An image has come to my mind, that being Twinkle Star becomes a guest lecturer at a University Grade class on Astrophysics, with the whole class gaping as this tiny girl walks into the classroom, steps up a step stool to stand before the podium and starts her lecture.
And as this tiny child is providing her lecture, everyone has to fight the urge to coo at her, especially given the hulking form of Tannhauser and the smaller but more armored form of Walkure that have accompanied her as her bodyguards.
Once all is said and done, Twinkle Star steps off of the podium, takes a bow or curtsy, and then is lifted up and placed on Tannhauser's shoulders and given a ride off of the campus.
I also like to picture each of the Musicarts trying to teach each other their own national languages...with varying degrees of success, some, such as Canon and Winter, take to them like a fish to water, while others like Jupiter and Tannhauser have...some difficulties with them lol.
Somehow, Twinkle star and Nutcracker wind up absorbing the most languages, becoming fully fledged polyglots with relative ease, though this also has the side effect of them occasionally switching languages while writing or speaking, causing a few issues lol.
As a final image before I go to sleep, Tannhauser and Jupiter's meeting at the Berlin Symphonica went something like Meliodas and Bans meeting after being apart for so long from Seven Deadly Sins, that is they started throwing down while smiling and laughing, totaling a rather sizable portion of the building as they fought, all while laughing and cheering.
The conductors nearly had a shared heart attack when the pair broke through the wall and into the cafeteria while they were sparring, and a poor Mutar was even crushed by some of the debris...how unfortunate lol.
All of that said, stay safe and take care.
RAHHH OMG YOU'VE SEEN MY POST ABOUT MUSIE RIGHT?? THE INTER-MUSICART DIALECT THAT DEVELOPED IN BERLIN SYMPHONICA AS A RESULT OF MUSICARTS SHARING INNATE KNOWLEDGE OF THE "HOME LANGUAGE" OF THEIR SCORE?!! (edit; you have lol i forgor 💀) twinkle star would probably speak that 90% of the time, since she's one of the oldest musicarts by time served (iirc she's technically like. 42. which is so funny to me). So I bet Twinkle Star is the bet at Musie naturally, even if she's not good at teaching it. Many other musicarts likely speak and converse in non-Musie, though, since the existence of a half-French half-German creole with no written records and that nobody but Musicarts can understand might make the higher-ups a little worried... god forbid their war machine tries to secretly communicate with each other to.. *shudder* unionize...
Tann and Jupie are 100% the type to break shit without even thinking, so their 'greeting throwdown' makes total sense. They're probably also the only ones who can arm wrestle each other without sending the other flying (Walkure refuses to participate, and as such does not count).

^ explanation on my thought process for "deha": In Musie, French "J"s are pronounced like German "J"s, which, in the middle of words, softened over time to voiced "H"s. I could see it being used further with "kenn" (short for kennen) to make "Dekkenn" (pronounced Day-ken), which would be used as something similar to "OK" or "You got it." (if anybody here is a linguist pls tell me if that's an unreasonable shift lol)

Autumn 2021 Anime Season
What! A new season already! (I barely watch anime any more hahahahaha /sweatdrop)
Probably gonna a full summer season recap cos a good chunk of the shows I’m watching are still ongoing…thanks web streams & ONAs for the seasonal confusion!

Well, I watched more than my target of 12 per season but at least a few of them were shorts!

Shadowverse Flame: la serie animata andrà in onda dal 2 aprile
L’anime ispirato al gioco di carte collezionabili di Cygames tornerà in tv con le vicende di tre nuovi protagonisti.

Il canale ufficiale dell’anime di “Shadowverse”, ha diffuso un primo video promozionale per “Shadowverse Flame”, la prossima serie animata del franchise, ispirata al popolare gioco di carte collezionabili targato Cygames, che verrà trasmessa in Giappone a partire dal 2 aprile.

La storia seguirà dei protagonisti diversi da quelli della precedente serie di 48 episodi (più uno speciale), andata in onda fra aprile 2020 e marzo 2021, che potete trovare in streaming su Crunchyroll, sottotitolata in italiano.

Lo staff al lavoro presso lo studio ZEXCS (Asagao to Kase-san, Backflip!!) è in gran parte lo stesso della prima serie, con sostituzioni che riguardano più che mai le sezioni dedicate ai fondali e alla computer grafica.
La regia è dunque nuovamente affidata a Keiichiro Kawaguchi (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou, Dropout Idol Fruit Tart), che stavolta avrà come assistente Naotaka Hayashi. 
Della sceneggiatura si occupano Rintaro Isaki e Deko Akao (Komi Can't Communicate, The Case Study of Vanitas), mentre il character design è curato da Hiroki Harada (Sasami-san@Ganbaranai, Romeo x Juliet) e Yasunari Nitta. Le musiche, invece, sono ad opera di Yoshihiro Ike (Takt Op. Destiny, Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul).

Il videogioco è stato lanciato dapprima su iOS e Android nel giugno 2016, per poi arrivare nell’ottobre dello stesso anno anche su PC tramite la piattaforma di digital delivery Steam. Il titolo è free-to-play e comprende sia una campagna single player che una modalità multiplayer.
A differenza dell’anime, che ruota attorno a dei giocatori ed è chiaramente mirato ad un pubblico giovane, il mondo di gioco originale ha dei toni marcatamente dark fantasy e segue le vicende di altri personaggi.

October/Fall 2021 Anime First Impressions
Not in the best head space but I'll keep that to a separate post.Want to at least put out what seasonal Fall Anime I'm following, better or worse, before October ends:

Takt Op: Symphogear but by Classical music geeks who are melodramizing too hard.
Oh man, when I see a show described as "a world which has banned music because it's the only weapon to fight alien monsters, and it's musical power transforms girls into fighting machines" I wanted to fall in love all over again...because that literally describes Symphogear.
...And yet, just like going to an orchestral concert, yes there is major pedigree on display, with both Madhouse AND Mappa; yes, there is actual emotional drama with how the male MC, Takt, needs to get along with Destiny who possesses his childhood love interest; and yes, it'll have lots of classical music trivia for real historical nerds to say "hey I know Beethoven".
...and yet to further the orchestra concert analogy, they won't ever take audience requests, and parrallel wise, Symphogear does perhaps the one thing that Takt Op despite all its glamour DOESN'T have the battle action actually play the relevant music DURING THE FIGHT. It feels like such an integral part that Symphogear just knew what it was because just that single line is the ENTIRE PREMISE and yet like seeing a straight A student vs an actual inventive one do an assignment, Takt Op has all the production, but Symphogear had the heart.
It's not just "I liked the premise better when x did it" but like Symphogear just gives me a distilled shot, possibly trashy, of what I want: Magical Girls sing to power up their super weapons, and yet Takt Op. has adds in a whole bunch of what you could definitely call "higher class" of real character dramas, fully thoughtout world building (as opposed to the Season by season building of Symphogear), needing all the girls to be accompanied by (so far) male mouth pieces for exposition, and just having the most energetic and genki personality be retroactively removed so now you have another Rei x Shinji archetype duo but now the Asuka type is playing babysitter.
And...while I wouldn't say it's selling out, it's really is like hearing a much too polished cover of your favorite rock album: All the money is spent where it should be...but also they'll never have a wicked 40 second long drum break solo nor a dub step sampled transformation mid-season. Sometimes, more money isn't always "better" I guess.
But also speaking of shows that remind me of other shows in a bad way...

Sakugan: Gurren Lagann with Made in Abyss spelunking adventure, featuring sad dad and smart daughter. Sakugan is the most not-Trigger, Trigger anime, even more than something bombastic like Flip Flappers or so, from out the gate of the big thicc red font to the brunt and in your face exposition, it has a very seat-of-pants drive that if you liked Trigger stuff, you'd be forgiven for saying it looks like Gurren Lagann...because "most" Trigger stuff is just Gurren Lagann derived.
But also because of the difference in studio, from coincidentally Symphogear + Macross studio Satelite, it sadly also shows how not being made by Trigger a premise can show all it's differences and faults, mostly in that as over-the-top the premise of wacky mecha excavation family team is, it doesn't quite juggle it's character melodrama nor exposition cleanly. In fact, I'd describe the writing as being too much "saturday morning children moral stories" writing.With how a lot of Dad (Gagumber) over protects daughter (Memenpu) built into it's premise of growing up and letting go, it...kinda both says way too much but doesn't have the confidence to just scream it's message. It's a poor middle ground since it doesn't ride high enough to break your suspenders of disbelief, but it also ain't subtle nor nuanced enough to make it's Dad-Daughter relationship seem organic.
Ironically Gurrenn Lagann original juggled both it's insanity but also it's character drama way better and while Trigger has been trying too hard in chasing it with emphasis on the former, Sakugan feels like it wants to take a whole GL piece of both but just can't seem to move past the one foot it has on the ground.

YuYuYu S3: ok so the ACTUAL show I like to watch this season, is the series I marathoned a while back, think Madoka but the evil is EVANGELION GEOMETRIC DEFENSE. But also, the girls get PTSD (except it rolls it back against some of the better themes).
S2 is still the peak of it, but S3 is taking a weird stance because if S2 is the prequel > finale, then S3 is trying to wrap up a ton of spin-off material, first with KuMeYu of SPESS MARINES then it seems to be NoWaYu of THE ORIGIN OF EVIL AND SUFFERING. I read the latter as a manga but I'd say the adaption of KuMeYu's story feels off because it's only 3 episodes speed running and so rushes to lead into something when as a spin-off it should've been it's own thing.
Probably should've just gone back to read it all but yeah while I'm enjoying KAGAWA LIFE a second run, if you aren't keen on a ton of CGI girls playing shoutout against space freaks, it seems like it'll run too fast so who knows what it plans for it's finale.

Mushoku tensei: Oof, I really don't wanna look at this one, this is the grandpappy of isekai but in my words it's the "original sin" of the genre. If you've heard the whole shtick of "NEET loser dies in truck accident and gets reborn as a super competent hero in an rpg-fantasy world" well, 90% of that premise is Mushoku (the latter part I blame on SAO, for another day). The two initial mentions from S1 are A) the main character Rudeus still gets his abilities cleanly so it already reeked of "bs Over power Self-Insert" from the start and  It's super fucking horny. Like I don't think any female character has a relationship that DOESN'T have a sleezy second-tone to relate to other characters, but especially with Rude boy.
And for 8 episodes, yeah it was pretty awful, it felt sleezy in the most contrite ways, it slapped Rude boy's wrist too easily for both the above but also in still him moving forward. And still a harem builds around this kid so all the flashbacks of "back in my past life I was a loser" it is super blunted by just...none of it feeling legitimized in the power leveling.
And then ep 9 happens and I really can't stress how much just having that happen is noteworthy, because for all before was a really eye-rolling time of "wow, Rude boy looked at his rich cousin's butt but it's ok cuz he salvaged his own fucked up kidnapping operation and now she's the T1 love interest for now". And then a big diaspora event happens and it's like a whole different show.
A) Breaking Rude boy from the initial cast does make it seem like we're out of prologue and trying to reconnect
B) It introduces probably the biggest show changing character: Ruijerd. A Male Party Member. Which
C) Re-establishes an better arc of chivalry, morality, selflessness and maturity which y'know, wasn't happening when the MC was just chasing skirts.
D) Also they re-re-introduce pre-isekai Neet soul but add in a "god" character and now you can see where at least 4 or 5 different shows pick and choose which aspects they actually liked from the show cuz I'd say post ep9 with Ruijerd (and Eris whose still a guilty pick character) actually has something more to it than being self-fellating trash.
It's such a dramatic shift that I'm sure has even further implications both when and where it was written: amateur web novels suddenly became Isekai hotspots to a full publication/anime pipeline because of it. But also it such a change that it also makes me just reflect on a weird framework of uh...
"Masculine Maturity and rites of passage" where off-handedly someone once described it as intially a boy filled with lust must learn hard ship and grow to be self-less and caring for a future generation. That is quite a stretch and I don't even know if that's actually any valid a storyline or just as problematic as the whole "Hero's Journey" World Myth but just that idea as badly presented.
The whole "boys are boys until they need to grow into men" with as many poor implications as it is still does make me wonder if that's actually the real core of isekais and hell you can see it kinda in the best of the stuff with the whole Raphtalia bit in Shield Hero but more poignantly the whole "self-love and willingness to accept other's kindness" part of Re:Zero.
So uh yeah, I guess the demographic of men to self-insert is still technically true. But beyond just the shallow sleeze and trash of lust and over powered shit...there might actually be something to the whole Masculinity begs for emotional reciprocation that adds to the package as well.

"Merry Christmas" is a word that's reserved for those who love and are loved. Words that presuppose a deep gentlemanly manner, exchanged in a warm home, with forgiving family and friends. So it surely doesn't suit me.
The winter sky over Berlin is low and heavy. Today it was particularly humid and looked as if it might start to rain at any moment.
The desolate city of Berlin.
Standing on the above ground like this, you realise how helpless humanity has been in the fight against the D2s. There are no shops that are open for business, and the stalls are at best covered with rags. Overturned cars blocked the roads and burnt-out strollers lay in the yards of collapsed houses. In the old Berlin, the Christmas market would have been very busy by now.
We are told that the streets were overflowing with people, and that here and there they could be seen biting into the succulent brusques and emptying beer mugs as if in competition. But now there's just an uncomfortable breeze blowing through, clinging to the skin.
I thus regularly go out to the above ground to witness the devastation. To remember the sadness of peace being imposed and the suffering of the people. And to turn that indignation into strength. In such situations, being alone is preferable. Strength brings solitude. True strength can only be found at the top of a sheer cliff, and there you have to reach it on your own.
Of course, organised strength is necessary. The opponents also attack in packs. You should plan your strategy, hone your coordination and intercept them with maximum efficiency. To cultivate your combat skills, you may even seek training partners, such as Jupiter, for example. But in the end, it is the strength of the individual that counts. To avoid losing in such situations, I alone, will sharpen my mind and body.
Close your eyes and listen to the sound of the wind— no sign of the enemy. The D2's movement around Berlin has subsided in recent days. But we cannot afford to be lax. A quarter of a century has long passed since the discovery of the Black Night Siderites, which is said to be the source of the D2 outbreak.
Since then, humanity has been forced to fight a war of retreat. Major cities all over the world have been destroyed and people have been scattered in search of a place to live.
"If only I had more power......"
As I mutter to myself and clenches my fists. I am the Musicart of the "Ride of the Valkyries". The Musicarts are the only way to fight against the D2s. If only I had such power, I would never have seen the city in such a miserable state. I would not have made people suffer. I find it ironic, really, that I bear the name Walküre.
Valkyrie is a demigoddess depicted in Norse mythology, meaning "one who chooses the dead on the battlefield". In other words, she selects the "living" and the "dead" on the battlefield. Is it the "goddess of victory" or the "reaper"? Depending on who you ask, it could have looked either way. I, too, thought the same. If I had the power, I would be a "goddess of victory" who could change the course of the war. But if I am powerless, I am the "reaper", an abomination to the people. Then, I, who am powerless now, would be an abomination to the people.....
"Stronger— I have to be strong—"
I stepped on the gravel road and walked slowly, aimlessly. It has been nearly 30 years since the rise of the Conductors that increases the fighting power of the Musicarts. Yet I still don't know how to build a relationship with a Conductor, and I have lost some battles because I couldn't work well with the Conductor. There are also Conductors who, annoyingly, just quickly fled on their own. What comes to mind are the Musicarts who disappeared before my eyes.
Why.
Why can't I protect people on my own? A Musicart, a "war maiden", what do they meant. For what I chose my life as a Musicart.
And then— I heard people's voices on the wind. As I walked further, I saw people who were still going about their business in this devastated city of Berlin.
"Hey, isn't there any wood left?"
"We'll give you ours if you like!"
"I'm off to the market for a bit."
"Oh, can I go with you? I wanted some ornaments for the tree."
"Say, what do you want to eat on Christmas?"
"I'm fine with anything! As long as it's something mama made!"
There was a smell of cooking from somewhere. It must be stewed potatoes and cabbages. One broken eave was decorated with a crude woven yew wreath. A reminder that people are strong. The old bustle is gone, but the people's small celebrations of the year's events have not ceased.
The task assigned to the Musicarts is to protect the Symphonica, but I cannot ignore those on outside of the Symphonica. Whether they thank me or not, it doesn't matter. I gently place a yew branch that has fallen at my feet on my chest and start walking through the city again. Then, people call out to me as they pass by.
"Hey there, valkyrie. Merry Christmas."
"Miss, they say it's going to start pouring in the evening! Take this umbrella with you!"
"Ah, that branch. It matches! Me too, look, a yew branch—!"
I could see my face, which had been tense and stiff, soften. The taut threads of my heart were unravelling.
I consider solitude to be a necessary condition for strength. But it is never a sufficient condition. Because there are so many strong people who are not alone.
I will defend even if I am the last one standing. Even if there are no Conductors, as long as there are people there to protect. I am the last bastion of humanity. I am the "goddess of victory" who leads people to peace.
I returned them an unfamiliar greeting.
"Merry Christmas. May you be blessed tomorrow."

Episode 4 of Takt Op. Destiny gives us a glimpse of how messed up the world has become after the D2s attacked. It gave me the impression the Symphonica hasn’t managed to keep things under control.
Takt and Destiny are training in a desert road, doing target practice with a D2 they found, supervised by Lenny and Titan. Destiny is having a hard time with her aim, she keeps missing her shots. Once Lenny notices Takt and Destiny are running out of steam, he instructs Titan to destroy the D2 and puts an end to the lesson.

Takt is annoyed about having to fight, since he is a musician, not a warrior. Lenny explains that he needs to deal with being a Conductor, if they want to arrive safely to New York. He mentions that Destiny has very strong fighting instincts and Takt needs to meet her halfway, they need to train together and build rapport.

While Lenny is speaking with Takt, we see this cute scene in the background where Titan is teaching Destiny how to hold her own gun. It’s adorable.

A yellow truck stops on the highway and a young man calls out to them, wondering why they’re in the middle of the desert. Lenny recognizes the young man from one of his past missions and greets him. His name is Jonatan and he’s delighted to see Lenny and Titan. We learn Jonatan’s town was decimated by the D2s a while ago, and he along with the survivors were relocated to a refugee camp. Jonatan mentions that he and some other people have recently moved to work in a farm in Las Vegas, and that their life is quiet and peaceful. He offers the group to take them there to eat and rest.

Once they get to Las Vegas, we can definitely tell it is not casino-town anymore. Sure, the buildings are still there, but there are farms as far as the eye can see. Jonatan leads them through a corn field to meet his partner, Maggie, who is also very happy to see Lenny and Titan. Their reunion is cut short when Mr.Lang intervenes, and he is a creepy, creepy dude. Jonatan introduces him as the owner of the farm. Mr. Lang is curious about Lenny being a Symphonica Conductor, and invites him over to have dinner. Lenny declines, he has a previous engagement with Jonatan and Maggie.

During their dinner at the couple’s home, the group learn that the Symphonica recommended the farm to a lot of people as a good place to live and work. It is peaceful, they have a house, food on the table and Mr. Lang is a kind employer.

After dinner, Takt meets Lenny outside on the porch, he mentions that Lenny kept real quiet about the D2s they found in the desert. Lenny says he’d rather keep Jonatan and Maggie safe from the chaos, as they seem to have found a nice life after their own tragedy back in their hometown.
Here is another tidbit that we’ve come to learn about how the Symphonica handles things and the situation of the country: some towns have been completely cut off from communication, no telephones, no radios, no television. It is entirely possible that many, many towns have no idea the D2s are attacking other human settlements. It is terrifying.
Lenny tries to encourage Takt into training to be a better Conductor, and mentions that being a musician, he’d be great at getting in tune with Destiny’s power. After all, what could a musician desire more than being able to completely be in sync with music?

Later that night, Lenny and Titan meet with Mr. Lang in his fancy house. Lenny asks Mr. Lang if he’ll let them play, and just to drive the point home, he sets down a large amount of money in front of him. That’s a yes from Mr. Lang.
Meanwhile, the girls and Takt are getting ready to go to bed, but Destiny perceives a low resonation on the walls and the floor of the house. She follows the vibration across the room with her hands until she determines the presence of D2s nearby. They decide to follow Destiny’s hunch and find themselves in an abandoned and rundown lot, filled with broken-down cars and rubble. 
Destiny tracks the vibration through a large area and into a very elegant pool deck, filled with rich people, waiters and armed guards. Welcome to Las Vegas, indeed.

Destiny makes her way to the guards, following the low resonation to the bulding they’re guarding, and takes them out swiftly. The group is completely taken aback after opening the door and finding a shiny, loud casino inside. Destiny continues tracking the vibration through the floor.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lang shows Lenny and Titan the casino, and he’s very proud of all the work he’s put in to build it. Lenny mentions that the government gave him a nice grant for the farms outside, and Mr. Lang remarks that the Symphonica also played a big part in establishing the casino, that’s why he has a few select customers from the Symphonica that come to play from time to time.
Mr. Lang´s guards radio-in an intruder alert, identifying Takt, Anna and Destiny, while they’re wrecking havoc throughout the slot machines downstairs. Lenny plays dumb, but Mr. Lang is not having it and orders his guards to point their guns at him. Titan takes them out, no care in the world. She rocks.

Destiny suddenly stops in the middle of the casino floor and warns them about incoming D2s. Sure enough, three D2s break through the floor and terrorrize the people inside the casino. These D2s are kinda cute, not gonna lie.
Destiny and Takt get into action, and Lenny takes the opportunity to give them a few lessons on how to defeat the D2s efficiently. The first lesson is to defeat a D2 with 2 shots, the third lesson is to defeat the second D2 with a single hit of the sword and the third lesson is to incorporate the first two lessons into defeating the final D2. Destiny and Takt manage to sync for the first time, their eyes changing with golden accent in the iris, and destroy the D2s.

During the commotion, Mr. Lang attempts to escape, carrying bags filled with cash, he runs through the abandoned lot, desperate to flee. Titan’s caught up to him and declares he’s a piece of trash for taking advantage of people in need.
The next day, Takt and Lenny are saying their goodbyes, Takt remarking on how Lenny has chosen to protect innocent people in his wandering lifestyle. Lenny  mentions that it’s what Conductors should strive to do, having learned from Takt’s father. Takt is slightly surprised that Lenny figured out his relationship to Maestro Asahina.
After Takt, Anna and Destiny drive away to their next stop on their way to New York, Titan asks Lenny why he didn’t share more information with Takt. Lenny replies that it’s not yet time to reveal what he knows. Titan announces she gathered all the evidence from Mr. Lang’s documents and they now have a trail to follow, including their suspicions of a few Symphonica Conductors involved in the scheme.

Final thoughts
I really liked this episode, it gave us a bunch of information about the current state of affairs and a tiny glimspe of corruption spurred on by the Symphonica. Lenny is a great character and he’s obviously up to his neck in this mission. I sincerely believe he knew Jonatan was going to stop by that highway, and it was all planned. But, are Lenny and Titan on a mission by orders of the Symphonica? Or are they rogue?
Takt is still struggling with being a Conductor, which is realistic in the sense that he has no interest in fighting D2s other than defeating the ones found in their way to New York. He has no purpose as a Conductor.

Blue Period 1
I noticed there was a “kengaku” (study trip) in one of the sentences, but it was omitted. The subs said “You here for the art club?” or something similar.
500000 yen, huh? $5000…
These blue scenery shots really match the name “Blue Period”. Picasso himself, I believe, had a “blue period” due to depression.
To be fair, translation is an art. It’s also possible to study methods for it.
Mori? Her name is Yuka Mori? Update: I checked the wiki and it turns out “Yuka” is the blonde we keep seeing. Mori-senpai is the black-haired girl.
The moment where I sat up and took notice of this anime was when they started depicting Yatora flying around the buildings and then the world exploding into blue.
To be honest, I feel that if I hadn’t had a bunch of “artsy” friends, I would understand more about Yatora’s ambition. That way, I might have been more artsy myself.
Do kids even use the word “sick” these days???
My answer to Yatora’s question to Saeki-sensei is “…Because you love it.” That’s how I stumbled upon translation and how I got to the place I am right now, which, if you know me from magicalgirlsandcerulean, you’d know I’m currently working on getting a translation degree.
I would love to continue with this, but alas…it’s only on Netflix, so I only ever got access to this via my anime club.

    I knew I’d heard of BAND-MAID from somewhere and when this song kicked in, it was a nice reminder of oh right, that’s why I’ve heard of them because they make pretty good songs in the metal/rock genre. This track has a lot of good OP vibes to it and seems like a fun song to listen to on its own if you want to get hyped up for anything life throws at you.

    Sometimes, two things come together to form a perfect harmony. Like peanut butter and jelly, Demon Slayer and LiSA have formed a dynamic duo that has worked out so well with the first season and now the Mugen Train Arc. It’s yet another banger of an opening theme for this series and if you haven’t been watching this because you’ve already seen the movie, you should do yourself a favor and check out the arc just to hear this awesome song.

    After the last two songs, the takt op.Destiny opening seems to be on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, but that’s what you get with a show that heavily relies on classical symphonic music. This is still a really good opening, as it has a bit of a slower build than other openings on this list and doesn’t rely on the traditional ideas of the rock, pop, etc. genres. It’s an interesting blend of instruments that tries to create a modern take on symphonic music and is just a fun song to boot.

    If there’s one thing I’ve learned from doing these polls, it’s that quite a few of you are really into the opening themes 86 EIGHTY-SIX provides. Its previous opening made it into the top 5 and now the show is back with another offering. This opening has a good build-up throughout — I can certainly see how it could get viewers pumped up to watch the latest episode of the series.

    I can absolutely see how this OP could get the top slot — the beat is good and very catchy. It certainly seems to have a lot of earworm potential — this song will be stuck in your head for a while after hearing it. It’s never a bad choice to use something different that people might not expect — like a poppy dance track you’d be surprised to hear if you were just looking at the series by its name or genre. I think this song exemplifies that.

Rúnar Bjarnason at Scale
Rúnar is a functional programmer, book author, and speaker at developer conferences on the deep concepts in software engineering, using functional programming. He was one of the leading developers at Verizon working in Scala and deploying systems with Scalaz there (!), and is now working at Takt in Haskell. Runar is speaking at Scale By the Bay 2017. We asked him about his interests and career arc up to now.

1. How did you become interested in Functional Programming, and Scala specifically?
Back in 2006 or so, I was doing enterprise Java development on a system that millions of people relied on every day. I found that detecting and preventing bugs was incredibly difficult in that setting, so I looked around for a way to get better static guarantees about my code. That led me to Haskell, and functional programming. Since the system was tied to the JVM, I looked for something like Haskell for the JVM and came across Scala.
2. How were you able to influence a company as huge as Verizon with Scala, moreover, systems as complex and powerful as Scalaz? What are the lessons for others making their mark with FP in such organizations?
Verizon acquired my division from Intel, which was already using Scala when I joined them. A few teams in that division had run into a bit of trouble with Scala, particularly by choosing very poor-quality libraries and constructing complicated actor systems that nobody could really understand. It was exactly the kind of trouble I had run into in my Java days. I tried my hardest to turn them over to purely functional programming as a simplifying principle, and it had a very positive effect on people’s ability to reason about their own code and how it would behave at runtime.
The lesson to be learned is to stand on principle. The tide of technical debt is constantly trying to drown your team, and functional programming is a solid foundation on which you can build a barrier against that tide.
3. How did you pivot into Haskell? How do you see the relationship between Haskell, Scala, and perhaps other ML-family FP languages such as OCaml and F#?
I’ve been messing about with Haskell in my spare time ever since I came across it. Most of the Scala code I’ve written has first been sketched out in Haskell. It’s just a nicer language for me to think in.
I see Haskell as leading the way among FP languages today, and is certainly the most modern of the languages you mentioned. Haskell doesn’t compromise on principle, and yet is constantly evolving. I think Scala has adopted a lot of good ideas from Haskell, but also a lot of bad ideas from Java. I see modern OCaml and Scala as essentially similar, except OCaml doesn’t come with the burdens and benefits of Java compatibility. And F# is a kind of watered-down OCaml, as far as I’m concerned.
4. What is it about Takt that excites you the most, both business-wise and technology-wise? How is the startup environment at Takt different from Verizon for FP-centric systems, including engineering, devops, and data science?
The most exciting thing about Takt is that we get to work with some of the world’s most successful companies and put our code running in front of millions of people every day. I feel very privileged to be able to do that work purely functionally in Haskell, with a lot of people who are vastly smarter than I am.
One great thing about the startup environment at Takt is that nothing is really set in stone. If you have a good idea, you can run with it. On the other hand, we don’t get to draw on the vast resources of a huge company, so dev can turn into ops fairly easily, and vice versa.
5. How does Functional Programming help Machine Learning? How do you see the connection between Data Engineering and Data Science empowered by FP?
FP helps with Machine Learning in the same way that it helps with anything else: it simplifies, separates concerns, and facilitates composition.

Nuova serie animata dello storico franchise legato ai celebri mostri digitali, attualmente in lavorazione presso gli studi TOEI ANIMATION (Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, World Trigger).
L’anime è diretto da Kimitoshi Chioka (Dragon Ball Super) in coppia con Masato Mitsuka (Digimon Adventure:). La sceneggiatura è in mano a Masashi Sogo (Fairy Tail), mentre le musiche sono composte da Kow Otani (Mobile Suit Gundam Wing).
La storia inizia con delle strane voci online di avvistamenti di “fantasmi olografici”. Hiro inizia a vedere i Digimon dopo aver attivato un Digivice che gli ha lasciato suo padre e insieme a Gammamon comincia a indagare sugli insoliti fenomeni che accadono intorno a loro. È così che durante la sua vita quotidiana, lentamente mette piede nel mondo dei Digimon.
Il design dei personaggi è stato concepito dal mangaka Tenya Yabuno (Inazuma Eleven, Pokémon Horizon: Sun & Moon) ed è stato adattato da Mariko Ito (Anonymous Noise). Per quanto riguarda i Digimon, invece, il design ad opera di Cho Shinozuka si basa su quello originale creato da Kenji Watanabe.

LET’S MAKE A MUG TOO (Stagione 2)

Seconda stagione della serie slice of life basata sull’omonimo manga promozionale dedicato alla città di Tajimi e all’arte della ceramica. L’anime viene accompagnato anche da una sezione live-action, durante la quale le doppiatrici delle protagoniste si cimentano in varie attività, visitando un po’ la città e provando i manicaretti locali.
La città di Tajimi, situata nella parte meridionale della prefettura di Gifu, in Giappone, è famosa per la terracotta Mino. La città è costellata di produttori di ceramiche storiche e di musei d'arte ceramica. Dispone di strutture dove è possibile cimentarsi nella lavorazione della ceramica e di molti ristoranti che servono cibo su piatti Minoware. La storia inizia quando una liceale si trasferisce in una via dello shopping a Tajimi. La aspettano molti incontri, amici, gente di città, arte della ceramica e tanto altro!
A dirigere l’adattamento presso gli studi NIPPON ANIMATION (Anna dai capelli rossi, Haikara-san ga Tooru Movie) è ancora Jun Kamiya (Kingdom). La sceneggiatura è curata di nuovo da Naruhisa Arakawa (Maoyuu Maou Yuusha), mentre è sempre Ayano Yoshioka a supervisionare il comparto animazioni e il character design.

Terza stagione della serie sci-fi tratta dall’omonimo shonen manga di Daisuke Ashihara, edito in Italia da Star Comics.
Un giorno, nella città di Mikado si aprì un Portale verso un altro mondo. I Neighbor, invasori provenienti da un'altra dimensione, invasero l'area attorno al Portale, gettando la città nel panico. A sorpresa, un'organizzazione misteriosa fece la sua comparsa e scacciò i Neighbor. L'organizzazione, chiamata Border Defence Agency, svolge ricerche indipendenti sulla tecnologia Neighbor e combatte per difendere il nostro mondo. In poco tempo costruirono un'enorme base e misero a punto un sistema di difesa contro i Neighbor. Da quel giorno sono passati quattro anni.
Prodotta sempre da TOEI ANIMATION (Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, World Trigger), la regia della serie è affidata a Morio Hatano (Dragon Ball Super, Saint Seiya Omega). Nuova trilogia di OVA basata sul manga fantasy di Kore Yamazaki, edito in Italia da Star Comics. Il primo episodio è stato allegato al volume numero 16 del fumetto, uscito in Giappone il 10 settembre, mentre gli altri usciranno il 10 marzo 2022 e il 10 settembre 2022.
Poco prima che Chise diventasse una studentessa a tempo pieno, durante il sonnellino di Cartaphilus... Chise ha ricevuto un invito all'accademia e lei, con l'aiuto di Elias e degli altri, ha iniziato a prepararsi. In un giorno tanto pieno, è arrivato uno spriggan a casa sua su uno strano cavallo a recare un messaggio secondo cui "qualcosa di male sarebbe accaduto durante la caccia selvaggia". Gabriel, un normale ragazzo appena trasferito da Londra, era annoiato. Da questa situazione in cui era lontano dai suoi amici e in una terra a lui estranea. Da tutto. Guardava fuori dalla finestra, come se volesse fuggire attraverso essa, quando ha scorto del fumo di tabacco. Quando è corso fuori per rincorrerlo è successo l'impossibile: il suo mondo ha iniziato a sovrapporsi a quello nascosto dei maghi.
Questo nuovo adattamento è considerato la prima parte di un nuovo progetto d’animazione, preso in carico dal neonato STUDIO KAFKA, appena fondato da Kouichi Naruse, ex membro di WIT STUDIO (After the Rain, L’Attacco dei Giganti, Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song), assieme agli animatori Takahiko Abiru (designer e direttore d’animazione in Vinland Saga) e Kazuaki Terasawa (direttore d’episodio in Overlord II e Anonymous Noise).
La regia dell’anime è affidata proprio a quest’ultimo, mentre alla sceneggiatura ritorna Aya Takaha (The Ancient Magus’ Bride, The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Those Awaiting a Star), con al fianco Yoko Yonaiyama (Uma Musume Pretty Derby). Il design dei personaggi è sempre curato da Hirotaka Katou (Hoozuki no Reitetsu, The Ancient Magus’ Bride) e anche le musiche sono firmate ancora una volta da Junichi Matsumoto (Plunderer, The Ancient Magus’ Bride).

BUILD DIVIDE #000000 Code Black: l’anime arriverà su Crunchyroll dal 9 ottobre
Le puntate della serie usciranno tutti i sabati alle 19:00.

Il palinsesto autunnale 2021 di Crunchyroll si va ad arricchire con un nuovo titolo. La piattaforma di streaming ha infatti annunciato che dal 9 ottobre porterà in simulcast anche “Build Divide #000000 Code Black”, l’originale serie animata ispirata al nuovo gioco di carte collezionabili targato Aniplex.
Gli episodi sottotitolati in italiano saranno disponibili ogni sabato dalle ore 19:00 e la serie ci terrà compagnia per due stagioni: la prima andrà appunto in onda questo autunno, mentre la seconda parte verrà trasmessa da aprile 2022.

Il soggetto originale dietro al progetto è stato concepito da Homura Kawamoto, l’autore di “Kakegurui”, assieme al fratello minore Hikaru Muno (Kakegurui Trip, Kakegurui Joker, Greatest M: Ijin Mahjong Taisen).

Ci sono delle voci che circolano a Shin Kyoto. “Chiunque sia in grado di sconfiggere il Re nel Build-Divide potrà ottenere qualsiasi cosa desideri.”
Per poter sfidare il Re, bisogna prima prender parte a uno scontro chiamato Rebuild. Lì è necessario completare la “Chiave”.

Il giovane Teruto Kurabe  giura di sconfiggere il Re in modo da ottenere ciò a cui ambisce. Lui, sotto la tenue guida della misteriosa Sakura Banka, s'immerge nella Rebuild Battle. Ora, la città di Shin Kyoto è il palco del gioco chiamato BUILD-DIVIDE! Guarda come si dipaneranno le battaglie di Teruto e dei suoi amici!
L’anime è diretto da Yuki Komada (assistente di regia in Blade of the Immortal) presso lo studio LIDEN FILMS (Tokyo Revengers, Cells at Work! Black). La sceneggiatura è curata da Yoriko Tomita (As Miss Beelzebub Likes, Osamake: Romcom Where The Childhood Friend Won’t Lose), mentre il character design è in mano a Shinpei Tomooka (Il Sole Penetra le Illusioni, Trinity Seven).

The leaves haven’t come close to changing or falling and there’s probably still a heat wave or two in the offing, but that isn’t stopping us from plucking fifteen of the fifty or so anime that will air in the Fall and adding them to out tentative watchlist, as we tend to do this time of year.
