Billy's Partners and How They Would Confront Neil

Harringrove/Steve: Steve is definitely throwing his weight around. His mom is really respected in the community after all. Neil wouldn't expect him to hold up in a physical fight though, but I think he could do it if he was really feeling himself.

Mungrove/Eddie: Totally theatrical. Eddie makes plans and has the whole speech planned and again, I don't think he'd be totally out of it in a physical fight. But he would want to fight with words.

Byergrove/Jonathan: Most prepared, A for Effort. His speech might be a little nervous but if Neil attacks him he's READY. He has a whole bag packed in his car for Billy he's doing this thing.

Calicheer/Chrissy: She does not want it to get physical, she's doing everything she can to not have that happen. I do think Neil might be able to cow her into tears but she would take Billy and run and between her cheer friends she can find a place to hide him.

Wheelgrove/Nancy: Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice, she would totally charm Neil into a conversation and then turn the tables on him. Also she would bring a little backup weapon, though I don't think she would want to use it unless as a last resort.

Cargrove/Jason: Most unhinged. It is absolutely getting physical, and I don't know if he would win but by God he would stand up for his man. Also he would scream bible verses as retorts.

Hollogrove/Heather: Similar to Eddie where she plans a speech, but I think it would be the meanest speech. 100% Neil cries for this one. She also has a bag packed for Billy at her house, but I think if it got physical she would run.

LMK if there's a Billy Rarepair you'd like to see because Billy should get his defenders and his moment!

13.something i've learned from the fandom: give me a minute to just say that y'all are some of the most resilient people i have ever met and i really admire that!! it's not easy to openly love a character/ship in a very mean and hateful fandom, but that doesn't stop you - it almost fuels you to continue to create what you want and to not let anyone stop you!! anyways, the hg community is truly a diamond in the rough and i'm so happy to be a small part of it bc i've learned a lot about abuse victims, i gained more sympathy for people who are ‘bad’ abuse survivors, i have different perspective on things, etc. basically you've opened my mind even further than it was before lol i appreciate you all!! 🤍

1. ride or die ship (your otp): CUNNINGWAY!!! They’re my girls. Chrissy and Heather my beloveds. I have never been so hyped for a ship before and this is the first time I’ve put this much effort into one, but if I don’t advocate for this rarepair then who will? (the answer is bambi. bambi will. but whatever, you get the point)

2. most annoying ship: there isn’t really a ship i find WHOLLY annoying. stancy maybe. i also think jancy and mileven have ran their course and jopper gives me a lil bit of the ick. obvi no hate to the ships or those that ship it!!

3. second favourite ship: ima have to say harringrove, but there are others i like a lot too!!

4. favourite platonic relationship: heather, chrissy & billy. the chaos trio. more should be done with them <3

5. underrated ship: there are so many!! argyle/chrissy (which i am lovingly referring to as pompompinapple, just try and stop me)? byergrove (billy/jonathan)? calicheer (billy/chrissy)??? how can i possibly choose????

6. overrated ship: uhhhh this feels dangerous. but steddie. dont get me wrong, i love this ship, but the boom in works for them was INSANE cause i dont think they have TOO MUCH chemistry in canon (tho there 100% is a good bit and it makes sense)

7. one thing i would change in canon: the blatant lack of care the main cast have for characters outside their group. no empathy for billy, barely anyone looking into heather, characters dying that no one mentions again…

8. something canon did right: I really liked steve and dustin’s dynamic. like, a LOT. they cocked it up a bit in s4 for the sake of ‘haha, dumb steve’ but yeah. theyre sweet :)

9. a thing i’m proud of creating for the fandom: my sideblog @poolsidepanic . i know that its a niche ship but i hope i help other people who love them as much as me actually be able to enjoy their ship and not just… be disappointed when they come up empty handed. the art and little fics and such i make over there make me so happy <3

10. a character who is perfect to me (wouldnt change a thing): heather. sassy, bitchy, yet kindhearted lifeguard? yes. the only thing id change is the DISSERVICE THE DUFFERS GAVE HER WHEN THEY KILLED HER AND IGNORED HER EXISTENCE.

11. the character i relate most to the most and why: steve. just how he responds to the offhanded comments the people he cares about make to him, that they never seem to realise hurt.

13. something ive learned from the fandom: idk. ive always wanted to be a positive person but seeing some of the toxicity in the fandom has made me really want to keep my little blog as positive and safe as i can for everyone. some things we see SUCK but if i can make someones day a lil better id like to? so not really a learn but an encouragement to be nicer wherever i can

14. three tags i seek out on ao3: i dont read a lot of st fanfiction, actually. i havent been in the mood for it for AGES!! but in general im a slow burn, hurt/comfort, angst kind of person. i love the occasional, agonising right person not enough time or some character bashing for the sake of compelling suffering (if done right!!!)

of course! KYD is a red vs blue fanfic where North dies on the oil platform and South gets Theta. It includes some of my favorite Wash headcanons like Deaf!Wash and Locington Siblings, and some of my favorite Dakota Twins headcanons like them being Ukrainian immigrants and CODAs. There's also some South9 before South self-sabotages. And another change besides North's death is that Epsilon does a lot more damage to Wash's brain than he does in the show.

I have four chapters (15k words) written, through the Freelancer Saga flashbacks up to the end of the Blood Gulch Chronicles, though I kinda hit a wall with inspiration and then my interests changed. Here's a snippet from Chapter Two where Wash, South, and Niner are hiding from Freelancer post-MoI crash with Connie at the dig site:

Eating breakfast together in the Pelican becomes routine. Sometimes, Connie joins them, but she can barely look at Wash and hurries back to her boyfriend as soon as her food is eaten.

Every morning, Dakota grabs MREs for each of them before going back to the tent she shares with Wash and leading him to the ship by the hand. He sits down, always in the same seat, and opens the meal when prompted, while Dakota wakes up Ash and lets her choose out of the remaining two packages. The two of them sit cross-legged on the floor, knees brushing, eating in silence or soft conversation that Wash only occasionally adds to.

His speech still stutters and slurs, and his train of thought veers from side to side before eventually meandering to where he means to go.

One morning, a thought hits Vita while her mouth is full of food and she holds up her hands. “Can you still sign?” she asks.

Wash stares at her, blinking in confusion for a moment before responding with clumsy fingers. “Yes, but English and ICSL are hard.”

“What’s your first language?”

“Salvadoran Sign Language. And then the Caliche dialect of Spanish. Then Inter-Colony Sign. And then English.”

Theta whirrs happily in the back of her skull, reaching out to the network before returning with two new languages.

Thanks, Dakota tells him before turning back to Wash, reaching out to her AI for vocabulary and grammar. “Is this understandable?” she asks, far more fluently than she thought possible. “Or am I fucking it up?”

A slow smile spreads across Wash’s face and he nods. “I can understand you. Thank you. This is so much easier.”

“Yeah, I bet. Four languages is a lot. I grew up with two and then learned English the old-fashioned way. Theta fetched this for me off the network. He grabbed Caliche, too, if you feel like talking.”

Wash’s face shutters at that and he shakes his head, turning back to his food.

Niner glances between the two of them. “What was that?”

“He’s Deaf,” South explains, signing and speaking simultaneously, as if she were back in Tacoma, sitting around the dining table with her parents and brother, talking about their days at school and work. “I thought maybe sign might be easier for him right now with as fucked up as his brain is. I was half right.”

Niner nods. “Makes sense. I’ll have to learn.”

“I could teach you,” Dakota offers before she’s thought it all the way through.

Ash smiles at her, and all apprehension vanishes. “Sounds great.”

3. second favourite ship: Mungrove! This is only listed as second because Harringrove came first but Mungrove is at the same level as Harringrove for me as far as love/enjoyment wise :3

5. underrated ship: Calicheer! I just- I love them.

6. overrated ship: Eh- I mean there's popular ships but nothing is really overrated. All ships, even popular ones or ones that don't makes sense are worth while to someone.

8. something canon did right: Lumax. They are just good for each other. Probably one of the most wholesome, true to life ships that just feels right.

10. a character who is perfect to me (wouldn't change a thing): Murray!!!!!!!! and you're all lucky I've kept my murrayposting private because he lives rent free on his own couch in my brain

11. the character i relate to the most and why: Steve is the one I personally relate to the most. I do have a few things that I relate too with Billy & Eddie, but Steve is the one I find myself reminded of most. Not for what people would think, but for certain personality qualities.

12. character i hate the most and why: Hate is a strong word for fandom because these are just characters in a story that have no real effect on me. However my least enjoyed characters are Nancy and Jonathan. I see a lot of my own family in them for various reasons and I just don't enjoy them. No hate though. I don't subscribe to the concept of vitriol against fictional characters or those who enjoy them.

Jason is a close runner up, but I don't necessarily hate him in any way but I just am uncomfortable with shipping him for myself. He's a great character and I truly wish I could enjoy him in fics.

13. something i've learned from the fandom: Mistakes aren't the end all be all of who we are. We make them and if we make up for them through action, then they don't have to define us forever.
