Rise and shine! Coverage and SPF protection in one, but I mix these two together for perfect minimal coverage! Today I would dare to tag #todaysspf with @ms_hannah_e and #suncreamsundae with @glowingminimalist to share my combo for tint that allows me not to wear foundation in the last few weeks. I got shade Bronze first, and it was waaaay too dark for me, but by adding Glow, it becomes perfect. What I love about its texture it blends easily and gives a silky smooth skin feel! Large Pores, No More!

Having large pores can make our skin appear dull and uneven. It can be frustrating to have large pores that seem to grow continually. Although pores are a crucial aspect of having healthy radiant skin, there are things you can do to minimize their appearance and prevent their enlargement, and we are here to help!

What are pores?

Pores play a vital role in skin health. Pores are the opening at the top of hair follicles. They are also the passageway for the skin’s natural oil sebum to come through creating a protective barrier and nourishing the skin.

What causes large pores?

Genetics greatly affect the size of pores, determining how large our hair follicles are. Pores can enlarge over time for a variety of reasons. An overproduction of oil can increase the appearance of pores, especially when coupled with acne. Pores also get larger as we age. When we get older our collagen and elastin production decreases allowing gravity to stretch the skin, pores included. This is also true with sun damage as the sun breaks down collagen. As we try to cover the appearance of large pores with makeup and other skincare products, we are often worsening the situation by clogging our pores.

Imagine you are in a room with no windows and no doors. This room becomes muggy and hot as your body temperature permeates the air. Without Oxygen, your lungs gasp for air and the room becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. This is what happens when our skin is without needed Oxygen. Our pores open wide to promote Oxygen intake. Additionally, when our skin is occluded our pores become the perfect home for bacteria to grow. Oil, debris, and dead skin cells harbor in our pores causing inflammation and sometimes acne.

What can we do?

Keeping the skin clean is extremely important. Washing your face once or twice a day can greatly improve your skin’s health. Avoid harsh cleansers and only exfoliate 1 - 3 times a week to remove dead skin cells. In addition to cleansing the pores, protect them each day by wearing a sun protectant.

Visit a dermatologist for any extracting you may be tempted to try on your own. They have the correct tools and methods for cleaning out those unwanted blackheads. There are also laser treatments and facials available today that cause the skin to contract, lessening the appearance of pores.

Choose healthy products for your skin that are non-comedogenic and won’t clog your pores.

The Importance of SPF Makeup

Especially during the summer, we’re all used to hearing “make sure you wear sunscreen!” or “don’t forget to reapply!” But half the time we just rub it off our shoulder or pay little attention to it! But what about makeup that has SPF included in it? Does that actually get the job done when it comes to protecting our skin? Keep reading to find out!

Most sun damage comes from everyday sun exposure, not just those few days you spend at the pool. Think about the times you take your dog for a walk, go outside for a run, or even step outside to get the mail. Your skin is exposed to the sun’s rays whether you realize it or not and you need to be well prepared! You can go about this in either one of two ways. You can find a foundation with a built-in SPF that works perfectly for you! You might be thinking that it would be hard to find a product that works just as well as your regular foundation and protects your skin at the same time, but almost all of your favorite brands have products that offer the best of both worlds!

As for the other way you can go about skin protection, simply get a moisturizer that has a built-in SPF. This will both hydrate your skin and protect it when you’re in the sun. This is a good option for those of you that don’t normally wear foundation or other face makeup regularly. By doing this you’re still getting the SPF protection you need without using harmful sunscreen chemicals on your skin.
