feeling real normal and fine over the fact that scar said “you can have a monopoly” while handing grian cacti. as they stood together in the sand. that is the Closest acknowledgement either of them have ever gotten to the cactus ring.

do you think that was scar’s way of trying to tell grian he misses him? that he truly does forgive him? that he never held anything against him for how things ended up on that mountain oh so long ago?

do you think that’s scar’s way of truly reaching out to him, saying it while talking in slightly more direct circles. that they can be okay again?

do you think, as scar holds the thorns of the cacti in his hands, feels them prick his skin (if he imagines, they feel like the thorns of a beautiful rose), he’s really just taking grian’s rough hands in his own and saying it’s okay.

i said this recently so i thought i will share this here, but i love it when the 9th doctor smiles

when the 9th doc smiles, it feels like a secret window into his well hidden joy, like a spark that we only see so rarely it makes you feel like the sun when you do

unlike the 10th doc for example, when the 10th doc smiles it feels like a part of his act (no matter if the act is sometimes true) (no bashing to the 10th doc of course i love him)

y’know what’s insane to think about with cleo winning? how cheerful they were. scott died and cleo was laughing in disbelief but then she just sing-songed and skipped over to a creeper and let it kill her. and there’s something they said that just ?? is sticking with me.

“no it’s how you want it to work!”

besides scott, we’ve never truly seen another else defy the watchers so… loudly like that. and I think there’s something amazing and beautiful about how differently cleo reacts to winning than the other winners. in the previous five games, our winners have always had this air of disparity around them in one form or another.

but not cleo. no, I’d even go as far as to say that cleo is excited that she won. there is no sadness. no heaviness around her (and maybe part of that is they didn’t keep themself alive long enough to feel it. maybe jogging up to that creeper was a way of saving herself from that pain. she’s outlived allies before. but this? living in an empty world? no… that’s something else entirely. that’s a pain she didn’t want to confront).

it’s so, so, interesting to me

there is something so… human about grian checking on this pet magma cube while there’s this zombie apocalypse happening. people are dropping like flies. the numbers of those unaffected are rapidly dwindling. and yet grian keeps going home to check on this pet magma cube.

sure it’s for a task, sure he’s required to or else he fails. but he didn’t have to continuously check on the magma cube the entire session. when things started to get crazy, he could’ve left it. he could’ve prioritized his own safety the whole session and wait until the end to check on the magma cube.

but he doesn’t. he actively goes out of his way more than once to make sure his magma cube is alive still. even when he’s left with one tiny magma.

he could’ve given up.

he throws some steak, his own food, at the magma cube. he breathes a little sigh of relief at seeing it there still. he goes back out after and continues to try and survive.

he could’ve given up.

he takes a potion of invisibility and runs past the infected, one thing on his mind, and it isn’t his own survival. he reaches home, his two allies are there. he checks the cage. he cheers.

he didn’t give up.

there’s something so human about grian continuing to care about this little magma cube amongst the chaos of death and blood and violence. something about humanity prevailing amongst despair, y’know?

there is something so chilling about how many times someone screamed “I need the time back!” or “I need 30 minutes back!” while going for a kill. they’re all determined to get a kill now, but what about when their timer runs out? how many people are going to run out of time mid chase? how many people are going to yell “I need more time!” and just. die right in the middle of yelling it? when do they start turning on each other in order to survive?

when does “I need time!” become something screamed in pure desperation, pure agony as they all become relentless, ruthless in their killing in a need to survive?

I’m going insane

grian going afk on a llama at first. scar coming over and seeing him on the llama, talking about how cute he is

joel repeatedly telling scar and cleo that they can’t steal grian. “he’s a bad boy you can’t make him a part of your team” “where’s our grian?”

scar setting up a rails to steal grian, making it seem like a rollercoaster. scar singing “I can show you the world” like it’s a past memory, a recollection, a reminder. it’s a secret shared only between grian and scar but grian isn’t around to hear it

cleo helping scar steal grian and they manage to successfully do it. joel and jimmy going to get him back

but what I’m Specifically stuck on is joel saying scar can’t make grian join his group. that he’s a bad boy. it’s joel and jimmy knowing damn well the connection that grian and scar have — that they will always have no matter the world. no matter the game. their souls are tied together so much that you can’t tell where one ends and where one begins.

and it’s joel trying to put his foot down and remind scar that grian didn’t chose him this time around. “he’s a bad boy” he’s not yours. he’s ours. you can’t have him.

yet scar tries anyway, because what is he if not perpetually stuck in the desert?

sometimes I can’t help but wonder why grian is the way he is, especially with scar. scar offers him unconditional love and compassion, no matter the world. third life they were partners. last life scar clearly wanted a team with grian in the beginning. double life was… very convoluted but there was still that love there. and teaming with grian in limited life seemed to be all that scar wanted.

and yet grian pushes and pulls. he pulls scar close, reaches for him. but just before scar can get too close, grian pushes him away.

he kills him. he steals from him. he does things that really, scar should hate him for.

and it makes me wonder why. I mean, grian has unconditional love being offered to him. but he never takes it. not fully at least. there’s always a surface level acceptance. he gives just enough but takes so much more.

and we all know “grian is scared of killing scar again after third life”, but I can’t help but think it goes so much deeper than that. because on some level, grian does reciprocate scar’s feelings. he does love scar. his actions say that much.

but he’s always pushing scar away. maybe it’s because he doesn’t want to believe that scar’s love isn’t just something that scar is going to take away; like pulling the rug out from under him. maybe it’s because grian is afraid of giving scar an opportunity to betray him first.

or maybe he’s scared of the vulnerability that comes with loving and being loved. so he hurts scar before scar can hurt him, and it’s a way of keeping himself self (while also breaking himself down without realizing it).

and scar? I think scar sees all of that. grian’s fears and his defense mechanisms. yet he loves him in despite of it all. he continues to offer grian love and kindness, even as grian stabs him in the back. even as grian pushes him away to protect both scar and himself.

it’s like scar is trying to coax a wounded animal out from the corner. he’s patient. he’s kind. he’s loving. and he tries to show grian that he can be dangerous too, so that maybe grian won’t feel as scared. he tries to show grian that his love really is unconditional, that it isn’t a trick.

but grian is so buried in his fears that he doesn’t see it.
