it doesn't really matter whether or not belos would be homophobic or transphobic or racist or whatever as a person when as a character his role in the narrative is to embody an abstract oppressor that murders and subjugates an abstract embodiment of a generalized Other (imagined as witches and demons — an allusion to stereotypes about various marginalized people in real world)

when people call belos a villain that ultimately thrives on bigotry inevitably someone will come and say "oh, but he isn't a bigot! he doesn't hate minorities — he just hates witches!" but the thing is, witches in the owl house ARE minorities. not in a literal sense — I'm sure there's plenty of white cishet witches — but an abstract and generalized depiction of the feared Other.

now obviously there are also many things to say about belos' own otherness but i don't want to go there right now. just wanted to get this take out of my head
