[closed starter for @shatteredwastes - based off this post]
He had hoped to let her take things at her own pace, tried to let things come into their own without him trying to push or nudge them along... but that was not how things were going to turn out at this rate, are they?
Tumblr media
He does not need visions of the future, nor the words of an oracle, to see where this all was headed, where it all could end up.
You did not rescue Claudia and grant her shelter to see her die, nor did you promote Amata and tie her to everyone in order to see herself pull away from the world.
Another part of you is caustically giddy at the irony, a hermit trying to stop another from becoming a hermit as well. You... are doing your best to keep that side of you in check, scathing commentary is ill advised for this after all.
Not when every moment you grow closer to her, to the chamber hidden away within your heart the Halls, you feel the anguish brewing within her. The frustration, the sorrow, the isolation, even surrounded by an ever-growing veritable kingdom of individuals joining under and rallying to your banner... and that gnaws at you more than you've tried to let on.
...but that was a mistake, wasn't it? Sometimes words still speak louder than actions, and clearly words are needed now.
You can only hope you can help her, given how much you have already failed her.
You take a breath, then cross the threshold, in more ways than one, as you enter her chamber - not her quarters, but the hidden room that contained her true core.
Another part of you wonders at the prominence of that observation, as if wondering if this too was a mistake... or rather if there could be more done for her here. That thought lingers as you enter the room, and Amata's focus.

Ok in an attempt to exorcise the part of my brain thinking about doing a full rewrite of the Labyrinth au, I'm just going to tell you all everything about it right here instead
- four courts, according to the seasons. The Moraine Monarch rules Spring, the Seelie Ruiri is over Summer, the Goblin King over Autumn, and the Unseelie Emperor over Winter
- as transitional courts, Spring and Autumn rulers are actually always born human. The Moraine each claim a changeling for their Heir, and the Goblin King was the first wish-away
- though different sorts of fae make up the rulers of each, there are every type in each kingdom- from pixies to goblins to elves to dragons.
- All Hallows Eve marks the most chaotic night as far as fae in the human realm go- the solstices and equinoxes have a lot too, but more limited to one group at a time. Not so for this free for all. That means that this is the worst night possible to make a wish-away: while the Goblin King has claim over all of them, this is the one night that another may grab a wish-away first, and depending on who grabs them it can be rather difficult to get them back
- Izuku was a human boy until he met, befriended, and then was taken by Toshinori, the current Moraine Monarch and a changeling himself. Yo Shindo was left in his place. Inko has noticed her son growing more confident as he grows older, but doesn't think anything else is off. Izuku uses "Deku" as a common name to not give away his, and is the Heir of Spring.
- The Ruiri of Summer is Grandpa Yakuza himself. Chisaki is a Ri Buiden (lesser king, if you will), and the most notable thing he's done is attempt to snatch Shoto when he was wished away (and failed), and then kidnapped Eri, at the time the only known Spring Unicorn. Izuku and a few others had to get him back, and Chisaki's power was reduced in his court, the Ruiri giving Mirio some of his ceremonial powers instead.
- Hawks is the Goblin King, the first child to be wished away. The only one that's never had an Heir, his court has always been at a disadvantage to the others, so as charitable as he is for someone who's been in fairy for so long, he's got some personal motivation in getting all of the Todorokis so he can finally be at equal stance with the other courts and not rely on Spring so much.
- Tomura is the newest court leader, the Emperor of Winter who sits on the throne and bones of the former one he was raised by before usurping. The last Emperor took him from Spring after an insult from former queen Nana. He's a quarter human, initially, but being majority fae means he's fine to sit on the throne. Even if it gives him... Slight confidence issues.
- Enji has dragon and elven blood. Rei has selkie and witch. Of their children, only Shoto has an affinity for all four abilities. Natsuo only has witch, Fuyumi only selkie, and Touya only dragon. This matters little in the human world, but does attract fae and gives them the supernaturally bad luck of wishing-aways always happening on All Hallows.
- Touya, wished-away first, was intercepted by the former Emperor. His burns are a result of this, and he's held together by iron piercings that he had to himself to free himself of any influence by the Emperor or any other fae. They're his best and only defense when his offensive dragon fire fails.
- Shoto, wished-away second, was almost taken by Chisaki but as Hawks learned and was watching more closely this time, he snatched him back before anything worse than one minor burn was dealt. Shoto grew most quickly of the siblings, about fourteen years worth in the span of two human ones. He's more amiable to Hawks and more aware of the full scope of his plans, but he's also rather irreverent and not actually close to him, preferring to wander and spend time with his own friends.
- Natsuo, the third wish-away. Also the one Hawks intends to name Heir, though as Hawks has functional immortality, he does so planning that the lad will never rule, unlike the Moraine. Honestly the most happy about being in Fairy, and the one told the most about the plan.
- Fuyumi, a selkie born without a sealskin. As such, as soon as she interacted with magic it became possible that something would become her "skin" in that if taken, she'd be forced to physically follow and wouldn't be able to access any magic without it. Hawks suspects that her siblings might have become her skin and that she would be compelled to enter the Labyrinth anyway, but isn't actually sure. He doesn't care since his plan works either way.
- Touya- going by Dabi since he's been burned enough to know fae rules by now- is told by Hawks that Fuyumi is there to try to retrieve her brother, right before the All Hallows where they're planning on bringing Rei to Fairy. He assumes that she's here for Shoto and the his job (he, regrettably, Owes Hawks even beyond being beholden to him as a wish-away) is to stall her until. On learning that this isn't the case, he sorta freaks out just a little. A lot. He isn't happy, ok. He isn't happy that she wished-away Natsuo, and the fact that she wasn't there for Shoto ruined some of the perception he had that of course people came for the perfect mix but not him. Both of them having been 'forgetten' is something that required a paradigm shift.
- This is further complicated after he tricks Fuyumi into eating a drugged apple and watches her dream- one that includes all three of her brothers, and now he has to accept that she didn't come for the other two not because they were forgetten but because Natsuo was literally the only one she could. Then he gets sus of Hawks for that, and wakes her mostly because he wants to get to the King quickly and demand an answer.
- enter Shoto, who both gives them exposition faster about the plan, and also slows them down because Fuyumi cannot be allowed to see Natsuo until the time ends and she has a million questions for him about how on earth he's not a two year old.
- there are a few minor subplots about Shoto preparing to help Rei pass over via a mirror in her bathroom in the hospital, about Mitsuki being a mother still looking for her wish-away after years in the Labyrinth, about Tomura having pixie spies, about Izuku being annoyed that as changelings he and Toshinori can't go back over to the human land when everyone else does, and about Hitoshi needing something from Hawks so he offers his silvertongue services at stalling Fuyumi once Dabi flips out and leaves temporarily.
- other characters: Toga is an Unseelie pixie who got her wing privileges revoked after annoying Tomura but will likely get them back, Aizawa is a Cat Sidhe, Tenya an elf, Ochako a Seelie pixie. The first Moraine Monarch, First, was a human changeling. AfO was the one exchanged for him, and he was rather unhappy to come back to Fairy to find that the minor human he replaced and had been chosen for the throne, so he decided he should have a crown just like his "brother." Or rather, bigger than his brother's.
- I'm also toying with the idea that, as someone born human, Hawks can actually "dial up or down" how human or fae he is at any moment, to the point of being able to lie and resist iron, though at those times he's unable to access any magic and monitor his kingdom so he really tries not to go that far but to keep a good balance. Unsure but yeah the rest is fun.

Whumptober 2021- Prompt # 4: Trust Fall
Devilsclaw was traveling alongside Tarragon, Bitterclover, and Dandelion, when suddenly he was grabbed from behind. He tried to scream, but a hand covered his mouth, and another throttled his throat. He grabbed at the hands that choked him, and tried to kick himself free, but he was already subdued.
“Shh, be still now, Thorn prince. We do not wish to hurt you. Come with us quietly, and do as we say.”
The unseen captor eased their grip on Devilsclaw, but he still couldn’t speak. He pawed at his own face, and was horrified to feel a strip of parchment sealing his mouth.
“We put a scroll of silence on you. It’s a demonic spell. A curse, if you will. But never fear. We know the counter-spell, an angelic blessing, to take it back off.” This voice was different. Higher. There were two people here.
One captor grabbed Devilsclaw’s wrists and held them before him, and the other bound them with a long rope. Devilsclaw struggled and screamed, even though his voice was muffled and he was outnumbered. He recognized one of them. The blue hair styled in an undercut was a dead giveaway. Brambleberry, a Wildflower Nomad. The other was a stranger. But their pink skin,  green mohawk, and face full of piercings betrayed their identity. Horsecrippler.
Brambleberry finished tying the final knot, and Horsecrippler struck the backs of Devilsclaw’s knees with a wooden staff. Devilsclaw doubled over,, falling to his knees, wincing with pain. Brambleberry and Horsecrippler towered over Devilsclaw as he knelt on the ground.
“I warned you.” Horsecrippler sneered. “Obey me or you will get hurt.” They grabbed Devilsclaw under his arms, and hoisted him back on his feet.
“Are you well enough to walk?” Brambleberry asked.
Before Devilsclaw could answer, Bramleberry yanked on the long rope that dangled from Devilsclaw’s bound hands, forcing him to stagger a few steps forward.
“Yep, he’s alright to march.” Horsecrippler snipped.
“Alright, come along now, Thorn prince. We have plans for you.”
They brought him toward the Wildflower Palace, a magnificent tower of intertwined grass, trees, and stones. Even from a mile away, they could see the green spire as they approached its living walls. Brambleberry walked in front of Devilsclaw, leading him by the rope. Horsecrippler walked behind, with their needle-sharp blade aimed at the small of Devilsclaw’s back, forcing him to keep up his pace. Devilsclaw hung his head, ashamed of his capture.
They finally reached a massive, mossy door of their destination. Brambleberry pounded on the door. Devilsclaw mewled against the scroll that gagged him, and struggled against the ropes, but Horsecrippler held him down. “Shut up! We’ve taken you this far. We’re not letting you get away now.” But Devilsclaw continued to resist.
Just then, the door swung open, revealing a beautiful fae with long blue braids falling over her dark brown skin.
“Larkspur! Just in time!” Horsecrippler called out, still struggling to control Devilsclaw.
“Horsecrippler. Brambleberry.” Larkspur nodded in a curt greeting. “Who have you got there?”
“We’ve captured the Thorn prince!” Brambleberry boasted.
“Is that so? I’ve never met Devilsclaw in person before. Sovereign will be most pleased! Come now, take him inside.”  Larksur stepped aside, welcoming them within.
Devilsclaw stared at Larkspur as Horsecrippler and Brambleberry dragged him in. She didn’t look like he had pictured her. She was an ancient and wise elder mystic, yet she appeared so young.  But why did he even know her name?He had heard of her before, but where and when? Could she be the one who had stolen Bitterclover from the Bisti Badlands?
“You’re lucky that our Wandering King happened to be in the palace tonight. Our Sovereign travels extensively, even for one of our nomadic clan of Wildflowers.” Larkspur led them down the earthy hallway. They came across a wooden door, with brass knobs and knocker, at the end of a narrow passageway. Larkspur rapped  her knuckles on the door three times. “Lord Sovereign, it is I, Larkspur, your royal Mystic. Your faithful soldiers, Brambleberry and Horsecrippler, have come to seek your audience.”
After a few moments, there was a rattle at the brass doorknob, and the door opened with a creak. Someone with blonde hair peeked through the crack.
“Marigold! Is our king in the throne room?”
“Yes, lady Larkspur. Please come inside. Horsecrippler, Brambleberry. Welcome.” Marigold gasped when she saw Devilsclaw, bound and gagged. “Is that-?”
Larkspur put a finger on her lips to hush her. “Shh. It’s a surprise.”
Marigold nodded silently, and ushered them all into the grand throne room.
Devilsclaw gulped. The roome was supported by columns of red marble, and the floor was pink granite. The walls were adorned with impressionist oil paintings framed in ornate brass, bronze, and gold. The throne was similarly jeweled and intricate. Before the grand throne, stood a tall, lean man with locks of golden hair spilling out over his suit of armor. He wore a robe of red velvet. He stood proud, holding his mighty broadsword, pointing ceremoniously downward.
Larkspur and Marigold curtsied, while Brambleberry and Horsecrippler bowed low, taking Devilsclaw down with them. Horsecrippler pushed down on the back of Devilsclaw’s head, forcing him down even further, as he tried to crane his neck to look Sovereign in the eye.
“Welcome to my court, subjects. What brings you to my palace this evening?” Sovereign spoke in a smooth, soothing voice. Even as he spoke softly, his voice commanded respect and reverence.
“Your majesty, Brambleberry and I have captured the Thorn prince, Devilsclaw.” Horsecrippler said.
“I see. Let go of him. I want to take a closer look.”
“My lord?”
“I command you to unhand him!”
Brambleberry and Horsecrippler obeyed. Devilsclaw was still kneeling, but straightened his back up straight in defiance. The king grabbed Devilsclaw by the chin and peered into his eyes.
“Hmm. Purple irises. Long black hair. Golden hoop earrings. This certainly looks like Devilsclaw.” Sovereign grabbed the rope falling from Devilsclaw’s wrists, and hoisted his hands up, inspecting his arms. “I don’t see any cuts or bruises on him, though it is difficult to tell, with these tattoos. Still, well done. You know I want our prisoners treated fairly. Especially my fellow royalty.”
Devilsclaw winced. Sovereign could not see the welts behind his knees, where Horsecrippler had hit him.
“Thank you, my lord. We followed your orders to treat our captives humanely.” Brambleberry said.
“Indeed. “ Sovereing replied. “ We shall ransom him back to the Thorn Empire. They will have three days to give us our money and collect their prince. Until then, keep him locked up in our holding cells. But unbind him, and give him something to eat and drink.”
“Yes,  my liege.” Horsecrippler and Brambleberry said in unison. They picked Devilsclaw up, back on his feet, and walked him down another hallway. His new home was a chamber deep underground beneath the palace.
Brambleberry took Devilsclaw’s bound hands and hastily untied them. Devilsclaw massaged his sore wrists. Horsecrippler recited an ancient, gutteral spell, and the scroll of silence fell from Devilsclaw’s lips, and burned itself off in a wisp of crimson smoke.
“Thank you.” Devilsclaw gasped. He still resented his captors, but hi was relieved to finally move and speak freely again.
“Silence, little weed.” Horsecroppler snapped.
“Excuse me?” Devilsclaw bristled. Nobody had ever insulted him like this before. At least, not too his face. Sure, the Thorn Empire was invasive and all-consuming. But to be called a weed was the ultimate humiliation.
“You heard me. Sit down and be quiet. You Thorns are so barbaric. Even a prince like you.” Horsecrippler scoffed.
“It’s you Wildflowers who are savages! You ambushed me, and now I’m your prisoner!”
“Yes, we captured you. But we didn’t kill you. We didn’t even maim you. We have nothing to gain from torturing a weak little sapling like yourself. We’re holding you hostage for ransom. We need your money more than we need you.”
“But-“
“And we took only you. You were the only valuable one. Tarragon has lost all her former status, glory, and riches. Her brother, the former king Basil, is now a common soldier, as lowly as myself and Brambleberry. Dandelion and Bitterclover are merchants. Their modest fortunes wouldn’t even be worth the trouble of kidnapping them. But you? Emperor Tribulus and Widow Witch Belladonna will pay a fine price for your head.”
“Joke’s on you. My father hates me. And the merchants will help Tarragon find me.”
Horsecrippler cackled. “Your father loves you, at least as an heir to his empire and legacy, if nothing else. That alone is worth a prince’s ransom. Or perhaps it will be your beloved mystic, Sagebrush, will pay for your safe return. Or your lover, Tarragon, who you said will find you anyway. But even if she and the merchants find you, they’ll still have to pay the price to have you back.”
“Thorn warriors would have captured all, or captured the prince and killed the rest. But we Wildflowers show some sophistication and restraint, a testament to our virtuous chivalry.”  Brambleberry bragged.
Devilsclaw paused. He remembered the legends, tales, and stories about valiant Thorn warriors, like his grandmother, Woodspider, who was notoriously ruthless in battle. In his heart, Devilsclaw knew that Horsecrippler and Brambleberry were right about Thorn military tactics, thought he hated to admit it.
“Here’s your rations, damn it.” Horsecrippler threw a flask of water and a loaf of bread on the ground at Devilsclaw’s feet. Horsecrippler slammed the barred door shut and locked Devilsclaw in the cell.

The Fae Court - Military:
The Fae Court of the Wanderer, is many things... and thanks to its not-so-insignificant interest in remaining armed and protected, situated as it is mainly within a storied citadel at the heart of a magical mountain... surrounded by hundreds of acres of magically potent fae-monster-infested woodlands, and separated into its own fragmented shard of reality in the Void between Worlds to boot, it is no surprise that the Martial Branch is what it is - a loose collection of well-focused and extremely talented - or perhaps dangerous - individuals all fitted under a flexible-yet-effective hierarchy and honed to a singular goal - protecting the Court, and not only in its many members or unique territory.
Knight(s): Eerie Somby (Head) [ @dethdvncer ], Leanna von Braun (Reserve) [ @automaton-otto ] As much paragons of might as effective leaders, as much one-man-armies as exemplars of the values of the Court (in theory at least), the Knights are the top of the rankings for the Court's military, and the Tip of the Spear when open battle becomes inevitable to protect it from those who would harm it or its many members. Currently, there is only one Active knight, and thus their leadership is not truly in question, but the differentiation between 'Head' Knight and other Knights will perhaps one day be tested. As powerful and deadly as they are to face one-on-one, any and all Knights of the Court of the Wanderer are technically those most heavily or closely sworn to the Lord of the Court itself - as in many ways they are one of the foremost faces of the Court by virtue of their position(s).
Marshal(s): 'Hiegau' of the Black Dogs [ @lookthedevilintheeye ] A more mixed and indirect, if no less important rank just under the Knights, a Marshal of the Fae Court of the Wanderer is effectively meant to fill two roles interchangeably - logistics officer and organizer during peace, and field-commander during wartime. While strong in their own right as a prerequisite, being a Marshal is less about being able to fight so much as being able to Lead and keep one's wits in any sort of struggle - be it maintaining standards and assignments for the many Rangers and Guards in the court, or leading them to battle against deadly odds and winning without major losses. There is only one Marshal position filled at the moment, and the Lord of the Court is eager to see another rise to the position - be it from within the Court's current ranks or otherwise.
Ranger(s): Yuugo [ @heroesxdemons ], Ulan 'La Brújula' of Tangway [ @sins-of-the-sea ], Finn Mertens [ @finncomet ] Rangers are by far the most mixed and flexible of the members of the Martial Branch of the Court, regardless of their skills. By nature, the rank of Ranger is not one of leadership but nonetheless is a position of merit and importance, as Rangers are effectively Operatives ideal for assignments of great difficulty or importance to more actively guard the Court... not only its members, but its interests and investments, even if by occasionally unsavory means. Rangers are not Knights, but rather Spies, Assassins, Bounty-Hunters, and Specialists of many kinds and fields - far from defenseless in a straight-up fight, but generally those who favor tactics and methods other than full-frontal combat to fulfill their objectives. Current rangers include - in no particular order of seniority - an expert in hunting and subduing even the toughest of monsters, an expert assassin and tracker with exceptional skill in stealth and reconnaissance, and an in-training powerhouse of an adventurer learning new skills to better round-out his repertoire in more than simple combat.
Guard(s): Theodore 'Teddy' Augustus Ramsel [ @bleedinghearth ], Mortem [ @cursedfortune ], Nikki Eryl Faden [ @wiildhearrted ] Guards are technically the lowest rank in the military-hierarchy of the Fae Court, but in many ways they remain the backbone of more than just the defenses of the Court and the Halls it is seated within. While in times of war they are both soldiers and the last lines of defense should the Halls be attacked, in times of peace any Guard of the Court is expected to have other duties to help them serve and protect those they have sworn to defend: One such guard happily serves as a de-facto daycare worker in his day-to-day life in the Court, another inspects and maintains the many Runic protections and Wards in and around the Halls, yet another extends her patrol-duties to the wild, monster-infested forests surrounding the Mountain and serves as a Game Warden of sorts to control and maintain the natural defenses and resources the forests offer. While not expected to be front-line soldiers except as a last resort, there is no real requirement or expectation of strength or power to the role, other than simple diligence and an understanding of what might be asked of a Guard in times of need - it is therefore one of the easiest positions to enter and maintain in the Court.

Hriob is just sitting in the Library, going over some old texts and tomes, humming to himself as he eats from a basket of citrus... one hand turning pages as the other handles the fruit, not paying attention to anything else...
Tumblr media
"...Oops, almost dripped a bit, need to be more careful-"
Now he's just casually licking the juice off his elbow for a good minute before he resumes his studies. Its not like anyone's watching, is there?

The Fae Court - Leadership:
In regards to the Fae Court of the Wanderer, the rising star - or blight - upon the political, trade, and military landscapes of several worlds and realms, little is known by most about what really goes on within the Halls of the Mountain King where they are situated... much less how the Court is run beyond the Fae Lord's leadership. In truth, while it is for all intents and purposes a 'Royal Court', the organization is split into five different 'Branches' under Hriob based on focus and job description: an Administrative Branch to handle archives and trade, a Logistics Branch to run day-to-day issues such as supplies, crafting, and maintenance, a Medical Branch to care for and maintain the well-being of the Court's members, an Arcane Branch to investigate, invent, and deploy masterworks of magic and alchemy, and a Martial Branch to protect the interests and members of the Court via special operations as much as open combat.
Fae Lord: Hriob Riebe Zagel [ @hriobzagelthewanderer ] Founder and Leader of the The Fae Court of the Wanderer, Hriob is many things to many people... Teacher, Sage, Guardian, Force of Nature, Warrior, Masterwork Enchanter, Hero, Villain, Nuisance, Trickster... However, however talented and powerful he may be, he is only one individual in this, and he no longer wishes to do it alone. The Court is as many things as he is; paramilitary task force, information broker network, political lobbying group, cunning trade partner, principality-sized kingdom, supernatural humanitarian aid organization... whatever the world(s) need it to be.
Lady-in-Courting: Sacara Valas [ @thelittlestdemon ] Currently the new Goddess of Order taking over for her Mentor, Ma'at, Sacara is arguably not a part of the Court... yet. However, she is in a growing serious relationship with the Lord Hriob. Assuming the trend continues and their courtship progresses to a proper engagement, all the command and leadership - and all the privileges and responsibility that entails - will also be shared between the Lord and Lady of the Court accordingly. As far as one can tell, this is a pointedly purposeful arrangement on Hriob's behalf: in part to show his trust and seriousness in pursuing her hand, and in part a wager on her character that she would take it as seriously as her own pre-existing duties while still using that opportunity to grow even brighter in his eyes.
Advisor & 2nd-in-Command: Amata 'The Weaver' [ @entwinedfates ] The premiere workaholic of the Court, Amata - formerly known as Claudia before she managed to escape a fate worse than death - is at the heart of the organization in more ways than one, and more ways than one may think. Every badge of office or alliance handed out by the court has a shard she can connect to, every change in the timelines can and will be noticed and mapped out by her prescience, every individual in the Halls is gently observed by her many senses... even if she rarely acts on it other than as a messenger for Hriob, Amata is one of the most proactive managers in the Halls, if not all existence. Hopefully as the head of the Administrative Branch of the Court her underlings will rise to the challenge of simply keeping up with her, if not helping lessen her workload.
Stewardess & 3rd-in-Command: Solita Rasier [ @nostomannia ] In many ways the polar opposite of her direct superior and friend Amata, Solita is nothing if not ruthlessly focused and competent... when she wishes to be. As head of the Logistical Branch, and as such the day-to-day tasks and support for the rest of the court, the success of the Court is as much on her shoulders as anyone else's, and if nothing else her successes so far managing the affairs of the Halls has proven Hriob's trust in her to be fully validated. Whether or not her antics on the side, causing headaches for her coworkers and employer alike, are worth that subtle efficiency, is another question entirely - one that few seem to want to openly take a stance on.
Head Healer & 4rd-in-Command: Ellyn Bythe [ @thelittlestdemon ] Formerly a Nurse under the direction of Ma'at in her famous hospital clinic, Ellyn has been given command over the Medical Branch of the court, plying her experience in handling troublesome patients, organizing other medical workers of many specialties, and mixing modern medical science with supernatural healing methods to provide the best care possible for the many, often troubled and scarred individuals within the organization. She remains good friends with her Aunt-in-Law Senea, now her colleague in the Arcane Branch, and enjoys her change-of-career from Medical Worker to Medical Director - even if she often still gets to play Physician more often than not.
Head Knight & 5th-in-Command: Ávrá 'Eerie' Sombry [ @dethdvncer ] By far one of the most dangerous individuals Hriob has ever managed to meet, much less befriend, Eerie is... probably one of the most antisocial and no-nonsense people within the Martial Branch of the Court... much less the Court in its entirety. Nonetheless, in terms of tactical understanding and sheer martial skill alike, the taciturn enby has proven time and time again to not only have the Fae Lord's trust in being his 'big dangerous knife', but also in directly championing the same values and causes that Hriob himself holds important - both on and off the field of battle.
Court Witch/Court Mage & 6th-in-Command: Bianka [ @pathomannia ] & Senea Tabitha Bythe [ @shemustbemagic ] In a rather unusual move on the Fae Lord's part, the Arcane Branch of the Court is... less an organized department of calm and stoic mystical masters, and more a half-crazed and eclectic skunkworks full of equally unhinged but highly varied 'experts' of myriad temperaments and backgrounds. Following this trend, 'leadership' is more or less split equally between the resident Kleptomaniac Immortal Mage, and the Idolan Feline Witch... which tends to mean they cause chaos and argument constantly without a designated project to collaborate on. Whether Hriob arranged this is a team-building test, a cruel stratagem to make sure the Arcane Branch remains reliant on himself for direction, or simply to see who would come out on top when the dust finally settles, is anyone's guess.

[So far, I have touched upon how I have structured my blog's 'primary' AU's (not counting ships as most of them are sub-verses in each setup), and how they are based on Tarot cards thus far:
The Fool, for Hriob at his 'baseline' on his own, as well as covering the majority of his ship-verses as per multi-shipping standards.
The Emperor, for Hriob as the head of his own Fae Court, and unwittingly setting himself up to realize sudden realizations about himself with the aid of those he enlists. [Essentially a Political Fantasy AU revolving around alliances, intrigue, and preparations for a potential apocalypse, but its also the only verse to eschew multi-shipping rules as a potential polycule situation for reasons of drama and hilarity.]
The Hanged Man, for Hriob as a humble high-school teacher by day, and a masked Fae vigilante by night in a setting that ditches his ancestral home to join one city or another [Possible options include Gotham and Japan, but will be sub-divided by additional tags accordingly].
The Tower, a.k.a. the 'Sinister AU', for Hriob in a 'Bad End' where his mother died, and he took it rather hard... to the point of shunning the outside world entirely and taking a near-flagellant approach to his own life in the ruins that he calls home. [Heavily involving the absence of @melodiadraconis's Lyth and incarceration of one of @shatteredwastes's many AUs of the Jumper, aka Gaolbird].
[Other Cards may be planned already in varying stages of preparation, However, I am considering taking advantage of one aspect of Tarot-reading to help inspire/open up even more AU's - the aspect of an 'Inverted' card, where the meaning of the card is reversed or turned on its head... though it is easy to assume this means 'worse', it not usually a case of 'normal means good and reversed is bad'. However, what that means for Hriob and the blog is interesting:
The Fool - Reversed, Unplanned, but likely a verse where Hriob as-we-know-him never came to be, and Krakonos still continues on as the Mountain King without incident.
The Emperor - Reversed, for Hriob as a member of Gaki's Court in a timeline where they never broke up [reference to @nomercyleft and one of their AU's - and ironically part of another polycule].
The Hanged Man - Reversed, Unplanned, but likely for Hriob in an Urban setting not as a teacher or vigilante, but more of a pure Celebrity, likely an actor and investor of some kind [Again unplanned but likely using the same city-setting-specific tag system].
The Tower - Reversed, for Hriob starting in the parameters of the 'Sinister AU', but leading to a confrontation with a certain grieving empress that leads to a renewal of his former relationship with her [once again heavily involving yet another AU with @nomercyleft].
[Again, the second set is mainly under-construction still, but have a lot of groundwork settled for at least a handful to get the ball rolling. I fully intend to extend things further across the Arcana. Some plans are as follows:
The Devil, A verse where Hriob loses and Owen wins in their little tug-of-war for the fate of the world, resulting in him being reincarnated into the new world with... more baggage than anyone involved would have asked for. [Technically another nomercyleft verse but actually focusing on characters in @thelittlestdemon's blog].
The Star, for a verse in the future involving the version of Amelia known as The Seeker, aka Lillium... and the newest reincarnation of Hriob's spiritual lineage, a young boy named Casimir, in her care [yet another collaborative verse with the many versions of the star of @shatteredwastes].
[I admit that some of these have been in the works for over a year without much opportunity to focus on them, and others are rather fresh ideas from recent plotting sessions with my many friends and compatriots over on Discord, but all the same I hope this little sneak peek gets me more of a foundation to get my Writing New-Year's-Resolution started, and get more of you on-board with planning and starting a lot of these verses soon!]

"Hello, I would like to make an announcement? ...especially to help change topics from... whatever was going on earlier today... I have great news for all within the organization referred to as The Court of the Wanderer - negotiations which have taken place in relative secrecy over the last few months have finally come to a unanimously gratifying resolution..."
Tumblr media
"The Court is proud to announce that a long-term deal has been finalized with the Hereditary Inter-dimensional Gnomish Worker's Union - in return for a wide range of benefits including the renovation and restoration of heritage sites throughout the Halls of the Mountain King, Full Medical coverage, Room and Board, and Extended Vacation Hours, in return for full employment on-site within said Halls as Architects, Mechanics, Craftsmen, Assistants to all our Divisions, and General Workers. Work is underway to restore the Kingdom Under the Mountain to some measure of its former glory, while embracing new changes and advancements to better strengthen ourselves, as we grow forth from the bone and ash of what once was to reach new heights together."
"We will keep all relevant parties, members, and allies alike informed as further structural changes are made to the Halls and the Court alike moving forward, please look forward to the future together, I know I will..."

"...For all intents and purposes, any Badges of Office within the Fae Court follow what I am going to call 'Comm Badge' rules- they track their location and the location of the one they are assigned to, and have a low-level 'awareness' of their surroundings and general state-of-being of their assigned person."
Tumblr media
"This is, however, Limited by design - we are not recording you, we are not spying on you, we are only keeping tabs in order to make sure everyone involved is safe and reachable in the event of an emergency - and to be frank, there is a fine line between knowing someone is on the can and waiting for them to finish before talking, and staring them down like some kind of deranged asshole waiting for them to speak up. If you decide to answer the call WHILE doing that all, that is your problem - and arguably you making it everyone else's problem - which we kindly ask you to refrain from doing. Ever."

"So... it has been some time, but we are reaching a new threshold and peak within our organization. However, I do not wish to discuss business with my Court today, so much as celebration - It is soon to be a time of celebration as the world reaches the end of the month of December - and as much as no two celebrations are truly the same, there are so many similar celebrations for the Winter Solstice or near it, that it is hard to deny that overlap may be inevitable, or not entirely undesirable in as disparate and varied a group as ours."
Tumblr media
"Therefore and thusly, I wish to announce that until the Eve of the New Year, all members, wards, employees, allies, and associates of the Court of the Wanderer - as well as their guests - are welcomed to join a series of ongoing Festivities - Mainly Yule, but all who wish to share their own celebrations and cultures are invited, no, encouraged to do so! Please do not hesitate to ask myself or your department heads if you need help with logistics, planning, or requisitions for any such accommodations for your contributions, and I hope to see everyone merry very soon!"

[This is a mild Event Announcement - for the rest of December (and knowing my slow-to-reply ass, January as well) anyone with participating RPCs/Blogs in the Fae Court Verse on this blog - either as Court Members or as Allies to the Court - are invited to participate in a Holiday 'Potluck' sort of Cultural Event, where all participants get to bring in not only food, but other aspects of celebrations such as decorations, festivities, practices, and more, all in the name of sharing their IC heritage and culture between everyone present.]
[An IC post will be made soon-ish for Hriob himself to announce the festivities, but for now consider this an OOC Interest Tracker and Primer of sorts.]

"...so damn busy..."
Tumblr media
There are gnomes to assign and organize positions and pay for, dozens of Yule gifts being made and packaged, hundreds of hours of intelligence and reports to review, dozens of projects to prepare and finish, adjustments to procedures and plans to be made all around, and of course managing HR concerns for the Court overall as so many changes and additions to the roster are made.
Poor guy is swamped... but there's a method to his madness, at least. Yule hopes to be a period for him to celebrate, and finally take a fucking break.

He is feeling everything his court members are feeling now... EVERYTHING.
He needs a quiet spot or an understanding friend to shack up cool down with for a day or two at this rate.

@finncomet replied to your post: “Are you okay, dude? That’s some hardcore thinking right there.”
"...to be fair, by that metric, I doubt I will ever be 'okay', Finn. Mine is a brain that, while distracted or overly focused on one thing in particular from time to time, staunchly refuses to simply turn itself off."
Tumblr media
"...clearly, there are some benefits to this, especially when I need to out-think my adversaries... but the downsides are also readily apparent, it seems."
