You'd think that for as long as I've loved stuff like VoH, Slayers, just lots of magic/witchcraft/fantasy in general I'd have done more work with magic effects in them before now.
I'm glad people have told me they like the way I paint magic because I am flying by the seat of my britches trying to learn how to do it flasdkfkj

I have just hit a place in my art (particularly my painting) where I’m noticing a lot of areas I can improve. This is wonderful because it means I am actively learning and identifying solutions to art problems, but I cannot help looking at the art I’ve made in the past and feeling a little like

I have made more psyduck fanart than any other kind of fanwork and it is giving me (a staunch Pokémon hater) an identity crisis because he's really very well designed and cute and fun to paint.

snapshots of a ghost quartet piece im working on
id: three traditional drawings. the first shows a piano, a star, two music notes, a bloody finger, a door, an open book, two people dancing, a television, and a mostly drunk bottle of wine. the second drawing shows Rose Red from Ghost Quartet. she has no facial features except a nose. there is a star over her chest and a ghost behind her. the third drawing shows a mason jar with honey in it, a letter, an envelope, a crow, a basket of salt, a telescope, the solar system, a bear, a glass of straight whiskey upside down, a violin made out of a breastbone, game stats, a camera, a blurry photo, three exclamation points, a sword, a sign that reads "the end", a shelf with cameras on it, a cracked phone, a subway, subway rails, and someones hand pushing something. end id.

🎶Are they comfortable with giving gifts or is it awkward for them? How do they react? (Dym)
Oh he is, terribly, terribly awkward, giving and receiving. He couldn't tell you what sorts of things make for good gifts, nor would he really know what to ask for.
He means well, and he sure as hell would try his goddamned hardest if he decided it was something he really wanted to do, but he'd struggle to decide on what to give even people he knew very well. But at least he's willing to ask around and figure out something he thinks is worth giving. Eventually I think he'd start to catch on and begin to figure out what he'd supposed to do, he's just lacking a lot of social context most people have to lean on.
There's a good chance he'd never be super comfortable receiving gifts, if it isn't wariness that someone he doesn't know well is trying to bribe him into something, it's guilt for taking the time or things of someone he does know or like. He might gain some social grace over time, or become comfortable enough with someone that those feeling fade some for them specifically, but it'll take a while.
