Hi, saw you mention missing writing for Revali. Was curious how would you envision (HCs) a Revali that survived Calamity (AoC) but a time skip passes and the events of Totk begin?
Hello! Thanks for your suggestion, I honestly have been thinking and debating on this for quite some time. It seems like it's time that I finally put my ideas out in the world! My first time doing HCs but I hope you enjoy it!
Revali surviving the Calamity and his life with his spouse:
I like to think Revali gained some sort of scar from the fight with Windblight Ganon.
A long scar in the form of a beam that goes across his chest and the side of his neck when he got hit.
From an outsider’s perspective, it didn’t seem that deep, but the medics concluded it was much of an injury to tell him he shouldn’t exert much into physical activities.
Unfortunately, he still does overtrain from time-to-time to the dismay of his, now, spouse.
On top of that, he still leads the rito warriors, organizing the operations and their duties to protect Rito Village. Sometimes, he takes hours just training and planning with the village elder.
It takes a lot of convincing to get him to rest, but the moment he sees the desperation in your eyes, he sighs and heads home with your arm wrapped in his.
"Revali."
"I know, I… I’m sorry"
Since the calamity, Revali has been trying to be better at depending on others, especially since he’s chosen to have you in his life, not wanting to hurt you more by shutting you out.
Still, bad habits die hard. At the very least, he tries.
Getting home, it became a habit to lightly caress the scar on his chest as you both lie in your shared hammock.
The sensation bothered him for the first couple of months, but eventually, he couldn't sleep without it.
It's like a comforting feeling that he's alive, lucky enough to survive and live with you. Fortunate enough to see Hyrule again in its glory; For that, he's extremely grateful to Goddess Hylia.
There are a lot of days where he wakes up in the middle of the night.
Throat dry and eyes wide, awakened by the nightmare that haunts him in the form of Windblight Ganon.
It’s only when he feels your body lean towards him in the hammock when he relaxes.
On most days, you wake up feeling his panic, consoling and letting him find comfort in your embrace.
But in the rare instance you stay asleep, he takes a walk or a flight just around the village.
There is just this one time where you woke in the middle of the night, looking for his warm blanket of wings in your shared hammock.
In a panic, you ran around the village. It was only when you noticed a string of smoke from the flight range that you finally let go of the breath you didn’t know you were holding.
Still a bit sleepy, you make your way to him. Finding him, staring at his bow once more with paranoia in his eyes.
Your embrace wakes him up from the thoughts that plagued his mind, his tears made yours water in response.
Since then, he has been trying his best to wake you up on those nights; Trying to actually ask for help, knowing that he doesn’t have to be alone anymore.

Bewitched
Pairing: Revali x GN Hylian Reader Summary: Revali took you on a date, before heading home. He brings you to the tallest tower in Hyrule Castle, determined to give you something. Themes: Romance, Fluff Word Count: 1,251 A/N: Once again, the reader is honestly heavily based off of my OC, Lillia. Here, it is said that Reader works in Hyrule Castle as a scholar. I also had to add in once again, I wrote this with Laufey’s newest release, Bewitched, in mind so I definitely recommend listening to that! Either way, enjoy!
Today was the day. Today, both you and Revali have found time to go on a date. The calamity has kept you both out of arm's reach. You worked with scholars and scientists to ensure all safety measures were met when it revives, which kept you mostly stapled to your desk, writing away. While Revali has been busy training the Rito warriors and himself to face the calamity and keep his people safe.
You held him close as he flew you both to the top of Hyrule castle. It was easier to have dates within Central Hyrule, as it was much safer and it doesn’t tire Revali as much when he flies you. It wasn’t that Revali minded or thought you were heavy, but he would rather conserve energy for your dates and so that he could protect you when things turn to worse. Thankfully, it hasn’t happened and he hopes he never does have to fight anything within your dates.
Settling down on the bell tower on the top of the castle, you stood against the railing, enjoying the view overlooking all of Hyrule. This was one of the times you wondered how much of the castle you have not gone to or seen yet. Working in the castle, you usually kept yourself in the same areas on a daily basis so you were curious how many rooms are hidden in this big and quite ancient castle. Revali, settles beside you, putting his wings behind his back before coughing to pull you out of your wandering thoughts. You were startled for a second before giggling realising what caused Revali to cough. You, then, wrapped your arm around his wing.
“I’m sorry about that, Vali. I was just quite curious about the castle.” You sigh as you lean your head on him, “Just how much do we not know of the world, I wonder. Don’t you think it’s fascinating how much we could still discover?” Your smile reaches your eyes as you look at him. His gaze filled with love and adoration as he replies, “I’d agree, but don’t thoughts like this overwhelm you? Imagine all the things you still have to know and learn. I’m honestly amazed at what you don’t know, you are a royal scholar after all.” He chuckles then continues, “I might as well have to always be by your side, at the very least, to save you from floating away from reality.” His teasing causes you to pout as he laughs, his laugh was genuine and relaxed like it came from his heart. He looks you in the eye once more, “I’m kidding, but you should seriously be more cautious for yourself. Who knows where you’d wander off when I’m not with you.” He smirks as you jab him playfully in the rib. “Stop teasing me, I’m capable on my own, Vali.” You replied to his teasing to which he replied with a chuckle. Settling down, you both stood watching the view overlooking Hyrule, you caressed his wing. His feathers always fascinated you, the way they form and have a pattern going down to his hand-wing. You both settled in the silence, your touch relaxing him as he closed his eyes.
After a while he speaks again, “Ah, before I forget.” He took your hand, noticing your small palm and the ink smears from writing, he smiles loving how hard-working you were. He takes something from his scarf before placing it on your palm. It was his feather.
Your face showed confusion as you accepted the feather. It wasn’t that you found it unusual that he gave you a feather, but it was more so that this was the second feather he gave to you. The first, you made it into a hair accessory.
While twisting it around you realised that its tip had been carved out to a quill. Gasping you look at him with fondness, realising his thoughtfulness. “Revali…” You said softly as you smiled. He looked away, quite embarrassed but glanced at your smile.
“Well, at this rate, our duties keep us both busy. You’re so busy with your writing while we both know how much I still have to train. So, I’d like to at the very least leave you something.” He pauses as he watches you gaze fondly at the feather, then continues “That way, I’ll be sure I’m on your mind at all times” He huffs proudly at the latter part, leading you to giggle and send a kiss on his beak. His feathers shift and puff up. You don’t get to kiss him like that often but wherever you do, it flusters him to the core. He coughs, trying to maintain his composure.
“You’re always so sweet, Revali.” You said softly as you raised your hand to let your fingers glide along the quill he gave you. “You’re quite thoughtful, but I couldn’t dare to use this. I might ruin the nib and deem it unusable.” Your eyebrows furrow as you notice how delicate his carving on the quill’s nib is, you hide it in your satchel, hoping not to lose it anytime soon. Revali sneers then whispers something that you didn’t catch. You tilt your head curiously as you look at your partner.
“What was it, Vali?” Raising your hand you took a hold of his beak and gently pushed it to face you. “You said something, I didn’t catch it.” You softly say as he gets flustered again.
His eyes look away from you as he says, “You… could always ask for more. It’s not like I couldn’t make more.” He says quietly. Your eyes go wide then soften as you call his name, “Oh, Revali.” You nuzzle your head on his beak, his whole body tenses up as it was his turn to be surprised. It was a high sign of affection among Rito culture.
You throw him off, in every second he tries to be cool, to be composed and reserved as you, he gets thrown off. It confuses him, confuses him how much his chest started to hurt when you were so affectionate, how he couldn’t think straight around you. How your touch overwhelms him to the point he’s shy to admit he craves it more. To confess how your touch bewitched him to the point he comes apart, making him wish to drown in your touch. He loved you, he knew that well. He hadn’t admitted it, feeling as if it was too soon and with the calamity, it was a commitment to say he did. He told himself he’ll settle to be in your mind, to confess his attraction and nothing more. But with every date, every memory he made with you, his heart kept pushing himself towards you. To let you know that among all things in the world, it was by your side he wanted to be with, that he wanted to one day, after all this was over, he would settle down and watch every sunset with you.
He fell, and he fell so badly in love with you.
He was lost in his thoughts until he felt you take his wings and wrap it around yourself. You embraced him, and the sensation of you this close to him, consumed him. He closed his eyes as he nuzzled you back. “How dare you bewitch me.” He says softly with fondness, then you knew, you just knew. You closed your eyes and whispered in his ear, “I love you too, Revali.”

Lovesick
Pairing: Revali x GN Hylian Reader Summary: Revali couldn’t forget the way your lips touched his beak the day after your first date.  Themes: Romance, Fluff Word Count: 1,416 A/N: Could or couldn’t be connected to Bewitched, it’s up to you! Enjoy!
The cold winter air rushes through the champion’s hut, the sound of feathers rustling as well as windmills turning hits Revali in the early dawn of Rito Village. The heat of the morning sun rouses the sleeping champion, signalling the end of a night-long slumber. Sitting up and gently massaging his shoulders, he closes his eyes as he adjusts from his drowsy state. The tight hold of his shoulders reminds him of your fingers from the night before. His eyebrows furrow, remembering the memory. He grunts as he looks at the wing that he used, closing his eyes once more and lying once more on his hammock.
“Horrible. Absolutely just terrible.” He whispered to himself as his feathers puffed up around his warm and flustered body. Feeling the way you held him, the way your lips met with his beak, the look you gave him after the kiss. It overwhelmed him. He fell apart from your gentle contact with his body as he fell deeper and deeper into his feelings for you.
He moved his body, pushing himself to get out of the hammock, out of the daydreams of your fingers around his wing. He lands on his talons, the sound of it creaking the boards of his hut as he sighs. Approaching his shelf close to the entrance of his home, he notices a familiar cloth at its ledge. Picking it up, the scent of you fills his nostrils, as a warm smile graced his features. The small cloth draped around the edges of his wing as he held it fondly. Before you both parted from one another from your date, you gave him your handkerchief. It wasn’t a grand gift but it comforted Revali, remembering the expression on your face when you gave it to him. ‘Lovesick’ was what you called it.
His mind retraces once more to your touch, the arm you had around him, the hand gently caressing his beak; Inching closer, closing any distance as your soft lips marked itself gently on his beak.
Revali’s heart beats faster as his mind races, he takes a deep breath to still his heart, but closing his eyes just paints a more vivid picture. He stood still, letting the warm sunlight wake up and engulf his body. Just as the thoughts slowly fade from his mind, a knock and a voice pierces through him.
“I hope it’s not too early for a visit, Vali.”
His head whips fast enough to hurt as his eyes widen and his beak slightly agape. “Ah- What are you doing here so early?” Trying to hide the handkerchief behind his back as he stares at you with shock. You giggle as you give him a smile, “Good morning too, Vali. Can I come in?” Revali huffs in disbelief then tries to gather his composure. “Of course, of course. How come you’ve come here so early in the morning?” Taking a pillow and setting it down for you to sit in as he took a seat on another, placing the handkerchief somewhere hidden. You gave him a shy smile as you moved your pillow a bit closer to his.
“Well, I was just in town, you know?”
“How can one even just be in town when they’re from Central Hyrule, huh?” Revali’s expression softens as he sees you flustered and avoiding his gaze.
You were silent for a bit. He watched you bite your lip slightly before you sighed and spoke, “I felt a bit… lonely when I woke up, I still have a few hours before work so I wanted to see you, you know…”
“Explains why you’re here at like… 6 in the morning. You wanted to see me that badly?” He leans towards you, towering your figure slightly. He had a smirk plastered on his face, disbelief and pride emitting him as you grew redder. Putting your hands on his bare shoulders, he jolts, feathers puffing up. You were silent again and as he looked at your face, there it was again; That same ‘Lovesick’ expression.
Your eyes looked at his, wetting your lips a bit and gulping. The anxiousness was about to seep in as you trembled to hold his cheek, to which he leaned into, letting you relax and sigh happily, “Is there anything wrong with missing you, Vali?”
His eyes search through yours again, looking for any indication of a ruse, a set up to put his guard down yet sees nothing but endearment through your expression.
Revali huffs a bit, you hear a hint of worry and adoration. “There’s nothing wrong with that but to think you travelled far to greet me in the morning… This lovesickness of yours is making you reckless, travelling so early in the morning.” Sighing as he gently cradled your free hand. “It would’ve been safer if you let me fly to you, there’s too many dangers in the ground.”
You chuckled and moved your hand, gently touching the underside of his beak, petting it slowly. His eyes widened as he felt goosebumps all over his body, humming involuntarily to your touch, your damned touch. He was about to speak once more, scolding you for such actions before you cut him off and said,
“I’m not going to sit around for the chance and probability that you’ll visit me, Vali. I wanted to see you, and I was going to see whether you like it or not.” Your eyes showed conviction as you continued to pet his beak. He trembled slightly and sighs, “You’re quite the Hylian, I fear it’s a trait you lot have; The recklessness and courage to do something absolutely absurd.”
You laugh softly not denying it, hearing the endearment in his insult. You both stayed as is in the comfortable blanket of silence. Just the chirping of chicks, the light humming from him, and the breeze of the Hebra region.
Yawning a bit, you noticed how high the sun was getting. Your mouth gracing an expression of dissatisfaction when realizing you’ll have to go soon. Sighing, you said, “I’ll have to get ready to go back to the castle again.” You stopped petting him, much to his dismay. Standing up, you felt the blood return to your legs, weakening them and causing you to stumble over. Revali was quick to stand and catch you before you fell on the wooden floors, “Slow down, you’ll hurt yourself.”
The way your arms were wrapped around his and your head touching his bare feathered chest, it drove you both crazy. You heard his heart beat faster and louder in his chest making yours try and rival it.
The feeling of his soft feathers around your head like some sort of pillow, soothed you, impulsively nuzzling yourself into the comfort and warmth of his chest. Revali tenses up with your affection, he didn’t know what to do and feared if he looked down on you, he’d definitely, definitely not survive.
He decides to cough a bit, clearing the air and standing you up, “…you have to be more careful, yes.” He silently said as he scratched a bit on his beak, looking elsewhere, far from your disheveled hair and fond expression that he knows will weaken him.
You then laughed, a hearty laugh. He looked at you with brows furrowed and titled his head; The way your skin was kissed by the sun, your messy hair swaying a bit by the winter air, and your laugh melding in with the morning chirps of the sleepy chicks, giving much more life to the music around him.
His throat ran dry as he watched you, entirely and utterly bewitched by your very existence.
“Could one really find a cure to lovesickness? It feels so difficult to stop myself from messing up around you, I think I was just born with it.” You joked as your smile and loving gaze met him. He chuckled and then shook his head, “Maybe so, maybe so.” You took a step towards him, the floor beneath creaking a bit. Your hands tangled themselves between his feathers as your lips kissed his beak.
The feeling of it, the warmth pressed against his beak, it drove him crazy. He wrapped his wing around you as well, sheltering you from the cold winter as he leaned in the nuzzle against your neck after you kissed him.
Closing his eyes and chuckled, “Goddess Hylia, I might’ve caught it. I might’ve turned lovesick, dear, what have you done to me?”

Snowbird
Pairing: Revali x GN Hylian Reader Summary: Visiting Revali today ended up in archery training, wholesome banter, and a lot of fears with the rise of Calamity Ganon. Themes: Romance, Fluff, Slight Angst Word Count: 2,737 A/N: Another x reader because I noticed not many people really make fics talking about how they felt or how it was before the calamity, that or I haven't read much. Anyways, I hope you enjoy it, it's crossposted to my ao3!
It was a freezing day in the Tabantha Region. Today marks a few months since you've started living in Rito Village. Having a daily routine of checking in with villagers and helping them out when they needed, it's a normal occurrence that you bump into the Rito Champion more than once, sometimes, it happens on a daily basis. That Rito has the ego and pride of a lion but still is sweet at heart when the situation permits. Eventually, you both established a bond and became friendly with each other.
Your tasks from villagers range from killing a few bokoblins to delivering something to certain people. Well, the latter is how you end up in the flight range as you jokingly asked Revali to teach you the bow. You went to the training grounds, bringing food for the Rito Champion as requested by the village elder. When you curiously wondered how training under Revali would be, and so you asked and that's how you ended up in the situation you are in now.
"I'm giving you a private lesson here, only because I think your bond with me is worthy enough for it." He hands you the swallow bow and walks a few feet away from you, not meeting your eyes.
"There are many rules in learning the art of archery, if you are wanting to learn… You better not be slacking." He said sternly as he took a glance. His back turned to you as you nervously held the swallow bow he entrusted to you. "Now the art of archery may have a lot of rules." He spoke with pride before turning to you with a smile, "But the first thing you need to remember is holding that bow with confidence. Go, show me how you hold your bow."
You gave him a weak smile as you tried to mimic how he aims as you aim at one of the targets. "You know, you haven't even taught me how to hold it yet." You said as you fumbled and strained yourself, he sighs as he watches you struggle to keep your posture. Approaching you, he gives you a comforting smile then teases, "I don't know what you'll do without me." Causing you to roll your eyes and reply, "Well, I asked only because I wanted to see what devastating training you put your warriors in." A chuckle erupts from you as you watch him hum, ignoring your comment, and moving to your side. He raised his wing, gently caressing your hand and the upper side of your back to help with your posture. His face was focused but being in close contact with your friend, you can't seem to hide the blush on your face.
"What did I say about confidence? Stand tall and don't be too nervous. You have to stay focused and trust yourself with the bow. Your arms will just get more unstable if you keep letting the bow take control of you." He pats the lower part of your back as he gives the lesson, making you jolt and yelp in surprise. The arrow that you were holding makes a beeline for the target, hitting the outermost ring. He chuckles at your reaction, earning a pout from you. He gave you a smirk before teasing you, "You lack focus. I was just guiding you and you jolted like a horse when I softly patted you."
After a while of playful banter, you both relaxed and looked at where your arrow ended up. You gave a nervous chuckle and said, “Well, at least it’s at the target. I say a hit is still a hit.” He rolls his eyes then laughs. "If it were a real monster, there is no outer ring and they'll most likely be moving, then most likely, you'll die before you get a hit." He states as he flies up and shoots a few rings to demonstrate and to show off to you. He then looks at you and says, “You’ll figure it out! You’re smart enough for that, right?” He ignores your groans in irritation as he continues to show off. "You could be such a jerk at times." You said as you sighed, watching him continue his exhibition.
Well, that's Revali, he has good intentions but he couldn't control his desire to show off. It happens from time to time, earning praises and cheers from the crowd. Little would you know he was showing off more towards you, trying to get your attention and praises as if he was a bird trying to flaunt their qualities for their chosen mate.
You held your bow and went back to training, you tried your best to aim at the target again. Steadying your bow, breathing in as you took your time before shooting the target. But when you noticed a flock of birds pass by you decided to give it a try and aim at them.
“Might as well give it a shot, maybe I could have something to prove to Revali.” You thought as you breathed in to take your shot.
You release but the arrow misses them by a feather, shooting upwards piercing the cold air. Not even a second since you released it, Revali returns to you. "I've got a better idea on how I could possibly teach you the ropes." He says proudly as he lands in front of you, "You may have no experience at all, but if you take the lessons that-"
His voice was silenced from your mind as you noticed something shine in the sun above both of you. The arrow from before comes rushing down on you both. Your eyes widened and as time slowed down, you pushed yourself onto Revali, hard.
"H-hey!" He stutters as you both were sent off the railing of the platform and onto the snow bed below. "What was that for?!" He exclaims as he tries to look for you in the snow. The impact sent you flying a bit further but not by much. Revali stands up quickly dusting himself off before going to you.
"You better have a good explanation for putting us both in danger-"
"The arrow I shot to the sky fell down." You cut him off and said quietly as you focused your attention to the sky.
Revali was going to continue on his ramblings about archery and safety but he noticed how little you seemed interested. "Did you hit your head or something? Why are you staring at the sky?" He asked, worry was in his voice but he was more intrigued than anything. He looked up and he saw Vah Medoh flying up in the sky. He still looked confused as he returned his gaze to you, "What's with the Divine Beast Vah Medoh?"
Your eyes were closed for a minute, "Nothing, nothing… Just humour me for a bit, Revali." You say softly as you lay in the bed of snow peacefully, patting the snow next to you. He shrugs but decides to lie down next to you in the snow.
"Have you ever had time to stop and think about it?" You say as your eyes flutter open and watch the beast fly.
"I'm not sure what you're getting at." He said as he furrowed his eyebrows.
"Well, all of you champions are surely talented and skilled enough to protect your villages… But have you ever wondered who the pilots of the divine beasts were before? What trials and what reasons did they have for being chosen?" You say with a small smile and close your eyes for a bit, "I wonder if your ancestor was just as cocky as you are." Teasing him, you looked to your side where he lies, he didn't notice what you said and thought back to your question. It wasn't rare that Revali doesn't notice the things you say, you knew he had lots of things in his mind, that they cause him fear and anxiety under that persona he shows. You turn your head back to Vah Medoh as it flies high above them, gliding in the wind like a giant majestic eagle.
It was a while in silence before Revali opened his beak and said, "I never thought of that, if I was honest. Truly, I have no time for such small things but I'd like to humour you this once."
"I think those previous champions are just ashamed they couldn't put an eternal end to Calamity Ganon. I would be if we couldn't."
There it was, the nightmare of many, the Calamity. You usually run away from it, the prophecy and its probable effects in your mind, but it's eventuality haunts you. You loved your life in Rito Village, you loved how things were now, you loved spending time with your friend, Revali, no matter how much of a jerk he could be at times. It was hard to think that a big calamity could change everyone's lives for the rest of their time living in Hyrule. Silence fills the void between you both as you both lie in the snow.
Revali, honestly, thought the same in the silence. The people here, the rich culture, the bonds and the life. They're all things he wishes aren't affected by the calamity when it comes. He'll miss the chicks singing in the morning, training others as well in the flight range. Above all, he'll miss you in all of it. The way he'll see you smile as you approach him, the little stories he hears from your adventures and tasks there. It's all the things in his daily life, he wasn't sure he wanted to change but he knew much that he needed to protect.
"Do you think we have a better chance?" You say, the anxiety crawling up your neck and grasping your throat as if it's stopping you from talking. Revali chuckles nervously and says, "We should be, there's no other choice. I'm up there as a support! Surely, just surely, when that little hero falls back and begs for me to save him, I'll swoop in and kill that calamity in a shot." He smugly boasts, hiding the anxiety in his own voice as you giggle, "I don't doubt you could do it, but just be more careful, even when the calamity is dead and gone, there's no saying that the village will ever not be in danger. We could still use your skills and protection, Revali."  There was a smile and truth to your words as you try to erase the possibility of his death from your mind.
"I'm sure I'll be fine, I'm never not ready and in control of the situation. Despite that, I can't make any promises when the time comes." Softly he says as he closes his eyes and sighs, "Rito Village depends well on me and the protection of Vah Medoh, I'd gladly risk it all for them."
Snow piles up on both of your bodies as the light of the sun very slowly melts it away.
"I know" you said but it sounded like you were talking to no one. Like it was a confirmation to yourself, to remind yourself of the reality that is Calamity Ganon.
When silence hits you both, It wasn't an awkward silence, just a knowing one. It spoke loudly as it echoed the chaos that may happen when the calamity finally arrived. What could happen to Revali honestly terrified you both. Revali was all for risking his life and his future for the sake of his people, but that was when he didn't have much to lose. But now, he couldn't stand and afford to see your face so dejected and defeated.
It was deafening with how loud the silence was but you were determined to break it, letting go of the overwhelming feeling of fear as you said, "Have you ever thought of settling down after the calamity?"
Revali's feathers puff up all of a sudden as he sits up and faces you, flustered by your question, "W-wait, what? What does that have to do with anything?! With the calamity?!"
His mind goes wild as his heart races, 'Don't people who only have interest ask that? You don't just casually ask that after some deep thoughts about life, death and survival! Why does she have to fluster me like that when I'm off my guard!'
You give him a smile, finding comfort in his flusteredness and say, "Well, I was just thinking of what it could be like in the future where the calamity is defeated. I wonder if you'll have little chicks… But then again, I wonder if those chicks are just as snarky and impatient as you are." You teased him and chuckled. He loved your smile, that much was true, but he couldn't let you get away with teasing. He rolled his eyes then replied to you, "Well, I'm sure your little Hylian children would just be as chatty as you, maybe even just as nosy too." You both laughed and when the laughter died down, you both had smiles on your faces. Revali lies down once again beside you, letting the snow comfort his form.
"Seriously though, have you ever thought about settling down and having anything other than training? What if you don't really need to train anymore?" You say as you glance at your side, Revali's face was comfortable and relaxed, you could even say he seemed at home. It warms your heart to see your friend's guard down like this. It warms you that he trusts you enough to be like this around you, and you made a promise to yourself you'll keep him safe in these moments.
"Well, I think I'm better off a few more years alone, maybe go on an adventure or train future warriors on how to be better. I'm not sure if I really found one to settle down with yet, I don't mind if I never do…" He hums as he looks a bit embarrassed. His beak feels dry as he lies when he says he hasn't found someone he'd like to settle down with.
You've always been by his side and took care of him, so that for once he didn't have to feel like he had to carry the burden all by himself. At first, he despised it; Leaning onto someone for the weakness he couldn't overcome but despite that, with every look on your face, the absolute care and loyalty you had to him. It took his heart and warmly blew on it, that the wind carried his sorrows away.
He coughs and continues, "But it would be a nice thing to imagine… Waking up to someone next to you and looking forward to going home… Don't you agree?"
He looks at you expectantly, somehow, it's like he was searching for some hint of affection you had for him but you kept your gaze focused on the sky.
"Hmm, for me? I agree too but just… I hope whoever it may be, they'll be my best friend. I want to have a laugh with them while staying safe in their arms, you know?" You chuckle as you sit up, your eyes meeting with his. It was a moment of connection, but you both denied it was something more, afraid of what could be and the feelings that'll hurt when the calamity eventually comes. You blinked away as you stilled your beating heart and said, "Well, that's enough thoughts for today, don't you think?"
You stood then helped Revali up who had a curious look on his face. He tries to hide his flusteredness when you mentioned 'best friend'. He thought to himself but chuckled and whispered,
"It couldn't be, right?" to which you replied to him with a confused hum as you walked back towards the village.
He shakes his head, reassuring you, "It's nothing, don't mind it" He says softly as he denies any possibility that you may actually like him back but a smile crept on his face as he looked at you fondly. He gives in and thinks to himself as you stopped and stood, waiting for him. He watched your figure as he caught up to you; His mind's thoughts were calm today, except for the lone thought.
'Maybe after the calamity, when all is done and safe, I could be your best friend.'

Let You Break My Heart Again
Pairing: Revali x GN! Hylian Reader Summary: You and Revali have been friends for some time despite your differences before. You worked/lived in Hyrule Castle Town for most of your time and finally found time today to visit your dear friend. Themes: Romance, Angst, Unrequited Love Word Count: 1,661 A/N: Reader is honestly heavily based off of my OC, Lillia, but since this is my first rodeo, I kind of wanted to make it for everyone, so here you go! I also suggest listening to Laufey’s Let You Break My Heart Again. Tell me if you’d like a sequel too because I’ve been thinking of some things.
It's been quite some time since you've last visited Rito Village. Your duties at Hyrule Castle Town never dwindled for the past months at all. Today, however, you've found some time to ride your stead up to Rito Village, a place where you found comfort for most of your days.
Giving your horse a pet and leaving him at the Rito Stable, You breathe in as the cool air brushes your ears slightly. You sigh as you take in its sights. The sound of chirping from the little chicks welcomes you as you make your way into the village.
Greeting guards as you pass by, as well as some other friends you've made before, you make your way to greet the village elder. On your way there, a very fond friend of yours catches your attention as he stands on his own landing, Revali's Landing.
"Well, if it isn't you. Took you quite a while to visit me and I could tell from the look on your face, you've missed me very much." He snarkily remarks as he makes his way to you, his wings holding each other on his back. You scoff but give him a slight smile, "Well, Is it bad that maybe I have?" You say with fondness as Revali is quite taken aback, the feathers on his neck puffing up as he shakes his head to the side. "As you should." He replies softly, quite obviously embarrassed. You chuckle as you watch your friend.
Approaching the landing, feeling the cold air all around you. It felt truly like home. You approached the edge, holding onto the railing and looked at Revali. "It's nice to see Rito Village still be the quiet and humble place I've grown to love." You said as you smiled and looked up at the slightly taller Rito. He quickly retaliates with a huff, "Well, even without you here, we would have been fine like we've always been." Revali has always been sharp with his tongue and a bit insensitive at times but after spending time as his friend, you've learned to see through this proudness and aloofness of his.
You look at him, glancing at his bright emerald eyes. You tell him, "Well, I would honestly say I'm glad to hear it, I know as well that I have to thank you for keeping this place safe too, Revali." Giggling a bit before giving him a genuine smile and a slight bow as you thank him. His feathers puff up again and he avoids your eyes. It's not that Revali isn't used to such politeness, but it's more that he finds it embarrassing that you acknowledge his credit so easily. "But of course, I excel well for the village. It would be disappointing if the Rito’s champion would let any harm come close. Besides, I would say that we, Ritos, have great taste." He says proudly as you chuckle.
Silence fills the air once more. ‘Has it always been this awkward between us both?’ You thought as you tighten your grip on the railing slightly, your heart beated loudly in your chest as your ears are filled with the deafening silence.
"Enough of this small talk, I've got no time for such. What matters do you have in the village?" He curiously asks, breaking the silence.
You stayed silent for a few moments, thinking over the reason why you came to the village in the first place, why you wanted so much to escape your duties for a day to visit Rito Village.
You breathe in getting ready for what you were about to say. "I… I really wanted to… No, I needed to take time off. It was a bit suffocating back home.” You say a bit solemnly before you hear Revali say quietly, “I see.”
The silence returned for a few moments as you looked at your hands as your nails slightly dug into the dark pine wood. The cold felt like it was seeping into your snowquill coat. Feeling a bit overwhelmed by the silence, you bit your lip slightly then looked at Revali.
“I also… I also honestly wanted to see you, Revali."
Gently let go of your grip on the railing as you finally said it all. You give him a tired smile as a slight blush dusts your cheeks.
You've grown fond of the Rito as much as you've had with the village. Sharing memories, as well as, little connections through your hobbies have made him a great friend to you. His brilliance in archery and flight, you've thought are all reasons for his growing ego and found it cute. In moments like these, when you both just need time to stop and let silence fill the void, you both found comfort in being there together.
He chuckles as he realizes the situation and faces you. “I would honestly say, I’m honored to have you want to see me.” He teases you a bit before watching the view in front of him once more. He wasn’t the type to really admit he felt the same, but you knew with the way he phrased it, he was just as glad to see you as well. It brought a smile to your face as you let out a giggle. You loosened up and then asked, “How about you, Revali? How have you been? I’ve noticed you’ve been nicer to me today.”
His prussian blue feathers slightly puff up in the wind as he relaxes before he starts, "Well if you must know…” His voice trails off as he puts his wings on the railing as well for support. He was hesitant and it showed. He closes his eyes for a bit before facing you, staring at your eyes directly. "I've grown fond of someone in the village and… She has... returned my affections as well." He says rather quietly but a hint of pride can be heard in his voice.
You blink as you hear this. His words didn’t processed to you as quickly as it should nor as you had imagined. As a Hylian, you knew your affections wouldn't value much to the Rito, accepting that the anatomical differences might have affected his attraction to your Hylian nature, but was it really that impossible of an idea that you could’ve been together?
Your mind was empty save for the echoing words of his affections for this other Rito. Affection, how much you craved his. You were silent which concerned the Rito quite a bit. He calls your name softly and it rips your heart even more. Even after the revelation, the fondness of how he says your name takes hold of your heart so gently. You couldn’t help but despise it and yet, your arms tremble wanting to be in his embrace. You shook your head as you composed yourself, trying to be as supportive as you could to your friend.
"That's great, Revali. I wouldn't peg you to be the type to fall in love at all." You teased as you tried to fake a smile to him, causing him to puff up his feathers again and looking away from you. "Wh- You really think I'm not capable of that!? You think that I didn’t have the ability to fall in love?!" He scoffs at your words, sounding offended by your teasing but knowing of your usual teasing. You reply to him with a smile, “Couldn’t help it if the only few words that come out of your mouth are training, pride, and greatness. All of which, directed to yourself.” He opens his mouth in disbelief and crosses his arms quite a bit before you look back out into the region once more.
Revali settles down and sighs, "... I just thought it would be fair that you knew, as a... friend of mine." It took quite some time before he said the last part but he did so anyway. His words sting more than they should, as if the back of your neck felt a prickling down your spine. You both were silent. The winds of the Tabantha region blow as you hear the ruffling of cloths and feathers. It felt agonizing to you both and yet, you knew, you’ve told yourself before. You’ve told yourself before that the day would come for you to bear the burden you’ve let grow in your heart as you’ve fallen for your Rito friend.
You broke the silence first, realizing the more you stayed, the more your thoughts may wander. "It's great to hear that, Revali. I.. I wish you two the best." You give him a genuine smile before giving him a nod, looking back at him. Revali was looking for your gaze but couldn’t find it, as if you were looking far beyond him, lost in thought. You’ve said your goodbyes, saying that you have some things to do for now which left him on the railing of his landing. He stayed and stood there against the railing, staring out through the snow with a confused look on his face for his friend's sudden exit.
You sigh as you walk down the steps, you lose your energy to talk to the village elder and everyone to that extent. Entering the inn, you laid on the bed you rented out for the day. It was still bright and early in the afternoon as you watched the blue skies out.
It drove you insane. Your feelings drilling down your heart, your eyes glossy over those thoughts. You lay on your side, slowly raising your legs to your chest. "You held up well" you told yourself quietly as you held your hands together. The grip tightens at every thought you've had with him being with his beloved.
As they held hands, they shared an embrace, they had their first kiss. It ruined you.
"One day" You whispered to yourself as the tears fell, "I'll stop falling in love with you."
