house is unapologetically needy; he demands things of people, and will simply leave if he doesn't get them. everybody knows this, sure. but so many neglect to mention that wilson is just the equally screwed up inverse of this. he needs to be needed - he demands to be needed, just as much as house demands to be needy. and, just like house, he is willing to up and leave if he doesn't get to be needed in the way he craves

it's like wilson believes he will cease to exist if he is no longer needed. here's a man who was raised to.. be things for other people, never for himself. and the one time he puts himself first, back in med school, his brother goes off the rails, rarely seen again. he does not know how to exist for himself, and so he believes he simply will not exist if no one needs him. and so, he desires to be useful above all else. it's the only way he survives. he became an oncologist to always be needed, to always have something to give

in greek mythology, there is the idea that gods will simply fade into the background if people stop worshipping them, needing them. and this can be applied to wilson's mentality. he believes that he has no purpose without being useful to others, without serving others. sure, his ex wives needed him. but as they grew up and apart, this became less and less, so he left them first, before they could admit what he feared most - that he wasn't necessary anymore

and who always needs him ? who is demanding, domineering ? who is so needy that his well of want will never run out ? house. this is simply why they work so well. they crave each other's neediness and thrive off of it. universal donor & universal recipient, etc

trying to write something about how much i hate the ‘misandry in utena/the utena fandom’ crowd but it feels kind of redundant to me. i think i just don’t consider people who use the word ‘misandry’ serious people. i do however feel an obligation to occasionally make my position clear on that front, because im aware i tougapost and some people love to bring that guy up as the misandry in the utena fandom poster boy. which is so fucking stupid because touga is not victimised by ‘misandry’, touga is victimised by homophobic violence which is wrapped up in misogynistic violence, both of which are the cogs in the machine we call patriarchy. touga is not affected by misogyny in the same way that anthy is, that’s one of the key takeaways you can get from their being foils, and i don’t really like the whole ‘oh patriarchy hurts men too’ stuff because it neglects the fact that men reap so many material benefits from what some people deem ‘harm’ to them (emotional repression being the big one. it’s not great but when you’re the privileged party and gain power from it, who cares? it’s like the inverse of kozue trying to use sexuality to gain power: she can’t do that). but touga is a shitty dysfunctional person who has been shaped by violence and in turn perpetuated violence, and his character excels, imho, at examining how patriarchy functions and attempts to homogenise life’s many complexities. same deal as nanami really. they just play different roles in this gender essentialist nightmare that crunches out any grit. and you can extend that idea to all rgu characters but i am who i am and that is a kiryuu siblings enjoyer

Cringe is a byproduct of authenticity. They are inexorably intertwined, not in the way that something like yin and yang would be, but like how branches are part of a tree. There is no tree without the branches, and branches cannot grow if there is no tree. There is no true sincerity without cringe, and true cringe cannot be born from anything but sincerity.

I admire the authenticity in the things I love. The characters and people that are true to themselves, that express with no hesitance their most raw and most primal forms of themselves; they are who I adore. They are intentionally and wholeheartedly bombastic in their passions, so dramatically full-throttle with no inclination to step on the breaks. It feels wild to experience who they are– I feel like I am in their passenger seat with my head out the window, experiencing what it could be like if I, too, put my foot on the gas.

What is stopping me from loving my passionate self the way I love them?
