#thank god for the bomb ( deidara ; needlcss )

Starter for @needlcss
He can't get the image out of his mind.
Sasuke walking away, completely unscathed, from Orochimaru's bedroom. The blood that stained their walls, their floor, their bed. His Lord - no, his closest friend - horrifically torn to pieces by the very supposed vessel whose Sharingan they were meant to steal.
Despite the recently formed memories he's mentally subjected to, Kabuto moves quickly, making sure he isn't followed, and yet desperately traveling towards the abode of a certain artist he's come to know.

" ... Deidara? Are you here?" Kabuto's shaking as he knocks, hoping to get some comfort, maybe even a solution, from the only other friend he has left in this world. "Please let me in. I need to talk to you."

Kabuto beckons towards an examination table. “Sit down. I want to make sure it’s not your appendix, so please tell me whether it’s on the left or right side.”

@needlcss asked: 💭 - Deidara

“Does Deidara mind living alone? I’d offer him a place to stay in Otogakure, but I couldn’t guarantee that Orochimaru-sama wouldn’t try to persuade him to join our forces, and I think he likely wouldn’t appreciate that ... ”

Presents! - Accepting
@needlcss asked: "Hey here." Deidara hands Kabuto a pair of new comfy house slippers and a hot meal (grilled trout over white rice). "I didn't know what else to get, hm. So I cooked." - Deidara to Kabuto
Thank you! Please ask before continuing.
“Oh! Thank you so much. You didn’t have to get me anything, you know,” Kabuto says, though of course he gratefully accepts Deidara’s gift. “This trout looks delicious, and I have been in the market for a new pair of slippers. I appreciate your generosity.”
After he speaks, however, Kabuto suddenly disappears. He can be heard busying himself with his dresser, pulling out a wrapped package from where it’s been hidden away before presenting it to his friend.

“Here! I tried my hand at making you something from clay. I know it’s not as good as yours, you being the artist and all, but I wanted to give it a solid effort anyway.”

“He’s just part of a story that parents tell their children around Christmas time. Allegedly, if you’re well-behaved, he gives you presents, and if you aren’t, he gives you coal. Of course, Santa always had Mother’s handwriting, and once I was made into a Shinobi, I didn’t get a thing, so ... Well. Let’s just say I learned rather quickly that he was nothing more than a child-friendly lie.”

“Oh, not at all. I don’t celebrate any holidays.”
Such a choice on the doctor’s part hadn’t always been his preference, of course. For when Kabuto lived in the orphanage with Nono, Urushi, and the rest of the orphans and caretakers, he very much enjoyed such celebrations - he enjoyed feeling like part of a family.
“Of course, you’re welcome to stop by Otogakure if you don’t want to be alone. Orochimaru-sama won’t object to giving me some time off. Actually, I might even cook something for the three of us, if I can get the entire day free.”
