Has anyone done a fic where it’s like modern au or the 2000s, something where steve wasn’t a teenager in 80s or at least really young
So anyway he’s driving along the road one night and sees a kid about his age walking along, looks kind of dated with his curly mullet and leather jacket and unbuttoned shirt but maybe he just came back from a costume party or something. And Steve, being the good guy he is, pulls up to the guy and asks if he wants a ride home, is maybe looking for something more when he gets a look at the guys face and realizes what a knockout he is.
And the guy is charming too, smirking at him and accepting the ride, tho there’s something a little sad in his eyes, a little haunted.
Steve asks questions like his name (billy hargrove) and “haven’t seen you around here before, you from here?” (No, California)
He doesn’t really offer up much else and he doesn’t ask Steve about himself, which…is fine, Steve guesses.
But when he asks billy where he should drop him off billy gets a little panicked look in his eye. Repeats that he can’t go home, his dad’s gonna be so mad, he can’t go home.
And Steve’s like okay….quarry then? Because that’s his spot when he doesn’t want to go home, wants to avoid his parents.
Billy agrees and Steve drives them to the water. Parks the car. Steve tries to strike up conversation but Billy’s reluctant to say anything. When Steve, going out on a limb, suggests a late night swim, Billy agrees.
So they strip off their clothes. Steve runs to the water, dives in. Waits for billy to come but…he never does. And Steve can’t see him on the shore, the only light coming from the beemers headlights. He calls out for him, but nothing. Steve’s shoulders sag, he swims back to shore, assumes he’s been had, billys left to go…wherever. Steve sulks and goes home
It’s not until the next morning he gets in his car and notices a leather jacket in his backseat. Which…weird. But he’s kinda hopeful. He can use this to see billy again. He’s just…gotta find him
Problem is when he asks around, no one’s heard of a billy hargrove. It’s not until someone mentions knowing a Neil Hargrove that Steve finally has a lead. So he tracks him down to a house on a cherry lane. Knocks on the door. An angry old man answers, demanding to know what Steve wants
Timidly, Steve asks if a billy lives there? Or if the man knows anyone named Billy Hargrove?
And the man goes cold. Stares Steve down in a way that has him wanting to run for the hills.
The man says “Billy was my son. And he died years ago.”
And that…can’t be right. Steve just saw him last night so… he has his jacket for christs sake
But before he can say anything else the door is slammed in his face.
Later that day Steve’s hanging out with his best friend Robin. Tells her about the weird interaction he had today. And Robin loves a good mystery so she drags Steve to the library or pulls up her laptop and searches the obituaries for a billy hargrove and sure enough…July 4, 1985 a billy hargrove died in a car crash along the same stretch of road Steve found him on the previous night. And right there in black and white is the face of the boy Steve had in his passenger seat
Steve doesn’t know what the hell to think

Hawkins High Prom, 1985
Howdy gang, it's been a minute. This is a quick little oneshot I whipped up for the lovely @imnotokayhru based on this post of theirs. TW for a tiny bit of internalized homophobia and bad teenage dancing lol
The Munson Doctrine does not allow for attending high school prom, especially without a date. Jeff had just begged so hard, and Eddie Munson was, at his core, a weak man. Secretly, he’d been hoping to see what prom was like, and it turned out that it sucked hard. So now he was here, surrounded by crepe paper and sweaty teenagers, and listening to Cyndi Lauper and Blondie.
Jeff’s date, a quiet girl from his biology class, had dragged him onto the dance floor almost an hour ago. Gareth had been too young to go to prom, and Grant had flat-out refused, so now Eddie was stuck here by himself watching the teenage population of Hawkins try to moonwalk. Hello, therapy.
A third glare from the chaperoning Mrs. Click forced Eddie to move from his hiding place near the wrestling mat. He had been slowly revolving around the room, doing his best to keep away from Higgins, but apparently his tactic of standing completely still and looking bored was suspicious to the teachers for some reason.
Just then, Mr. Mundy abandoned his post by the door to the boys’ locker room, yelling “Hands, Hagan! Let me see your hands!” as he went.
Spotting his chance, Eddie dodged a decidedly drunk Tammy Thompson and hurried into the locker room. He breathed out a sigh of relief as the door shut behind him and muffled the DJ.
He checked his watch. Still too early for the damn thing to be over. He debated trying to escape through the vents briefly before realizing that he wouldn’t know which direction to crawl in and might die up there. It would be really funny if his corpse fell out of the ceiling during O’Donnell’s class, though.
Eddie gazed at the lockers for another moment before inspiration struck. Hadn’t he sold to all these asshole jocks one hundred times? Surely, at least one of them kept their stash in their gym locker.
He hurried over to the first locker and pinched his nose, anticipating the smell of sweaty jock straps and unwashed ass to assault him. His senses were pleasantly surprised when the locker betrayed only a faint floral scent that vaguely reminded him of his mom.
Eddie rifled through the contents. Extra socks, a basketball uniform, and a pair of Adidas sat at the bottom. The top shelf had deodorant, hair gel, a tin of moisturizer, and a can of Farrah Fawcett hair spray. Eddie snorted. No weed, just the sports paraphernalia of a very fussy member of the basketball team.
“Uh, hey. That’s my locker you’re stealing from.”
Eddie swore loudly and straightened up, smacking his head against the shelf of the locker. Tears sprang to his eyes and he staggered backward, clutching the top of his head. His would-be thievery victim started to apologize, and that was when Eddie looked up and recognized the very famous head of hair.
“Is it still stealing if I was doing my civic duty and just planning on removing any illegal substances I found during my snooping?” Eddie muttered as he rubbed the spot where a bruise was already forming.
“Unless you became a cop and didn’t tell anyone, I’m pretty sure theft is still theft,” Harrington snorted.
“I’m no pig, Steve-O. Just a guy looking for weed.”
“In that case, let’s try Hagan’s locker,” Harrington said as he crossed to the other side of the locker room. He let out a little “Aha!” of triumph and tossed a bag across the room that Eddie caught with one hand.
He slumped down with his back against Harrington’s locker and stuck his feet out in front of him, trying to ignore the way the tiles looked. Harrington crossed the room, hesitating for only a second before he flopped down next to Eddie, not quite touching, but sitting close enough that it would be easy to pass the joint Eddie was carefully rolling between the two of them.
“I’m assuming you’re planning on sharing?” Harrington quirked an eyebrow at him. He didn’t seem to notice that his very nice black suit was in contact with the biohazard that was the Hawkins High boys’ locker room floor.
“Of course, my liege. I always share the spoils of war with my fellow countrymen,” Eddie quipped. He passed the joint to Steve for the first hit, digging in his pocket for his lighter.
His companion took a deep breath, letting the smoke sit in his lungs before breathing out and passing the joint to Eddie. Eddie tried not to notice the way the wisps of smoke curled from between his lips and took a drag.
“Would’ve thought you would have your own weed for this thing, Munson. Isn’t this kinda your territory?”
Eddie scoffed. “I may be repeating my senior year but I’m not an idiot. Higgins would lose his mind if he caught me dealing at prom.”
Steve threw his head back and laughed. His already-nice face was so much nicer when he laughed. It made him look younger, much less like the haggard boy who sometimes showed up to their shared history class with dark circles under his eyes.
They sat in companionable silence for a few minutes, swapping the joint back and forth. Eddie picked at a hole in the leg of the dress pants Wayne had lent him, wondering why Harrington was being so nice to him and if he could push his luck.
“So, Farrah Fawcett, huh?” he said with a wry grin. Steve’s cheeks flamed with color.
“Hey, I’m swearing you to secrecy here. All of this-” he gestured at his ridiculous poofy hair, “-is only achieved with a very specific routine, okay? This stuff is the real deal.”
“Your secret is safe with me,” Eddie grinned. “Speaking of secrets, why are you hiding in the locker room when you should be out there, in your element?”
Steve frowned. He actually looked uncomfortable.
“Well, my date started dancing with Hargrove when I went to piss, so…” he trailed off. “Guess I figured I’d wait out the dance in here while she had fun. This really isn’t my element anymore, anyway.”
Eddie raised his eyebrows. “How did you pick a girl stupid enough to ditch you, Harrington? Did you ask your cousin or something?”
Steve pressed his lips together, suppressing a smile.
“No, jackass. I think she just thought it would make her look cooler to come with a date and I was available. Whatever, it’s fine, I didn’t even like her that much. She wore this ridiculous dress that pushes her boobs together so hard it looks like they’re going to pop out.”
Eddie cackled at that. He could already feel the contented stupor from the weed seeping into his system.
“If it makes you feel better, I came alone. Or, I guess I came as the third wheel who can’t dance so he got left by the snack table,” he shrugged.
Steve glanced at him out of the corner of his eye.
“What do you mean, you can’t dance?” he asked. “Everyone can dance. You just have to sway around in a circle with your arms around somebody. Have you never slow-danced at a school dance before?”
Eddie shook his head. “C’mon, Harrington. Nobody wants to dance with the freak.”
Steve slapped his knee and stood up abruptly. He held his hand out to Eddie, who stared up at him from the ground.
“Would you like to dance with me?”
Eddie gaped up at him. Harrington actually looked nervous.
“Be serious. You don’t want to dance with me. What, is Hagan hiding in the showers, ready to punch me for agreeing to this like some queer?” Eddie snapped.
Steve’s face fell a bit, but he still grabbed Eddie’s hand and hauled him to his feet.
“I’m not even friends with Tommy Hagan anymore, Munson. Come on, I like this song.”
The intro to George Michael’s Careless Whisper filters through the door to the locker room. Eddie hesitantly wraps his hands around Steve’s neck and shivers when a large pair of hands settle at his waist.
They swayed together slowly. Eddie couldn’t bring himself to look Steve in the eyes, so he busied himself with counting the moles on his neck. George Michael crooned about his guilty feet as they revolved around the locker room.
“See. This isn’t so bad, is it?” Steve whispered into his hair. They had drifted unconsciously closer as they danced, and now they were only a few inches apart.
He pulled back a bit to force Eddie to make eye contact with him. Eddie forced the blush that was fighting to rise to his cheeks back down and smiled.
“I would say it’s the best dance I’ve ever had, but I don’t have anything to compare it to,” he admitted.
“Well, I do, and I agree,” Steve said. “Don’t sell yourself short, you’re a very good dancer.”
Eddie grinned.
“Don’t let me get too cocky, Stevie. I might think you actually like me.”
“And if I said I did?” Steve asked seriously.
“I-I’d tell you that you probably don’t know what you’re talking about,” Eddie stammered.
Their eyes met again. Steve had a worried little crease between his eyebrows that Eddie registered as very cute in the back of his mind. They continued to sway even as Eddie’s hands began to sweat. Steve’s expression cleared suddenly, as if he had made up his mind about something.
“Stop me if this is, I mean, if I’m doing the wrong thing, okay?” he murmured.
He lifted the hand that had been on Eddie’s waist and cupped his cheek. Eddie felt his heart fall out of his chest and settle somewhere near his stomach. Steve’s eyes fluttered shut and he started to lean forward.
Tonight the music seems so loud, I wish that we could lose this crowd.
Eddie’s lips parted in a hastily stifled gasp as Steve Harrington kissed him. His own eyes slid shut as their lips met. Everything melted away: the smell of the locker room, the harshness of the fluorescent overhead lights behind his eyelids, even his own nerves squirming in his stomach. There was nothing but the press of Steve’s soft lips against his own and the pressure of his hand against Eddie’s face.
Far too quickly, Steve pulled back. Eddie stared at him, wide-eyed with shock.
“That was okay, right? That I did that?” Steve asked softly.
“Uh, um, yes yeah definitely. Definitely okay.”
Steve grinned at him. It was so infectious that Eddie couldn’t help smiling back. He was still cradling Eddie’s face gently in his warm hand.
“Then would it be weird if I asked you if you wanted to sneak out of here with me and drive around for a bit? I don’t really feel like going back to prom,” Steve said.
“I’m all yours, big boy,” Eddie replied breathlessly.
Steve twined their fingers together and leaned in to press a chaste kiss to his lips. Then he tugged Eddie toward the door, laughing. It was the most beautiful thing Eddie had ever seen.

They're so cute I love them so much. After this they drove around Hawkins for hours, singing along to the radio and holding hands and other sappy things. Anywhosies as always let me know if you want to be added to (or removed from) my permanent Steddie tag list where I bother you anytime I write anything about these two boys <3

Bye Bi Steve
Thank you @nburkhardt and @doubleb11 for the ideas on this fic! I hope you guys like it and please leave your thoughts in the comments!
Now with a Part 2!
~*~*~*~
All throughout his life, Steve has denied his interest in guys. He discredited his feelings for Tommy H. as friendship and placed his attraction to Billy as jealousy. He liked girls, had loved Nancy, so he couldn’t be interested in guys. Steve kept telling himself that all throughout high school, all throughout 1985, up until a random day in the summer of 1986.
It had been a shift just like any other, covering for Robin while she mooned over Vickie at the community pool. Steve was organizing tapes in the romance section in a way he knew would infuriate her when she came back when he heard the bell chime. “Welcome to Family Video, how can I-”
He stopped mid sentence when he saw it was Eddie. His hair was pulled back in a bun showing off the contours in his neck as well as a couple of piercings in his ears. His skimpy black T-shirt that showed off his scars and tattoos in equal measure did nothing to mute Steve’s attraction.
“Hey Big Boy, when do you get off? It’s hot as shit out today and I refuse to go to the community pool with all of the religious zealots and their mothers. Fancy sharing your pool with the rest of us peasants, my liege?” Eddie blinked up at him through his eyelashes.
Fuck, shit, fuck! This was not what Steve needed today!
Fortunately, his outward composure remained calm despite his internal crisis. “I work until 10 tonight,” Eddie groaned but Steve plowed through the interruption. “BUT, I can give you my house key so you can swim. You can bring the kids over and use the pool as long as you watch them, alright?”
Eddie nearly hopped up and down in excitement, “thanks Stevie! I knew I could count on you! I love you!”
He went to run out of the store but Steve called him back, “Eddie! I didn’t give you the key. Here, try not to make a mess please?”
“No promises, Stevie. Thank you!” Then, he pranced through the door and was gone with a squeal of the van’s brakes.
Very calmly, Steve walked to the door and flipped the open sign to closed. Then he turned the lights off and made his way to the dingy floor of the bathroom. It was there that he spent the next thirty minutes on the verge of consciousness, having a panic attack so brutal that he thought it might kill him. His entire life, he thought he only liked girls but just a moment of seeing Eddie looking so hot so effortlessly was enough to unravel everything he thought he knew about himself.
Once he wrapped his head around being attracted to Eddie (he’d seen monsters with faces that opened up like a flower filled with teeth, there were stranger things than finding a hot guy hot), he realized that he needed help. He couldn’t go to Eddie for obvious reasons and Robin was too busy to help him with his crisis. So he did the only thing he could think of… he called Nancy Wheeler.
Using the store phone at Family Video while hiding behind the counter was a low point for him but so was calling his ex-girlfriend to tell her that he might like guys. He waited for her to pick up the phone for what seemed like forever but was only a few seconds.
“Hello, Wheeler residence. This is Nancy.”
“Nance, it’s Steve. Can you come to the video store to talk? I’m kind of having a crisis and I need to talk to someone. Robin and Eddie are busy and I really need to talk to you because I think I might actually be going insane,” he rambled.
“Steve? Calm down, what’s going on? Aren’t you working right now?” Her voice filled with concern as she questioned him.
“Obviously not well! I had a crisis so I shut the door, it’s fine. Can you please come? Please, Nancy?” Steve was begging her but he hoped she wouldn’t hold it against him.
He heard her sigh and then, “fine, I’ll be there in five minutes. Just- hold on, okay? I’m sure everything will be fine.”
And so, he waited for five minutes in a sense of fake calmness. His hands were still shaking with leftover anxiety and sweat was dripping down his forehead from the stress but he was fine. He certainly didn’t jump a foot into the air when he heard a gentle knock on the door. When he peeked over the counter to see a confused and worried Nancy though, he calmed a little bit.
He unlocked the door and opened it just enough to pull her inside before slamming it closed and locking it again. “Steve, are you okay? You don’t look very good.”
He started pacing back and forth in front of her. “Okay so, I have something really important to tell you and it’s kind of a secret? Like if you tell the wrong person, it could get me killed. But I have to tell someone because I’m pretty sure I’m losing my mind.”
She put her hands on his shoulders and looked him in the eyes. “Steve, just tell me.”
“I think I like guys. Eddie specifically, I think I like Eddie.” They both stared at each other in silence. Nancy’s face was blank as she thought over his words and Steve’s heart only seemed to race faster at her nonchalance.
“Okay, is that it?” She asked him.
“What do you mean, ‘is that it’? I’ve been freaking out all day!”
“Steve, it’s okay that you like Eddie. Thank you for telling me and I’m glad you felt that you could trust me with this information. Why are you freaking out about that?” She reassured him.
“I like girls, Nancy! I can’t like Eddie!”
“Why not?” She asked with her eyebrow raised. “No one can tell you how you feel besides you, Steve. If you like Eddie, then you like Eddie. There’s nothing stopping you from liking girls and boys.”
“Nance, you have to be either gay or straight. There’s no in-between.” He said in frustration.
“Yes there is. I read an article about bisexuality, it’s when you’re sexually attracted to both girls AND guys. So if you like Eddie and still like girls, it sounds like you’re bisexual,” she explained to him.
Steve’s eyes widened but his voice was small when he whispered, “and that’s okay? It’s okay that I’m bisexual?”
Nancy gave him a soft smile, “of course, Steve. It’s perfectly fine to be bisexual. And I’m pretty sure that Eddie has a thing for you too.”
Steve grinned at her words and pulled her into a hug that she returned gently. “Thanks Nance, I needed that.”
“Of course. Things may be awkward between us but we’re still friends, Steve. And I meant it, I’m glad you felt safe enough to tell me.”
They talked for a few more moments and by the time she left, he felt a lot lighter. He was bisexual and that was okay.
~*~*~*~
It took a few more weeks of coming to terms with his sexuality before he could tell Robin and Eddie. Both of them had come out to him so he felt safe in the fact that they would support him whole-heartedly. Even then, it came out accidentally while watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show at their weekly movie night at the Harrington house.
“He’s hot, I’m digging the fishnets,” Steve said while throwing some popcorn in his mouth.
Both Eddie and Robin snapped their necks to look at him. Eddie looked a little hopeful while Robin looked offended. “Steve, you can’t just say that. Are you seriously making fun of our favorite movie?”
Eddie’s hopeful expression turned mutinous at her words and he scowled. “That’s not cool, man. We’re trying to share one of the most important movies in queer culture and you’re mocking him because he’s wearing fishnets? What, does that infringe on your fragile masculinity so much?”
Steve hurried to backtrack and set the bowl of popcorn down on his coffee table away from his flailing arms. “What, no! I seriously just think that Tim Curry in fishnets looks hot, I’m not making fun of anything!”
“You’re not gay, Steve,” Robin told him confusedly.
“I’m half gay! It’s called bisexual, it’s when you like guys and girls. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you guys about it, I was still wrapping my head around it…”
“What, you’re serious? Steve, that’s not a thing. Bisexual is what people say they are when they’re so much of a slut they’ll go for anything.” Eddie said, shaking his head.
Steve looked to Robin, hoping to get some reassurance but only received a scathing look in response. “Being bisexual isn’t a thing, Steve. It’s just what people call it when they pretend and try to hurt the people that are actually gay. I can’t believe you would do that.”
“I wouldn’t! I’m serious, I like both guys and girls. I’m not trying to hurt you guys or be a manwhore. I really am attracted to both. I thought you guys would be more understanding,” Steve’s voice trailed off at the end in hurt. He never even fathomed the idea that they wouldn’t accept him. Their support had been guaranteed in his mind so now that he didn’t have it, he didn’t know what to do.
Eddie scoffed, “Steve, you’re just confused. You have to be either gay or straight, there’s no inbetween. And you’re the biggest ladies-man I know. You like girls.”
Steve sighed. He felt like his best friends were attacking him for no reason. He finally found his people, felt safe and loved by them, and then ruined everything by being honest. He couldn’t believe that the people he loved and trusted the most were rejecting him.
“I just told you that I like both. Yeah, I do like girls. I love them, I think they’re great. But I also like guys. I don’t know why you guys aren’t accepting that, especially after I accepted both of you but I think you should leave.”
“Steve-” Robin tried to speak but he cut her off.
“If you guys can’t accept me for being bi, I think you should leave,” he said sternly. To his complete and utter heartbreak, they each picked up their things and walked to the door without another word.
Robin turned around just enough to tell him, “Steve, you’re just confused. You’ll get over it eventually and when you do, give me a call.”
And with that, she closed the door behind her.
Steve didn’t even try to stifle the sobs as the ‘Sweet Transvestite’ song played in the background. He rewound the tape on autopilot, tears streaming down his cheeks all the while. He’d just lost two of his best friends, two people that he’d gone through everything with, just because he was a little too different.
With tears still streaking down his face and sobs wracking his frame, he made his way to the phone perched on the wall. He dialed the Wheeler’s number in a haze and only came back to himself when he heard Nancy’s voice filter through.
“Hello, Wheeler residence. This is Nancy.”
“Nance,” he said, barely decipherable through his tears. “I told Eddie and Robin that I was bisexual and they told me that it wasn’t a thing! They left and I don’t think we’re friends anymore! After everything we went through, they left because I like guys and girls. What is wrong with me, Nancy?”
“Are you serious? They left just like that? Steve, listen to me. Nothing is wrong with you and you are valid in your feelings. Honestly, if they can’t accept you then they don’t deserve you,” She told him seriously.
“Nance, I don’t care if they deserve me or not. They’re all I have. The kids come and go, my parents hate me, and Hopper checks in sometimes but I can tell he has better things to do. Robin and Eddie are the only friends that I have consistently. And you I guess. But if I lose them, I lose everything.” Another sob tore from his throat and even Nancy started to tear up on her end of the call.
“Steve, no matter what, you have me. I know that’s not good enough but I’ll always be here for you. I’m going to go talk to them and fix this. Just relax and maybe call Hopper or one of the kids to come over to check on you, okay? I’ll handle this,” she reassured him.
“Okay, thanks Nance.”
“Of course, what are friends for?” And then the line went dead.
~*~*~*~
Nancy was livid. She couldn’t believe that two members of the Party, two of Steve’s best friends that had been through the same shit as the rest of them, would be so intolerant over who someone else was attracted to. Seeing a giant flesh monster made out of melted humans and a vindictive man that could kill teenagers in their own minds were fine but Steve liking guys and girls was too much? Ridiculous.
As soon as she hung up the phone with Steve, she grabbed her car keys, a cardigan, and her gun then made her way to the Buckley house. Eddie’s van wasn’t parked in front of it so she made her way to the Munson trailer next. Both Robin and Eddie were sitting on the stoop of the trailer and only barely glanced up when she pulled in front of them.
“Um, hey Nance. Can we help you?” Eddie asked her disinterestedly. Although, he became much more interested, and afraid, when she pulled her pistol from her car.
“Get in the trailer.”
“Okay, we’re going. What’s with the gun?” He stammered. Both he and Robin bolted inside the trailer and Nancy quickly followed.
“Nancy, please. We didn’t do anything! Are you being controlled by Vecna or something because you’re pointing a gun at us and we don’t know why. You’re our friend! You don’t want to kill us! Is your favorite song still Girls Just Want To Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper? I don’t know all the words but between Eddie and I, we can probably bring you out of it. Just don’t shoot us!”
“It’s not so nice to be betrayed by your friends, now is it?” She lowered the gun enough for them to relax before she continued her crusade. “Steve called me in tears today because his best friends, the people he trusted to accept him, rejected him and tried to call him confused when he said he was bisexual. Do you even know how much that hurt him? He called me three weeks ago having a crisis because he realized he liked a guy and didn’t know he could. After I explained it several times and assured him that it was okay, I told him that you guys would accept him. Not only did you guys trample all over his feelings, you’re also making me look like a liar. And I am not a liar.”
“Nancy-”
“No, Eddie! When you and Robin came out to the Party, we accepted you. You were nervous and scared to tell us but we all accepted you because someone’s sexuality doesn’t change who they are as a person. Steve was just as nervous to tell you that he was bisexual and you ridiculed him. What if we had done that to you when you told us? Eddie, what if Dustin had laughed in your face and told you that you had to be confused? Robin, what if Max had yelled at you and said that lesbians didn’t even exist? Whatever you imagine that would’ve felt like, Steve is feeling it right now.”
Tears were dripping down Robin’s face and Eddie had paled several shades. Both of them were at a loss of what to do and neither one could find any words to say.
In turn, Nancy dealt the final blow. “The worst part is that the reason he figured out he was bi was Eddie. You were his bisexual awakening and then you ridiculed him for it. He feels awful now and I don’t know if he’ll forgive you guys for this.”
Eddie’s face paled even further and Robin brought a hand up to her lips in shock. Nancy just shook her head, tucked her gun into her waistband, and walked back to her car. She’d done what she came to do and now she had an ex-boyfriend to comfort.

The Family Holiday Pairing: Eddie Munson x You Summary: It's December of 1985, and Evil Woman is ready to spend her first real Christmas with Eddie… why is he being weird about it? Contains: Christmas stuff, insecurity, love, a meaningful gesture, tears, being hopelessly devoted to Eddie Munson, a happy ending. Words: 1.6k
Tumblr media
"We're putting the tree up and decorating tonight. Probably end up drinking some hot chocolate and watching something Christmas-y. You in?"
You and Eddie had finally been sprung from detention, and thinking about tonight's festivities was the only thing that had kept you awake. The rest of the boys had escaped your cruel fate and gone home when they were supposed to, so it was just the two of you in the van now.
"You need help?"
"What, like 'oh please, big strong man, won't you come help us feeble women-folk put up this heavy plastic tree'?" you tease. "Don't NEED help, but we'd love for you to come hang out."
"Actually…" he licks his lips and concentrates on the road. "I think I might just go home tonight."
"What?" Eddie Munson, passing up Family Fun Time? And hot chocolate?!
"I'm, uh… I'm just really tired. Think I might be coming down with something."
You reach over to feel his cheek, which does look flushed and feel a little warm.
"Are you okay?" He hadn't said anything. Not that he'd been allowed to make a peep during the last hour, but he'd seemed fine at lunch.
"M'fine, just wanna sleep."
You watch him suspiciously as he turns onto your road. You know something's brewing in that twisted little mind of his, but you don't know what.
"Okay," you agree, deciding not to pry. Maybe he just needs a little time to think about whatever he's got going on, and he'll get over it on his own. He pulls into your driveway.
"You want us to wait and do it tomorrow?" It would probably require a little groveling, but you'd do it. You'd do anything for him.
"Nah, don't change your plans on my account."
"Okay," you say again, a little hurt. "If you change your mind, you know where we'll be."
"Don't wanna get you sick too."
"Eddie, you had your tongue down my throat just a few hours ago. That ship has sailed." You tilt your head and wait for a smile. He forces one that doesn't reach his eyes. Maybe he really is getting sick.
"Call me if you need anything?"
He nods. You lean across the van and kiss him on the cheek, then hop out and walk to the door. He doesn't start backing out of the driveway until you've got it open. But this is the first time in forever he hasn't come in with you. It feels strange. You don't care for it.
He didn't come that night, and he didn't call.
Your mother had asked about him, and you'd said he wasn't feeling well. Which, as far as you knew, was true. You thought of him the whole night, from the time you helped wind the lights around the tree, to hanging the stockings, to watching the marshmallows melt in your mediocre cocoa while some claymation special played in the background. Everything was better when Eddie was around.
He arrived the next morning to pick you up for school as usual, but still felt a little distant in the seat next to you. You let the boys ramble about the current campaign while you watched him out of the corner of your eye.
You made an effort to act normally throughout the day. Like nothing was wrong. Like he hadn't unexpectedly bailed on something he was supposed to be a part of. Like he wasn't being weirder than usual.
Despite your efforts to act normal, Eddie remained quiet. He nodded and let out a half-hearted laugh or two at your attempts to break him out of his funk on the ride home. When he pulled into your driveway, he didn't even turn off the van. The rest of the boys had gone to Jeff's to play video games. No one was home. Eddie should be jumping at the opportunity to spend some time alone with you. Unsupervised. Instead, he glances at you like he's waiting for you to get out.
You turn in your seat to face him.
"Alright. What's going on?"
"Nothing."
"Bullshit. Tell me what's going on."
"It's nothing."
"Edward."
He sighs.
You cross your arms. "I'm not getting out of this van until you tell me, so you better either start talking, or get fucking comfortable."
He turns off the ignition, then sits quietly for a moment.
"Don't you ever get sick of me hanging around all the time?"
"Nope. Try again."
"Doesn't your mom?"
"You are aware that she refers to you as her favorite child, correct?"
He huffs out an exasperated breath, and it fogs up the windshield in front of him.
"Look. I appreciate you including me. I really do. But Christmas is a family holiday. Like, THE family holiday."
"You ARE family, dummy."
"I'm not."
"You are. You're more family than most of the people I'm related to."
"That's not how it works."
"That is absolutely how it works. I chose you. WE chose you. Those other people are just assholes we happen to share DNA with."
"Look, just…" He grips the steering wheel. "I appreciate you trying to include me, but eventually you're all gonna get sick of me. I don't want to wear out my welcome."
Your heart sinks. Your annoyance fades. How has he not realized that he's your entire world?
"Eddie, you're always welcome, wherever I am," you tell him gently. "You're my favorite person in the world. I fucking love you. I want you with me all the time. Whether it's Thanksgiving, or Christmas, or a random Wednesday, or the day we get married."
He stares at his lap.
"What's it gonna take for you to realize how much you mean to me?"
He shrugs.
And then, you get an idea.
"Come with me."
You get out of the van, but he doesn't. You walk to his side and open the door.
"C'mon, I want to show you something."
He slides down and follows you with his feet dragging, like a big insecure baby. You kick off your boots and drop your jackets, and you take his hand and lead him to the living room. You come to a stop by the fireplace.
"Look."
He lifts his head and takes in the garland and the holiday-scented candles and the nutcracker and the four stockings…
You can see him re-count.
He looks to you with tears welling up in his eyes.
"Told you so."
Your mom has made him a stocking. It matches the ones you and your brother have had since you were babies. She's even stitched Eddie's name onto it. His stocking fits right in, just like he does.
He bursts into tears. He hides his face in his hands and sobs, and you wrap yourself around him the best you can.
You want to tell him that THIS is why you wanted him to come over last night. That you wanted your mom to see his face when he saw his stocking for the first time. That you wanted him hang it himself. But the lump in your throat won't allow it. So you hold him and let him cry and hope that he finally gets it: He's family. The best kind of family; the kind you all chose, because you all love him.
His eyes are red and puffy when he pulls away from you. You brush his hair away from his face, before the tears can dry and glue it to his skin. You don't know what to say. Apparently neither does he.
You take his hand and tilt your head toward the tree. You lead him to it and flip on the power strip. The tree comes to life. You cross the room and switch off the overhead light, letting the tree's colored bulbs fill the room with a warm glow.
You return to the tree and sit down in front of it, lie back, and maneuver your head underneath the branches.
"C'mere," you finally get out. Eddie sits on the floor beside you and copies your movements, his head coming to rest beside yours on the white blanket your mom has wrapped around the base. You reach for his hand and hold it tightly as you stare up at the inside of the tree.
"When I was a kid," you begin, finding your voice again in the familiar calm of the tree's glow, "I used to spend half the holiday season under the tree. Dad always insisted on a real one, but Mom fought him and switched to a fake one after an unfortunate incident involving sap in my hair. THAT was fun."
Eddie chuckles. You're so happy to hear that sound again. You lie there and hold his hand and stare up at the twinkling lights in a peaceful silence.
"I haven't had a stocking since my mom died."
"Really?" you ask, turning your head toward him.
"Mhm," he hums, still staring upward.
"Wayne wasn't a Santa Man?"
"No chimney in a trailer," he says matter-of-factly, like he's heard it a few times before. "Wayne said that's why Santa sometimes forgot to bring me stuff at Mom and Dad's house. Because they didn't have a chimney either, and Santa couldn't remember how to get in."
Wayne's solution brings a smile to your face.
"Did Santa figure out how to get in at Wayne's?"
"He left the presents on the porch," Eddie grins. "Me and Wayne would put out a can of beer and a bag of Fritos for him. He said Santa would want something salty after all those cookies."
You laugh. "Good thinkin', Wayne."
Eddie finally turns his head toward you.
"I love you."
"I love you too, Eddie."

This is the fic that I fought for 2 days, posted, trashed... and then took another run at and gave it a better ending, inspired by this thought from @munson-memories. 🥰

Jack eventually convinced the others to send him back to the Therapy Game. And even though Vlad had a (mostly) positive experience, they are so worried after Jack broke down when he returned from his last session.
Saiwa: "Be careful. Leave whenever you feel uncomfortable." Jack: "I will." Tiny Can beeped exitedly and started the Game.
Tumblr media
Jack was still locked up. But he kept himself from screaming 'OUT!' and tried to get himself together. This. Is. Just. A. Game. Breathe in through the nose and out through the muzzle. Just like Saiwa tought him. He managed to calm down a bit and looked around. There was NPC Barfolomew! And NPC Uncle Stefan on the stands! What a strange place. Is this a court hearing? They won't execute him, will they?
Tumblr media
NPC Barfolomew stood up: "Are you ready Boys?" A growl and a rattle from the cell next to Jack answered him ö.Ö' There is another wolf captured here. And from the stand Jack heard the crowd chant: "Wolfsbane! Wolfsbane! WOLFSBANE!!!" Just like last time. Barfolomew is obviously the bookmaker here.
Tumblr media
He opened their cells (finally!) and they stepped out. Jack looked around. Of course there is also an NPC Greg! He is so going to have a word with Tiny Can when he's back! At least there's no gallow or pyre.
Tumblr media
The Queen hissed: "Who is this pooch and why isn't he greeting his Queen?" Barfolomew: "Forgive him, Your Royal Highness! He probably grew up in the woods!"
Tumblr media
And to Jack: "Hey, Moonchild! Get yourself together!" And so Wolfsbane and Moonchild greeted the Queen and her entourage.
Tumblr media
Which consisted of no lesser than Noxee, Ji Ho and: Caleb! OMG! (The Boys met Caleb Vatore last Winter Solstice ^^') Even though Jack knows that these are only NPCs, he's so excited. Noxee! And Caleb! He already regrets that he left the game early last time. And Ji Ho looks so beautiful!
Tumblr media
Barfolomew went back to his table. Jack Moonchild and Wolfsbane stood opposite of each other. So these are wolf fights! Barfolomew shouted: "The bets are placed. Leeet's get ready to rrrumble!" And the crowd cheered and chanted their 'Wolfsbane!' fan chants...
Tumblr media
Wolfsbane hugged Jack Moonchild and whispered: "Don't worry, I'll go easy on you!"
Tumblr media
Caleb does not seem to like what he sees.
Tumblr media
Despite Wolfsbane's promise, it was a rough fight. But Jack Moonchild enjoyed it. He loves a good fight - and he's the Super Soldier after all :3
Tumblr media
Neither is giving anything away. Caleb's eyes are locked on the combatants.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
'Well, in the Euston Tavern you screamed it was your shout But they wouldn't give you service so you kicked the windows out They took you out into the street, kicked you in the brains So you walked back in through a bolted door and did it all again
At the sick bed of Cúchulainn we'll kneel and say a prayer And the ghosts are rattling at the door and the devil's in the chair, hey'
The Sick Bed of Cuchulainn - The Pogues I can't keep still when I hear this song! ^^'
Tumblr media
It was an equal fight but Jack Moonchild won in the end. And Caleb looks shocked. It seems he placed his bets on Wolfsbane.
Tumblr media
The Queen stepped down to congratulate Moonchild and extolled them for the enthralling fight. His beloved, beautiful Noxee. Best therapy ever! In this world he is not the damaged, mangled wolf with a bag full of disorders. Here he can show his talents and gather positive experiences in a safe surrounding. Good job, Tiny Can! And maybe, in this game, Noxee is not together with Greg and Jack can woo her and become her King! If Greg were her King, he would sit next to her, wouldn't he? Poor defeated Wolfsbane can't look pouting Caleb in his sulking eyes.

@steddiemas Day 31: New Year's Eve
Tumblr media
There was always a certain magic in the air on new year's eve. Steve could feel the bubble of excitement in the countdown and it almost felt like a clean slate washed over you as the fireworks brought in the new year. When he was little his parents would often take him to New York for the big celebration, his father often hosting a party. After they stopped returning home as often, Steve brought in the new year with Tommy and Carol getting drunk on his father's whiskey.
1983 he spent alone and hoped that 1984 would be better, it wasn't, well except for the kids coming into his life. 1985 saw him cuddled up in the living room with Robin watching the fireworks on tv, he hoped 1986 would be their year.
"Stevie, do you have plans for new year's?" Eddie had asked at Christmas dinner, Wayne had insisted he joined them when he heard Robin and the Hendersons wouldn't be in Hawkins this year. "Not really, Robin won't be back, I might just turn in early." He was kind of sad to be spending it alone this year.
"No! You've gotta have fun Steve! Come join us here, Rudy a couple doors down always lights up the best fireworks!" Eddie explained excitedly and who was Steve to say no to that face.
Steve had gotten to Eddie's around 8, a pack of beer and a warm smile on his face when Eddie answered the door.
"We've gotta get you your own key one of these days, Stevie, you're here enough." If that warmed Steve's heart that was his business.
Wayne wouldn't be back from work until 11, getting that holiday pay to help them through the rest of winter. The boys didn't mind, curled up on the couch watching movies, laughing and drinking beer. Steve felt a soft buzz from the alcohol but the butterflies were certainly because of the boy sitting across from him.
When Wayne got home they switched the TV to the countdown of the final hour of the year. Eddie moaned about the pop music they played but didn't seem to mind as much when Steve was pulling him up to dance around the trailer. Soon it was time to head outside with all the other neighbours to watch the fireworks.
"Here, Stevie, I know the perfect spot," Eddie said pulling Steve up to lay down on the trailer roof. They could see Rudy setting up the fireworks on the hill, sleepy looking kids still just staying awake gathered with their parents. The radio crackled as the last song finished and the countdown began.
Ten!
Steve could feel the magic start to fill the air, the new year was so close.
Nine!
He hoped that next year they'd all be safe, that next year would be their year.
Eight!
Next year he's going to make sure he spends it with Eddie, this has certainly been his favourite new year's eve.
Seven!
He turns away from looking at the hill to the other boy to find him already looking at him, there's something in his eyes.
Six!
"I'm glad you're here this year, Stevie."
Five!
"I'm glad I'm here with you, Eds."
Four!
Eddie's face is holding a soft smile and his eyes flick down to Steve's lips.
Three!
Oh, that's what that magic was.
Two!
Steve took a chance and lent forward, pressing his lips softly to Eddie's who immediately pushed back against him smiling.
One!
Fireworks went off behind them but they didn't care as they pulled away, twin smiles on their faces. Yeah, 1987 was going to be their year.

'BUT YOU WERE STILL GONE, GONE, GONE.’
STARCOURT MALL. 1985.
Tight grips bruise each of your arms, your head hangs as you watch the floor pass behind you.
Your heel is almost lost somewhere, but you’re thrown onto a chair before it can come off.
Your name is gasped out by a voice before someone else repeats it. Your hair is gripped and head pulled up as your eyes land on Robin and Steve. Another person works on the leather bounds around your wrist.
Robin looks fine, a couple of bruises on her knees.
But Steve looks like he was beaten an inch from his life.
You wince a bit, glaring at the man. “They’re tight enough.”
He grins a bit, before looking over as a Doctor and another man steps through the other door.
He paces in front of Steve before stopping in front of him. He bends at the waist.
“Who do you work for?”
“I told you! Scoops. Scoops Ahoy! Do you think I’d be wearing this stupid outfit?!”
The man sighs and lifts, sending a slight nod at the Doctor.
You watch quietly as he reaches for something before standing in front of Steve.
“Hey,” You call out, fingers stretching out. “Hey! Don’t- What is that?!” You look over at the man who was laughing at something said in Russian, before Steve is pricked behind the ear.
Your heart breaks at the sound, arms yanking in the restraint. You knew it wouldn’t work and you didn’t know what you’d do if it did.
You knew you’d be dead.
But better than Steve being dead.
Robin’s next. “No! Leave them alo-” There’s a stinging to your cheek that effectively shuts your words off and a sob leaves your throat.
“Now,” The man says, smiling, he bends at the waist again. “Who do work for?”
Steve smirks a bit. “Scoops Ahoy.”
You feel a stinging down your finger and you let out a small scream, staring at the pliers pulling at the nail.
“Okay! Okay! We-we heard the code over the radio, which is stupid by the way,” Robin is quick to speak up. The sting slowly dies down as he pulls the pliers away. “Why would you-" She cackles. “Why would you broadcast it to where everyone and anyone could hear it?”
“Right! If you and Dustin could decipher what the code meant,” Your eyes widened at the boys name. “Then anyone could!” Steve laughs.
“Steve.” Robin says, not finding it too funny anymore.
“Who is this Dustin?”
“Dustin Henderson. Short. Curly hair. Annoying.”
“Steve.” It was your turn to grit out his name.
Before anything else could happen, there’s outside commotion. Steve smirks up at the man.
He huffs and demands the man next to you to stay put before walking out.
“Steve, Robin,” You say. “Are you okay?”
“Perfect.” Robin.
“I feel good actually.” Steve giggles. Giggles.
Before you could say anything else, there’s a war cry and a buzzing sound. Your eyes watch as Dustin Henderson zaps the guard.
He falls to the ground, hitting his head. Erica is quick to run towards you, pulling the binds away. You quickly thank her before sliding off the chair and making your way towards Steve.
Your hands immediately cup his swollen and bloody cheeks, you’d almost forgotten how, despite how beaten he was, soft his face was. “Steve, you okay?” He stares at you, a goofy smile on his face. “Are you okay, sweetcheeks? Been missin’ me?” His words were jumbled, but you could tell what he was saying.
You fight the urge to roll your eyes, before glancing at Dustin and Erica who looks confused. “They gave them something.” You explain quickly.
“Explains why they’re both so happy all of a sudden.” Erica concludes.
🕊️
Erica had promised to watch the two, but didn’t follow through.
You couldn’t be mad at her, she was pulled into something no eleven year-old child should be pulled into.
Your heart hammers and you push the mens bathroom door open, eyes glancing around the room.
“That’s the men’s bathroom,” Dustin points out. “Someone could be in there.”
You turn towards him, the door closing behind you. “I don’t care, Dustin. I’m just trying to find them before they run off somewhere and get themselves killed.”
You step towards the women’s bathroom, pushing the door open. You see Robin and Steve in the same stall on the dirty floor.
A jealousy settles in your chest. “What are you guys doing? We thought they had found you!”
They both stare at the three of you, before glancing at one another.
They suddenly burst out laughing.
You clench your jaw, fist forming at your sides. It was cute that they both thought it was so funny, but you didn’t find it funny. Not at all.
You turn, pushing your way out of the bathroom that had suddenly grown too hot and too small.
🕊️
Billy’s grip on your neck makes your nails scratch at his arm, legs kicking at his own.
You were hoping he didn’t notice El crawling away from the big, slimy, melted-people monster.
But he did.
He’s quick to throw you against the wall, the breath leaving your lungs all at once as your chest hits the ground next.
Your slow make your way onto your hands and knees, coughing as silva drips from your mouth and you greedily try to suck in air.
You ignore Billy’s scream and the roar, but Max’s has you on high alert.
You try as quickly as you can to stand, feet aching and blistered, probably red and bloody.
Your eyes watch as Billy’s body falls onto the ground and the ground shakes as the Shadow Monster does the same.
Black covers the front of his shirt and drips out of his mouth. You make your way towards El, kneeling down beside her.
“Are you okay?” You push some of her hair back. She nods, hand gripping yours before leaning her head against your chest.
You’re quick to hug her.
She’s then pulling away to hold a sobbing Max in her arms.
🕊️
3:35am.
Your arms were burning from the shower you had just taken, rubbing the washcloth rough enough to leave red marks. The lotion wasn’t helping at all.
There’s a knock at your window that makes you flinch, heart beating in your throat now. But once you see the head full of hair, you releasing a breath before walking over and unlocking it to push it up.
“You could’ve knocked,” You help him through. “My parents aren’t here. They had a-”
“Business trip,” He sighs. “Yeah. I know.”
You were both friends before having a short relationship, both sets of parents worked with one another.
So when one was gone, the other one was gone as well.
“I just wanted to check on you.” He stuffs his hands into his pockets.
You nod a bit, moving towards your bed and sitting down as you pick at a loose thread.
“I’m okay. Are you?” You peek up at him.
“Excellent. Took two Advil before coming over.” He steps over, sitting next to you.
You give a small smile, before looking down at your lap.
It was silent. Comfortable, surprisingly, but it was almost deafening.
“I’m sorry-"
“I just-"
You both stop, huffing out a laugh. Steve points at you. “Ladies first.”
You smile a bit. “I just. . .” You didn’t know what to say, so instead, “I was scared.”
He looks at you, tilting his head. “Of what?”
You tug at your bottom lip with your teeth before looking up at him. “Of losing you,” You nod. His face softens, shoulders sagging slightly. He stays silent to let you finish. “I was scared of losing you,” It was more certain now. “When they dragged me in there and I say your. . . your face, you looked like if they did one more punch, you would’ve. . . Would’ve. . ."
The words stop because you didn’t want to say what you meant, let alone imagine it.
“Hey. . .” He reaches over, thumb wiping away a tear you didn’t even notice had fallen. “Hey, come here.” His hand drops to your bicep, pulling you closer.
You scoot closer to him, the comforting scent you’d grown up around invades your senses. Warm vanilla, slight oranges, cashmere, and if you really take a deeper breath, there’s slight caramel.
It’s all Steve.
His hand soothingly rubs up your back, gripping your neck. “Hey. I’m okay, I’m here. They didn’t get me,” His hand pulls around to hold your face. “They’ll never get me.” He smirks.
You huff slightly, dropping your head as you shake it. He drops his own, staring at you through his lashes.
“I’m okay,” He repeats, softer this time. “You don’t have to worry about losing me.”
Your eyes meet with his warm ones this time, nodding. He smiles softly, eyes darting down to your lips before back up to your eyes.
His thumb tugs softly next to your lip.
“Can I-”
“Please.” You nod, not letting him even finish before leaning in. He meets you halfway, lips intertwining with yours carefully.
Your hands are careful when they land on his face, thumbs softly rubbing against his skin softly.
He kisses the same - soft, slow, like you were going to slip away.
He slowly pulls away, nose nudging yours with the tip of his. You smile softly, nudging his back.
“I’ve missed you.”
You open your eyes slowly, pushing his hair back, staring at him for a moment.
“I’ve missed you, too.”

It had been a long time since Jeremy had reason to comfort anyone. When his younger sister had gone missing in 1985, Jeremy was too steeped in his own grief and frustration to be of any help to his family. His step-father thought so too and had kicked him out of the house for his negligence.
Jeremy had been too preoccupied in 1987 to comfort the parents of the children going missing. He'd been terrified of the animatronics, and it turned out his fears were warranted when they'd attacked him. During his day shift.
Now it was 1993, and Jeremy was once again working behind a desk, clicking through cameras and watching for danger. It was nice to have a day shift, he supposed. And these animatronics did not leave the stage at all. But Jeremy could still feel the itchiness of his face from the pain they'd caused six years ago. The animatronics may have been long gone, but the scars remained.
The shift was easy enough. Arrive at 6 a.m., relieve the night shift, and unlock the doors for the kitchen crew when they arrived at 10 a.m. No need to worry about animatronics in the morning since their free-roam turned off like clockwork. Jeremy could understand why the room had a certain odor in the mornings sometimes. He had worked a nightshift before, after all.
The thing he hadn't anticipated was a near-hysterical high school student curled up in a ball under the security desk. Jeremy peered at the boy, fiddling with the hat on his head. "Kid?"
The boy shuddered as he gasped air into his lungs. "Is it 6 a.m.? Is it morning?"
"Yeah, I'm here to take over. Do you need a minute?"
The night guard crawled out from underneath the desk, nodding weakly. Jeremy grabbed one arm and helped him up. He reflected that this was exactly how he'd reacted after his first night.
Jeremy wrapped his jacket around the kid as he sat down in the chair. "First night on the job?"
The kid nodded. Jeremy flipped through the cameras quickly, ensuring all the animatronics had returned to their places. Everything was fine, but there were clear tears in Foxy's curtain. That wasn't Jeremy's problem, thankfully. Parts and Services would handle that, just like they'd handle the seemingly broken camera.
"I... I don't think..."
"You going to quit?" Jeremy replied, absently pulling his keys from his pocket. He figured there was no way this kid was sticking around for much longer. Jeremy gave him a week at best.
"I don't want to have to do this," the kid said quietly.
A sharp searing pain shot through Jeremy's entire body. He identified it quickly, realizing it came from behind him. From where the kid was sitting. He stabbed me? Jeremy thought to himself as the keys fell from his hands.
"Nothing personal," the kid said, but the terrified undertone was long gone. "I just needed a way to get your keys."
Jeremy leaned heavily on the security desk, reaching one hand toward the phone.
"I cut the line. Maybe you'll survive. Or maybe not." The kid hesitated for a moment. "My boss might decide you don't deserve to live."
When Jeremy stumbled to the floor, he cursed his luck. Of course the killer was back. Of course he had help this time. And of course they'd choose today to steal his keys and prepare their break-in patterns. No one came in on Sundays. The place was completely closed, save for the security guard. That meant this kid and his child-killing boss had plenty of time before the next guard arrived in six hours.
Jeremy wasn't even originally supposed to work today. Fritz had been fired a few days prior, and Jeremy's boss practically had to beg him to cover. Maybe Jeremy could last until the next guard arrived, but he didn't think it was likely.
The tell-tale sound of the power plummeting seemed to echo in Jeremy's ears. Lights out, he thought to himself as the music box started up in his ears. He couldn't see Freddy, but he'd worked here long enough to hear the rumors. Freddy always got up and moved when the lights went out. He always came straight for the security office unless it was after 6 a.m. Jeremy assumed that whatever was going on had broken Freddy's normal routine.
The bear wasn't coming for him though, much to his surprise. He could hear the terrified scream of the other security guard as Freddy sought him out. Always after the night guard, Jeremy thought to himself, feeling his blood soaking through his shirt and pooling around him.
When he opened his eyes again, he didn't expect to be staring a golden bear in the face. He laughed, a gurgling sound as blood filled his throat. "You're not real," he told the animatronic.
One eye gleamed white, studying him. The animatronic didn't move, didn't speak, but it continued to occupy the space in front of the desk. And suddenly the animatronic did move, reaching out to brush the hair from Jeremy's face.
"You were a victim?" the animatronic said in a voice rusty from disuse. It sounded too small, too frightened, to be coming from such a large animatronic.
"We were all victims," Jeremy spat blood, rolling away from the animatronic. "Just let me die in peace."
"You don't deserve to die." There was an underlying fury as the animatronic rose to its feet, scooping Jeremy up in its arms. "We will fix you."
"I don't need fixing," Jeremy whispered, but he had no strength to resist the giant bear.
The carry reminded him of the last time he'd been near an animatronic. All the animatronics at the last restaurant had tried to kill him. But the Bonnie model from the back room hadn't. The old, worn, faceless Bonnie model. Jeremy didn't recall the other models appearing at all though. Just Bonnie.
Maybe it had been sympathy, or maybe it had been something else, but the animatronic rabbit had fought off two of the toys by himself, giving the rest of the staff an opportunity to drag him out of the mess.
The bear carried him gently, like he was something precious. The same delicate way Jeremy had wished to be held as a child in the thralls of nightmares.
"I must be imagining things," Jeremy mused to the yellow fabric of the bear's suit.
"This is real, I swear," the bear replied.
"Who are you?" Jeremy asked, swallowing back another mouthful of blood. "I've never seen you before."
"They buried me. They wanted to forget. They wanted to keep the children from getting nightmares," the bear muttered. "My name has been mostly forgotten. But I remember well enough. You weren't the first bite."
"I'd love to meet the other guy. Compare notes," Jeremy replied, eyes fluttering shut again.
"You already have," the bear whispered, but Jeremy was no longer conscious enough to hear him.

Eddie Munson x fem!reader
Summary: Eddie Munson's ex-not-quite-girlfriend Hannah Newby is pregnant. But it's not his. And she won't say whose it is. Very slow burn. Exes to friends to (eventual) lovers.
A/N: This is my first ever fic! Thank you so so so much to @shybunnie20 for being absolutely wonderful and helping me so much. Definitely go check out her work, she's amazing.
Contents: No upside down. Pregnancy. Reader is called Hannah because I didn't want to use Y/N but no physical description of reader (so maybe an OC? I don't know). Bob is her dad, because I love him. The Byers are still in Hawkins because I love them too.

Chapter 1: Apple
Eddie finds out Hannah is pregnant and decides he wants to help.
September 1st, 1985 - 15 weeks pregnant
"She's WHAT!?"
Eddie smacks the cafeteria table as his front chair legs hit the floor from where he's been rocking back on it, not paying any attention to his friends until he heard that.
"Pregnant," Gareth repeats. "Hannah Newby's pregnant."
"Hey, didn't you two-" Jeff is cut off by the screech of chair legs across the floor as Eddie scrambles away and out the door.
The boys left behind look at each other; wide eyed and grimacing.
Five minutes later, Eddie is sweet talking Mrs Jennings in the school office. He can be really charming if he wants to be. Sometimes.
His uncle Wayne has always told him that office administrators are the ones with the real power. They can be your best friend, or they can make your life incredibly difficult. Keep them on side.
It's the first day of the new school year - Eddie's third attempt at graduating. Eddie still knew Hannah's schedule from last year, but that didn't help him now. He didn’t even know where her locker would be.
"Now, you let me know if you want me to take another look at your car sometime. Can't have my favourite person at this school breaking down on the way here! This place would fall apart without you." Eddie leans on the desk with a winning, dimple-filled smile.
"Oh, you are still such a nice boy, Eddie Munson." Mrs Jennings reaches out and pinches his cheek.
"Psh," Eddie waves her off bashfully. "Only to you, Mrs Jennings."
She tuts playfully at him and slides some papers across the desk. "Here you go, but remember, don't go telling anyone where you got that."
Eddie grabs it and clutches it to his chest. "Our little secret." He whispers and gives her a wink before he saunters away.
As soon as he’s out of sight, Eddie frantically scans the paper, and rushes off down the hallway. He rounds a corner and bounces off Connor Cunningham amongst a gaggle of jocks, all dressed in their green-sleeved jackets.
“Woah there.” Connor catches Eddie before he topples backwards. He is by far the nicest of the basketball team; meaning he doesn’t contribute to any of the bullying, just watches it happen.
Jason steps up and grips Eddie by the collar, shoving him away. “Watch it, freak!”
Eddie stumbles around them and carries on running down the corridor.
"No way! I didn't think it was really true!"
"She doesn't look pregnant. Are you sure she didn't just put on weight?"
"Does anyone know whose it is yet?"
Jules stands like a guard dog next to Hannah digging through her locker. She glares at everyone walking past who is whispering and gawking. Jules isn’t naturally intimidating, but maybe it’s someone usually so relaxed seeming so hostile that sends people scurrying along.
She takes a moment to survey her best friend. Jules wants to know how Hannah is feeling, but knows her well enough to know she won’t say if asked. Ten years of friendship means that Jules is generally pretty attuned to Hannah’s emotions even when she tries to mask them. But right now, she’s shoved them so far down, Jules can’t tell what’s going on in her head.
Just as Jules is about to ask, she sees Eddie Munson hurrying towards them over Hannah’s shoulder. She coughs, “Incoming.” Nodding towards him. “You gonna be ok?”
Hannah nods and flashes her a tight smile.
Jules hesitates; she wants to comfort Hannah in some way, but knows that anything she tries right now will just overwhelm her. Instead, she attempts a smile in return and walks away in the opposite direction to Eddie.
Hannah takes a steadying breath and closes her locker door just as Eddie comes up beside her, shoulders tense and eyes wide with panic.
"It's not yours, Eddie." She glances up at him. "You can unclench."
"Oh," he sags and leans back against the wall of lockers, then perks straight back up again. "Are you sure? How far along are you?"
"Nearly 4 months. Fifteen weeks. Doctor says it's the size of an apple.” Hannah shakes her head. “I was already pregnant when we started hooking up." She ducks her head and focuses on her fingers fidgeting with a battered book spine. "I didn't know. I'm sorry."
Still refusing to look at him, Hannah walks around Eddie. He stares at the spot she was standing for a moment before moving in front of her again.
"Wait, is this why you dumped me?"
Hannah stares at him incredulously; "I didn't- We weren't-" She sighs. "Yes, Eddie. This is why I stopped hanging out with you."
Eddie looks at her, studying her face for a moment. Her figure and her face are maybe a little fuller, the only visual indication he can see of her pregnancy. He thinks she looks as beautiful as ever, but stressed and tired. The usual crinkle between her brows seems almost fixed in place.
"You've got history now, right?" Eddie swoops in and snatches the books from her arms, grinning at her. "Come on." He cocks his head down the hall and starts walking backwards away from her.
"Wha- what are you- Eddie, give me those!"
"Nuh-uh! You can't be carrying things when you're pregnant!"
"HEAVY things Eddie! I'm sure I'm fine carrying two books!"
"Best not to risk it. Come on!"
"How long do you think until she doesn’t even fit in the seat?"
"It's Munson's, right? It's got to be. They were all over each other at the end of last year."
"My mom warned me not to be friends with her."
Hannah sits through her history class staring straight ahead, determinedly ignoring her classmates and counting down the minutes to the end. The only saving grace is Mr Wilson. He has always been Hannah’s favourite teacher: stern, but kind, with a wicked sense of humour he'll share with you if he likes you. Mr Wilson seems to realise that Hannah isn’t entirely present, but thankfully decides to leave her be for now.
The lesson finally comes to a close, and the students start gathering their belongings and making their way to the door. Hannah takes her time as she has no desire to be engaged in conversation by any of her fellow classmates. And it’s not like she can outrun them.
“Miss Newby?” Mr Wilson peers over his glasses. “Can I keep you for a moment?”
Mr Wilson is a lanky man in his late 40s and has been teaching his whole adult life. He has seen everything. Not surprised anymore by anything students do. Just sometimes which student did it.
“So,” Mr Wilson starts once they are alone. “Are you ok?”
Hannah’s head shoots up from where she had been eyeballing the floor. “What?”
“I’m guessing this wasn’t what you had planned for your senior year and I know this can’t be easy. People can be shit.” Hannah’s eyebrows raise at her teacher’s profanity. “I just want you to know that you can come to me if you need anything. I mean it. Academic or otherwise. I will help you.”
Hannah blinks. "Thank you."
"Go on." He nods towards the door with a friendly smile. "Get."
As Hannah leaves the classroom frowning at the floor, she sees a pair of familiar Reeboks approach. Her gaze follows as her books are lifted from her arms again and she's met with the dimples of a smiling Eddie Munson.
"Hi there sweetheart. How was history?"
"Are you seriously not going to let me carry any books the whole time I'm pregnant?" Hannah's frown deepens. Eddie's smile only grows.
"Nope." Popping the p. "Art next, yeah?"
Hannah squints at him, but follows down the hallway with a huff. "What, have you been buttering up Mrs Jennings again?"
"Sorry, can't reveal my sources."
"Well that means yes."
"I am sworn to secrecy! You will never get it out of me!"
Eddie looks over at Hannah with a dazzling grin. She's still frowning, but there's a little sparkle in her eyes. Eddie thinks he would do just about anything to see that sparkle.
That's how it goes for the rest of the day. Hannah stoically ignores her fellow students during class, then Eddie meets her outside her classroom and carries her few books as he escorts her to the next one.
When Hannah exits her penultimate lesson of the day and she is greeted yet again by Eddie Munson's doe eyes, she finally asks what's been bugging her all day: "How are you even doing this? How do you get to my classrooms so quickly from yours?"
Eddie leans in conspiratorially. "That's for me to know, and you to figure out, sweetheart."
She narrows her eyes and points a finger in his face, making him recoil slightly; bemused. "Give me time."
Eddie lets out a booming laugh at that, and follows Hannah to her locker.
Eddie leans against the locker next to Hannah's. "How do you know it's an apple?"
"Hm?” Hannah is struggling with a giant sketchbook.
"This morning you said the baby is the size of an apple. How do you know?" Eddie guides Hannah out of the way and pulls the sketchbook free.
"The doctor gave me this chart that tells you the size of the baby each week and it has comparative fruits on it. This week it's an apple." Hannah shrugs. "Next week it's an avocado."
"Is that a fruit?" Eddie scrunches his face, puzzled.
Hannah shrugs again and starts towards her classroom. Eddie bounds after her.
"Hey,” Eddie nudges her shoulder with his. “You'll never guess what Jeff did."
"What?" Hannah is watching him out of the corner of her eye, careful to keep her expression blank at his antics.
"Don't ask why. Maybe he had an itch, maybe he was just curious, who knows. But he stuck the end of his pencil up his nose, and when he took it out, the eraser got left behind!"
"Ew." Hannah wrinkles her nose.
"I know! But it gets worse."
"How?!" Hannah finally turns to him as they come to a stop outside their destination.
"He sneezed and it shot out.” Eddie cackles. “Hit Carver in the back of the head!"
Hannah snorts, then smacks her hand over her mouth, mortified. She grabs her book out of Eddie's arms then flees through the classroom door, waving over her shoulder without looking back.
Eddie is thrilled.
"See you after class!" he calls out to her retreating figure, chuckling fondly to himself.
But when Hannah exits her last lesson of the day, Eddie is nowhere to be seen.
Hannah looks up and down the corridor, but still no Eddie. She knows she shouldn’t be disappointed; she shouldn't expect this of him when he doesn’t owe her anything. So she makes her way to her locker and takes out her backpack.
Just as she is closing the door, Eddie slams up against the lockers next to her, panting.
"Sorry." Deep breath. "Mrs O'Donnell." Wheeze. "She hates me."
"Still? You'd have thought she'd've gotten used to you by now."
Eddie squints up at her from where he's hunched over. "Rude."
He heaves himself upright with a groan and grabs the belongings from her hands. Eddie looks her over, and shakes his head. “You know this stuff is supposed to go on the paper, right?” He rubs at some charcoal on Hannah’s cheek with his thumb.
Hannah’s face flushes. “Shut up.” She swats his hand away and buffs her cheek with the heel of her hand.
Eddie grins. He’s delighted at affecting her, but takes pity on her and changes the subject. "Is your dad picking you up or is Jules giving you a ride home?"
"Jules is doing an art thing."
"Already? It's the first day of school, can't the girl take a break?"
Hannah shrugs and starts walking.
"So where are you meeting your dad?" Eddie follows.
"He's working."
"Joyce?"
"They broke up."
"Oh, that’s too bad - wait, I don't understand. How are you planning on getting home?"
"The bus."
Eddie stops. Holding his arm out in front of Hannah to halt her too. She scowls down at his arm in front of her then lifts her gaze to his.
Eddie splutters. "Are you kidding me?! Do you know how disgusting those things are? You're pregnant! Absolutely not. No. Not happening."
"Eddie-"
"No." He turns her to face him and holds her by the shoulders. "There is no way in hell I am letting you get on that germ infested tin can."
She squirms out of his grasp. "As opposed to your germ infested tin can."
"I'm giving you a ride, ok?"
"Eddie-"
"Ok?"
"Ed-"
"Please, Han?"
She looks at him for a moment. Then huffs, rolling her eyes. "Fine."
"Thank you."
They're at a stoplight and Eddie is rifling through the glovebox, leaning across the centre console and Hannah's knees with his tongue poking out in concentration. Hannah's gaze travels over his face, chewing her bottom lip as she studies him.
"Aha!" Eddie holds up a cassette tape in triumph, startling Hannah. "Sorry." Eddie immediately looks sheepish.
Hannah tries to get a look at the tape, but Eddie is waving it around too much before he puts it on to play.
Twangy guitar and a slow, steady drum beat fill the van as Eddie drives away. Hannah's head whips around to stare at Eddie, eyebrows shooting up her forehead before furrowing.
"The Chain?"
"It's your favourite song." Eddie shrugs, stealing a glance at her. Hannah sharply turns back to the windshield, but not before Eddie sees her bite down on the twitching corners of her mouth. Eddie's cheeks hurt, he’s smiling so wide.
Listen to the wind blow, watch the sun rise
Running in the shadows, damn your love, damn your lies
Eddie is slamming his palms on the wheel to the beat. He glances over and sees that Hannah's knee is bobbing along too. She doesn't even seem to be conscious of it. Eddie joins in with the next part of the song.
And if you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain
"Come on sweetheart, you know you want to!"
But Hannah turns further away, leaning her elbow on the passenger side window and covering the lower part of her face with her hand. This only encourages Eddie. He belts it out even louder.
And if you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain
"You're a terrible singer, Eddie."
He cackles. "You're a terrible liar, Hannah."
"I think you're confused. It's humility that's a virtue; not wild unapologetic arrogance." She still hasn't turned away from the window.
"Good thing I have no interest in virtuosity." He keeps glancing at her.
"I don't think that's a word."
"It's definitely a word, sweetheart."
Eddie thinks Hannah is smiling behind her hand. He can hear it in her voice, even if she won't let him see it.
The chorus is coming up again.
"Come on," Eddie bumps Hannah's bicep gently with a closed fist. "Sing with me."
“Fuck off.”
Eddie runs his hand down her arm until he circles her wrist and tugs gently. He sings along softly this time, even as the music ramps up.
Hannah doesn't turn to face him, but peeks over out of the corner of her eye. She realises her mistake immediately when she sees his face. Those big brown eyes looking at her. Pleading with her.
She lets out a long, drawn out groan. The chorus is going round again. Hannah sings along too this time; much quieter than Eddie.
Eddie pulls up outside Hannah's house and throws the van into park, turning in his seat and pulling her to face him too. They're both shouting out the words this time, Eddie grinning wildly and Hannah's face scrunched.
And if you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain
They're both breathing heavily; faces close, looking at each other as the bass line stretches out and the music starts to build again.
Eddie glances down to her lips. Just for a split second. But Hannah sees, and snaps back; away from him, out of the moment.
"Thanks for the ride."
"Yeah, of- of course."
"Bye, Eddie." She's already out of the van and closing the door, giving him a small wave.
"Bye." But the door is already shut. And Hannah is already halfway up the path.
"Shit. Wait!" Eddie kills the ignition, cutting off the music. He fumbles with his door and practically falls out of his van, scrambling to get to her.
"Nice landing."
Eddie's head shoots up. Hannah is standing by her open front door, but she is waiting.
"It's all about the recovery, sweetheart."
"And when does that happen?"
"Oof! Hit me where it hurts, Han!" He clutches at his heart. She rolls her eyes. There's that sparkle again.
But it's gone in an instant. As if she's remembered a reason not to.
"You wanted something?"
"Yes. Yeah," he swipes his hands on his jeans. When did they get so sweaty?
"How are you getting to school tomorrow?"
"Jules said she'd pick me up."
"Ok. Good. Great. Just… Please promise me you won't get the bus? I will give you a ride any time. Really. No bus."
An eye roll. "Sure."
"Promise?"
A sigh. "Yes, Eddie. I promise. No bus."
"Thank you."
A pause. "Do you think you could drive me home again tomorrow? Jules said her art thing might be a few days this week."
"Yes! I can do that." Eddie grins at her, and turns back to the van.
"Eddie?" Quieter this time.
"Yeah?"
Hannah furrows her brow and fixates on her feet. "People are going to… think it's yours." She glances up at him. "Don't you mind?"
"Sweetheart, I couldn't give less of a shit what this town thinks of me. Especially if it means I get to spend time with you."
She wrinkles her nose at him. "Gross."
Eddie cackles. "See you tomorrow, sweetheart."
Eddie is early to school the next day. He can't remember when he was last on time, let alone early. He sits on top of one of the picnic tables between the parking lot and the front entrance; smoking, legs bouncing. Waiting for Hannah.
Eddie finishes his cigarette and is debating lighting up another one when he sees Jules' car pull into the lot.
"Jules, please just drop it." Hannah slams the car door after her and walks off, only to stop when she locks eyes with Eddie. He gives her a smile and a small wave as he jumps off the table.
"Han, come on. I'm not trying to upset you." Jules catches up to Hannah and grabs her arm to turn her around. "You know I'm just worried."
"Yeah, I get it. You just," Hannah looks around and lowers her voice. "You know you can't say anything."
Jules sighs. "I know." She pulls Hannah into a hug. "I don't like it, but I know."
Hannah melts into the hug for a moment, before wriggling out of it. "Get off me, you loser."
Jules snorts. "Right, sorry. I forgot. Can't have people thinking you're actually a giant teddy bear."
"Fuck off."
Jules laughs and they make their way towards the school. She spots Eddie and nudges Hannah with her shoulder. "Your boy's waiting."
"Fuck. Off." Hannah scrunches her face and pushes Jules towards the main entrance, walking over to Eddie.
"Love you too, see you later!"
"Yeah, whatever."
Eddie is rocking on his heels with his hands in his pockets, looking bashful. "Hi."
"Hi." Hannah looks at him with a soft, curious expression. "You gonna be my errand boy again today?"
"Yes. Definitely. Absolutely. Here, let me…" Eddie slides Hannah's bag off her shoulder and hoists it over his own.
"Thanks."
Hannah seems softer today, like she used to be with him. He loved that about her. Around most people, she was spiky and hard to reach. She often didn't like too much affection; would feel like she was choking on it and push you away. But she appreciated the little things. He could build up to it, make her gooey and pliable. She would melt into him and he would be allowed to shower her with affection, and she would give it right back.
Hannah is looking at his right hand holding her backpack strap. She reaches up and touches the lone ring there, a small smile flickering on her face.
He's probably pushing his luck, but he wants to try. With the arm hanging by his side, Eddie brushes his hand against hers, watching her face carefully. She doesn't recoil; her small smile solidifies. So Eddie momentarily links his pinky finger with hers and squeezes.
Hannah squeezes back.
Eddie is waiting opposite Hannah's 4th period biology class. The class is letting out, but he hasn't seen her yet.
"She's not here."
Eddie startles at Connor Cunningham coming up and talking to him, from a glance he thought it was Jason Carver. It always unnerves Eddie how similar the two jocks look; only Connor’s hazel eyes and strawberry blond distinguishing him from Jason. Both of them the cookie-cutter American teen dream.
"What?"
"Hannah. She's not here. She left like halfway through class. I think she was trying to hide it but it looked like she was crying."
"Shit, really?" Eddie looks around frantically.
"Her stuff is still in there. She spoke to Ms Petrelli before she left, maybe she knows?"
"Yeah, thanks." Eddie calls out, already walking into the classroom. Ms Petrelli, an older woman, is tidying up around her desk when she sees Eddie.
"Mr Munson, can I help you?"
"Hannah. Do you know where she went? I can take her stuff to her." Already making his way to the only desk still with belongings.
"She rushed out of here earlier. Said she needed to go to the nurse. Usually, of course, I don't allow-"
Eddie stops listening. He gathers Hannah's things and races back out into the crowded hallway. Shouting a loud "thanks" back to the teacher.
"Hey, watch it!"
"Ugh, probably running to his baby mama."
"Freak."
"Didn't you hear? Apparently…"
Eddie isn't paying attention to who he bumps into, or what abuse they're hurling at him for doing so. He just needs to know Hannah is ok.
Finally, he stumbles into the nurse's office, chest heaving from his run.
Hannah looks up as the door slams open with wide, teary eyes. "Eddie?"
"Sweetheart," he puts Hannah's books down on a table and crouches down in front of her. "What happened?"
"Nothing, it's stupid." Hannah swipes at her cheeks.
"Hey, if it made you cry, it's not stupid." Eddie wraps a hand around her ankle and strokes his thumb along the bone.
"No, it's definitely stupid. And now I'm crying more because I cried over something stupid."
Eddie's eyes flit back and forth, trying to follow. He shakes his head. "Huh?"
"She's hormonal." The school nurse drones, walking in from an adjoining office, perusing some papers.
"I really hate that word." Hannah scowls at her.
"You're pregnant, and you cried over bunnies. What would you call that, dear?"
"You cried over bunnies?" Eddie's eyebrows are up in his bangs.
Hannah's scowl turns to him. He holds his hands up in surrender.
“Let me know when you’re ready to go back to class.” The nurse doesn’t look up from her paperwork as she walks back into her office.
Hannah groans and buries her face in her palms. "We were learning about the food chain and Ms Petrelli was using foxes and rabbits as an example. There was a picture in the textbook. It upset me, ok? I'm hormonal, I get it!" Her words are muffled.
“Hey, come on.” Eddie coos, trying to suppress a giggle, he gently pulls at her wrists to claim her hands in his. “What can I do to make this better? What do you need?”
Hannah’s looks at Eddie with glassy eyes, her eyebrows pulled up in the middle as she stutters. “I don’t know.” Tears start to spill over her cheeks.
“Ok, sorry, how about some options?”
Hannah sniffs.
“Food? Sleep? Water? A hug?”
Hannah shifts in her seat, not looking Eddie in the eye.
Eddie runs his thumbs over her knuckles. “Please tell me, Han.”
“Can you- Please don’t make a big deal of this.”
“Cross my heart.”
“Can you give me a hug?”
Eddie tries not to show how thrilled he is as he stands up, knees clicking. He pulls Hannah into his chest and wraps his arms tight around her.
The pair sway a little on the spot, Eddie laying his cheek on the top of Hannah's head. He smiles as he feels her slowly start to relax.
"Better?"
Hannah hums in response.
"You want to get some food? That's a pregnancy thing, right? Cravings?"
Hannah hums again, her face still buried in Eddie's chest.
"Ok, options… burger, fries, bacon, milkshake-" He feels Hannah perk up in his arms. "Alright then, milkshakes." He smiles down at her warmly.
Eddie reluctantly peels himself away from Hannah, his hands on her shoulders, ducks his head down to hers and grins eagerly. "Let's get out of here."
Hannah takes a deep breath and smiles shyly in response. "Does Benny still do those Oreo milkshakes?"
"I don't think they're on the menu anymore, but he likes you. More than he likes me anyway. So he might if you asked." They start walking.
Hannah rolls her eyes. "He likes me more than you because I don't have ketchup fights in his diner."
"I think you'll find I was on team mustard." Eddie raises his chin haughtily. "And really, he should blame you for leaving us unsupervised."
Hannah gapes at him; indignant. "I was in the bathroom for five minutes! You are not pinning that on me." She gives his shoulder a shove and marches away.
Eddie stops for a moment in the middle of the hallway, watching after her with a dopey expression.
Hannah calls back over her shoulder, “Are you coming or what? You promised milkshakes.”
The ride to Benny’s is quiet, Fleetwood Mac playing softly through the speakers again. When they pull up to the diner, Eddie jumps out and rushes around the front of the van to open the passenger side door before Hannah has even gotten her seatbelt off. He holds out a hand for her to take and helps her jump down.
Hannah thanks him. “You know you can listen to your music, right? It’s your van.”
Eddie shrugs. “Babies can hear stuff from out here, can’t they? I figured you’d want to indoctrinate them to Stevie Nicks ASAP.”
Hannah touches her belly and looks down at it, frowning. “I think they might still be too young. I don’t know if they even have ears yet.” Hannah ponders. “But you’re right about starting their musical education early.” She tugs lightly at Eddie’s jacket sleeve. Eddie smiles to himself, he recognises one of her small affections.
They reach the door, and Eddie holds it open for Hannah, bowing deeply as she passes through. Hannah scoffs as she passes but thanks him.
“Hi Benny.”
The diner owner looks up from where he’s standing at the cash register. “Haven’t seen you two in a while. Figured you’d broken up.”
Hannah skids her shoes against the floor; Eddie scratches the back of his neck. The awkward silence stretches out painfully.
“Right…” Benny draws out the word and grins wickedly. He is basking in their discomfort. “What’ll it be?”
Eddie looks at Hannah pointedly. She narrows her eyes at him, but steps forward. “Any chance of two Oreo milkshakes?” She smiles in faux sweetness.
“Those aren’t on the menu anymore.”
“I know, but they were just so good. The best milkshakes ever. Better than any milkshake anyone has ever-”
“Alright, alright. If that’s what it takes to shut you up.” Benny frowns at Hannah, but there’s warmth behind it. “Anything else?”
Hannah thinks for a moment, swaying her head from side to side. “Onion rings, please. Oh, and cheese fries. And some bacon. Please.” Hannah looks embarrassed as she looks to Eddie, but he winks at her; pleased that she’s letting go a little.
“Cheeseburger and fries please, Benny.”
Benny shoos them away to a booth where they sit opposite each other. Eddie splays his hands on the table between them and looks up at Hannah. “So I was doing some math earlier.”
Hannah is looking at Eddie’s ringed fingers, trying (and failing) to be discreet about it. One of her hands starts creeping across the table top. “In math class?”
Eddie is trying not to smile; trying not to show that he has noticed her movements. He doesn’t want to spook her. “Uh, no actually. In geography.”
“Oh?” Her hand reaches his and she starts pulling at his rings and twisting them around his fingers.
“You said 4 months, right?”
Hannah stops her fiddling and looks up at Eddie. He winces.
“Um, yeah. Nearly. Fifteen weeks.” She pulls back to her side of the table and tucks her hands under her thighs.
Eddie curses himself and reaches after her. He didn’t mean to make her retreat again. “Han, I’m sorry, I don’t want to talk about anything you’re not comfortable with. We can talk about something else.”
“No,” Hannah shakes her head. “I’m not uncomfortable. It’s just…” she exhales and grimaces. “I’m not exactly happy about this whole thing, you know.”
Eddie makes a sympathetic noise, then leans back in his seat as Benny arrives with a tray full of food and milkshakes. Hannah brightens up immediately; her eyes shining.
Benny distributes the food on the table with a grunt and walks back to his position in the kitchen.
Hannah springs forward the second he leaves and grabs her milkshake. Her eyes roll back as she slurps through the straw.
Eddie beams and grabs his own. Giving Benny a thumbs up as he drinks.
Hannah hums happily as she digs into her various plates; wiggling in her seat slightly. Eddie watches her fondly. He knows she doesn’t always like showing how she feels; being vulnerable. But he wants her to feel safe with him and open up, like she did before.
Hannah pauses her munching, her eyes flitting from fries to milkshake. She picks up a fry, dunks it in her milkshake, and quickly shoves it in her mouth. Eddie chokes on his own food as Hannah lets out a loud moan.
“Oh my god, you have to try this.” She dunks another fry and holds it out for Eddie, waving it in his face when he doesn’t move.
“Uhh, I’m alright sweetheart. You have it.”
Hannah shrugs and pops it in her own mouth. “Your loss.”
“So have you had much of that? Weird food cravings?”
“I don’t think I’ve really had any.” Hannah picks up an onion ring this time, and gleefully dunks and eats it. “Mmpf. You sure you don’t want to try this?”
“I’m sure, thanks though.” Eddie hides his smirk behind his burger.
Eddie takes a large bite, and talks through his chewing, “What about nausea? Morning sickness. That’s a thing, right?”
“Don’t talk with your mouth full, you pig.” Hannah throws a cheesy fry at him. Eddie jumps to try and catch it in his mouth, but misses. Hannah stifles a snort. "Yeah I had some morning sickness, but that stopped a few weeks ago thankfully. I had a lot of heartburn too, that's-"
"You're going to have a hairy baby." Eddie mumbles through his mouthful again.
Hannah stops. A milkshake coated onion ring halfway to her mouth. "Excuse me?"
Eddie swallows thickly. He doesn't know if the lump in his throat is from the burger or the way Hannah is looking at him like he's lost his mind. He rushes through his explanation: "You remember Nanny Pat? The nice old lady a few trailers down from me. Well, her daughter is pregnant too. Every time now, when I take over her weekly shop, she'll tell me all about how excited she is to be a real grandmother and tell me how the pregnancy is going. She said that her daughter had loads of heartburn, so that means her baby is going to have loads of hair!"
Hannah hasn't moved. Melted milkshake is running down her thumb. "You do her shopping every week?"
Eddie flushes, bright pink. "No." He scoffs.
A blinding smile spreads across Hannah's face and a short laugh bursts free. Eddie is awestruck.
Hannah scoops up the milkshake on her hand with her other index finger. She leans over the table and boops his nose, smearing it on the tip. "You big softie!" She stage-whispers, sitting back with a giggle. Eddie splutters and swipes at his nose with the back of his hand.
"Anyway," she guzzles her milkshake, trying to fight back her smile. "I don't think that's true. How would that work?" She mulls it over, finally putting the onion ring in her mouth. "I don't think those two bits of you are even connected."
"I dunno. You're talking to Hawkins' resident super super senior, so…." He shrugs.
Hannah throws another fry at Eddie and it hits him in the face. He looks at her, affronted. She glares back. "You're not stupid, Eddie."
"Mrs O'Donnell would disagree with you, sweetheart."
"Yeah, well she's an asshole."
He snorts. "You're not wrong."
Eddie stirs his milkshake with the straw; staring. Wondering how to ask his real questions. Whose baby is it? Why aren't they here looking after her? Will she let Eddie look after her? Or at least try?
He looks up at Hannah. She seems to be just as stuck in her own head, her gaze burning a hole in her cheese fries. She seems so totally lost in thought that Eddie is startled when she speaks softly.
"You don't have to do this, you know." Hannah sighs and fiddles with her plate, but still doesn't look up. "You don't… It's not yours. You don't owe me anything."
"I'm here because I want to be."
"But, why?" She finally looks up at him. "Doesn't it bother you that I got knocked up by someone else? That I was pregnant the whole time we were together?"
Eddie considers his words and speaks carefully. "Han, the only thing that bothers me about all of this, is that whoever it was has left you to deal with it on your own."
Hannah is visibly upset and squirms in her seat. "That's not… That’s not true." She shakes her head. "I have my dad, and Jules."
Eddie's voice is still soft, "That's not what I mean, and you know it."
"I can't-" Hannah takes a shuddering breath. "Fuck these hormones!" She hisses and presses the heels of her hands to her eyes. "I don't know what you want from me, Eddie."
"Just the pleasure of your company, sweetheart."
"This isn't a fucking joke!" Hannah slaps the table as her voice rings out in the diner, the other patrons give her disapproving looks. She looks sheepish, and continues in a whisper. "I'm scared, Eddie. I have no control over any of this and I don't know what I'm doing." Her eyes are glassy. "I can't- we can't…"
"Hey, hey, I'm sorry." Eddie reaches out and places his hand on her side of the table. "It was a bad joke, but it's true, Han, I promise." He ducks his head to catch Hannah's eye. "I'm not here to try anything. I'm here because I like spending time with you, regardless of what we are to each other." Eddie smiles at her encouragingly. "I am more than happy to be your friend. And your errand boy."
Hannah lets out a wet laugh and wipes her eyes.
A mischievous look comes over Eddie’s face. He shuffles out of the booth and drops to his knees on the floor next to Hannah, holding his hands in a plea in front of him. “Please Han,” Eddie declares, loudly. “Please will you let me be your servant for the next 5 to 6 months?!”
“Oh my god you need to stop!” Hannah jerks away, clambering to the other end of the seat. Eddie crawls up onto the seat after her. “No! No no no! Get away!” She pushes him away with a hand to the face.
“Please? PLEASE, Hannah!”
“Get the fuck away from me, asshole!”
Eddie throws his head back and cackles, still advancing.
“WHAT do you idiots think you’re doing?!”
Hannah and Eddie freeze at Benny’s booming voice. They scramble to sit on the bench properly; backs straight and eyes wide as they peer over at him as they both mumble, “Sorry Benny.”
Benny curses and slams back into the kitchen, grumbling about “stupid teenagers”.
Hannah stifles a snort and slides down in her seat. Eddie giggles and looks down at her with pure adoration. Hannah shifts slightly and nudges her head against his bicep. His heart leaps at the small show of intimacy. He decides right then: He can wait for her.
