Hold up, Lena mentioning that some of the beings that exists in this universe are benevolent could be a confirmation that there was something already here before the Fears showed up.
I know that the Fears got reshuffled, but I don't think any of them would be capable of becoming benevolent, no matter how smushed they get. So it probably something else.
It would also add importance to the balance the OIAR is, supposedly, trying to achieve. They Fears would be the thing that's causing everything to get unbalanced because they are not supposed to be here.
This could also mean conflict between the Fears and whatever native entities there are.

The interesting thing about tmagp episode 9 is that, from one perspective, it's about a pair of dice that kill you if you roll a crit fail. And in TMA that would be very End-coded. Games of chance were End-coded, and death is obviously The End. Open and shut case.
Except it's not, here. The statement giver had never seen anyone roll a 2 before he ran into Gary in that coffee shop, even after thousands of rolls. That's not an End artifact. Those dice are going out of their way not to kill anyone, save those who try to part with them.
The compulsion to roll feels like the Web, but is it? Certainly games of chance can become addicting, but I don't think that's the whole story. The Web is about the fear of the loss of control, yes, but it's also about something else controlling you instead. Here that something else is an embodiment of "random" chance - although again, it's not properly-random, not even pseudorandom. I have thoughts on that but they're best addressed further on.
Weirdly, of all the manifestations of Fear from TMA, this statement seems most akin to Jude Perry's - rolling the dice with other people's lives and fortunes, for the thrill of sometimes devastating them.
Which brings me back to the possibility of AU Fears.
In the Protocolverse, why shouldn't there be a Fear associated with chance and luck and fate and misfortune that happens for no good reason? A fear of lacking control and losing everything, without anyone else necessarily having that control.
This is where the way the dice are rigged becomes possibly meaningful. Their outcomes aren't random - they're what humans expect random to look like. They operate according to the gambler's fallacy, where the longer a chain of bad luck you have the more you're due for a good roll, and vice versa. Snake eyes aren't just a normal outcome of the 1-in-36 chance of rolling 2d6 - they're reserved for when someone is cursed with truly rotten luck. Notably that isn't true of boxcars: those just happen sometimes, without prerequisite.
Logically, a Fear of Misfortune wouldn't operate on the actual rules of probability, would it? It would be shaped by the superstitions of those that feared it.
(Also, I hope this statement puts the "they're not fears they're desires!" theory to bed. This guy didn't want the dice, and didn't especially want to roll them, but seemed compelled to anyway.)

the first episode of the magnus archives, angler fish, was like luring the protagonist, the statement giver and the listeners IN (and poor ill fated jon was pulled into avatarship, just by being at the wrong place at the wring time)
while the first episode of the magnus protocol seems to be warning the protag, the victim and the listeners AWAY (yet sam chooses to keep investigating)
something something jon dug out statements, went looking for them, kept trying his hardest to record them, chose to dig in
something something sam had to do literally nothing to have not one but two entries read out to him
something something choice vs fate
choice vs fate and how they're really the same thing here

More Jon because I can :) Bet you’ll never guess who my favorite character is lol
I know I’d didn’t involve all of the fears on the wheel but we’re ignoring that and moving on I may or may not have not spaced the bubbles out correctly-
I have so so so many thoughts on TMA2 and I can’t fit them all here but suffice to say I’m so hyped and I really hope the product they out out ends up being as good as the original. I trust mr Jonny Sims not to let TMA get ripped off :D
I’m still working on that other peice btw! This is just smth I did inebtween

If there are truly benevolent entities in this universe I want them Bloodborne style, in which they are sympathetic, but are so separated from us that they are incapable of truly helping or comprehending humans

something I genuinely love about the magnus archives is how excellent it is at showing both the beauty and the horror in the separate fears.
I love it when a piece of media shows me something awful, something terrifying, something that could break a human mind, and can still make me go "fuck, that's beautiful, though."
it reflects humanity in a more accurate way, I think. like, our fears aren't that cut and dry because we're not that cut and dry. the corruption is, objectively, a terrifying concept.
thousands of bugs infesting your body? a crawling rot that seeps into your blood? horror at its best. but then it turns around and it shows you why people become its avatars.
it's a home. a home that can never leave you, a home that will always be there. it's a purpose, it's belonging, it's a reason more profound than most people could ever find on their own.
and then there are the less obviously terrifying fears. the more existential ones like the beholding or the lonely. the ones that can make you go 'hey, maybe that wouldn't be so bad.'
and then jonny sims like the legend he is just goes 'yeah they would be actually.' sure, the beautiful alluring side is shown. but so is the utter horror of isolation and total lack of privacy. the raw agony of it all, and why exactly those are fears.
idk, I just think it's kinda neat :)

I hope that in Protocol the entities are the same but slightly to the left. Like The Corruption is just called "The Bugs :)" or something and it's never addressed by Jon or Alex
