This is completely true, and a great example of how MTG is actually the more unhinged game. You can do shit in MTG that would have a judge throw something at you. YGO's problem solving text creates a more opaque initial perception of the game, but MTG has fucking layers. I don't just mean like... levels of bullshit, I also mean literally a ruling-based sytem called "the layer system" specifically made to handle the absolutely erratic clusterfuck of possible interactions between continuous effects. This is a game where looping to infinity isn't only possible; it's considered mundane. A lot of people who've never played both games will look at YGO card text and think "Oh that's going to result in a far more complex game at higher level play." No, sweet summer children. No. YGO got nothin' on MTG.

I love how when Barry sees a substance he doesn't know he's all like, "oh, hey let me lick this to find out" and its not that big of a deal to him. Why is it not a big deal? I'll tell you why. Its because anything potentially dangerous like poison or some other toxic substance wouldn't be able to last anymore than a second against a speedster immune sytem (unless it was an extremly high amount or specifically made for a speedster). So when Barry sees an unknown substance hes just like, "why should I wait for a test to find out what this is when I could just taste it right here and find out".
Tumblr media
Now, when Dick does this, it's a whole other story. Why? Because, HE'S HUMAN. He's not some enhanced person, or metahuman, or alien, or a speedster with 10x the strength of a regular human immune system. He's just a guy. And I find it hilarious he looks at this unkown substance and thinks, "Why tf not?" and just licks it. Now, I'm like 96% sure he only went so far as to lick it because he saw how grossed out Wally was and wanted to be a little shit and mess with him, but still.
And then he finds out it's clay, and he's all like, "Oh, that’s what it is." Acting like he didn't just almost kill himself.
I MEAN HES LITERALLY SMILING, 𝘞𝘛𝘍.
THE ONLY APORPRIATE REACTION WAS WALLY'S.
Which, speaking of Wally, I love how hes all grossed out with Dick's actions, but if it was Barry he'd have no problem with it. Like, I can imagine him seeing Barry do this and be absolutley fascinated by the fact his uncle, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘩, licked some unkown substance to figure out what it was. Why? Because, lets face it, hes a fan boy at heart.
Now, if you asked him to do it, I know for a fact he would look at you like you just grew a second head.

Naruto failure of hokage in every front like his ancestors
Tumblr media
Many things needed fair conclusions which were overlooked so what naruto did what kind of reform he enforced regarding clan laws and treatments because of uchiha tragedy, regarding reformation of child soldiers and anbu matters becuase of rin and itachi, regarding reforming continental laws and regulation if invasion of small coutries and villages happening and their rebuilding and reparation because of wrongdoings 5 NATIONS AND KAGE have caused in the past,
also how he gonna bind all shinobi villages and even countries in the mutual trust and common ground so that nothing unlawful conclusion happen like that of shikimaru shinden and who gonna maintain or correct it in future that's why you need solid effective laws that equally and equitably benefit and treat and question everyone( author only just blink of some years bring phone, computer and video games but still maintains feudal sytem does not have international laws we have under UN so that no one can easily go to war even israelis are condemned against by UN but in naruto we don't have any such organization, laws, platform for time to time problem which can connect all shinobi countries and villages on the continent, even villages can not oppose their daimyo's order meaning they have no alternative source of income so naruto did not find another way for complete econmical survival without shinobi missions on 80 percent level such as using chakra and exporting chakra tech not for warfare especially and chakra natures lol feels like he still wants to maintain system in 60 percent ground: pure bad writing to continue boruto),
also what about orphanage system for other villages especially orphan from small villages or destructive land or from remote area like that of ryogi and kabuto and kara children and ame child how did not naruto send no shadow clone or shinobi for such purpose as he always preach about how he understand everyone's pain so called messiah or any welfare like system for poor shinobi from impoverished village shinobi or even his own village especially their widows and orphans did not shown or pension like something for shinobi especially who lost their body parts such as guy or some especial payment for shinobi like kawaki's father and give him alternative employment becuase of being war hero could have saved kawaki feels like villages abandoned many remaining shinobi or why not give them alternative employment because of their past service (just simply dispose of them if they lost value so cruel, just how pain said), by checking all the shinobi they could have but becuase they don't have correct and effective database like system even without tech that's how inaffective their shinobi system is because it's only focus on deciphering stupid message that would do no good for average shinobi and their family, collect tax from people building hiring, build some stupid building, maintain shinobi academy and its doctrination and missions and ranks and secret non transparent scheme meaning they don't have any citizen or shinobi benefit only jonin and upper echelon have that luxury even nothing special fund for orphan that's why ryogi doest not send to kabuto nothing specific, only all connected to glrifying and worshipping their anscestor that's why they don't have effective database maintained because of that after the war they lost track many shinobi and who knows how their family survived not shown not even regarding the other villages saddening, also about their individual desire or dream for that can they stop being shinobi suddenly or leave the village, did not shown regarding such issues especially how they panicked when mitsuki left and send their kids to die really sad.
it seems they even don't have unique trade that could connect all in a way that not one can lie or go to war meaning kakashi did not create any trade system only how they can rebuild and maintain ninja system which was in threat because lack of manpower(losing most of the shinobi in the war) meaning focused mostly making buildings, transportation, long distant upgraded message device and sharing shinobi missions with other villages, so kakashi did not change any political, children curriculam, ideological and law related issues in the village, naruto not even focused on changing of dangerous social struture in kiri village and lack of resources problem in iwa country and village, even we did not see how sand village's lack of resouce problem and how they solved it under gaara, really half baked, so many things overlooked,
so even did not even focus on what law or regulation he would establish to maintain clan's inner environment and conflicts becuase hyuga slavery( ther are maybe no large clans left in konoha anymore because in boruto we never see any clan meeting like that of hyuga or many clan fighting together like sarutobi and akimichi only showed some yamanaka power but not said whether they are members of yamanaka or not that's likely most died in the war, ony maybe at bare minimum members around 20 to 30 and they maintain no more clan positive harmonious tradition like clan meeting and practice just stop the heritage as we are not shown, meaning some cultural genocide, naruto as hokage could have celebrated each clan's power as culture festival making it show in public like we see chinese, european cultures etc. in many carnival and festival, in this way he could have connected and create harmony and pleasure for these lost heritage clans because naruto was suppose to be a hope that connect people it seems he has forgotten his own theme in boruto cooperation through understanding and sharing pain lol he is not doing that kind of effort to maintain harmony, peace and love among village, clan and outsider instead he is busy in collecting more power and benefit from amado and eida and katasuke and even from kawaki, that's strategic why both kawaki and boruto remained in konoha and not in other village, so much for mutual trust lol.
This is why naruto as a hokage and MC is complete bulshite and loser especially kishimoto's false half baked writing surrounding lack of insight of political atmosphere felt so underserving and hypocritical because i felt so much ideological and behavioral difference between zabusa arc naruto and ending &boruto naruto, really dissapointing.

Education in a Solarpunk World
Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel. ~ Socrates
I'm very passionate about knowledge. I'm extremely curious and love to share everything and anything. As you might notice when scrolling though this blog, I love to deepdive into topics and pile and sort the informaton I find, both for me but also for others.
I'm also living in a western european country and my school system is terrible. So bad in fact, I gave up my wish to become an schoolteacher and followed another passion. There are other well articulated and better researched sources that go into the why our school sytem is this way. I'll only talk about my vison to make it better.
The whole plan is creating an individualized curriculum for each student with a focus on creating citizens who are mentally-balanced, socially well-adjusted and know how to think, so the teaching would differ for each student.
My Solapunk version of education, has three pillars.
The first is free education. Free acess to the Institutions, but also the knowledge through libraries, free acess to the Internet, free acess to academic studies. Free acess reagardless of age. there is a minimum time you have to spend in education, but lifelong couriosity, learning and exchange is encouraged, even after you started doing your chosen daily labour in the community.
The second pillar is the fact that the concept of general knowledge is a construct by the society and state you live in. So let's completely revamp this. I strongly believe that general knowlede should be considered everything that helps you taking care of yourself when you don't have acces to the help of others. Examples out of my head are cooking, basic maintenance of your home/prosessions/garden, first aid, but also how to get and revaluate knowlede you need and don't have. That, and a basic understanding of numbers, reading and reading comprehension to evaluate what you are reading and be able to apply it to your life. To properly form arguments and comunicate in a non-vilolent way. Thats the basic curriculum, the shell so to speak. It doesnt matter how you learn it, via games, from your parents or classes you take. You can't leave education untill you have proven to function in those in your way.
Ok, so the kids earn those skills in peer groups of around five or six people for as long as they need in their own pace, but what about, you know, everything else? They get let loose. There might be some age restriction on topics, but what I envison is pure interest and passion driven learning. There's no classes or grades, just develloping skills and knowledge. Every day there are three or four discussion pannels or lectures to a weirdly specific topic, like the manuscrips of Timbuktu, the life and times of Ghandi or how to best craft a basket out of different plant fibres. And anyone who wants can submitt a topic, and if it interests you, you go, otherwise you stay and work on your linewight in your drawing or solve math problems. Depending on your learning style, there 're videos, audiobooks, texts and writings in differnt lengths in differnt formating from bullet points to tomes. There are workshops, and studygroups, games and media that cover every topic you possibly want to learn about. It doen't matter when you do it, it matters that you do it. If you are a night owl, you come at 9pm, if you only can focus for 30 min before having to switch the topic, you can, if you leave with 15 because you are sick of learning you can come back with 21 when you regrett dropping out. Time doesn't matter.
There is a third pillar which is the treatment of children as actual people. Up until I was 18 years and suddently an adult my no was never respected, unless I gave an essay on why I didn't want to. Simply because I was a child and my parents knew better- every adult knew better. Which I see everywhere, and people are wondering why consens is such a dificult concept to establish as we have to learn that No is adequate. No justifications, just a No. So the learning Institute has scientists and social workers present, who are accessible as someone the students might go to for advice when needed with whatever neeed might come up: assist in finding resoures or give input and correction on fake news, or they may act as mediators in case-you know- kids being kids. Overall however, there is the understanding that children have a certain autonomity they can adjust themselves to give up or keep. Children are people and are treated as such.
The students keep a portfolio of their skills, both as a resource of knowlege and memento. Plus, after spending a specific minimum time depeding on how easy you learn the "general skills" you would be allowed to submitt this portfolio to a council of scientist chosen by you who will certify you for your chosen field of studies. You don't need to, but from my own experience having a ceritficate of your skills is damn sattisfying. And you can do it immediatly when you are free to or wait five more years because you don't feel ready. Again, the choice is yours.
Remember, you can stay as long as you want and even after shifting your focus away to the application of your skills in the community, you are free to participate in the discussions and give lectures. Everyone is allowed to give them, after all. Scientists are conducting their reserach at specific research centres that are connected to the education centres and the students are allowed there after a certain age or reaching a level of knowlege deermined by the scentists working on the project.
There are questions up for debate of course, especially how we want to teach history, tackle the things we did to each other and the planet. My country is prized for how selfreflected we are but our political climate sugests otherwise so, it's still open.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A small Linkspam on topic:
@safety-net-did muses about what should be considered general knowledge which inspired this post as well as @queerspacepunks contribution.
one of the many tumblr discussions on how children are a repressed class
another one on the same topic
a post of @missmentell on resources to learn basic life skills of adults
this reddit discussion on how to remember history.

I'm no longer a Linux Mint user, I moved upstream to Debian, the distro Mint is based on. Now Debian was part of Linux's forbidding reputation of being difficult to install and use for non-tech-savvy users. Now this wasn't entirely unearned, as this video of trying to install a 1999 boxed edition of Debian demonstrates. Part of this was Debian's commitment to free software, so they didn't include proprietary drivers for hardware in the install, so you had to figure out how to get your wi-fi card to work on your own if you installed Debian on your laptop for example. They are actually one of the distros that call it "GNU/Linux"
The point of both Ubuntu and Mint back in the 00s was to take what Debian did well, but make it more user-friendly. And it worked, Ubuntu nowadays has declined with the Snap pacakage format, but it did do a lot for making desktop Linux user-friendly and more viable (Mint today is essentially what Ubuntu was pre-snap). Debian remains one of the biggest server OS out there, but on desktop Ubuntu by all accounts became way more popular.
However Debian has learned over the years and the latest release from June 2023, Debian 12 "Bookworm" is a massive improvement in user-friendliness. The install process is easy. There is both a slightly more complicated "net-installer" with all ISOs, and a simplified Calameres installer included with live systems that can be run off usbs to test things out. And even the net-installer is quite a simple process that is good at explaining what it does, and having sane defaults it encourages you to pick if you are unsure. This video about Debian 12 is a good counterpoint to the Debian 2.1 video linked above.
It did involve being more pragmatic about their approach to free software and including non-free firmware, so things like wi-fi now work without any problems for the end-user. Now I'm against proprietary software and hardware manufactures should have open source drivers for their shit, but I can't argue with how my laptop's wi-fi and bluetooth worked entirely without hassle.
Now Debian still requires more of the user than Mint does, like you have to figure out how to enable flatpak support and I did have to go into the terminal to install all the packages I wanted. That was a leesser part of the experience with Mint, I only had to do that to install 32bit libraries for my retro games and speciailized things like that.
(And you do want flatpak, the one thing you need to know it's a form of software package that works on basically all Linux distros, so a lot of developers package their programs as flatpaks instead of creating multiple versions for for all the various Linux file systems. So you get a lot of variety in software, and there are other positives as well)
I was happy for having a few months of training in how Linux works from Mint, it taught me how packages work. why flatpaks are useful (they are included by default in Mint and its package manager), how to use the terminal and other useful stuff. So if you are completely new to Linux, Mint is still the distro I recommend. I recently installed Mint on the computer of a 70-year old friend of mine, not Debian for a reason.
Still, It's nice to be at the distro that is the source rather than two steps downstream. Having to set up my Debian, instead of all the things the Ubuntu and Mint devs have added on top (even if what the Mint team adds does make for a smoother out-of-the-box experience). Again I'm not that technically proficient, but I find some enjoyment in tinkering. So setting up things like flatpak in Debian was a fun little challenge for me to do, made quite safe and easy by all the guides there are for such things.
I'm probably going to stick with Debian stable. I like long-term support distro way of doing updates, where you get important security updates, but other updates are released only after being tested for bugs. This ensures sytem stability. The other way is rolling release, where updates are constant. Package updates are released as soon as they are available, which might lead to bugs and other forms of system instability.
LTS does mean you won't get flashy new features for awhile, but I'm usually quite happy with the way I currently use my programs, my current workflow. Despite being a transgendered ultra-leftist, I'm creature of routine and habit (it's the autism), so LTS distros fit me quite well. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. So i'm probably not going to use arch btw, not because I'm afraid of not figuring it out, it might even be a fun challenge, but because I don't care about rolling release cycles.
And Debian is the best of LTS distros, the one most off them are based on. Also Debian is for lesbians.

Why do we not persecute war criminals?
Tumblr media
Yes, I keep up my one theme for the week. And let me talk about the kinda crime, that usually does not get charged or persecuted. War crimes and also police brutality. Because more than anything this shows that our justice system is not about justice or anything - it is about protecting those in power.
We know the entire Snowden thing, WikiLeaks and what not we do know about all the crimes happening with the military. And we also know that the justice systems are way more interested in persecuting the people who revealed those war crimes - than in persecuting the actual criminals.
And here is the thing. I talked about how the entire justice system does not really work, how police is bad and prisons are bad and how we should make better system. But the core of the problem is simple:
The justice system as it is right now does not exist to bring actual justice. It exists to maintain systems of power.
White collar crime gets charged much less than petty crime, because it usually is those in power being criminal. The system exists to serve them, so they are not charged.
Violence against marginalized groups gets not charged, because it also is something from those in power against those without power. The system exists to keep those power structures going. So they are not charged.
Same with police violence. The police has power. They use this power to protect those with even more power. So them using this power against those to be kept suppressed is fine. They protect the power system. They do what they are supposed to do. So they actually act within the sytem.
And with war crimes. They protect the power of the powerful countries they serve. As such when they fight for the more powerful country, they will not get charged, because they worked within the system and for the system.
The current justice system is in fact an injustice system.
So, I think it is about time to just burn it all down.

As a continuation of my previous Ask, the life of Canon Sunny and Omari AU Mari are really sad if you think about it, not only were they suffering mentally because of the Trauma of the incident but also physically because of the stress cause by their trauma and mental problems
made worse with the fact that they probably never went to see a therapist or a doctor during those 4 years they shut away as stress can actually damage various system of the body if left untreated (Nervous Sytem, Musculoskeletal System, Cardiovascular System, ect)
Oh definitely. But it's hard to think about who would be in the worse conditon because they're both just plain frail phycially, but for different reasons.
Sunny is phycially frail because the accident happened when he was 12 so the stress and trauma took a toll on his body and stunted his body growth by not being in a healthy enviorment to properly advocate for puberty. Hence why when he's 16, he's only JUST as tall as Mari was at 15- even though he should be taller since boys tend to have more frequent or more drastic growth spurts.
While Mari is physically frail as well but this being further progressed due to her fractured knee. Due to her sleeping for most hours of the day, she's barely getting any exercise to help keep her bad leg in a good condition at best. So because of that, I can actually see Omari Mari having either her leg brace and a cane OR due to her numb and tuned out state, she more than likely just limps around the house. not really bothering to take care of her leg due to her thinking she more than likely deserves it.
And in terms of outside infulences, we can't say for sure who's worse off here because people can write OMARI's story however they want. In Canon, the Dad disowns his son and divorces his wife, that ending with him leaving. But with OMARI, it can either be the Mom leaving or Both parents stay for their daughter's sake (since it's pretty well implied that Mari was their favourite out of their kids)
But yeah... Canon Sunny and OMARI Mari are just heartbreaking and need to comfort each other. Despite them being alternate versions of their dead sibling, they're still brother and sister and this is the closest sibling relationship I've ever seen in media.

I have A Theory:
Okay, so Lloyd being part dragon should, theorhetically, come up at some point in a show called Dragons Rising. And, after part 2, we know that Imperium is going to try and caputre and drain another Source Dragon. The problem before seems to be that the power is too much for their sytem to process. This, combined with the fact that Lloyd is called a conduit multiple times, seems like it has to be connected right?
And another thing, Lloyd was said to be the only thing that could process all the power from the three dragon energy cores. So that means his body can handle a Fuck Ton of energy. Probably because energy is his elemenet or, close enough to it. But, Zane and others have mentioned the toll it'll take on Lloyd and how they don't know what it could do to him long term.
So, my theory is that Imperium will get wind of Lloyd's abilities to be a condiut and they'll capture him. Then they'll use him to process source dragon energy despite what damage that much power will do to him. Idk if the show would have him captured for a long time but I can certainly think about a part of a future season where the new ninja (arin, sora, and wyldfyre) have to find and save lloyd before it's too late. Especially because of all the vauge speaking about what thsi power will do to him. I have to believe that too much can and will kill him.
TLDR: What if Imperium uses Lloyd to harness Source Dragon power???

Maybe this is a totally bollocks idea driven by my frustrations with the healthcare (or lack of) currently available to me, but here's a concept: total bodily autonomy in medicine. Not just that they can't do medical treatments without your informed consent, but that if you give properly, truly informed consent, they can't stop you from having the medical treatments.
I have a laundry list of bits and bobs that I think would markedly improve my life, but have no hope of getting past the medical gatekeeping to access. I know it's more complex in the UK where we have horrifically underfunded the NHS for a couple of decades now and we're struggling to keep up with even utterly vital treatments, so setting the bar for entry high is a sort of sytemic self-defence mechanism, but if we look it on a principle basis, rather than what is currently practical, then I reckon it's a good idea.
I mean, sure, I could access a treatment that ended up not being right for me, and even caused a lot of problems -- I know that side effects are real, and some medical treatments aren't reversible -- but that's where the informed consent bit comes in. Assuming I'd been given proper information, and the time to understand it, and was in the position to make a free choice, then it's my responsibility to accept the consequences of that choice.
Surely it's better than people going untreated, or turning to pseudoscience - because you'll never meet a snake oil salesman who refuses to 'treat' you?

I feel like sometimes all the dots aren't connected. Since the 70s'ish, employers have been doing everything they can to destroy compensation, especially things like pensions. It's all profit all the time. This is the Greed is Good era. Basic human needs begin to be rebranded as investments. Housing is the most obvious, but we're already several years into water becoming a wall street staple. So your income goes down, you're now responsible for saving up for your retirement (almost always as a fund that is invested into the stock market, which means it's always at risk from being eaten by the big traders) staple prices go up. You've heard no doubt that real compensation hasn't increased since the seventies. So you have less money to start with, but your expenses skyrocket every year, far outpacing inflation. Healthcare was allowed to become for profit in 69? I think? it was Nixon, though. So it's all rigged against you, and it gets worse every year. We are the first handful of generations where conditions are worse than they were for our parents, and we've arrived at a point where the only way to generate wealth is by inheritance. But because our parents are living longer, they're spending more on retirement than previous generations, which means they're passing down less as well. At the same time, they support anything that increases their property values, because it's the only investment most of them have. Which means you have to spend even MORE on housing, because your parents are sabotaging the market against you. When you take this all together, how much longer do you think it can continue like this? We are rapidly approaching Bell Riot solutions, designated areas for "poors" to live, ostensibly so that it simplifies the supply chain for 'support' but realistically, so that they can be oppressed in one place and exploited for basically slave labor. Open Air Prisons, would be an easier description. Oregon is already exploring these ideas. And if it succeeds even in just concentrating the poor into generalized areas, it'll be copied elsewhere. Capitalism is the root problem here, but capitalism is untouchable, because it's a system of control as much as an economic system. My best guess will be the increasing weaponization of Law Enforcement against anyone who complains or struggles under the sytem as implemented. I've been rambling for like forever, but I feel like it's important to connect these dots, because a lot of the time, the only solutions offered are bandaids for the symptoms and not a cure for the disease. But nothing will change until power is decoupled from wealth. Democracy is a fix for this, but capitalism is soooo good at undermining democracy.

ALL COPS ARE IMPLICIT IN A CORRUPT SYSTEM
Okay, the sytem is bad. But the more cops with good intentions there are, the less likely it is for things to get worse.
So we should be focusing on the SYSTEM rather than the innocent people trying to do good in the world.
Obviously that isn't all cops. There are bad ones. But some of them are genuinely just trying to help.
The acab mentality is going to lead to less good people in the profession, worstening the problem.
Y'know?

Ahead of what I'm hoping to be a good weekend of progress on the project comes a significant development on one of the main balancing points of the game - power! I spent a good few evenings working on this, so I'm happy to unveil my progress on this finally.
All things powerful
There's a few things going on here that are worth talking a little about.
The game now features a fully-implemented power management sytem. All placed structures, with the exception of belts, now need power to run. To simplify things, there's no differentiation between machines that are on/off, running or otherwise not engaged. If a machine is present, it draws a set amount of power.
Run out of power, and everything shuts down until you fix it!
Tumblr media
Icons appear over the top of machines that draw power when they have insufficient supply. It should be pretty clear when something's gone wrong!
The balancing act is fairly straightforward. Generate more power than you use - which is supported through a helpful new popup that details lots of information about what's going on in your factory.
Tumblr media
You can get an overview of your factory's power usage in the power information popup.
It shows all of the machine types you've placed, how much power they're cumulatively drawing, and the same for machines that generate power. Currently, there's only a single type - the Small Generator - but you can probably expect others to follow suit for later in the game.
Tumblr media
A small generator, doing exactly what it says on the tin.
So what's the deal with adding power to the game? Power serves two purposes for game-play. One is to add an additional level of management to the process of laying out a factory - you can't just plop machines down with careless abandon anymore. And the other is that it allows me to gate-off some of the more advanced parts of the game behind either some extremely power-hungry machines, or those that require some form of exotic power generation. I personally prefer the latter, but we'll see how it pans out.
As for other developments, you may notice I've changed the look of the selection mode. I decided to get rid of my slightly off-center selection rectangles and do proper 'grown up' game development outlines instead. I said 'development', but in reality it was just using a free asset to achieve the desired effect. I'm not great with shaders in all honesty, so it was better to lean on this as an already-solved problem and focus my efforts elsewhere.
With the power side of things all settled now I can concentrate on my plan for the weekend. I'm going to put a list later on of the things I want to accomplish, hopefully encouraging me to make the requisite progress!
Anyway, that's all for now, hopefully I'll catch you a bit later on in the next one where I can talk about what's next for the game 😁

Battery Backup Nerang - What You Need to Know
Backup batteries come in many sizes based on their peak power capacity. This metric indicates how quickly a battery can discharge to power energy-intensive equipment like your sump pump or HVAC system.
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
UPS sytems keep power levels consistent to protect electrical equipment from short-term spikes, surges and outages. They’re essential for data centers and industrial / manufacturing processes, where even the shortest interruptions can be costly or dangerous.
The same technology that makes your cell phone work in a power outage can provide critical Battery Backup to businesses and homes. Energy storage also creates valuable efficiencies and capabilities for the grid that lower costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
You can choose a standby UPS based on its runtime, which is typically listed using either volt-amperes (VA) or watts. The best runtime for your business will depend on how much equipment you need to power, and the type of protection required. You may also want to consider models that use a hybrid rotary UPS design. This style uses the inertia of a high-mass flywheel to provide short-term ride-through and offers excellent efficiency ratings.
Surge Protection
Surge protectors are designed to protect your devices from short-term high voltage variations above 110% of nominal. These events can last nanoseconds to microseconds but put a tremendous amount of stress on your electrical devices. A surge protector works by directing the excess voltage to ground, often via MOVs. These are made from a material that is normally a poor conductor, but when the voltage reaches certain levels it ionizes the MOV, which then redirects the excess energy to the ground.
Power surges can destroy internal circuitry, causing them to heat up until they burn out (much like a hose that’s overfilled with water will burst). Surge protection helps prevent this from happening by absorbing and redirecting excess voltage. This surplus energy is then dissipated on the ground, usually through an internal gas discharge arrestor or an avalanche diode.
Surge protection is typically rated in units called joules, with higher ratings indicating the ability to handle a larger surge or multiple smaller ones before your equipment is damaged. However, these devices can wear out over time, so it’s a good idea to replace them periodically.
Energy Storage
A standby UPS allows equipment to operate on utility power until it detects a problem, then switches to solar battery Nerang. This safeguards against power sags, spikes and outages for as long as the batteries last, and helps ensure that critical digital and mechanical equipment can be shut down safely.
Energy storage systems can respond to sudden changes in electricity demand in minutes, rather than the hours required by conventional thermal plants. They can also help stabilize the grid by providing electricity frequency and voltage regulation.
For example, a business with solar + storage can eliminate demand charges and drop its utility bill to near zero. Energy storage also helps ensure the sun is shining or wind is blowing when it's needed, by "firming up" renewable resources. OE's Energy Storage Grand Challenge accelerates bi-directional energy storage technologies as a key component of the future-ready grid. This includes supporting applied materials research to identify safe, low-cost, earth-abundant elements for long-duration storage.
