my red dwarf opinion of all time is I full heartedly believe Rimmer could be 200% worse. like yeah he’s a sopping wet loser already but man he could be so so much worse (something something it’s because his drive for power and control isn’t born of any legit malicious intent, but instead an internalized need to be, at minimum, perceived in general and, at maximum, be loved for himself [even if that ‘self’ is a carefully constructed persona and lacks any of his rimmer-ism] something something)

oh yeah anon you're 100% correct! i often dunk on rimmer for being an asshole, and he absolutely IS an asshole, but i don't think he rlly has bad intentions or actively wants to hurt ppl. i agree that his desire for power is more about being loved than anything else. i don't think he'd even know what to do if he WAS put in charge of something important lol. i suspect he would probably just panic a bit once he realised he had to actually advise and care for ppl tbh. i think initially he'd enjoy lording it over ppl but once ppl started criticising him or he had to make important decisions i'd imagine he'd have a breakdown lmao

i mean in siliconia it's revealed that he actively enjoys being a "mindless" servant bc he doesn't have to worry abt disappointing ppl anymore........ i think that any kind of pressure would make him crumble. it's clear that it isn't rlly power that he wants, it's adoration that he wants, just like you said. i mean, lister even calls him out on it in the better than life book lol.

rimmer hasn't received any honest unconditional love from... anyone ever, as far as i can remember (unless you count nirvannah maybe???). his parents seemed to show some kind of affection, or at least favouritism, to his brothers, specifically bc they were mentally and physically talented. i think he took the lesson from this that ppl/his parents would only ever love him if he could be the person his parents had wanted him to be.

the irony of this is that it's the sheer stubbornness he had abt achieving the goals his parents set for him (like attaining officerhood) that make him so unlikeable and insufferable to the ppl around him. he's uptight and hyperfocused on achievement and avoids hobbies, socialising and relaxing bc he doesn't want anything to get in the way of his goals, and that makes him completely unpalatable. any creativity or sentimentality or gentleness he has was either squashed out of him by his parents or suppressed by himself.

he lives inside this construction of what he thinks a man should be like. but it's not him, and everyone else can tell that, even though he can't. it's the lack of sincerity that makes him unlikeable, when it's a habit he took on BECAUSE he wanted to be loved.

i think it's all subconscious, like if you asked him abt this he'd either be confused or vehemently deny it. but i do believe that at the root of his character there's just... a desire to be loved. he does confess to it himself in "thanks for the memory". it's very clear in ace as well, a man who is clearly generating a persona for himself in the hopes that it'll make ppl love him. like most aspects of red dwarf, rimmer is funny on the surface but deeply painfully tragic if you think abt him for too long.

ANYWAYS SORRY this is basically just a more verbose annoying version of what you said lmao. the point is that i completely agree anon. he's so awful but so pitiful and sad it's hard NOT to love him despite the fact that he frustrates me so much sometimes i wanna pull my hair out lol

Obey Me! Characters and.... stims!

You know this emoji from the game?

That’s a happy stim my friends!! Flappy arms of love!! @katattacktime and I both read the emoji as a stim and talked about how it made us feel like the Obey Me characters would be comfortable with us stimming. Then we put our gigantic neurodivergent brains together to come up with stims for them because of course we did!!! It’s our headcanon and we make the rules! tbh we barely had to even converse about it because we were so on the same page.

Let’s check out those stims!!

Lucifer pushes his hair back and runs fingers through his bangs when he's hyperfocused. It keeps his bangs out of the way and the motion helps him think and prioritize. Being so on top of things isn’t easy after all.

Mammon hums when he's doing things that don't require a lot of concentration, like showering, getting dressed, or doing chores - pretty much any time. He hums when he’s on cooking duty. When he thinks hard or is looking for something, he clicks the tip of his tongue against the roof of his mouth (it makes him easy to find when he's snooping for treasure unfortunately). Also he reflexively squawks at crows whenever he sees them. the crows squawk back. They are friends. Do not separate them.

Leviathan has a lot of physical stims, especially when he’s excited or thinking. Leg bounces! So many leg bounces. He’s self conscious about it but since he does online school it doesn’t bother anyone and that helps a lot. Anything that makes him excited (new anime season announcement, winning idol concert tickets, etc) means happy flaps!! Just like the emoji. He becomes that emoji hearts and all. He also has a variety of fidget cubes; he likes the joystick and button gadgets the most.

Satan pulls and twirls that one strand of hair at the front of his head while he's reading or studying, which is pretty much all the time. That's why it sticks out.

Asmo!!! Best quality: his wiggles. He balls his fists and shakes them in front of his chest when he’s excited. He also bounces on the balls of his feet if standing, or sometimes switches his weight between feet rhythmically. Like he’s always got a little bit of a beat!

Beel of course is a chewer. He’ll chew gum, pens, pencils - but he also has chewlery! It’s rubber jewelry meant for chewing - check out this doodle from @otomeman showing just this. (I have one that’s a big lego brick and i love it). He can also twirl things between his fingers. Pens. Coins. It's effortless. Boy is dextrous af. If he’s stressed he repeatedly tenses/relaxes different muscles in a set order. It's repetitive and gets a little endorphins goin’ which is good for relaxing.

Belphie gently pulls at his bangs when he's thinking or trying to stay awake. that’s why they’re long and also so in front of his face. Occasionally he rocks a foot side to side if he has a hard time sleeping, which admittedly is not often.

Diavolo loves texture stims!! He plays with the pin in his tie a lot, but also touches things that feel nice at the palace: velvet curtains, engravings in various wood furnishings, the crown jewels, If it feels good to touch he wants to touch it. Barbatos has to keep him from shoving his hand in the kitchen’s stockpile of rice. He has only failed once.

Speaking of Barbatos, he quietly clicks his teeth in rhythmic patterns. It’s quiet and can be done hands free so it doesn't detract from his work.

Solomon taps his writing implements. It’s pretty quiet when he’s using a quill (which he does sometimes because old wizard aesthetic) but can be louder. Sometimes he forgets that he does it and chooses a fountain pen and uh. Let’s just say all his clothes are mostly black for a reason. You can’t see black ink stains on a black shirt.

Simeon is prone to daydreaming! The whole TSL series probably started as a daydream. He also repeats the same words or phrases over and over in his head. It feels good to him to think like that. It also means he’s more likely to remember poetic lines when he comes up with them while not able to write them down.

Luke is a doodler! All his class notes have shapes and drawings in the margins. He’s more fond of soft and round shapes like bubble clusters, waves, clouds, and spirals. Sometimes he will do little doodles of his classmates! But never those icky demons okay maybe sometimes.
