Okay so I just hit 30 tags talking about my DA mages. It might be that I need to talk about them again. (HyperFocus Engage!)

Note: I have a headcannon that all mages have an element they're drawn to but circumstances can influence it as much as personality etc.

Origins

Domynic is naturally fire and seizes being a blood mage as soon as possible. He wants to be powerful and in charge (so no one can hurt him again). He is all about that DPS life.

Domynic Amell and Irys Amell (Twins!)

Irys is water/ice naturally and pushes herself to be a healer. She wants to be a calmer soothing presence like Wynne but gets so angry...! She's more support/DPS.

They both have a natural tendency towards damage and anger, but Irys refutes it and Dom embraces it. They are my "actually opposites" twins.

Zerdali and Jezper Surana (Twins!)

Jezper is Earth naturally and very defence focused, becoming an arcane warrior to protect his friends. Think tank over support.

Zerdali is a natural spirit healer and lightning mage (she's supposed to be super powerful to Jez's average power). She went to the tower long before her brother and goes very strict arcane and creation, but becomes a shape shifter when she's given the freedom to choose and she can do real damage(!). She's more of a "dark" healer?

DA2

Abigael Hawke is my baby. She is my most OC ever. She is a Primal Mage by birth (lightning and earth combined) and very very powerful. (I like powerful electric mages, leave me alone).

She has no real healing talent but essentially forces the fade to let her be a spirit healer in a life or death situation. She heals with a spirit of Duty, not Compassion or Love or anything.

Aislynn Hawke is a spirit healer naturally but her weakness and connection to Creation and spirit school makes her feel so weak. She becomes a blood mage for the power. (I was playing an ill conceived hard run...)

Evelyn Hawke is a "people person" aka a manipulator. She is also a healer because people like that, but she's entropy and ice to the core. You ain't touching her.

(2's way of leveling means I had to choose something and healer is better than blood mage so ta-dah loads of healers...)

Inquisition

Jenavieve Trevelyan is a messed up lady with a lot of baggage. She is another natural healer but because Inquisition threw away spirit healer, she is spirit and ice. She doesn't do damage for a long time as she levels, just mind blast and generic attack.

When choosing her specialism she tries necromancer but (I don't like playing that school and Dorian is usually in my party taking care of that)... But! Her spirit healer spirit is upset so she stops. She embraces being part of the action so she can heal more effectively and becomes a Knight Enchanter.

Hissera Adaar

Hiss was born under the Qun and trained there for the start of her magic, which meant damage, damage, damage and forced her into fire primarily.

She was always a blunt weapon so when given the chance she goes down the subtleties of Rift Mage and study.

Elenansal Lavellan

The narrative foil of Hissera, Elenansal was coddled and raised to be a fine instrument of magic as the only other mage in the clan other than the keeper. She is precise and elegant and tends towards controlled lightning and ice.

When given a chance, she went full damage and sized on taking Arcane Warrior (Knight Enchanter) because that's Elven gosh darn it and she is a keeper by right! Also means she gets to release a lot of rage and frustrations out with a big sword.

So uh yeah

I have lots of thoughts about my mages (and my rogues and my warriors), too many for tumblr tags. And yes I know they're all OP and a bit Mary Sue but Cringe is Dead and they are the main damn characters in a game, they're allowed to be OP, so shush.

I'm super fucking torn about whether I should post all the Dragon Age/ Herald Dream Au Notes to tumblr as I work instead of just yelling in Vaults DMs because one one hand, I know there's like Two Other People who know what the hell I'm talking about. On the other hand, If I just posts in Vaults DMs I'm far more likely to get a response and possibly additional thoughts. I am struggling. Every Day I Wake Up.

Anyway, have some stuff for the AU, for the people who DO know what I'm on about, at least a little:

- The War Table consists of Punz as the Spymaster, Techno as the Commander, and Bad as the Ambassador.

- Sapnap and Dream were childhood best friends, but when Fereldan was struck with the blight they were separated. Sapnap ended up in Kirkwall, where he met George, and they were companions of the Champion of Kirkwall. Sapnap dragged George to Haven after he heard Dream was found as the only survivor of the Conclave. They missed each other so much.

- Solas and Cole still exist in this AU! Dream adores Solas and trusts him completely, and while Cole's insights make Dream uncomfortable, he also regards Cole as one of his people, and won't tolerate people attempting to hurt him.

- George loathes Solas with every fiber of his being, and most of their banter is extremely snarky. Throughout their time together George has made multiple attempts to convince Dream that they don't need him, but Solas is using his spies and a lot of really well timed incidents to make George look like he's just being silly and jealous. George isn't aware of who Solas really is (he doesn't care enough to go looking) he just doesn't like how much of a self important asshole he is, or how much he takes advantage of Dream's favor.

- Karl is this world's Dorian, and he's enjoying it very much. Karl going "Don't worry; I'm here, I'll protect you" to Dream lives in my mind rent free.

- More of Dream's party members include: Philza, who is a Knight Enchanter, HBomb, who is a Champion Warden, Tommy, who is an artificer Red Jenny. I have some vague outlines for stuff I want to do with them, and like three paragraphs of writing for Tommy and Dream.

- When Tommy suggests Jar of Bees, Punz is disturbingly enthusiastic about the idea. Techno is forced to take the soldiers out to go find the beekeeper, and he spends the entire time grumbling.

- Punz and Dream have a very important friendship in this AU. As some of the best lone mercenaries in their field, they ran in the same circles and took related jobs often, and grew to rely on each other. Punz worked hard to gain Dream's trust, and Dream has put in effort to make sure Punz always had food on the table, even if it risked not having any for himself. Despite this, Dream holds Punz at arms length (not willing to get so close to anyone after both the Blight and all the times he's been betrayed as a merc) and by the time Inquisition starts, Punz's position as Spymaster and Dream as the Herald has left their relationship strained.

- Dream and Techno playing chess also lives in my mind rent free.

- Foolish is responsible for all of Skyhold's repairs, and he's also in charge of making sure XD doesn't commit Criminal Activity. Most of this criminal activity is bothering Cole, who does not like him, but asking Dream questions and pissing off Solas are also his preferred pasttimes. XD can be found on the Courtyard roof holding a chicken in his lap.

- Sometimes Cole will just appear, put a cat in Dream's lap, and vanish. Catnip will mysteriously appear in Dream's pockets,

- Dreams mount of choice is the Dracolisk. His name is Arlo. (Spirit died before the conclave, taking an arrow meant for Dream)

- SNF used to do a lot of cuddling during DA2. DA:I they still can be found lounging together, this time attempting to coax Dream into a big sleep pile. Truly DTeam wins this.

- Yes Dream loses his arm in Trespasser. Sapnap, George, and Punz have collectively decided to murder Solas for it. After forcing Dream to rest.

- Dream takes Solas' betrayal really well! (no he does not)

- I have like five fanfics right now two thirds of the way done for this series, but every time I sit down to finish one I go "y'know this could be a bit longer" and then I get distracted.

im going to drink and play da2 and cry and wallow in the fact that im a terrible human being and certainly earning my damnation with my awful disgusting behaviour and my spiritual apathy that im apparently incapable of fixing but apathy is all i can manage in the face of overwhelming fear and betrayal and hurt and anger and bitterness

NAME : tas NICKNAME : tas IS a nickname FACECLAIM : i’ve used amaterasu for a while (my nickname in rp used to be ammy) but now i’m using my pikachu from pokemon let’s go. her name is slash, which is a legacy name i’ve used for my pikachu since i first played pokemon yellow, and THAT pikachu was named after a kid in this n64 game called snowboard kids or something like that PRONOUNS : she/her HEIGHT : 5′6 BIRTHDAY : september 24 AESTHETIC : cats doing anything. grey coastlines. mountains. i’m also a big fan of the casual flapper look, though not as big a fan (for myself) of the fancy sequined 1920 look. LAST SONG YOU LISTENED TO : while i was doing job apps yesterday i jammed to the complete harvest moon: a wonderful life soundtrack FAVORITE MUSE (S) YOU’VE WRITTEN : solas probably? like through this account i not only met a lot of cool and wonderful ppl who have bettered my life, but i’ve better understood myself and my own morals. also i just have a lot of love for solas as a character despite his flaws. you have to have a lot of passion for the character to be around for as long as i have, especially with the solas fandom/hatedom being as tiring as it is.

* GETTING TO KNOW THE ACCOUNT :

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO TAKE ON THIS MUSE : i made this account like right after i beat temple of mythal on my first run through of da:i back in 2014. by that point it was pretty obvious solas was more than he seemed and i figured whatever it was that i wanted to write it. i had finished masked empire literally a week or so before da:i came out so felassan and the agent of fen’harel thing was fresh on my mind, so i thought he likely was a) ancient and b) potentially another agent. ironically the latter is the conclusion the viddasala comes to in trespasser. anyway his banter in mythal and around the game rly sold me on him, and as a character he really drove home stuff that da2 had set up with merrill (namely the nature of spirits), along with cole (i had not read asunder btw). and as i got to know him more i just rly appreciated the critical nature of his character. there’s this one faulkner quote i learned from GRRM/the asoiaf fandom: “The only thing worth writing about is the human heart in conflict with itself” and i think that describes a lot of what i find interesting in solas. he’s very much in conflict with himself throughout most of his journey, well before da:i and even the creation of the veil.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ASPECTS OF YOUR CURRENT MUSE :

his thoughtfulness. like, we all know solas is capable of being an ass and often falls short of true understanding, but when he does nail stuff he rly nails it. i think this is best exemplified in his banter with a tal-vashoth bull where he figures out a distraction that also reaffirms bull’s trust in his own sanity. overall he has a pretty strong understanding of trauma, talking cole down from a panic attack, etc

also i unironically love the hobo apostate fashion. genuinely. it’s also the most comfortable cosplay i’ve ever worn, bald cap aside.

WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING : my rp partners. there’s a reason i rp rather than write fic skdjf.

FAVORITE TYPES OF THREADS : i love all sorts of threads. i like plotted and long-form so long as ppl are prepared to wait i’m SO SORRY ksdjf and i also like banter. it’s easier to write especially when i’m going through a period where writing anything i like is difficult, and keeps me writing.

BIGGEST STRUGGLE IN REGARDS TO YOUR CURRENT MUSE : sometimes the perception of him in fandom bothers me when i feel like it’s being applied to my solas. it’s why i’ve grown a little wary of hostile threads, oftentimes it feels like sb isn’t talking to/about my solas but their idea of solas, which would be fine if it didn’t feel like i was mostly being reduced to some kind of verbal punching back. also as i noted i’ve had better luck writing shorter things lately, and writing drabbles has been a struggle when i have so much old stuff waiting that it feels selfish to write for myself. also when a lot of stuff gets dropped at once (generally b/c there’s a wave of accounts that quickly vanish) it’s pretty disheartening, esp if it was stuff i was excited about. so like, most of my struggles are self-motivation issues, besides the aforementioned times where i feel like ooc perceptions get imposed onto me when i write canons.

DA2 companions choose a major

Merrill: Declares a classics major on the first day of college. Manages to write a stunningly good thesis on ancient elven culture and lore while also frequently getting lost on the way to and from the library.

Anders: Takes a philosophy course to fulfill a humanities requirement and, to his surprise, finds debates about ethics and justice* completely absorbing. Further study transforms him from an easygoing freshman into an intense, argumentative senior. He immediately applies to grad school and becomes an incredibly divisive TA.

Varric: Creative writing. He also completes an economics minor, but tells none of his friends about it.

Isabela: She majors in English and finds ways to analyze scandalous or smutty novels for all of her final papers. Any semester in which she doesn’t make an English professor gasp in shock is a failure in her eyes.

Fenris: Double majors in history and political science. Known for pointed, passionate arguments with professors who aren’t up on the finer details of Tevinter history and politics.

Aveline: She’s there on athletic scholarship and kicks butt as the captain of every sport she plays. In her spare time she also majors in history. She, Donnic, and Fenris are frequent study buddies.

Carver: Changes majors six times trying to find a department where no one knows his older sibling. Spends some time as a classics major to be close to Merrill before ending up in psychology. He writes a thesis on sibling rivalries and gets very cranky when anyone points out the obvious.

Bethany: Falls in love with art history. After a year abroad in Orlais she comes home with a handsome Orlesian boyfriend and a shocking number of scarves. * pun 100% intended.
