it’s a multi-part interview with multiple people! they all write about Murven and they’re all available for prompts via @bellarkefic-for-blm. it is my pleasure to re-introduce elle (@hopskipaway), jenn (@easilydistractedbyfanfic) and ryn ( @animmortalist). it’s also a bit of a follow-up interview since i’ve already interviewed everyone, jenn and elle before they signed up for @t100fic-for-blm! our first part is a collection of icebreaker questions to warm you all up before we get into the heart of the interview.
why did you decide to start writing for @t100fic-for-blm?
I have been involved with politics for a long time and social, racial and economic justice issues are very important to me. I believe the systemic problems we have in this country require true revolution in order to force change, and right now it’s more difficult for me to get out out into the world and speak my mind and march and protest because I have young children, so when I saw the BLM Initiative happening in the t100 fandom and that I could participate by writing for my fave characters, I jumped at the chance. Huge thanks to everyone submitting prompts & donations and of course to @burninghoneyatdusk for organizing the whole thing! -jenn
I really wanted to make a change to my everyday life that helped people, and specifically, helped blm. I saw it on the dash and knew it was something I wanted to do, and was passionate about. It’s so amazing how many people have joined. All who write different ships and love different characters, but have the same goal of helping the movement and doing what they can. -ryn
i heard about this initiative through jenn! i was having a lot of fun even just following it (and requesting some fics) so i decided to join in. i’ve been in a bit of a writer’s block, so i thought this would be a good way to get out of that - as well as support a great cause! -elle
two sentences of your WIP:
i actually don’t have anything written yet as i joined the initiative not too long ago; but i do have a couple wips in the planning stages! be on the lookout for some anomaly fun and post-apocalyptic (a different apocalypse) drama! -elle

“Murphy’s not one to pass up eavesdropping, not when it’s so convenient anyway, and especially not when there’s a serious lack of entertainment during the long days in space. There’s no one else in the corridor, so he crouches down like he’s fixing the lace on his boot and tilts his ear towards the door so he can pick up on the latest.” -jenn

JENN-- I don’t know @animmortalist very well but I’m intrigued with a new story she’s writing and I’m looking forward to checking it out! It’s got Clarke & Raven as single mom best friends who get knocked up by Bellamy & Murphy respectively, and of course I can’t resist the Raven/Murphy pairing, so count me in!
I started chatting with @hopskipaway a while back due to our shared love of Murven and I really appreciate that we have some similar takes on these characters, the show and the overall fandom. She’s got a great sense of humor about it all and puts up with my ranting. And she has some great ideas about Murven stories that we all have to nag her to write so we can read them, and if we’re lucky she’ll make moodboards for them too!
ELLE-- this is the best question, because they are two of my favourites. for jenn, she’s one of the main reasons i’m as into murven as i am. their writing is so amazing, and you can tell she really knows the characters so well. each story is so artfully planned out and so very thoughtful. even beyond writing, jenn has become one of my favourite fandom pals, i love each and every one of our conversations and interactions - they’re the best!! ryn is someone i’ve admired from afar for a while now. myself and one of my clurphy loving friends bonded over “rock bottom” and whenever i see a new story from her i’m so excited! i’d go as far to say she’s the blueprint for modern aus - they’re always so fun and interesting. her attention to detail with all her moodboards and playlists is just amazing. both of these lovely writers inspire me so much, please go out and give them so much love - they deserve it.
RYN-- Jenn: Is so freaking talented and has written so many wonderful murven stories. I’m also so amazingly appreciative of the positivity and kindness which I’ve seen across the dash and discord.
Elle: One of the kindest people oml. I have so much love for Elle, and am so grateful to her for being a truly fantastic reader. One of my all-time favorite asks is from her. Just a wonderful presence in the fandom for whom we should all be grateful.

1. Castiel didn’t come to the decision easily; it shamed him to say that it had been, in no small part, a question of pride. (SPN. pre-s4 canon-divergence AU. The idea was inspired by this anon’s prompt).
2. A man in a trench coat had lurked on the corner of his eye all day; now, he waited for Dean outside his motel’s room. (SPN. This one was also inspired by an anon’s prompt (smh); it’s a Meg and Castiel role reversal AU, so now I have a whole ‘verse in my head with demon!Castiel and angel!Meg and how they’d fit in the story, meet the Winchesters, etc.).
3. Sometimes Bela indulged in the thought that the worst thing about Hell was the tedium, the rutine and repetition of the day to day; but then, the torture started. (SPN. My “Castiel gets Bela out of Hell” AU).

5. In the upcoming days, Silver will work hard to forget this truth: when he dared to reveal his true nature to the crew, it wasn’t because he sorely needed to replentish his energy after losing his leg; it was because he’d hoped they would kill him. (Black Sails. Vampire Silver AU).
6. John Murphy’s second life started when he woke up hungry and filthy in a half dug mass grave. (The 100. Vampire Memori AU -part of my Vamp/Blade T100 AU series. Indra is Blade btw xD).
7. The last thing Anna espected was to open her eyes again after Michael’s attack. (SPN. Self-indulgent Anna/Mary AU).
8. “I take it the interrogation didn’t go your way.” Castiel couldn’t stop himself from needling Dean, who glared at him while his hands still shook. (SPN. Endverse!Megstiel story).

10. Someone else might have thought they just woke up from a nightmare, but Silver knew his head had just hit against the rocks. (Black Sails. Max & Silver, Russian Doll inspired fusion, set in s1 of the show).
11. After talking with the rattled Ms. Bose, Jo could feel her luck in this hunt was finally changing. (SPN. Bela/Jo, s3 canon-divergence AU. Three guesses as to who is Ms. Bose).
12. Sam had put if off when Lucifer started raising; when he and Dean were on the plane; when Zachariah had them spilling their guts; in the hospital... but finally, he reunited a few seconds of calm to freak. The fuck. Out. (SPN. My Ruby’s Terror Twins series lmao -Ruby screams out she’s pregnant, shocks Sam and Dean enough she can escape with her knife. Then, a few months later...).
13. Ruby opened her eyes, and immediately knew two things: the slash in her stomach was healed, and she’d put her faith in the right deity. (SPN. Ruby Lives AU. Ideally, a rewrite, but that might be too ambitious xD. Of s5, sure).

16. What Moira first noticed about Akeri was the book he’d tried to hide beneath his clothes; the carved marks on his cheeks came second. (Black Sails. Maroon Queen x Mr. Scott -who I gave alternate names because I can’t write an entire fic about them and pretend they call each other that lol).
17. Alastair spoke to Dean in a tone that sat in between that of a lover and a proud father. (SPN. Alastair brings Bela for Dean to torture).
18. The letters -all four of them now- never came signed; for that matter, there was nothing specific or damning enough, no misstep hidden within them that he could have used, and so he stopped looking for those. (Black Sails. Rackham x Rogers Foe Yay post finale lol).
19. That very night Silver will curse himself for his naivete, for thinking you can escape from something while you plant roots on a place; but in truth, the day had started so well. (Black Sails. An attempt to explore certain ideas about Silver’s past that’s likely to go nowhere lol).
20. At the ten year mark Silver returned to land and found the wrong woman waiting for him on the beach. (Black Sails. A weird “Silver ends as the captain of the Flying Dutchman” canon-compliant AU).
Patterns: ig the most notable one is that I like to throw the reader in the middle of the action, especially in fic. Often I go back and elaborate on the context, but I like a cold open xD
Favourite: I’m very happy with them all (first lines matter to me), but I’m especially fond of 9 and 14 for Latoya and Eva’s dramatics; 5 with vampire!Silver (ouchie); and 13 for the irony xD

ok ok so last night i finished The Rain which is a Scandinavian netflix show and it is everything i wanted and expected the 100 to be and it is so extremely satisfying in every way.
when i started watching t100 i thought, okay this will be a post-apocalyptic show about character and survival. the delinquents will get to the ground and while they try to survive, we’ll learn a little about each of their pasts via flashbacks in every episode, a la orange is the new black. this pretty blonde girl is gonna fall in love with the hot misunderstood bad guy in s2 and there’s gonna be a lot of angst when it doesn’t work out. and this siblings-willing-to-kill-for-each-other destructive loyalty is going to be a major wrench in every other relationship. i also thought there would be lots of moments of fun and levity because it’s a teen show with teens in it.
obvs that is not what i got, but that is everything The Rain is. The Rain is like someone watched t100, was like “this is bullshit” and decided to fix everything wrong with it. the group dynamic is point for point t100, except simone, the clarke character, is the older sibling who traps her brother in a bunker for six years post-apocalypse.
martin is so bellamy that by the end of s2 i was basically just rolling around in my bed like i do while reading particularly good fanfic, going “oh my god oh my goddd” and rewatching my favorite parts repeatedly. there’s so much h/c and angst between them, and at one point martin actually literally says “tell me what you need” a la every bellarke fic ever written. martin’s second in command is patrick, who is basically murphy, and lea is like wells if he hadn’t been killed off, and jean is jasper, and it’s just perfect.
oh oh! and there’s an ace couple!! and it’s not like “lol we are asexual” but that’s very plainly what it is. this show really runs the gamut of good relationships. even the sibling relationship between simone and rasmus is on point. no matter how bad things are they can always cheer each other up!! and no matter how dark the story gets, there’s so much time spent on the good times and the fun they all have with each other. and when characters die, the entire group mourns. it’s amazing. just amazing.
i’m so in love. please watch it. please send me asks about it. i want to write fic but i don’t have time so i just have to write it in my head. my only idea right now is a post-canon fic in which they all make it out of the quarantine zone and resume their normal lives, and it’s like 10 years later when simone and martin run into each other again, which would include flashback codas to canon probs?
there are only 22 fics for this show which is a TRAVESTY. please someone gush with me.

WHAT IS THIS INITIATIVE?
This initiative is an opportunity for the t100 fandom to directly support the Black Lives Matter cause through fanfiction and fanart. In exchange for making a donation to an organization that supports the BLM cause, you may prompt a writer or creator for a fic or art piece of your choice. Check out our FAQ below or our carrd for more information.
As of 9 January 2021, $6,722 has been donated to 113 organizations and funds via the initiative. The completed fics prompted for this initiative can be viewed in our ao3 collection.
To stay updated on both our initiative and other BLM resources, you can subscribe to our bimonthly newsletter here!
This initiative is inclusive of all ships and characters for both prompts and participants.
HOW DO I SUBMIT A PROMPT?
You can submit a prompt to a writer or creator via the google form linked here. The google form will guide you step-by-step through the process of submitting a prompt.
View our writers page or creators page to check out who you can submit a prompt to. If you are open to any participant writing or creating your prompt, there is an option to submit without selecting a specific writer or creator. In this case, the prompt will be offered to our group and an interested writer or creator will claim it.
For fanfiction, you will be given the option to submit a prompt as a one-shot or multi-chapter fic. Please note that if you request a multi-chapter fic - or leave it up to the writer and they choose to write a multi-chapter fic - the writer will do their best to finish the fic in a timely manner. However, in order to guarantee updates, you would need to make a separate donation/prompt. As a reminder, we do accept non-financial donations. You can check out our FAQ below for more details on that option.
While it is necessary to sign into your google account in order to submit your donation receipt, please note that this information will remain confidential and will only be viewed by the initiative administrator, not other writers or creators. No, there is no minimum amount required. No donation amount is too small and any amount you can afford helps.

If you would like to submit a prompt but cannot financially donate, please let us know how you are able to support the movement in another way, aside from sharing things on social media. The t100 Writers for BLM Initiative Donation Celebration
THE GOOD NEWS
The team set a goal of raising $2,000 by the series finale, and because our writers, creators, and readers are incredible, we’ve already managed to surpass that! A big thank you to all those who have donated & submitted prompts.
THE BETTER NEWS
We decided that we want to keep this momentum moving forward and do something fun for our readers at the same time - and so, the t100 Writers for BLM Initiative will be hosting a donation celebration if we reach our new goal of $2,500 by the series finale.
CELEBRATION GUIDELINES & TIMELINE
From August 25th through September 30th, for every new prompt we receive for $5 or more, the prompter will have the opportunity to provide theme & trope suggestions they would like to see writers utilize in their fics.
After September 30th, if our goal of $2,500 is met, the team will compile a list of all the themes and tropes submitted by prompters and send a link to a second survey where prompt submitters can vote for their top 3 themes and top 8 tropes.
From October 1st - 7th, via the survey, prompters will be able to vote for their favorite themes & tropes from a list consisting of all the themes & tropes submitted by the prompters.
From October 8th - 14th, the team will select the top 3 themes and top 8 tropes as voted by the prompters and provide them to the writers. The writers will choose 1 theme and 4 tropes to write a story for their selected ship.
From October 15th - 18th, content creators will review the story ideas and select a story they want to create artwork for.
From November 29th - December 5th, writers and creators will post the stories of at least 3k words and the corresponding art. The publications will be spread out throughout the week so that there is an entire week of continuous new content.

an interview with @mobi-on-a-mission (she/her)
what are you working on right now?
I'm in between fics right now after posting The Cockroach recently for Chopped! I'll likely start something new soon (I'm thinking of a canonverse forbidden lovers fic?), but we'll see where the muse takes me! When I'm not busy writing fic or being a human disaster I like to beta read. I beta read several fics for the Bellarke Big Bang, and I'm really excited to read them in their final form once that comes out! Beta reading may not be the first thing people think of with writing, but it's really elevated my experience with fanfic. It's a great way to let out my inner critic, participate in the writing process from a different angle, and read new fics before anyone else (hehe!) while helping out other writers. Going beyond 'this doesn't work' to 'this particular aspect isn't coming through right and here are some ideas on how to fix it' is the crucial step and has really made me a better writer!
I'm also excited to be accepting prompts for Bellarke Writers for Black Lives Matter. Send me a prompt and a donation to an organization of your choice which supports the BLM movement, and I'll write you a fanfic!
what’s something you’d like to write one day?
I usually write whatever I want to write! One thing I've never tried though is an ot3. I enjoy them but at this point I don't think I could do that sort of relationship justice.
what is the fanwork you’re most proud of?
Honestly I'm proud of all my fics. Each one carries its own challenges and rewards, so I never get in a rut! The work I'm most proud of, though, has got to be Revive. It's a canon compliant through s6 Memori pregnancy multichap that I wrote during hiatus. It's by far the longest fic I've ever written, and I wrote it at a time when I was still very uncomfortable writing fic. I must have had my eyes closed half the time I was drafting it, I was so nervous! But I finished it and posted it and from there on writing was just that much easier. I haven't looked back since.
why did you first start writing fic?
I wrote my first "fic" in 2014, when I was 14 years old. Then I came back a year later with a really short oneshot. Both of those were for Supernatural, and they're still on my ao3. I was extremely nervous about writing, especially with the fear that my family would find out what I was doing. That fear kept me from writing for years and years, pining to write something. That is, until last July. I'd had enough. So I sat myself down and made myself write, every dad for three days until The Best Back Rubs (my first fic for The 100) was written. Again after that fic I had trouble writing. Four months later though I started writing Revive and like I said earlier, I just kept writing after that!
what frustrates you most about fic writing?
The most frustrating thing about fic writing is lukewarm reception. As much as I hate to admit it, validation is important to me and I like to feel like people are enjoying what I write. When I spend a lot of time on a fic and get excited about posting it, a part of me is expecting a whole bunch of comments and kudos and hits. Sometimes that doesn't happen though! Usually that doesn't happen. I have to remind myself that those responses are not reflective of my value as a writer. My friends are a huge help with this!
what are your top five songs right now?

what are your inspirations?
My inspiration is a little bit different for every fic I write. I tend toward canonverse, so I pull from interesting aspects of canon and then let my imagination run wild with *what if*s. My own life inspires my writing as well. This helps me to add in little details to make the story feel more real. I've been inspired by writing prompts and movies and songs and other fics and snow falling outside my window!
The one thing that's constant is other writers. I learn so much from reading, beta reading, and of course talking to my friends! They help to give me ideas as well as motivation to keep going. Writing can be a lonely pursuit, but it doesn't have to be. There's only so much going on in my brain—connecting with others is what brings things to the next level.
what first attracted you to Memori? what attracts you now?
From the first time they locked eyes, I shipped it a little! But in the beginning, I wasn't that invested in Memori. I kind of took them for granted until s5. But more on that later. What first attracted me to Memori was how non-traditional they are in that they're not standard cut good guys yet they were allowed to meet and fall in love. Add on top of that how they make each other better in a nuanced and imperfect way, and I'm hooked! I also really liked how they didn't beat around the bush with getting together. In a world where slowburn is seen as peak romance, it was refreshing to see a couple that was just like 'you? I like you' and then they got together and eventually became what is (in my possibly biased eyes) the strongest couple on the show at this point. Getting into s5, that's when I really became invested in the ship. It hurt to see their relationship problems like that, but it allowed them to grow from it in a beautiful way. Through it all, they have so much love for each other. They're imperfect people and they make mistakes, but at the end of the day they learn from it and become better as a couple than they are alone. Their devotion to each other really is something else!
Besides Memori, what character or pairing do you like best on t100?
Funny story: I actually decided to start watching The 100 after reading Bellarke smut on ao3! It was a non-traditional introduction to the story, but something must have clicked with me and I was a Bellarke shipper from the start (even though I frankly detested Bellamy in the beginning). I still ship them, even though Memori has taken my heart! Oh yeah and I got to give a shoutout to Niytavia as well because apparently canon isn't going to feed us with content for them.
why did you decide to start writing for bellarkefic-for-blm?
It's pretty simple, really: Black lives matter should not be a controversial statement, and this is one of the ways I can help make our world a little less sucky for Black people.
what’s your writing process like (esp for prompts, chopped!, etc)?
Every fic I write begins with a hodge podge of ideas. Sometimes I scribble them in a notebook and sometimes I use the computer, but it's always a creative mess! Recently I've been using Notion, a free editor which has a great desktop app. A writer friend turned me on to it and now I use it for writing as well as other life stuff too! It's easy to drag and reorganize ideas, so it really helps take a brainstorm mess to a working outline. Once an idea starts taking form I organize my ideas into related pieces and some end up getting thrown out. I craft "scenes" out of this and soon it becomes clear what pieces I'm missing. I fill in those pieces, throw out or rework stuff that doesn't work together, and pretty soon I have an outline.
I absolutely love getting prompts! I haven't gotten one through Bellarke Writers for Black Lives Matter (yet!), but I've written in a few rounds of Chopped. Most recently wrote for Chopped 3.0 Round 2 and won 1st place for best overall with my Memori fic The Cockroach. The biggest difference that comes when writing from a prompt like that is I need to make sure the fic not only fits the prompt but breathes life into it!

Remember how I mentioned I beta read? Yeah. Right now my friend Kara, aka @queenemori, is writing a slowburn Memori actors au called We Don't Need To Say It. It's out of this world amazing and I am so hype to be a part of the process. The first chapters are up on ao3 and I cannot recommend it enough. ed’s note: this fic just updated!
For writers who are looking for a push, I highly recommend participating in Chopped. Fandom events are fun, the prompts make you get creative, and writing deadlines inspire you to actually get them finished and out there!
I know some of you need to hear this: drink some water! It's good for you and it's yummy yummy in your tummy!
