ahhh i missed this!

well since i've already been reblogging stuff about how the shire is not an ideal society i'll pick something else (that was one of the things that has been on my mind with my re-read of lotr)

you'll know this one if you've been following me since i started this blog but that's not the case for a lot of people so! i hate how the lord of the rings fandom tries to force the setting into the middle ages. and ignores the /heavy/ influence of Egyptian myth (and some history!) in the story. or if you point out that the technology is more advanced than that they make it like it's the middle ages everywhere but the shire. (since the shire is dealing with things like tissue-paper) acting like everyone is just throwing their shit in the streets. there's nothing to support that imao and i wish people would study world history more and see what inventions heralded other inventions. not just going oh they don't know about germs! let's make it as gross as possible! (when plenty of civilizations have existed with cleanliness because of correlation + the whole thing with shit being everywhere being gross) there's no reason to have sewage flowing through the streets of gondor when they have fountains several stories high. idk it just Bothers me.

also since you sent two flames i'll add this: i love boromir but i think people over-corrected on standing up for him and made him too 'perfect' or 'did nothing wrong' and i get it but also his flaw was believing in strength of arms alone and the idea of Strength as being the Best is one that goes hand in hand with the idea of wars and armies and certain countries being Superior and there's a real reason he slipped up. i love him and i get his despair and i understand why he thinks the way he does and i'm not saying he deserved to die but he was by no means perfect and tbh he made me uncomfortable as a small child with no real Strength because of how much he idolises physical strength. like i do love him now but he represents a lie that so many boys/men (and women and girls tbh) are told

Ngl, the idea of astarion shaking wyll down for pointers on a really romantic but genuine date is the perfect set up for some kind of rom com side plot where everything goes a little wonky and off-kilter but ends very sweetly. Maybe astarion goes to specifically wyll for advice and the rest of the party, all with their own wildly disparate ideas of romance, decide this is their chance for mischief trying to influence him. Ultimately it’s the thought and effort that his partner probably appreciates most, and they do get a very funny story out of it!

Oh he knows it would have to be Wyll, the rest of the tadpals are hopeless.

In this scenario, I could it more, they all think they know better right? Gale most all.

Wyll is being to old-fashioned or flowery or something. They all try their best to give him "actual" good advice. Which he has to continully run from.

Maybe they even try to arrange some outings for him and Tav that they just know will go well.

At the end of the day, Astarion is threatening lives and Tav is laughing it off.

3 ships: trying to search my brain for answers other than the extremely predictable.... but like. what am i but predictable. ill go with sambucky, penntin, and wake/pyrrha (to mix things up a bit. ive never read fic for them but i think so much about them. extremely toxic old women in desperate love and hate 💕)

first ship: idk how to know this! probably something from That Book Series bc im of that age. im a millenial. on the internet. with the interests i have.

last song: superposition by young the giant

currently (re)reading: gideon the ninth with my partners! and debating the stack of unread books next to my bed that i should dive into

last movie: the last one i watched was tws but thats for the four millionth time. so. but the last one i watched for the first time was reptile which was not good.

currently craving: i don't know that im craving anything, so to speak. maybe inspiration/motivation to work on creative projects that ive put to the side for too long.
