"Yeah, I know, if you breathe on the other side of the road they'll know about it. I usually go for men for the same reason, they think they're safe. In most places anyway, ever tried hunting in the East End in the '60s? Even the men were super jumpy because they were always shanking each other."
"Dude, weren't you Embraced in 1974?"
"Yeah, but my sire told me stories. I was one of those jumpy humans. You could barely set foot outside your door after dark without getting mugged. I wore a turban back then though, so I didn't get bothered much, only by the idiots who didn't know what a kirpan was."
"Anyway. So she sees me approaching, right, and she's on her guard and I'm like, don't worry dude, I'm just a hungry vampire."
"Sullivan. The fuck?"
"It's this thing Evie started doing to fuck with the kine, just to see what they say. She only ever does it around me so I can sigh loudly and Dominate them into forgetting about it afterwards but uh, I also started doing it sometimes just for the lols."
"For the what?"
"Evie says that too, it means for one's own amusement. Can't you actually use a smartphone? How do you not know what that means? You've never been on social media?"
"Weren't you lecturing me about 'spiritual self harm' last week?"
"Shut the fuck up. So anyway, she plays along. A lot of them do. Asks to see my fangs. I show her. Asks me what fucking clan I am."
"Seriously?"
"Yeah, she's played fucking Bloodlines. Matthew Dawkins has a lot to answer for, no wonder he's on that fucking Red List."
"Isn't that the alter ego of -- "
"Yeah, that guy. No wonder nobody's been able to bump him off yet. You try telling a Methuselah he can't just fucking violate the Masquerade like that by making a literal fucking game out of it."
"He didn't make it, he just -- "
"No, no, he did, Matthew Dawkins is just his latest cover."
"Oh! Right, I forgot. Feels like it only came out and made the Camarilla shit themselves like... six months ago."
"Bram Stoker, eat your fucking heart out. Anyway the human's pretty excited about how good my 'Lasombra cosplay' is because I'm all in black and the shadows are spooky and shit so I'm like, thinking, right. I'm behind my monthly quota and you know what Amicia's like when I don't hit it."
"So is this, like, the monthly-monthly quota or the monthly quota where she sneakily tries to bump it up, you call her out on her shit, and she brings it back down and doesn't give a fuck you didn't actually hit it so long as you hit the normal one?"
"Oh, it's the former."
"Oh, so you must be in a lot of trouble, then."
"Yeah, so like, I'm still hungry but I've got this human eating out of the palm of my hand and I still need some blood bags. She's not as jumpy now that she knows I'm a cosplaying weirdo instead of a sexual predator weirdo, but I still gotta lure her into the van."
"Yeah, I noticed the graffiti -- "
"Yeah, that wasn't Evie this time, I woke up and it was there. So anyway I decide fuck it, may as well go the whole nine yards, so I'm like 'hey can I steal your blood.'"
"How'd she take that?"
"She corrected me and said it's not stealing if I have her consent. So I'm like, okay, so do I have your consent to steal your blood? And she's like. No. that's not -- actually never mind, how are you going to take it? And I'm like well I have this whole set up in this van here. And she's like the one with 'free candy' written on the side? and I'm like. yeah. the one with 'free candy' written on the side. the kids these days think they're so funny."
"How many times has Evie -- "
"Eighteen, but nine of them were actually hallucinations because she was too lazy to get some more spraypaint so I don't think it counts. But like I said it wasn't Evie this time. So anyway, that graffiti ended up saving my ass here because I'm sure she'd have run screaming if it was a normal creepy van but because someone 'lampshaded the creepiness,' as she said, she hung around instead. I showed her my setup. She was like 'cool, sure, go ahead.'"
"She wasn't worried you'd chloroform her after?"
"Pretty sure she was going along with this for the lols. She seemed to think I was harmless. Or at least, she gave off the impression she did. To be honest it might've been a fawn response, but yeah, I had her in the van hooked up and giving blood. She tried to tell me off for not sanitising her arm but I just Dominated her into thinking I'd done it so no harm done. So yeah, got the blood, Dominated her into forgetting it and sent her on her way. Wish they were all as cooperative as that! I'd be way fucking less traumatised."
A snort. "Did you at least give her a cookie? The humans do that."
"She asked if I had any. I said no, I only have chewable iron tablets."
"You give the humans iron tablets when you're done?"
"No, but Jane has a stock for when I'm out in rural bumfuck nowhere and need to feed off her exclusively for a while. Anyway. Now there's a weirdass human who's got a bottle of chewable iron tablets in her bag and she has no idea how it got there. I think Evie would be proud."
"So you do give out free candy, huh?"
"Nah, she paid for it in blood."
"Yeah, that's... yeah that's true. Damn, and I thought I was being so witty."
"Har har har. Fucking smartarse Ravnos."

Fate of Cthulhu is a stand-alone game powered by the Fate Core system from Evil Hat Productions. It will be around 256 pages in length, featuring color art in 6"x9" hardcover and digital PDF formats and a whole lot of tentacles (so, so many tentacles).
The idea for Fate of Cthulhu started with a simple question: what if Cthulhu operated like Skynet? In this game you'll face down Mythos-style threats with Terminator-style action and adventure, whether as a present-day Sarah Connor type, or an agent from the future already facing the creeping effects of corruption. This is Lovecraftian roleplaying made new again, with time-traveling operatives from a future apocalypse journeying back to the present day to warn others of the coming danger (and recruit them) to try to set the timeline on a new and hopefully better course.
You'll discover whether they succeed, and whether or not their success will lead to salvation or some fresh new horror, throughout the course of play. The future changes with each move the heroes make, the Old Ones always pushing back with their own dire countermoves, both inflicting new ripples on the timeline. Sometimes the best you can hope for is a less awful apocalypse—but somewhere out beyond the dark roiling clouds and tentacle-lashed landscape of mankind's ruin, there is a glimmer of hope, thanks to your sacrifices.
And the sacrifices will be many. To fight the tentacular and squamous, operatives must become so themselves. Through time travel itself or exposure to Old One threats during their missions, characters will gain strange new abilities and bizarre new anatomies as they absorb more corruption into their own flesh and psyches. In time, they might twist so far they become lost, turning into new agents of the Old Ones themselves... with any luck, they'll have a good friend nearby to put them down when it happens.

A corruption clock that fills up as you sacrifice more of your humanity to power or gain monstrous abilities (supercharged stunts), slowly transforming your character's aspects into new, corrupted versions of themselves.

Fate is a system focused on story, where both success and failure help to create interesting moments for players and characters. Fate models fiction, not physics. In Fate it's as much about the choices your time-traveling agents face and the story consequences of those choices, for good or ill, as it is about those visceral, dangerous fights to save the human race. (You'll get plenty of both.)
Do you sacrifice more of your humanity to gain the abilities you need to fight the Great Old One's minions? Or do you hold on to what makes you human and avoid turning into the very monsters you fight? When you choose to stick with or go off of your mission, how does it affect the future's timeline? Fate helps generate drama by pushing play toward answering these questions.
That's right: you don't need to buy any other books to play Fate of Cthulhu, though you're welcome to grab other Fate products and cross-pollinate with this one.
Fate is a nimble rules-light system that uses 4 six-sided dice and a pool of tokens to advance the narrative. While you can use standard d6's or poker chips if that's your jam, we do offer our own Fate Dice™ and Fate Points™ which you can grab as part of the Equipment Cache and Well-Equipped Elder God Squad reward levels. "I mean, you have to remember that part of growing up means not being afraid of being childlike any more."
"Yeah, but... oh. Oh, right. Shit, I forgot."
"Yeah, she's been seventeen for like twenty years, she's long past that phase. If she was ever in it. She's never been into boys. Or girls. Or anyone else. I mean, she'll always have the brain of a seventeen-year-old, so she'll always be a bit impulsive, but her brain wasn't that far from maturity and experience has done the rest, pretty much."
"God, I feel old."

"Anyway," that voice goes on, "she terrified me when I first met you two. She'd act all carefree and hoppity skip and 'Sullivan is the best!' and you'd be standing there, glowering and terrifying with all the creepy shadows. I thought she was completely unhinged. Then you started warming up to me and thawing out a bit and I was like, oh, she's unhinged in a wholesome and adorable way, not a scary way. She was a lot less scary when the person she adored wasn't scary."
"That's not what unhinged means, unhinged can't be wholesome, but you're getting better at using 21st century slang so I don't want to be discouraging."
"I refuse to grow old. I will keep dabbing with the kids and I will stay yeet at heart, damn it!"
A dramatic tone: "It'll happen to you!" Then: "Christ, I'm cringing at that, that was terrible."
"I swear I did that on purpose."
"Bullshit."
"Shut up. Anyway, I miss her when you don't bring her around."
"I mean, I can always give her your number so you can keep in touch."
"Yeah, no, that's creepy."
"She likes knowing another Ravnos. She won't be creeped out, she's come to trust you over the years. Anyway, you did say your daughter was her age... I think she'd understand."
"It's fine. I'll chat to her next time I see her."
"That girl just fucking collects parental figures, it's hilarious."
"Who's she with now?"
"Beckett."

Moar on Zain:
So Zain's parents had two different religions -- his father was Muslim and his mother was Sikh. He was very close to both parents so was never comfortable "picking a side". In some circles he's known as Zain al-Shahir bin Zakariya, but in others he's known as Zain Singh. When he married he married a Sikh woman so he was more widely known as Singh, but still used al-Shahir bin Zakariya at times. He always felt like a bad Sikh because he couldn't really commit fully to it and felt torn between two worlds.
It got worse after his Embrace, he felt like just by existing he was an abomination, so he cuts his beard every night when he wakes up because he already exists as a vampire, so what's one more sin? (Sullivan refers to it as "spiritual self harm." He ignores him and does it anyway.)
But every now and then when his travels take him through a major city. When he's in a major city he tends to get back to his Sikh roots and keeps his beard and puts his turban back on.
He once ran into Sullivan in NYC like this. Sullivan didn't recognise him because of the beard so Zain basically switched to an Indian accent and fucked with him all night. "You do not recognise me?? your oldest friend?? how could you???" Sullivan was This Close to throwing him through a window with shadow tentacles.
"Who are you?"
"I am Mister Singh, you idiot! How can you not remember me???"
"I have no idea who you are!"
"After everything I did for you! I'm going to tell everyone that Sullivan Blackmoore is ungrateful! He betrays his friends! He pretends not to know them!"
"but what did you DO???"
"EVERYTHING, YOU BASTARD! after all I sacrificed for your little blood business you couldn't even put a good word in to Amicia for me! I went up to Seattle and she was like 'who the hell are you' and I was BETRAYED."
This happens several times before Zain ends up inviting him back to his temporary haven for whatever reason and just goes "hey do you want some blood or something?" in his normal voice and Sullivan almost yeets him out the fucking wnidow.

Honestly this post made me realise that Sullivan would intimidate the SHIT out of any love interests.
Because like. Around strangers he's intimidating enough - very laconic, barely emotes at all - but around someone he found attractive he'd be so much worse. He's former Sabbat, he Does Not Show Weakness, he'd grit his jaw, barely look at them, keep himself as tightly under control as possible...
... in other words, the love interest is going to, for all intents and purposes, take one look at his body language and think they annoy the shit out of him. and that he's barely restraining himself from ripping their throat out.
one night they're going to run into Evie on their own and she's going to be like "he really likes you" and they're going to be like "what."

okay so brainwashed!Sullivan. how does he react as his memories of his embrace and his previous life begin to return after Arundel's brainwashing starts to come undone? like, how badly does it fuck him up?
ooh, and what about his relationship with Lucca? Does he dote on her like he does with Kara and Amicia because 'SISTER!' or did Corliss really fuck up our boy?
OK but the funny thing is, he doesn't dote on Lucca not because Corliss really fucked up, but because she didn't fuck him up enough.
See, the reason why Sullivan doted on Kara and Amicia so much was that stress activates Dad Mode. It's why, in his Welcome Home fic, he made a beeline for his babies to cuddle them. If he's looking after someone else, he doesn't have to worry about looking after himself.
And yeah, Eden's a fucked sire to have, but she never made him create shovel parties and participate in mass murder in an up-close-and-personal war. She never took him to sadistic and traumatising Sabbat rites. She never taught him how to shoot or kill random innocents.
Sullivan had one hell of a time adjusting to the Sabbat, and when Kara appeared, he was like, oh shit, I have to help this poor thing through this hell. Same with Amicia. He was just dropped into it but he can try to soften the fall a bit for his sisters. He doesn't get that with Corliss, it's just normal bureaucracy, except the bureaucracy can kill you. And Arundel was pretty decent. And Lucca herself -- he doesn't meet her for decades, and by the time he does, she's plenty independent and doesn't need him at all, nor does he even consider that she might.
The most fun he has would be (in my headcanon) trying to convince himself he's not a Lasombra cuckoo, because in my head default!Corliss is a Ventrue and he's, well, obviously not that. A while after hearing about the Lasombra he's pretty sure he is one but he never broaches the topic with Corliss. Arundel, maybe, because he does trust Arundel, but not Corliss. So he knows something's up there but he's heard enough of the Sabbat to keep his mouth shut and not poke that particular hornet's nest.

Currently writing a Blacklight by Night fanfanfic and Wendy is currently trying to bribe the Vykosoviches into helping her get a hold of the money of Sullivan Blackmoore and Amicia de LaCroix, who are both price gouging the local Camarilla for obscene amounts of money in the middle of a blood shortage. Normally this bribery would work, but Sullivan is Nastasya's friend and Norm and Grigori would never go against the baby of the family.
Honestly the shit Sullivan is up to in this universe is totally crazy. At first when the virus hits New York he's like "fuck THAT I'm OUT" but as soon as he hears that no blood traders are touching the city he's like "actually, Amicia, want to help me price gouge the Camarilla so bad it'll set us up for life?"
and then he just goes nuts cooking the books, cheating the Archbishop of Philadelphia in order to get the blood dolls he needs, and has a plan for when the Lasombra get mad about him helping the Camarilla so he can pay them less money in bribes than he otherwise would.
He's never going to be able to set foot in NYC without looking over his shoulder again but he and Amicia are going to be set up for life after this, lmao.

Out of curiosity, what were Sullivan’s, Amicia’s, and Kara’s backstories? Specifically their time with the Sabbat. Were they any of the ones listed out in the Night Road game or were they original?
... Sorry anon, bad news, but the question you've asked has an answer which is actually a bit complicated.
(Okay it's not REALLY, but you got me talking and I talked far more than you probably actually WANTED. SORRY NOT SORRY)
So basically you gotta keep something in mind: Amicia and Kara were made by @nightingaletrash, and Sullivan is mine. They are all the childer of Millicent Rue, much like the canonical Lasombra courier from Night Road. They were all shovelheads, and after two years and her third surviving fledgling Millicent went "fuck it, I have three kids now, I'm never doing this again." After Millicent basically ditched the three of them, to survive, Kara went into working with artefacts, and Amicia and Sullivan became couriers. Kara would eventually be reunited with her biological daughter, who's a Ravnos named Evie (who you've probably seen me talk about -- Sullivan dotes on her), and at some point Amicia moved to Seattle, started a blood den, and became sexually and later romantically involved with Prince Cross.
That's where the simple bit ends.
In reality it's actually a bit complicated past that because of a few things.
Biggest thing: @nightingaletrash and I both have our own separate continuities. For the most part, 95% of what we talk about happens in both, but I essentially have a copy pasted version of Sullivan running around in her head, and she has one of her lot running around in mine.
The biggest differences in our separate universes are these:
In @nightingaletrash's continuity, Evie was the canon VTMB fledgling and Amicia was the canon VTMNR courier.
In Maddyverse (my continuity), Madeline (thus the name) was the canon VTMB fledgling, and my canon VTMNR courier was someone entirely separate called Elisa Mulgrew, my Gangrel, who is Lettow Kaminsky's childe.
So because of that there's minor differences in backstories. For example, I can't quite remember what Evie's backstory is in Maddyverse, where she's not the Fledgling (I have it somewhere!), but obviously she didn't have to deal with all the bullshit the Fledgling did so while she's still independent she's probably less anti-Sect than she is in @nightingaletrash's continuity. And in @nightingaletrash's continuity, Amicia was the canon VTMNR courier, so in her universe Amicia would've had more money sooner and therefore would've met Prince Cross and become influential over there a lot faster than she would have in Maddyverse.
We don't actually talk about the differences much, we just talk about what each universe has in common and if I've had to I just slightly adapt it in my head to fit Maddyverse, and I've always assumed she did the same thing for hers. I've never asked her her explicit thoughts on it but the way I see it, her version of Sullivan is just a duplicate copy that she can do whatever she wants to because my Sullivan is over here in my head, hers is an AU version of mine. She can do whatever she wants to her version of Sullivan because it doesn't have any effect on my (Maddy)version of Sullivan.
I don't do whatever I want with Kara or Amicia though because we've never actually explicitly discussed this and I don't want to be disrespectful of her ownership of her characters, as I know my interpretation is pretty laissez-faire compared to how most people feel about other people playing with their OCs. In any case, both universes have so much in common it's never had to come up, because they're all Millicent's childer, Amicia always ends up in Seattle, Sullivan always ends up working for Amicia -- the only thing that really changes between our heads is when it happens and what Amicia was up to and what Evie's backstory is.
(Am dying to know what Elisa'd probably be up to in her universe, though -- she'd have never diablerised Aila, and presumably wasn't able to come back to Tucson in 2019 because Lettow explicitly requested her as courier just so he could have his estranged childe close by to keep an eye on her. If Elisa was working in Tucson at the time, she'd have been given all the assignments, not Amicia, so there's no universe where Amicia is the VTMNR courier where Elisa could have been present. And given the Tucson court went tits up in @nightingaletrash's universe when Amicia betrayed them to the SI, either Lettow was destroyed before he could ever be reconciled with Elisa, or he went on the Beckoning before they were ever reunited. Which makes me really sad to think about because Elisa was struggling, and VTMNR was when the hardest part of her life as a vampire was finally put behind her. SO THAT GIVES ME THE SADS. Damn, now I've got a plotbunny biting...)
But if we look at their Doylian backstory it gets even more complicated lmao.
Because like. as a character. Sullivan actually started off as an AU version of another character.
(and feel free to tune out at this point because I realise this actually has nothing to do with your actual question of his IN-UNIVERSE backstory, AT ALL, lmao, sorry, it's more his out-of-universe backstory)
So. Maddyverse is Maddyverse because the fledgling is Madeline Jones, my first ever vampire OC. She had an identical twin sister called Meredith. Meredith went on to marry a Welsh trans man named Jonathan Grey and opened a pharmacy in Seattle. Here's a picture I made of him with Artbreeder before everyone realised how fucked up using AI was:
Meredith was walking home in December 2019 when she got involved in the mass Embrace. She is my canonical VTMB2 main character, although that may change by the time it finally fucking comes out.
I played with Jonathan a bit. I decided after Meredith's disappearance he closed their pharmacy and moved back to the UK, taking their twin daughters with him.
As he was a pharmacist, eventually he got the attention of a Brujah who wanted drugs, and was ghouled. Yeah, Jonathan had a fucking meth lab. He absolutely hated being a ghoul and as he got older and didn't age, he was forced to distance himself from his daughters and basically be a disaster father figure to protect them and also himself.
His Brujah domitor had a Lasombra enemy, who, while fucking with the Brujah, noticed that her ghoul seemed to be pretty resilient to her fuckery. Jonathan was pumped full of Brujah blood, so had a huge "FUCK YOU" streak. Lasombra got distracted trying to fuck with Jonathan and eventually tried to Embrace him.
It took her four attempts, that's how fucking stubborn and how much a fighter Jonathan was. But she managed it. Ended up being a bad idea, though: the first thing Jonathan did when he woke up from his Embrace was stake her ass and leave her out for the sun. And then go back to running his pharmacy.
Problem with this backstory is... Meredith was Embraced in 2019. With the amount of time that passed, by the time Jonathan was finally Embraced we're looking at it being after 2050 in the timeline. So I adored Jonathan and was itching to play him, but I'd never be able to in a modern game because he's too far ahead in the timeline.
But I wanted to play him in VTMNR. I wanted to play him badly. So I tweaked a few things -- he still has the wife that went missing, still has twin daughters, still trans, still Lasombra... but he was Embraced in 1994 instead. He doesn't become as bitter and hateful towards Kindred because he didn't spend thirty or so years as a ghoul, and he had his sisters show up shortly after his Embrace, so he never lost that goofy part of his personality (even if there's very few people who are aware of it).
Given their near-identical appearances, Sullivan is now Jonathan's biological uncle who went missing when Jonathan was very young, almost too young to remember him. The two of them later would meet, towards the end of the 21st century, in Seattle, and Sullivan would attempt to take Jonathan under his wing, but by then Jonathan utterly despised every Kindred he'd ever meet and barely tolerated him. While I haven't decided for certain Jonathan will probably, at some point, be destroyed at Sullivan's hands for Embracing a powerful-ass vampire hunter and siccing him on the vampire populace of Seattle. Even as a Lasombra, given that he was Embraced as a Brujah ghoul, he still has a lot of Brujah traits -- and I don't see Jonathan ever fully toeing the line as a Cainite.
Jonathan might get away alive. Ultimately, he's still got that Brujah in him, and Sullivan doesn't like to physically fight unless he really has to so has few physical skills. But if Prince Cross, his beloved sister's lover, tells him to put him down, then he intends to finish the job. They might end up chasing each other all across the US for decades, who knows... depends if I want Jonathan to live or not I guess, or if I want to keep playing with a story that's nearly a hundred years away and will probably never get to write out (how many VTM fanfics take place in the far future like that?).
UH. ANYWAY. As for Amicia' and Kara's backstories, I'm sure @nightingaletrash will add those on when she can!
