Hello again! I can definitely understand being in the post military feels. I think I've gotten emotional over every departure and return so far. Like sometimes you don't even realize how much you missed them until they return. I have to say the way you describe Chanyeol was lovely.
In answer to some of your questions, I'll answer some but if I feel that it might reveal or at the least narrow down the possibilities, then I'll save those answers til the end if you're still interested in hearing them. There's not much I can think of to tell you about myself. Um I like to read, write and create edits and moodboards. I work probably more than I should so I don't have a ton of free time, but what time I do have is spent either online talking to friends and doing the above mentioned or in the kitchen. I like to cook and explore flavours and recipes. I'd love to travel the world and learn new techniques and dishes but sadly I'm stuck with YouTube.
You said you like to read and watch things are there any particular that stand out to you that you'd recommend? Don't feel limited to hard copy books it could be fic too if you'd like.
Speaking of fic....what sort of gift were you thinking of....I'm capable of, well, what I mentioned earlier lol, I'm not sure if I'll have time for fic writing, but if you'd care to share some ideas for your gift maybe a few wants in each category you're interested in?
(Ps. Ramble away and talk my ear off I do not mind at all. Make these as long or short as you want!)
Hey there, sorry for keeping you waiting with my response. 🙊 I hope you've been well.
And yes, with every enlistment i've been frequently hit with waves of missing each of them a lot. But I'm getting all excited thinking about how we are more than halfway through already - Baekhyun's coming back soon (gosh i miss him-) and then it's only Sehun and Jongin which will sting but after them they are all done. That's such a good thought ^-^
Tumblr media
Hehe, I'll surely come back to those questions later, I enjoy reading other people's takes on their biases and all that a lot ^^
Ohh, cooking and traveling - how fun~ I love travelling a lot too! Are there any places/countries you want to visit especially? And for cooking, are there any dishes you enjoy making and/or eating most? And which would you love to try but didn't have the chance to yet? I'm not big on cooking because I'm too lazy and rarely take myself time for it ^^' but I am fond of baking every now and then, hehe, at least i watch baking asmr videos on youtube every now and then and try out some things I've seen every now and then xD
Man, I'm really bad at picking favourites because I really love so many books/movies/etc and each in a unique way, so it's hard to choose.
My favourite fanfic tho is probably On the Booze with Brahms (it's a chanbaek fic, in case you are not into ships) - it unites so many of my favourite tropes *^* But I also love the works of @marshmallow-phd and @guardians-of-exo on here - both are such talented writers and did fic series i enjoyed reading very much.
My recent favourites for books are The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon, This Is How You Lose The Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone & The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (which i both read last year but i am still so impacted by them), I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson (which i read two or three years ago but is one of the most heart-wrenching stories), all the Grishaverse books by Leigh Bardugo and the books from the Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers.
All time favourite (and recommended) movies are Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amelie Poulain (2001), Donnie Darko (2001) Everything, Everywhere, All At Once (2022) but I also love the usual fantasy/sci-fi stuff like The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Harry Potter (fuck JKR tho) and so on.
For series I love Gilmore Girls a lot, I loved The Queen's Gambit too and Anne with an E and recently also Stranger Things (jumped on the hype train after season 4 was out xD). I also sometimes watch K-Dramas, I haven't seen that many tho because they not always pique my interest but the last two I watched got me pretty invested, My Liberation Notes (2022) and Rain or Shine (2017) and I am also watching Bad Prosecutor now, which is the first of the dramas starring Kyungsoo for me and I am really enjoying it so far!!
Ok that was a lot ^^'
For my gift I really don't have a preference, I know that especially writing something demands time so please don't feel obligated at all to do that, if you don't get around to it. Ideas for stuff I'd enjoy would include basically anything with music xD I am a sucker for everything from making mixtapes/playlists for each other (with whatever sentiment btw it doesn't have to be romantic) to making music together, songwriting together, that kind of stuff. But I am also absolutely infatuated with Baby-Zzar (who isn't even a real baby anymore but she'll always be for me xD) and Toben the little rascal too, so any pet parent themed things would absolutely make me squeal as well. (I hope you can work with that answer a little, I tried not to be too "Idc I'll be happy with whatever ^^" which is totally true but probably wouldn't help you at all with coming up with a gift idea)
Anyway, that much from me, I already wrote so much again xD
Have a good time, dear secret santa ♡

Reflections on April’s Reading Goals
To my regret, I had to put Radio Silence (Alice Oseman) and The Gilded Wolves (Roshani Chokshi), and Ace of Shades on my DNF pile. I just wasn’t enjoying them enough to continue with them. I was disappointed by Radio Silence in particular, especially since reading I Was Born for This left me on such a high. Don’t get me wrong, it was written beautifully, but it didn’t have the knock-out punch that I Was Born for This had.
I also put down my audiobook reread of Amanda Foody’s Ace of Shades. I might try it again later, I’m just not really in the mood now.
I’m still reading Northanger Abbey, but I find myself not inclined to pick it up. I do want to keep going with it though, because I remember liking it on my first attempt. I also finished Slay, which was lighthearted and fun – but I don’t think I’ll read the sequel. One book was enough.
Participated in some Booklr interaction but I’m definitely not up to my usual standards.
I read NO books on my backlist. Oops.
I think the spreadsheet may have been a mistake. Call me lazy if you want, but it just seems like too much upkeep. Maybe I’ll remove some categories to make it easier for myself. I’m a bit sad though because I had such noble intentions!
I DID end up making a moodboard – using Canva. Unfortunately, the only notes it got were from me reblogging it. Maybe I should try again using a more well-known book?
I’ve made a start on The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. I’m finding it a bit slow-going at the moment but I plan to stick with it. Didn’t start On the trail of Genghis Khan yet but I plan to this month.
I’m close to the end of Tatiana Maslany’s reading of Mockingjay. As usual, her work is excellent, although I forgot what a tough slog the third book is. Grim doesn’t really cover it.

36 new followers
This brings my total number of followers to a WHOPPING 792! Only 8 more before I get to 800 followers, which is more than I ever thought I’d get for this little sideblog. Thank you all!
Interesting observations
Well, this was a successful month…NOT! But I’ve been looking at other monthly wrap-ups being posted for April and it seems like everyone else is in the same boat as me – thrown for a loop by the COVID-19 pandemic. Suddenly I have got way too much time on my hands and even though you would THINK that I’ve got no excuse now not to read, it hasn’t happened.
Ditto with interaction on Booklr.
Reading (and reading-related) Goals for May
Finish all the books in progress – it can’t be THAT difficult, right?
Start On the trail of Genghis Khan
Start at least one of my 3 e-books (Joanna Ruth Meyer’s Echo North, Cameron Dokey’s The Storyteller’s Daughter, or If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio)
Reread Neal Shusterman’s Scythe and then read second book in the Arc of a Scythe trilogy, Thunderhead. I MAY get to the third book, The Toll if there is time, otherwise I’ll carry that one into June (and maybe by then social restrictions will have eased).
Start at least ONE book from my backlist
Start Saga Land by Richard Fidler and Kári Gíslason
Make at least ONE more moodboard
Participate in at least one book challenge or game on Tumblr
Read my new library hold, As far as the stars by Virginia Macgregor
I think that’s quite enough to be getting on with, don’t you?
See you all in one month for the May Wrap-Up!

Get To Know Me Tag Game
Woo! I love being tagged in these! Thank you @writingiswilde for tagging me - now I can procrastinate guilt free!
Name: Dominic, though Dom is just far easier for everyone involved.
Birthday: February - I tend not to have my birthday online, so that’s all you’re getting for now!
Zodiac: Aquarius
Height: This is a little contentious... I tell people I’m 6ft, but the doctors and the measuring tape disagrees.
Hobbies: reading (obviously), writing, tennis, bouldering, occasionally calligraphy, giving my dog belly rubs.
Favorite Color: Sunset orange/ sunrise pink.
Favorite Books: This could be a long section... The Inheritance Cycle (Christopher Paolini); The Priory of the Orange Tree (Samantha Shannon); The Farseer Trilogy (Robin Hobb)
Last Song Listened To: Feel Good Inc. (Chase Eagleson) - he’s a Youtube artist. If you’d like a more ‘mainstream’ artist, I’d go with Belter (Gerry Cinnamon) or Longshot (Catfish and the Bottlemen) - I don’t remember which!
Last Movie Watched: How to train your dragon 3.
Inspiration for Muse: Often it can be expressions of speech, or simply asking myself ‘what if?’ in a certain scenario. Of course, reading other writing is a massive source of inspiration, too, and seeing people’s moodboards and aesthetics on here!
Dream Job: I would love to work in the publishing industry! It’s what I’m working towards. Otherwise, I’d love to work in the intelligence services, so MI5 or similar. Though for a simpler life I’d love to work with animals.
Meaning Behind URL: when I first joined Tumblr, I was using it as a place to put things that inspired me. I was more of a poet at the time, and I’d use to it try stuff out, or store ideas for me to return to another time should I recall something mildly relevant.
I’m going to go ahead and tag people who have recently followed me, but feel free to ignore if you don’t want to join in!

Reflections on June’s Reading Goals
I finished The Priory of the Orange Tree! I know I said I was going to take my time over it, but the last 200 pages or so set such a cracking pace that I had no choice but to read it to the end. I’m proud of myself for finishing this one, more so than anything else I’ve read so far this year.
Finished Harley in the Sky and Green Valentine. I DNF’d Onyx & Ivory in the end because I felt the plot was too familiar and was riddled with cliched tropes. Or maybe the Throne of Glass series ruined me for books of this nature.
Still did not start any e-books, and to be honest, I’m not sure if I’m going to get to them anytime soon. I still prefer the feel of physical books. But the e-books aren’t going away so I will get to them. Eventually.
Finished The Toll. Overall I enjoyed it, although I felt like it was a bit long, and the ending felt rushed. I also feel like the villain of the story did not get a satisfying comeuppance for all his acts of evil. I think Shusterman perhaps tried to cram too many ideas into this one, and it confirmed what I’d initially thought about these books – the romance did not need to be there!
Didn’t reread The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, but TBH I pretty much expected that. My heart isn’t ready yet!
Not as much Booklr interaction this month – but I think it’s always going to be a bit up and down, so I’m not TOO worried. Yet.
Still behind on my reading goal for 2020. I’m getting there though!
Started Saga Land (see above). I’m finding it a little difficult to get into fully, but I’m going to persevere with it for now. I suspect it’s one of those books that works well if you read it slowly, so that’s what I plan to do.
No more moodboards for now. I’m not so motivated to do them, especially as the first one I did received literally no attention.
As for reading authors of colour, see my notes under “Interesting observations” and “reading goals for July”.
New followers
66 FOLLOWERS! HOLY -! I have no words. Seriously, you are all amazing.
On a side note, I’m now less than 70 followers away from reaching that big old 1K mark. Think I can get there?
Interesting observations
I signed up for Storygraph this month. I read raves on Tumblr about how good it was (especially as compared with Good Reads), so I decided to give it a go. It’s got some neat features and I’m looking forward to seeing what the developers bring to it in the future. I’m keeping my Good Reads account for now, mainly because it lets me update my progress which Storygraph doesn’t yet (although here’s hoping they’ll do it in future).
The Black Lives Matter movement had a definite (and positive impact) on my reading and book blogging this month. For the time being, I’ve decided to focus on reading books specifically by Indigenous Australian authors because I want to relate to the BLM movement as it exists here. I plan to read more books by non-Australian authors of colour in the future for sure though!
Reading (and reading-related) Goals for July
Read more books by authors of colour, particularly those by Indigenous Australians. I just finished (as of July 1st) Catching Teller Crow but I also have Growing Up Aboriginal (edited by Anita Heiss), The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf (The Tribe #1) by Ambelin Kwaymullina, and Grace Beside Me by Sue McPherson on my TBR shelf.
Finish my current reads, Saga Land and Thorn.
Make a start on the other books on my TBR shelf (besides  the ones I mentioned in my first point on this list): The Midnight Lie (The Midnight Lie #1) by Marie Rutkoski, Dark of the West (Glass Alliance #1) by Joanna Hathaway, Caesar’s Women (Masters of Rome #4) by Colleen McCullough, and Please Don’t Hug Me by Kay Kerr.
Participate in more book photography challenges – I felt this month was a bit lacking.
Catch up with my goal of reading 70 books in 2020 – I’m up to 32, so I want to reach at least the halfway point this month (I’ve been a bit behind lately).
I think I have a habit of setting myself too many goals with my reading and end up falling short, so this is where I’ll leave things for now. Hopefully, these July goals will be a bit more manageable.
See you all in August for my July wrap-up!

Reading (and reading-related) Goals for April
Before I begin this, I should say that I’m currently in near-lockdown conditions where I am thanks to the dreaded COVID-19 outbreak, so that means I have less of an excuse not to achieve this month’s goals. And the next month – and the next…
Finish all the books currently in progress, especially the audiobooks
Read Slay by Kim Curran. It involves a boy band who have a side job as demon-slayers. Not my usual fare, but it got good reviews so it should be a fun, light read.
Read at least 1 book from my backlist
As ever, participate in at least one bookish challenge or game
MAYBE start doing reviews now I have more time to do so. Don’t hold your breath though.
Update the spreadsheet I’m using to track my reading
Try my hand at making moodboards. I have said I’d do this previously, but this time I’m really going to do it. Time to start exercising those graphic-making muscles again!
Make a start on my last book purchases this month – The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon, and a non-fiction book, On the Trail of Genghis Khan: an epic journey through the land of the nomads by Tim Cope. The latter book is a written account of Cope’s overland trip from Mongolia to Hungary, a trip documented in a TV series I watched some time ago and really enjoyed.
Make a start on Mockingjay as read by Tatiana Maslany. I have no doubt her work will again be excellent.
Reflections on March’s Reading Goals
Despite my not actually reading as many books this month, I did complete all but one of my reading goals, so yay me!
Didn’t start reading Northanger Abbey until the end of March and am still reading in April, so there goes that resolution. Hopefully, I should finish it by the end of this month though.
New Followers
36 new followers! Thanks one and all – as ever, know I appreciate every single one of you and please feel free to get in touch. This goes for my rusted-on followers as well – I promise I don’t bite!
Interesting observations
So I didn’t read as many books this month – instead, I thought about what books I wanted to read! That counts, right?  On a more serious note, I do want to read more that I’m under near-lockdown conditions.
On the strength of her reading of The Hunger Games trilogy, Tatiana Maslany needs to do more audiobooks. As a side note, I’ve started watching Orphan Black and it’s creepily disturbing, but so good! Thank you, Ms. Maslany!
Audiobooks seem to be a theme for me this month – I also started rereading Amanda Foody’s Ace of Shades, read by Saskia Maarleveld. I’ve downloaded Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid to listen to at some point, as it features a stellar voice cast and is – from what I’ve heard – the best way to appreciate this book.
In a review I wrote a couple of months ago, I described myself as a convert to the cult of Alice Oseman. This month I started reading Radio Silence and I have to say I’m a bit disappointed – don’t get me wrong, it’s still very well-written but it doesn’t have the same knock-out punch that I was born for this had.
That’s a wrap for March! I hope you’re all keeping well both physically and mentally during these challenging times. On to April!

Reflections on May’s Reading Goals
I finished all the books I had been reading in April, except for Northanger Abbey, which I really wasn’t in the mood for.
I didn’t start On the Trail of Genghis Khan. At the rate I’m going, I probably won’t read that until July now – but we’ll see.
Didn’t start any of my e-books. Oops.
I read Scythe, and as I write, I just finished the sequel, Thunderhead, the ending of which was mind-boggling. I’m not counting it as part of my books read in May since we’re already in June. Didn’t start The Toll, unfortunately – but I’m confident I’ll be finished with that one within a few days or so.
As far as books on my backlist go, I finished Cairo and Red, White & Royal Blue.
I didn’t manage to get to Saga Land this month, but hopefully I’ll get to it sometime in June.
No more moodboards yet, but my participation on Booklr has been much better (see above) so I can live with that for now.
Started my new library hold, As far as the stars – but alas, I wasn’t really enjoying it, so I DNF’d it. Life’s too short for books you don’t like.
New followers
52!!!!!! Thank you to all and I hope you are enjoying my blog.
Interesting observations
I’ve really been enjoying the Arc of a Scythe trilogy, starting with my reread of the first book, Scythe. I got done with the 2nd book, Thunderhead, yesterday, and I can’t wait to see how Shusterman gets his characters out of that massive cliffhanger.
My TBR has been slow going. I just seem to keep putting off books and getting hold of new ones which pushes the old ones even further down the list. I DO want to read the books on my TBR, but the thing is there are so many good-looking OTHER books out there! Has anyone got the answer to this conundrum?
I’m starting to get back into my reading groove this month after the lacklustre April I had - both in terms of Booklr participation and actual reading. I think I’m finally getting used to filling all the free time I have thanks to COVID-19, so it doesn’t seem so much of a chore now.
I really need to learn to put down books I’m not enjoying earlier. I justify reading these books in the hope that book will improve, but it doesn’t always do that. I’ve been really wrapped up in the Arc of a Scythe series, which, as good as it’s been, doesn’t always leave much time for other books.
You may have noticed (ha!) that I’m still reading The Priory of the Orange Tree. I think this is one that I’ll keep returning to while I read other, shorter books in the meantime. I think it’s the kind of book that rewards a slow read, especially as the world building is so rich. Still have no end date in sight, but I don’t feel the need to rush with this one.
One big thing that I forgot to mention in my reading goals for April was The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (Hunger Games #0) by Suzanne Collins. I read it well into the night and into the early morning and I have to say, it kind of left me shellshocked. I’m still trying to process it all, and I can say there’s a reread on the horizon so I can absorb more.
Reading (and reading-related) Goals for June
Continue reading The Priory of Orange Tree at my own pace. No pressure to finish this month (or possibly the next) …
Start the books I recently borrowed from the library – Harley in the Sky by Akemi Dawn Bowman, Green Valentine by Lili Wilkinson (Aussie author!) and Onyx & Ivory (Rime Chronicles #1) by Mindee Arnett.
Start at least one of the ebooks on my tablet.
Read The Toll (Arc of a Scythe #3) by Neal Shusterman. Can’t wait to see how he wraps this series up.
MAYBE reread The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes? Not sure yet, TBH. @lovelytothebone wants to do a group chapter-by-chapter reread at some point so I’ll probably wait for that.
More Booklr interaction, of course. That’s a given.
My GoodReads count for 2020 so far shows I’m two books behind schedule in my goal to reach 70 books read. I want to bring that up to date.
Maybe do another moodboard? Only if I’m in the mood (pun fully intended, he he) ….
Read at least one book by an author of colour
Start Saga Land by Richard Fidler & Kári Gíslason
I think that will do for the time being. See you all in July for the next monthly wrap-up!
