First Mention: Into the Wild (chapter 12; page 140)
“Tallstar? I’ve never seen him, but I know he’s black and white with a very long tail,” answered Graypaw.

Warrior cats has its writting faults, but it did give us a bunch of young individuals who made an earnest mistake, thinking they were doing what was best or just being too shy to speak/expecting bad consequences/thinking it was not worth speaking up and then being the indirect cause of something awful and being seen as responsible for this.
I’m not talking about, say, Dove “I’m going to go to Wind camp in the middle of the night to talk to sedgewhisker” paw, or Fire “I’m going to hunt for riverclan because they’re flooded” heart. They knew what they were doing would lend thme in trouble and chose to do it.
I’m talking about Tall “well if nobody else makes any remark on the shadowclan smell then it’s probably because it’s normal/a border patrol whose scent was brought by the wind” paw, who thinks (and is not the only one) he caused Brackenwing’s death by not speaking up.
I’m talking about Crooked “my mother can look after herself the priority is chasing the dog out” jaw, who thinks (and is not the only one) he caused Rainflower’s death by leaving instead of staying.
I’m talking about Blue “you need to stretch your legs Snowfur” fur, who thinks and is accused by others (Thistleclaw) of having killed her sister by forcing her to go for a stroll and not stopping her fast enough near the thunderpath.
I’m talking about Fire “I need to get those herbs to Yellowfang first but then I’m going to tell the message” heart, who blames himself for Cinderpaw disobeying him and falling into Tigerclaw’s trap.
I’m talking about Bracken “if I had jumped higher I could have saved him” fur who blames himself (but is not blamed by others) for Snowkit’s death.

below is a little practice excerpt for my own personal fanclans, featuring one of the outsider groups, the Kin of Felan! They live and honor wolves. The protagonist for the excerpt is Mossshawl, a tortoiseshell using it/its! Mossshawl explores the Shadowcast and beyond and delivers information back to it's colony.
my fanclan story is meant to be about how after a earthquake two clans, crowberryclan and blusterclan, move to new territories. they encounter two groups that will live beside them, Kin of Felan and Kin of Fyxen, and get roped into the supernatural! i hope you like it :)
the cats pour into the forest, black and grey and brown and ginger. they all seem tired, skinny, ribshowing flanks heaving as they talk in hushed voices that don't reach it's ears. It's sees two cats, yes, they must be their Doyens- one, a brown cat with blotches thickly splattered over their body, and the other, a pale cream with cinnamon extremities. They speak together, loudly, yet it cannot hear what they are saying. It catches a few words: Shadowcast, Clan, Rogues, Stars.
Mossshawl puffs as a ruffled owl chick would, overgrown claws digging into the branch of the pine tree it stood on. This was what the She-Wolf told, Mossshawl had seen three turns of the round moon prior. That large colonies, far bigger then their simple Kins of Fyxen and Felan, would come to the territories and move beside them. Whether they wanted it or not.
Mossshawl leaps from it's branch, mottled, brown-black-and-ginger fur fraying out, and it takes off into the forest. As the trees whip by, the air grows colder and flatter, and eventually the pines start to become more dour and less inviting, but no less than home to Kin of Felan.
The tortoiseshell makes it's way to the side of a dried creek shaded by redcedar, looking down into where it's den was. Grey and brown pelts below, Mossshawl jumps and falls a great flight, landing on the wet, cold earth.
"I... I must see Slatebound." Mossshawl retches, eyes obscured by the mats of dark fur over it's eyes. "it is urgent. For the sake of Felan and his She-Wolf, I must see Slatebound!" Mossshawl roars to a light brown queen, .. Apricotleaveslittle. Her eyes, crimson and fiery, flit over to a blue sitting on the side of the creek. That was Slatebound, who walks over on brisk paws to the matted tortoiseshell Mossshawl.
"Be kinder to your Kinmates, you beast of a Felan. What, what is so important, that you risk breaking your legs to jump into the middle of the den?" Slatebound holds no bedside manner, and no polite tone in his gruff voice. Mossshawl's hackles bristle, but it does not snarl or snap at the Apothecary. It knows better.
"I.. do not believe it is wise to share with all of our Kin, Slatebound." Mossshawl mewls, head twisting to stare at it's colonymates. Apricotleaveslittle was muttering something into Silvertongue-in-Heart's ear, that gossip...
"Anything that was worth your being here is worth being heard by all of Kin of Felan." Slatebound returns, teeth grated. "Speak, Mossshawl, or return to your wander."
"I saw a vision, a omen, from the She-Wolf. Felan... did not speak to me. I kept it a secret, i was many, many elk-chases away from the den. I assumed it was a dream, ramblings of thoughts, you know." The tortoiseshell's claws rind up the dirt. Slatebound stiffens. All cats of Fyxen and Felan knew of Mossshawl's visions, for it spoke with the wolves just as Sundown, Fyxen-kin's Soothsayer did.
"But it is true. Slatebound, cats are here. Not wanderers, wayfarers, as i am, but great, big colonies. Larger then Kins Combined. They were of my vision, Slatebound! The Clans Have Come."
The Clans Have Come. Felan's Kin whisper to each other, eyes wide as they take in the new information. Clan was not a word of the Kins, but they lnew it meant great legion and great army. It also meant great danger.
Finally, the Doyens rear their heads, stepping forward from the throng of cats that have gathered around Mossshawl and the apothecary. Felan-Doyen Hackleraise and their mate, Doyen Fur-Like-Allium. The cats surrounding them make drumming sounds with the beating of their paws, meows like almost a wolf's yip as the two Doyens come to the center.
Felan-Doyen Hackleraise raises their tail and there is silence. Hackleraise meets Mossshawl's hooded eyes, and with a paw, raises the wayfarer's chin, amber gaze fierce and violent. Mossshawl does not break the stare, for it knows what it says is true. Hackleraise drops Mossshawl, and turns to their Kin.
"Kin of Felan, Mossshawl is no liar. Although we see it hardly, i know it is a trusted Kinmate. And for that, i worry." Hackleraise's tufted ears are flitting about. "Colonies, you said, Mossshawl. Greater then ours! Greater then Kins Combined? If that is true, and it is... what will become of us, Mossshawl? Are these cats.. are they hostile?"
Mossshawl does not react, just mewing, "I do not know, Doyen. I know they have come, and that is all the She-Wolf wished to share."
"we must be in danger!" hisses Silvertongue-in-Heart.
"We'll have to flee! We can't let them kill us, Kin of Felan!" screeches Tallpaw.
"Just let the Wolves eat them!" snarls Apricotleaveslittle.
Doyen Fur-Like-Allium's tail raises, blue eyes narrowed at the writhing crowd. White paws raised, the Doyen signs while speaking. "We do not know for sure. These cats.. could be friendly. Give them a chance, Kkfela." Kin of Felan is quiet and respectful while they listen to the Doyen, for Fur-Like-Allium was a voice of reason always.
Fur-Like-Allium turns to the fellow Doyen, and [Fur-Like-Allium's] mate for quite some time. "I trust your choice, Felan-Doyen, love [of] mine. But listen to me."
Felan-Doyen Hackleraise nods thoughtfully, amber eyes half-lidded while they turn over a idea in their mind. They suddenly snap their head up, turned to Mossshawl. "Where will the Clans settle, Mossshawl, Prophecy-Speaker?"
"closer to the mountainside, Felan-Doyen."
"Then we have time. the fox-kin will meet them first, chances are they will border territories. Mossshawl..." Hackleraise glances over to their oldest son, Heir to Doyenship, Felan Fir. "you and my kit will watch them and return every quarter moon-turn."
"Yes, Felan-Doyen." the two say. Felan Fir dips her head respectfully.
"And to you, Kin of Felan, don't worry. We might be smaller, but we are just as strong, just as wise as these strangers. And the wolves will be with us all the way."
