Welcome to WOLF NOTES, where interview questions stray from the rest of the pack. It’s nice to know the usual stuff like where an author gets their inspiration and why they write, but sometimes we need a little fun in our lives.
Wolf: Give a big wolf welcome to Esther T. Jones.
A voracious reader, Esther T. Jones has been writing stories in her head since she was five. She calls the United…

Tedenbarr of Have Lath by Esther T. Jones
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Tedenbarr is a slave on a ship. All he can think of is returning to his home, Have Lath, and the woman he loves, Keira.
This book had interesting characters, whose adventures I enjoyed reading about. Although the book moved slowly in a series of bad luck, good luck, the book was not very predictable. I really wanted to like this book, but it was a bit slow paced for me, and the dialogue was difficult for me to read, since many of the characters spoke with thick accents, and I’d have to read a line of dialogue three or four times to understand what one sentence meant, then I had to reread the paragraph the remember what the character was saying. So, this book did give me a new appreciation for the ELLs I’ve worked with who keep reading, despite it being a struggle. Overall, this was a story about one man’s great adventure to return home.

FEATURE FRIDAY: Author Esther T. Jones
Today I am featuring Esther T. Jones ( @etjwrites ), author of Tedenbarr of Have Lath and Thorunn.
Esther been creating stories since she was a kid, and really started writing them down when she was about 10. In her teen years she got serious about learning the craft, and hasn't stopped since, going on to publish her debut novel Tedenbarr of Have Lath as well as her newest novel, Thorunn, coming out on 20th. Outside of writing, Esther loves gardening, cosplay, and music (as she is a flutist and pianist).
ABOUT TEDENBARR OF HAVE LATH
Adventure! Treachery! Danger on the High Seas! After months of forced servitude aboard a cargo ship en route from the Kingdom of the West, all Tedenbarr wants is to return to his beloved home. But when a brutal pirate attack leaves Tedenbarr stranded on the far shores of the Eastern Kingdom, Tedenbarr must embark on an arduous and harrowing journey from East to West with only his wit, and will to survive against the many trials that beset him along the way. Faced with danger from land and sea, foreigner and country-kin, Tedenbarr's travels promise to take him through perilous, lonely mountains, across vast, thirsty deserts, and into the very heart of a city poised on the brink of civil war. Only time will tell if Tedenbarr can succeed in his quest to return to Have Lath, and finally reunite with his friends, family and the woman he left behind.
You can read my review of Tedenbarr of Have Lath here.
ABOUT THORUNN
Nine years ago, Skytown soldiers brutally murdered Kenton's family. Now those same men aim to return and destroy Kenton's hard-won, idyllic life amongst the peaceful shifter people of the Hinnom Forest.
Meanwhile, Laine Riven–dragged from Earth to Thorunn against his will–is stuck navigating an unfamiliar school, his jerk of an uncle, and the rising threat posed by the Outpost Terrorist.
When their paths clash amidst tragedy and betrayal, Kenton realises he and his best friend Bo may have rushed headlong into a situation too impossible to fix.
Time is running out as frix season closes in, and their only shot at victory hinges on outrunning the seasoned bounty hunters, savage creatures, and unpredictably violent weather trying to kill them every step of the way.

Pirates, bandits, & a kingdom on the verge of revolt.
That's all that's stopping Tedenbarr from getting home after being shipwrecked.
Should be easy; right?

6 years ago I published my first novel. I was so excited & happy that all my hard work was becoming a reality!
Since then, I've published a 2nd book, various articles & thinkpieces, started an authortube channel where I discuss books & offer writing advice, hosted storytelling events & attended quite a few local book signings.
It's definitely been quite the journey, & I'm looking forward to what the next five years will bring. (Maybe books 3-5??)
#HappyBookBirthday Tedenbarr of Have Lath!! 🥳

Find the Word Tag
I was tagged by @sleepyowlwrites (thanks!!) to find: lose, lesson, light, late. BONUS: lever, likely.
From Stealing Freedom:
Lose
Tiana brushed Anabella's hair away from her clammy forehead and pressed her fingers under her neck. “She's breathing,” she told Damien. She passed out from the shock of the pain, most like.” Tiana had seen a few similar scenes back on Have Lath. Every other harvest season somebody too old, or too fool-hardy, found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time and got caught under a plough or had some terrible other farming accident. The lucky ones only had to lose an arm or two.
Lesson
“You sound like me ma,” he responded, back further away. “What, you steal from her too?” He shook his head and said nothing. “Look, just stop stealing, and you won't be punished, it's as simple as that.” That was a lesson Tiana had learnt long ago, helping Myrc bake bread in the kitchens. She rubbed her wrist unconsciously. A wide woven bracelet covered a scar there.
Light
The walk was pleasant, as the day was warmer than the one previous, and Tiana left her hood down, content to let the light breeze ruffle her short hair. She nodded her head politely at people she recognised, but didn't stop to talk.
Late
“'Tween that, an' tide comin' in, the child is in grave danger.” The ghost stories Lach's friends insisted on telling about poor Æthelbert who drowned sprang to Tiana's mind. “Is it too late?” she asked, trying to push down the spinning, sick feeling that threatened to consume her. “If 'e can swim—” Heady shook her head violently.
Likely
She'd been lucky during her escape. No one but Tedenbarr had seen her leave, and the drug she'd given him had likely muddled his memories.
I tag @leave-her-a-tome , @akindofmagictoo , @zmwrites , & @raiswanson to find: Gain, Disciple, Shadow, Timely, and Golden

What's the inspiration behind my WIP
Currently I have two WIPs I'm actively working on, The first book in the Amiri of Caro series, and the first book in the Tiana of Have Lath series.
Both of them are inspired by my first novel, Tedenbarr of Have Lath (read for free with kindle unlimited), as Amiri is a character in TOHL whose backstory I wanted to dig into a lot more, and Tiana's story is an AU based on the premise of "what if" such and such a character was at this place at that time, how would the story of TOHL be different.
That being said, Tiana's story very much favours the waif/thief adventure trope, and leans heavily on Robin Hood inspirations, but focusing on the lassies, and Amiri's story has a lot of puzzle adventure/tomb raider/Indiana Jones vibes with a fantasy twist in a desert country setting.
Both novels are still in their infancy, but I'm enjoying how it's going so far. 😊

It wasn't really intentional that both my novels follow a blue colour scheme, but I love how they look together.
Should I go for red or purple with my next book? 🤔
