Grand Prix France entry #7
Short Dance
Lopareva/Brissaud(FRA)
Thoughts: I wasn’t a fan of the outfits but this choreography was fast paced and so fun to watch.
Carreira/Ponomarenko(USA)
Thoughts: I love what Christina did with her hair. The exit on the rotational lift could’ve gone a little smoother.
Reed/Ambrulevicius(LTU)
Thoughts: Saulius has pretty eyes. Unfortunately, they did have that fall. Hopefully they can turn things around in the free dance.
Papadakis/Cizeron(FRA)
Thoughts: I liked Gabriella’s nails. And the curve lift was pretty.
Stepanova/Bukin(RUS)
Thoughts: Alexandra looked hot during the ending pose. Ivan’s facial hair prevents me from finding him attractive.
Gilles/Poirier(CAN)
Thoughts: this is utter orange nonsense but at least the rotational lift is fun.

Kaitlin & Jean-Luc as juniors - they were SO good! this is their 2nd event together, JGP Chemnitz in Germany, when they'd been together for all of 4 months - the glide, the edges, the dance ability, the cheekiness and flair are all there, especially in the short - she was 15, he had just turned 19 a few days before - they won silver, behind Stepanova/Bukin

I know you've spoken about how interesting Scott and Tessa's charts are when you read them together and see how they balance and their strengths make sense etc. Are there any current or recent ice dance teams charts you also find interesting or really well matched?
Chock and Bates and Lolo and Nik have a lot of supportive connection and seem really good together in their charts.
interesting teams -Stepanova and Bukin have a yod together which is really similar to VM in some ways- there's that sense of him being the key to her lock, and it's a connection that's hard for them and anyone else to understand, too - only it's pretty clear in Stepbuk's composite chart why they are more like family and not romantic.
there have been a couple of teams who had charts that look like they might not last, and they did split. so when some of those same aspects show up in another team, i'm always curious if they'll last, and if they do, what factors they have that keep them together.
hard Uranus aspects in the composite to personal planets, especially Venus, can make things unstable. but it's more common to see in junior teams - teams who stay together long enough to establish themselves as seniors usually have more stability than that.
Olivia Smart and Tim Dieck have Venus square Uranus in their composite and the Sun isn't aspected, so there are some signs that this might not be a long haul connection. they do have some more positive aspects, so we'll see. i hope the best for her sake

Do you know what’s weird for me? I find that with skaters that are a couple in real life, there’s zero chemistry on the ice…. Like, to me, both C/B and FB/S are the furthest thing from sexy and hot you could find… I really don’t see it, I don’t see the passion, I don’t see anything, I can’t help it, no matter how good looking they are. I get that Tessa and Scott were a once in a lifetime team, but like, even without being together, just one look between them would make you feel like you were intruding, or that they were about to jump each other. I never found that with any other team. I agree with the anon that says that FB/S are very vanilla, that’s the best way to describe them I think Lol you can be good looking and still not be sexy and hot, and that’s them Lol
Oh, I 100% agree. Chock/Bates, Guignard/Fabbri, Sinitsina/Katsalapov, legit zero percent of sexual chemistry. Candanes have a decent amount but way less than I would want them to have. Stepanova/Bukin had chemistry and are also a team notorious for not being a couple LOL.
Tessa and Scott are a one-in-a-lifetime occurrence for me at least, they are the only team I can think of that managed to make people go "are they dating??????" after a 3-minute dance routine in three different Olympic games, three different types of music, and in completely different ages... They legit had more chemistry standing next to each other doing a stupid interview than any other team has while skating. Tessa and Scott managed to convey more emotions in a stills image than any other team during complete programs. It's truly wild and not something I expect to see again. But that alone wouldn't have been enough if they weren't as good as they actually were, they had the insane chemistry but also the receipts to back it up...
But to go back to the topic, I don't think Canadanes are vanilla, C/B, S/K, G/F are vanilla af, Weaver/Poje were vanilla af, Canadanes are better than that, just not close to where I wish they were.

Promise me this:
Stand by me forever,
Tumblr media
But if fate should step in
And force us to say goodbye,
Tumblr media
If you have children someday
And they point to our pictures,
Tumblr media
Please tell them my name,
Tell them how the crowds went wild,
Tell them how our love shined.

2022 Euros entry #32
Free dance
Guignard/Fabbri(ITA)
Thoughts: I don’t know if this counts as a crescendo ending but I think that’s my main issue with this program.
Stepanova/Bukin
Thoughts: I think this is the first outfit from Alexandra in a while that I’m just not a fan of
Sinistina/Katsalapov(RUS)
Thoughts: well done. I also love what Victoria did with her hair.
2022 Ice Lab International entry #1
Junior women short program
Nikola Fomchenkova(LAT)
Thoughts: she took a minute to get used to her music. But to be fair, this is a difficult song.

i've never watched all of P/C's programs, but i'm doing it now-- i didn't know Stepanova and Bukin won both the JGP Final and Junior Worlds in P/C's last junior season and P/C were 2nd (though at Junior Worlds, Gabi skated with an ankle injury bad enough that they had to stop in the middle of their FD). P/C were only 17/18 that year. they chose to senior up the following year and accomplished a golden slam of the 4 major senior championships but not the super slam. they moved to Montreal with Romain in their 2nd senior season
