After seeing all of the not so cool stuff happening in the Japanese side of the MILGRAM audience, I wanted to share some positivity about the international MILGRAM community.
I'm French, so I specifically wanted to highlight the honestly fantastic work put up by the MILGRAM FR YouTube channel. They are releasing french covers of all of the prisoners songs, with the help of various French utaite (some of which are pretty big names in the french community. Like I wouldn't expect non-French people to know who Sumashu is but goddam. I was quite impressed to see him as mikoto).
I find the dedication of this MILGRAM FR group truly amazing. Although they're not trying to translate the entirety of MILGRAM material that exist, they make high quality covers with beautifully translated lyrics. (My favourites are the Bring it On lyrics but sadly, Futa's songs have been removed from the channel for now, as the team has parted ways with his former cover artist. The covers should be back soon with a new singer tho!) It makes me proud of being french (which is not something I'm usually proud of ngl 💀) to see this part of the community making MILGRAM accessible to a french audience.
Of course I'm writing this post in English so it's likely that whoever reading this doesn't speak French, but that's the point! Getting people who wouldn't usually come across this channel to check it out!
There's so many people contributing to making MILGRAM more accessible to non-japanese speaking audience, and I'm forever grateful to them. Of course there's everyone translating the VD (especially @/onigiriico, thank you so so much for your translations), the unofficial MILGRAM Eng twitter account, the MILGRAM fancult (although they've deleted their twitter account, they've done a lot of translating timelines from the app and such), and all of the contributors on the MILGRAM wiki.
And that's only the sources I have personally come across while getting into MILGRAM. There's probably a lot more I didn't mention. Without them, I wouldn't have been able to enjoy MILGRAM as much as I currently do, so I'm thankful to all of them. Really.
And that's not even mentioning the various users on social media who share their theories, thoughts, headcanons, fanarts, fanfictions, memes and more about MILGRAM.
I was feeling a bit down about the MILGRAM community today, so I just wanted to make a post where I'm happy about it instead, where I can remember why I love it. Not to sound too sappy but fandoms as extension of works of fiction are truly amazing. Telling stories is amazing. Talking about them is amazing. And as someone who struggles to openly talk about my personal interests offline (and even online honestly), just seeing that other people are just as invested as I am in a story, if it's not more, truly makes my day.

I'm not really a fan of Alys' voice (I prefer the version sung by several youtaites) but really LOVE these lyrics! Sumashu really did a great job on this song. And the idea of drawing his OC with the theme of this song came to me.
I drew this on paper a month again and I finally decided to make a digital version of it!

Headcanon. Fight me.
Picked this song because I thought a lot of the lyrics fit well with Yang’s attitude and fighting style.
So we know Yang’s semblance make her stronger when she takes damage, and Taiyang equates Yang’s semblance to “basically a temper tantrum”. But I think there’s more to it than that.
I know her temper doesn’t always relate to protecting her family, but I think that might be where it stems from. Both her mothers, and even her father for a short time, were absent from her life, leaving her alone to care for her sister Ruby. She had to learn how to be strong enough to do so in multiple ways, and that attitude carried over to other friends closest to her.
If semblance is a manifestation of someone's personality, then I say Yang is someone who feels the need to put herself at the front lines, to risk her life before anyone else's, that strength is everything when it comes to protecting her those close to her. If someone so much as thinks about harming her loved ones, she has to make them pay without forgiveness.

pretty sure the way american youtubers say the names and shit is like an accent/language thing but go off i guess lol.
hmmm. not rly since the yters i was talking abt are a mix of american and british. (gigguk is british, mothers basement is american, and super eyepatch wolf (the one i was thinking of) is also british/irish or something). i was commenting on like. the pronunciation issue
also there’s a difference between accent and pronunciation issues. basically when saying japanese words and names you should say it with mind to the japanese language - which is primarily based on five vowel sounds of a (ah) e (eh) i (ih) o (as in top) u (oo).
english is based on interchange and relationships of letters - which is how you end up with a lot of english speakers saying, for example with todoroki, toe-door-row-kee instead of toh-doh-roh-ki, because in our language the way the vowels and consonants are placed means that we see a change in how we pronounce the vowels. but the names are japanese and you should treat them as such. like japanese speakers try pretty damn hard with latin-/hebrew-based names, i think we deserve to at least give them the same amount of effort.
if we’re just talking bnha, even “all might”, “smash”, and the american state names all might and deku use arent natural words to japanese speakers, which is why you end up with “allo mighto” and “sumashu”. its the best they can do. our equivalent would be saying, perhaps, “toh-doh-row-kee” instead of “tow-dor-row-kee”, because that’s less….westernising.
its kinda like if someone tried to speak english without understanding that letters combine to make different sounds - e.g. “ng”, “th”, “ch”. by saying the letters separately it means you dont have an issue with accent, you have an issue with pronunciation
i dont speak japanese, only know the basics, but i have been speaking some bulgarian and english at the same time in my household since childhood. there’s a switch between how i say things in english and how i say things in bulgarian since there are sounds and linguistic styles that differ between the two and if i dont account for them im not really speaking right. it goes past an accent and into incomprehensible which is why you have to take it into consideration lol
