Why You Should Reblog Creative Work
Here’s the thing about tumblr and reblogs: A lot of tumblr olds will tell you how reblogging is the only way for a post—especially when it comes to creative work such as art, gifs, fics etc.—to be seen by other people in the first place, as tumblr doesn’t have an algorithm.
This is not quite true anymore. Tumblr does have an algorithm and it’s a pretty well working one, too. I actually do use the ‘For You’ page every now and then and it always shows me a few posts that absolutely are of my interest. Hell, it even shows me untagged posts, it even shows added commentary in reblogs that are relevant to my interest.
So, saying “a like does nothing on tumblr” isn’t true anymore. As I’ve already seen, you don’t even necessarily need to tag your posts anymore (text posts at least—I don’t believe it’d work with images) to reach your audience.
But, and there is a But, capital letters and all that jazz, tumblr is first and foremost a blogging website. You all have blogs, and when you post here you blog. The reblogging function is a deeply ingrained, essential feature of this site, and when bloggers stop using it, creators will stop creating. A lot of them have already stopped—it’s one of the reasons why I for example, as well as a lot of other writers I know, don’t post fics on here anymore and merely share a quick link to AO3.
This is a blogging website and people are killing it by not using it the way it’s supposed to be used. Yes, you can, technically still reach your audience even if you’re not being reblogged at all, but apart from the fact that a lot of tumblr olds don’t even look at the ‘For You’ page, nothing will spread creative work as fast as reblog chains will. Nothing will make sure your work will be seen at all, except when people reblog it.
Not to mention that the ‘For You’ page (or the ‘Based on Your Likes’ function which is mostly garbage unlike the ‘For You’ page tbh) will never be able to show you older work that could interest you too, and bring the creator joy by getting attention on something that’s already years old again. Only sharing the work and spreading the joy will work.
Also, because likes were pretty useless until recently, most tumblr users don’t see likes as in “hey, I liked this!” but more in a “I saw this” manner. Hell, that’s how I use the like button. Sure, I leave a like on things I do like (I wouldn’t leave it on a post I dislike, that makes no sense), but the like is mostly meant for me to remember I saw this already. To show appreciation I reblog/queue the post. Because that’s what reblogging to most of us means. It means “hey, I like this and I appreciate it and I want to share it so others see this amazing thing too!”
If you leave only a like and no reblog follows it eventually, to most of us it means “yeah, I liked this but not enough to have it on my own blog and share it with others”—and that’s discouraging as fuck. It’s like saying that the work we created isn’t good enough.
Obviously, you don’t have to reblog every art/gifs/fics/etc. you see if they don’t even interest you. But naturally, you wouldn’t leave a like on something you don’t like either, would you?
There’s, of course, also always this small portion of Big Artists who claim that reblogs aren’t that important and likes are just as appreciated, but those are usually the kind of artists who reach hundreds of reblogs, get lot of commentary on the work, kind asks and so on and so forth. Maybe once people stop interacting with their work they would change their tune, but as long as they don’t struggle with receiving appreciation for the creative work that took them hours and was created with passion and love, their opinion doesn’t really matter, as they’re in a huge minority with that view anyway.
(I am talking about creative work specifically here because honestly, no one gives a fuck if you reblog shitposts or not, as they don’t take even remotely the same amount of time as a single art piece does for example, and aren’t made with the same passion either. Ironically though, shitposts are the kind of posts that get the most reblogs anyway.)
At the end of the day, it’s really not that hard to reblog other people’s work. You don’t have to leave a comment in the tags/reblog either, as not everyone has the time and spoons to do so—I do promise you though that if you leave kind commentary underneath a creative work, you will make OP’s day—there’s even a quick reblog resp. a quick queue option on mobile and desktop, which takes you just as long to click as the like button. Literally just a second.
You can also always make (a) sideblog(s) for anything you don’t want to mix with the other things you post/reblog.
And it doesn’t matter if you have no followers or not many who would see the things you reblog either. OP doesn’t know that—all they do know is that someone appreciates the creative work they posted. And a reblog even with no commentary will always be more meaningful than a like.
Maybe it’s not important anymore on tumblr to get reblogs to reach an audience, but the reblogs are still necessary to keep the community alive. And by discarding the reblog function we’re effectively killing that community until there won’t be any creative work anymore and well… probably only memes and shitposts on here.
So instead of getting all prissily and calling creators “entitled” for asking for reblogs, as if it is such a hardship to click the button, you should maybe ask yourself why you’re so reluctant to reblog work that took hours to create in the first place, hm?

Tbh I only learned who Lily was 2 months when my Youtube algorithm showed me a video about Stockholm. While I found it pretty disturbing, I believe in approaching these kind of accusations w/ a healthy dose of skepticism (esp if the person's from a marginalized group) until I have enough info.
So fact-checking lead to a deep dive of all the shit she's done & the blogs documenting it. And I wanted to say, one of the most damning pieces of evidence that convinced me are the reblogs on the-last-alicorn's page discussing Stockholm that very clearly link back to Lily's blog. I don't think there's any way of faking that? And it should be pretty obvious the reason those posts are gone when you click on her blog is that she deleted them.
I'm... actually shocked she never deleted/remade her entire blog & thought just removing the posts would be enough. But it must've worked for her to still have fans defending & believing her excuses. I'd really like to know how anyone can explain why those posts link directly back to Lily's blog if she didn't write them originally? I don't think I've seen that addressed & guess I'm surprised it's not brought up more.
Then again, she somehow convinced her fans that there's an absurdly high-effort smear campaign against her involving heaps of edited screenshots & even an entire fake fanfic... All just to defame a mediocre Youtuber over cartoon opinions? Somehow these "haters" even found a way to manipulate the Internet Archive of all things I guess (still can't get over that one). So I won't be surprised if it turns out she's already made something up to explain away those reblogs too.
Anyways just saying- if anyone still doubts Lily wrote Stockholm, I'd strongly urge them to look at @the-last-alicorn's blog. When you realize how much she's lying about this one thing, it's pretty fking hard to give her the benefit of the doubt about anything else she denies too. I really hope everyone who's been abused by this woman can receive some justice.
I'm glad you brought up the internet archive, since that's the one that's been the most frustrating. I assume some of Lily's defenders don't know how the site works.
You CAN'T fake an internet archive snapshot. It literally preserves a web page exactly as it is on whatever date it was preserved. It's not "a screenshot". It's a save state.

Are You Frustrated With Your SEO Results & Marketing?
Tumblr media
On the subject of the search, Google has a near-monopoly. Comshare, an Internet measuring company, and Rand Fishkin, a notable SEO specialist and founder of Moz, a Seattle-based inbound marketing and SEO firm, estimate that it controls 65-85% of the industry. SEO company in Bangalore that performs good job can make a big difference in a company's success, particularly for start-ups. Today, every company must have a strong internet presence, a distinct identity, and a strong brand. Regrettably, some business owners are dissatisfied with their selected SEO firm. There are several key aspects to consider while selecting the correct team to run your SEO strategy.
You have an issue if you don't rank well on Google. Today, around 3.1 billion individuals, or 40% of the world's population, have access to the Internet. Every day, Google handles over 3.5 billion search inquiries. Without an Internet and Google presence, it's quite improbable that the firm will be taken seriously or generate enough cash in this day and age.
Frustrated By SEO
"I'm so frustrated by SEO!" I heard it again this week.
A marketing manager who was looking for a new SEO firm remarked. He had spent a lot of money on two different enterprises in the previous few years with no discernible outcomes. He was under pressure from senior management and wanted to make sure that the counsel he was receiving would result in demonstrable outcomes.
Words like "mystery," "black box," "dark magic," and even "scam" and "rip-off" were murmured.
The truth is that SEO is neither a mystery nor a black art. However, the idea that SEO is a dark box that makes it difficult for SEOs to match expectations with their clients has some merit. Let's start with why we (SEOs) concentrate on Google, how it works, and why anticipating results can be such a difficult and frustrating endeavor.
Focus on Google
If you own a small business, the first thing you should know is that Google is the only search engine you should be concerned with.
Although there are hundreds of search engines throughout the world, each with its system of determining who ranks where in search results, Google has a near-monopoly, so you should focus your limited time and resources there.
Then you'll need to know how Google operates at a high level.
How Google Ranks Content
To determine who ranks first, Google employs an artificial ranking system. It does not publish its ranking algorithm and has no intentions to do so in the future. In September 2010, Google's CEO (Eric Schmidt) stated flatly that "it's a business secret" that he has no plans to reveal.
To be fair, Google does provide a high-level description of how search works via a Youtube video.
While informative, the movie is not a diagnostic tool and does not reveal why you aren't ranking. It is devoid of information about how any of these items are related or measured and weighed. There is also no information on how to do anything.
Even Google engineers are baffled as to how Google uses all of these elements to conclude. This is because machine learning algorithms aren't transparent about which signals they use. Even the programmers who originally coded the AI are unable to peek inside the black box. So, how does SEO agency in Bangalore figure out how the algorithm works exactly?
How Do SEOs Interpret The Algorithm?
Some SEOs devote their entire careers to studying Google's rules, publications, and patent filings. They track Google's algorithm changes over time, execute experiments, conduct correlation studies, and monitor trends. They polled several of the world's top search marketers for their thoughts. All of this research is shared, and we make conclusions, recommend, and publish best practices based on our findings.
To summarise, SEOs have no precise or verifiable understanding of how Google ranks web pages. While not completely opaque, the details of what happens behind the scenes are reliant on jointly assembled best guesses based on third-party research, experimentation, and opinion.
Although there isn't always agreement and perspectives differ, most experts agree that following best practices can help you achieve meaningful, measurable outcomes while also avoiding Google penalties and bans.
Google's Ranking Algorithm is Constantly Changing
The Google ranking system isn't set in stone, either. It is always changing, thus you should expect your ranks to fluctuate as well.
Google claims to update its ranking algorithm between 350 and 550 times per year. Google's algorithm is estimated to change 500-600 times every year, according to Moz, a well-respected SEO toolmaker, and thought-leader. It maintains track of all the changes (that we are aware of) since the year 2000.
Even with all of the study, consensus, and lack of consensus that the SEO community conducts around the ranking algorithm, some of the findings reached may become obsolete rapidly.
There is a lot of competition.
Small business owners have found it increasingly difficult to compete in recent years due to increased competition. It used to be relatively simple. You'd simply add some keywords to your website and call it a day.
The issue was that because it was so simple, everyone took advantage of it, and the quality of search results began to reflect this. When Google realized this, it began to expand the number and types of variables it used when ranking websites and web pages. Nowadays, there are few, if any, opportunities to game the system. You might be able to rank well with little work if you're in a tiny, non-competitive area. Otherwise, it'll be an expensive, a long process, and a creative challenge.
There is one more exception to this rule. It is possible to pay to be at the top.
Google's Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising platform, Adwords, has traditionally been the quickest road to the top. In less than a day, you may have your website at the top of sponsored search results thanks to a sophisticated bidding and auctioning procedure. The problem is that it's a really difficult procedure, and unless you're knowledgeable and diligent, you could end up spending a lot of money on terrible outcomes.
Small business entrepreneurs are thus at a disadvantage. They can't afford to devote the time necessary to master PPC. They can't usually afford to engage or contract for such services, either. Many small business owners dabble to make a profit, but this typically leads to bad outcomes and even more dissatisfaction.
Google Doesn’t Share Everything
Google has never publicly disclosed its ranking algorithm, but it used to provide a lot more data to business owners - data that helped us better understand how prospects and consumers looked for our products and services. Google has been tapering – no, ratcheting – back on the quantity of data it shares in recent years as well.
Google Planner is Google's keyword research tool
One of the keys to SEO success is determining how people search for you on the Internet and then adding that language into your website so you can rank.
Given Google's near-monopoly on search, it's only natural that you'd go to Google to discover out what people are searching for when they're looking for your products and/or services. And it was to the Google Keyword Planner tool that the vast majority of keyword researchers used to go.
The problem is that Google has been reducing the volume and specificity of data it shares in recent years. For example, Google lies through omission. Google decides to suppress part of its keyword information until you actively ask for it, as Moz's Rand Fishkin revealed in February 2012. Then, in August 2016, Google decided to no longer provide particular search volumes for keyword terms, instead of providing ranges. When you used to be able to see that 720 individuals searched for "a certain keyword phrase" every month, Google now reports something like 100-1,000 searches per month for that phrase and all semantic equivalents.
That means the tool is no longer usable unless you pay for an Adwords account or subscribe to one of the numerous 3rd-party keyword research programs that have popped up on the market, many of which are more expensive than a small business owner would prefer.
Google Analytics allows you to track your website's performance
There's also Google Analytics to consider. Google declared in September 2013 that information about unpaid (non-PPC) terms would no longer be shared in their Google Analytics software, the most widely used analytics tool on the Internet.
This data was crucial in determining how people found and searched for your products and services on the Internet. Small business owners are at a major disadvantage because non-PPC keyword data is no longer available. Big business owners don't have access to this information either, but they do have bigger pockets, which allow you to play the PPC game and discover what works and what doesn't through trial and error.
You still have access to keyword data if you're a PPC advertiser. If you aren't, you'll only see a small portion of the terms people use to discover your website, and the vast majority of them will be branded.
Small business owners have every right to be annoyed by SEO.
For the inner workings of Google's ranking algorithm, there is no one, fact-based, and provable explanation. We do have information based on research, experimentation, consensus, and personal opinion. Google has not validated it.
In terms of search, Google enjoys a near-monopoly. The rules it utilizes to determine who ranks first are "trade secrets" that are continuously changing.
Competition is much tougher now than it was a few years ago, and it's only going to get tougher in the future.
Big brands and paid ads appear to be favored by Google (and the market). Because Google chooses to withhold keyword information, small company owners frequently lack access to detailed keyword information - the phrases consumers use to search for your products and/or services.
Summary
You know as a business owner that the evidence is in the pudding. People can chat all day long, but are they truly generating new leads? Are your online visitors turning into customers?
Because SEO is such a lengthy process, you must be confident that it will be profitable. This is when case studies come in handy. We're pleased with the outcomes we've gotten for our clients, and we can't wait to show you what's possible.
The best aspect is that the entire process is handled by our in-house team. You simply concentrate on doing what you do best, which is serving consumers and growing your company. We'll create and implement an SEO strategy that generates new leads and converts them into sales.
The inner workings of Google's ranking algorithm have no single, fact-based, and provable explanation. We have knowledge based on a study, experimentation, and personal opinion. Google has not validated it, and opinions differ.
In terms of search, Google enjoys a near-monopoly. Its rules for determining who ranks first are "trade secrets" that are continually changing.
Competition is much tougher now than it was a few years ago, and it will only get tougher in the future.
Big companies and paid advertising appear to be favored by Google (and the market). Because Google decides to withhold comprehensive keyword information — the phrases people use to search for your products and/or services – small business owners typically don't have access to it.
Small business owners, therefore, have every right to be upset by SEO. SEO businesses that execute their job well can make a big difference in a company's success, especially for startups.

34 Five minute hacks ideas | hacks, 5 minute crafts, how to cook pasta
Tumblr media
💾 ►►► DOWNLOAD FILE 🔥🔥🔥 YouTube is full of baking hack videos, from 5-minute crafts to So Yummy and others. These videos seem to always go viral, and this seems to be simply because they hit all the sweet spot of YouTubes search algorithm. What YouTube cant see, is that a lot of these are actually very dangerous or should at least come with some warnings. Here are the top 5 YouTube dangerous food hacks. Basically these channels are content farms, a content farm is like a video factory. They produce endless amounts of video content for their you tube channel which is exactly what the YouTube algorithm wants. Videos that people just binge watch. A lot of Crafts channels have this same format and editing style. But what happens when the recipe is actually dangerous and can hurt or even worse kill you? I am embedding the videos in this post but please be aware that these are dangerous and can cause serious harm and bodily injury so DO NOT try these at home. So Yummy released a video titled How to make caramel and chocolate desserts which features various Caramel hacks. One of them is the video of a hand mixer that has hot caramel poured over it while spinning. Never a great idea! Her expression really says it all, watch the full video here:. Yes, somehow 5-Minute Crafts thought its a great Idea to teach kids how to bleach strawberries white. But I am sure they added a warning that these are not edible afterwards??? The video has since been removed from the compilation but had already gathered more than 1. Below is a screenshot of the video prior to its removal. Yes, this is no joke. Someone at 5 Minute crafts actually thought it would be a great idea to use Activated Charcoal in an Ice Cream recipe. Activated Charcoal side effects include diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, and blockage of the digestive tract. This Ice Cream will be a scoop to remember! Also, dry ice can injure you and burn off your skin or even fingers. If someone suggested you wrap your face with cling film three times to avoid Onion tears you would think they are pulling your leg. But what if you told that to a 6 or 7 year old child? Believe it or not but Crafty Panda suggests that you wrap your face with cling film to avoid Onion tears. A video that has almost 5 million views and is mostly made by younger kids or teens shows how you can wrap your face with cling film to prevent crying when cutting onions. No warning of the dangers involved with wrapping your face with an airtight material what so ever. I am in awe and shock every time I see this video and I am surprised it has not been taken off YouTube. In a year-old Zhe Zhe and year olf Xiao Yu tried a popcorn hack video they saw online. The video showed how two soda tins and some alcohol could make popcorn. This resulted in an explosion that killed the year-old and severely burned the year-old girl. YouTuber Ms Yeah received a lot of social justice as she had a video on her YouTube page that showed this process. This does not reverse the damage but she did take responsibility in some way. When you see a video hack that is potential dangerous the first thing you should do is report it to YouTube. Disliking and commenting on the video actually has a positive effect on the video ranking. I know you might be tempted to add a warning or dislike but by doing that you achieve the opposite, the YouTube algorithm will see interaction with the video and will only rank it higher in the search results. So the best thing you can do is Report and leave in this instance. Food Advertisements by. Other Recipes You May Enjoy. Why is it called the Granny Smith Apple? How to Increase Website Page Speed? [13 Best Practices]
We are the creatures of right here, right now and nobody likes to wait.
Everybody (including me) wants everything with a click of a button and done now!
Can you think of the last time when you actually waited for a website to load for more than 10 seconds?
I go straight to the close button within 7 seconds.
Google understands this completely.
They know that users want faster websites and that’s exactly why they have included web page speed as their user experience and ranking factors for websites.
Before we learn how to increase website page speed, let’s understand what is website page speed, and how it helps you increase the conversion.
What is website page speed?
Website page speed means how fast your web page loads when somebody tries to log on to your websites. In other words, page speed is the number of seconds that a webpage takes to load until the user sees it.
The loading time of your website or blog depends on various factors like server speed, page size, images size and more.
Why is page speed important for SEO?
Because people don’t really like waiting.
Also, web page loading speed or page speed on your website is an important ranking factor of Google search engine.
A fast loading website adds to the user experience and will result in higher ranking as well as conversion.
And by default, a slow running website can affect your SEO negatively.
Google aims at offering the best of user-experience to their users and thus will avoid ranking a website that takes more than 2-3 seconds to load.
For example, the below image shows Walmart’s improvement in conversions and revenue after increasing their website page speed.
At the end of their website page speed optimization, Walmart reported the following results:
For every one second of site speed improvement, they experienced up to a 2% increase in conversions.
For every 100 ms of improvement, they grew incremental revenue by up to 1%.
What is the ideal page speed?
The ideal website pagespeed is less than 3 seconds for both desktop and mobile websites. It’s not the official number used by Google algorithms during the ranking process. But studies say that it should be ideally 3 seconds or less.
If a website is very slow, it can impact negatively on its rankings.
You can watch the following video from Google for better understanding.
youtube
How website page speed helps you boost your website conversion?
A slow loading speed of website will frustrate the visitor who will bounce back from your site and look for better options. This means you get fewer visitors and even lesser conversion.
As website page speed or the loading speed of website is Google’s ranking factor, your website is less likely to receive a higher page ranking if it loads slowly.
How to find website page load time?
The Pagespeed Insights tool offered by Google is a great way to optimize your website.
Even though Google officially hasn’t announced that this is how they measure the page speed, it does offer a good explanation on how you can increase website speed.
Another tool I recommend is webpagetest.org. I personally use these 2 tools when I optimize my blog site or client websites.
Both of these tools help me optimize the website page speed.
Google Pagespeed Insights
Go to Pagespeed Insights > Enter web page URL and click Analyze.
Once the test begins, you will see reports on different parameters including First contentful paint, first meaningful paint, speed index and more.
If these words seem too technical, don’t worry, you don’t need to understand all of it. But it’s always nice to know things.
Just focus on pagespeed insights. Out of 100 if your score is on the lower end, you need to work harder to reduce the page loading speed of your website.
In above image, as you can see my website home page score 95 which is ideal website page speed score for any website.
If you score more than 90, your website page speed is good. However, you can try to increase web page speed of website to 100. But if you can’t reach there, that’s completely fine.
Note: don’t worry if you find things too technical to understand. You need to work only on a few aspects that are easy to understand and will help you improve your website loading speed.
Here are 13 best practices to increase page speed of website
Reduce HTTP request
Optimize Image
Minify and combine files (HTML,CSS, JS)
Improve server response time
Remove render-blocking JavaScript
Update hosting plan for high performance
Use Browser Caching
Use Content Delivery Network (CDN)
Enable Gzip compression
Use Lazy loading for images
Remove unnecessary plugins (WordPress)
Resolve 404 errors
Implement AMP
Reduce HTTP requests
HTTP requests are nothing but files that links on the web page like images, stylesheet, and javascript.
When a page loads, all these resources are downloaded by sending requests to the server. More requests we send to the server, more the time it takes to load the web page.
Take a look at your page and try to reduce the number of linked resources on your web page. This will lead to fewer HTTP requests and a faster website.
You can find out the number of requests and list of requests on webpagetest.org. You can identify requests that can be removed or merged.
Optimize images
Images on your website and blogs are crucial for creating a visual impact on your visitors. However, images are to be used wisely on the web page as they affect your page speed.
You can reduce the image size and still maintain the quality of images by using tools like tinypng.com.
Don’t go with the name, it reduces the size of both jpg and png image types.
You can even use other tactics like using smaller images in a single image which is called the CSS Sprite technique.
And lastly, use icon fonts so you don’t have to use images for icons. It again depends on your website design so use it as per your need.
Minify HTML,CSS and JS files
Reducing and combining file size of HTML, CSS, and JS will help you improve your website and blog speed.
Suppose, you have 3 CSS or JS files, you can simply combine the code and add one file into your HTML. That will reduce the number of HTTP requests to the server.
You can even reduce the file size by minimizing the code. You can use W3 Total Cache to optimize your code.
You can go to “Minify” settings and enable minify option for CSS, JS and HTML to minify.
Here is the example of CSS code which shows how minify looks like. If you are using static HTML website, you can do it manually or use any online tools to minify the code.
Before minifying the code
body{     font-size:14px;    color:#000; } h1{     font-size:32px; }
After minifying the code
body{font-size:14px; color:#000;} h1{ font-size:32px;}
Improve server response time
Server Response Time is the amount of time between when a website makes a request such as clicking on a link and the hosting server responds to that request.
Total traffic you receive on your website, the resources you use and the hosting provider impacts your Server Response Time.
You can improve your server response time by improving the slow routing, lack of adequate memory, and slow database queries. And, optimizing your time to first byte will help you improve your server response time.
The ideal server response time is under 200ms.
Remove render-blocking JavaScript
To render your website page in a browser, the browser builds a DOM tree by parsing HTML. If your browser encounters a script during this process, it has to stop and execute the script before it can continue.
So, you must avoid adding JavaScript files on top of your code. This small and simple thing can help you improve your website speed.
If you find this, too technical, you can take help from your website developer.
Update hosting plan for high performance
Most website creators choose to opt for a cost-effective way of using a shared server. The space on a shared server is enough for most of them, at least in the initial stage.
However, with time, you should upgrade your plan to a higher server in order to increase website speed.
Do remember that a high-end hosting service will be expensive, so opt for it only when necessary for your business.
On my website, I am using WPX hosting which is specially built for WordPress and that’s how I increase loading speed of website.
Use Browser Caching
As the name suggests, it helps you store your webpage resources on your local hard drive or temporary storage through the browser.
This way whenever a user loads the website for the first time, it stores the data into the browser’s temporary storage. And when the user surfs the website and goes to other pages, they will experience better site speed.
If you are using WordPress, you can use W3 Total Cache plugin. Just enable the necessary options in the “Browser Cache” setting and the plugin will do all the work for you.
Use Content Delivery Network (CDN)
Content Delivery Network(CDN) is a great way to speed up the website. CDN is where your resources like HTML, CSS, JS, Images will be stored in multiple servers in different regions like Asia, US and more.
So, if a visitor from the US is loading your website, resources are pulled from the nearest server. This way the website loads faster than loading from Asia’s server.
You can use the free CDN service like Cloudflare to help you speed up your website. Opt for Free plan to start with and if required, you can upgrade to a paid plan.
Enable Gzip compression
The Gzip is another file type. You can enable Gzip compression to compress the file delivery.
If you have Gzip enabled, it locates your file and temporarily compresses the file delivery.
It works very well with HTML and CSS file as they have more whitespace in them
Most of the servers support Gzip compression so it compresses the file before downloading. As a result, less bytes are downloaded and eventually the page loads faster.
If you are running a WordPress blog or website, you can use W3 Total Cache plugin which will help you with Gzip compression.
If you have static HTML or PHP site, you can do it via .htaccess file. You can find the compression code on HTML5 Boilerplate.
Use Lazy Loading for images
Lazy load enables loading of images as and when the image appears on the screen of the user.
Assume, you have 10 images on the web page or your blog post. When a user visits your page, on first fold there might be only 1 image. So you have to load only one image at the time of web page loading.
Rest of the images will load as the user scrolls down and reaches that particular section with other images.
The simple Lazy Load plugin is an effective tool for lazy loading of images on your blog/ web page. It will significantly reduce your web page loading time as you are loading only 1 image at a time and other images are not loaded yet.
Remove unnecessary plugins (WordPress)
Plugins though are very useful, can sometimes add stress to the website and cause it to load slowly without you realizing it.
You can test the plugin effects by following this technique.
Disable one plugin and measure the site speed.
Note it down.
Do the same for all other plugins and find out which plugins are affecting loading time the most.
It’s a little time consuming but one of the surest way to single out the plugin affecting the speed.
You can then find an alternate plugin for that functionality or try the premium plan for that plugin. Most paid plugins are very well optimized for site speed.
Resolve 404 Errors
It often happens that a file or an image is removed from the server but the link to that file is still available on the web page.
In such cases, whenever the web page is loaded it results in a 404 error.
And when the file is not available on the server, it takes more time to load that file as the system keeps trying to locate the file.
You can easily identify these link via the Chrome Developer Tool.
Open the website in a Chrome browser > Press F12 or Right Click and select Inspect Element > Go to Network tab and Reload the page.
You will see the names of the files with a status column.
If it’s 404 error and in red color, take the recommended action and remove the link of that file and upload that file on the server.
Implement AMP
Accelerated Mobile Pages(AMP) is an open-source framework by Google which helps building a website that loads quickly and easily on mobile devices.
It’s an optimized framework specifically designed to give better user experience which helps you build web pages that load at warp speed resulting in enhanced User Experience.
If you are using WordPress, you will also find an AMP plugin. It’s pretty straightforward and doesn’t require a lot of input from your end. Simply install and make necessary changes as advised.
Conclusion
Achieving the ideal speed is not that easy.
You will face hurdles and difficulties on the way.
However, start implementing these 11 points to increase loading speed of website and I am sure you will see the improvements in your SEO results.
You don’t need to implement all of them at once. Take one step at a time and try to increase website page speed.
If you are using WordPress, simply use W3 Total Cache plugin to improve website page speed.
You can check your speed on Google Page Speed Insight or webpagetest.org.
Both the utilities will guide you on the errors and we have already discussed how to fix them.
Some of these points might seem small and unimportant but they impact your web page speed a lot.
So try to work around them and test the results.
Once you achieve this, I am sure you will notice a positive impact not only on web page speed but also on SEO and the conversions on your website. However, it will take time to reflect on it as SEO is a long-term game.
In case, you are not in a position or are too busy running your business, you can always request a web designer or developer to help you with the web page speed improvements.

A Review Of backlinks reddit
Average time for the freelancer to initially reply about the workstream after buy or Call on this Offer. You don't need to a coder to comprehend location a dofollow backlink (or perhaps a nofollow url). Every single backlink is by default a dofollow backlink. In contrast, Here's what a nofollow backlink seems like: Google appreciates how straightforward it's for getting dofollow backlink from these types of sources. For that reason, the crawlers place very little worth around the backlink received from this sort of directories. Should reddit dofollow backlinks be trying to get to generate important backlinks by way of Reddit that will help increase your Search engine marketing rankings, you’ll want in order that your publish articles is engaging and that all of the articles at your url’s spot is the best that it can be. Secondly, although Google say which they don’t get any account of nofollow backlinks in their ranking algorithm, they don’t often inform us every thing! Wow. Thanks for paying out a lot time on an awesome reply! I have normally felt slightly about the fence so far as attaching my Web page to other peoples blogs. But all in all, not a bad way to convey hi! On top of that, note that every subreddit has its have regulations and regulations for submitting. Ensure you browse Those people meticulously before you decide to put up or do anything at all. Go in the contents within your target subreddit. Get notes of what buyers are liking and upvoting and the reaction Each and every of these contents. Appears like you're applying new Reddit on an aged browser. The site may not work adequately if you do not update your browser ! If you do not update your browser, we advise you take a look at previous reddit . It's a no-stick to connection so it is not what is actually advertised sadly. :( The article was ok for the money so even now rating it Okay. Set in the trouble. Speedily generating an account, becoming a member of a number of subreddits, and spamming precisely the same hyperlink in each individual community will cause downvotes as well as bans from the positioning. If you have an interest in getting backlinks, ensure that you interact While using the Group first. Likewise, not every single url carries the same weight. The more authoritative another Web site is, the more backlink juice the url carries. On the other hand, There's also other things that determine website link fairness. Some of them are described down below. Appears like you're making use of new Reddit on an aged browser. The site might not operate properly if you don't update your browser ! If you do not update your browser, we propose you go to old reddit . Now, you happen to be absolutely free to put in writing or share just about anything on Reddit posts, which consists of hyperlinks to your very own articles. Reddit originally marks Every single post as no-adhere to by default. Why so? For the reason that This could disincentivize compensated 3rd parties and website owners to spam their inbound links on Reddit. My Spidey sense tells me this connection is well worth the square root of jack shit, but I'm wondering if everyone has an opposing viewpoint? Does Google know or care what a subreddit's issue is? Does it treatment how well-liked a subreddit is? Will it even distinguish in between subs?

What Does What Is SEO Mean?
Having the best key phrases on your site is the principle way Google figures out what the positioning is about. Employing instruments like Ubersuggest will help you find the proper key phrases which might be suitable to the matter. Alternatively, You should use a rank monitoring tool like Ahrefs Rank Tracker to track key phrases for a particular spotright all the way down to the zip code. This is particularly useful for regional Website positioning. Your material really should be comprehensive, but it also requires to answer the problem, What now? Will the reader have almost everything they require if they complete your article? Your websites HTML is a crucial bit of the Search engine optimization promoting puzzle. Without having right tags, headers, and descriptions, Google should have a tough time figuring out what your material is about and why it should rank higher as opposed to Competitiveness. When persons study that HTML is a component of SEO, they start to get scared, but theres nothing to worry about. If an individual is ranking number one for your key phrase you want, go into your search term investigation tool, enter their URL, and find out what keyword phrases theyre applying Together with the search term hole. The objective of website link setting up is for Google to reward individuals that offer worth in exchange for just a link. You would like to produce a visitor article with a site with people today keen on your expertise. Talking of Google, This can be the search engine Many of us useno less than for Internet lookups. Thats as it has one of the most trustworthy algorithm by significantly. In that feeling, Search engine optimisation is more productive mainly because its a minimal-Expense, extended-time period approach that doesnt need a larger funds like PPC. Nevertheless, you may want to Incorporate each efforts to get more visibility and insights into your viewers, and also faster conversions. Search engine optimization marketing and social media marketing and advertising go hand-in-hand since the objective is to tell Google how wonderful you will be. If SEO services are in existence sharing your material and spreading the attain additional, what does that tell Google? Webopedia assets cover technology definitions, academic guides, and computer software critiques that happen to be accessible to all scientists despite technical track record. A superb Site architecture causes an excellent consumer expertise, which is crucial for What is SEO Website positioning marketing and advertising. It concentrates on such things as fast loading situations, a secure connection, plus a mobile-welcoming style. Very well, Google Canada will almost certainly have distinctive benefits than Google Brazil. Just about every state may have unique levels of problems. A multilingual web page not only exposes your info to more and more people in their indigenous language, however it could also help you rank a lot easier in other sites. Producing multilingual articles is without doubt one of the most straightforward swift wins Ive seen. Nevertheless, pulling it off isnt quick. The vast majority of World wide webs translation plugins arent Superb. Many will guarantee to routinely translate your information into Practically any language, although the final result isnt organic. Bad linking tactics: Heading out and getting a Fiverr package deal promising you 5,000 back links in 24 hrs is not the proper way to create hyperlinks. You need to get hyperlinks from appropriate articles and internet sites within your specialized niche that have their particular traffic. You may even see a a lot quicker elevate in targeted visitors and conversions with PPC simply because youll bid on keywords and phrases to receive a placement at the top of research. But if you are bidding on really competitive key phrases, you'll have to invest a lot of cash to obtain very first dibs on the best placements and acquire conversions.

A personal update + my next game
OK, time to do this. I’ve been meaning to do a big DAVID WEHLE™ update for a while now and explain why I haven’t released a new game yet, but you know how life gets in the way. Especially when life is a quarantine hellscape, you have three beautiful, amazing, exhausting kids to raise, a spouse’s job you support, a viral YouTube channel that turns your brain to mush, a thousand emails waiting in your inbox since your game is free on the Epic Games Store (with an impressive number of redemptions too! … meaning lots of emails and customer support issues), etc., etc. What also contributes to my lack of updates is because… I just don’t really like posting online. Fascinating correlation, I know!
Don’t worry, this isn’t going to be a venting/ranting blog post (well, maybe a bit), because my life is seriously AMAZING and INSANELY BLESSED and LUCKY. I can’t believe how many dreams keep coming true, so much so that I feel I don’t deserve it and I really pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes… but I did want to at least be honest, because I owe that to myself.
Wow, where do I even begin? Well, how about we start with the reason I’m even a full-time indie game dev now: The First Tree. This small hobby project I worked on at night morphed into this gargantuan beast (or fox) that took over my life the past 5 years. Which is great! I’m living the dream! And yet, I really didn’t expect it to do as well as it did. At its core, my game is a slow-paced, sad walking simulator (ahem, I prefer the term “exploration game,” but you know what I mean) that somehow seemed to launch at the right time to the right audience. It resonated deeply with some of you, and for that I’m eternally grateful. I still get emails almost daily how my game changed their lives in some formative way. I’m beyond honored.
However, with that spotlight came criticism and demands from the ever-present, insatiable internet. I would randomly be surfing the gamedev subreddit trying to decompress, and I would see a comment by some rando saying how much I didn’t deserve my success, and how it was all one huge lucky fluke. And I believed them!
And to add to it, some devs considered me an indie marketing “guru”, which I was uncomfortable with. I worked hard to market my game every week, and after my GDC talk, people assumed marketing was my passion; the reason I got up every morning. Just to clarify… NO, I don’t like marketing, and I hate being the center of attention. I don’t like asking people for money and wishlists. But I did what was necessary because I was passionate about telling stories, and I wanted to give my story a fighting chance to be seen on the crowded pages of Steam.
So now, you’re probably wondering “well then David, why did you make fancy YouTube videos showing off your success? Not very modest if you ask me.” This honestly could be a long blog post all on its own, because my experience of putting myself in the spotlight and becoming a “content creator” is… complicated. It was an unusual step for me, especially since I never even showed my face online (as a game developer) until my GDC talk.
First off, I always wanted to teach and start a YouTube channel. I love video editing, especially since I’ve been doing it longer than making games! It’s a huge passion of mine. And teaching people who didn’t know they could make and finish games was a huge motivator (and it’s been so rewarding already). But the second reason is, I was scared. I was self-employed, and I was riding the success of a “huge lucky fluke” that would probably not happen again. I wanted to make sure I could provide for my amazing family, and give them food and health insurance and security in these tumultuous times. I was turning my lifelong passions and hobbies into a business, and it wasn’t as simple of a mental transition as I thought.
So, I went all in on YouTube and the accompanying online course called Game Dev Unlocked. I spent years editing the scripts and videos, and polishing them to a shine. At first, no one watched my videos, no one was buying… and in the blink of an eye, the YouTube algorithm picked up my main autobiographical video (“How Making Indie Games Changed My Life”), and I started getting 5,000 subscribers a day. Right now, I’m at 150,000 subs, which is still hard for me to believe. I always had a dream of earning 100k subs on YouTube, so I was pretty happy with the whole thing. Sales were OK, but mostly people didn’t want to buy the course. Then the emails came in…
Something you should know about me: I am a textbook “people pleaser,” and if someone asks for my help, I take it very seriously. If someone is mad at me, even if I didn’t do anything wrong, it’s all I can think about, and it ruins my day. So, taking an onslaught of people begging for help and multiplying that by an impossible amount of people for my brain to truly comprehend thanks to the internet… and let’s just say it wasn’t a healthy mix.
I received thousands of emails from people who were begging me for some kind of reassurance that everything would be OK. That their dreams would come true too. And I wanted to help every single one of them. I went from a nobody working on a game for fun to becoming a spokesperson for the indie game dream. I couldn’t even get a shake from the Chick-Fil-A drive-thru without someone recognizing me and asking for game dev advice. And it didn’t stop there… I would get emails from suicidal kids asking for help, teenagers from Afghanistan asking me to get them out of their country, and on one occasion I received an email from a hopeful game developer in a war-torn country who had just experienced a bomb blowing up their neighboring village. His friends were dead, and he was hoping he could finish a game before he died too, and he needed my help. How do you say no to something like that? Didn’t I owe it to everyone because I was lucky with my hit game and I needed to “pay it forward”? (Something people constantly reminded me of)
And then to top it off, after you’ve given everything you’ve got to other people in need… you get hate mail in your inbox. You spend the whole day serving your children and strangers on the internet, then when the kids are finally asleep, you hit the bed to relax and take a look at your phone to decompress, and you randomly come across an angry gamer in your Twitter mentions telling you your game they got for free sucks, and that you took away a potentially great game from them and that your apology isn’t good enough.
Long story short, I went to a mental therapist for the first time in my life. I was broken trying to care for two toddlers and a new baby in a pandemic (which is very, very hard), taking care of my course students who gave me their hard-earned money and demanded results, and the countless people begging for help on the internet. I was this introverted, internet-lurker trying to take on the weight of the world. I was so tired and hurt that no one cared about me and my needs… only what I could do for them.
Quitting my day job and making this hobby my full-time job has stirred up… mixed emotions. This statement may disturb some of you, but I was definitely 100% happier when I had a full-time job and I was working on my game at night. I missed working with the amazing team at The VOID, working on Star Wars… back when the success of my game was this abstract thing I could only daydream about. Mostly, I was making my game for me with no outside expectations to pay the bills or satisfy the ever-demanding internet, and that brought me a lot of joy.
It’s not all doom and gloom though! I’m actually very happy now and in the best shape I’ve been since the pandemic started. I’ve had to confront my weaknesses and personality quirks, but I’m a better person for it (and I’m sure these issues would’ve come out eventually). I hired an awesome community manager for Game Dev Unlocked who is helping SO MUCH with the emails, I can’t even tell you the mental burden it alleviates. I even leased a co-working office to help separate work from my home, and that’s been a huge help too. I’ve decided to work with my old friends from The VOID on a cool, new VR experience. It will take me away from my projects a bit, but I’m ecstatic to work with a great team again (and not manage anything, whew).
These are all things I would’ve never guessed I needed, because I thought I knew myself pretty well… turns out I didn’t.
The reality is: running a business is HARD. Running it solo is even harder. You have to remember, I was burnt out on The First Tree well into the Steam release in 2017, but I kept working on it for 4 more years due to my fears of failing again and not earning enough money for my family.
So, I was wrestling with the age-old concept of commercialism and art. There was this dichotomy of doing whatever I wanted and being true to my vision (what most people assume the indie dev dream is like), and doing only what customers wanted to buy. This is something that has killed me with YouTube… in one specific instance, I was super excited to make the exact video I wanted to make. I loved every part of its creation, and I thought it had a message that would inspire everyone. I lovingly edited it over several weeks, posted it, and excitedly waited for the stats… and it was by far my worst performing video.
This is not a new problem. Even the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo was a commission forced upon him by the very violent Pope Julius II. My wife and I regularly talk about the fine balance between artistic integrity and commercialism, a problem she is very familiar with as an artist who constantly needs to balance what she wants to make with what the customer wants to hang up in their home.
For The First Tree, I was lucky. It was pretty much what I wanted to make (I had to compromise a lot of things of course), and it turned out millions of people wanted it too. Recently, I thought the safe business decision would be to do it all over again, so I started work on a spiritual successor to The First Tree (an idea that I may revisit one day since I do love the story idea). But that isn’t happening anytime soon. Trust me when I say I am now currently burnt out on animal exploration games.
So that realization left me with a question: what do I do next?
I’ve decided I need to make a game that I want to make, for me. It will be a bit different and I’m almost certain most fans of The First Tree will not love it… but it’s an idea that gets me super excited. It’s an idea that could help me fall in love with game development again.
A few more details: this game will be story-driven, first-person, and will use the Unreal Engine. That means development is gonna be slow going, because I have to learn a whole new tool. The “smart business” decision would be to make something quickly in Unity which I’m already familiar with… but I want to do this for me, and UE5 looks like a lot of fun. I’m also shooting for an early-ish release date so I avoid burn out and I keep the game short: I want to release it in Fall 2022, but knowing game development, it will probably take longer.
With the help of my therapist, I’ve also concluded that I’ve been too accessible on the internet and that my self-worth isn’t determined by the amount of people I try to help online. Of course, I love helping people and seeing them succeed, but I need to step back and focus on my family and myself. I will delete my social media apps on my phone (I will still post big updates occasionally) and stop responding to most emails, tweets, DMs, etc. It’s not that I’m ungrateful… in fact, if I don’t say thank you or at least acknowledge the incredibly nice people who share a sweet message about my game or want to tell me how I inspire them (still hard for me to believe, lol), I feel a ton of guilt… but I need to let that go. Please know I’m extremely grateful to all the fans who follow my work, so even if I don’t thank you directly, I truly mean it: thank you.
I will still post and stream occasionally on YouTube when I want to (and I still do live Q&A’s for my GDU students). The online course sales will help support my family as I work on a potentially risky game idea (and my new job will help alleviate the risk too). I’m gonna try one more marketing experiment and sell a mini-course soon (and add an Unreal section), and after that I’m done working on it. A gigantic thank you to the people who bought my course and are part of the amazing community, it has helped me and my family tremendously, and it’s inspiring seeing the games you make!
I’m a bit worried about the whole thing since this new game idea could flop, which could definitely affect my family. But a sappy, high-school yearbook quote is coming to mind…  I think it applies here: “A ship in harbor is safe—but that is not what ships are built for.”
Thanks for reading,
David

No but I feel as though artists are probably experiencing one of the most hostile years of posting art online that they’ve ever experienced for maybe forever. And I mean this for both amateur artists and professionals (with maybe a lil bit of bias since I also do The Art).
Tumblr’s nudity ban has crippled any piece that is either NSFW or uses nudity as artistic expression and it ultimately drove away both the artists themselves and a lot of their fans, which destroyed any remaining traction for the artists who managed to remain. Tumblr is no longer an artistic freedom-friendly site and it shows, which is a fucking shame bc they genuinely have one of the better tagging systems than other sites and I believe that most feedback on art there has been positive and friendly, which has now gone the way of the dinosaur much like Deviantart.
Twitter has problems with image compression but their biggest issue is toxic abuse, which I find to be the most damaging to artists out of all the other problems i’m listing here. Both the lure of anonymity and the mindset that ‘Speak Loud In Little Words To Make Point Means You Are Important And Right’ has fuelled the absolutely vile comments I have seen directed at artists on the site. Although it’s mainly aimed at fanartists and ship artists, I have noticed unwanted (even rude) criticism on immaculate, well-done art pieces, which is extremely belittling and insulting because the artist (although they may be open to criticism) if they haven’t asked for criticism then that means that they are not in the right mindset to receive any, and therefore it is not your place to throw disparaging comments at them.
But the biggest issue with abuse on Twitter is obviously aimed at fan-artists, especially those those that draw NSFW or “problematic” content. I could go into a whole spiel about how a drawing of a fictional character doesn’t affect reality but in short: If you find disturbing art of a non-existent character (or hey, even non-disturbing art, it’s just something you don’t like) then ignore it. Don’t go and fucking bully the artist you psychopath. If it is truly illegal then report the piece and then see if it gets taken down. Because 90% of the time it won’t be taken down because it doesn’t go against guidelines and you’re just trying to police the site like you’re the thought-police, monitoring other peoples art as if you have the god-given right to. And if you’re a minor stay the fuck out of 18+ accounts. Don’t comment, don’t follow, don’t even look. I am absolutely amazed by the mindset that some children have to waltz into a space not made for them and having the balls to insult the 18+ artist, who have specifically said “no minors”, for posting icky content. It gets even worse when you see how they abuse the Privatter or Curiouscat links the Twitter artists provide, made for anonymous feedback or for being the final barrier for an adult piece that says “hey this stuff is NSFW, don’t click if you are underage, last warning”. I’m gonna go into this more when I cover TikTok in the next few paragraphs. But ultimately, the artists on that site are having to be constantly vigilant against abuse, and it’s not unusual for them having to spend hours going through their 1K+ followers and having to block every underage follower who just didn’t fucking listen to their warnings. Imagine how exhausting and irritating and down-right uncomfortable that must be; having to monitor every fan that sees your work out of fear that they’re a minor seeing adult content or that they could throw abusive comments at you. Horrible.
Instagram is saturated with bots attempting to steal your work or advertise it on their own page and feedback isn’t really a ‘thing’ on there. Also, their algorithm (which may have also been implemented on Twitter, I believe that the Twitter algorithm now avoids promoting popular artist terms, but I can’t be certain bc the Twitter post that pointed this out is long-lost in the depths of my timeline, bc again, no tagging system) is based more around sharing than likes, which can be a huge barrier to artists. Sure, you may like someones art and even leave a nice comment on it, but do you really want to share every piece you come across, especially if it’s not something you would show dear Aunty Susan who follows you? It’s infuriating that a whole site dedicated for images is so difficult to use for artists, and with Instagram implementing features that are similar to Snapchats ‘stories’ it’s clear they’ve moving in a different direction, focusing on momentary attention-grabbing photos. This is simply because Instagram is advertising itself as more of a promotional influencer site nowadays, and anything that could sully their reputation has to be thrown into the algorithm trash. NSFW art or just plain ‘bad’ art? Trash. If you’re not gonna make money for them then why should they bother? You wanna promote your art? Pay for it because the algorithm will absolutely be working against you.
Now, the biggest fucking offender for worst art-sharing site of the year is TikTok (no surprise there), which is absolutely rampant with reposts and uncredited artwork and a gateway for abusive comments against artists. Like the Ouroboros snake, it goes through the same pattern every time; People (usually minors) find art on Twitter or Pinterest and repost it, usually without credit or going against the artist’s wishes about reposting. Then it either goes two-ways: Firstly, if the piece is SFW it will get about five-seconds of interest, a like for the reposter and people will then just move on. TikTok is built entirely around short bursts of satisfaction, feeding a a constant loop of serotonin for a few seconds before you move on. So ultimately, people rarely then hunt down the original artist, especially if their credit isn’t readily available, and usually the original artists doesn’t see any rise in likes, followers or popularity and are usually unaware that their art is even getting any attention on TikTok.
Or, if the art is NSFW, it can go down the second way. It is reposted and, as the majority of TikTok users are under-18, many users find the image uncomfortable, especially if it is a bit more ‘out-there’ or of a ship they don’t like. The reposters sometimes find the image off of Privatter, which is even worse since the piece has been posted to Privatter not just as a final barrier against minors, but also as a form of directing the piece to a specific and niche audience due to it’s... spicer than usual NSFW content. I’m talking really specific pieces with really specific kinks. Now that piece is floating around TikTok, widely seen by the general fans of a fandom, who again, are usually underage. The viewers grow uncomfortable, as the piece is not made for them, especially since sometimes the reposter only posted the piece for shock-value, and would even encourage insulting comments by only posting the credits for the purpose of getting fans to throw abuse at the artist (”The artist is ***** but they ship **** and are icky”) and so the viewers finally decide to make the effort to hunt down the original artist, only to throw insulting and bullying comments at them, made worse by the fact that they are children who don’t have the sense to hold back and have been fuelling their mindset in the echo-chamber that is TikTok.
And as a result of a lot of this hostile feedback for artists, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a space for amateur artists who are just starting out, since the art community is becoming a little bit scary. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that new (or not even new but recently promoted) sites such as Artstation are becoming a better place for professional artists only, but it is very intimidating for learner artists. That’s not necessarily a bad thing - I believe that part of the reason for Deviantarts decline was that the tagging system was horrible, so good art was being drowned out by amateur, fetish content, so more advanced artists were distancing themselves from the site, especially if they were trying to build a portfolio for employment. I also find that fanart usually gets far more likes than more original art pieces, even if the original piece is amazingly good, which isn’t a criticism against fanart but posting your original piece on a site more aimed at professional pieces may help you reach your target audience better and improve likes and interaction. However, that does mean that if you are an amateur, or hell, just an average artists who is still learning, your best bet for exposure is posting your piece across multiple sites and very, very regularly, braving any abusive comments if you try anything slightly “spicy”. Which, obviously, become a very potentially toxic atmosphere and it’s not uncommon for artists to feel burn-out or depressed at their lack of attention or the cyber-bullying they may receive.
I’m not trying to say that posting artwork has always been easy, but there is definitely a more aggressive culture surrounding it and I think artists have to be aware that chances are they will face insulting comments, reposters, frustrating algorithms, cyber-bullying, a lack of interaction and burn-out as they try and appeal to websites that would do the bare minimum for you in terms of promotion.
This isn’t meant to be a post to scare away artists, I just wanted to point out that there is a big fucking problem and it feels as though it’s getting worse. Nowadays, websites have become a bit too comfortable targeting creators rather than fans when it comes to monitoring content and artists have been put under more and more pressure as they face more and more abuse that is rarely addressed, especially by the sites themselves that host the content. Things that are a huge punch in the face for artists, such as NFT’s, are becoming more normalised and it’s honestly just sad.

hi ash! i know you said before that you're not autistic you just did a lot of research to depict chris realistically- do you have any advice for finding resources on writing disabled characters that isn't like... horribly abelist? im writing someone with an intellectual disability from head trauma and who is nonverbal, and i want to get it right but everything online seems very autism-speaks-y. im autistic and semiverbal but i dont have an id and i want to be realistic and respectful.
I cannot speak with any expertise or sense of speaking from enough experience to be taken as an expert here, and defer as always to those with lived experience with intellectual disability!
But I will give a few more general tips for what to do when looking to write a character with a neurological makeup that doesn’t match your own, as far as what has worked for me with Chris:
1. The story should never be ABOUT their lived experience if you do not also have it. Chris’s story is not about autism, or being autistic. I would never presume to try and write a story like that because, whatever my intentions, I don’t have that knowledge that comes from living it. I would at BEST be taking the experiences of others, their voices. At worst, I would be someone standing with a megaphone shouting over those who deserve to be heard.
Making the disability what the plot revolves around is... generally just not going to be a good idea, in any sense. It’s moments like this where I feel like it’s best to defer to the writers who have lived it, instead.
This is not to say “never write someone different than yourself”, because... I don’t think that’s at all good advice. I think that way lies stunted writers who never push themselves. But it does mean “do not center the story on this thing if you have not experienced it and don’t have that knowledge and understanding”.
2. At the same time, don’t try to be coy or dance around or hide the disability behind purple prose or refuse to acknowledge its reality. Trying to make a disability sound cute, or talk around it instead of speaking it out loud, can be minimizing or shaming in ways that I think it’s easy to miss, if you don’t live with that disability yourself! To me, this touches on one of my hugest pet peeves - characters who are written as having a particular neurodivergence in media, or shown on tv, but they never expressly admit to it or name it.
I know I hesitated with Chris, more because I didn’t feel comfortable giving him a diagnosis until I understood autism better myself, and I do regret how long it took me to embrace that reality about him. I just thought it better to err on the side of researching before I embraced. But I do feel some guilt about waiting so long when I had readers who were identifying so heavily with him, and I kind of knew, but just didn’t feel comfortable owning it yet.
3. On a related note - disabilities in a story that become melodramatic tragedy or turn the disabled character into a ‘redemption story’ for an abled character. This is so, so prevalent in common media and pop culture and once you recognize it for what it is, it’s so hard to not see it in so many places. Think of how many movies, novels, etc contain a disabled character who exists to teach abled people some virtuous lesson about living life to the fullest or ‘what it really means to be human’ blah blah blah blah blah. Don’t do that. Please. (I mean, I kind of feel like you definitely won’t, but I’m just speaking very generally here). If you find the story going in a direction in which abled people learn something from the disabled person, please think very carefully and critically as to why the story is heading in that direction.
Language alone can also be a problem here - think about the difference between openly describing a character moving around their life with a wheelchair vs. calling them “wheelchair-bound” or “reliant on a cane”, when the cane or wheelchair may actually represent freedom to that person - an aid they need, yes, but one that allows them to live with far more agency than they might have had otherwise.
To describe them, especially from their own POV, as “wheelchair-bound”, may ring false to disabled people who understand that the wheelchair isn’t a cage, but a tool that allows that individual person to feel less caged by being able to more freely leave home.
(This varies person to person, just providing an example)
4. Educate. Research. And don’t just do so by asking people with disabilities to tell you their stories. I often express gratitude to the autistic readers, those with ADHD, etc who spoke up about Chris, talked about their own experiences, identified with him, found him very resonating for aspects of their own lives.
These stories, this information, this sharing of their lives was given freely to me, and I’m fucking amazed and grateful for how welcomed Chris was, and how willing readers were to share about themselves when talking about him.
Their willingness to speak about these things is something I treasure. But I absolutely would never believe that a single person owed me the story of their life to make sure I got Chris right. That was my responsibility, you know? I try to keep in mind the concept of ‘emotional labor’. Asking a disabled person to be your resource is asking them to give, and give, and give of themself. They may want to give you that kind of labor, they may not. But I definitely wouldn’t ask it of anyone without understanding it was something they were happy or felt comfortable giving.
Research, on the other hand, is essential. You mentioned things being “autism speaks-y” when trying to research on your own, and oh god, do I feel you. It sucks that autism speaks is the first thing to pop up when trying to research the lives of autistic people - and in my research, I was lucky to already know AS sucks and write them off and anyone who heavily referenced them as not helpful. I can see how someone might not know that, though, and stumble on them and believe they were a helpful resource for writing autism when they... well. Nope.
Try to think about the express disability you are writing for this person, and why, and then go research! I looked up “books on autism recommended by autistic people”, and found some invaluable books, yes, but also papers published online, websites, etc! Each of them vetted and looked over and recommended by autistic people, so I knew I was getting information that came from people with those experiences and that understanding. A good example - I picked up a book on the history of diagnosis and treatment of autism in the United States, mentioned it here, and @redwingedwhump recommended a book called Neurotribes... which turned out to be immensely more helpful, spot-on, and provided some really excellent foundational information I wouldn’t have found in the first book at all.
There’s a lot of information out there on Traumatic Brain Injuries and their lasting effects on individuals who receive them, so I would start there. What you’re describing sounds like a TBI with lasting effects! So I would start your research there, and also look up being nonverbal separately, as well as combining the two. Make sure you’re not just looking at the top links - often paid ads or problematic organizations that are able to pay more for better exposure - but also scanning for blogs, nonprofits, lived-experiences stories, too.
I found a lot of information on the second or even third page of results i would never have seen if I only stuck to the first. Remember the algorithm on search engines is usually showing you what other people are clicking on, not necessarily the best source.
5. This is one you the asker already know, but I want to include it for general reasons: do not ‘dumb down’ the thought processes of a nonverbal or semi-verbal person. I see this in fiction surprisingly often, and I think it’s this sense we have as abled people (’we’ just meaning I’m including myself) that being verbal is required to have a highly complex thought process, and it’s... it’s just fucking not. Speech and though are related but not completely wound around each other, and the ability to verbalize is not the same as the ability to think.
Like I said, I know you know this, asker, but it’s something I see in fiction/media and it drives me up the wall. So I wanted to include it.
6. For the love of God, do not use medical terminology unless you actually know what you’re doing/talking about. Many disabled people or those with serious medical conditions become what amounts to experts on their own diagnoses, because they have to. They have to be experts to receive the care they should be able to rely on. If you constantly fuck up terminology - trust me - it will be noticed, and it will take people out of the story or hurt their ability to suspend disbelief while reading.
There are ways to do medical scenes/conversations with doctors that avoid falling into this problem! I would just be very very careful to heavily research before using any complex terminology.
7. This disabled person does not exist to evoke pity. They are a human - nuanced and multi-layered - living their life, and their story should always, always reflect that. I don’t really have anything else to add to that.
I would love to hear further advice from anyone with anything else to add.

Your First priority to market your services or products on Facebook, you must have a Facebook page up and running. By doing that, you will become a part of the 2.80 billion monthly active users community from all over the world.
It sounds amazing, I know, but that’s why this step is so important. Crafting a killer page can really make a huge difference in the whole marketing process.
Before you start posting engaging content, you need to have a customized page, first. If you already own a personal account, then you might know how this works.
To connect with people, you’ll need to add them as friends, and follow businesses by liking their fan pages.
Remember: Don’t open a profile for your business instead of a page, Facebook may shut it down permanently since it’s against their rules.
To begin creating a Facebook page, go to https://www.facebook.com/pages/creation/. There, you will find two different categories to choose from:
✓ Business or Brand
✓ Community or Public Figure Assuming you are a business, Hit on ‘Get Started’ under ‘Business or Brand’ to start the process.
Everything starts with your page name; Think about the name carefully as it is the name that your audience will see. There is an option available for you to change the URL.
After you’ve chosen your page name, you should select the category that your business falls under. Include the details such as an address, phone number, etc., and click on ‘Continue’. You will then land on your own fan page.

Q&A about the notebook and the account
What app do you use ?
Well, for the notebook I use Goodnotes for the writing part and Procreate for the more "artisitic" part like the covers or the photos frame.
Then I use Onedrive to make everything available for you and google doc to have all the links in one unique place !
How much time do you spend on the Notebook ?
Well, it depends on what it is, in the weekend recaps, quite a lot. If you excluded all the preparation before, like making the cover, making the GP guide, the winner list, and get all pages ready, I spend about 1 hour, 1 hour and a half per free practice (not included the time I spend watching it), about 2 hours for quail (again, excluded the time I watch it) and the teammates' difference and the same time for the race (that I watch twice) Additionally, I spend like 45 minutes in the drivers' evolution, and like 3 hours in the version for Instagram (all included).
Do you gain any money with the notebook ?
Absolutely not, I almost not spend money as well because I already had F1TV and all the apps, the only thing I spend money on is on OneDrive that I pay to have more space available so you can still have everything even a year later. But no, no money, if you want to support me, like and reblog what I post and I will be incredibly happy.
Can you make a tutorial about how you do your things ?
Well, sometimes I post some "making of" videos but it doesn't really explain or tells you how I did it, you can only see me making them. I will say for now no, because I don't have much time but it somethings I can think about. To be 100% honest, I don't think it's going to be very helpful to anyone, for example, the Instagram version, I use procreate to do it, and most people will use Photoshop for those kinds of things. But I don't really feel comfortable with it, Procreate is like the app I like to use and it won't fit most people.
Why are you on Instagram too ?
To be honest, some posts here received a lot of support, and it heartwarming, but some just don't, and it a little bit demotivating, as the algorithm here isn't as good as Instagram's. And for example, not be able to share the moment I am working on something, asking opinions with sondages, things like that made me want to be on Instagram as well.
Are you impartial ?
I hope so, but I know I am not a 100%. Biggest example : The egghead. I have my personal opinion on him, I suffered and struggled a lot with what he did, but I prohibit myself from making any differences with other drivers. I try my best to focus on his performance and not his personality and treat him like any other driver but I know deep down that I will be way more tolerant with Mick and his mistakes than I am with the Egghead. I try to work on that but it's not easy.
New things coming soon ?
No, the next thing should be Baku GP guide that will be up on Monday, I am trying to study as much as I can for my exams so nothing new in the next days or even weeks, just the routine of the Grand Prix.
If you have any more questions, don't hesitate writing them down !

Skyrocket Your Business with These 4 Tactics
Tumblr media
A growing business expands in one or more ways; seeking additional options to generate more profit. Every wise entrepreneur seeks for a better way to stand out in the competitive market. The entrepreneur’s ability to identify and implement the best working practises at any given time in the market gives him an edge over others. That is why in this article you will learn 4 marketing methods that will be effective to skyrocket your business in 4 different platforms under our consideration. You will be able to see how you can use these platforms to grow your business.
TIKTOK
Tiktok is one platform entrepreneurs can use presently to drive traffic to websites and increase sells. It is a social network that let's you watch, create and share videos. In Tiktok, you can also browse and interact with other users and their contents. According to Maryam Mohsin a content writer at Oberlo ' Tiktok has 800 Million active users worldwide, it's App has been downloaded over 2 billion times on the App Store and Google Play. Tiktok is a good platform to use and grow your business right now.
How to Use Tiktok Profitably
Unlike Facebook ads that one can post his ads and move on,Tiktok requires some level of work in other to get your business in the limelight. After your sign up, you have to start posting videos about your business, what you offer in order to reach a great number of audience for free.
To be valued and grow in Tiktok, you have to start posting quality contents in regard to your niche. Your videos must be authentic and well-titled. Time management is important in creating your videos, post quality contents in something like a 15-Second Video and follow it up by creating additional Tiktok which should last like 60 seconds in order for your audience to have deeper understanding of what you are presenting.
In Tiktok, you don't have to be dry, Socialize. Comment on people's post. Connect with your other social media networks like Facebook and Instagram and share your videos in your story. Follow different Tiktok groups on other social media and learn how Tiktokers are getting audience. Try always to make use of trends in Tiktok. If what that is trending is in your niche, great, make a video. If it's not, then look for a way to draw inspiration from that and connect your business to it . Just think.
Just as I said earlier, Tiktok requires putting in some work. You have to post often. Be consistent in engaging your audience. Use the Tiktok analytical information in the App to Know where majority of your audience are located in order to post at the right time when they are online because the more engagement your post gets in the first hour will determine if Tiktok algorithm will push the post out to new audience.
You just have to be persistent and don't give up so soon. Remember that the highest Tiktoker started somewhere. Lastly, don't forget the purpose is to drive traffic and make sells. Put the link of your website in your Tiktok profile and see massive results.
QUORA

How to use Quora Effectively

To use this platform effectively, after your sign up, you have to start to answer questions related to your niche. The ideal thing here is that you must have to write quality contents that provides value to the readers. Write good contents that have about 250 to 600 words in your answers and thereafter add a link to your site for people to checkup to access valuable contents in regard to the question. Quora does not support affiliate links, so as an affiliate marketer, you can put the link to your landing page and from there you navigate them to your sales page.
MEDIUM
Medium is an online publishing platform where writers and bloggers can publish articles. Medium helps people to find ideas and knowledge with tons of thousands of articles. According to Casey Botticello in '7 Amazing Medium Platform Statistics', Medium has somewhere between 85 and 100 million monthly active users which demonstrates it's massive audience.
How to Use Medium to Grow your Business
To use this platform profitably, you have to start writing useful articles on your niche, offer value in your articles and thereafter refer people to your website or landing page. It is a good way to drive traffic from medium. Your sole mission of being in medium must not be to drive traffic to your website, let giving value through your article be a priority.
In medium, sharing of link is not forbidden but they don’t want that to be abused. Medium is good for affiliate marketers as it does not ban contents with affiliate links. Their exact policy on publishing content with affiliate links says:
"You must disclose affiliate links or payment for a post. Affiliate links, such as link out to Amazon with your code,or any other link out where you will receive commission or other value, are allowed in post. But you must disclose somewhere in the post that it includes affiliate links. If you have received payment, goods or services, or something else of value in exchange for writing a post, you must still disclose this fact in writing within your post"
After your article is published on medium, do well to share the link of your article to social media platforms so that your post will have more engagement. When your article gets good engagement within the first hour, it gives it a higher chance of being selected by medium curators so that it can be assigned to the readers recommendation list.

Bitcoin 2 (BTC2) the technical background and why you should care!
The cryptocurrency of the next decade with several improvements to Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Dash and more.
Tumblr media
You may have heard of cryptocurrencies called Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) or Dash (DASH). Three of the top #30 listed CoinMarketCap coins with the biggest one, Bitcoin, at its top. Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency ever created by Satoshi Nakamoto back in 2007. Since then many more digital currencies launched and tried to revolutionize and improve the online payment system. One of them is Bitcoin 2 (BTC2), a 2018 launched Bitcoin fork created by Jackles and Hiromono. Why we need it and you should take a look in it is simply explained below and upcoming articles! So dont be concerned if you read words or things you dont know. This will be a series of articles about BTC2.
The complete comparison and the Maximum Supply in detail
Tumblr media
Lets start with a simple comparison. Bitcoin 2 has the same maximum supply of 21 million coins as the first Bitcoin. Which causes a limited supply and thus a steadily increasing increase in value through block reward cuts (so called halvings). Unlike Bitcoin the Bitcoin 2 block reward cut takes place once every month instead of every four years and can bring the inflation rate down to a whopping 0.59% by July 2022. For comaprison, the US Dollar devaluates on average 3% every year. For example, in 2018 100$ equalled 103$ in 2019. So at the moment Im writing this article, Bitcoin 2 already has a smaller inflation rate of just 1,18% getting lower and lower every month (fun fact: its even lower then the Bitcoin inflation rate of currently 2,56%)! What is also very interesting is the current supply of money. The US monetary supply increased by over 20% in the last year!!
The current Bitcoin 2 supply can be found here.
The Algorithm
Tumblr media
Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and Dash use Proof of Work (POW). Bitcoin 2 instead uses the Proof of Stake (POS) algorithm. One of the major differences is the huge energy consumption caused by PoW which urges the miners to sell their coins to pay the electricity bill (fun fact: Bitcoin uses 77,78 TWh this is more energy then the country Chile. A single transaction needs the equivalent to the power consumption of an average U.S. household over approximately 24 days)! With PoS the mining power is based on the percentage of coins held by a miner. This leads to a very, very low energy consumption. For comparison, you can run a Bitcoin 2 wallet with any amount of coins (which gives you a passive income of BTC2) on one of the smallest PCs in the world, a Raspberry Pi. To start mining Bitcoin you need hundreds if not thousands of dollars to buy the hardware you need. In addition, there is the high energy bill!
The Block Interval
Tumblr media
The creation time of a block differs from cryptocurrency to cryptocurrency. Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash have a block interval of one block every 10 minutes. Dash is much faster with just 2,5 minutes but gets simply beaten by Bitcoin 2 and its 1 minute block time! What does this mean? If you want to send a transaction, it must first be processed in a block and thereby confirmed. The lower the block time and the larger the block size, the faster the transaction. Bitcoin has an initial block size of 1MB while Bitcoin 2 uses 4MB.
The maximum amount of transactions per day
The block interval and block size define the transaction speed. Bitcoin can handle up to 500.000 transactions a day, Bitcoin 2 approximately 20.000.000. Thats a 40x increase!
The privacy feature (zBTC2)
Note: zBTC2 is currently disabled while a new privacy protocol is being worked on.
zBTC2 was implemented to fix the anonymity problem of Bitcoin, the public ledger system. In the further explanation I have to quote the developers, as my knowledge is insufficient about this point. Much more about zBTC2 can be found on the official website.
“An address may seem like it is fully anonymous but if you made a transaction with an address that is generated by the exchanges and/or other merchant services, you have essentially linked your anonymous address with an address that may lead to your identity.
Such transparency may not always be an issue. But it could become a serious problem if the coin that you hold was once associated with an undesirable history or if your address was being targeted by potential thieves.
To overcome this issue, Bitcoin 2 has implemented a well known highly-vetted protocol called Zerocoin with many custom enhancements allowing blockchain-level transaction anonymity in the way of unlinkability.
We call this zBTC2, where BTC2 is a unit of Bitcoin 2 and z prefix is for Zerocoin.
What zBTC2 provides is a protocol-level coin mixing service using zero knowledge proofs to sever the link between the sender and the receiver with 100% anonymity and untraceability. This means that each coin that gets sent using zBTC2 is now 100% fungible as it has no determinable history attached to them.
The use of zBTC2 also means your balance can be masked to avoid being targeted by potential thieves. This is a very unique feature that nearly no other cryptocurrency currently in the market possesses.
Bitcoin 2 zBTC2 accumulators are encrypted using RSA-2048[1] challenge generated keys which negates the need for a developer trusted setup and means that no individual knows the factors. This means that everyone’s privacy is ensured through the use of zBTC2.”
The instant transaction feature (SwiftTX)
Note: The SwiftTX feature is currently disabled due to lack of current use cases.
The SwiftTX feature is made for Point of Sale situations in the real world. Lets say you are in a store and you want to buy a new pair of shoes. In the current world you can pay with a credit card or cash, both methodes work directly and are immediately confirmed. If you want to pay with Bitcoin instead you need to wait for the transaction to confirm. This can take multiple minutes up to hours. This is where SwiftTX comes in. Just like the “InstantSend” feature in Dash a user can choose to send a transaction as SwiftTX. “The transaction will be sent to Masternodes to process and it gets verified and guaranteed by them almost instantly.”
As soon as the implementation of BTC2 occurs in real world scenarios, this function can thus be activated to enable direct transactions. At the current moment, with the average confirmation time of one minute, there is no real use for this.
The Masternode Yield
Tumblr media
The current masternode yield is at approximately 25%. What does this mean? If you have 1000 BTC2 (the required amount to run a masternode) you will get 25% back every year. So in one year your 1000 BTC2 will turn into 1250 and so on. Keep in mind: the more masternodes there are, the lower the yield rate gets. Currently the BTC2 network has 210 active masternodes. So just for owning these coins and thus adding speed, connectivity and redundancy to the network you get a certain amount of your investment back, thats pretty cool! As soon as the SwiftTX feature is activated again, a masternode also processes and confirmes these transactions.
The Staking Yield
Just like the masernode yield you get a staking yield for helping to support the blockchain with your coins. You can switch on staking directly in the wallet and without much effort. You can stake with any amount of BTC2. Lets say you have 450 BTC2, these 450 will give you a revenue of about 0.5 BTC2 a day. Just like with masternodes: the more people stake, the less you get back yourself.
And much, much more interesting technology…
In the next posts you will get an idea how to set up the BTC2 wallet, operate a masternode, enable staking, and so on…

The Great Internet Debate
Since the tail end of 2020, many Australians were informed by Google of a political stoush between big news corporations and the tech company behind our favourite search engine. The open letter to end users read like a doomsday spiel – spelling out the encroaching disaster if a mandatory news code came into effect. The proposed legislation – the News Media Bargaining Code – was explained as a means of paying for news content when all that Google did was provide the necessary links for people to ‘choose’ what content they actively consumed. Google also advised that the News Media Bargaining Code would make it unfair for small businesses as larger media companies would be informed of algorithm changes ahead of time and be given data on users to maximise coverage.
A grim picture was painted. Why should big news media companies receive data and information about everyday users of a search engine? Why should their links be propped up higher than other smaller outlets?
At the start of 2021, after a Senate hearing, Google also warned that the proposed legislation might lead to the removal of Google Search in its entirety in Australia. Why? Because why should it pay to just provide a multitude of links based off whatever a person is searching for?
I know that as a writer, most of my searches aren’t news related. In fact, they’re mostly about things people wore in the 18th to 19th century. I ask the internet when doorknobs were invented or the nature of horse care. There was even one enquiry that might have put me on alert lists across the world: how long does it take for a body disposed in water to rise to the surface?
But that was important for a very singular scene in my story, all right! Murder happens in my stories! I just want to make sure that I’ve got all the facts right as well as the science!
What Google, and by extension Facebook, failed to address was the uneven distribution of ad revenue when it comes to large news media. With the advent of the internet, it’s become much harder for traditional newspapers and television stations to accrue the wealth they had.
The news media Bargaining Code however would force huge tech giants to negotiate with each individual news corporation and find a way to ensure a ‘fair’ means of distributing ad revenue by entering into commercial agreements or be subjected to arbitration. In this way, jobs could be kept and journalism could be regarded, once again, as the respected profession that it should be. So, to be honest, it does sound like a noble thing to do in order to support struggling companies.
As for my personal opinion? Well, I’ll be honest with you. I’m not entirely swayed by any one side. There are pros and cons to each.
My own experience with the search engine is indicative of this. The only time I’ve used Google to search for the news is when I’ve been too lazy to memorise the actual link for ABC News. Otherwise, it’s very easy to simply type into your browser: news.com.au or smh.com.au
Often, I feel that the one great problem with these news websites is their inability to modernise and to accommodate a generation that prefers immediacy. A lot of news websites, based off the newspapers that are still being published, have arbitrary gatekeeping with regards to the number of ‘free’ articles that can be viewed each month and an exorbitant subscription fee.
Let’s, for the sake of argument, use the Sydney Morning Herald as an example. Most of their articles on their main website have intriguing headlines and a small excerpt for what the article is about. One can easily get the gist of the content readily available simply by skimming over the content. There’s no mystery or anything too attention grabbing.
If one were curious and wished to learn more, they’d simply click open the article.
But this is where the Sydney Morning Herald falters a little.
Ad revenue, as most people know, is driven by clicks. The more clicks an end-user makes, the more money a company can make. Perhaps, it’s true, that news corporations could make a few more dollars by partnering with search engines to ensure that ads on their website are linked to whatever other websites that the end-user was previously poring over. After all, I’m not as interested in say a NAB home loan than a new game that’s come out.
Yet the crux of the matter comes from the very fact that the Sydney Morning Herald only allows five ‘free’ articles per month. In order to get around that, one needs to ‘subscribe.’ And the subscriptions aren’t very cheap. Particularly for the younger generation. $3.50 a week sounds nice, but if you add it all up, it can be quite significant. Annually, the Starter Digital is $160 per year.
Not a choice most people are willing to dip their toes in when they also have to pay for Netflix, Stan, Disney+ and a whole host of other things that catch their eye.
So, how does something like the Sydney Morning Herald make money when paper is all but dead? One thing they could implement is additional ads on their website and perhaps at the top and bottom of their articles. They could also stop hiding their articles behind paywalls. No student has the money to pay for it, particularly when they’re only using the website for a school project.
Lower your subscriptions and give more back to the consumer. Make it more appealing.
News.com.au might not have the cleanest reputation, but their headlines catch the eye. It might be click-baity as all hell, but in this day and age, it’s what helps it to survive.
It’s not a perfect solution, true, but it might give them a little bit more of a boost.
And instead of only relying on the written word, it might be prudent now to create more videos to elucidate the topics they want to explore. Particularly when it comes to news that most consumers want on a more instantaneous basis. These days, video streaming is the way to go. Three-minute or five-minute videos are pretty easily digestible. And a lot of it can be monetised. It might not be a huge amount of money, but every little thing counts.
Investigative journalism, on the other hand, would need to be well researched and thought out. You can have a written article and transcript or you could have a well-plotted fifteen-minute video. The dialogue needs to be snappy yet informative. News needs to learn how to target their audiences instead of catering only to the older generation.
As for recaps of movies or television shows? You can’t go wrong with James Weir and his commentary. I might not watch Married at First Sight or the Bachelor, but I’d almost definitely read his recap of the episodes because of his biting comments and snide observations.
APPEAL TO THE LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR!
Make your websites lively. Make them relevant. Grab the attention of millennials and Generation Z instead of pandering to baby boomers.
Beyond that, find ways to adapt in the current marketplace. So many YouTube creators have to constantly find ways to get around changes to the YouTube algorithm. They complain, sure, but in order to be fair, no one content creator should be told what the changes will be beforehand.
Above all else, negotiate in good faith. And stand your ground. Google and Facebook should not just threaten to remove their services from the good people of Australia just for few million dollars in ad revenue. But, there’s also no need to demand algorithms or have your links unfairly pushed to the top of Google Search and quashing smaller independent voices.
Even if Facebook were to take away the ability to share links, though, I’m sure people will still be able to make do. I know that I, for one, could very easily summarise an article that I’ve read. And if someone wanted links...well...I’m sure I could devise a method to provide an alternate solution to do so.
In any case, depending on how Google reacts, this humble blogger might have to think about investing in a VPN. Which, unfortunately, might see local Australian businesses suffer because the massive search engine I’m using would be defaulted to another country somewhere in the vast piece of rock we call home. Of course, in saying that, we do still have Bing. So, you know what? Everyone, it’s time to put Bing on the map and make it a serious contender against Google.
So, despite my limited understanding of the entire kerfuffle that’s been kicked up between Google and traditional news media, that is my two cents on the situation. Greed is not good. And don’t use a good honest people as hostages to the regulation of the wild west internet.
Edit: By the time this post goes up, Google has come to several agreements with major news corporations in Australia whilst Facebook has removed all news content for Australians. Which means no sharing of links to news websites for all of us down under.
Unfortunately, news wasn’t properly defined and so many other pages had their posts wiped, such as emergency services and a member of parliament. Here’s hoping that Facebook will also put a stop on conspiracy pages and anti-vaxxer propaganda.
Further edit: After a week of removing news content, Facebook has reversed its decision.
