Hiii. Spearfishing hockey person here to say that I am too tired to write, but at SOME POINT I will write a thing
Also, what are the rules of spearfishing hockey?
hiiii
no pressure! i hope you get better soon
you don't have to write anything if you don't have time/energy/ or at all if you lose interest!
hmmmm
rulesss
ruless
rules
i'm not sure?
so ima brainstorm
but these are not set in stone
anyone can send an ask with revisions or things they'd like to include
catch only what you will eat
top of hockey stick is used to spear the fish (kinda like a three prong)
you are not allowed to use the spear to harm other players, though you can still use your body like in regular hockey
takes place in a hockey rink so. yeah
there's a puck
hockey rules apply to puck and scoring
puck in goal = 1pt
OH. THE GOALIE IS THE KEEPER OF THE FISH YOU CATCH
like, there's a ice chest or something that the goalie puts your fish in
so, fish in ice chest thing = 2pt
when you catch a fish, you skate over to your goalie, hand it off, and they put it in the chest. that's when you get the fish points
but the other team can intercept the fish on your way to your goalie, but they are not allowed to re-spear it (damages the meat, and risk of injury)
if the other team takes your fish and gets it to their goalie and their goalie puts it in their chest, they get the points—no matter the fact that they did not catch it
hockey time rules apply (3x20min)
more rules to come as i think and as y'all ask

If you could combine any two sports/martial arts/physical activity things, what would they be and what would the result be?
The best answer I’ve ever gotten to this is skydiving and ping-pong
damn. now i feel like i won't live up to that
hmmmmm
ice hockey
aaaannnnnnndddddd
*thinking*
*still thinking*
*stiiiiillllllll thinking*
spearfishing
why? i have no clue
result?
um
a hockey rink filled with water
but freezing water
and maybe you have to catch the fish by spearing them with your skates or hockey stick or you turn your hockey stick into a speargun
but you have to be careful
because you still have to use the hockey stick/spear gun to maneuver the puck
and you have to be amazing at holding your breath
because we ain't pussies so no way in hell are we gonna use scuba tanks (they spook the fish anyway)
and maybe you need a certain ratio of fish to points to win
and ima hit post now before i keep on creating lore and rules for this made up sport/activity that did not exist three minutes ago

In spearfishing hockey, can the fish be used as pucks? And is it that you’re playing in, like, a freezing swimming pool, or are you playing on a thin sheet of ice you have to stab through, or are there holes in the ice at points to dive in for fish? Or something else?
hmmmm
i feel like there would be different levels of spearfishing hockey
different maps, if you will
i was initially thinking of it as a freezing swimming pool but i also like the idea of a thin sheet of ice that you stab through
the fish cannot be used as pucks, however, because you wouldn't want to damage the fish or the meat
because we don't spearfish just to kill
you're providing. you eat what you catch.
you don't catch it if you won't eat it

Wait you’re implying spearfish hockey lore. Maybe not intentionally but.
The fact that you only catch what you’ll eat implies that this started as a way of providing for yourself/your community. So maybe it started off as “hey we can glide over ice and catch fish more easily!” hundreds of years ago, and it slowly got more and more competitive through both friendly competition and genuine fighting for food to live, and it became tradition to compete for who can hit a rock into a goal while catching fish and then sharing that fish with everyone who played and they families and maybe anyone else who needs it in a massive, happy feast.
It makes it sound like spearfish hockey is so intimate even in modern day? And caring? Like you compete HARD for fish, and then you and your team cook and eat the fish you caught together. Maybe even share with the other team. There could be spearfish hockey for charity where they give the fish to people who need food!
YES
YOU GET IT
spearfishing by itself is something that is fun, but is also a way to provide for yourself and those around you
so combine it with some ice hockey
and you get a fun competition whilst still providing for your community
spearfishing is usually quite solitary
even if you have a dive buddy, they are usually watching you from above by the float to make sure you stay alive
but spearfish hockey has teams
you're providing for the community with the community
and at the end of the day
the other team are people
and they have the same morals as you (they are also playing spearfish hockey with the same intent)
so you pool your catches together
you clean the fish
and your community feasts
the excess fish you caught is cleaned and frozen for those tough times when you can't go spearfish hockey
