Frozen Through the Years
Yearly Spotlight: 2013 (Part 2)

The world's first exposure to Frozen from the teaser trailer gave almost no indication of what the plot of the movie was actually about. Hans Christian Andersen's “The Snow Queen" is an episodic journey of a young girl trying to save her friend from the powerful, but lonely Snow Queen. Frozen had whispers of that... but it turned out to be a very different story.
The film, instead, revolved around the of-age heroine, Princess Anna of Arendelle, and her journey alongside an unlikely group of allies to save her kingdom from the wintry magic of her sister, Queen Elsa. Anna does this by lovingly thawing Elsa’s frozen heart.
It was released on November 27, 2013.
It was different.
It was a massive hit.
It also brought several groundbreaking things along with it. First, it was only the second movie from Disney to be animated with the help of CGI (the first being Tangled released in 2008). Second, Frozen would go on to become the highest grossing animated film of all time (overcome only by its successor Frozen II). Within a short time, it received an unprecedented amount of awards, including an Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the 86th Academy Awards in 2014.
But most of all, through the love of the sisters Elsa & Anna, Frozen shared the revolutionary message that true love can exist anywhere and with anyone.

It's my all time favorite comfort movies and the fact that it lost to a damn Disney film still breaks my heart

City Of Angels
I was twenty-five when I first moved to Hollywood. Shortly before, my film Omar (2013) had received an Oscar nomination. The nomination was announced by Chris Hemsworth live at 4 AM in the morning. His voice pronouncing the words “FROM PALESTINE: OMAR” was deep and guttural, like an echo of a trumpet blown in a desolate and empty valley.
I spent the following eight months in the city.
To me, there is LA and there is Los Angeles. They both refer to the same "city of angels" for most people, but to my ears, they are quite different! Speaking strictly of sounds and their emotional stimulus, I mean - not letters - the frequency response slightly differs.
LA
Is where a downpour of rain occurred on the day of the 86th Academy Awards, where the streets turned into rivers of mud raging “there is so much dirt to clean.”
LA
Is where one dawn at 4AM - like two giant arms of a monster - an earthquake shook me and the couch I was sleeping on, waking me up in complete horror.
LA
Is where my heart broke for the first time, sharing my soul with those who did not speak the language of souls.
LA
Is where I cried driving down the highway, feeling sorry for a poem I could not write.
LA
Is where I had the worst nightmare of my life.
BUT
Los Angeles
Is an immense, white blank page holding space for a pure dream.

Is the land of the Wizard Of Oz & Hogwarts.
Los Angeles
Is where magic started and where it ends.
Los Angeles
Is a hope imploring: dream… dream… dream, especially for those living in the lands of buried dreams.

I knew that if I was only going to include one Red Carpet look, it would have to be this one! This is truly the epitome of a Cinderella moment...an incredibly talented actress winning an Oscar for her first film...and she wins the award wearing the most gorgeous dress. It is so timeless and elegant. I adore the pale blue color, I think it looks fantastic with her skin tone. And the dress is so light and airy...and those tiny pleats on the skirt create so much volume and movement. And it’s hard to tell in the photos, but the dress sparkles, too!
And I love that she paired the dress with those simple accessories...just the bracelets and the headband...and her Oscar, of course.
*and honestly, she has such great style, I could have picked any of her Red Carpet looks...but this one has always been a favorite...
