in MCU’s Fantastic Four. I’m excited that Pedro Pascal is in it!

Why did I create Melman(Man themed Meldot Skin) on October 3rd? Am I stupid? Or have I ran out of ideas for skins for Meldot because in the past few years I've been doing this event I've already drawn him as Harley Quinn, Hugo Strange, Jason Voorhees, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, a alien, Green Lantern, Electro, The Sliver Surfer, and a lego. Why haven't more of you been giving me suggestions for what skin I should draw next? Are you stupid?
